“Crowley is still an angel deep down” “Crowley is more of an angel than any of the archangels” “Crowley was only cast out because he needed to play his part in Armageddon, he's not a real demon” “Aziraphale wants to rebuild Heaven to be more like Crowley because he’s what an angel should be” no. Stop it. This is exactly where Aziraphale went wrong.

Crowley is 100% a demon. He's not actually a bit of an angel, and he's not cosmically better than any of the other demons we see in the series. He's much less vicious than most of them, yeah, but he's also much less vicious than most of the angels, because how “nice” a celestial being is has nothing to do with which side they're technically on. Crowley's kindness comes from him doing his best to help people despite the hurt he's suffered himself, not any sort of inherent residual or earned holiness. He was cast out just like the rest of the demons, and that's an important part of his history that shouldn't be minimized, excused, or, critically, 'corrected.'

Being angelic is not a positive or negative trait in the Good Omens universe. It's a species descriptor. Saying that Crowley is still an angel deep down because he helps people is an in-character thing for Aziraphale to think, certainly--Job and the final fifteen showed that in the worst possible way--but it's not something Crowley would ever react well to, and it's the main source of conflict in the entire "appoint you to be an angel" fiasco.

We know that Aziraphale thinks Crowley's fall was an injustice, but why? Well, because Crowley is actually Good, which means his fall was a mistake, or a test, or a regrettable error in judgment, or…something. Ineffable. Etc. The point is, he’s special, much better than those other demons, and if they can fix him and make him an angel again, everything will be fine! (So once Job's trials are over, everything will be restored to him? Praise be!) Aziraphale has to believe that Crowley's better traits come from traces of the angel he used to know and not the demon he's known for 6,000 years, because that’s how he can rationalize his incorrect view of Heaven as The Source Of Truth And Light And Good with his complicated feelings about Crowley's fall.

But Crowley's fall was not an injustice because he's actually a Good Person who didn't deserve it. Crowley's fall was an injustice because the entire system of dividing people into Good (obedient) and Bad (rebellious) is bullshit. Crowley is not an unfortunate exception to God's benevolence, he is a particularly sympathetic example of God's cruelty.

And really, Crowley doesn't behave at all like an angel, especially when he's at his best. All of the things that he's done that we as the audience consider Good are things that Heaven has directly opposed. (See: saving the goats and children in defiance of God in S2E2, convincing Aziraphale to give money to Elspeth despite Heaven's views on the "virtues of poverty" in S2E3, speaking out against the flood and the crucifixion in S1E3, tempting Aziraphale to enjoy earthly pleasures because he thinks they'll make him happy, stopping Armageddon.)

Heaven as an institution has never been about helping humanity. And that's not an issue of leadership, as Aziraphale seems to think--it's by design. Aziraphale's first official act as an angel toward humanity was to literally throw them to the lions. Giving them the sword wasn't him acting like an angel, it was just him being himself. Heaven doesn't care about humans. It's not supposed to. It's supposed to win the war against Hell, with humans as chess pieces at best and collateral damage at worst.

Yes, it's easier to think that there are forces that are supposed to be fundamentally good. It's easier to think that Aziraphale is going to show those mean archangels and the Metatron what’s coming to them and reform Heaven into what it "should" be, and that God is actually super chill and watching all of this while shipping ineffable husbands and cheering for them the whole way. And of course it's easier to take Crowley, who Aziraphale (and the audience) adores, and say that he deserves to be on the Good team much more than all those angels and demons that we don’t like. But that's not how it works. People are more complicated than that, even celestial beings.

Crowley is a demon, and the tragedy of his character is not that he's secretly a good guy who is being forced to be evil; the tragedy is that he's lived his whole life stuck between two institutional forces that are both equally hostile to the love he feels for the universe and the beings in it. There are no good and bad guys. There are no "right people." Every angel, demon, and human is capable of hurting or helping others based on their choices. That is, in fact, the entire fucking point.

Me, after doing 15 minutes of excessive googling on every Batfam member's birthday only to then realize I've accidentally missed the majority of them this year, and then also finding out that people are still aggressively debating over whether Bruce's birthday is April 7 or February 19, Dick's birthday happens 3-6x throughout the year, and Stephanie might have just popped into existence for all that DC cares:

DISCLAIMER: DC is notorious for being super inconsistent with everything and I am a mere tadpole caught in the tidal wave of DC's ocean. This post will be regularly updated with edits and corrections so please do not use it as word of law, I am begging you.

Update (8/24/23): To keep things more simple and easier for everyone I am going to start categorizing the birth dates I've collected into 3 categories.

-Most popular: Self-explanatory. These are the birth dates that have been canonized and confirmed by DC and are also more wildly celebrated by the fandom. Typically, this should be the first result you see when you google the character's birthday. But not always because DC sucks ass.

