I was never able to really get a feel for Leafpool's personality in the books, especially since she's always contrasted with Squirrelflight who has a pretty consistent personality (at least for Warriors standards). She's kind of like Hollyleaf where they change her personality depending on what they want to happen in the plot I think. How do you approach writing her? I'm really fond of your Spottedleaf, so I was wonder if Leafpool has any fun quirks like her.
Tumblr media
[ID: Leafpool from Warrior Cats. She is chunky, has a mane, and green eyes. Her stripes are horizontal.]
I approach Leafpool as being VERY tired. Her life is characterized as never really being in control of her own fate, being punished for any simple pleasures she takes tenfold, so I write her as becoming very defeatist. Poor girl.
Because Leafpool is never in REAL control, somehow, it gives her this air that she's in total control. You can't scare her. StarClan can tell her that her kids are cursed, Hollyleaf can tell her to kill herself, Bramblestar can jump in front of her and snarl, she's never more than briefly phased. "Yeah sure this may as well happen."
In a way, she's almost the total opposite of Jayfeather, who never met a rule he wasn't willing to punch. It is interesting that each one of the Three has a unique relationship to the fate that chains up Leafpool.
Allows herself to love Mothpaw... war breaks out and Moth has to return to RiverClan.
Tries to warn Squilf about Brambleclaw in spite of StarClan wanting them to be together, first fight with her sister ever.
Runs off with Crowfeather, returns home to find out her mentor died before she could say goodbye.
Gives birth, allows Squilf to take them, eventually gets threatened by Hollyleaf.
(side note: i am considering leafpool's name being an honor title, with her old name being Leafstripe, and Squirrelpaw failing two assessments just like Nightheart)
But a big change in my rewrite is that the dramatic scenes that aren't consistent with that resigned sorrow go to Crowfeather. He's a complete and utter ham. Leafpool isn't out here trying to name Hollykit 'Crowkit' or confessing her unwavering love for him in front of his wife and child, THAT is Crowfeather making an ass of HIMSELF in front of that wife and child lmao.
Leaf's feelings are more complicated and repressed. Hard life.
On the bright side though, there ARE changes from canon so that the Clan has more nuanced feelings about her instead of her whole life being a nonstop beatdown.
Most of ThunderClan, which heavily leans Fire Alone, agrees that Leafpool did the right thing by giving her kits to Squilf to invoke the Queen's Rights. Sure she lapsed, but Fire Alone cats are softer on the Cleric's Vow in general.
Bramblestar demoting her in Cruel Season has a VERY mixed reception. It's Leafpool!! Leafpool Moonpool!!!
Her death many years later in the Sister Raid actually tanks Bramblestar's reputation. It was seen as cruel, pointless, and avoidable, and they lost a very popular and experienced Cleric.
(side note again: still considering how the 'unclear sign' plot beat is going to go in my rewrite, because i cannot imagine jayfeather not just lying about that. "yeah yeah yeah they said yes bramblestar, im supposed to heal this cat obviously. move.")
Misc Design Stuff:
She's got a mane that you can see on Dovewing too, since Dove is Leaf's grandchild now.
Like Sandstorm, uncle Longtail, and grandpaw Runningwind, Leafpool's stripes are horizontal.
I'm still doing research into what she has specifically, but Bonefall Leafpool is intersex. Those are stud jowls.
Considering the cat version of PCOS because it explains a lot; weight gain, a receding hairline that could be shared with Lionblaze, the jowls as a facial hair parallel, difficult pregnancy, etc.
Still doing my research though.
And lastly, Mothpool is endgame in this Rewrite. They can never be together officially, but it's about the yearning. It's about finding freedom with your escapist fantasy partner or being in shackles with your true love. She chose the CHAINS.

Let's talk about Queen Charlotte. If you still need a reason to watch Queen Charlotte, do it to watch India Amarteifio's magnificent performance. Her first scene, she is silent, and I wondered if she got the part solely because she looks so much like the elder Queen Charlotte.
Tumblr media
But then she opens her mouth and lays claim to this character during a monologue about her GOWN of all things. She goes off on a rant about her gown that showcases her intelligence, her social acumen, her awareness of political realities, her biting wit, her anger at her situation, and the whole time she's clearly one of the most beautiful woman in the world. That's just in the first 10 minutes of the show!
Her character development is finely handled, and the dialogue is top notch. Seriously, two of her declaration of love make the Top Ten Best Declarations of Love of All Time.
"I care not for his sanity! I care for his happiness! I care for his soul!" It's too bad George didn't hear that, but then when they meet again a few minutes later, she tells George, "I will stand between the heavens and the earth, and I will tell you where you are!" Her love is fierce and unapologetic.
What a strong and admirable young woman. Truly an incredible character.
But she is still human; she still has flaws. We see her insecurities, vulnerability and loneliness. Then, when she's older, we see the cost of the strength she expended to help her husband. She has nothing left for her 13 children.
Tumblr media
Her children tell her she was their queen, but not their mother. Damningly, Charlotte gets defensive. Rather than listening and healing old wounds, she defends herself. Even when her daughter tells her about multiple miscarriages, even when her son needs compassion, she defends herself instead.
The only person she will talk to about her mothering is Brimsley. He is polite but he won't lie. Instead, he phrases it as a comment on the fact that all of them serve the King. He doesn't really answer the question, and Charlotte shifts to asking Brimsley if he cares for her. He says yes, but she doesn't say she cares of him. She's apparently held herself aloof from him through their decades as Queen and Queen's man. She must care about him on some level, but she can't say or it or show it -- the same way she treated her children. The only person who gets the full measure of Charlotte's love is George. She has nothing left for anyone else.
She is a fiercely loyal wife, a strong queen, and a distant mother. She loves gossip and the marriage market of the ton. She's one of the most complex and well-rounded female characters in any show, and definitely ranks at the top of interesting characters in the Bridgerton universe.

Kentucky here. Today, I went for my hair appointment and my stylist asked me about the hub bub about Princess Catherine. The reason...the stylist's sister was talking about it. The stylist mentioned that her sister never talks about the BRF. I told her it was a bunch of people stirring the pot over nothing. First, I told her that Adobe Photoshop and the rest of the Adobe suite of software is fairly complicated and sophisticated. I have a license to use them for my graduate degree projects and I am struggling with them since I don't use them every day for work. The more you use the software, the better you get at it. I understand the Princess of Wales statement about being an amateur and not doing so well at it.
Secondly, I pointed out that there are so many conspiracy theories about her health and recovery. I also shared this story with my stylist today. My SIL had diverticulitis and had scheduled surgery to take care of her chronic condition. The surgery was expected to be 2 hours but ended up being 6 hours. The reason? The infection had spread through the large intestine and infected other organs causing several of the organs to become fused. After the surgery, she had a colostomy bag for several weeks to allow the large intestine to heal. She lost about 35-40 lbs while healing. Did the Princess look thinner in the video? Yes, but this is to be expected. The body's energy is being used to heal itself.
Finally, the idea that sitting and editing pictures or doing computer work while recovering from surgery is so tiring. Oh my goodness! What a load of trash! I was taking online classes a couple of weeks after a knee replacement. On what planet do these reporters live?
This whole thing is just outrageous and out of control. I'm really wondering what SHOULD we actually be looking at instead of this big to do about a badly photoshopped picture. What IS alarming is the hacking of her medical information which was reported today.
Hi Kentucky! We know that Harry and his wife are behind this. They have stepped it up to deflect from the Royal Website. They no doubt are very angry….their new con project will fail, they don’t have anything going for them…big mistake going after Catherine….I think interesting things are going on in the background…lets watch and see….❤️

Unicorn Warriors Eternal ep5
Welll that was a lot more like it. Finally started to get interesting.
All I can say is things make a LOT more sense with Melinda and Merlin. And as much as Edred stated Emma was in the way. I think this episode proves it wrong. Emma and Melinda need to work together to finish the job(if I’m assuming it can be finished). And this was a good change from these two constantly butting heads.
Emma got to see why Melinda is the way she is and gain empathy. I think that understanding will help Melinda heal from what she’s avoiding (trauma wise) and Emma understand her spirit?/incarnation whatever. I did enjoy the child Melinda getting along with Emma. Besides the factor that we saw Melinda as a child, who did make mistakes, Emma herself got to see a side of her she probably hides, her vulnerability.
That being said... I do have questions. I got glimpses and  but I think we only got part of the picture... so Melinda is Merlin’s daughter... so I assume Edred is his son-in-law. Merlin knew his daughter had magical abilities and choose to hide them from his wife. And his wife is... Morgan (maybe Morgan Le Fay? maybe that could had just been picked at random)
My question is... what was Merlin referring to when he said he hid the truth from her intentions. Is he referring to that she’s too over protective? Now yes I know she stated it... but unless Melinda was hurting people(which didn’t seem the case so far). Why was she so hellbent on removing the powers from her? The “evil” wasn’t there yet. The magic itself is questionable... considering it fought back even without Melinda really using her full strength.
Was Morgan honestly just trying to stop Melinda from being like them or her father? (To which I’d have to ask why marry a wizard in general that increases your chances) Still confused on the situation. Is their magic alive or something? Cause Morgan did argue with it oO? But again... she herself has something similar.
So the evil itself is... technically Merlin’s wife... fused? Or cursed by Melinda’s magic.... well kinda makes more sense now why Melinda seems triggered by that “what did you do response”. I honestly thought it was Emma’s doubt, but its Melinda’s own subconscious from the trauma of what happened with her mother. To which it makes me wonder... is this thing even evil to begin with. Merlin was willing to put his own daughter on a never ending life loop to stop his wife. But to my knowledge (again so far we’re only getting a glimpse so don’t jump me on fanguessing)... but not to kill her.
And I’m just gonna say it. If Merlin blamed his child for whatever happened(and no I’m not blaming a child for that scenario Melinda was literally a baby).. could explain even more why she’s so... gonna say it coldhearted a bit. If thats the case, Merlin(even if there’s a chance he took it back) blamed his child and made her constantly train to fix this mistake. Even when Melinda was hurt in the pilot, Merlin never showed a hint of worry unlike her teammates.
Whether its meant to or not, it makes you feel like Merlin used his daughter and instead of taking some responsibility/ or comforting his child he just made her do all the hard work for something that technically was caused by his lack of communication with his wife. And this magic? I dunno we need more time on that one.
Plussss would explain that voice Melinda heard in the pilot. That being said.. does that mean the fox (or kitsune) is just an agent? Why would the kitsune be helping “Morgan”/the evil? Hmmmm
Then Winston, some ACTUAL use for this guy. It was nice to see him for once not going worrying about Emma every 5 seconds. Buttt now we have a more interesting development...
Did the “Evil” lure him there on purpose? Or was that a victim genuinely warning him to stay away? As for the obvious werewolf development. That really depends on what version Tartakovsky has picked. Werewolves aren’t just “mindless monsters” now thanks to a lot of media. I do think he is picking a somewhat typical cliche that he won’t have control over it. But who knows?
Maybe he will? Maybe he’ll ACTUALLY be of some help for the team or he’ll be “Oh shoot my fiance has to save the world... but I can help” (So long as there’s no silver bullets involved)
Buttt if it does go the typical monster cliche. Then yeah that goes two ways... one Emma/Melinda has to cure him. Or two... Winston can’t be controlled/or helped and she’ll be forced to kill him. Hmm either way he finally got interesting

