hey! if you don't mind me asking(feel free to ignore this ask) what do actual palestinians think of hamas? I'm not asking to sow any discord or to "catch" you out, I'm asking purely out of curiosity. from where I'm from, people generally view hamas and the houthis positively (and by people i mean the vast Muslim majority of pro-palestine supporters) but i have seen than some Palestinians don't hold them in such a high regard. similarly some people supported the IRA whereas other irish people strongly were against them - so I'm wondering if this is a similar situation? again if this ask is uncomfortable for you to answer , don't feel obligated to
this ask is uncomfortable but i'll still answer because i think it's important.
we as palestinians are sick of getting asked about this. it's asked as though every palestinian somehow has the same opinion on hamas and that each singular palestinian can speak for the rest of the population, which is obviously not true. i don't know every palestinians' opinion on hamas and i cannot list every opinion out there because not all of us agree on one single thing. each palestinian has their own opinion on hamas and honestly, it doesn't matter. we are tired of this question. we don't care about hamas anymore. this shit isn't about hamas at this point. 30000+ palestinians are dead and people are STILL talking about hamas as if that's actually important and rather than protesting for a ceasefire or fighting for a free palestine.
my opinion on hamas is different than my friends' opinions on hamas. my opinion on hamas is different than my parents' opinion on hamas. my opinion on hamas is different than my palestinian mutuals' opinion on hamas. my opinion on hamas is different than a lot of other palestinians who are involved. palestinians who keep getting asked this are tired. we are so tired. i appreciate that you are asking in good faith, but we don't want to talk about hamas anymore. we want to have a free palestine. we want our children to stop dying. we want to return to our land.
my personal opinion is that i don't really care about them. i don't care for their policies or their political goals. i only support them because they are one of the largest and efficient groups who are trying to liberate palestine. many palestinians share this same opinion. they do not support hamas as a whole, but they still appreciate that hamas is trying to fight for a liberated palestine. we support their efforts for the fight against the occupation, but past that we do not care or do not support them outside of that. what they do as a political group isn't something that i'm interested in, because i'd much rather be focused on freeing and rebuilding palestine.
some palestinians hate hamas. my parents dislike them, but they won't criticize them for trying to fight against the occupation, because they know that hamas is one of the most powerful groups of resistance in palestine, and will not go against their efforts to try to help palestine. some palestinians love hamas. some palestinians don't care about hamas. every palestinian is different, but in the end it doesn't matter. hamas is fighting for the same goal as the rest of us. a free palestine.
@el-shab-hussein has a post on his own opinion on hamas that i think is worth the read.
in the end, it doesn't matter about what our opinions on hamas are. because hamas only exists because of israel. if israel didn't exist, hamas wouldn't exist. hamas is a large group working for the resistance and hamas isn't the reason of palestinians' suffering. israel is.
@fairuzfan says: "I know this was sent in good faith but it doesn't really matter what Palestinians opinions on hamas are because even before hamas existed 750,000 Palestinians were exiled and killed."
we suffered before hamas existed and we will continue to suffer as long as israel is in power. so again, it doesn't matter what palestinians' - or really anyone's - opinion is on hamas. what we should be focusing on is fighting for a ceasefire, fighting for a free palestine, and fighting for a free world.

hi i wrote a song for crowley in a warped sort of catholic hymn style
ELEIMON AEGOVOSKOS [Crowley's Hymn]
Kyrie eleison
Sinner, repenter, o lover of mine Take what you will, I lay at your shrine Hellfire, holy water alike Bring damnation, salvation, oh peace be mine Please be mine
Nightshade nightingale Challenger of God Sea that parted, hope that failed Loveless child of the Lord
Tempter so tempted, o starmaker’s smile Give what you will, an inch for a mile Your kindness, wrath, both so alike Bring violent seduction, so beautiful, vile O beautiful guileless guile
Haloed and hallowed, o hollowed outcry Pray to the ruins of your darling sky Now lovers and allies, or foes alike We are ruined, remade, or at least we try O at least we try
Heaven and Hell, o my Fallen divine Equal in wrath, follow close behind Mercy, damnation, twin judgements alike On your knees, your judgement will not be so blind You have never been blind
Forgive me for being blind O forgive me for being blind
Dies irae
On your knees, your judgement Is not so blind You see as they see, you feel it in kind On your knees, your judgement  Is not so blind Your damnation has made you divine Your damnation has made you divine
Please forgive me And please be mine
Kyrie eleison
-Asmi
Notes: There are references to old poems and hymns here, including Kyrie eleison which in Greek means Lord have Mercy, roughly, and Dies irae, an old Latin poem about the Last Judgement or Judgement Day, when God decides who is saved and who is cast into eternal flames.
The line On your knees your judgement is not so blind refers to that one shot in Season 2 Episode 3, where rather than Aziraphale who stands and judges the poor bodysnatchers, Crowley sits next to them and understands. Because he is fallen, and on his knees, his judgement isn't as blind as Heaven's.
Hellfire, holy water alike bring salvation, damnation refers to a sentiment I believe Crowley expresses about how whether Hell ends the world or Heaven, it will be ended just the same.
Now lovers and allies, or foes alike refers to their arrangement, about how either they are allies and lovers, or at the very least foes who are very, very similar at heart.
Finally, the title, Eleimon Aegovoskos, is Greek for Merciful Goatherd. Yep, this is a reference to the Job storyline. Because of how Crowley saved the goats though Heaven and Hell said to destroy them, and also because of that one Biblical story about Abraham where he is ordered to sacrifice his son, but really there is a goat waiting to be sacrificed instead. Crowley spares even the goats from needless sacrifice. Hence Merciful Goatherd, similar to how God is a merciful shepherd (I believe, I'm not sure) because Crowley's damnation has made him divine. I'm not Christian and I don't know much about this, so I'm open to corrections :")

