HI it's that time again end of the month it's warming up it's almost summer how did your may reading go, what's on your list for the summer?
the thread vaguely weaving together may's reads: sex, anger, and neocolonialism
Tumblr media
YES the rumors are true YES I slashed my standard (as of the last couple years) reading goal from 50 books to a humble 36 SIGH I have two wolves inside me telling me 1. to commit fully to the bit and 2. to trust my gut/instincts — with enough willpower I could force myself to hunker down and become a lean mean reading machine just to barely scrape by with an even 50 by the end of december for some imaginary accolade/clout/tradition on Amazon-Owned Goodreads Dot Com, or I could #BeReal with myself and accept my reading habits of the past few months as a litmus test of how things have been going + so shall continue to be. I'd rather not turn my goal (and thus reading as a whole) into this looming monster that taunts me ykwim especially when the point is enjoyment so TLDR . we're being Real and Intentional and Downsizing <3 ONTO MAY'S READS, FULL OF HITS BABY!
Bad Behavior by Mary Gaitskill
I was reading this around the time I watched this vintage gay erotica Equation to an Unknown (1980) where one of the reviews succinctly says it's "Erotic ennui" — this kinda perfectly sums up the vibe of this short story collection. sex-tinged dramas, though not melodramatic, not edge-of-your-seat high stakes, but just enough entangled emotional transactions to feel as if you're on the precipice of something only to be left in the cold. I'd been meaning to read Secretary for a while now and somehow didn't connect that this was the short story collection it came from?? kismet! I have a friend who doesn't like watching black-and-white movies or pretty much anything pre-80s because they "look so old" (bless her heart) — often (moreso lately) I feel the inverse of that with movies post 2000s where sometimes everything looks/feels too new and sleek and sometimes the mere sight of a cell phone is enough to turn me off. all this to say, I did try watching Secretary but turned it off after 15 minutes bc it didn't feel right at the moment and I wanted to sit with the tepid yet strangely alluring bubble of the original story a little longer. the last story was my favorite and made me cry lolol
The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For by Alison Bechdel
there's nothing I could say that would do this justice GOD I'm obsessed with this! somehow I've read every Bechdel work Except any of dtwof, but I'm glad I waited to read it in this collective form rather than in bits + pieces. I love all the details and references Bechdel puts into every panel — I swear I must've added like 20 books to my TBR list while reading Fun Home — and how effortlessly the state of US politics gets weaved into the background of their lives in a way that really puts you in that time and place. there's clearly so much love and humor and dedication she has for her community, but I love how she doesn't shy away from community in-fighting and hypocrisies — the desire to live a happy and fulfilled life without being a liberal "sellout" queer, and what that even means depending on who you are etc etc. it's also strangely assuring to read these arguments and discussions amongst the friends and how relevant and fresh it all still feels? like we're still having the same arguments and worrying about the same things decades later and it sucks but there's also this string of consistent humanity threading it together idk we're never alone in our experiences n time is a circle n all that jazz. loved that no character felt wasted or sidelined for the sake of a "greater" plot, loved how even the children and men had their own motives/personalities, SIMPLY LOVED IT ALL + I'M HEARTBROKEN IT'S OVER! </3 (though I read they're doing an audible version soon with a buncha celebs so I'm Intrigued by that)
Dogeaters by Jessica Hagedorn
Magnolia (1999) but for Filipinos!! thrumming with chaos and desperation and anger. Similar to Bad Behavior with its lack of loose ends being tied up nicely at the end. I fear I'm too cynical nowadays to put much weight in "representation" and the corporate intentions that back it, hallmark movie endings with a very glossed-over + white-approved "see? we're just like you!" message. that sentiment is not present here whatsoever, and I adore Jessica Hagedorn for that. unhealthy family dynamics and power structures and the curse that is American colonialism thrusting itself into your very concept of what you want in life. obviously (and unfortunately) Many can connect to that, but this book is so distinctly FIlipino, so specific and dedicated to a Filipino experience, that I can only laugh at negative reviews from (white) people complaining about what an incomprehensible mess it is or how there should've been a glossary to explain certain terms and aspects of Filipino culture, etc etc. I'd like to think it was intentional of Hagedorn to omit a glossary or footnotes or much explanation at all — a big FUCK YOU / THIS ISN'T FOR YOU and I love it. could even argue that that was one of the messages at the core of each of these intertwining stories. I read The Gangster of Love and watched the play in college and was equally floored with its anger at the world, how it kinda spits in your face when you're waiting for conventions or comfort. love love loved this so much, I do not mean it lightly when I say Miss Hagedorn is my hero

The Bedroom of Things by Caitlin Blanchfield and Farzin Lotfi-Jam — bedroom as theater + the performance of our living spaces as we portray them in images for the spectatorship of others; connecting our interior lives to physical things/commodities as manifestations of the self
The Transnational Ga(y)ze: Constructing the East European Object of Desire in Gay Film and Pornography after the Fall of the Wall by Nicholas F. Radel — pretty much exactly as the title suggests, the effect the fall of the wall/shift away from communism had in gay porn and general (gay) media depictions of East European men. desire constructed through a nationalistic standpoint, the hierarchies of power at play. I watched a few documentaries this month that would pair nicely for a little lecture on sex work + communism in East Europe: The Fall of Communism as Seen in Gay Pornography (1998) dir. Currently reading Pornotopia by Paul B. Preciado and I'm about to take a trip which will mark my first time traveling with my kindle so I'm excited for that hehe I have a buncha books downloaded but my priority is getting into Dennis Cooper bc I've been meaning to for so long and I feel like several movies I watched this month had been likened to Dennis Cooper vibes in the reviews + I even saw someone on insta reading The Sluts so if that's not all a sign to finally get with it, then IDK what is!

ok now that i for real know what my writing commitments are going to be for the next, like, year, at least the majority of them, here is the actual for real i s2g hold me to this writing schedule
Fic in a Box - due 10/15
1 assignment of 2k words remains, write it this saturday
Five Figure Fanworks Exchange - check in 11/11, due 1/20
i expect this will take about a week to finish, and ideally i'll have it done prior to check-in.