Alright, I humbly apologize for the delay, but I am presenting chapter 4 of The Wings Of An Enigmatic.
Through unfortunate time schedules, intense editing and battling procrastination I have completed and it is a very long chapter with lots of name dropping, canon characters and new characters and plus a slight premonition spoiler delving into the future seasons of Teen Wolf. Plus a brief heartbreaking angsty moment between Seraph and someone familiar.
So be prepared.
(Note: Unfortunately due to Tumblr's writing settings, I was unable to have a huge chunk of the story underlined with italics because for some odd reason, Tumblr does not have an underlined text feature. So the premonition scene is in italics sadly and only some words/number are color coded and bold to let you know hints)
Tags list for the series: @rhyslahey @phantomraeken @bendystrah @hemlocksandfoxgloves @thiamsxbitch
(If you want me to add you into the tags list, let me know and I will make sure you are updated on this series)
Chapter 4: Unpremeditated Future
Tumblr media
"-Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
"-Since when you became Einstein?"
"-Since when were you so interested of my input on the matter? I presumed humans were nescient."

The moment Seraph, his mother and sister reach the driveway of the estate, they see a silver 1972 Daimler Double Six parked outside the cobblestone courtyard. They all know who is home, the father of Seraph and Celes and husband of Elizabeth: Azrael Kingfisher.
“Dad is home. How wonderful. I am pretty sure his precognition must have seen your act of Valor earlier.” Seraph utters out, getting out of the car.
“Yes and despite what your father may think, he knows it would be for a good cause.” Elizabeth remarks before getting out of the car before heading to the vermillion mahogany double doors of the estate. The moment they enter the door and step into the foyer, they are greeted by a deep voice.
“Must I ask what made you pursue that courageous endeavor that was enacted in my premonition?” The trio turn to see Azrael enter with a grim expression. Elizabeth sighs at her husband’s concern. “The faint scent of blood obscures my sense of smell and it is radiating from you, darling.”
“The hambone and the bruise already healed, despite the tiny drop of blood that leaked out of the bruised wound. But I am not limping anymore nor am I vulnerable to such a minor inconvenience. Besides, it was either me or Sheriff Stilinski, and we’re both aware that a human does not bear supernatural healing factors like ours.” Elizabeth inferred while dropping her handbag on the davenport of the L-shaped designed furniture. Seraph and Celes make no room to talk as they prefer not to recall the events.
“I am very well aware, but no one I love dearly, especially my own wife, should put themselves in danger. After all we have to hide our identities with the cursed Argents in town, as well as that pugnacious and barbaric Alpha in the shadows of Beacon Hills.” Azrael cautions, “That also does not exempt the two of you.” He points at his children.
“Yes, thank you very much, dad.” Celes dryly accepts.
“Oh please, if the Alpha knew what we are, he would have exterminated us a long time ago, considering that werewolves majority of the times are no match for a-”
“My dearests,” Seraph’s words were interjected by a gentle but firm tone coming from the dining room. The clicking of heels echo as a woman with white hair tied in a neat bun, soft but striking amber eyes that were not like Azrael’s gray ones, and a skin tone with little to no wrinkles emerges from the doorway leading to the dining room. She wore a beige turtleneck with a white knee-length skirt and white heels to match the lower half of her attire. The Grandmother of Seraph and Celes, the mother of Azrael and mother-in-law of Elizabeth, and the matriarch of the Kingfisher family, Concordia Kingfisher. “Please, let us not skirmish over a courageous and brave act that ensured the safety of the Sheriff.”
The rest of the family calmed down and dutifully made their way to the Victorian dining hall with a table of many dishes. As the butler, Arnold and the housekeeper, Milene handed out the silverware and utensils for dinner, Seraph stares at the array of antipastos, primos, secondos, and dolces in the table. No sign of repulsive asparagus.
“Yes Seraph, I made sure there would be no asparagus in our dinner tonight. Despite how common it is in Italian cuisine, your abhorrence of it is well regarded.” His grandmother spoke, already aware of Seraph’s wary gaze.
“Merci Beaucoup, grand-mére. I think I will enjoy our dinner tonight, unlike the other nights.” Seraph smiles tensely, as he takes the antipasto course first, filling his plate with insalata caprese and his glass with sparkling water. Concordia rolls her eyes at her grandson’s witty response before stabbing her fork in her own plate of antipasto platter.
“May I inquire about your impressions from your parent-teacher conference, Seraph? Notwithstanding the fact that your grade-point average is at a 4.7 in Beacon Hills High I presume.” His father speaks while he sips red wine.
“Your presumption about our son’s grades is impeccable.” Elizabeth verified while she fills her plate with bruschetta and prosciutto e melone. Seraph was about to reply but was cut off by his sister’s snarky words.
“Oh yes. Albert Einstein here has such a wonderful grade-point average that he has 100s in almost all of his classes yet he is unhappy that his academic rival has a 5.0 grade point average, 3 points higher than him.” Celes mocks him, biting a piece of her bruschetta. Seraph scoffs.
“You have such a penchant for pettiness. You are better off being Lydia’s loyal servant and lackey with that incorrigible attitude.” Seraph quips while inserting a sliced tomato in his mouth.
“Because Lydia is better than you in every-”
“Anyways,” He ignores his sister’s rambling, “my grades are indeed immaculate. Therefore this determines the conclusion of this conversation.” Seraph goes back to consuming his salad. His father nods his head knowingly before engaging in filling his plate with the primo course.
“Oh, let me remind you all. Ephraim, Volumnia, and their children will be coming here in 3 weeks.” Concordia announces to the group.
“Why? We already celebrated Christmans and New Years with them. What more do they want from our presence?” Seraph questions a little insensitively. Concordia sighs out with an emotionless look.
“They are your family, Seraph. Your uncle, aunt and cousins are family that would love to see you.”
“Oh yes, family only when they want to irritate you when you want time to concentrate on important matters.” Seraph states while he stabs his fork in the salad, before sipping his drink.
“Are you only saying that because you do not want to deal with Coriolanus?” Celes asks smugly. This moron.
Coriolanus Kingfisher is the cousin of Seraph and Celes, and the son of Ephraim Kingfisher and Volumnia Kingfisher. A graduate student at Stanford University and was once a close friend of Camden Lahey. They have been inseparable for their entire childhood and adolescence, until that incident that happened in the pool at the Lahey residence with one of Seraph’s former childhood friends, Matthew Daehler. Ever since the neglect and treatment of that incident and how carefree Isaac’s older brother was, Coriolanus cut off all ties with him. His 24 year old cousin was glad he didn’t join the swimming team back then. In doing so however, Seraph severed his ties with Isaac and Matt due to the scandalous actions of Mr. Lahey at that incident. His grandmother imparted the notion of their family distancing themselves from the Laheys, the Daehlers, and anyone else who was involved in that incident along with their familial ties. Severed relations aside, his cousin tends to be teasing, charming, a douchebag, and a prankster at heart. Not to mention he tends to tease his height too, as his cousin is 6 '4 feet tall and dwarfs almost everyone in the family except his father, Coriolanus’s father and mother.
The thought of seeing his older cousin fills him with unbridled aggravation. The catalyst for a sit-com drama that makes Seraph the universe’s punching bag. The epitome of his suffering will be in three weeks. This is Injustice.
“You are aware that Diana and Clemensia would not mind you being part of our shenanigans, right? Surely they are tolerable compared to Coriolanus, even though he is tolerable to me.” Celes specifies while taking a chocolate truffle. Seraph doesn’t share the sentiment about his other cousins compared to Coriolanus.
Diana, first daughter of Ephraim and Volumnia, is not the required norm for an average female college student. No, Diana is a femme fatale and a woman who is a fluid combination of compassion and ferocity. She’s a Beacon Hills Alumni from the class of 2007, and like Seraph, she was the enigmatic queen of the school. Hence why sometimes, Seraph is compared to Diana in some of his interactions. She is not as enigmatic as she used to be thanks to experiencing college at UCLA as well as traveling abroad and only comes to see her extended family on holidays and breaks, testing her patience is a grave mistake as she will deliver cold and savage vocabulary that can break someone’s ego and spirit. She’s done it before, so it’s no surprise if she retained that side of her.
Clemensia, in contrast to her older sister, is the true definition of privileged and being a “Diva”. She is treated like a princess, often goes on shopping sprees like changing undergarments, an enormous jet-setter as she travels to luxurious destinations all over the world. Her most recent picture in the Maldives already states her wealth without her explaining it verbally. While Diana likes her used Volkswagen Beetle, and Coriolanus drives a 1967 pick-up truck he bought from an auction, Clemensia is obsessed with driving cars like Mercedes Benz, Aston Martins, and Audis. She even will wear the trendiest clothes that are currently advertised now. Yet despite all of this, Clemensia contains an empathetic and warm heart, and she isn’t hubristic of her surroundings. She keeps her supernatural status a safeguarded secret. Clemensia, unlike her older siblings, attended Devenford Prep. Therefore she is attuned to the prestige and opulence settings, plus her lavish outfits and accessories.
“Your offer raises the expectation of reciprocity. Could you please outline any specific actions or terms you have in mind?” Seraph aims a sarcastic smile at his sister while he takes a portion of lasagna. Celes sends him her own sarcastic smile.
“Of course, since payment is always required with favors. Lend me your art room for the next year and I will humbly allow you to hang out with me, Diana, and Clemensia.” Celes requests. Seraph nearly chokes on his food before staring at his sister as if she had gained 3 heads.
“You have got to be kidding me, sister. For me to procure you my private art room full of authentic art pieces and my own work is a risky deal. Not to mention your mischievous nature to have stuff missing around the estate.”
Celes glances at her brother baffled. “What makes you think I would misplace your artwork for my own art? I have never done that before.”
“Okay then, how about the time you accidentally dropped my phone in the sewers when you and I were ages in early adolescence?” Seraph questions with narrowed eyes.
“That was one time-”
“Or the time you cleaned out the attic and threw away my science project that was due in 2 days, which took a week to complete, and almost cost me my grade in middle school?”
“Okay that was an accident. I did not mean-”
“OR, during the occurrence when you had crashed mom’s car last year to test drive it because you did not follow traffic law regulations and crashed into one of the Deputy’s police cruisers and mom had to pay a hefty fine for your negligence?” Seraph asks each of the turbulent times of occurrence of his sister causing small hazardous risks.
“OKAY I GET IT!!! But this time, I will not do anything to harm or destroy your pieces in the process I obtain your art room for the next 3 months.” Celes huffs out, no longer wanting the pasta but interested in taking the cannolis. The older relatives of Azrael, Elizabeth, and Concordia have already grown used to these antics amongst Seraph and Celes so they pay no mind to it so long as it doesn’t involve cruel or hurtful phrases.
“You state that now, but I can hear your heartbeat and read your mind, and you are having anxious thoughts while your heart has a couple of upticks here and there based on your words of accord. So I am not sure if I can trust you.” Seraph berates with a smirk. Celes' eyes narrow in slight annoyance.
“Fine, is there anything I can do to appease you to let me use your art room so that I can allow you in our social party?”
“Of course, since payment is always required with favors.” Seraph glances at her smirking, mocking the very same phrase she presented him with earlier.
“Oh for the love of God-”
“Fine,” Celes relents as she cuts off her father’s exasperation. “I will offer you a two way plane ticket I received from an auction to Austria, plus with that offer is a 7 day stay in Vienna at the exclusive Hotel Das Alpen at their spacious and opulent Penthouse suite.”
Seraph hums in delight and confusion. While he admires the idea his sister could achieve such lavish offers and the ability to travel to Austria sounds extraordinary, but for his pleasure, he will bask in his sister’s defeat…
“Sounds rather extravagant. An offer that sounds so spectacular, immaculate, and nigh impossible to not accept…” He trails off while thumbing his fingers on the dark brown mahogany dining table. “However-”
“Oh do not start that. We’ve been in far too many grandiose events and places to not even care about how something is luxurious and fantastic to cast aside.” Celes cuts him off with a glare. But Seraph doesn’t stop there.
“It doesn’t sound grandiose to me. Not like the Beacon Hills Gala our family hosted back in 2010, or the Hofburg Silvesterball in Austria, in addition to the Vienna Opera Ball, or even the Bal De La Rose of Monaco within the world’s creme de la creme.” Seraph lists out cooly while Celes’ patience and desperate attempts to get her brother to accept the offer are growing thin.
“Please, can you accept this offer so I can kindly use your art room for a year?” Celes asks kindly. Bingo, dear sister.
“Yes, I humbly accept.” Seraph replies without hesitation, dumbfounding his sister. But as she sees her brother’s grin of gratification, she gives him a piercing death stare.
“Oh you swine-!”
“For Heaven's sake,” Concordia interrupts with her hands clasped in front of her face, exhaling a stressful puff, which is ironic given their grandmother’s and their own immunity to stress thanks to their supernatural biology. “Let’s redirect our focus back to our dinner if the two of you do not mind. Me, Arnold and Milene did not prepare this meal for it to be sitting here like decorum.”
“Certainly grandmother.” Seraph gleefully says while Celes offers a wordless grunt of acceptance. But he then eyes his sister with feigning innocence. “It has been a miraculous delight conducting business with you, my esteemed sister.”
“You little shit…" Celes telepathically swears vehemently to Seraph, adding more to the enigmatic teen’s smug grin. As the family continue to eat dinner peacefully, the Alpha proceeds to do it’s vengeful quest and deadly hunting against those who deserve it in the thief of the night through the howling winds of Beacon Hills.