-Other date(s): These are the additional birth dates I come across that have been canonized in some form with multiple sources, but are not as wildly celebrated or popularized by DC and/or the fandom. Why am I including them here? Mostly because I don't want people coming in saying I forgot a date. But also because if I have to see this mess, then y'all have too as well.

-Potential but unconfirmed date(s): This is where I will put all the other additional dates I find, but specifically those that are lacking in complete sources or seem to be highly debated and scrutinized.

It's probably just the anxiety talking, but yeah I just wanted to put that out there.

Also justice for Stephanie Brown! She deserves to have her own special day and if I have to bully DC into giving her a canon birthday, then you bet your ass I fucking will.

You brought in the smell of the forest — and a rambunctious pack of dogs — as you walked through the front door. You set down your basket of foraged goods and shook out pine needles from your hair.

“I’m back!” You announced, sounding winded both from the trek and an overall exhilaration. “Honey, do you know if….?”

You stopped in your tracks as you saw your husband had a visitor, which explained the unfamiliar car you’d seen in the driveway.

“Oh! I’m so sorry, I didn’t know we had a guest,” you said, taking off your coat. “If I’d known, I’d definitely look more presentable right now.”

Hannibal internally disagreed. He liked this wild beauty that had been thus far hidden from him, emerging from the woods like the goddess Artemis after a hunt.

He cast a glance at Will, eyebrows raised in questioning, but Will’s expression didn’t change.

“Hannibal, this is my wife,” Will said as you approached, bending down and kissing his temple. “This is Doctor Hannibal Lecter. I’ve mentioned him before.”

“Ah, the famous doctor Lecter,” you smiled, extending your hand towards him. “Pleasure to meet you.”

“The pleasure’s all mine,” Hannibal said, shaking your hand and returning the smile.

“Has he offered you anything? Some tea? Water?”

“No, actually, but I would love some tea please.”

“Coming right up.”

You gave Will a chastising look as you headed to the kitchen, taking your basket with you. Most of the dogs followed suit, always stuck like velcro at your side. Will couldn’t help but smile at this, only half aware Hannibal was observing him.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were married?” He asked, now seeing Will had a wedding band on his finger.

Will pointedly moved his hand out of view. “I guess it just never came up.”

“Until now,” Hannibal added, curious as to what had made him change his mind.

You came back into the room then, perching on one of the armrests of Will’s seat.

“Kettle’s on the stove, it’ll be a few minutes,”you said. “This feels like a momentous occasion, doctor Lecter. I’m sorry we are meeting almost on accident.”

“Please, call me Hannibal. No need for the formalities,” he assured, further taking you in. “I’m very much looking forward to getting to know you.”

Will huffed in amusement at that. “I’m sure you are.”

Lifting your shirt, what he saw, the sight in front of him, the view- it was better than anything his brain could come up with when he jerked off to you. Your boobs are covered in chocolate, dripping, you were wearing a literal chocolate bikini. That too his favorite chocolate.

Something I’ve noticed when it comes to play throughs of “My Eyes Deceive” men playing the game are a lot more likely to believe “papa”. The only girl that I’ve seen play through this immediately was going “what if I don’t want to take my pills, what if I don’t listen”, “I don’t want to take pills”. The boy players immediately took the pills without questioning a thing. Every single male gamer did this. All the male players interpreted the first dream as a sort of view of the outside, only the girl player ( Forever Nenaa) interpreted the dream as a subconscious want to escape. When “papa” said “you need to take your pills every single day” The only one who questioned “what about you papa are you not infected?” Was the female players. One of the few players who became suspicious of papa immediately was The Kubz Scouts (Jay, female player) and Forever Nenaa (the female player). The few people who chose the hallways drawings were again Kubz Scout. and Forever Nenaa. Jay has had a lot more experience with the outside worlds, he knows what type of creeps bump in the night, he has a child for Pete’s sake. Nenna is a woman she knows not to trust men and knows from first hand experience the injustice afab people face. Correct my information on Jay’s play through I haven’t watched it again from its first release but I do remember he was suspicious of “papa” just like Nenna. They both knew was “off”. If Jay played through this game back in 2015-2016 I do believe there’s was a big chance he would’ve gotten the bad ending first. Sorry for the ramble of this this game that isn’t even popular anymore. I just found it interesting.

Anakin´s story

Imagine you are a slave boy on Tatooine. You & your mother are sold to a junk trader when you were 3 years old & you live without freedom, without personhood. You & your mother together, against the world.

A Jedi Knight comes to Tatooine. The Jedi are the “Guardians of Peace and Justice” but he is not here to free slaves. There is no justice on Tatooine, but the Jedi Knight doesn’t seem to care about that.

The Jedi decides to take you away from Tatooine. Not because you are a slave boy & he recognizes that injustice, but because you are special. You are a Chosen One from some prophecy you’ve never heard of. You will become a Jedi.

You have to leave your mother, who the Jedi will not free. The one person in the world who you love, you must leave her in slavery, while you become a Jedi, a Guardian of Peace and Justice.

