i dont ship stizzy but i cant deny the comedic potential in making their dynamic into something romantic. these two incredibly dramatic gay men hate each other on sight for no fucking reason and are incredibly petty no holds barred. izzy slashed up stede's shirt in a slutty way for no reason. stede called him iggy for no reason. and like this all happens before ed there's no reason for it they just fucking hate each other!!!
so anyway the dynamic here is obviously that they start hate fucking at some point and then fall in love on accident and obviously they're both SO MAD about it (shoutout to this post by @notebooks-and-laptops). but also once they realize their own feelings they also realize it's MUTUAL. minimal angst there imo i dont see angsty pining for stede and izzy sorry. they probably realize because stede stede calls izzy darling in bed one time and izzy moans to it really loud and then suddenly instead of hate fucking it's slow passionate and they're making love and right after that theyre both staring up at the ceiling like. fuck. fuck. i cannot believe im in love with this prick. this is the worst day of my life.
which leads to "i-love-you" chicken where neither of them say it. not because theyre afraid to but bc they don't want to lose. like they dont talk about it but it becomes clear that whoever admits that they genuinely care about the other first loses. lose what? idk their dignity. bragging rights. cannot stress enough how much this happens without them verbally communicating abt it they just KNOW and they know that the other one knows and they’re both trying so hard not to say it but also trying to get the other one to say it first
so they try to aggressively woo the other one with like over-the-top romantic gestures (gifts and acts of service or whatever idk i dont care enough abt this ship to think of examples). and whenever like stede is trying to woo izzy all he gets is izzy being like “fuck off bonnet” and a huge prick and vice versa for when izzy tries to woo stede (idk what either of them do to woo each other and i don’t care enough abt this ship to think of anything sorry). and the crew is like “i thought stede and izzy were past this silly squabbling”
and idk maybe this is steddyhands in which case the crew is asking ed “doesnt it bother you that theyre at each other’s throats again?” and ed (who’s been having the time of his life watching the two of them have incredibly passionate and romantic but also angry and competitive sex for weeks) is like. oh im sure they’ll work through this little spat in no time.
in my head izzy breaks first when stede gets severely wounded in a raid and while he’s unconscious and healing izzy is like “you piece of shit i love you so much you cant die now” and THAT’S when stede wakes up and is like “HA!!! YOU ADMITTED IT FIRST!!!!! I WIN!!!!!!!!!!” and he rips his stitches from laughing so hard and roach has to sew him up again before he bleeds out

as always I’m thinking about the Stede/Izzy/Ed dynamic and trying to figure out how they can still win. I started going through this in the notes of a post and realized I just wanted to talk about it lmao so here we are
I’m Okay. So here’s the thing. I am so pro steddyhands. Like frankly it’s a dynamic that I love and want to see more of and like. As more mentally healthy individuals I think they would be soooo unstoppable like actually peak romance and chaos. BUT they are. Not. Mentally healthy individuals like they are all so incredibly fucked up. And that is maybe a post for another time. Anyway so I have two ideas about the ideal plotlines for these three, which I call the realistic plotline, and the one that won’t happen but would be sooooooo gay plotline.
This post ended up being kind of long bc I talk a lot lmao so here’s a cut.
Even though I want in my heart a steddyhands endgame, Jenkins has said that the third season would (if greenlit) be the last, and that’s just not enough time to work out a well-written and satisfying romantic end for the three of them. Also, I just honestly don’t think steddyhands was ever in the cards for this show; it would just be way too messy idk. Realistically, I think we can definitely get an Izzy and Ed reconciliation, and we’re DEFINITELY getting stizzy bonding this season, so at the very least they’ll all be friendly going into the third. But this season is obviously about Stede and Ed learning to trust each other again and get to know each other better before they go back into romance. They have shit to work out and they’re clearly gonna be starting to do that in the next few eps.
I thinkkk the plan is for them to heal this season and actually figure out their feelings for each other bc let’s be so real, they were so fucking repressed in season one and had just BARELY realized they were in love before things went to shit. The third season will probably just be them becoming proper husbands and co-captaining and like fighting the British yippee. Cannot wait.
As for Izzy. Oh my god Izzy. Okay. So he’s sticking around for now. He’s been the only one looking out for his crew this whole time (and honestly I think he and Stede might bond over that. Stede kind of gives very few fucks about his crew but he values their lives and doesn’t WANT to leave them behind. Tbh breaking them out while also dealing with Ed’s death was just so insane of him and like. He’s gonna be such a good captain.) and anyway, we know he’s going to be teaching Stede pirate things. Not to mention that everyone loves Con so Izzy’s undoubtedly going to be hanging with the crew and keeping them organized while Stede and Ed fuck off on their bonding excursions.
My running theory for Izzy in season three is that he’s going to be captaining the Adventure. (For those who don’t know, the real life Blackbeard had the real Israel Hands captain that ship for a hot minute.) Izzy’s wanted to captain a ship for a long time, and I mean, he’s the Revenge’s captain in all but name at this point. So once he’s sure Ed and Stede and the crew aren’t going to set the Revenge on fire and accidentally kill themselves, he’ll go off to captain the Adventure and have his own healing journey during the third season. Hell get to figure out what it’s like to be out from under the shadow of Blackbeard, and like honestly it’ll be way less stressful and he’ll have a good time. Season three can cut between his adventures and the Revenges adventures, and the overarching plot will have all of them reunite in the latter third of the season (deus ex machina Izzy PLEASE). They’ll work together, have a final reconciliation where they all end on good terms, and either Izzy will go his own way as his own pirate captain, or he’ll decide that he’s grown and healed but he still likes working with New Ed and he stays on with the Revenge or they form a fleet with the Revenge and the Adventure and maybe another ship that shows up at some point in the third (I just feel like a fleet of two ships sounds stupid sorry). Maybe they’ll give Izzy a boyfriend in season three also. Like maybe it’s just me but I feel like getting laid would fix him.