The first few periods of class were anything but fascinating. The whole mountain lion incident that happened on the night of parent teacher conferences, which happened 4 days ago, was swept under the rug as if it was of no importance. Typical for humans to even assess such situations.
Now it is lunchtime and he enters the cafeteria with his tupperware of rotisserie chicken, quinoa, cauliflower, and cornbread. He was even able to get the last slice of tiramisu cake this morning, to Celes’ anger as she “claimed” the last slice of dessert. As usual, he will conduct his normal routine of being observant around him and listening to anything that could pique his interest. This town of Beacon Hills, minus the supernatural assessments it produces, is profoundly lackluster. So using his supernatural hearing, he tries to find anything mildly interesting while he enjoys his meal.
Oh, how he shouldn't have done that if he would have realized it sooner.
“The who of what?" A familiar and standoffish voice snaps.
“The Beast of Gevaudan,” Allison’s reply made Seraph raise his eyebrows at the legendary mention of the French monster that murdered 100 plus people in South France that Allison’s ancestors, the Argents, or more specifically, Marie Jeanne-Valet hunted and eradicated. Henceforth the progressive tradition of having Argent women become the leaders of the influential family since the mid 18th century. He continues to listen to the conversation.
“A quadrupedal wolf-like monster prowling the Auvergne in South Dordogne areas of France from the year 1764 to 1766. Le Béte killed over 100 people becoming so infamous that the King Louis XV sent one of his best hunters to try and kill it.” He hears Allison explain from her reading of her family’s historical biography.
“Boring.” Seraph rolls his eyes at Lydia’s faux-ignorant nonchalance. He knew the strawberry-blonde queen bee is jumping up and down like a jackrabbit internally at such inquisitive information.
“The church declared it a messenger of Satan. Cryptozoologists believe it was a hoofed creature called a Mesonychid.” Mesonychids are long extinct. The ancestors of wolves, dogs, and other types of canine creatures. While I would not be fazed if there were those who could shapeshift into one, it would be a odd phenomenon, similar to how werewtiches exist-
Seraph’s thoughts ended there when he began to feel an odd tingling sensation in his brain. An odd and rambunctious one, like the feeling is disorienting him and crafting his vision into such obnoxious shapes and lines. Why is there a tinge of water-colored blue in his vision-
He didn’t have time to process until his vision suddenly went black.
He felt odd and fluid, as if he were in a dreamscape. He opened his eyes and the sight before him was a perplexing conundrum. Through his lens, his vision shifted to an entirely different locale. Instead of the cafeteria he is supposed to be in where the rest of the students are, he is outside on a field. No, it’s his school’s lacrosse field. His eyes travel from left to right at the transparent scenery in front of him despite the nighttime sky. The field isn’t empty either. He heard chants, cheers, yells which means that there is a game going on while the Spectators observe. Seraph, through his dreamscape vision that is a myriad of pandemonium, he watches his school, Beacon Hills High going up against…Devenford Prep. Wait, pardon? Is this a vision? A premonition?
If so, this is a premonition he has never foreseen. Why is it showing him something that has to do with a lacrosse game? He thought that Scott was already gaining better control of his werewolf abilities and he seemingly found his anchor, which is Allison. Something isn’t- wait, that's Scott?
Scott, who appears to have shorter hair and a year or two older than the Scott he sees everyday look apprehensive, as if he is either expecting everything to collapse, or if something goes according to plan. It seems that’s not the only perplexing issue in this very bewildering premonition of his. Beside him, is Stiles who appears a year or two older as Scott is compared to the one Seraph sees everyday, which is weirder now that his hair grew from the caesar cut he had. Yet out in the field it is semi-chaotic. Aside from grabbing the attention of a much older Scott and Stiles, Seraph observes as best as he could, with confusion when he sees a female lacrosse player on Beacon Hills High team knock down a Devenford Prep player having the number 28 with suspiciously supernatural strength. Using his heightened eyesight, he is able to notice a fiery shield surrounding the girl, in the form of a fox.
A Kitsune…that is perplexing. But he doesn't have time to investigate this matter when the girl is removed from the game and she flings her helmet off in fury, heading inside the school. A younger girl follows after her with short blond hair and dark blueish eyes. The game continues at a rapid pace, Beacon Hills losing to Devenford Prep 1-5. But then he sees Scott instantly run to the school in a frenzy while leaving Stiles, the younger lacrosse player with the number 9 on his jersey and other lacrosse players to the mercy of the snobbish prep school players. Seraph crosses his arms, what is the point of this premonition? To help Beacon Hills High win a lacrosse game against Devenford Prep in the future? To see a Kitsune he has never seen before lose control of her powers on the field? What is the purpose of this puzzle he is having such difficulty figuring out?
Speak of the Devil and he shall come.
After watching the somewhat boring game that is still befuddling the enigmatic, something grim and malevolent entered his premonition. The shifting of the wind and a terrifying aura spooks him, and he glances just in time to see a quadrupedal monster with black fur and really icy blue eyes that were pupiless wreaking havoc on a school bus. Seraph’s eyes widened in pure shock. The sounds of cry and horror echo the field as the Beast Of Gevaudan exposes itself to the crowd of humans and supernaturals alike. But it's the devilish appearance that causes mass hysteria amongst the student body and an unofficial evacuation of teenagers running away from the bleachers and into the school, fluidly passing him.
This isn't a premonition for a lacrosse game to beat. This is a premonition to warn him of the near future. The near future where the Beast will resurrect and rise up again to attack Beacon Hills. A feat that is impossible unless it is through sorcery, spiritual possession, unholy witchcraft, or exorcism. Seraph watches with bated breath as the Beast climbs on top of the dismantled school bus, as students run for their lives, lacrosse sticks, helmets, snacks, water bottles, and even lip glosses dropping to the concrete ground.
His eyes travel to the field through the mass of fearful teenagers, and he gazes as the very same teenager with their lacrosse gear on and the number 9 on them, charges across the lacrosse field towards the Beast of Gevaudan, with his golden beta eyes and claws as he ignores the voice and urge of Stiles, which for some eerie reason, Seraph couldn't quite hear as Stiles voice came out like being underwater. Yet oddly enough he can hear the screams and shouts of students clearly.
His heart pounds against his chest rapidly as he sees the young teenager leap upwards with golden beta eyes and claws, attacking the Beast. Suddenly Seraph’s vision goes black.
He wakes up in a frenzy when he sees he is now located in the dark and chaotic hallways of Beacon Hills High, his eye vision still translucent and blueish. He tried shaking his head to get out of this disturbing premonition but it wouldn't let him, it was forcing him to see the diabolical hysteria that the Beast is causing. Just what on Earth, or who on Earth resurrected Le Béte in the future? What were they trying to prove?
The sound of a vicious roar echoes through the dreamscape hallway and to his surprise, Scott is propelled through a wall with the demonic beast hot on his trail. Seraph runs to the site where they are fighting only to see Scott save a few innocent human classmates before being dragged by the Beast again and fling out in the hallway. He runs through the panicked bodies to investigate while the auras of fear and fright sicken him albeit not feeling any physical movement nor can they see him. Scott and the Beast move elsewhere as he can see his classmates droplets of blood on the white tiled floor implying he is taking violent hits.
This gets Seraph to sprint after the Beast even though the premonition only allows him to see the events laid before him to foresee. He is trying to catch up to the vicious confrontation and is feeling something he usually never felt before and this was only his premonition. He was feeling concern, and it was concern for the future that is intertwining with this darkness. The moment he opens the double set doors is when his premonition fades to black.