You are told by privileged people in robes you will not become a Jedi, you are not fit. You are a child, and you miss your mother. The Jedi tell you to fear losing her is to risk falling to the Dark Side. But what is the Light without your mother?

At the end of the story there is a party & you watch a Queen gives a Gungan a shiny ball. You are a Padawan, you will become a Jedi someday. But do the Jedi take you back to Tattoine, to rescue your mother? They do not.

There is no justice for your mother, still a slave, trapped galaxies apart from you. Years pass & the Jedi, Guardians of Peace & Justice, do not free her. You are the Chosen One, but you have no agency, no power. You are merely a tool to be used to bring balance to the Force.

The Dark Side beckons.

"Anakin and "The Son(Darkside) from the Clone Wars"

Now I personally think this wasn´t the sole reason Anakin fell to the darkside but this definitely was a strong reason for him to develop tension with the entire Jedi Order along with what happens on the Clone Wars because it´s curious how they often treat Anakin more like an unreliable resource than one of their own, they expect him to win battles for them but don´t trust him to make decisions and when he shows emotional umbalance as a result of this is tackled as if it´s only a fault of Anakin, all this background certainly explains Vaderkin´s perspective of the Jedi being evil even if he tried for many years to justify them to himself and others,in fact he had an idealized view of them and often defended them to Palpatine.

I am not saying they were indeed evil or that they were in charge of correcting every evil in the galaxy but they are responsible for the things they had the possibility to correct and didn´t just like Anakin was responsible for his own actions.

The Prequel trilogy had many interesting concepts that weren´t truly explored but it´s richness in the story of the tragedy of star wars is still out there to be explored.

Absolutely loving the discussion about marketing and what the angles/narratives at play are and what that says about what may be going on behind the scenes. Fascinating stuff.

I also had a tangential thought related to all this - I think the principal reason Charles and Max have not refollowed each other by now is that at this point it would be a HUGE media/PR moment. So rather than do so casually for no particular reason, I think they’re likely keeping it in the back pocket to be deployed at the correct moment if and when appropriate. Personally, I think the most likely scenarios for the Great Refollowing (TM) are either 1. Charles goes to RBR and they refollow each other as part of the pr push for that, or 2. After one or both of them retire in a ‘look guys! Remember this whole thing? (why yes I/we can get on trending even after retirement. My personal brand is *that* strong)

praying to every god that it’s not the retirement plan, because as much as max likes to give me a heart attack i am hoping his retirement baiting continues to be bait for another few years at least. i fear i may not survive if he retires sooner and charles doesn’t win his inevitable championship against max. f1 fates cannot allow such an injustice

standing by the claim that charles leclerc could keep max verstappen in this sport & that imo is reason enough for rbr to be after charles (or, at least, for christian to be… christian i see you). no one on that team wants max retiring any time soon. (and as good a friend as daniel or lando is, i don’t think max views either of them as nearly as much of a threat nor is as competitive with them. he’d have fun. he would not be lured into staying if he planned on retiring.)

but yeah, much as i want to see the clowns refollow each other already, you have a good point. now it’s such a Thing they’ll prob wait to make it impactful. or just never do it unless/until they are teammates because they’re still pushing the “rival” narrative. silly season needs to silly harder for my sanity!!!!

This is speculation only

Cards drawn on the 28th of February, 2024

Question: Why did King Charles allow Prince Andrew to attend the memorial service for King Constantine at Windsor Castle? What were his motivations?

Interpretation: It is a fresh new start, but not necessarily for Prince Andrew

Card One: Justice

The energy of this card is about righting an injustice. King Charles thinks something is terribly unfair, and he allowed Prince Andrew to attend the service as a way to start correcting what he 0the King) sees as an injustice.

I drew two clarifiers for this card.

Clarifier One: The King of Cups. For the first clarifier, I asked what the injustice was about, and I drew the King of Cups. This is my card for King Charles, as it represents Scorpio and King Charles is a sun sign Scorpio. The second point about this card is that it represents King Charles as a person, a brother/father/husband, and not in his role as King. So the King of Cups card tells me that King Charles as a person (not as a King) thins that something is unfair, that perceived injustice is something that affects him in his role as father/brother/husband, and he used his powers as King to let Prince Andrew attend to start righting what he sees as a personal injustice.

Clarifier Two: The Hermit. I asked if this perceived injustice was about Prince Harry, and I drew The Hermit card, which is one of the cards that represent Prince Harry, as it represents Vurgo and Prince Harry is a sun sign Virgo. So yes, this is about Prince Harry. The King sees something or somethings about the treatment of Prince Harry as an injustice to his son and to himself as a father, and he is using Prince Andrew to start to overturn that injustice.

Card Two: Strength

This is the card for Leo, the sign of royalty and the King, and also the card for England, as the Lion represents England. It is the Meghan and Harry card, as the original Rider-Waite card shows a woman (Virgo) leading the lion (Leo). Leo rules the heart, so this can indicate matters of the heart, letting your emotions override your logic. Finally, strength is the card of having internal strength.

