throwing my own ill-equipped hat in the ring on this whole Watcher situation just to get my thoughts out as someone who's followed them from their Unsolved days and was a casual Watcher viewer.

Let me start off by saying I don't think any of the folks involved in this are inherently bad people. I don't even particularly doubt that they're struggling to maintain their business practices of choice (i.e. they're wanting to (and frequently do) produce extremely high-quality/highly-edited content on a TV/YouTube budget, which is not sustainable). I think that they just made an objectively, incredibly stupid business decision as a result of possible mismanagement of funds and/or a desire to speed towards their goals faster and they severely miscalculated how many people would be willing to fall in line.

(As of the time I'm posting this) It's still very early Monday morning in their neck of the woods, so I'm incredibly curious as to what - if any - response they'll give today. Part of me thinks if they do make a statement, it will likely involve placing at least some blame for most of the anger on fans' "parasocial relationships", which on one hand, I understand. But on the other hand, they built their entire brand around those relationships. They pushed (or at least hardcore leaned into) the 'everyman/bro/friend' narrative. I don't think they get to be surprised that the resulting parasocial relationships are strong enough to elicit this kind of upset.

Regardless of the true reasons behind the decision, why it happened, etc., the facts remain that it went over like a lead balloon. I don't know how one would even begin to mitigate this, especially now, almost a full 3 days into the crisis when people have had plenty of time to talk and speculate. As others have said, even a simple "We hear you, please allow us this weekend to work on a proper response" statement would have been welcome. But there was nothing. I couldn't even begin to speculate as to what Watcher's future is after this, if there even IS a future for it. I suppose we'll know more as the day wears on.

Sitting here and looking at all the different fandom bigbangs that are starting had me wondering.... if the TCF fandom would also be interested in something like that?

I think it would be fun to hold a TCF bigbang if many people are interested?