For @melffy-puppy :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You want a car that gets the job done? You want a car that's hassle free? You want a car that literally no one will ever compliment you on? Well look no further.
The 1999 Toyota Corolla.
Let's talk about features. Bluetooth: nope Sunroof: nope Fancy wheels: nope Rear view camera: nope...but it's got a transparent rear window and you have a fucking neck that can turn.
Let me tell you a story. One day my Corolla started making a strange sound. I didn't give a shit and ignored it. It went away. The End.
You could take the engine out of this car, drop it off the Golden Gate Bridge, fish it out of the water a thousand years later, put it in the trunk of the car, fill the gas tank up with Nutella, turn the key, and this puppy would fucking start right up.
This car will outlive you, it will outlive your children.
Things this car is old enough to do: Vote: yes Consent to sex: yes Rent a car: it IS a car
This car's got history. It's seen some shit. People have done straight things in this car. People have done gay things in this car. It's not going to judge you like a fucking Volkswagen would.
Interesting facts: This car's exterior color is gray, but it's interior color is grey. In the owner's manual, oil is listed as "optional." When this car was unveiled at the 1998 Detroit Auto Show, it caused all 2,000 attendees to spontaneously yawn. The resulting abrupt change in air pressure inside the building caused a partial collapse of the roof. Four people died. The event is chronicled in the documentary "Bored to Death: The Story of the 1999 Toyota Corolla"
You wanna know more? Great, I had my car fill out a Facebook survey. Favorite food: spaghetti Favorite tv show: Alf Favorite band: tie between Bush and the Gin Blossoms
This car is as practical as a Roth IRA. It's as middle-of-the-road as your grandpa during his last Silver Alert. It's as utilitarian as a member of a church whose scripture is based entirely on water bills.
When I ran the CarFax for this car, I got back a single piece of paper that said, "It's a Corolla. It's fine."
Let's face the facts, this car isn't going to win any beauty contests, but neither are you. Stop lying to yourself and stop lying to your wife. This isn't the car you want, it's the car you deserve: The fucking 1999 Toyota Corolla.