This card is confirmation of the clarifiers on the first card. This is all about Harry and Meghan. King Charles is including Prince Andrew in things to make it easier for him to bring Harry and Meghan back into the royal fold.

Quite bluntly, this is a terrible idea. The card shows Hercules strangling the Nemean Lion. If we take the lion as representing the monarchy, then the card shows what will happen if King Charles will let the Harkles return - they will choke the life out of the monarchy and kill it.

Unfortunately, the Strength card shows how King Charles views the situation. The King thinks he is showing inner strength by trying to manipulate the public into accepting Harry and Meghan back into the royal family. He thinks he is being strong and standing up for what is right, when in fact he is simply being stubborn and putting his own desires ahead of what is needed for the monarchy to thrive.

Card Three: The Eight of Wands

The energy of this card is of PR and messages. King Charles is sending a message to his sons and to the general public by his actions. The energy is of enforcing the royal will regardless of the cost.

I feel like The King is trying to make the general public accept what he wants by force - it feels like an attitude of 'I can do what I want because I am King and you just have to shut up and accept it', but it is not that blunt or arrogant - more like he wants the public to applaud his actions in forcing his own personal desires upon them, or something like that - he wants Harry back, but he wants approval of his actions as well, or something like that.

The Eight of Wands is sometimes called the Arrows of Love card, and it is the love aspect that is coming through here - a desire for approval and sending reassurance to Harry somehow? The energy is like King Charles is saying to the general public "I am going to bring my son back and it is the right thing to do so you have to approve of my actions regardless of what you really think" and at the same time he is saying to Harry "Don't worry darling boy, we will have you home and safe by Christmas". Those are only approximations of what I can feel from the cards - it is a hard energy for me to put into words.

Underlying Energy: The Fool

One of the meanings of the Fool is a fresh start, and that is the energy that is coming off this card. The King wants a very public new start/fresh start for Harry, and he is suing Prince Andrew to achieve this. I say Prince Harry because I asked the question "Is the fresh start for Harry?" and I drew two cards, the Page of Pentacles which is the earth sign child, and Harry is the earth sign son of King Charles, and the Wheel of Fortune, which tells me that King Charles is trying to turn Harry's fortunes/reputation around. The Page of Pentacles is also my card for the UK, so all this is to happen in the UK, and not another country.

Conclusion

The King is using Prince Andrew and his appearance at the memorial service to right what he (the King) sees as a personal injustice, namely the attitude of the people of the UK to Harry returning to the royal family. The King wants to bring Harry and most likely Meghan back into the royal family, no matter how disastrous this would be for the monarchy. He thinks he is being strong and standing up for what is right, but in fact he is merely pursuing his own desires at the expense of his country and the institution of the monarchy.

The King will use the presence of Prince Andrew at public events to try and turn public opinion in Harry's favour, so his son can return to the UK and have a fresh start, and he (the King) can have public approval for his actions. This is all about Harry and his return to the UK with his wife. Prince Andrew is a useful idiot to the King, nothing more. He is not doing this out of fondness for Prince Andrew in any way - this reading was all about Harry. He is the focus of the King's concern.

Aziraphale, Crowley, The Cold War and Other Possible Lenses

First, I just want to say that there Is NO Wrong way to interpret literature and this post is not meant to invalidate anyone's interpretations. But I want to talk about the final 15 from a different perspective. Again, not saying other interpretations aren't there or valid or baked into the show, just that I want to see what we discover when we look through another lens. And the lens I wanna look through is what I personally think is the lens the Book was actually written through. Now, I know there are a lot of differences from book to tv (for example, how much Crowley is invested in duck health)

But in the book,it's relatively clear that one major interpretation is that it's an Allegory for The Cold War (Two sides that go to war and don't care about the casualties of who gets caught in the middle,as long as their side wins) The First thing when Armageddon goes down that both Azi and Crowley try to get out of trouble is they Both ask each other if they can defect to their side. It is important to note this is Not in the TV show, but I do believe (correct me if I'm wrong) it's in the script book. (The scene in the book takes place in The Bentley I believe)

This is important for Azi's ask at the end of S2. We Know that whatever the convo with Metatron was, Azi could tell Something was up. He doesn't know it's specifically the second coming, but he knows it's Something. Remember, at the end of S1, Crowley says they bought themselves breathing room for "the big one". And Azi is probably pretty sure that this project Metatron is talking about is exactly that. Keeping in mind the first move both Book Azi and Crowley make in the ApocaNot is to try and defect, it makes sense, from that lens, that Azi would Jump at the chance to offer Crowley the safety of defection. Keep in mind, In -The S1 scene at the Globe -The WWII magic show scene And -The Victorian Body snatcher scene Azi isn't worried for what Heaven will do to Crowley, but what Hell will. Afterall, it's Hell that collects or threatens to collect Crowley in the flashbacks, and it's Hell Azi is concerned will destroy Crowley "If hell finds out, they won't just be angry, they'll destroy you", Aziraphale says. He's worried about what Hell will do to Crowley, not Heaven. (well that and holy water)

So, given that background, it stands to reason that Azi feels he and Crowley are Safer with Heaven than Hell. Yes, Heaven tried to kill Azi, but that was once. Afterall, Hell doesn't write "rude notes".

