Libby je aplikace pro online čtení v knihovnách od společnosti OverDrive, kterou si oblíbily miliony čtenářů po celém světě.

Pomocí aplikace Libby mohou uživatelé přistupovat k elektronickým knihám, audioknihám a časopisům a k dalšímu obsahu dostupnému v knihovním systému. Nejlepší na aplikaci Libby je, že uživatelé mají přístup k obsahu zdarma - stejně jako kdyby si půjčili fyzickou knihu přímo na pobočce knihovny.

Libby je snadno použitelná a bezpečná aplikace pro knihovny, která je navržena tak, aby byla univerzální pro všechna zařízení, aby ji bylo možné používat s audiosystémy v autě, takže je uživatelsky přívětivější než její předchůdce.

Libby je vlastně evolucí aplikace OverDrive, kterou používá více než 88 000 knihoven po celém světě. Společnost OverDrive byla založena v roce 1986 a v 90. letech 20. století byla reorganizována na elektronická média. V roce 2000 byla služba OverDrive spuštěna jako služba distribuce obsahu a od té doby se rozrostla na největší katalog digitálního obsahu na světě. Do rodiny služeb OverDrive patří Kanopy, TeachingBooks, Sora a samozřejmě Libby, aplikace pro online čtení v knihovnách.

Libby je k dispozici zdarma. Spolupracuje s veřejnými knihovnami, které používají službu OverDrive. Více než 90 % veřejných knihoven v Severní Americe využívá OverDrive. Libby pak najdete celkem v 78 zemích světa. Pro přístup k dostupnému obsahu je nutné členství v knihovně, která je zapojena do tohoto systému online, a potřebujete platný čtenářský průkaz. Většina členství v knihovnách je k dispozici také bezplatně. Daný knihovní systém vybírá obsah, který je pro jeho členy dostupný.

Libby je k dispozici na jakémkoli chytrém telefonu nebo tabletu (iOS nebo Android) nebo prostřednictvím webového prohlížeče (libbyapp.com). Obsah lze také přenést do elektronické čtečky, jako je například Kindle Fire.

Začít s aplikací Libby je velmi snadné. Uživatel by se měl nejprve ujistit, že má platný čtenářský průkaz a že jeho knihovna využívá systém Libby/OverDrive. Jakmile si uživatel stáhne aplikaci do svého preferovaného zařízení, stačí, aby se řídil pokyny na obrazovce a našel svou knihovnu. Předtím, než si uživatel bude moci prohlédnout obsah, bude muset zadat číslo svého čtenářského průkazu. Lze zadat více než jeden průkaz do knihovny. Návod krok za krokem, jak začít používat Libby, najdete zde:

Po ověření členství v zúčastněné knihovně se zobrazí obsah, který je pro váš systém k dispozici. Můžete vyhledávat, filtrovat výsledky, rezervovat si titul nebo si jej vypůjčit. Jediné, co nemůžete udělat, je rezervovat si fyzickou knihu k vyzvednutí ve vaší knihovně. Každý knihovní systém si zvolí limit výpůjček a rezervací pro uživatele. Časopisy a další zdroje se však do výpůjčního limitu nezapočítávají.

Aplikace nastavena tak, aby byla univerzální pro všechna zařízení. Jednou z nejpůsobivějších věcí je, že se k aplikaci nepřipojujete pomocí přihlašovacího jména/hesla, ale pomocí vygenerovaného kódu, který aplikace poskytuje. Je to velmi bezpečné a připojení mezi zařízeními je tak velmi snadné.

Aplikace je to jednoduchá. Začínáte na stránce s vyhledáváním, najdete titul, který si chcete přečíst nebo poslechnout, a pak jej vyberete k rezervaci, půjčení nebo jej můžete označit. Můžete si tak například vytvořit seznam titulů, které si chcete v budoucnu přečíst či poslechnout.

Aplikace skvěle spolupracuje s CarPlay a měla by též spolupracovat s Android Auto. To vám umožní jednosuše připojit váš mobil či tablet k vašemu audiosystému ve vašem autě a užít si poslech kni, časopisů a článků bez nutnosti složitého připojování.