I’m really, really excited for Stede and Izzy to get closer this season. Their little enemies to romantic rivals to still romantic rivals but they have bigger things to worry about to besties is just so real. And I think that them being closer is going to just bring this new balance and dynamic that we haven’t seen before.
So that’s the realistic plotline. Everyone ends up happy, we have pirate husbands, and no one dies except for the British. Onto my insane pipedream plotline also known as the outline for the fic I will probably never write.
Basically, it starts off quite similar to the above prediction for the rest of the show. The only caveat is, the show extends past three seasons. I don’t know that Jenkins will keep writing after the third, even if the response is huge, just because he seems really dedicated to telling the story properly, and unless he decides now that he wants to keep it going, a fourth or more season would mess up the pacing of the show, especially since the season three finale is supposed to the The Show Finale. But for the sake of this fic outline, let’s pretend we get as many seasons as we want.
I still think Izzy should captain the Adventure. Like I really firmly believe that his and Ed’s relationship cannot fully heal unless they part ways for a bit, and as an Izzy diehard I just want him to have fun without worrying about Ed 24/7. I want it to be light, though. Like mostly just him working out his shit with Ed and what he wants from his life going forward.
Meanwhile, Ed and Stede get to have their honeymoon phase on the Revenge. They’ll have a mostly functioning crew for once, and I also like the idea of them escaping the law or fucking up nobles. Like just really have a fuck the rich moment. Once again, it’s light. BUT I also want them to acknowledge that they miss Izzy. Like Ed will tell stories about the years he worked with Hornigold and how he fell in love with pirating and probably compare this new beginning with him and Stede to when he set out on his own captaining journey and as he reminisces and starts to get over the trauma he never really dealt with, he’ll realize just how much Izzy was always there for him, and he’ll regret how he treated him when Izzy was the person closest to him for so long. Also, generally seems to be leaning away from being a full pirate rn. Like he’s definitely starting to realize that there’s more that he wants out of life, which he’s going to have to balance with pirating being the more that STEDE wanted out of his life.
Meanwhile, Stede will have his pirating tricks that Izzy taught him, and while Ed has his own style and certainly lots of pirating experience, he’s already taught Stede a lot, and, quite frankly, he’s a terrible teacher. Like. We saw how the sword fighting lessons went. Izzy is going to be more effective, and I think he and Stede are going to have a lot of fun once Izzy realizes that Stede actually respects his advice and genuinely wants to improve. Like that’s going to be really good for them. But then Izzy leaves, and Stede’s left with not very many people to go to with advice or ideas. People that will critique him (mostly) fairly. Once again, Ed loves Stede, but he mostly just wants Stede to be happy, and he’s good just being on the sidelines watching his husband slay the pirate life. So Stede misses Izzy too.
So does the crew. Ed tends to view himself as quite separate from the crew, and while that’s subject to change, I don’t think he actually knows how to be a good captain? Like. Izzy has been doing his job for him for forever. Meanwhile, Stede cares about the crew’s well-being, but he really isn’t that close with any of them. He very much sees himself as their leader, and lets them do whatever the fuck they want as long as the ship isn’t sinking and they all get to do some good old fashioned raiding.
Izzy, on the other hand, spent a long time in the space between captain and crew. While he sees himself as part of the crew, he has a huge responsibility that inherently comes with being first mate and is further burdened by the weight of dealing with post-breakup Ed. He earns the respect of the crew when they see how much he takes on for them. “He’s our dick.” While Ed’s prestige intimidates crews into following him, and Stede initially bought a crew, Izzy earned the respect of his crew, and he proved to them that he cared about their lives and their well-being. So yeah, going back to the Ed/Stede co-captaining chaos means that the crew is going to miss Izzy.
Note here that I think the Adventure would already have a crew. I don’t know under what circumstance they’d need a new captain, but let’s imagine that that’s what’s happening here. I want Izzy to be fully out on his own, without any of the crew he’d had before. Our season one crew stays with the husbands. In my mind, Izzy meets a guy from the Adventure, they become besties, and then that guy invites Izzy to come be their captain bc the old one like died or whatever. New guy is Izzy’s first mate, and helps him work through some of the Issues.
And Izzy LOVES being captain. He likes the responsibility, he likes looking out for his crew, and he enjoys looting and fucking over other pirates and colonizers and it’s just a whole vibe for him. He’ll earn the respect of this crew as well. He prioritizes their lives over his own, and they genuinely enjoy working for him.
Here’s the thing, though. Being captain is lonely. He has his own quarters, which are pretty fucking sparse. He has a new crew, and while making his own name is good for his ego, no one on his new ship knows him the way his old crewmates did. And let’s be honest, while his crew enjoys working for him, he runs a tight ship. He’s abrasive. He’s brutally honest. He can be cruel. He’s fucking insane with a sword. Let’s not forget that this is a man who, unlike Ed and Stede (for now) very willingly murders. Izzy can be SCARY when he’s not running himself ragged trying to please and take care of and save the man he loved without getting the rest of his crew killed.
So. He’s not really bonding with the crew. They aren’t friends. They’re just a team of pirates who trust their very scary leader. He’s close with his first mate, at least, since that’s the buddy who brought him onto the Adventure. For the most part, the isolation isn’t bad. He’s allowed to reflect and grow and become more confident in himself. He realizes he’s his own person and not just Blackbeard’s guard dog.