And look, we don't know what exactly Azi goes through with Heaven,but a lot of Heaven's ab*se seems to happen from Azi's superiors, but if he's Surpreme Archangel, Azi will be the superior and in a high enough position to Protect Crowley, or at least I imagine that's Azi's rationale. So, again, it stands to reason that 1) Azi would assume they'd both be physically safer in Heaven and 2) That Crowley wouldn't take it personally,as, per the book, they've Asked to defect to Heaven before. Now, to be fair, this is Book Canon, not TV Show canon. So, let's discuss (briefly, because this could be another post) Aziraphale and Crowley's view of Angel/Demon as identity, or at least what AZI would know of it. Azi doesn't hear Crowley discuss being a demon very often other than to

1) tell Azi that they didn't mean to fall or some variation

2) Tell Azi that they're a demon, and, thus, they're not nice (an assertation that is usually, immediately, proven Wrong, ala the Job episode, but we see it elsewhere as well)

And, based on that, I also think another lens we can look at Azi's offer is one of a Restoration, The Righting of an Injustice. Hell and being a demon is an allegory for a kind of criminal punishment. Crowley was kicked out because he was "bad", this was unfair, and now, the error or the judgement is being recognized and fixed. This is obviously a VERY LOADED concept, but it is very possible Aziraphale views this offer as Righting a Wrong, Correcting an Injustice that was Done TO Crowley. I'm not saying these are definitive lenses to look through, just alternate ones that can help us understand what Azi is thinking when he offers Crowley to be an Angel.

“The battle’s not done.” You say through gritted teeth. You don’t want to look at him.

“My Jewel-”

“Go.” You say, coughing. He thinks he can see some spittle of blood shot from beyond your lips. You merely roll over to block his view from the worst of it. “You’re needed.”

“You need me.”

“Go.”

The Fierce Deity growls. He won’t leave you. Not like this. He must atone. He must make up for his sins in blood. But his and his alone.

Unless this was a punishment from the heavens and you were to pay with your one blood.

The thought enrages him and he finds himself reaching for his sword once more. He’s blinded by the injustice. He sees only red.

But he can’t allow you to see it. This wasn’t a side to him that he wanted you to be privy to. Grabbing the hilt of the sword, he charges toward the main hoard that continues to make itself a threat to your wellbeing. He needs to make space. He needs to get away from you unless he wishes to commit a higher ransom than the blood already spilt.

The battle sounds continue and you know that they won’t last long, not if he was reason to be wrathful. You groan and grunt, pushing yourself up to the best of your ability. The blood has already begun to stain your outer layers. You can feel it slowly trail down your throat now that you’ve righted yourself.

You feel ill and sickly already. You feel both warm and chilled to the bone. You have to fend for yourself now that the Fierce Deity has left you to deal with eradicating the threat in its entirety.

You gulp- not surprised at the iron taste in your mouth.

It’s a bitter taste.

You hadn’t wished to show him the plight you’ve found yourself in. Only marginally aware of the cause of the injury, you had only come to think that he was right in the end.

He was much stronger, bigger, tougher, virtually indestructible. While here you are, only a step into the battle and taken down for the count.

Your shoulders work to maneuver through your side bag. You can’t reach for a spare weapon nor would it do you any good. Your hope for a steady and quick recovery is either a fairy or a health potion. You tried to make it a habit to carry either for the rare occurrence of your injury. You had always assumed you had to Fierce Deity to protect you.

And the one time to step away from his protection, you find your blood on the outside rather than where it belongs.

Your fingertips glaze over a bottle and you can feel your body sag with relief. You doubt it would be enough to heal you completely, but you’re going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

You pull the bottle out of your pouch and prepare to pop the cork off- only to find it empty.

Dread sinks into your stomach like a lead weight.

“My Jewel…” The Fierce Deity appears beside you once more without revealing his presence. “Your injury.”

You gasp, jumping and ducking to cover the severity of it.

You miss the way his face twists into hurt. He hadn’t meant to frighten you…ever. Would you allow him to tend to you? To mend what he has broken? Would you now forever only see him as a monster? A killer? Designed only to destroy?

When you had first met, you had tried to break that impression of the people around you- but here, in this moment, he had only proven the naysayers correct.

The Fierce Deity gulps in a rare show of trepidation as the nerves run wild under his skin. “I have a fairy.”

You flinch.

He takes a breath and lets the fairy out of her trap. She flies and happily focuses on your injury. On instinct you uncoil and allow the magic to do its work to your body. The Fierce Deity has yet to relax even as you begin to heal.