Some really good notes from my post courtesy of @margridarnauds about that person accidentally using a white nationalist slogan to support the Welsh language:
Tumblr media
I know someone who is doing a PhD on the Far Right and the co-option of cultural movements and these tags are bang on. Its the difference between a healthy nationalism and an unhealthy nationalism. A lot of this goes for Irish nationalism as well as it does for Welsh nationalism.
There's nothing wrong with (and arguably a lot right with) minority language preservation. It can be used for great good (strengthens community ties, preserves culture) but if co-option is not guarded against readily, it can also be used for great evil (see: using minority language struggles as an argument against immigration, for example).
The Far Right sees the cultural preservation of anything (white) and it's like a bat signal. These things are magnets for white supremacists and assorted fascists of all kinds. Which is why it is so goddamn important to be vigilant against people like that hijacking your movement.
I see a worrying amount of Welsh nationalists use (accidentally or not) the language of the far right to argue for Welsh language preservation. It can be as innocuous as advocating for a Welsh Academie Francaise to as obvious as insinuating that Wales must be kept "ethnically" Welsh in order to keep out foreign influence on the language. I see this go unchecked all the time in various Facebook groups for Welsh independence (most of which I've left since admins of these pages either don't know or don't care that people use their groups to share these sentiments).
Nationalism ≠ Fascism - but if you don't keep an eye on the company you're keeping, any well-meaning nationalist/independence or language preservation movement can be hijacked to promote hate. I only know a scant amount because I was only vaguely considering joining Yes Cymru a few years before they all went sideways (but I remember Owen Exie Hurcum talking about this on Twitter at the time) but the leadership of Yes Cymru began to squeeze out minorities from the group- nonwhite folks, gay people, trans people etc. Whole thing put me off from joining. I don't remember the full details but from the testimonies of others, the group was hijacked and steered into a reactionary way of being. Considering a large amount of Welsh nationalists also idolise groups like the FWA (Free Wales Army - a Welsh nationalist group formed in 1963 which tried to emulate the IRA in Ireland, with little success- mostly just playing paramilitary dress up) - whose symbol is this flag:
Tumblr media
Even if the flag itself is based on Welsh folklore and is supposedly an entirely innocent, non fash design- it still is like a beacon to the Far Right who will take any amount of symbolic validation as a cue to join your movement and derail it for their own ends.
Which is why Celtic scholars, people with casual interest in Celtic languages and/or their respective cultures and civic nationalists alike need to be vigilant against those who would co-opt the field for their own twisted hate campaign.
So, one final thought,
Returning to my original post responding to that American chiming into Welsh politics from overseas. Please PLEASE be careful when wading into politics that isn't yours. Where the Far Right are involved, it doesn't take much to cause a dumpster fire - if you aren't 'on the ground' with these issues so to speak, you aren't in the firing line if your comments go sideways and enable/provoke the Far Right in this country.
If you have an interest in Celtic languages, countries and politics- you have a duty to be responsible with what you do and say. This isn't to say that you cannot engage with these topics- but that you should exercise caution lest you accidentally worsen an already delicate situation.
This has been your regularly scheduled Celtic anti-fascist tedtalk. Please reblog to make sure more people become aware of how delicate things can be and how to prevent fascists from getting a foothold in this field. Thank you.

White raven Dracula au
So that first post I made about a White raven Dracula au was partly a joke, but then I started thinking about it more, and well this is the result of that brain worm.
Warning: this is a bit ramble-y.
Lenore is in the role of dracula, and annabel, at first, is in the roal of jonothan harker.
Lenore being a vampire is a secret that has been kept by the Vandernacht family for generations. Also they live in the Netherlands in this au.
Like in cannon the Vandernacts are ludicrously wealthy, and they using that money to help keep Lenore's vamp-ness a secret. Also cause vampire immortality, and a lack of male heirs when she was a human, she still has the money that existed when she was alive. Now Dutch families can be big, so only the main line knows about her.
As for why they keep her a secret, and not kill her for being an unholy creature of the night is because she is useful. She is probably at least a hundred years old at this point and has accumulated a vast amount of knowledge over the years, she knows more about the families wealth and how to handle it than anyone else. Also her vamp powers make getting info on competitors easier. They have a deal, as long as she does stuff to help them they wont murder her in her sleep.
Now this relationship has kind of soured in reascent years. There is no longer any one who remembers Lenore when she was alive, and no one who remembers hearing stories from people who knew her when she was alive. To the current Vandernachts she is a mysterious and potentially dangerous entity. So Thaddeus comes up with a convoluted plan to get rid of her.
He can't just reveal the secret, cause that would cause Lenore to retaliate. So he comes up with an idea for some one to discover Lenore, and say if they die, there would be enough rage to get people to investigate. This results in Thaddeus getting in contact with Ira, and therefore Annabel getting to stay at castle Lenore.
Now the intended result was that Annabel would either discover that Lenore was a vampire, or she would become one of her victims, as Lenore kind of has a taste for the blood of young women (she doesn't kill them though). What ends up happening is gay as fuck.
Lenore is not nearly as evil as book Dracula. She's more of a nuisance than any thing else, sucking just enough blood to satisfy her, but not leave the human with any lasting damage. She is unholy though, and therefore people are still scared of her, they just can't really do anything cause of the Vandernachts.
Now, Lenore has been a vampire for a long time now. There is no way she is still acting or dressing like a normal victorian woman. Shortly after she became a vampire she realized "wait, I'm an unholy creature of the night. I don't have to be straight," and started cutting her hair short and wearing pants. Current Lenore often wears things akin to her dreamland outfit now, or just men's clothing. So yeah, Annabel will defiantly be gay panicking over Lenore in her dreamland outfit.
It's going to start similar to Dracula, sans the racism (old stories are like that unfortunately), and the fear Jonathan Harker had felt in the original story with Annabel's horny. So this, isn't going to be a horror story, at least not from Annabel's perspective.
Now, as for why they fall in love with each other. For Annabel, the reasons are similar as in cannon. For Lenore though, the reasons are also similar, but with the add on that, Annabel is the first person who is not immediately scared of her, and who doesn't become scared of her once she sees all the spooky vampire shit.
Gayness ensues. The social season happens in the Netherlands, but Annabel and Lenore do stay in touch cause Lenore kinda had to act as her translator, since Annabel didn't end up learning much Dutch. So they get to be together, but Lenore has to watch Annabel meet with other suitors, all while their inevitable separation is looming. Unlike in cannon, however, they both know of a way to be together, but neither of them want to talk about it cause it would involve Annabel being turned in to a vampire. Annabel does end up going back to London to be engaged to her child hood friend, and Lenore, in good old Dracula fashion, fallows her home. Now this is when Annabel transitions from the role of Jonathan to Lucy, except the whole being turned in to a vampire is a lot more consensual.