Now Seraph finds himself in the transparent hue of the school's library. Despite the intense and dire subsequent changes of each premonition and his heart racing against his chest at a high paced event such as this, he observes anticipatively, seeing familiar faces of students escape the dilapidated library or hide behind bookshelves while it is being attacked. He sees a boy, human with chestnut-brown hair and blue eyes, skittishly hiding behind a bookshelf with a few other students. Seraph couldn't believe what he was foreseeing in his vision, the Beast of Gevaudan is causing destruction and chaos in its wake while exposing the supernatural to the human population. Le Béte lands behind his transparent form and roars, just as a louder roar pierces from Scott. Seraph glances at the teen but a flabbergasted expression is aimed at the older Scott, who instead of golden eyes belonging to a beta, it's blood red eyes that belong to an alpha while Scott's fangs and claws bare threateningly at the Beast. Scott’s roar was so deafening that it made Seraph cover his ears and he was unable to handle the pressure as his vision began to show black dots before fully cloaking them. Along with the sounds of claws clashing and bodies slamming against shelves and tables.
Seraph…
Seraph…
"SERAPH!!!"
The very familiar voice snaps him out of that painful and disturbing premonition and his eyes open anxiously to see Danny staring at him worryingly while Lydia, standing up behind him, is gazing at him in pure astonishment. But he felt a warm hand on his shoulder and he glanced up to see compassionate, brown eyes and a face that was very concerned for him with fluffy brown-brown hair. It was Scott who was helping him.
"Hey are you okay? You're pale." Scott, the simple fact that Seraph secretly knows (not to Scott’s awareness) what Scott is currently going through and has bigger problems regarding his adjustment to being a werewolf. But here he is, beside him checking to see if he's okay and if he needs medical attention.
Putain! C'est embarrassant. He must have heard my racing heartbeat from that premonition. Shit!
"Are you alright? Usually you are the composed one here but to see you pale and shivering, is more unnerving than confusing." The voice of Lydia speaks. Seraph looks around and sees half the cafeteria including Allison, Stiles, and the teenager two tables down with dark skin and very short hair, is watching him in confusion. Seraph stands up, to Scott's and Danny's concern.
"Whoa- wait you were just-"
"I appreciate your concern, both of you." He tells Scott and Danny. "I will go to the bathroom to clear my head. Ciao." The enigmatic teen departs awkwardly, leaving behind many confused students. Scott just nods and shrugs simultaneously before heading back to the table with Stiles.
"Dude, what just happened? What possessed Kingfisher?" The Sheriff’s son questions Scott.
"I don't know. He didn't like he was being possessed, it felt more like he was in pain." Scott tells Stiles. "His heartbeat, his emotions, I sensed them, and he was enduring a horrible pain of some sort." Stiles hears out the whispered segment of his best friend's reply.
"He looked like he was suffering from a migraine that came from hell." The Caucasian teen muses out. "Never saw the icy enigmatic king go through something like that. That was…weird."
"Okay why is everyone calling him a 'icy enigmatic king'? Why is that a title or nickname for him? Is everyone here intimidated by him?" The werewolf asks, just very baffled by the school seeing him as that.
"Scotty, are you kidding me? Do you not know the reputation and aristocratic flair he holds in our school? He earned that nickname or whatever after ridiculing and verbally destroying the entire senior grade boys' egos when he was a freshman. Plus he holds popularity in a way and has a academic rivalry with Lydia-"
"I know the last part," Scott interjects Stiles, preventing him from going on a logorrhea of dialogue. "It's just that he didn't look too good. He looked…frightened."
Stiles eyebrows raise abruptly at Scott’s reply with Seraph being frightened.
"I don't hate him, I feel like he hates me for being a chatterbox and ruining his ''work time" for being excessively annoying or with my presence around I don't know." Stiles let's out with a sigh. "But I have to teach you to master your werewolfiness."
Their conversation to help Scott continues in hushed whispers.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Harsh footsteps clatter against the white tiles of the school, the very same ones he sees everyday that will soon be filled with students scrambling in panic and fear in the near future.
It lacks logical evidence. Why did he get such a severely critical egregious premonition? One that conveyed him the impending danger of the Beast of Gevaudan who will soon cause havoc and rampage on innocent teenagers in a high school during a large lacrosse game?
What caused the Beast's rise? On a more serious inquiry, how did Scott become an alpha? Did he…kill the Alpha that turned him into a werewolf and gained his powers? It isn't adding up. He doesn't qualify Scott to be a killer even if he is a werewolf.
Who was the young player with the number 9 uniform? The beta werewolf who attacked the Beast? The Asian girl who is a Kitsune? People in the near future? Because despite his indifference and carelessness of who others are, that doesn't mean he doesn't remember a face. His photographic memory is too keen for that-
His pestering and unquenchable thoughts were cut when he suddenly clashes into someone. But due to his supernatural strength and stability, he remains still. The sound of someone gasping slightly and a thud to the floor makes Seraph glance down to see a familiar face.
"Damn. What the hell are you made of, bricks?" Isaac Lahey asks, his voice a rough mixture of annoyance and apprehension.
"I am sorry for that." Seraph apologizes. Dread and angst coil within his abdomen. This is the second time he bumped into his ex-childhood friend. "Let me help-"
"Why? You ghost me at any chance you had in school. You're about to go back to doing that after you help me up." Isaac declares with snark, getting up on his feet. The slight bruise by his eye is visibly showing. Seraph tries to ignore it.
"I have my reasons for doing what I did."
"Yeah, reasons that you clearly didn't give me and left me unable to figure out."
"As if you could comprehend the strictly strategized reason I carefully planned out. It is none of your concern." Seraph replies coldly, his patience running thin. Isaac sends him a vehement expression.
"I-I don't understand…what did I do to…deserve your iciness? Why did you stop talking to me? Was it because you decided to cut ties because you were rich and intelligent?" Isaac probes, sounding small and anxious.
"Lahey I do not have the patience to properly assess this right now. I have important matters to attend to. " Seraph cuttingly implies. Ignoring the remorse swirling inside of him.
"You even call me by my last name instead of Isaac. You don't have the patience to do it or you don't want to because you want to feel better than everyone else?" The tall teen asks, testing his luck.
"Are you going to continue your nescient skirmish? Because I am not the one who keeps his abuse wrapped up in lies or pretends to think he isn't a victim when he is a victim." Seraph hears himself answer back before it's too late and his eyes widen slightly at how harsh he sounded. He glances up to see Isaac’s aghast and crestfallen expression plastering his roughed up face, and his eyes shining with water.
Seraph never says his brutal and honest thoughts out loud to prevent reactions like this. He usually has a well thought out response he carefully plans. But that premonition is discombobulating his brain. He did not mean to hurt isaac.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to respond like-"
"Don't bother. Now I know where we stand." Isaac hisses out between anger and sadness before shoulder checking Seraph and out of his sight. The enigmatic exhales a sigh of frustration. He didn't mean to respond to Isaac like that. It wasn't his intention to throw his abuse and pain in his face.
Damn it, since when has a harrowing premonition disrupt his train of thoughts and brain activity so severely that his cold and icy words let out in a spree of carelessness?
Has Isaac always tried to understand why he severed ties with him? Has Matt also tried understanding why or was he too focused in his recovery from trauma to ask?
Guilt clouds his mind and abdomen, Seraph stares at the floor in disappointment. That shouldn't have been said to a childhood friend he knew for 12 years. It should have ended differently instead of being cruel and callous.
Now he may have lost any chance to recover that once golden friendship he shared with Isaac.
Suddenly, the urge to continue classes felt fruitless today. He turns right and heads to the main office to have himself go home today