Yuletide - works due 12/18
UNLESS i get an assignment that i want to go hogwild on, which i should be prevented from doing, i should be able to finish this the week of 11/26 and not work on it outside of that.
galactic santas - est. due 12/25
my fave event of the year lol, the logh secret santa exchange. uh anyway this one is usually due around christmas and also is the easiest thing on this list by a mile and a half. i'm 0% worried about this one.
tomorrow ye will get your pay - aka the whale novel. - first draft due 3/1, physical product due for display 4/1
this is an extremely short timeline, and while it's not "drop everything else" level short, it is going to have to be my #1 writing priority for a long time.
my plan is as follows
spend the remainder of october getting situated w/ the research i'm going to have to do, figuring out who i need to talk to, etc. as well as put together a detailed chapter-by-chapter outline
nov/dec i'm assuming will be eaten by SMST and other commitments, but get research done and essentially braindump into document
jan/feb, just write as much as possible, take time off of work/quit job if i need to
if possible confine edits to the first 2 weeks of march, get books printed; deliver final product by last week of march.
god this schedule is miserable. well i signed up for it! i did this entirely to myself! lmfao.
anyway i'm going to bracket in that it's a 20 chapter novel, which seems like a reasonable number of chapters. i essentially have ~10 weeks to write this book. this is totally normal and fine, i have written longer books with less of a solid outline in shorter amounts of time. if i can just sit my ass in a chair and hammer out 2.5k words/day i will EASILY make this deadline and have time for editing. the issue will be making myself do that. but having a deadline and like professional accountability should majorly help. esp if i quit my stupid fucking job lol
serpent's mouth, serpent's teeth - due 12/31
i have four chapters left on SMST. i do not think they will be EASY to write but I do think that I'm CAPABLE of getting them done before the end of the year. at the very least i've sworn until i was blue in the face that i would finish this book by the end of the year. i need this book to stop haunting my waking nightmares lmfao. i estimate ~50-60k words remain, but we'll see what it actually ends up shaking out as. hopefully it's not more than that.
anyway this is another just "ass in chair" moment. though if i could have made myself do that months ago, this book would have been finished sometime this summer lol
every link was freedom's name - aka the fucking. arle heinessen play. no due date.
this is my yay you finished all the obligations you had now you get to do something deeply deeply stupid and entertaining only to a tiny number of people project. lyric play about arle heinessen. book of exodus pastiche. probably not that long. estimate it'll take me as long as POD did, so a month and a half? but i won't stress it. aim to finish it mid may?
new constellations - aka the logh rarepairs exchange i run
I'm planning to run signups in late march, with works due mid may. this is slightly earlier than last year but due to my own personal schedule i don't want it to overlap with...
heart attack exchange - works due 6/2
yeah you literally only get 2 weeks to work on this one so it kinda is what it is lol.
life out of balance rewrite. no particular due date.
i expect this will take me 3-4 months to complete. finish by september?
lighting out for the territories augmentation. no particular due date.
i'd like to think that i can get this done in 2 months but i don't actually have a plan for what i need to do to it. so who tf knows lol. assume it'll take me the rest of the year.
every hateful instrument - no firm date
this will likely take between 6-8 months to finish, but it's another thing that i really want to stop having hanging over me. i'll either work on it before the LOFTT stuff or after
WIAW phezzan novella - ultimate TBD
to be completed immediately before starting LL/SS, probably
other misc nonsense
there are other small exchanges that i like to do (space swap, unsent letters, we die like fen) so as those pop up i probably will sign up for them. i'm not going to look up/prognosticate when they will happen at this moment in time
god i owe so many people gifts for birthdays and holidays and stuff >.> you may or may not get them. lean towards may not b/c what the fuck is this writing schedule. i'm so sorry lmao
i've now gotten back around to "oh this goes up to the end of the year again, so the end of the year exchanges (yuletide, fffx, fiab, galactic santas) should be on this schedule" but down that road lies only pain and horror lol
this list has gotten incredibly vague as things have gone on. the last part of this year and the first part of next year are pretty set in stone though, and i just need to like, get myself to the starting block and then start running
literally so funny that i was like "i should relax and take a break from writing before starting LL/SS" lmfao. lmfao.
obviously some of these things could be deleted from the schedule. i don't have to do a bunch of exchanges (but i liiiiiike them) and i don't have to write a stupid play (but i wannnnnnt to), and i don't have to do any rewrites to the early parts of WIAW (but they're a mess). so it's like. idk. maybe none of this is real and i'm just making lists b/c i like making lists lol

the aforepromised AOT analysis taken from my too-long tags:
There are certain characters who - had they been introduced as protagonists rather than villains - would have been beloved by their strongest haters. not because those haters would’ve excused their actions, but because their victimhood would’ve been the first thought, and not the afterthought. i am speaking of the Warriors once again. i feel it is important to note that, while Reiner may have had the mental breakdown, they were all raised under dysfunctional - perhaps traumatic - circumstances before they ever joined the Warrior program. especially Annie. holy crap let’s look at Annie for a second.
> born outside the internment zone. > discovered to be half-Eldian. promptly abandoned to the internment zone. > found by a bitter opportunist who abuses her from infancy into becoming the perfect human weapon. > one day, she cracks and beats him so badly she permanently cripples him. this makes him HAPPY because it means he’d succeeded. super normal response. > she is enlisted into the child soldiers program where the brainwashing gets cranked up x3000. she makes no friends and kills critters for...leisure? existential dread? > is forced to EAT A PERSON at 11 years old. at which point she knows she will die in 13 years. > is sent on a deadly mission at 11 YEARS OLD to eat MORE PEOPLE. as she’s leaving, her ‘father’ repents and begs her to come back. crying, she instantly forgives him, because obviously she is a child and this is the only parent she has ever known or wanted. but now she HAS to complete the mission because if she FAILS, she gets EATEN and her father gets KILLED. > on the mission, Annie watches as their leader (also a child) gets EATEN. she lashes out against Reiner in exactly the same brutal way she did her father. > when she tries to quit the operation, Reiner strangles her into submission. > Improvising without Marcel, Annie then transports Reiner and Bertholdt all the way to the Wall, at which point, she passes out from sheer exhaustion, and entirely misses Reiner and Bertholdt committing what is essentially a terrorist attack the likes of which we have never seen. an act of war and a mass slaughter.