You turn back to him with a bite to your lip and nervously likewise energy. You can’t hold eye contact and instead find yourself looking away before the fairy is even done attending to you.

Something within the Fierce Deity is telling him to fix it. To say something. Do something. But for the first time in the eons of his life, he can say that he hesitates.

“I’m ok.” You say at last, spitting out the remnants of blood from your mouth. You turn to him, finally, and open your arms for him.

His heart stills, not sure what would be the correct choice of action. But you whine and instinct and desire overcome what he would consider a more rational part of his brain. He scoops you up, trying to be mindful of the injury and holds you dearly.

“My Jewel…” The words get stuck in his throat.

“You were right.” You say with resignation. “I’m nothing compared to you.”

He shakes his head. “You are my everything.” His grip tightens by a fraction. “How is it that I can hope to compare to you?... It would have been my fault if I lost you.”

“You got rid of the monsters-”

“And yet it was my blade that dared to strike you in the first place.” He admits.

You completely still and instead shift your eyes to look into his face. The Fierce Deity isn’t known to openly show his emotions often- if ever. Which makes the tears crawling down his face all the more gut wrenching.

“H-hey…” You reach up to cup his face. “I’m still here.”

“And if you weren’t?” He whispers. “I was meant to protect you.”

“And you brought the fairy.” You put on a brave smile. ”It’ll be alright, you’ll see. I should have just let you deal with the threat.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I know.”

Kaname: ... I feel the same as Sazanami. If the fame and shine doesn't belong to my own name, then there's no point to it.

But... Still, it seems as if "Tatsumi Kazehaya" is doing well for itself.

Maybe I should learn from it. Throw away this pride of mine and ensure success through that.

All so I can become the sparkling idol I've always dreamed of being.

Tatsumi: Haha. If you so wish, then we are able to help you in a number of ways. We offer idol practices, studies, and can even help you find work — all free of charge.

In fact, I pay everyone who comes to one of my gatherings an equal part of my own wages.

Kaname: What do you mean...?

Tatsumi: You see, I have no interest in money. All of the money that "Tatsumi Kazehaya" accumulates is thus given out in equal shares to those gathered here.

No matter how much you've done, or what you've helped with, you're given the same amount of pay as the person next to you.

Hence, I've asked them to help me with the work I've received as much as possible.

Kaname: Are you for real? You're the one paying them?

It isn't the other way around? They're only managing to catch rays of the limelight because of you, aren't they? And yet... you're paying them?

Tatsumi: That's right. I likened it to a company, didn't I? Anyone who becomes a part of "Tatsumi Kazehaya" is offered the same regular pay as everyone else within it.

It's only natural to reward those who work a reasonable sum, isn't it? I would never ask someone to do my work for free.

Such a thing would be against our doctrine— nay, against human decency itself.

Jun: Ohhh, I get it now... I see just why these guys don't care for working on their own and are perfectly content just being "Tatsumi Kazehaya's assistants.”

They can just kick back and let their earnings pour in that way. Why wouldn't they? The cash they earn through this kinda fixed income is definitely gonna be way more than whatever an idol with no accomplishments could get through independent work.

And on top of that, Kazehaya-senpai's so brilliant at what he does that his work's a huge success every single time. Thanks to that, these guys get the chance to shine while avoiding any risk of failure or injury, or of being thought of as useless.

Sure is a dream job — one fit for morons.

Kaname: And on top of that, if I'm understanding correctly, you pay those a fair wage even if they haven't worked at all?

Tatsumi: I do. We don't discriminate here, you see. All are equal.

Jun: Mmm, well, I’m not that educated so I might be wrong, but this whole arrangement'spretty much that thing, isn't it? Starts with a c and ends with ism....

Our country's a capitalist nation, so y'know, the opposite of that —

Tatsumi: There's truly no need to go that far. I only wish to treat everyone as equally and fairly as possible.

Such a world would be ideal, wouldn't you agree? I want to make it a reality.

Tatsumi: Everyone is treated equally, given the same opportunities, and is paid fairly for their work. That way, everyone is able to live a happy, fulfilling life.

The root of all misfortune lies in inequality and injustice. They are the root of all unhappiness.

That is why they must be corrected.

There is a distinct disparity between the Special and Non-Special Students here at Reimei Academy. I'm doing what I can to close it.

It doesn't matter who you are, what you are, or even where you came from: you will be treated equally. Everyone will carry the same weight, walk the same amount of steps, and reach the same destination.

Everyone finishes at the same time. Everyone will be granted the same first place result, fairly and ideally.

And that is how we'll stop needless fighting over who's won and lost, we'll cease begrudging others for what they have, and we'll share the same happiness with one another.

That is the ideal world I dream of.

To bring it even slightly closer to reality, I'm doing what I can— though at the moment, this small sphere is all I'm able to influence in such a way.

Tatsumi: One day, I will take all those who inhabit Reimei Academy, the teachers and Special Students alike, as well as those in the idol industry, in this country, in this world...