Still, he finds that there are things he misses about the Revenge, so when Ed and Stede find themselves in a tight spot (with the British? I do think it would be so fucking funny if we had ANOTHER Badminton), Izzy doesn’t hesitate to come to their rescue. He saves the day, gets to talk a bit with the husbands, and they decide that while being separate was good, maybe traveling together is something they can do again. The Adventure joins the Revenge, and we end season three.
THEN in season four we get to see the three of them together again. Their time apart has helped ease tensions, but there’s still work to be done before we enter poly territory. So Ed and Stede are fully in a relationship, with Izzy on the outskirts. Izzy’s gotten over his blind devotion to Ed and has grown closer to Stede, and it’s comfortable, but sometimes still a bit weird.
Izzy’s (and by extension, Ed’s) past is coming back to haunt him in this season. People he thought he’d left behind show up, enemies he’s made are coming back for revenge, and he can’t deal with it all on his own. Ed and Stede have to help him through it, and they have his back the way he had theirs at the end of season three. Ed begins to realize that he didn’t know Izzy as well as he thought he had back when they were shipmates, and so they get to talk and properly discuss what went wrong between them (namely Ed’s dismissive attitude towards Izzy and Izzy’s inability to accept Ed as anything other than the Dread Pirate Blackbeard).
Stede and Izzy get to be Violent together while Ed stays behind and organizes the auxiliary wardrobe, and now that Stede has improved on his swordsmanship even more, they get to have a lot of fun. Bonding via murder, my beloved. They learn how to work as a team, which would just be SUCH a dynamic like gentlemen pirate plus rabid chihuahua? Nothing better.
Eventually, I think the Adventure would make its departure. Izzy’s first mate would become captain, and they’d part amicably. Izzy stays with the Revenge. With Ed and Stede. The three of them take meals together. Izzy is a co-captain in all but name, preferring to remain first mate as long as he gets a say in what they do and where they go. He loves working more with the crew again, and they’re more responsive to him than they’ve ever been.
And slowly but surely, they all realize their complicated feelings for one another. Secretly and without telling each other, obviously. Ed and Stede are both confused with themselves because they’re HAPPY they have and love each other, but they also both value their time with Izzy so, so much, and of course they can’t say anything to the other because then Ed will think Stede doesn’t want him anymore, or vice versa, and that’s not what’s happening.
Izzy is just so fucking confused bc he can tell that how he felt about Blackbeard hasn’t gone away, exactly, but something’s different. And when he and Stede are fighting together or preparing the next ambush or discussing plans for their next stop, it’s so fun. Fighting with Stede is like breathing in a way that fighting with Ed never was. So. What the fuck? But it doesn’t matter how he feels anyway because Ed and Stede are together and why would either of them ever want to replace the other with Israel (Basilica) Hands?
So while they’re each having an existential fucking crisis, the entire crew knows what’s going on, or they at least have realized that there’s something weird happening with Izzy and the captains, but it’s not bad the way it had been before. So there’s betting pools going on who’s fucking who and whether or not Ed and Stede will leave the other for Izzy or if they’ll all just end up being together.
And just as things are reaching a breaking point between the three of them (Izzy retreats from them both, snapping at them and refusing to open up the way he had been previously and yelling at the crew more than usual, Ed stops talking to anyone at all, preferring instead to do target practice with Jim, and Stede is throwing himself into one raid or project after another, staying up through the night until he can’t stay awake any longer), our main conflict comes into play. We’ve been dealing with someone from Izzy’s past all season, and things finally come to a head. Tables are turned, and now Ed and Stede have to work together to save Izzy from whatever the fuck is happening. During this time, they realize that Izzy is equally important to the both of them and vital for the co-captain dynamic and they’re like. Fuck. Now we REALLY have to save Izzy.
And god, Izzy’s been saving their asses this entire time, hasn’t he? He’s always been there, and now they need to be there for him.
So uhhhh they rescue him and everyone kisses yippee that’s the ens of season four. Season five gets to be the True Poly Season, where they get to fuck around and be the baddest bitches of all time and it’s beautiful.
And that’s my rough outline for. What the show could be? A fic I want to write but probably won’t? Uhhhh yeah 👍

Something I want to point out about Izzy being so incompetent is that every time he fucks up, it has something to do with Stede. I think it's pretty safe to assume that he was at least decent as a pirate before meeting Stede, seeing as he's alive and Blackbeard's first mate, and that it's only during the show that he starts to fail so spectacularly. This got long, so I'll go over his most embarrassing moments under the cut.
When he gets ambushed by Stede in episode 2, it's because he assumed Stede was incompetent for running his ship aground ("pirates, my ass"). He wasn't even completely wrong about that, but it did cause him to underestimate Stede and lose a hostage.
When he can't bully Lucius into doing grunt work, it's because Stede has cultivated an environment where his usual tactics (only yelling and blackmail, as far as we know, but I'd imagine he also perpetuated more of the 'culture of abuse' Stede mentioned in episode one) don't work. (I see a lot of takes about how he just gets stressed about wanting the crew to do work, and like... he only ever targets Lucius, whose only job is to write stuff down. He was bullying Lucius because felt the need to assert his dominance over someone he saw as weak.)
When he loses the duel, it's because Stede outsmarted him. Izzy couldn't imagine Stede's creativity and originality (something he repeatedly mocks) being anything other than pathetic and shameful, so he fell for Stede's fuckery (I can't find it now, but I read a post laying out how Stede probably had a plan the entire time and didn't just win on dumb luck).