> then, Annie assimilates into this society of monstrous devils who, to her horror, turn out to be merely frightened people. (this is the first place she makes a friend in her entire short life.) > Annie proceeds to complete ALL the mission reconnaissance herself, until she accidentally reveals her face to Kenny Ackerman. she tries to persuade Reiner to take the intel she’s acquired back to Marley, but he insists they must complete the mission if they want to live. > so, at age 15, Reiner & Bertholdt REPEAT the initial slaughter. > after Annie rescues Connie from a titan, Reiner essentially threatens to accuse her father of being a Paradis sympathizer unless she takes Marco’s 3DMG off him. > Marco begs her for mercy the whole time, and she cries as she sentences him to an agonizing death. > this is when she realizes Reiner has lost his mind. and maybe she will, too. > it falls to her to capture the Attack Titan. if she can do so, she will be allowed to return to her father. she jeopardizes this mission by sparing Armin’s life, not once, but twice. > she locates Eren (her first friend, the only person who’s made her genuinely smile) and, in her Titan form, decapitates his Titan with her bare hands. > she has killed everyone in her path, but she ultimately fails to take Eren, and cries when she realizes it was all in vain. remember, she is fifteen. > she is then tricked, cornered, and exposed by the last person she would've wanted to do so. the only person who’d ever called her kind, and the very person she'd made the mistake of sparing before. > in a fight she didn’t initiate, she accidentally crushes innocent churchgoers. this the first and only time she personally kills civilians, and it horrifies her. > she fails to capture Eren again. she fails a desperate escape attempt. > crying, she self-induces an indefinite coma on the off-chance she may be able to one day return to her father, knowing she only has 9 years left to live anyway. >  is actually awake the entire time, and can hear everything being said and done around her - including the silence - for four years. she is trapped not only in the crystal, but in her own mind, with her own guilt, for four years. her peers have spent them growing acquainted with relative freedom, themselves, and the rest of the world. but she is physically and experientially still 15, never having known anything but her mission and the internment zone. > she is forcibly de-crystallized into the middle of the Apocalypse. she has 5 years left to live. her father is dead.
So I dunno, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised when she says things a psychopath would say. maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that she single-mindedly clings to the one piece of human affection her 11-year old mind internalized. Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised when she behaves erratically or brutally while still seeming like a child at times. by all accounts, she ought to be way more messed up than she is. but Armin was right. in spite of her upbringing, in spite of her brainwashing, in spite of her mission, in spite of the world, Annie wants to be a kind person.

The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Gifts: Making Memories Last Forever
Weddings are a celebration of love, commitment, and the beginning of a beautiful journey together. And what better way to commemorate this special occasion than with thoughtful gifts that symbolize love and appreciation? In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore everything you need to know about choosing the perfect wedding gifts that will be cherished for years to come.
Tumblr media
1. Understanding the Importance of Wedding Gifts
Wedding gifts are more than just material items; they represent the love, support, and well-wishes of friends and family. They serve as tangible reminders of the joyous occasion and hold sentimental value for the newlyweds.
2. Setting a Budget
Before embarking on your quest for the perfect wedding gift, it's essential to establish a budget that aligns with your financial situation. Setting a budget ensures you can find a meaningful gift without overspending.
3. Personalized Gifts
Nothing says "thoughtful" like a personalized gift. Whether it's custom engraved champagne flutes or a monogrammed photo album, personalized gifts add a special touch that shows you went the extra mile.
4. Practical and Useful Gifts
Opt for gifts that the newlyweds will use and appreciate in their everyday lives. Practical gifts like kitchen appliances, home decor items, or even a subscription service can make their transition into married life smoother.
5. Sentimental Keepsakes
Keepsake gifts such as engraved jewelry, a custom-made artwork, or a handwritten love letter are timeless treasures that capture the essence of the wedding day and evoke fond memories for years to come.
6.Experiences Over Things
Tumblr media
7. Cultural Considerations
Respect the couple's cultural background and traditions when selecting a wedding gift. Thoughtfully chosen gifts that honor their heritage or beliefs will be deeply appreciated.
8. Group Gifting
Join forces with other guests to pool resources and purchase a larger, more extravagant gift that the couple may not be able to afford on their own. Group gifting allows you to give something truly extraordinary.
9. Eco-Friendly Options
For eco-conscious couples, consider environmentally friendly gifts such as reusable kitchenware, organic bedding, or a donation to a conservation charity in their name.
10. DIY Gifts
Put your creative skills to use and craft a one-of-a-kind DIY gift that reflects your personality and relationship with the couple. Handmade gifts often carry special meaning and sentimental value.
11. Wedding Registry Etiquette
If the couple has a wedding registry, use it as a guide for selecting gifts that they truly want and need. Respect their choices and avoid deviating too far from the registry unless you have a particularly meaningful gift in mind.
12. Gift Wrapping and Presentation
Presentation matters just as much as the gift itself. Take the time to wrap your gift beautifully and add a heartfelt note or card to convey your well-wishes.
13. Giving Cash or Gift Cards
When in doubt, cash or gift cards are always appreciated. They give the couple the flexibility to choose something they truly desire or put the money towards their future goals.
14. Keeping Track of Thank-You Notes
If you're the one receiving gifts at your wedding, don't forget to keep track of who gave what to ensure you send out personalized thank-you notes expressing your gratitude.
15. Conclusion: Celebrating Love and Unity
In conclusion, wedding gifts are a symbol of love, support, and celebration. Whether you opt for a personalized keepsake, a practical household item, or an unforgettable experience, the most important thing is to give from the heart and celebrate the joyous union of two souls.

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT TERESA OF ÁVILA The First Female Doctor of the Church Feast Day: October 15
"Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, though all things pass, God does not change. Patience wins all things. But he lacks nothing who possesses God; for God alone suffices."
A Carmelite nun, the prominent mystic, religious reformer, author, theologian of the comtemplative life and of mental prayer, and the founder of the Discalced Carmelites, was born Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada, on March 28, 1515 in Ávila (modern-day Spain). Her paternal grandfather, Juan Sánchez de Toledo, was a marrano or converso, a Jew forced to convert to Christianity or emigrate.