You want an operator that gets the job done? You want an operator that's hassle free? You want an operator that literally no one will ever borrow from you? Well look no further.
The 4* supporter Roberta.
Let's talk about features.
Slow/stun: nope
Self heal: nope
Crowd control: nope
DPS: nope...but she's got 2(+1) block and you have a fucking Kroos that can sit behind her.
Let me tell you a story. One day a heavy defender started walking towards Roberta. I didn't give a shit and ignored it. It went away. The End.
You could remove the talent from this operator, cut her range in half, remove both her base skills, lower her ASPD by 30%, add +2 to her dp cost, redeploy her, and she'd perform as well as she did before.
This operator will outlive you, she will outlive your Cardigan.
Things this operator is old enough to do:
Vote: yes
Consent to sex: yes
Deploy an operator: she IS an operator
This supporter's got history. She's seen some shit. People have used her to hold lanes. People have used her to tank bombs. She's not going to judge you like a fucking Skalter would.
Interesting facts:
Her goggles' color is gray, but her coat's color is grey.
In the owner's manual, usage of her summons is listed as "optional."
When this supporter was unveiled four months ago, she caused all 275k Arknights_EN followers to spontaneously yawn. The resulting abrupt change in metrics on Twitter's homepage caused a partial collapse of the site. Four users were mistakenly banned for being bots. The event is chronicled in the documentary "Bored to Death: The Story of Roberta"
You wanna know more? Great, I printed out a picture of her and had it fill out a Facebook survey.
Favorite food: spaghetti
Favorite tv show: Alf
Favorite band: tie between Bush and the Gin Blossoms
This operator is as practical as a Roth IRA. She's as middle-of-the-road as the rat king during his last Silver Alert. She's as utilitarian as a member of a church of the deep whose scripture is based entirely on water bills.
When I checked Gamepress for this operator, I found a single paragraph that said, "It's Roberta. She's fine."
Let's face the facts, this operator isn't going to win any tierlists, but neither are you. Stop lying to yourself and stop lying to your wife. This isn't the defender you want, it's the defender you deserve: The 4* supporter Roberta.

"Trisha's Log, Day... I don't dare keep up anymore..."
Part 1 2 3 4 5
(Haespar: It's day two. Trisha: Stop ruining my vibe, you're still dead. Haespar: Yes, and I'm haunting you. With facts. Trisha: *hisses*)
"IT HAS BEEN AN INDETERMINABLE NUMBER OF DAYS since I began this expedition, now turned struggle for survival. I've lost Emily and am actively searching for her, but having not had a bite to eat in weeks and running low on water, I don't know if I'll succeed. To whoever finds this-" (Emily: I got the remote power module. And some snacks, here. Haespar: Ooh, melon flavored, my favorite. Thank you very much, Emily. Trisha: *already chowing down on some cheese sticks* Dankss Ehmilhy, yhour da bhest. *gulp* Where was I? Haespar: Starving despair and loneliness. Trisha: Right! Emily, you're currently gone, so just be your usual self and the audience won't know.)
"If you've found this log, I am dead. I died while carrying out my vital mission and searching for my lovely assistant, but failed catastrophically. Unless you're listening to this from a library archive, in which case I totally succeeded and became an awesome legend!"
Trisha continues to detail all of her future exploits and galaxy spanning quest for vengeance, love, mystery, and cake.
Meanwhile:
Haespar: Alright, adjust the telemetry of this unit to the one Valencio cooked up yesterday, and that should hook the biological scanners back up to the bridge. Emily: Done. Haespar: Excellent. *taps his datapad* Ira, bio scans are up on our end, confirm? Ira: Yup, all green. Reading you three down there nice and clean. Trisha's a bit heated up. Monologuing? Haespar: About her imminent demise after years aboard this derelict. Ira: *chuckles* Alright, good to know. While you're there, check on the tertiary power splitter two floors down, the main one up here is acting up a little. Haespar: Will do. Hmm? What's wrong, Emily? Emily: It's flickering between 27 and 28. Haespar: What? Emily: The number of lifesigns aboard.
Trisha: WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! Legit mystery time! *gently into the recorder* (Pause on seducing one of the heads of the three headed corrupt banker to blackmail him for trade secrets only to learn the evil tech startup was a Illuminati cabal all along) Let me see, where is this mystery life dot.
Haespar: It's jumping all over, is there a pattern yet, Emily? Emily: Need to log more data, but doesn't feel like it.
Trisha: It is popping up for a few seconds and disappears for about four times as long though. Hey, isn't that kinda like how you'd do a radio connection attempt? Brute force every frequency range. Oh wait, but then you'd just do all at the same time. Hacking maybe? Trying to get into a specific system without tripping any alarms?
Emily *into her comms unit*: Ira, please send an all frequency ping at these intervals towards us.
Ira: Alright, *shouting* Valencio, give Emily these pings. *normal again* Should be sorted in a tick, what's that about anyway?
Haespar: The lifesign readings are being weird, showing a 28th at regular intervals in random locations. Could be one of the system we haven't checked yet is acting funny and somehow interfering wi- Emily: Wait. It stopped flickering. A 28th. On the bridge. *To comms* Ira?
Ira: Uhh, yeah. I'm looking at him.
???: Hello, my name is Professor Iorvan Hal'Ahmat Garaamhan. Thank you for answering my call.