When he fails to get Ed away from Stede (both when Calico Jack fails at leading Ed away from the British and when Ed takes the act of grace) it's because he can't understand what Ed feels for Stede. Ed loves Stede enough to give up everything for him, and Izzy just doesn't get it; he can't conceive of that kind of selfless love.
(I don't really count Izzy getting his toe cut off as a failure for him; he wanted Blackbeard back and that's what he got.)
So I don't think Izzy is fundamentally incapable of doing anything right (although that is fun to joke about); I think he's so attached to his rigid conception of piracy and masculinity that he can't conceive of anything outside of it having any value. Presumably, that all worked for him before Stede, and maybe it was even necessary--I'd imagine that acting like Stede under any other pirate captain would turn out pretty terribly, and I can totally understand having to become a heartless asshole just to survive.
I think/hope he'll learn to move past that in the future and see that, in a place not entrenched in piratical/masculine norms (the Revenge/wherever Stede is), he can allow himself to be soft, kind, thoughtful, and everything else he hates in others and, unless I'm just projecting, himself.

A Firm Hand
Pairing: Izzy Hands x Reader
Word Count: 2524
Warnings: Smut, sub!Izzy and dom!reader, fem!reader , spanking, explicit sex, praise, mommy kink, aftercare
Synopsis: With the Captains gone all day attending a fancy party, Izzy has been tormenting the entire crew. After knocking you over in a hissy fit, you follow him and give him a piece of your mind.
A/N: Sorta sequel to my other fic, A Light Touch. Many thanks, @liddell-alien for the idea for this story and your support! More babygirl Izzy, but this time he's being a brat. :)
It’s been a week since your "dalliance" with the first mate. At first, he actually seemed a mite less ruthless and had stopped hitting everyone nearly as much. This, of course, didn’t last long as Ed and Stede had only been spending more time alone in their quarters or having intimate conversations away from the crew. On this particular day, after raiding a vessel, Frenchie had found an invite to some upper-class party that the Captains wanted to go to. Izzy was positively quaking in anger when Ed had stepped out in his flashy purple and gold suit looking more like Stede than ever. His rampage afterward was absolutely insufferable! Screaming at everyone and bullying Lucius for hooking up with other crew members like he’s not jealous. The last straw was when he walked in on Wee John and you watching Lucius sketch Fang.
“You’re really capturing something there.” Wee John says, peering over Lucius’s shoulder.
“Completely right” you agree, “the shading really draws the eye.”
“Thanks, I’m just capturing what’s there.” Lucius says with a wink as Izzy pushes past you to see the drawing.
Stopped mid-stride, his eyes widen, and he squeaks out “What the fuck?” at the sight of Fang reclining nude on the couch and Lucius’s rendition of it. Stumbling back quickly, he knocks you to the ground and scurries out of the room in shock.
“Shit!” you yelp when your legs go out from under you and your tailbone slams onto the hard wood of the Revenge. The men’s eyes widen in confusion and Wee John offers you a hand. Rubbing your now sore ass, you grimace.
“I’m going to go deal with that asshole.” you say through gritted teeth and stalk out of the room after him.
The three exchange looks before Fang asks “Which one of them do you think’s gonna win?”
“My money’s on y/n.” Lucius remarks casually before going back to his sketch.
Izzy’s back is to you and is opening up the door to his room when you catch up.
“Hey, dick!” you shout at him as you grab his shoulder roughly and turn him towards you.
“What the fuck was that about?” Jabbing a finger into his chest as you speak, his eyes widen and he walks backwards taken aback at your reaction.
“You’ve been absolutely intolerable today, and that hurt like hell!”
Remembering he’s first mate, his anger returns and he yells back.
“The lot’s been fuckin useless all day, laying about instead of doing their jobs!”
Rolling your eyes, you smile incredulously.
“Ever heard of a day off!? The Captains are gone, and our ‘job’ is to wait for them to return. Get your head out of your ass Izzy, no one else is working!”
“Look, Mummy-” he begins angrily when your eyes snap to his and he realizes his mistake. His confidence drops immediately and he shrinks into himself, deeply embarrassed and aware of the position he just put himself in.
“Mummy?” you repeat, eyebrows shooting up before what he had said actually dawns on you. Eyes narrowing, a wicked smile spreads across your features. Analysing the situation, you come up with a plan to kill two birds with one stone.
“I see.” is all you say, turning around to lock the door behind you. With a click, the door shuts and the room is silent except for his ragged breaths. You walk past him slowly, swaying your hips as you sit down on the edge of the bed and spread your legs.
“Here.” you instruct him, pointing to the floor between your feet.
He walks over and looks down at you, biting his lip in anticipation and uncertainty. You don’t meet his eyes as you work on removing his outer layers. Gently, you pull the strap of his sword over his head and lean it on the bed frame before beginning on his black waistcoat, tugging it down his shoulders. He swallows audibly as you finish by unbuttoning his shirt, tossing it across the room, and tugging downwards on his shoulder. Following your lead, he gets into kneeling position in front of you, placing his hands on his lap. He looks up at you, green eyes peeking through long lashes, tongue darting out to wet his lips. Petting his hair for a moment with a smile, your fingers cup his jaw before firmly wrapping around his throat.
“I consider myself a very patient person, Iz.” you begin quietly, flexing your hand along his warm skin.
“But you just cannot stop yourself from antagonizing everyone around you, all the time. I mean I’d call it a skill at this point, sweetheart.”
“So here’s what’s going to happen. I am going to punish you for your fucking inexcusable behavior, you’re going to thank me, and then I’m going to use you until I’m done.”