When Teresa's father was a child, Juan was condemned by the Spanish Inquisition for allegedly returning to the Jewish faith, but he was later able to assume a Catholic identity. Alonso Sánchez de Cepeda, Teresa's father, was a successful wool merchant and one of the wealthiest men in Ávila. He bought a knighthood and assimilated successfully into Christian society. Alonso previously married to Catalina, with whom he had three children, and in 1509 in Gotarrendura, he married in to a woman named Beatriz de Ahumada y Cuevas.
She brought her up as a dedicated Christian. Fascinated by accounts of the lives of the saints, she ran away from home at age seven, with her brother Rodrigo, to seek martyrdom in the fight against the Moors. Her uncle brought them home, when he spotted them just outside the town walls. From an early age, she was much impressed by the thought of eternity, and developed a strong desire to consecrate her life to the Lord.
When her mother died, Teresa (now 11 years old) went before the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary and implored with tears: 'From now on, you shall be my mother.'
At 20, much to the disappointment of her pious and austere father, she decided to enter the local easy-going Carmelite convent of the Incarnation, significantly built on top of land that had been used previously as a burial ground for Jews, but was scandalized by the relaxation of religious life. Visitors of all kinds were freely received, personal prayer, and meditation were neglected, and many members were idle and carefree. Nevertheless, she preserved in her vocation.
Notwithstanding the resistance of many ecclesiastics, in 1562, she founded at Ávila the Discalced Carmelites, whose members were committed to strict discipline and almost perpetual silence. They wore sandals instead of shoes as a sign of austerity and poverty. Six years later, together with John of the Cross, Teresa founded the Discalced Carmelite Friars in Duruelo. Intelligence was considered an essential requisite for the reformed nuns.
As Teresa said: 'A person can train herself to piety, but more hardly to intelligence. An Intelligent mind is simple and submissive.'
Teresa enjoyed mystical revelations, and wrote many books filled with sublime doctrine. Teresa died in Alba de Tormes, Salamanca, on October 4, 1582, just as Catholic Europe was making the switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. She was 67.
Her last words were: 'My Lord, it is time to move on. Well then, may your will be done. O my Lord and my Spouse, the hour that I have longed for has come. It is time to meet one another.'
Beatified by Pope Paul V on April 24, 1614 and canonized a saint by Pope Gregory XV on March 12, 1622, her major shrine can be found at the Convent of the Annunciation in Alba de Tormes.
The Cortes Generales exalted her to patroness of Spain in 1627. The University of Salamanca had granted her the title 'Doctor ecclesiae' (Doctor of the Church) with a diploma in her lifetime, but that title is distinct from the papal honour of Doctor of the Church, which is always conferred posthumously. The latter was finally bestowed upon her by Pope Paul VI on September 27, 1970, along with Catherine of Siena, making them the first women to be awarded the distinction.

Is the Used iPhone 12 Still Worth Buying in 2023? A Comprehensive Analysis
Tumblr media
The iPhone 12, released in October 2020, was a significant milestone in Apple's smartphone lineup. It introduced several notable features, including 5G connectivity, the A14 Bionic chip, and a refreshed design. As technology evolves rapidly, potential buyers may wonder if the iPhone 12 is still worth investment in 2023, especially considering a used or refurbished device. This comprehensive analysis will delve into various aspects of the iPhone 12 to help you determine whether it remains a compelling choice two years after its initial release.
I. Hardware and Performance
The iPhone 12's hardware and performance are still impressive in 2023. Its A14 Bionic chip, coupled with 4GB of RAM, ensures smooth and responsive operation. While newer iPhone models have been released since the iPhone 12, the differences in everyday performance are marginal for most users.
Performance: The A14 chip remains a powerhouse, capable of handling demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, and multitasking with ease. Apps load quickly, and the phone feels snappy in everyday use.
5G Connectivity: The iPhone 12's 5G capability is a significant advantage, especially if you're in an area with robust 5G coverage. It ensures faster download and upload speeds, enhancing your overall mobile experience.
Camera: The iPhone 12 features a dual-camera system with a 12-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. While it may not offer the advanced camera features in the latest iPhone models, it still captures excellent photos and videos in various lighting conditions.
II. Software Updates and Longevity
Apple's commitment to providing software updates for its devices ensures that the iPhone 12 remains relevant in 2023. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, the iPhone 6s, released in 2015, still received iOS updates. Therefore, expecting the iPhone 12 to receive iOS updates for several more years is reasonable.
iOS Updates: The iPhone 12 launched with iOS 14 and is compatible with iOS 15, which means it's likely to receive updates until at least iOS 16 or beyond. This extended software support ensures your device stays secure and benefits from new features.
App Compatibility: App developers tend to support older iPhone models for an extended period. Therefore, you can expect the iPhone 12 to run the latest apps and receive updates for the foreseeable future.
III. Design and Build Quality
The iPhone 12's design is timeless and continues to impress in 2023. Its glass and aluminum build exudes a premium feel, and the Ceramic Shield front cover provides improved durability.
Display: The iPhone 12 features a Super Retina XDR OLED display with HDR support. It offers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast. The 6.1-inch size strikes a balance between usability and portability.
Build: The iPhone 12's build quality is top-notch, and its IP68 water and dust resistance rating adds to its durability.
IV. Battery Life
Battery life is a crucial consideration when evaluating the worth of a smartphone. The iPhone 12 offers respectable battery life, but it's essential to remember that battery health may vary in used devices. Here are some battery-related aspects to consider:
Battery Health: The iPhone's battery health degrades over time, affecting its capacity and overall runtime. When buying a used iPhone 12, inquire about the battery health percentage. If it's significantly degraded, you may need to replace the battery for optimal performance.
Battery Optimization: iOS includes features like "Optimized Battery Charging" to extend battery lifespan. Ensure these features are enabled to maximize your iPhone 12's battery longevity.
V. Camera Capabilities
The iPhone 12's camera system can still deliver high-quality photos and videos. While it may not have the advanced computational photography features of the latest models, it can capture stunning shots in various conditions.
