There were 17 votes, and strangely enough a couple of the voters commented on how they liked each photo but for different reasons, which was my way of looking at both photos that led me to ask all y’all’s opinions. Anyway, there were 12 for the winner, which means that 12 votes went to it because of its abstractness, which is what I am most interested in promoting about my photography. I believe my urban geometry abstracts are unique enough to make them noticeable, and hopefully, popular. They very much represent my photographic vision, with different aspects of that type of photography finding its way into my photography in other genres.

Funny thing, though, I am still split. Like some of you pointed out, the first one has more of a visual impact. With higher contrast and a more triangular formation, it is very much intended to be an abstract, OpArt image, which attracts more attention. The second one is more a good photo of a section of the pyramid shaped building and is therefore a more serene, calmer image. The first photo is more chaotic, in-your-face, demanding to be looked at. I am going to submit the first one framed and matted to the general art action at the Crocker Museum, and I am going to submit the second one to their small art auction, but as a metal print.

September 04 2023; As I celebrate today, my 73 trip around the sun I have been reflecting on what I would like to do differently while I am on the next rotation around the sun. First off I have never seen myself as a photographer, I am a painter. (My paintings can be seen by clicking on the link at the top of this blog.) Rather I take snapshots daily to continually train my eyes and mind to recognize design elements, and in some cases humor, in everything that I encounter. I started posting on Tumblr on July 01, 2011, as a classroom exercise for my drawing, painting, and design students in the media arts program at Cypress College. I challenged them to record, using a simple camera phone, images that documented the interesting elements that comprise our day-to-day mundane reality with emphasis on design and composition using a square format.
In the summer of 2015, I retired from teaching, as a full professor, after 38 years in the classroom. I have been posting a new picture ever day since the first post in July 2011. Tumblr reports that image is the 6,559 image that I have posted to date. Not bad, considering that I have never missed a day posting a new image from day one. Nor have I ever reposted any images.
Anyway, after giving it considerable contemplation I am going to take a long vacation from posting and spend more time working on my paintings. I will be back (God willing) I just have not set a timeline to rejoin the game.