In the silent film era and the early days of the WRU, young pet number 95, real name Eloise, is bought by film producer Hayes Fletcher to star in his productions. A few years later, he hires Agatha from Foster Montgomery to be her stunt double (read: to scar in scenes where it's necessary, because Eloise is too valuable), and the two young woman strike up a somewhat unwilling friendship.
Over a decade of working on- and off-screen later, it's the roaring twenties, pet liberation is starting to grow, and they're more than ready to leave. Enter Ira Waterhouse – a woman who's had just about enough of the pet industry and is willing to take in two runaways.
But WRU is expanding, and running a newly-acquired safehouse in London's docklands isn't a piece of cake. Especially when the two former pets Ira's running it with are a) famous, b) wanted for burning down a film studio, and c) even more traumatised than she originally assumed...

When 785 is refurbished and sold, meeting a defiant illegal pet named Cass along the way, she ends up living alongside a Pet who seems to know her far too well. Taking her home with the determination that she won't have to recover alone like Kara did, they now have to learn to live freely together, which is no easy task for either of them, although at least they have each other, and Amanda to help.

They're not sure what they're doing, only that it needs to be done, and Lucan's trust in both them and Amanda is hard-earned, his eventual friendship even more so.
But nothing lasts forever.

When his estranged father dies, Tristam, against his better judgement, attends the will reading, and ends up leaving with long-term bloodbag Sunday Afolayan and Eldrida, his father's former employee (and a terribly mistreated one at that, it turns out).
Even with Aileen and Evelyn's expert advice and friendship, it's tricky to bring Sunday back from the depths of his enthrallment, and Eldrida's struggling too. Six years under the cruel fist of Barnabas Sharpe was hard to survive.
It's a difficult recovery for both of them. But surely, things can't get worse now.

Botanist Whumpee
When the rich and powerful Sebastian Beaumont offers Alyssa a place to stay, she doesn’t expect to become his captive for three years. And when Silver rescues her at a party… well, the only thing she’s absolutely sure is better is that they don’t have a basement. They don’t have much of anything, actually. And she doesn’t know whether she can trust them or not, but she stays anyway. With no-one left to care about her, and Beaumont using all his money and connections to search for the pair of them, where else is she supposed to go?

Cian and Row
In a world where superpowers are real, heroes and villains exist, and there's a large black market in powered people, Rowan's been enslaved for as long as they can remember. They're befriended when they're three by Cian Sinclair, a local empathic five year old, and at the age of eleven is rescued and adopted by the Sinclairs. Years later they become a supervillain, disappear for five years and reappear to reunite with their family, and attract another enemy, one far more powerful than their previous captors and obsessed with their healing powers.