Night Mode: The iPhone 12 introduced Night Mode, allowing you to capture impressive low-light photos. It remains a valuable feature for nighttime photography.
Computational Photography: While newer iPhones may offer more advanced computational photography features, the iPhone 12's camera system is no slouch. It can still produce excellent results in terms of image processing.
VI. Price and Value
One of the most compelling reasons to consider a used iPhone 12 in 2023 is its price-to-performance ratio. While newer iPhone models command premium prices, the iPhone 12 offers a well-balanced blend of features and affordability in the used market.
Cost Savings: Used iPhone 12 models are available at significantly lower prices than their original retail cost. This makes it an attractive option for those looking to upgrade without breaking the bank.
Resale Value: iPhones typically retain their value well, so investing in a used iPhone 12 will likely hold its value better than many other smartphones.
VII. Accessories and Ecosystem
The iPhone 12 benefits from Apple's extensive ecosystem of accessories and services. This ecosystem enhances the overall user experience and adds value to the device.
Compatibility: The iPhone 12 is compatible with various accessories, including cases, chargers, and wireless headphones. You can easily find accessories that suit your preferences and needs.
Integration: Apple's ecosystem seamlessly integrates with other devices, such as MacBooks, iPads, Apple Watch, and AirPods. This synergy enhances productivity and convenience.
VIII. Personal Preferences and Use Cases
Whether the used iPhone 12 is worth buying in 2023 depends on your preferences and specific use cases. Here are some factors to consider:
Priorities: What features are most important to you? If you prioritize performance, reliability, and a great display, the iPhone 12 is an excellent choice.
Budget: Your budget plays a significant role. If you're looking for an iPhone with a lower price point while still delivering a premium experience, the iPhone 12 fits the bill.
Length of Ownership: Consider how long you plan to keep the phone. If you intend to upgrade within a year or two, the iPhone 12's longevity and performance should serve you well.
Future-Proofing: If you want the latest and greatest features and don't mind investing in a newer model, you might opt for a more recent iPhone. However, the iPhone 12 is still a capable device that can meet the needs of many users.
In conclusion, the used iPhone 12 remains a compelling choice in 2023 for many buyers. Its powerful hardware, software longevity, impressive camera capabilities, and attractive price point make it a worthy investment. While it may not have the latest features in newer iPhone models, it offers an excellent balance of performance and value.
When considering a used iPhone 12, assess the device's condition, battery health, and price to ensure a good deal. With proper care, the iPhone 12 can continue to provide a premium smartphone experience for years. Ultimately, your decision should align with your preferences, needs, and budget, but the iPhone 12 is a testament to Apple's commitment to creating lasting and high-performing devices.

Should I Choose Composite Bonding or Porcelain Veneers?
When it comes to enhancing your smile, you have various options, but two popular choices are composite bonding and porcelain veneers. Both offer significant cosmetic benefits, but they differ in several aspects. To make an informed decision, it's essential to understand the characteristics and advantages of each.
Tumblr media
Composite Bonding:
Composite bonding is a versatile and cost-effective cosmetic dentistry procedure that involves the application of a tooth-coloured resin material directly to your teeth. Here are some key considerations:
Affordability: Composite bonding is generally more budget-friendly than porcelain veneers. If you're looking for a smile upgrade without breaking the bank, bonding might be the way to go.
Minimally Invasive: Unlike porcelain veneers, which require the removal of a small amount of enamel, composite bonding is minimally invasive. This means less alteration to your natural teeth.
Quick Process: Bonding can typically be completed in a single visit to your dentist. It's a quicker solution for minor cosmetic improvements.
Repairable: If the bonded material chips or stains over time, it can be repaired or touched up without replacing the entire bonding. This makes maintenance easier and more cost-effective.
Natural Look: Skilled dentists can achieve a natural appearance with composite bonding, matching the colour and shape of your existing teeth seamlessly.
Porcelain Veneers:
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Here are some considerations for porcelain veneers:
Durability: Porcelain veneers are highly durable and resistant to staining. They can last 10-15 years or more with proper care.
Stain-Resistant: Porcelain is less prone to staining compared to composite resin. This means your smile will remain bright and vibrant for longer.
Customisation: Veneers offer a high level of customisation. Your dentist can work with you to design the exact shape, size, and shade you desire for your smile makeover.
Permanent Solution: Veneers are a long-term commitment, as they require the removal of a small amount of enamel. Once applied, they cannot be reversed.
Versatility: Porcelain veneers are excellent for addressing a wide range of cosmetic issues, including severe discoloration, misalignment, and gaps between teeth.
Ultimately, the choice between composite bonding and porcelain veneers depends on your specific needs, budget, and preferences. If you're seeking a quick and budget-friendly solution for minor cosmetic improvements, composite bonding may be ideal. On the other hand, if you want a long-lasting, stain-resistant, and highly customisable option for a complete smile transformation, porcelain veneers are worth considering. Consulting with a qualified dentist will help you determine which option is best suited to achieve your desired smile makeover. For more information visit dentist Newcastle.

Buying A Cat - Things To Consider
If you have a really adorable pet, it can look ever more striking with some innovatively designed pet clothing. Pet products such as clothing are handmade and help them remain comfortable and cozy in all seasons. Designer dog clothing is one of the products that are in huge demand. Women's favorite scents? Warm scents (like vanilla) top the list of Midwestern women's favorite scents. Women in the South go for clean/soapy scents. Almost everyone loves lavender and roses. I told her I could not have surgery until after January 10th because I had committed to some substitute teaching jobs for some dear friends. She said that was okay but I needed to call the hospital and go in for a pre-surgery screening. She said she would send in the orders to the hospital.

A healthy pet will be able to withstand the effects of winter more readily. Young, elderly or ailing pets are much less able to adapt to the colder temperatures, and as a result, we need to take special care to ensure their safety. Although your pet cat likes sleeping on your couch or steps, it does not mean that it wouldn't appreciate a nice warm bed. You can still go ahead and get your cat a bed, and perhaps it will take interest in it and somehow, enjoy sleeping in it. Although it won't be sleeping in the bed every night, you'll still know that the bed will become one of the many sleeping places it will visit, and cats enjoy being territorial, and owning a new bed will bring them satisfaction. C. Last but not the least, is the heated window sill cat bed heated bed. This bed for your cat is removable and easy to assemble to any type and size of windowsill. It can support up to 45 pounds of weight. The bed is 12 degrees to 15 degrees above ambient temperature and can get warm for up to 102 degrees when in use. This is recommended for year-round use. What Does Being a Nail Technician Cost?