Ouch! I wrote the ending with angst. Sorry, not sorry. (But I am truly sorry for Isaac😢😢 Seraph you jerk.)
But what did you all notice from the chapter? The foreshadowing? The unmentioned yet familiar characters? The first ever interaction between Scott and Seraph? Or the amount of name drops and familiar names you read? Let me hear your thoughts, feedbacks and criticism?
Also, what are the Kingfishers? What is Seraph's supernatural identity?
Chapter 5 will be release the following Monday. Have fun figuring out the dilemma😈

lumax parenthood/babies headcanons (because i miss them)
four kids. first baby is planned. second baby is planned but then it ends up being fraternal twins. the last baby is a total surprise.
first child: christine. (“after the car?” “yes, after the murderous car. no, idiot. I just like the name.”) ironically she's born in the car (she comes a bit too fast and furious for them to get to the hospital in time) but max wants the name because she heard it in the stephen king book and liked it. caramel skin. dark curly hair. feisty, stubborn, rambunctious, a real spitfire. lucas jokes that she gets it from her mother, and this usually earns him a swat on the head from his wife. but christine can be sweet when she wants to be. she’s a total daddy’s girl. she likes to hand paint, and covers her room walls with loud, happy paintings full of vivid splotches. eventually she tries to skateboard, but is very impatient with her initial lack of skill, and max decides to hold off until christine is a little older. little does she know that christine's skill on a skateboard almost comes to rival hers.
second and third children: miles and louis. born at home with a midwife on a blustery fall evening. lucas gains a whole new respect for his wife as he watches her birth two babies like a goddamn warrior. miles is first, squalling and indignant. same caramel skin and dark hair, though it looks more straight like his dad's. he’s scrappy like his older sister, but fiercely loving. he and christine bicker so much that max starts imposing time limits on how long an argument is allowed to last before consequences start happening. miles loves being outside, climbing trees and getting muddy and tracking dirt all over the kitchen floor from his escapades. he wants to skateboard too, but his parents want to wait until the latest of his bumps and bruises and scrapes have healed before letting him try. since he is constantly getting new ones from climbing trees and playing games with the neighborhood kids, max and lucas have decided to shelve the subject for now. louis is born four minutes after his brother, quieter and less imposing. his skin is a bit lighter than the caramel of his brother and sister, and his hair is red. he has max's more well-hidden traits: reserved and intelligent. he's kind, too. louis loves the outdoors, like miles, but he's much more content to take his magnifying glass outside and watch the bugs crawl in the yard. he has amassed a small collection of rocks and pinecones. he and lucas have pooled their collections together. it's a fun little thing they share.
fourth (and LAST, max tells lucas pointedly) child: charlotte, though they call her lottie. born quietly and easily in the tub on a rainy spring afternoon. her skin is lighter like louis', but her hair is dark like her father's. she's sweet, shy, and affectionate. max doesn't know where she came from. unlike her sister, she's more attached to max, and max can often be seen walking around their house with lottie on her hip, lottie's chubby hand clenching a handful of her mother's long red hair. she likes clouds and watches them while her brothers play outside and her sister attempts yet again to skateboard. eventually, max tries to gauge lottie's interest in skateboarding, but she is not as gung-ho about it as her sister. max and lucas constantly wonder aloud to each other what lottie's interests will be as she gets older.
max is incredibly calm during childbirth. so measured, so focused. so much so that lucas is like "god my WIFE. LOOK AT HER." in fact he is very much lucas "that's my wife" sinclair in all situations
max is the disciplinarian more often than she would like because lucas is such a sweet daddy that it's hard for him to break out of that. she and lucas are trying harder to share the wealth on enacting discipline.
max as a mom is the gentlest lucas has ever seen her. max is determined to give her kids the love and support she never got growing up. when the kids are all still little, max will sit in her rocking chair that she sat in when christine was a baby and read them stories. and they all sit on her lap and around her, nearly swallowing her whole with the group of them.
max sometimes wonders aloud to lucas when she can read them a stephen king story ("babe, we can't read them stephen king yet." "i can read some of the non-scary stories!").
max is the breadwinner and lucas is the stay-at-home dad. but max doesn't let her job keep her from spending enough time with the kiddos. she makes every moment for them that she can.
lucas LOVES being a daddy. he's HAPPY to be the stay-at-home parent and cook and play games and read bedtime stories and generally be the most loving and doting dad these kids could ask for.
four kids later and lucas and max still go on dates, and dance, and kiss, and softly giggle like they did when they were teenagers. max always wonders aloud how lucas does that, how he makes her feel so calm, so safe, while lucas brushes her hair away from her face and kisses his favorite spot, right between her eyebrows, murmuring that she deserves to feel loved and safe, and that she can always be sure she is safe with him. max is still not always sure how to respond to that, but she's learning to accept it rather than refute it.
and how could i forget some of the other members of the party (not all because i don't know who's going to survive s5). uncle dustin and aunt suzie's house is the most fun, because uncle dustin is always showing the boys some new thing he's invented or some new piece of technology he's been using. aunt erica's house is christine's favorite place, because aunt erica takes no shit, and christine likes that about her. aunt robin dotes on the kids, particularly lottie, and often treats max and lucas' youngest to long-winded, mostly one-sided conversations of how her wife vickie is so beautiful and how their dogs keep tearing up their socks and why they feel the need to do that, it doesn't make sense, while lottie watches her talk with rapt attention and slight overwhelm.
the sinclairs always take walks as a family. christine and the boys bicker about who gets to hold lottie's hand as she takes wobbly little toddler steps. max and lucas always hold hands during their walks. always. even if it's been a rough day. the only exception is when one or two of the kids wants to ride piggyback. louis likes max to carry him on her shoulders. christine piggybacks on lucas as he cradles lottie in the crook of his arm. miles is not as readily affectionate, but he makes sure to keep a tight hold of max's jacket.
they have movie nights, where the kids rotate choosing the movie. this movie night it's louis' choice and he wants the lion king ("again?" pouts christine, and lucas interjects "you got to choose when it was your day, now it's HIS day"). christine and the boys bicker on the blanket-covered floor and lottie cuddles against her mother on the couch. when lucas emerges from the kitchen and doles out all the snacks, both he and his wife exchange a look as they know christine and miles will eat too fast and get stomachaches, louis will fall asleep during the movie, and lottie will be too busy chewing her teething ring to pay it much mind. max leans into her husband as he sits down next to her, lottie still enveloped in her arms. and he puts his arm easily around her as she drinks in the feeling of home.

