album of the year? help i was going to say i dont think i really listened to many full albums this year but i was looking through my music and ok so many people released albums in 2022 sorry. kpop highlights were all the ATEEZ releases, both of P1Harmony's, GOT7's as well actually, i'm still very enamoured with the music from the film Qala, BUT thee album of the year is undoubtedly Stromae's Multitude like nobody else can match her

I LOVE Sunset Overdrive.

So, for those of you that don't know, Sunset Overdrive was a game that was released in 2014 for the Xbox, and eventually made it's way to the PC via Steam. Back in late November of 2020, I happened to come across this game while looking for games like Spider-Man PS4 and inFamous, and this one seemed to by right up my alley, and BOY WAS I RIGHT!

The game drops you right into the middle of the action first thing, with you getting off of a burning train in the middle of the fucking apocalypse. It quickly teaches you the basics of movement, which are bouncing and grinding, and boy howdy, you better get good at that, because you're not gonna survive the game if you don't. Soon after you make it through the movement tutorial get your very first weapon.

Get it? Now this isn't a throw away weapon for when you get something better, none of the weapons are. In Sunset Overdrive, each weapon useful and fun as hell. The Flaming Compensator obviously sets enemies on fire, later on in the tutorial you get the High Fidelity, a gun which shoots vinyl records which bounce off of enemies, leading to some epic chains. Keep in mind that you're supposed to use these while moving around into order to dodge shit, so accuracy isn't exactly needed against the enemies in the early game, who are these enemies, well the first two types you're gonna meet are:

There's multiple variants of each faction but they both have one thing in common, they want you dead, and they're gonna swarm you until they kill you or you kill them. And let me tell you, the game makes sure that killing them is not only fun, but satisfying. All the OD explode into the orange OVERCHARGE DELIRIUM XT when you blast them apart, and there's nothing better than blowing a trash-talking scab shooter sky-high. Later on the game will throw different sub classes at you such as the Popper, a bloated OD that'll run at you and explode when it get's too close, and the Scab Rusher, a scab with a baseball bat that'll, you guessed it, rush you and smack you in the face with their choice of melee weapon. Don't worry, you got one of those too.

The melee in Sunset Overdrive serves a fair good few purposes, you're missing out if you only use it to smack a baddie if they get too close. Hitting the melee button in the air will cause you to preform a dive bomb, smashing into the ground and pretty much obliterating any lower level enemies that are underneath you, and jumping right after you hit said ground will bounce you back up into the air. With the right amps, however, melee becomes one of your best options in a fight. What are Amps you may ask?

They're only the DEFINING FEATURE OF THE GAME, while you're movin' and shootin' around, your Style Meter will gradually fill up, each of the 4 levels of the Style Meter will activate a different Amp. At level 1, your Hero Amp gets activated, these types of amps have varying effects such as a small forcefield that'll damage enemies when you dodge past them, or the ability to do more damage the lower your health gets. Gaining enough style to reach level 2 will activate your Weapon Amps! Each and every weapon in your aresnal can be fitted with a Weapon Amp when they hit level 2, and these amps can do anything from shock your enemies when you hit them to release a cloud of rage gas that causes them to attack each other! At style level 3, you get you use your Epic Amp, which mainly have area of effect attacks, such as spewing electricity out of any rail you grind on, or causing pillars of fire to spawn wherever you walk. and at style level 4, all of your amps get powered up and go BAT SHIT CRRRRRAZY! Trust me, when you hit style level 4, you're never gonna want it to end. You get more amps by either buying them at the shop or playing through the Story Missions, not gonna get into that though, no spoilers for you.