“Understood?” you command, pulling him face to face with you harshly.
“Yes.” he grits out, unwilling to give in so easily.
“Yes, what?” you taunt, relishing his shame.
“Yes, Mummy.”
“Good! Such a well behaved boy, hmm? Now bend yourself over my knee and take off the rest.”
He slowly gets up and removes his remaining clothing, tossing everything to the side and standing before you naked. Your eyes wander over his body, tanned and deceptively strong despite his years. The scars you saw last time cover more than you thought, leaving barely an inch of flesh unmarked by his life on the seas. His breathing is quick, eyes watching you expectantly. You shut your legs and raise your right arm, indicating where he should lay.
“Hold onto my ankle and put your weight on me.”
“Yes, just like that love.” You tell him, cooing praise when he positions himself as instructed.  Grabbing a handful of his ass roughly, you kiss his shoulder.
“Ready, Iz? And don’t forget to keep count, or else I’ll start again.”
“I think we should start with 10 for being such a nuisance today, and 15 for knocking me over so rudely.”
He nods silently, and you ready your hand to the soft skin between his ass and thighs. The first smack is loud, but he recovers quickly and says “One.” without so much as a waver to his voice. Taking it for the challenge it is, you wind back hard for the second and feel a slight sting in your hand as it connects. You’re rewarded with a surprised groan before he readjusts his grip on your ankle and counts “Two.” After the first ten, you can feel his cock hardening on your thigh, leaking precum as his ass starts to brighten. He’s squirming with each hit, muffling his cries with your thigh.
“Aww Iz, you’re doing so well for Mummy.” you whisper in his ear, rubbing the pink, sore skin on his ass in circles. He hums in response, using the pause to catch his breath and release the tension in his legs.
“However, I do expect you to stop treating the crew like shit from here on out unless you want me to repeat this everytime you misbehave. Ass up, 15 more left for hurting me sweetheart, and then we’ll see if you learned your lesson.”
At the 18th smack, he unravels and ruts against you, aching for friction, forgetting his predicament for a moment.
“Izzy!” you say scandalously, hiding the smile in your voice. “You’re supposed to be atoning for your actions, not getting rewarded. Five more for being so fucking pathetic.”
After 25, you take another pause and rub circles along his back, noticing his cries becoming more needy and his grip on you loosening.
“See, that wasn’t so bad gorgeous, only a couple more left.” you tell him, using a crooked finger to wipe the tears off his face.
He look up at you reverently, drops sparkling on his dark lashes. Pulling your hand back again, his ass is almost bright red and heat is radiating off him. Being gentler with the last five, you praise him for every hit, savoring his whimpers and groans. After the final one, you run your hands through his hair and let him rest on you for a while as he recovers. Lifting his shoulder gently, you guide him backwards and lay him next to you before kissing his forehead and stepping back. He props himself up on his elbows to lazily watch you take off your corset and clothes, too tired to rub himself while doing so. You catch his eye and can’t help but smile. Half an hour ago he was acting like a raging dickhead, and now you’ve got him sweet and docile. If only it didn’t take so much work to bring out that obedient little pet inside him.
“So my love, you’ve earned by forgiveness but not my favor. If you can put that mouth of yours to use, I may consider giving you a reward, otherwise you can jerk off alone while I go find someone else to satisfy me.” you threaten with a smile. An empty one of course, but he doesn’t know that. He jumps up to a sitting position in an instant with a wince, his jealousy and desperation on display.
“Please. Let me serve you, Mummy.” he begs, eager to prove himself.
Pushing him backwards, you crawl over his body and position your knees on either side of his head. While you lean back to rest on his chest, his hands move up to rub and squeeze you, kissing whatever skin he could reach. In amusement, you put your thumb into his mouth which he clamps down on and sucks hungrily, locking eyes with you. A shiver runs down your spine watching him; the infamous, murdering pirate Israel Hands being brought to heel by some deckhand. You tangle your fingers in his hair and slide down, connecting with his waiting mouth.
He is as skilled as last time, parting you slowly with a flat tongue, dragging it with even pressure, lapping at your folds. Digging himself deeper into you, he moves with purpose, now focusing on your clit, intent on demonstrating his worth. Lost in pleasure, you start to grind on his face, squeezing the hand in his hair and releasing choked gasps, unable to form words. Soon, the tension inside you begins to grow and he pushes your hips forward, his nose now providing the friction while his tongue fucks you. You can barely catch your breath before he brings you over the edge, muscles tightening and back arching with a “Fuck, Iz!”. As you ride out your orgasm, he doesn’t stop his movements, motivated by the uncontrollable shaking in your legs. The overstimulation is almost too much, pleasure teetering on pain as he rips another orgasm out of you. This time you lose all control and cum with a scream, thighs slamming together tightly. Pushing yourself off him, throwing yourself on the bed and try to come back to reality, ears still ringing loudly.
Using an arm to wipe his face, he rolls over and starts leaving kisses along your neck. He pushes the hair stuck to your face tenderly and begins to suck hard on your collarbone, leaving bruises. Staking his claim for others to see; unwilling to let another even touch you without losing their hand for the offense.
“I need you” he murmurs at your neck, punctuating his marking with growled “mine”s.
Savoring his attention, you let him cover you, his work roughened hands kneading your breasts. You reach over to palm his cock, all but forgotten during his worship of you. He buries his face into you immediately, moaning as he thrusts into your hand, gripping you tightly.
“I think you deserve a reward for that performance.” you purr, pulling him towards you and wrapping your legs around his waist.