Immortal Cannon Fodder
Phoenix, an immortal hero, joins a team that hurts them and uses them as cannon fodder. But their teammates are only doing what's necessary to help them all survive. Phoenix's regular sacrifices are necessary. And it's not like they've got anywhere else to go anyway.
It takes the arrival of Kai, a wolf-shifter and telekinetic, to help them see what's going on. But a friendship and a promised eventual transfer can't fix everything.
Contains: hero whump, abuse, past abuse, immortal whumpee

Anyway in thinking about the fact that the Calloways are complex, I really love how Chetney approached the situation. My hunch is that Travis out of character (and Chetney in-character) wanted to have a one-on-one with Birdie as they swept away the footprints but didn't get a chance, so he ended up joining the scene with everyone else instead to preserve the flow. I do think that a private conversation with Birdie probably would have made more sense, but what we got was still excellent.
Chetney knows Yu was specifically planning to assassinate the Calloways; that Morri almost certainly lied about the postcards; and that Ira is amoral and has shown himself to do some pretty harmful stuff. He knows there's a lot that's not quite adding up and a history of deception (and, as a blood hunter, he has some knowledge of the fey). He's established himself to be pretty familiar with the practice of thievery (and I would be unsurprised if he's also familiar with the practice of, say, sabotaging devices, given the backstory hints we have). He also has been remarkably delicate with the feelings of the party, Fearne included. In all, he's uniquely positioned to have a bigger picture perspective than the rest of the party when it comes to this whole scenario.
He poses the question of what device the Unseelie Court was building as an accusation against Ollie and Birdie - but it's not an unreasonable one. Either the Calloways did in fact just stumble in and pick the most crucial part by sheer luck, which means they're likely in well over their heads and aren't addressing that; or they know more than they're letting on. It becomes quickly clear that it's the former. Which, given that Yu's still out there and the Moontide Crown is literally in the room with them, is highly relevant information that Bells Hells needs to know.
It also has a second purpose: once he brings this up, Fearne catches on very quickly and points out that what the Unseelie Court was building is in fact important information to have, and from there all three of the Calloways look towards Ira. It leads them to it and forces Ira to very obviously evade, whereas directly accusing Ira might have incited the group to another tedious argument a la Birdie and Yu earlier in the day. It then indirectly lets Fearne address the time discrepancy with her parents, which again shifts the conversation towards what deals Ira may have made. In many ways, Chetney is all of Fjord's deftness with absolutely none of the charm, and this is a great example of it. For all I enjoy Ira, he absolutely isn't trustworthy, and this is a remarkably subtle way for Chetney to, in-universe, keep that in the minds of the party when there hasn't been much time for private conversation.
Edit: So I actually messed up the order of events above (kept for posterity): Fearne asks her parents whether she was a gift for Morri very shortly before before Chetney makes his accusation. So I'd interpret it a bit differently: Chetney's reading the room a bit more, seeing that Fearne is willing to consider that her parents might be flawed and that it's safe (so to speak) to bring this up too without upsetting her. He also knows Ira's very clearly evading the first question and now has significant reasons to doubt Morri's intentions, so it's again, maneuvering the conversation to point to Ira. The other points all still stand though; he's still a thief who's spotted some discrepancies in the story.

BRAVERN THEORY AND SPOILERS (and coping)
I think it might be Isami's turn to time travel
his whole thing for a long time was that he isn't the 'real' main character of a super robot show - that was Lewis. Isami was Just Some Guy who got dragged into the position largely against his will
but now Isami has finally accepted his role and come into his own, I think he'll get the plot-bending powers usually afforded to a main character. He will finally, finally take action entirely by himself, without Bravern or anyone else influencing him, refuse to let Bravern die, and use Bravern's time travel core thingy to do..... something
I am incredibly bad at predictions so I won't try to guess exactly, but I think it could involve:
sending himself back to the moment Bravern arrives so that they can fight in sync from the start
or
resetting the timeline completely so that the Deathdrives never arrive (boring but narratively consistent)
or
fusing himself with Bravern to become an even cooler robot
or (I am casting a wide net lmao)
resetting to just before Ira arrived, and continuing to reset during the final fight so that they have infinite chances should anything go wrong
It could also involve reviving Bravern with the Power of Love and Homosexuality
I am reasonably confident that both Bravern/Lewis and Isami will live to the end, because it's just that sort of show lol, but I can really only guess about how it'll get there. Epic 12 can't come fast enough!