The other best part of Sunset Overdrive is the customization, the game lets you choose however you want to look, and trust me it has a LOT of options, and the best part is you don't even have to pay for any of them, well actually you have to use the in-game money, but you can just get that from killing scabs. THAT'S RIGHT BABY NO PAID FASHION YOU CAN RUN AROUND WEARING WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT. DON'T BELIVE ME? HE'RES A GUY WEARING A TOP HAT, ELF EARS, A OPEN SHIRT, A CHEST WRAP, BUCKSKIN GLOVES, JEAN SHORTS, AND FUCKING VANS.

HELL THE GAME WILL LET YOU RUN AROUND IN NOTHIN BUT A PAIR OF PANTIES IF YOU WANT TO! I'd post it, but I don't wanna anger the Staff Sniper's who can't stop robots from trying to catfish me.

At any rate, there's my pretty much spoiler free rant for why you should play Sunset Overdrive and beg Insomniac for Sunset Overdrive 2: Electric Boogaloo. Because the only thing bad about this game is that I've finished the entire thing twice now and still want MORE.

- How do i even begin to describe this episode? theres A Lot to unpack here. like. a lot

- the opening scene with everyone being RRRRRRROWDY and playing basketball in a confined space is cute but also, feels misplaced? random lmao, bizarre,

- ah! this episode!!!!! this episode that has haunted me since it’s original airing, in 2006!!!!!!!! this episode, irremovably burned into my skull, until the day that i finally die, and know peace!!!!! this Accursed fucking episode!!!!

- where do i begin, to try and word my feelings? lets begin with the cyberwoman herself: What In The Good Godded Fuck someone involved in this show, at some point, decided that this cyberman needed to be sexy. like that definitely happened, and theres nothing we can do about it. like that happened, for real. so they put this character, this half converted cyberman, in to a Metal Bikini because, yknow!!!!! why WOULDN’T the cybermen’s internal design involve some kind of protruding tittied Pussy Out look? and this was done with 100% sincerity, this was intended to be taken seriously. truly incredible. bad to look at.

- if you can suspend your belief for just a sec to get past the fact there’s a fullblown actual canon Sexified Cyberman running round with her puss out in this ep, baffling yet even further is the fact that ianto Apparently managed to smuggle not only a cyberman into the hub, but also, all that fucking equipment???? like the entire cyber conversion unit????? this is crrrrrazy!!!! The fact this stuff was in the hub alone and no one seemed to ever, at any point, have gone “hey.... whats down there?” or otherwise actually fucking looked around their entire Secret Base (which implies that Anything could have been in there and theyre too dumb to ever have known) is mindblowing but like, the sheer SCALE of the stuff thats down there!!!! its a full conversion unit!!!!!!!!!! oh my god!!!!!!

- returning to the metal bikini just one more time: the only sense i can make of this design is that if, canonically, all cybermen regardless of their original gender, are all wearing metallic bikinis under their outer casings. which would be Rad as hell actually

- i love that this episode really just goes 0-100 with ianto out of the blue, before now he’s done and said p much Fuck All and suddenly he’s right in the middle of this absurdly dark storyline simultaneously Begging for death while trying to save someone who is Absolutely set on killing fucking everyone else

- saying that i actually really LIKE just how chaotically dark this episode is and its one of the aspects of this (aside from the Bad Shit like metal bikini and the secret in the basement nonsense) that has made it perhaps the most Memorable ep of the entire show for me????

- return of the fantastically bad BBC cgi!!!! our tv licence pennies have Not gone to the parts of the programming that i would have liked lmao

- ianto is a really aggressively ugly crier. bad to look at part deux

- on the subject of which, i like that ianto calls jack out in the episode and calls him the monster. bc it seems that like, aside from gwen who is new and not used to the way they do things, the way the rest of the team reacts to things is so fucking shocking lmao. “oh we’ll just plant a body and fake this alien victims death” its so flippant, its good to see another member of the team actually go Maybe Yall Are Fucked Up instead of just shrugging off the way that they are

- anyway thats it!!!! episode done, and so sets the ball rolling of ianto just being absolutely fucking ready to die(tm), you poor poor welsh son of a bitch