You may be wondering how much tuition, courses, and materials will cost if you're considering a career as a nail technician. Thankfully, you don't need a lot of cash to simple nail ideas start a career as a nail technician.
The cost of nail tech training programs can range from $3,000 to $10,000, but most institutions just require a minimal down payment and let you pay the remainder over time. If you want to learn more complex methods, private nail tech classes can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 on average.
In addition, there are ongoing expenses like license renewal, which can cost anywhere from $25 and $100 every two years, and personal supplies, which are different for each person.
1. Considerations For Additional Nail Technician Costs
Out-of-State License Transfer - You probably will relocate to another state at some point in the future. This necessitates the transfer of your nail license, which can run anywhere from $15 to $50. You could have to pay for further schooling if the state you're transferring to demands more hours of education than your current one did.
Transportation - Nail technicians are unable to conduct their work remotely from home, sadly. Every day after work, you'll need a way to travel to your nail shop and back home. Depending on the distance, gas (or electricity) costs will change. Booth Rental - The monthly rental price will change depending on the location if you choose to rent a booth to work independently. instruments - While some nail salons provide their own instruments for customers to use, if yours does not, you may need to buy items such a nail drill, drill bits, cuticle nippers, cuticle pushers, nail clippers, brushes, scissors, and UV gel light. The price will vary based on the kind of instruments you want to buy.
Tumblr media
2. Advanced Nail Technology Programs
If you are more committed to your goal of becoming a professional nail technician, you should probably enroll in an advanced course that will teach you concepts that are not normally covered in nail schools. These include methods like acrylic painting, nail drilling, nail shaping (coffins, almonds, stilettos, etc.), and nail designing. These classes will probably cost between $1,000 to $5,000, as was previously suggested. Before you have a good grip of all the fundamentals of nail care, I wouldn't advise enrolling in advanced classes.
3. Conclusion
In conclusion, education is the major expense of being a nail technician. Everything else is actually inexpensive after that's over with. The majority of nail salons will take care of the equipment and supplies for you, so you won't need to simple nails art spend much on the essentials. Fortunately, a lot of the equipment and supplies are long-lasting, so you can use them at another salon later on. So why do you still wait? Get to school and start working as a nail technician!

Dr Gregory Hough South Africa
The saying ‘your test will turn into your testimony and your mess will turn into your message’ is certainly true for her. Engela realised that, although she rejected God in her youth, God was the one who was present all through her life and the one who carried her by way of each crisis. God values each of us and takes care of all of us – kids, as nicely as adults. According to Psalm eight God created us somewhat lower than the heavenly beings and topped us with glory and honour. Engela and Jacques, the coed who did the club’s books had become good pals and started sharing their life stories with one another. He once took her to a resort where a consumer had booked her and begged her to not try to escape, because he knew the house owners would find her once more.
Thank you BLSA, MSC and all these involved in making it happen despite all the obstacles thrown in your way. Sadly had to miss this trip, but was on the 2017 Flock which was the expertise of a lifetime. This was the most wonderful trip for birding that I have dr gregory hough south africa ever accomplished. I have been birding for around 25 years, and may say with confidence that the boat trip to Marion Island with Bird Life was one of the best birding experience I truly have ever had.
Secondly, the variable used to characterize African immigration captures those residing legally in South Africa and doesn't replicate the presence of unlawful immigrants. Unfortunately information documenting the presence of illegal immigrants in communities is never out there and positively not at a suburb stage of aggregation. Lastly, the examine doesn't bear in mind the placement of the offender of the criminal incident. An offender residing in suburb A may commit an offence in suburb B and this could have little to do with the social disorganisation ‘status’ in suburb B. Indeed, research by Breetzke & Horn5 has shown how offenders in Tshwane are spatially clustered in some areas during which crime itself is comparatively low. Again, this limitation is difficult to counter as a end result of crime information usually collected by the SAPS doesn't report the offender of the crime and certainly not the offender’s handle.
On Thursday morning, 18 March 2021, the annual Neil Aggett Memorial Lecture was delivered at Kingswood College. The lecture takes place annually to celebrate the life of Dr Neil Aggett and is held to honour his legacy. This year we held a hybrid Neil Aggett Memorial Lecture with Dr Zweli Mkhize as this year’s speaker. The Summer Term of 2021 is over and while Covid remains, it was heart-warming to see school-life increasingly return to regular because the time period went on. On Tuesday afternoon, 15 March 2022, the annual Neil Aggett Memorial Lecture was delivered at Kingswood College. This yr we are fortunate enough to have our speaker join us at Kingswood College once more to deliver their speech in individual.
Hosted by DSG and SAC this festival attracts the highest teams within the Eastern Cape and Border regions. At our annual Neil Aggett Memorial Lecture at present, a particular award was made to Old Kingswoodian, Uyinene Mrwetyana who was tragically killed last yr. She has posthumously been awarded the Neil Aggett Memorial Award.
I daresay they taught MSC a thing or two and may have inspired them to do very different sorts of `adventure’ cruises in future. Birdlife SA actually deserve to win this travel award. They put SA on the world map for birders and adventurers alike. I waited 15 years for the opportunity to participate in a pelagic birding experience. BLSA & MSC Cruises certainly are grasp organisers.
Essential that wildlife be restored to the finest way nature supposed. BirdLife do such great work not just for birds but for biodiversity. They deserve and need all the publicity they'll get. How fantastic to be a fowl with full freedom of the skies bringing such pleasure with their vibrant plumage and cheerful chirping.
Fantastic expedition for birding specialist and fanatic. A journey loved by young and old from all walks of life. Our youngest beloved each second and even refused to go to dinner because he’d somewhat have listened to the specialists talking about birds and dialog dr gregory hough south africa. It was a visit that was a dream come true, made attainable by BirdLife South Africa. Bringing tourism and conservation together in assist of such a important downside dealing with the albatrosses is amazing!