The perfection that is the Allegretto from Beethoven's 7th for the final confrontation between Ed and Izzy
and how it contrasts with the other Big Dramatic Classical piece - the one Blackbeard was introduced with in Season 1 - the Dies Irae from Verdi's Requiem.
The Dies Irae is a medieval poem about judgement day; the apocalypse. We introduce Blackbeard, the Mad Devil Pyrate, the harbinger of doom, the bringer of death and destruction, with a wailing choire, crying, screaming about Death. The end of days has come; dies iræ, dies illa, solvet sæclum in favilla. Day of wrath, this day, will dissolve the world in ashes.
Because that's what Blackbeard is, Not a demon, I'm the fuckin' Devil. He can't be bargained with, or begged for mercy. He's inevitable, like a thunderstorm, like hellfire. Blackbeard knows no fear and feels no pain, he's terrifying, he can never be hurt.
(Never be loved, either, but that's a small price to pay, isn't it? Hah.)
But the facade is crumbling. His reign of terror just isolates him; he's hurt and he's tired, so when he goes to the one who should have been his friend, should have had his back and didn't - when he goes to Izzy for one last confrontation
to ask him for the one thing no one but Izzy is ruthless enough to do
we get the Allegretto. Beethoven's 7th is a celebration of german victory over Napoleon at Leipzig in 1813, but the second movement is a funeral march. It's slow and measured, solemn. Fragmented in places, haunting. There's a few moments of triumph in it, but only glimpses; mostly it rises and falls without breaking. It's the look over a battlefield after the dust settles. The unwrapping of a memorial to the fallen. It's a shuddering breath after the crying is over.
For better or for worse, it's a slow, steady march away from destruction towards the future. The battle is done. Ed must go on, and he does; goes into the underworld, all on his own.
youtube
(the Allegretto starts at 14:22)
youtube
(Dies Irae at 9:35)
(and, among all this stuff about death and religion and the underworld, what do we get when Stede and Ed first lay eyes on each other? Our Prayer by the fucking Beachboys. The only faith that matters is the faith in ourselves. I have heard all about you.)

I love the idea of jealous Imogen a lot, especially since she has been shown to be petty and abrasive in many ways. But when it comes to my personal read on Imogen and her relationship with Laudna, I can never fully get behind the end result that people seem to be hoping for when they talk about jealous Imogen, which is that Imogen gets so fed-up and possessive over Laudna that she breaks and ends up confessing/turning on the offending party member*.
The way I read Imogen, she turns her anger/emotion inward as much as outward. She's so consciously aware of both her inclination for violence and her influence over Laudna; actually breaking over jealousy would a) probably take longer than people think and b) cause a massive amount of self-loathing if it happened.
Even with the Dusk situation, I think a big part of her implosion over it is because of her rift with Laudna at the time, not just pure jealousy. And even with all of her suspicions, Imogen is very careful to be calming and supportive when Laudna talks about getting asked out. She asks, "Do you want to say yes?" She reaffirms to Laudna that "Dusk seems sweet." This indicates to me that, while Imogen may be snippy and have moments of obvious and hilarious frustration, when it comes down to it, Imogen will try her damndest to make sure that Laudna's choice isn't affected by her jealousy. She'll be warm and supportive and encouraging, and any other feelings will be repressed even further.
So as much as I like petty, angry Imogen, I don't think another jealousy arc would really move anything forward in her and Laudna's relationship. It might make it worse, which is its own kind of fun. But really, I think it would probably result in Imogen forcing distance again, letting Laudna have the space to explore herself while she struggles to get a grip on her emotions...
...which would serve my own "If Imogen and Laudna do move toward a romantic relationship, I'd like to see both of them date someone else first" agenda really well. So actually, yeah - go for it.
(*I know things like "Imogen v. Prism PVP out of jealousy" or "Imogen fries all the people hitting on Laudna with her brain" are just shitposts and I get it; but I do overthink things and am unreasonably interested in the implications for how the larger fandom is reading Imogen. Personally, I feel like this sort of "Imogen will get sooo jealous of anyone Laudna gets close to" read is part of a larger interpretation of Imogen as, like, one step away from unhinged, completely unable to function without Laudna, a weird cross between infantilizing Imogen and exaggerating her most flawed characteristics. And--again, personal read--I think that's a shame. It feels like we can acknowledge Laudna exploring other relationships--Yu, Ira, Ashton, Prism, Delilah--but Imogen's stuck twiddling her thumbs, waiting for Laudna to self-actualize.)