Rubbing your wet core against his shaft, you kiss the swallow tattoo on his neck and bring the tip of his dick to your entrance, enveloping him slowly. When he buries himself to the base, he stills, loving how you seem to wrap around him perfectly, like he was made for you. He touches his forehead to yours and kisses you passionately, hands sliding under your arms to grab your shoulders from behind. Using the extra leverage, he pulls you chest to chest with him, rolling his hips into you harshly. The sensation is almost hypnotizing, thrusts deep and steady. Tightening your legs around his waist, he drops his head on your shoulder, nearly spent.
“That’s it, good boy.” you murmur into his ear, stroking the back of his head. It’s not long before his rhythm begins to falter and he’s kissing your neck again.
“Please, can I..?” he pants, hips stuttering as he tries to control himself.
“Yes, darling. I want it all.”
He groans your name as he releases, cock pulsing inside you as he slows and slumps onto you. The sensation of being filled with his cum is intoxicating, a physical reminder of his desire and your control over him. You stay like this for some time; Izzy listening to your heartbeats while you draw shapes on his back.
“You alright, Iz?” you ask quietly, kissing the top of his head.
“Yeah.” he responds looking up at you. “Though, I’ll be sore for the next week.”
Suppressing a laugh you disentangle yourself and instruct Izzy to roll over on his stomach. You rifle through your clothes for a moment before pulling out your prize, a small tub of cocoa butter.
“This’ll help with the stinging, love. Plus I swiped it off the Captain so I’m sure you’ll have no complaints.” you tell him before warming up the lotion in your hands. He hisses at your first touch, but gradually relaxes as the pain begins to dull and the cocoa butter works it’s magic.
“Did you mean it?” you say, hands gliding over his thighs.
“Mean what?”
“Mean it when you said you need me.”
It’s quiet for a moment before you continue.
“Because this arrangement we have is fine and all, but I… I want to get to know you.” you finish, closing the tub and getting up to leave. Before you can stand, his hand shoots out to grab yours and he turns to face you.
“I’d like that.” he said quietly, his attempt at a comforting smile making you chuckle. Giving him a quick kiss, you toss him his clothes and get yours on as well.
“Well, if the crew didn’t know what we were doing before they sure do now. It’s been an hour since I told Lucius, Wee John, and Fang I was coming to ‘take care of you’.” you say fastening your corset.
“Not to mention those beauties on your neck,” he adds proudly. Punching him in the arm with a smile, you fix your hair and go unlock the door.
“Y’know I was serious about the being an asshole bit, Iz.” you say, looking back at him. “Best behavior with the crew; unless you want another round that is.”
“Tough choice.” he grins, eyeing you as you walk away.

okay so i talked earlier about ed's masking and how it influences how he doesnt really know who he is, but the few times the mask really slips are usually when he's talking to izzy or stede about being bored
and more than that, i was discussing an earlier comment i'd made, which @treesofgreen picked up on and further commented on, that break up robe!Ed (talent shows, quitting piracy for good etc) shouldn't be his final form because that isn't him either (it is, in fact, as she pointed out, Stede)
but i want to talk about what i think ed's issue is and what his final form might end up being
To begin with, we have a few comments from episode 4. The first is he tells Izzy he's bored of "make a plan, execute the plan, make another plan, execute another plan" and so on, but when he talks to Stede about it later on, he hones in on a separate point all together: the name Blackbeard precedes him. He doesn't have to even be on the ship; someone sees that flag, Blackbeard's flag, and immediately they surrender.
Then, over the course of the next few episodes we watch him run fuckeries and raids, enjoy being a pirate, get turned over to the English etc, and he seems happy. He's having a good time.
Later, when he's on the beach, he says he's happy to be Just Ed, that he gets to figure out what makes him happy, and he says that the last few weeks have been the most fun he's had in years, maybe ever, and he figures that what makes him happy is Stede.
And before you all come and stab me with pointy things, I love these two. Blackbonnet otp all the way, Stede definitely makes Ed happy, Ed loves him, Stede loves Ed etc etc
but.
I don't think it's just Stede that made Ed happy, and I don't think that had they run away together to China that they would have been happy. And I think Ed knows it isn't just Stede that made these past weeks happy for him, else it would've been okay to stay at that base a little longer than one night, folding clothes and whatever else, because they would've been together. He knew that just that alone wasn't it, it wasn't the key. He's just confusing the fun he's had with the love he feels (which makes sense! We all do that).
I think what made him happy, beyond the fact he loves Stede and was enjoying their time together, is the life Stede created around them both. Stede's ship was pathetic and weak and had one good pirate on board before Ed came along, and then Ed came along and they had five good pirates, a captain who knows nothing about sailing, and a crew of ridiculous personalities that somehow work but are definitely not good pirates so far. Stede's crew couldn't fight off the Spanish. Stede's flag doesn't fill the enemy with so much fear they just immediately surrender. Stede's life is exciting and full of random happenstances and not everything is already a given, especially without Izzy there to make plans.
Which leads me to my thesis statement here which is that I think Ed's actual final form should be: co-captaining a pirate ship with Stede, letting go of the Blackbeard mantle to "just be Ed", except Ed gets to be a pirate, and Ed gets the adrenaline rush of raids, and the excitement of planning, without it being a well-oiled machine that always wins.
And yes, that might include Izzy (even the finest honed plan wouldn't be a given with the crew they have), but it definitely involves more games of chance and more possibilities of defeat.