Godmother Death
Tumblr media
Since it's Almost the 31st of October, I've been poking around for old Fables and fairytales that fit the season. Sure there's Halloween and spooky season which allows many people to dress up and embrace the fun. And I love that! But some spiritual and Cultural paths believe this time of the year is when the veil of the living and the dead thins, allowing for those who have passed to come and pay us a visit. Personally, I kinda like the idea of that.
So I found a Slavic folk tale written by A.H Wratislaw in 1889. It is about death taking on a Godchild. There are many things I find interesting in this story. The first and most obvious thing being that Death is not something to fear. Death is a kind and fairly pretty Woman. It goes against a lot of how death has been built up in Christian stories. Which brings me to interesting point number 2, Death and Religion seem to be separate. Which I like. Yes death seems to be Religious, but they don't claim to be part of a higher power or chain of command. They haven't been re-written to be an angel. Just....Death. And finally the third thing I found interesting was the Fact Death was not only a Woman, but a Woman with knowledge about medicine and healing. During this time period in England (Where the author is from) and many other parts of the world, Women were fighting to be allowed to be Doctors. But there was massive push back on this as anyone who has skimmed women's rights history can imagine. So I wonder if the author had an opinion about this, and tried to use old folk tales to communicate a point. Perhaps he felt women were capable of being just as good of doctors as men?
This is a slightly more awkward read. So I wanted to give a few key notes on word meanings to help people like me who were thrown off. Gossip: It means Good friend or buddy Sexton: A church care taker Taper: Candle. Like the tall, skinny kinds.
There was a man, very poor in this world’s goods, whose wife presented him with a baby boy. No one was willing to stand sponsor, because he was so very poor. The father said to himself: ‘Dear Lord, I am so poor that no one is willing to be at my service in this matter; I’ll take the baby, I’ll go, and I’ll ask the first person I meet to act as sponsor, and if I don’t meet anybody, perhaps the sexton will help me.’
He went and met Death, but didn’t know what manner of person she was; she was a handsome woman, like any other woman. He asked her to be godmother. She didn’t make any excuse, and immediately saluted him as parent of her godchild, took the baby in her arms, and carried him to church. The little lad was properly christened. When they came out of church, the child’s father took the godmother to an inn, and wanted to give her a little treat as godmother. But she said to him, ‘Gossip, leave this alone, and come with me to my abode.’
She took him with her to her apartment, which was very handsomely furnished. Afterwards she conducted him into great vaults, and through these vaults they went right into the underworld in the dark. There tapers were burning of three sizes–small, large, and middle-sized; and those which were not yet alight were very large. The godmother said to the godchild’s father: ‘Look, Gossip, here I have the duration of everybody’s life.’ The child’s father gazed thereat, found there a tiny taper close to the very ground, and asked her: ‘But, Gossip, I pray you, whose is this little taper close to the ground?’ She said to him: ‘That is yours! When any taper whatsoever burns down, I must go for that man.’
He said to her: ‘Gossip, I pray you, give me somewhat additional.’ She said to him: ‘Gossip, I cannot do that!’ Afterwards she went and lighted a large new taper for the baby boy whom they had had christened. Meanwhile, while the godmother was not looking, the child’s father took for himself a large new taper, lit it, and placed it where his tiny taper was burning down.
The godmother looked round at him and said: ‘Gossip, you ought not to have done that to me; but if you have given yourself additional lifetime, you have done so and possess it. Let us go hence, and we’ll go to your wife.’
She took a present, and went with the child’s father and the child to the mother. She arrived, and placed the boy on his mother’s bed, and asked her how she was, and whether she had any pain anywhere. The mother confided her griefs to her, and the father sent for some beer, and wanted to entertain her in his cottage, as godmother, in order to gratify her and show his gratitude. They drank and feasted together. Afterwards the godmother said to her godchild’s father: ‘Gossip, you are so poor that no one but myself would be at your service in this matter; but never mind, you shall bear me in memory! I will go to the houses of various respectable people and make them ill, and you shall physic and cure them. I will tell you all the remedies. I possess them all, and everybody will be glad to recompense you well, only observe this: When I stand at anyone’s feet, you can be of assistance to every such person; but if I stand at anybody’s head, don’t attempt to aid him.’
It came to pass. The child’s father went from patient to patient, where the god-mother caused illness, and benefited every one. All at once he became a distinguished physician. A prince was dying–nay, he had breathed his last–nevertheless, they sent for the physician. He came, he began to anoint him with salves and give him his powders, and did him good. When he had restored him to health, they paid him well, without asking how much they were indebted. Again, a count was dying. They sent for the physician again. The physician came.
Death was standing behind the bed at his head. The physician cried: ‘It’s a bad case, but we’ll have a try.’ He summoned the servants, and ordered them to turn the bed round with the patient’s feet towards Death, and began to anoint him with salves and administer powders into his mouth, and did him good. The count paid him in return as much as he could carry away, without ever asking how much he was indebted; he was only too glad that he had restored him to health. When Death met the physician, she said to him: ‘Gossip, if this occurs to you again, don’t play me that trick any more. True, you have done him good, but only for a while; I must, none the less, take him off whither he is due.’ The child’s father went on in this way for some years; he was now very old. But at last he was wearied out, and asked Death herself to take him. Death was unable to take him, because he had given himself a long additional taper; she was obliged to wait till it burned out. One day he drove to a certain patient to restore him to health, and did so.
Afterwards Death revealed herself to him, and rode with him in his carriage. She began to tickle and play with him, and tap him with a green twig under the throat; he threw himself into her lap, and went off into the last sleep. Death laid him in the carriage, and took herself off. They found the physician lying dead in his carriage, and conveyed him home. The whole town and all the villages lamented: ‘That physician is much to be regretted. What a good doctor he was! He was of great assistance; there will never be his like again!’ His son remained after him, but had not the same skill.
The son went one day into church, and his godmother met him. She asked him: ‘My dear son, how are you?’ He said to her: ‘Not all alike; so long as I have what my dad saved up for me, it is well with me, but after that the Lord God knows how it will be with me.’ His godmother said: ‘Well, my son, fear nought. I am your christening mamma; I helped your father to what he had, and will give you, too, a livelihood. You shall go to a physician as a pupil, and you shall be more skilful than he, only behave nicely.’
After this she anointed him with salve over the ears, and conducted him to a physician. The physician didn’t know what manner of lady it was, and what sort of son she brought him for instruction. The lady enjoined her son to behave nicely, and requested the physician to instruct him well, and bring him into a good position. Then she took leave of him and departed. The physician and the lad went together to gather herbs, and each herb cried out to the pupil what remedial virtue it had, and the pupil gathered it. The physician also gathered herbs, but knew not, with regard to any herb, what remedial virtue it possessed. The pupil’s herbs were beneficial in every disease. The physician said to the pupil: ‘You are cleverer than I, for I diagnose no one that comes to me; but you know herbs counter to every disease. Do you know what? Let us join partnership. I will give my doctor’s diploma up to you, and will be your assistant, and am willing to be with you till death.’
The lad was successful in doctoring and curing till his taper burned out in limbo.

So yes we went to see the new Horror movie Night Swim and its our first movie of 2024!
Now I thought it was pretty good its pretty much a classic Haunted House movie but the house isn't actually Haunted but its the in ground pool that is haunted and of course there is a reason for that which is explained in the movie.
Your basic story is the family is moving to a new town were the mom (played by Kerry Condon) will be closer to work and she is going to school to become a teacher and the Dad (played by Wyatt Russell) was a professional Baseball player but had to quit because he is developing MS. So they are looking for a new place and none of them seem right until they find this place which has an amazing in ground pool. The Doctor has told Wyatt Russell's character that swimming is good for MS and that is one of the reasons they buy the house. So they move in and get the pool ready and everything and they are living a happy life and then things start to slowly begin to happen the kids and the wife are seeing and being bothered/attacked by some type of creature? I believe this to be the physical manifestation of the Evil that lurks in the water. but the pool is having a different effect on the Dad as it is healing his MS and when that happens as he get more and more healthy the evil in the pool begins to possess him and that is when things really start to go crazy. It hits all horror bench marks for a usual Haunted House or real Haunted anything movie being you have Stage 1 where it is the build up to stuff happening usually Stage 2 is stuff actually happening Stage 3 is Discovery this is where they find out the history/backstory/lore about the Haunted whatever Stage 4 Showdown how to stop it I feel Horror movies like these can be summed up in the quote from Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm: Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and screaming. but seriously though I thought it was pretty good being that the pool was the thing that was haunted it felt interesting and different some of the filming that was done in the pool and under water was really well done and the visuals for things like I don't know what to call it "the deep?" where the evil lived with in the pool it was almost like a alternate universe with all the people it had collected was cool and reminded me of something else but I can't think of it at this moment.
Now I didn't find the movie really scary but it did have like the right amount of creepiness and should make you wonder about pools from now on lol but yeah I if you want to give it a watch I would say go for it.

I recently finished Dear Sigmund and it just made me want even m o r e for Sidney to have more screen time! Seeing the 4077th through his eyes was such a fun little change of pace, as well as seeing the way he comes to them for comfort 🥺 Regardless of whether you view it as platonic or romantic, it's so obvious he loves everyone there! And while we're on the topic of characters who deserved more: Captain Sam Pak. I know he was only in two episodes, but he was wonderful in both of them! I loved the exchange between him and Sidney in Deal Me Out, just the easy "that's my wife!" "Interesting joke there, Sam" "Thanks for seeing me, Sidney". I wish we had more Sid, I wish we had more Sam, and I also wish we had more of them together.
And thanks so much for the rec! I've only recently been getting into the fic side of things, so I haven't come across their work yet, but I'm sure it would only have been a matter of time. (Aka I have Sidney's Ao3 tag open on my phone right now) I took a quick scroll through their collections, and read a short BJ/Hawkeye/Peg piece since I had a couple spare minutes, and I think the recommendation is right up my alley! I'm really not gonna have to search for fics for the rest of the week with all that you've provided me 😅
DEAR SIGMUND MY BELOVED!!!! AAAAAAA I love that one so MUCH, I go back to it often. Brilliant work from Alan all around, writing, directing, acting, all of it. God, the way he just saw the characters is so fascinating. I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much!! God, Sidney fits into the camp so well, really just matches their pace and rhythm as easily as he sinks into the background to observe them. He does love them, you're so right. You're gonna love some of his upcoming episodes, I think. War of Nerves in S6 is a lot, but it's wonderful.
Also Sam is the fucking love of my life. Canon also wrote a really interesting Hawkeye/Sam chapter for a multiauthor collab fic called The Famous 4077th Dog Tag Party, which I definitely recommend if you enjoy Sam to that degree, because my goodness, he's such a fucking delight as a POV character in it!! But even beyond that, Sam and Sidney give me such old married couple vibes, like, they're usually surrounded by all these 20- and 30-somethings, so I feel like they found each other as men in their mid-40s and were just like oh, thank GOD, and things went from there. I am yet again exposing myself as a shipper to the core, oops.
I am usually very shy about self-reccing fics, but since you've mentioned you loved Dear Sigmund and also a fondness for Sam and Sidney, I'm gonna give you a couple, if that's all right:
—I'd Give Up Forever to Touch You: This is BJ/Sidney-centric with BJ/Hawkeye developing in the background of the narrative, but I offer it specifically because "Dear Sigmund" plays a large role in how BJ and Sidney interact in it. It's a forced proximity romance that also selfishly lets me play on a favorite trope of mine—only one bed—and I loved writing it so much that I have so many thoughts about a potential sequel that might let me lean into more of those polyam feelings
—To Be Kissed Upon the Eyes: This is a Sam/Hawkeye/Sidney fic with an established Sam/Sidney relationship. I wrote it because, yes, I really love their dynamic even if we only get a single episode of it, but also because I wanted to dig into how I view my iteration of Hawkeye's complicated relationship with sex. Getting the excuse to make Hawk the center of very affectionate, fond attention and give him a little bit of healing was just exquisite for me to write
Again, no pressure to read either of those!! But you might enjoy them :) I hope you enjoy your continued watchthrough too!! I feel like I've been seeing a lot of people diving in for the first time recently

