dai is so strong. not talking about violence though i mean the way there's so much pressure on him but he still manages. one step at a time one day at a time, think positively, think proactively, do your very best for not only yourself but also everyone else, and it's never baseless optimism, it's courage in the face of difficulty, it's i want to be able to do something, there has to be something i can do, so i'm going to do everything i can to do it,' that's a completely ordinary yet extremely touching human sentiment that some people don't stretch themselves out to, but so many dnangel characters do, and not just the ones with weird magic bloodlines. that being said, is it unfair for daisuke as a phantom thief, as a kid raised since birth for the sake of a destiny, to have to do a lot of what he's doing? yeah, and dnangel acknowledges this; recognizes this in the form of his 'powers,' his inheritance being a 'curse,' his loneliness and misery and terror whenever he and dark are out of sync and he feels strangled rather than pushed forward by the way he was born and raised to be a phantom thief. the sins of his ancestors persist and become his, dark's existence remains miserable and unchanged for centuries and centuries, his magic is first and foremost a punishment, sleeping beauty pricking her finger on the spinning wheel, the beast for his lovelessness, until his very own love alongside everyone else's cures it and lifts the curse, not just for himself but for dark too.
he couldn't escape the circumstances of his birth, (neither could dark,) but he's always trying to step forward with a retained romantic passion and love for his life and the decisions he can make for himself, the things he can control about his own life - making art even if he isn't talented at it, engaging in new hobbies at every opportunity, sticking close to his friends, utilizing what he's learned since he was born to try to selflessly help, rather than selfishly take and hurt. 'in this world, magic is something born out of human hearts.' daisuke's healing and dark's 'trickery' at its core really isn't supernatural, it's completely ordinary; they're magicians, illusionists, entertainers and comforters, they make what seems impossible possible, they're incredibly skilled and clever, but more than anything they've almost aaaalways had a positive, enduring, and protective attitude. don't be afraid of change, don't be afraid of moving forward, don't hesitate around those that you truly love and appreciate, That's Really Strong!!!!!

One of the things I love, and I mean this extremely genuinely, one of the things I fucking love about Arcane is how resolutely it refuses to be subtle. Take this moment for example: Viktor has collapsed because he has terminal I Am Going To Fucking Die Disease, and he talks with Jayce about how he is going to die from his terminal Going To Fucking Die Disease
And then immediately SMASH CUT to Sevika throwing down onto the card table the Death card next to the Magician, who is portrayed with three arms and a cape oh hey that's just like Viktor LeagueofLegends what a funny coincidence hey I wonder why it's next to the Death card
and oh look he has a round thing with a magic rune on it oh gee I wonder where we've seen that Hexcore before
it's so good, I love it so much
speaking of not being subtle, hey remember how Mel spends episode 4 and 5 seducing Jayce into political corruption and also literally seducing him with sex and kisses?
anyway after they have sex and Viktor collapses from Going To Fucking Die Disease, Mel wakes up alone in her bed (and seems a little hurt by that, almost as though there's a bit more feeling behind it than just a convenient political seduction, huh) and that looks like this:
which then immediately match-cuts to Viktor in the exact same position on screen in the exact same composition from the exact same camera angle
because Mel and Viktor are two people who occupy the same emotional space in Jayce's life, you see, they are both his partners. Jayce has the same kind of relationship to both of them, and in going to bed with Mel he betrayed Viktor, which is why the sex scene is intercut with Viktor collapsing in pain and suffering, because when Jayce gets in bed with Mel he cheats on his partnership with Viktor, because Jayce and Viktor are partners, in the same way that Jayce and Mel are now partners.
anyway the point is, the inventor boys are lovers, your honour. my case rests on a bed of roses, gently caressing the ground beside it, inviting you to join it by the fire. it has a fine bottle of wine and a poem it wants to read to you.