Top 10 Questions You Should Always Ask Your Lasik Surgeon by Dr. Rajiv Bajaj
Before you opt for LASIK, the most important thing is to be confident in the procedure. You should be comfortable with your surgeon. Get as much information as possible beforehand, as preparing for surgery can be quite overwhelming.
Here is the list of questions you should ask your surgeon while preparing for surgery during the consultation. You should not hesitate to ask other questions during the consultation. When you feel confident, comfortable, and ready to schedule surgery, you will know you have found the right surgeon and place to get your LASIK
Am I A Perfect Candidate For Lasik Surgery?
Before undergoing LASIK, it is essential to evaluate if you can undergo LASIK surgery. LASIK is not for everyone. Your surgeon should be honest and open about that. Your LASIK surgeon will perform some tests and determine whether you are eligible for LASIK or not. Several conditions are considered while deciding eligibility, like having enough corneal thickness, not being pregnant, nursing, and not having corneal disease, autoimmune diseases, or severe dry eyes.
What Is The Experience And Prior Success Rates Of The Doctor Performing My Surgery?
You should be confident about the surgeon performing LASIK. LASIK centers have different surgeons to perform the surgery. While each surgeon has almost the similar qualifications they should achieve to perform LASIK, each surgeon’s experience varies. Therefore, you should check for the surgeon’s qualification, experience, training, and record track before committing to the treatment.
Does Lasik Provide Me Permanent Clear Vision?
LASIK permanently changes the corneal shape, which allows the better focus of the light on the retina. It may last permanently in some people for a lifetime, whereas in some, it may last only some years and may need additional treatment down the line. Therefore, the duration varies from patient to patient. As with age, with other body parts, our eyes age too. As you get older, the symptoms may worsen as it does not prevent age-related eyesight degeneration.
What To Expect During The Surgery?
You should have a detailed overview and understanding of the LASIK procedure. Discuss the entire process from start to finish with your surgeon. Your surgeon will explain:
Step by step, each process
The time required for completing the process
Results you can expect
The time needed for healing after the surgery
Advantages and side effects
Precautions to be taken
What Are The Risks Of Lasik Surgery?
All surgeries have some risks associated with them. However, the risks associated with LASIK are generally mild which are:
Blurry and Hazy vision
Dry eyes
Infection in the eyes
They are treatable, and your surgeon will prescribe the eye drops for them.
The significant risk associated with LASIK is flap complications: flap wrinkling, flap breaking, displacing from its position, or debris trapped under the flap.
How Much Is The Cost Of Lasik Surgery?
The cost of LASIK is different at each LASIK center. It is because the cost of LASIK depends on the center where you are getting the treatment and the visual refractive correction needed for an eye.
Discuss the entire cost of the procedure with your surgeon. There should not be any extra hidden costs or fees for the surgeon, post-operative measures, or prescriptions.
How Much Time It Takes To Complete Lasik Surgery?
The actual surgery will take less than 15 minutes to complete. However, the laser is not used for more than 60 seconds on the eye.
Would I Feel Any Pain During The Lasik Surgery?
No, the surgeon uses the numbness drops in your eyes when performing the surgery. So there will be no pain at the time of surgery.
You may experience mild pain after completion of surgery once the numbness effects subside. The doctor will prescribe some medication and drops for pain.
How Would My Vision Change After Lasik Surgery?
An experienced eye surgeon performs the surgery. It has an almost 95% of patient satisfaction rate. The safety and efficacy of this technique are high and many people don’t consider the second LASIK.
How Much Time Will It Take To Heal My Eyes After Lasik Surgery?
You will have a blurry or hazy vision for 4-5 hours and will see the results within the first 24 hours from the surgery. In weeks you will see significant results. You will have a stable vision in 3-4 months. The irritation and discomfort that you feel after the surgery may subside after a few hours.

How to REALLY Learn Tarot in One Day
Reading tarot like a master requires a natural talent for divination. Barring that, years of constant practice will suffice.
But anyone can learn the basics. And it should not take longer than a day to cover. Start in the morning, and by evening, you will be a tarot reader.
This post is Day 1 of the Divination class that I teach. By 8:30 PM, my teenage initiates were already correctly predicting each other’s crushes and the winners of tennis matches.
THE DAY BEFORE
Get a deck and a resource.
Acquire a Rider-Waite deck or a clone of it. You may opt for something else, but be forewarned that you could lose out on a multitude of symbolism. The Rider-Waite may not be the prettiest, but there is nothing more complete.
Find a reliable resource. The Ultimate Guide to Tarot by Liz Dean is a perfect book for beginners. So is Labyrinthos’ website, if you prefer something free of charge.
THE DAY ITSELF
9–10 AM
Pick one keyword for each card.
With a belly full of breakfast, quickly skim through your resource and pick just one keyword per card. For example, “destruction” for The Tower, “happiness” for The Sun, and “wealth” for the Ten of Pentacles. Note it all down on paper or on your phone.
10–11 AM
Associate the word with the image.
Look at your keyword side by side the card. Make an undeniable connection.
Why is The Tower “destruction”? Because the tower on the card has been “destroyed”.
Why is The Sun “happiness”? Because the child on the card looks “happy”.
Why is the Ten of Pentacles “wealth”? Because the family on the card looks “wealthy”.
Memorization becomes much easier when based on visual correlation.
11 AM–12 PM
Quiz yourself.
Hide your notes from view. Keeping in mind the word-image associations you made, go through each card, reciting its keyword. Put in one pile all the cards you remembered the keyword for, and in another, the ones that escaped your memory.
Then look at your notes side-by-side the second pile to remind yourself of what you missed. Go through the whole pile again, repeating the process until you can recite the keywords for all 78 cards without making a mistake. One card, one word. Should be as simple as pre-school.
12–1 PM
Take a break.
Have a meal. Nap a little. Stretch a bit. Give your mind space to absorb everything you just memorized.
1–2 PM
Quiz yourself again.
You are guaranteed to forget some of your keywords. That is fine. It is why you are doing this again, to strengthen your memory. Be patient with yourself, and keep going through the whole deck until you are no longer making any mistakes.
