salem walks by some deer and grimm and while they may have acknowledged her presence, they don't react in any other way; not to run away, or to attack—which the latter especially is interesting bc salem is most certainly not a ray of sunshine and positivity during this time, so you'd expect the grimm to attack her, but nope, they just watch her walk by, minding their own business.
considering that the grimm also weren't a problem during the first humanity's time—there were plenty of kingdoms that came and went with no mentions of grimm causing it—i have to wonder what it is about the second humanity that causes the grimm to target them...

Darnrey hcs?
ok hi sorry for putting you on the backburner every time i sat down to write i got Distracted so umm here we go SJFHG
started off as kinda friends-ish. benrey heard of darnold through tommy before, but hadn't really met him until he started getting assigned to darnold's area of black mesa
after bumping into him for the first time benrey can definitely see what tommy talks about. lil potion nerd <3 and benrey keeps getting scheduled to his area anyways so ... why not have a lil fun?
darnold did not appreciate benry getting in the way and fucking up the potions so he mostly laid back and watched instead. ok well he TRIED to give helpful advice along the way
benrey was noooot allowed to have any potions, mainly because he was still being tested on by black mesa to be the perfect security guard system so they didn't want him to like. accidentally start growing extra heads or limbs than necessary or anything that could be considered a side effect from the potions.
does that stop him? it did in the beginning. a few weeks or so after benrey and darnold became friends-ish and got closer benrey started pushing his luck by asking shit like " yo can i help taste test the potions? " and darnold was like no ... No benry. you can't. but benrey found a loophole by saying " i can if you kiss me "
that started something. darnold pauses as if he's considering it and goes for it. benrey did not focus on the potion that's for sure.
eventually that just became part of the routine of theirs. a kiss to help darnold check the flavors of the potions and then back to normal. for the lols, of course.
^ it was not just for the lols. when benrey told bubby about what happened he called him a dense moron
eventually darnold also just started slipping him new flavors of powerade and stuff under the table as a treat. the highlight of the relationship in benrey's eyes
at first they didn't really Label their relationship. they kissed [ for the bit, benrey had thought ], they hung out frequently, they had Tension but they weren't like. verified " boyfriends " or anything.
^ that changes i'm sure darnold asks him out by inviting him to a picnic or something
one of their first official dates is going to fly kites together. i think darnold would like to have an expansive kite collection ranging from normal kites you'd find at walmart to beautiful stunning crafts to fucked up beasts. benrey, however, only has like 1 kite that he got to impress darnold. it's minecraft themed.
they play games n shit !!! either together or near each other, that's fine too. they'd hold their wedding at a gamestop probably
benrey is the one who cooks. it's not bad but oh it is most definitely not good either