And change their ways so we may live in such an Eden.

No, it's more than that. That is my mission in life as the Voice of God, as someone born within a family who teaches His words.

I truly believe that, and so I will live by that faith.

Tatsumi: May all of God's creations be blessed. Amen.

What a year, huh? We all know I have to be emotional on tumblr.com whenever the opportunity arises because that's one way I allow myself to have an emotional catharsis (for legal reasons this a joke)

In all seriousness though, this year has been a lot for me. Both in a good and bad sense, but Käärijä and Joker Out improved it significantly. And more importantly, their fandoms. (More inder the cut bc this is long af)

I have never really been someone who knows anything about the artists' whose music I listened to. Before this, I don't think I ever listened to a full album of someone, just random songs that I liked. Finding stuff from personal life of bands/musicians I liked usually made me depressed so I didn't bother.

Then, ESC 2023. happened. I frankly have no idea what flipped the switch in my head. Bojere interactions? The way people on tumblr were so welcoming even back when I was mostly posting about Let 3 and Käärijä only? I don't know, I only know that we are here now, regardless.

Another thing about me is that I used to be very pessimistic person. Likez genuinely. I have been "unofficially"(long story) diagnosed with depression and anxiety since I was 11, which is over a decade now. I always had a lot of bad experiences with people and really awful trust issues. I have been doing better for some time now, but it is very hard to let go of the feeling of pessimism and helplessness. In a world where awful things happen every second, what can I possibly do that would change anything?

Then ESC happened. Käärijä lost and I thought "another injustice that will never be corrected". Except, instead of feeling defeated, everyone just loved him more. In those weeks after and later on months, all I have seen had been unrelenting love and acceptance of Jere. Reminding him that despite not winning Eurovision, he is our winner and we'll forever think of him as such. Jere who has a wonderfully belly and strong thighs and is short and by no means is he conventional in any sense. And people loved him not despite all that but because all that. Because we all found ways to relate to him, or to what he went through.

His story of almost dying and still getting where he did only served to highlight that more. Because of he did it, why can't we get to what we want? Why can't I? It shifted my whole perspective.

Then, Joker Out. It is so, so funny to me how I barely paid any attention to them during ESC, except for bojere interactions and was dragged in it by the shared fandom, when now I post most about them.

But yes, JO. A band from Slovenia that while tehnically isn't Balkan, felt so close to me. Like they could understand all the things I kept to myself because of where I was. And then they showed me there is still hope.

I have never seen a band from around here take a pride flag on the stage. Never. I know it's a thing, especially abroad, but God I have never seen that happen here. And with how much love they always took it! That's...wow. It gave me hope that not only is it possible for injustices to be corrected, but that ot's possible to do it even in the environment I'm in.

And then...the Virtual Letters Project happened. Or well positive confessions that @spockowhales turned into Virtual Letters Project.

That's when I knew it's truly possible. I have seen tumblr posts, yes. But getting stuff so directly addressed about or to JO made me realize how much of a "wave" they all created. So many people said they helped them with their depression, with viewing their world differentky with meeting new peoplez with daring to do something new.

I have no words to describe how much that meant to me and I really hope that when they read those letters, they understood the impact they had.

But even that aside, I want to thank everyone in this fandom. People I have talked to, people I have interacted with it any way, through replies, reblogs, likes, anon asks. I appreciate every single one of you for helping create such a wonderful space. We had our ups and downs in the fandom, but we are all here because we love these fandoms, these people so much to keep talking about it even months after.

Not just a Star Wars issue?

In 2020, a vibrant, colorful video essay appeared on YouTube, titled, “The Lion King Explained: Let the Darkness In.” To summarize its main conclusions: Mufasa was fundamentally flawed and his flaws resulted in his death and the fall of his kingdom. He refused to see and confront evil, ill intentions and darkness. He gave no means to Simba to deal with his severe trauma, or to address the unpleasant, apart from pushing it away. This resulted in Simba repressing his emotions and running away. His naive refusal to confront ugly truths left his kingdom weak and untested. What's more, he is an absolute and even god-like monarch, thus Scar's anger over not being king echoes valid critiques of his society’s injustice and inequality. However, his only solution is hate, anger and destruction. Only Simba, the young, conflicted, new king is able to confront the darkness that his father explicitly refused and denied to do so, becoming a better, stronger king, addressing the injustice and inequality in Mufasa's kingdom.

And what is one of the most popularized reading of Star Wars today? The Jedi lost their way, they turned a blind eye to the fact that the Republic is ruled by an oppressive elite, they gave no means to Anakin to deal with his severe trauma, they taught him to repress his emotions, they feared and ignored the dark side of the Force. Anakin turned to the dark side due to the Jedi neglecting and mistreating his traumas and teaching him to push away his emotions. He actually had a point, so does the Sith, but they offered only hatred, anger and destruction as an answer. Thus, the Jedi contributed to their own demise, which was sad and largely undeserved, but necessary. Luke, after proving the old Jedi Masters wrong in their black-and-white morality and thinking, by embracing his emotions, confronting the dark side, reforms the Jedi Order, which is stronger, better, more equal and healthy than the old one.