2–3:30 PM
Pick a key phrase for each reversed card.
Quickly skim through your resource again. Now that you know the upright meanings, reversals should be fairly easy, because they can only be one of three: the opposite of the upright card; the upright card watered down; the upright card made worse.
To illustrate:
If The Devil upright is “addiction”, reversed it is “overcoming addiction” — the opposite.
If the Nine of Cups is “fulfillment”, reversed, it is “fulfillment delayed” — watered down.
If the Seven of Swords upright is “manipulation”, reversed it is “betrayal” — made worse.
Note it all down next to your upright keywords.
3:30–5 PM
Quiz yourself on both upright and reversed meanings.
Hide your notes from view. Keeping in mind the upright-reversed meaning associations you made, go through each card one by one, reciting its upright meaning followed by its reversed meaning.
Like before, put in one pile the cards you had no problem with, and in another, the cards that escaped your memory. Look at your notes for those you missed. Go through the whole pile again, repeating the process until you can recite the upright keywords and the reversed key phrases for all 78 cards, without making a mistake.
5–6 PM
Take another break.
Have another meal. Nap some more. Stretch again. Let your mind and body breathe.
6–7:15 PM
Quiz yourself again on both upright and reversed meanings.
Go through each card one by one, reciting its upright meaning followed by its reversed meaning.
Like before, put in one pile the cards you had no problem with, and in another, the cards that escaped your memory. Look at your notes side by side the cards you missed. And go through the full deck again until you are no longer missing a beat.
7:15–8 PM
Read.
For the last time today, bring out your resource, and from it, choose any spread you like. But if you really want to do it right, the Celtic Cross spread is recommended. Do not worry about being overwhelmed. You can leave the book or the website open on the page where the spread is.
Ask tarot your question. Without looking at your notes, interpret its answer to the best of your ability using the keywords and key phrases you just memorized.
Congratulations. You are now a tarot reader.
But if you wish to keep learning, then keep reading.
THE DAYS AFTER
Day 1 – Day 4
For the next four days, quiz yourself again on both upright and reversed meanings, to really cement them in your mind. Then perform the same spread you did the first time, but ask a different question each time. Interpret the cards to the best of your knowledge. This should only take an hour at the most.
Day 5
By now, everything you learned has been drilled into memory. Feel free to expand your knowledge. Read your book cover to cover. Fully explore your chosen website.
Most of the new meanings you will learn will be related to the ones you committed to heart, so do not worry about being confused. For example, if your keyword for The Empress is “abundance”, you will find that its other meanings are “harvest”, “creativity” and “fertility”. “Harvest” is financial abundance; “creativity”, an abundance of skill; “fertility”, an abundance of growth. They vary slightly, but they are all the same, essentially.
All the best in your tarot journey.

John Paul Jones featured in "Out to Lunch" from Hit Parader (1986) by Jodi Beth Summers
More legible transcription below.
Each month Hit Parader takes a noted rock and roll band to lunch to see if food really does make the man. This month's lunch muncher is the former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones.
"You know, I've never really done interviews before," revealed 40-year-old music veteran John Paul Jones. "Whenever somebody interviewed Led Zeppelin they'd talk to Robert (Plant), then to Jimmy (Page) if he was in a talking mood. By the time they got to Bonzo (John Bonham) and me it was, 'Well, we've got to go now.' That was fine by me. Interviews make me nervous."
John Pal Jones, nee John Baldwin, speaks with sophisticated reserve, carefully measuring the impact of his words. His approach is understandable. After all, the former Zeppelin bassman hasn't really done much of anything in the rock spotlight for the past six years. Okay, he made a 15-minute appearance before 80 million people at Live Aid last July, and he penned a soundtrack, Scream For Help, for a movie which was never released, but there's been little else. So why is someone of his stature re-entering the rock world with a movie soundtrack of all things?
"With a solo album you have to commit yourself to something," Jones stated candidly. "I'm interested in so many different styles of music, it would be very difficult to put out a solo album. My interests are far too varied. With a soundtrack it's very easy to do because it's supposed to be that way."
Eclectic? John Paul Jones? Yes, he had a lot of finesse for a heavy metal bassist, and in his pre-Zeppelin days he did perform countless studio sessions with the likes of Herman's Hermits, the Rolling Stones and Dusty Springfield...but eclectic?
"The soundtrack isn't all I've done in the past six years," Jones clarified politely. "My main interest is composing contemporary classical music. I guess you'd call it computer music. Essentially, I'm writing new music for classical musicians. There are a lot of very fine American musicians in the classical world who are quite enlightened. They really enjoy having someone from my background do a piece forthem. It doesn't have the academic starting point, and to them it's more vital."
As you would expect, computer composed classical music is a new and wide open field -- making Jones a pioneer. Since this is currently his primary interest, one wonders if it will be his next vinyl release.
"Not really," he stated candidly, the gleam in his eye underlining his pride in this work. "That aspect doesn't interest me. At this point I'd like to see a couple hundred people sitting there enjoying it. My pieces are an instrumentalist's repertoire, and I'd rather have them toured around the world than put on vinyl. IN this field, I'm not a musician anyway; I'm a composer - or as it is called, a sound projectioner. I sit at a board and conduct an orchestra. It's interesting."
John takes a sip of light beer, leans back in his chair and smiles. He seems pleased to be discussing this project and find himself in the public eye for essentially the first time since Bonham's death in 1980.
"I will attempt to explain to you how this all works, but remember it comes together in a very difficult way. You've got to conduct the orchestra with the help of the computer and listen to various cues. The orchestra has to know what you're doing and they've got to be comfortable with what they're playing.
"I'm trying to expand on that now. I'm working on some new programs that will get one computer to generate the song and another to compose off of what the first computer is doing. Essentially, you get one computer to listen to a person or another computer and react to it the way a musician or an orchestra would. What I'm doing, actually, is getting into a level of artificial intelligence through music."
And does quiet, analytical John Paul Jones feel this work may have the historical impact of his work with Led Zeppelin?
"I don't think of Led Zeppelin as having an impact on the course of history," she said with a laugh. "Several hundred years from now will there be anybody around to listen to it anyway?"