ships huh? hmmmmm. I mean I suppose I can put forth SaiIno at least, that seems easy. and I will also suggest any Hinata ship of your choice cuz I don't actually know if you like any. and then also, LeeSaku, IF you feel up to it.
SaiIno:
He called her beautiful right upon seeing her, now you would say "oh he was just saying that to not anger her", but I say, he could have said" nice" or friendly" or "you look good." but NO, he said beautiful because he meant it
Ino actually was interested in sai right away, she didn't think his beaviour was weird, she didn't think his skin was weird, she just accepted and liked him. hell yea
Of course, we have her saving him from her own mind and then he asked her out because likeeeeeee yeah? I would ask her out too good for sai
I love love love the scen in the Sakura novel when he opens the door to Ino and is only in a towel and doesnt understand why she is embarrassed by that. God i love them.
They are the best parents in their respective age group. They deeply love and support inojin which is so cute and they love each other. I cant believe we got a scene with Sai lying in Ino's lap like we are so blessed.
Sai deserves love. Ino deserves support post war. They can deal with it together, be there for each other. Sai can learn a lot about expression from her, Ino can help him on his way to becoming more like the self he wants to be, not the one he was told to be.
Ok I know i had better reasons for the last reply but UH it just came out of me they are so cute.
I would do LeeHIna since I love it so much but you asked for LeeSaku so for now (also I ship every age appropriate hinata ship as long as she is happy im happy)
NaruHina
I just adore the dynamic of sunshine and shy person. Like, she is so drawn back and quiet, but he just speaks up for her instead and is sort of like "look my wife" because he doesn't mind? peak
He saw her when nobody saw her. A thing that always hurts me with hinata is that she'S so overlooked, even by her own family, but naruto never did that, not a single moment.
She see's him too. Long before others and the village itself. She admires his kindness from their first meeting
I would call it childhood friends to lovers but more like, childhood crush to oh my god I cant believe the shy girl gets the main character???
I will die mad that in the Boruto arc in which Naruto gets kidnapped we didnt get to see Hinata fight and defend him and almost die?????We only hear about it?!?! Becuase??!?! either way, that!
Hinata deserves to be happy, she deserves someone to lift her up and tell her how great she is, how worth she is how loved she is
Naruto deserves someone who fully loves him and knows him well and supports him always, even if that can get complicated.
LeeSaku
Lee is a fucking badass that can punch your face in
Sakure is a fucking badass that can punch your face in even harder
No seriously, they'd be a powercouple, and a pair you'd not like to meet in the dark if you are a bad guy
Apart from that, lee is a good guy, he is an absolutely down to his heart good person. After all the shit Sakura went through, she deserves a good and kind hearted guy
He also defended her several times and yes he did ask her out and profess his love, but he never like called her feelings for Sasuke into question? Thats very considerate of him, because his first priority is her
Sakura needed healing and love after being almost murdered by the guy she harboured so many feelings for and Lee would absolutely provide that. And not in a "oh this girl is very vunerable right now gotta take advantage" but in a "this is the girl i love and the girl i cherish and I will take care of her"
They'd be.. super cute tbh asdfklas
Kind of like Naruhina in the childhood crush to Oh my god yes it worked out yes
Lee would be an insane Sakura fanboy, Sakura would tell lee how beautiful and wonderful he is every day she wouldnt doubt himself anymore
phew, long reply

Wow, thanks for the fast reply! Yes I'd love to dive deeper into each sibling's life, I hope I'm not alone in that regard! And don't worry, I'm not disappointed at all, your ocs your story, I'm glad with whatever you share. Speaking of, may we know a bit about their parents as well? Maybe with a family portraIt of them together when they were a bit younger? I LOVE aristocratic family portraits, especially fictional ones and your artsyle is really in my alley if that makes sense. Much appreciated
And now for my designated extremely slow reply LMAO thank you for your interest and understanding, again I can't say this enough but it means EVERYTHING ;-;
And yes, you may certainly know about the Darkest mama and papa :> let's lie in this can of worms, baby
Tumblr media
Ok so. Usually I wouldn't go this hard on artwork for an ask bc I have SO MUCH WORK TO DO ACGHH but I've always wanted to do a family portrait of these guys anyways so here was a wonderful opportunity (thank you haha) SO. Mama and papa Darkest, Aadhya and Abraham.
They were an arranged marriage, Aadhya being chosen by the ancestor for his son, Abe, (totally not because he wanted Aadhya for himself or anything, and was a total creepazoid about designing her children, no, of course not) who at the time was a very high ranking Cultist Gladiator. They genuinely fell in love over time, but in an attempt not to scare her away and lose her, Abe kept the whole Darkest cult thing a secret, sucking her into a terrible life and being one of his greatest regrets forever.
Shortly before the birth of their first son, Abe couldn't hold back the secret anymore and informed Aadhya of his and his father's true affiliations. She was rightfully mortified at the betrayal and the knowledge that her soon to be child was stolen from her, and fell into a deep depression, barely speaking or eating, that lasted through all of her children's births, save Robin, who she favoured due to being the only one not designed by the Ancestor. (Stoking the flame of jealousy from Howard, who loved his mother very very much.)
And through the birth of every child, those many many years, Abe neglected his family due to plotting revenge against his father for what he did to them. Eventually, when Robin was about 15, he and his siblings were sent away at the order of their father to a remote cliff side house in an attempt to protect them in case his plot of vengeance went awry (spoiler: it went awry). He confronted his father, and for his efforts, got himself transformed into a Templar Warlord and cast into the bowels of the Darkest manor. With just Aadhya left, the Ancestor attempted to sway her to the cult with promises of new worlds, and new chances. She relented, desperate for any peace of mind and respite from her burden. But her lack of passion or willingness or even ability to return his affections angered the Ancestor, so he punished her by making her an anonymous acolyte doomed to worship and live alone. Sorry, Tardif accidentally kills her in the Weald OOP-
All this while Robin suffers alone at the cliff house, transformed by his siblings into what is essentially a mini Darkest Dungeon, catacombs and cultists and everything. That is, however, where he starts noticing weird things about himself (not puberty- ok maybe eldritch puberty) like wounds healing up quick, tentacle powers, really really realistic dreams of people he doesn't recognize, and a strange pull towards his old home at the Hamlet that he knows isn't homesickness. Digging through his brother Phillip's books proves a fruitful endeavour when Robin comes across a ritual to commune with an ancient, evil god. And Robin wants answers.
ANYWAYS.... that was mostly about Abe and Aadhya lmao, who are explorations on conflicting parenting. They each adore their family, but have made irredeemable mistakes in the form of neglect and favouritism. And also keeping huge cult secrets from your wife. That was really fun to type up, and thank you again for sending me asks, it really keeps me going!!!

IkeGen: "Sweet newlywed life" Event - Akihito/Sutokuin
Chapter 2
Everything below belongs to Cybird
Translation not correct entirely
Spoiler warning!!!
Yoshino: Really, you arrived alone
Akihito: Ahh. It’s all thanks to Yasuchika and the others making arrangements
With Yasuchika and Ibuki arrangements ----
The two of us came to a town a little far from Kyoto by an oxcart
Yoshino: By the way, why did you get off the oxcart outside the town?
Akihito: It’s not like going around town saying you’re someone of a certain social status if you drive into town
Looking down at me walking next to him, Akihito-sama relaxed his eyes
Akihito: It’s a trip with my lovely wife, so I don’t want to attract any unnecessary attention
(w…wife…)
I was still not used to being called that, and I didn’t know how to respond though I was happy. Then I noticed the gazes of the people who passed by Akihito-sama
Yoshino: …Ah, I see
It seemed that Akihito-sama’s beauty was enough to attract people’s attention even if he wasn't on an oxcart
Akihito: What’s wrong?
I gently brought my face closer to the ear of a beautiful person who looked at me curiously
Yoshino: You stand out, Akihito-sama
(You can’t hide the exuding nobility…!)
Akihito: Really? I’m in trouble
Lightly parrying the eyes of interest and desire of the people who came and went, Akihito-sama gracefully tilted his head. His gestures were perfect like a picture scroll, and while I was fascinated by them, I felt a little uneasiness stabbing in my chest
(I wonder if I, who stands next to him as his wife, is a good match for this person)
Akihito: Well then… Let’s go ahead with the young master of a kimono shop somewhere with a long history and his new wife
Yoshino: Eh
Akihito: If you don’t like it, change the settings? As long as I can act as your husband, I don’t mind any role
I don’t know how serious Akihito-sama is when he said that with a serious face
Yoshino: No, let’s go with that setting!
Akihito: Then it’s decided
Seeing Akihito-sama having fun makes my heart feel a little lighter
(As long as I can act as your husband, I don’t mind any role… huh?)
The sweet words that were told to me lightly made my heart fluttered
Akihito: That’s right, how about calling me Akihito-san instead of Akihito-sama during this trip?
Yoshino: Like when you and I first met… right?
What I was asked was unexpected
Yoshino: Uh…
(It’s kind of embarrassing to change the name again)
Akihito-sama gently lifted my hesitant hand
Akihito: Please, Yoshino
(um…)
I loved the light touches that were dropped on my fingertips, and I really wanted to respond to this person
Yoshino: ….Akihito-san
Akihito: Yeah. It’s a nostalgic name
(What a happy face)
His smile was directed at me, and my heart dropped sweetly. After that, while we were holding hands and walking around town…
Yoshino: Akihito-san
Akihito: Hmm, what is it?
Every time I called that name, my beloved gave me a big smile
Yoshino: Look, there’s a huge crowd… is there something going on?
Akihito: It looks like a troupe of travelling performers are performing their art. Would you like to go?
Yoshino: Yes. Let’s go, Akihito-san
Akihito: ….
(I just called your name… but)
When you spend your time surrounded by a happy feeling, it will pass in a blink of an eye.
---------------------
The bustling town was wrapped in a faint nostalgia at the end of the day…
Yoshino: There are fewer people in the street
Akihito: Lonely?
Yoshino: No, not at all
Akihito: Me too
In a town where no one knew us, we felt the only warmth of our love
(Both mind and body seemed to be healed just by this)
When I looked up at Akihito-sama with a satisfied feeling, he gave me a gentle look
Akihito: You have a very soft expression… I haven’t seen your face like that in a long time
Yoshino: Eh?
My own reflection in the light blue eyes caught my eye and I suddenly realized
(.…Maybe I was pushing myself too hard?)
I’ve never hated studying to become a person who can match Akihito-sama
I realized now that I have been putting too much into it without realizing it
(Akihito-sama noticed that)
Akihito: ….
The great affection that was directed at me made me feel warm
Yoshino: Akihito-sama…
Akihito: Are you done with “Akihito-san”?
He laughed, and the usual Akihito-sama made my shoulders relax a little again
Yoshino: Please don’t tease me
Akihito: It’s no good? Too bad
Akihito-sama, who doesn’t look regrettable at all, is adorable
(It was new and exciting to call him "san", but after all, the familiar way of calling him calmed me down)
(... I was next to this person as much as I thought)
Akihito: Yoshino?
Yoshino: A….
When my name was called, I noticed that the corners of my eyes were gradually getting hot
(Maybe I’ve been a little tired lately to think I’m about to cry over something like this)
I was embarrassed to be seen crying, so I turned my back to Akihito-sama to hide my face
Yoshino: Akihito-sama. Look, the beautiful sunset…
When I looked up at the sky, trying to hide my eyes
(That…?)
My vision shook
Akihito: Yoshino!
Akihito-sama, with an unusually tense expression, stretched out his hand to----