Can we point out a pattern here?

The old and their old ways created problems like inequality and injustice due to their black-and-white morality and thinking inherent to them, and now they're unable and unwilling to address and solve them, which ultimately causes their demise. Then, a young hero arrives: the old are trying to get him to suppress his emotions and continue their old, flawed ways. This young hero is traumatized or otherwise struggling with their mental health, that the old are systematically neglecting or even contributing to it and leading to severe consequences. Meet our villain: they actually have a point, however, the hero shouldn't follow their footsteps, because all they offer is rage, destruction, hate and so on. It's only the young one, who can surpass both emotional repression and anger, hate and destruction, who corrects and educates the system, the old ways and the old ones.

I start to think that what we witness is a "Gen Z narrative" starting to invade fandoms, drowning out all the original messages and lessons of these stories, replacing it with "Old = fanatic, bigoted, dogmatic, black-and-white and myopic, and Young = progressive, tolerant, spectrum-thinker, rationalist, updated" - people almost compulsively trying to locate this new trope in the movies and books they love, because they need this view validated, they need their ego boosted, even if this means ignoring the actual stories they allegedly "fans" of.

This narrative is often tangled with Western-centrism: what was unknown to the West, was unknown to the world as a whole, thus, the Gen Z Hero, equipped with Western psychology, philosophy, values and cultural and social costumes, is inherently superior, communicates new, never seen before, life-changing revelations to the previous generations, wherever they go. And this seem to attract certain millennials as well.

It started somewhere around the mid-2010s and now it peaks.

Where will this lead us?

I'm making a new post for this because I'm too anxious to add onto someone else's post, especially if I'm disagreeing with them-

(Also I'm mostly writing this because I wanted to make sense of my own thoughts, I'm not really in the mood to argue.)

But I saw someone say Zuko's ending as Fire Lord was confusing because he got what he wanted from the beginning, as in, he always wanted to become Fire Lord and then that is exactly what he became.

Sorry for stepping in like this, but-

Zuko didn't get what he wanted from the beginning.

At the start, "wanting his throne" was just a part of what he truly really wanted: the approval of Ozai, his love, to carry on the legacy of Ozai and Azulon and Sozin, to become better than Azula, to do and be what he was expected to.

He doesn't get any of that, at all.

He becomes Fire Lord but before that he has to let go of his desperate desire "to be great" (in the Fire Nation standard) and become a complete, irredeemable, utter failure in the eyes of the people he wanted to impress: he lets go of Ozai's approval, he understands Ozai will never love him, he renounces the legacy of the war, and he solidifies his position as Azula's inferior (in the eyes of the fire nation ideals ofc). He also upturns his old concept of what he was expected to be: an obedient prince following the status quo, carrying on the will of his rulers and ancestors VS a prince who loves his nation so much he decides to formally betray it.

He is shaken, at the end, when he is told by Iroh he will get the throne because it doesn't fit with his worldview anymore, and because he is ashamed. He becomes the Fire Lord but there is a complete resignification of what that entails and why that is important. Right now being the Fire Lord is not the natural progression of being Ozai's son, now he is signing up to shoulder the responsibility of changing the world.

His journey also shows us that he was right: the correct thing to do is speak out against injustice and cruelty. He was punished for it, they tried to suppress his drive to do better by his people, and he has to go a long way until he can shake off the severe attempt to make him shut up and conform. In his journey he also learns he can't do right by his people while still allowing them to oppress others, that he can't dehumanize anyone not just his fellow people.

...so yeah. I really don't think he got what he wanted in the end. If he had, he would have been shrouded in the glory of destroying the fire nation's enemies, he would have been a worthy son of his forefathers' cruelty-...and he did get that for a while, didn't he? And didn't he get the whole "be careful what you wish for" experience? If his arc had ended there and he hadn't gone away to train Aang, then we could say he was handed exactly what he always wanted to have and that there was no change.

But no. His father hates him. He let go of a 100 year old legacy. He disrupted the "glorious" expansion of a "glorious" nation. To many, he is a disappointment and embarrassment because he did the unthinkable: he retreated, he sent the armies home.

He surrendered against all Fire Nation beliefs of honor because he finally understood he can't gain honor by hurting others.

He let go of the definition of honor that was corrupting him.

That is change.

There is nothing wrong, anyway, in a character getting exactly what they wanted if along the way the motivations and significance of the goal change.

(Being truly honorable can be super humiliating tbh

I'm Latin American born and raised, I have experience with this one- and it still has me on a chokehold. He is a fictional character and yet I look at him and I'm like wow that thing right there? Takes balls. I still can't let go of the expectations that are suffocating me even though I know they hurt me more than help me.)