So the Tree of Atrophy's vision implies that Exandria will survive Predathos's release and abandonment as it chases the gods: "left below, the blue waters and green of the world lay bare". Implying left uncorrupted, but no longer protected by higher powers from greater threats. But what's to prevent new gods from sliding into the vacuum left behind? Or new elder evils from razing the world? Or other planar threats like mind flayers or githyanki or demon hordes?
I wonder if Ludinus accounted for this in his plan. Because according to Ira, the Malleus Key was designed to moor the moon. We're assuming that was for long enough to use the solstice to break the cage around Ruidus, but what if it was also designed to do exactly what it's doing now? Open a crack and just hold it?
The leyline disruption Keyleth and Imogen are sensing suggests that, much like Moleasmyr's spreading corruption, Predathos's power could be infecting the whole leyline network and spreading its influence across the world.
Ludinus's notes went on about his admiration of Ruidisborn and their power, its source something intrinsically antithetical to the gods. How many children have been born near a Ruidis-infected leyline or nexus in the last couple weeks? How many regular folks living their lives near a leyline or nexus have been continuously exposed to Ruidus's flare through it for days on end now? This could be creating a massive new cohort of Ruidis-touched, maybe even Exaltants, all across Exandria.
I wonder if this extended solstice isn't just due to the Bells Hells' interference, but was actually part of Ludinus's plan all along—his gift to the world. A massive part of the population now manifesting powers that brand them, willingly or not, as enemies of the gods. Who pass this inheritance on to their children and grandchildren. A new breed of mortals beholden to no divinity, with the power to defend their independence from any threat that comes in the wake of the gods' abandonment. With the power to challenge the dominance of the gods' chosen, should Ludinus's plans fail, or if he succeeds, to defend themselves against new gods and new planar threats that may rise from the void left behind.
After all, why rely on a capricious eldritch horror to save the people when you can give them the means to save themselves?
I love the possibilities this could open up for the future of Exandria. Ordinary people with these strange new abilities popping up across the land, challenging the social order, threatening vested interests fighting to hold onto their position and influence, being conscripted by the powers that be to prop up their rule, trying to just live their lives and realizing that power also means those who will try to exploit it...
Yeah, very interested what this could mean for campaign 4

Note
ive been rewatching columbo eps on prime video (idk where to get the other season after 7 :c) and i'm just done with A Case of Immunity, the one with the Suarian Kingdom and the whitest middle east guy i've ever seen ? And like. I'm not a fan of that episode, but. I feel like i'm missing a lot of political or historical context for that episode ? And I wanted to know if you knew more. Thank u, I'll get back to my little guy show now.
you're not missing much.
the latter portion of original columbo was marked by an increased desire to show him in radically different contexts--between a man on international waters, an arab diplomat, a IRA liason, a CIA agent, and a mexican matador, it suffices to say columbo got around a little more as time went on. and due to the growing US interest in the middle east throughout the 70s (most of europe's imperialist/colonialist tendrils had vacated, cold war alliances were being made, israel, oil, etc.) i suppose they thought people would want to see something topical. they also didn't want to piss anybody off, so the Very Real Country of Suari it was.
the role of hassan salah was originally intended for ben gazzara, but he was scrapped by the network for being too expensive (much to peter falk's consternation). mine too, really, because though hector elizondo did a fantastic job, i think gazzara would've played a better arab. he was sicillian, but i wouldn't be surprised if he had actual arab heritage, as sicilians very often do. his surname is arabic as hell--غزارة is arabic for "abundance", which ended up as a loanward in italian to mean "noisy".
ultimately though, the middle east is an ethnically and geographically diverse region containing a wide variety of looks and skin tones. for one, i and my entire family are lebanese. my skin is rather pale, my grandfather was tan but had pale blue eyes, my aunt is nearly blonde, etc. so elizondo's countenance may not scream "arab" nearly as much as gazzara's, but levant, maghreb, or gulf--he's not all that unbelievable either.
Tumblr media
funnily enough, in middle ages arabia, those with blue eyes were associated with duplicitous and untrustworthy behavior....
i guess something that does kinda make me roll my eyes is the treatment of the language. to their credit, the characters do speak and write real arabic in the show, albeit...poorly. obviously it's a 70s tv movie, who cares about accurate glottal stops, but they spent like eight grand to rent a learjet for one of the scenes, and the arabic is real and (mostly) intelligible, so clearly somebody translated it. would it have killed them to hire a dialect coach?
Tumblr media
we did get some extremely jewish-sounding arabic out of peter though. so. all is emphatically forgiven
the one thing that truly rubs me the wrong way about the episode is that it's noxiously sympathetic to the american political ethos of the time, which as we well know could do no wrong. watch columbo OWN this EVIL diplomat donned in traditional garb who wants to retain his country's DISGUSTING traditional ways while the new, hip young king who was probably forcefully instituted by american troops in a coup you'll never learn about is COOL and LOVES AMERICA and will lead his oil-filled country on camelback into a beautiful sunset of BEING COOL and LOVING AMERICA. there's NO WAY this could go south. STOP looking at iran NOW
(speaking of which, the state dept. rep who bursts columbo's bubble, kermit morgan, might or might not be a nod to kermit roosevelt jr. who played a central role in the CIA's ousting of iran's mosaddegh in 1953)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...least he's honest
anyway, in retrospect this episode isn't the series' finest moment, but it's a decent watch--and believe me, far and away not the worst treatment of arabs hollywood has thrown at us over the years. i know i'd certainly take a dozen of these over whatever the hell they were churning out post-9/11.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wallahi i could've forgiven the weird culturally inaccurate bowing if they just put columbo in a keffiyeh...