Moreover, Stede ran away from his boring little life to become a pirate a few weeks ago (I really thought the show was quite a few months, but I think it was only a couple?? Somehow we just get full moons every other night (it's "tomorrow" in episode 4, today in episode 5 which must have been a few days later at least because Stede is fully recovered, and then tomorrow again in episode 8, which implies three months) in ofmd land and that's fine). He's hardly going to want to stop doing his dream he's finally achieved and run away to live a boring domestic pauper's life with Ed. Run away with Ed? Sure. Be as happy like that as he was on the ship with him? Ehh. No, I don't think so, at least not right now.
Anyway I think the final form is sailing the high seas, conducting chaotic raids and going to party boats, and swapping out flags every few months so no one ever knows its them.
I just hope the beard comes back.

Things that I, Knives, personally hope to see in season 2 of ofmd (in no particular order):
(beware of spoilers)
Feel free to add your own expectations too, it's fun.
more Roach. Just more Roach is what I ask for.
possibly Olivia and Karl's offsprings, because the though of Buttons having a bunch of birds friends that are hell bend on avenging their partner and father is hilarious to me (and I'm assuming cj is alive, because reasons) plus I want to see "Buttons being somewhat mystical" thing explored more.
a call back to the joke in episode 6 in s1, Izzy eavesdropping on his captain having seemingly normal, if heated conversation with Stede fucking Bonnet, only to discover that they got physical
the progression of Jackie's revenge on Jim (like I was surprised to realize that most people don't see how young and inexperienced Jim is? Jackie almost got them that first time, her plan totally would have worked if not for Stede breaking the nose jar. And for the second time she talked Jim out of murder).
how Stede will settle into "true" piracy (and here too I'm surprised how people are criticizing him for "playing pirates" when the show actually spoon feeds us that this was his plan all along, to play pretend with his wife and children. When Mary soundly rejected the idea, Stede runs away on unfinished ship) without the cushion that having a fortune provided for him before
since all Izzy's attempts of separating Ed from Stede backfired spectacularly, I wonder if him trying to bring them back together would also result in the opposite. But for that to happen first he'd have to fully realize what the Kraken is fully capable of... and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that (kinda am, kinda not)
finally Ed, is there even a thing I don't want to see about Ed, huh. As I mentioned, I kind of want to see more of the Kraken (fictional violence and fictional suffering is a way to explore stuff, right) but I also want to see him heal (mostly because another hiatus will make me suffer).
I'm super curious how the change in Ed will resonate with Stede and vice versa. Because Stede is the one who struggles to change all his life and couldn't, and as a result was forever isolated and an outlier in every group he ever was part of. Meanwhile Ed is the one who mastered the art of changing and fitting in groups (to the point of considering a part with fancy people a challenge "how does one win this interaction"), as a matter of survival and gaining control over his own fate. But that lead him to severe burnout and depression, he's clearly struggling with his sense of self & self worth. So I'm super excited for this season.
how Frenchie and Jim will deal with being on a Blackbeard's ship/the contrast between before & after (I think ironically Frenchie is better at adapting than Jim, but we shall see) also will we get more of Leather Crew that we saw in glimpses in season 1 (if one of them is named Kevin or Terrence, I'm investing my savings in lottery tickets/becoming full time clairvoyant)
I'll add more as soon as I remember them.

This was supposed to be a short, cheap, easy fill for 'nightclub', in which Jack is established as 'that friend' who always has a wild new business idea and relies on friends who love him to help provide seed money for each venture (and to keep him aloft in the in between when unfortunately for him it all inevitably falls apart. Bc he's a good ideas guy, but not always a good executioner or maintainer of his ideas guy)
Now it's almost 3k words and includes: (spoilers for today's au-gust fill below the cut)
-Jack stealing Izzy's classic car (I only kind of mention what kind, but in my head it's for sure a late 60s or early 70s model Alfa Romeo Spider or Spider Veloce) and it being established that this isn't the first time Jack has stolen Izzy's car for funds for a new idea (because Izzy might find him frustrating, but Jack is a friend of Ed's and so Izzy does his best to try and help Jack too)
-the fact that Izzy isn't rich enough to be able to afford this hobby easily; he's been grinding and working and saving up for it (an even bigger expense bc the implication is for this story everyone is currently living in the States, so he had to win an auction and then pay to import it over from Europe AND then pay for the repairs and restoration, whether done by himself and Roach or hired mechanics)
-the property Jack wants to use for the nightclub being in fucking Medora, ND, because I've been thinking about ND again and couldn't think of a worse place to try and set up a nightclub.
-it's also implied to be nearly winterish weather for the East Coast where Ed, Stede, Roach, Izzy (and usually Jack lmao) are, and definitely bad winter weather for the Midwest/ND (bc in the years prior to my moving to CT, I remember talking abt and showing blizzard pics the same months that folks out this way were cold for sure and maybe starting to get frosty, but not always to the degree of what ND would be getting hit with lmao.)
-Jack is driving the stolen car there. An Alfa Romeo Spider. In the winter. It would be funny if it wasn't just plain dangerous, but that's where his buyer is, you see.
-they've finally made contact with him only for Jack to immediately be manipulative about coming back/the police being involved, and him refusing to turn around. But he acknowledges the good hard work and money Izzy and Roach have put into the car, and promises that they'll get half the payment for the car back from him.
-The rest of it is his seed money to start the club. Cuz he'll already be out in ND at that point, so he can keep going on with his plan easily enough. Two birds one stone, all that jazz

rewatched ofmd 1.09 and 1.10, and here are some random thoughts!