Wow a whole Avatar AU came to my mind while I was freaking falling alseep, like usual xD
Takes place in 100 years old as in canon. Basically goes the same.
Except the Ozai/Iroh is BI and he is actually not very enthusiastic about continuing the war. His wife died while giving birth, so he has only his little son, King, the one and only prince and heir. But Belos, trusted advicer and non-bender, assasinated him to get the throne. Under premise of ‘I’ll just sit here and lead our nation, you know me, I am cool. We are still searching for little prince!’ He is not, he meant to kill him too, but he manages to escape. Well he is a toddler, but there comes Eda! She was a general, but felt how everything is sus and when this shit happened, she took a kid and bolted. Sadly she couldn’t explain it to Lilith so now she thinks Eda is a traitor(who was always better at everything despite being youngest and not as interested) and tries to capture her herself so she won’t get heavy punishement. Eda is worried Lily is too loyal to Belos and will rat the kid out. Caleb tried to stop assasination(non-bender) with his wife, but they were killed by Belos who then proceeds to grieve for the same thing(how dare he betray me like that). Belos is left with a nephew who he is... not the nicest to, canon basically. Hunter is non-bender but is great at fighting with weapon and close fighting.
And with the whole Avatar shtick and lost prince, he, Lily and Kiki(the only one who knows what’s up) are on their search.
Collector is the Avatar. Of course he is. He is very talented, learns air bending with ease, despite not being very air nomad like xD Sure he likes jokes, but jeez kid stop making air bending so scary xD He has a mentor, basically that other titan, who is strict but caring. When Collector was revealed to be the Avatar at age of 10(cause of course you make 10 years old fight), he threw a tantrum and ran away and got the same fate as Aang.
He was found in Southern Tribe. By chief’s son, prodigy waterbender, Gus and his best friend non bender Luz. Camila plays the role of Gran-Gran, and let’s them go on their journey(except not everything goes the same and she doesn’t know the kid is freaking avatar, Luz just helps to get the lost kid home jhsg xD). Gus’s dad, Perry, isn’t the most fighting type, but he is smart and Gus looks up to him, despite not really wanting to take over leading the village. His mom died Katara’s mom death. Luz’s dad died in the same fight protecting the village.(wonder if i should make Vee Luz’s lost twin sister jsh xD)
In Northern Tribe the royal family are the Blights. Technically Alador is the leader, but Odalia basically manipulates him to do what she thinks is the best. She wants Amity to be perfect little princess, learn healing and get married. Amity wants to fight. She trains with Emira and Edric, who prefer to use their water bending to pull sick tricks xD (but Emira still learns a bit of healing with her ‘friend’ Viney).
In Earth Kingdom Terra(earthbender of course) is both the ‘King’ and that shady secretary. Keeps her ‘garden’ oblivious to the outside world, all pretty and untouched. She leads Dai Lis. Raine, earth bender, is a teacher in the university and learns about the lies and wants to reveal the truth to people. Carefully. Bump is a teacher in a school and wants to oppose Terra too.
Willow is an earth bender but a late bloomer and was bullied for it, cause everyone in her family are always earthbenders. I didn’t get to think too much on her xDD
OH. I didn’t think much on Earth Kingdom, but I think a bit on Air Nomads, yes they survive a bit but eeeeeehhhh. The one temple where Aang found out the truth is the same. Collie finds bones of his mentor. The one with Guru is the same. The guru role is taken by Bat Queen and her little children. She protects the Air Nomads culture. The one with machines now are with Titan Trappers. They lost their air bending ways, and very antagonistic to outsiders. The one in Fire Nation did not in fact lose their bending, and not as antagonistic, but they are too ‘everyone for themselves’. Adrian is one of them.
I think that’s where I fell asleep xD I think I made Darius fire nation general on rebelion side, like in canon. He and Eber are fire benders.
Boscha is bully in elite fire nation school, to learn better. Skara is elite in Northern Water Tribe, a picked friend for Amity. She’ll come around too. Barcus and Jerbo are students in Earth Kingdom school. Kids are all benders.
Oh, and kids are aged-up just a bit. Collie is 10, King is 8, Gus is 13, Luz and Amity are 15, Willow is 16 and Hunter is 17.
I think that’s it xD

Anon is gonna be bitterly disappointed when they read Little Red Riding Hood and find out the wolf needs to have as much story-time as the girl for the story itself to make sense For F@ck Sake Izzy may not be the protagonist indeed but he's among the Main Antagonists, one NEED to make the story also about him for it to advance
HAHAHA. Aren't they just?
But also, there is a Big Difference between a Villain and an Antagonist! Not all stories have a Villain, but most stories have an Antagonist.
Villains are usually evil, they want to hurt everyone, they want to destroy what's being built. Unless they're undercover, they tend to not be a part of the main group. Closer to a villain in OFMD would be the Badmintons, but even they are not really villains.
Antagonists are far different. They promote and create conflict by being in opposition to the protagonist (in this case: Stede. What Stede wants and what Izzy wants are, currently, diametrically opposed) they cannot both get what they want and that is what drives the story forwards.
Izzy has to duel Stede for Stede to win and for Izzy to be cast out so Izzy can then work with the English and Spanish Jackie to go back and 'rescue' Edward from Stede's bewitchment, which causes the Act of Grace, which causes the finale. Without Izzy, none of that would happen.
But he's not a villain. He's an antagonist. And he doesn't have to be evil to be an antagonist. He doesn't have to be bad or have Edward's worst interests in his heart or want to watch the world burn. All he has to do is oppose what Stede wants, and he does.
(Even better is the fact that half the time he doesn't actually oppose what Ed wants, but that's a different discussion)
Antagonists are vital to the plot of any story. Sometimes antagonists aren't even people, they're emotions or effects of change within the narrative.
A list of other antagonists in OFMD off the top of my head:
The entire crew except for Buttons in 1x01 because of the mutiny
Stede's anxiety
Spanish Jackie
Nigel and Chauncey Badminton
Mary Bonnet
The English (derogatory)
King George lmao
Calico Jack
Stede's issues
Ed's issues
In the treasure hunt episode: Lucius when he yells at Ed, briefly
But also Ed in that episode. He's positioned for a good chunk of it as Stede's antagonist
Nana? Oluwande's antagonist. Her desires (Jim getting revenge) are opposed to Oluwande's (Jim with him).
there are more for sure, but this is just my impressions of it.
One of my favorite shows of all times is a Canadian Syfy show called Killjoys. Killjoys introduced a lot of antagonists over the five seasons, but the show itself (much like, in my opinion, OFMD) was, at its core (and this was confirmed to me by the writer), about trauma, processing trauma, and coming out of trauma the other side.
Thusly, there was not one single antagonist in that show-- Okay, one, but he didn't really matter, he was just kind of there so I'm disregarding him right now-- that wasn't, by the end of it, either redeemed or given a chance at redemption.
The abusive father figure? Given a second chance, redeemed, saved the protagonist multiple times, and returned (healed, safe, happy) to his wife.
The 3-season long villain, big bad, everyone is scared of her, she killed my favorite character lmao and likes to torture people for funzies? Yeah, her too. She's redeemed at the end, happy, safe, healing. And I love her.
Tumblr media
Antagonists don't have to die or disappear or be written out. Redemption is a wonderful narrative, and sometimes they don't even need redemption, they just need someone to offer out a hand for them to take.
Ah yes, another of my favorite shows springs to mind...