MAN, 1.10 is such a great episode of television. so funny, so poignant, so upsetting, and the way it allows us to hang out in mary’s point of view for awhile is so refreshing and enjoyable. it’s SUCH a great close to the season. i wish it could win awards. it SHOULD win awards!
i am obsessed with the widow evelyn and that post that said she and spanish jackie should meet will haunt me forever now. i’m not saying i WANT mary and her widow squad to turn to a life of piracy, but if for crazy plot reasons they wound up temporarily drawn into pirate adventures, i would be so, so happy. i also feel like mary is just too great a character to not see again.
it’s so striking how mary plays the same role in stede’s life that izzy does in ed’s in this ep, to completely opposite effects. (a spouse and a first mate aren’t so different, in a way!) i think the reason stede is able to forgive himself and move forward is because mary has the grace to be happy for him, embrace him as he is, and sincerely wish him growth and good things even after he’s hurt and bitterly disappointed her in the past by not being able to be the man she needed him to be (a proper, loyal husband). meanwhile, we have that scene with izzy and ed where izzy basically has the same grievances with ed -- he was promised one thing (blackbeard!), he devoted his life to one thing (and in a subordinate position, similar to a wife in a marriage of centuries past), and when ed couldn’t hold up his end of the bargain because ed wants to be ed, he got beyond pissed because the whole foundation of his life is therefore shattered. stede had support from the person who knew him best as his old self and ed didn’t and that made all the difference. mary said, “you don’t have to try to be this anymore since it’s not working” and izzy said, “if you’re not what you were, it would be better if you were dead.” (which is extra disturbing for a character who we see with some degree of suicidal ideation when we first meet him.)
i just can’t unsee izzy as an echo of ed’s abusive father, which is why i think his words cut so deep. he is SUCH a vile and disturbing character, aaaaaaaaah. great job making me hate you, con o’neill!
i was also struck by the visual parallel of ed putting the kohl on his face to become ~the kraken~ with stede smearing the pig’s blood all over his face while faking his death, and how those moments mark them going in completely opposite directions (ack, my heart!): stede’s doing it to be able to kill off his old self who he never felt right being, where ed is totally regressing and trying to completely cover up his new self with his old one.
i continue to feel like ed’s descent into mad-bad-dangerous-to-know-ness is less about stede ghosting him alone, and more about how badly he yearns to be his true self and how completely unacceptable he feels it is when stede isn’t there to give him the confidence, now that izzy has planted the idea that his real self is something completely shameful.
god DAMN the writing on this show is so smart and layered and psychological and interesting. it feels so good to watch!! my brain is happy! and my heart is suffering. come onnnn, hbo max!

Something we don’t talk about enough:
I see lots of people who think Izzy is in love with Blackbeard, which btw can absolutely still be true, but let’s not ignore what Izzy already is to Ed… an abusive friend.
Tumblr media
Um... no you didn’t.
In one of the very first scenes we see them interact, Izzy deliberately lies to him. Why? What is the point of telling him that Stede made those comments with full knowledge of who he was referring to? The point is that now Ed has a reason to “teach him a lesson.” Izzy doesn’t actually care why Ed wants to meet Stede, he just cares that it’s done in an acceptable way by his standards (aka violently). With Ed’s current state, Izzy is unsure he’s going to behave the way he wants him to. So he immediately uses subtle manipulation just in case, something that Ed would likely never notice.
Tumblr media
We also see Izzy on several occasions try to manipulate Ed into distancing himself from any other person he could be close to, but also pulling back when Ed starts to catch on. When Ed starts visibly connecting with Stede, Izzy makes it pretty clear that he sees this as unacceptable and threatens abandonment… but then Ed claims that he’s actually planning to kill Stede. And suddenly Ed’s “still got it.” Abusers are really good at knowing when to threaten and when to hold back.
This same idea is applied when Stede is about to be shot by the firing squad. This is possibly the only time Izzy seems to speak to Ed with kindness… and is also possibly the most diabolical we see him.
Tumblr media
A trademark of any abusive relationship is the feeling of isolation, that the world has fallen and they are the only ones either willing or able to shelter you from it no matter how they treat you. Izzy’s ensuring this by first of all, literally getting rid of the actual healthy relationship in Ed’s life, and second, swooping in and presenting himself as the only available alternative. He speaks kindly to Ed and reframes his abusive behavior as “loyalty to his captain”, aka “I hurt you because I love you.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He even calls him Edward, something he’s been increasingly more and more against but is now doing it with such ease that Ed may doubt himself. “Was Izzy actually that much of an asshole about it before? Is he willing to do better? Was I just being a paranoid?”
Izzy essentially tries to love bomb Ed in this scene. Instead Ed punches him in the face and then successfully rescues his very kind and respectful boyfriend. Good for him 😂
But speaking of boyfriends… alright let’s talk about that scene.
Tumblr media
Aside from “telling someone they should be dead and then calling them a slur” possibly winning a medal for worst way to treat a depressed person ever, this is where we get to see that all those manipulation tactics actually worked. If Izzy loves him enough to “tell the truth” no matter how hurtful or humiliating, then that means actual demonstrations of love are potential lies. After all, the first person to successfully show Ed that softness can come without a price has just betrayed his trust in a big way.
Tumblr media
Is Ed’s vulnerability really being rewarded? Since when did it ever get be that simple? Are his real friends actually being kind… or is this passive aggression? A history of abuse puts people in a place where they are never sure. After all, pirates don’t have friends. They’re just in various stages of fucking each other over.
Abusive friends are almost never portrayed in media and I think they really should be. Bad friendships can be just as damaging and difficult to overcome as bad romantic and familial relationships. That is why I think it’s important for Izzy to remain a villain, and for Ed to eventually learn to see through him and either cast him out or demand better treatment. Because no one owes an abuser redemption, even if by virtue of the relationship people think you just “let it happen.”
