I have a bunch of old drawings of OCs I did back in middle school, and like most of my main characters I used to draw her with a religious fervor. This is Jinkei.

The left side is her from the original drawing, which unfortunately doesn’t have a date on it (and is also incomplete), but I want to say this was done somewhere around 2002-2003.

The right side is her via glow-up a’la a rough sketch on a notecard. I’m not quite sure what bby!Grand was thinking giving her a thick, sleeveless vest on top of elbow-length gloves. I think the former is supposed to be a varsity jacket of some sort (you can clearly see what I think might be either the number 16 or 18 on the original pic), since Jinkei was conceived as a high schooler in mind. I don’t know what was going on with the belt; it’s supposed to look cool not practical lol. Also you can see that somewhere in the past 20 years I opted out of drawing detailed eyebrows and went for a more simplistic look (which I’m trying to course-correct so my OCs don’t suffer Same Face Syndrome, but...ugh! I hate how eyebrows and eyelashes look on them! No wonder I don’t bother drawing them!).

At least Jinkei rocks her long, auburn hair, even if it eventually gets chopped off a bit so it just goes down the length of her back and not right past her ass. I’ll be the first to admit that I loved my girls with long hair lol

#armi's art #armi's ocs #traditional art #traditional sketch #you can practically TASTE the capcom/snk influences in her design #and that's definitely b/c i played the fuck out of king of fighters and CvS w/ my best friend on the PSX #but jinkei started out as a quasi-shoryuken clone and ofc as a kid i didn't really know any better #the phoenix imagery isn't present here but it's been part of her motif since her inception #so she's kind of the reason my usernames all have 'phoenix' in them #if i had to retool her now i'd make it so she becomes more her own character instead of a kusanagi kyo clone #i'd prefer not to completely remove her from her roots since they're a part of her so i think i can find a nice balance #between the old characterization and the new characterization #although the difference between her and kyo is that despite how rough her personality is kei takes her academia seriously #and the pyrokinetics isn't hereditary like the kusanagi flames but a power passed on to chosen people via phoenix lords #since kei's story took inspiration from the four auspicious symbols from chinese mythology #so she represents the phoenix while others are backed by the tiger the turtle and the dragon #i think a lot would change now w/ the story's first inception so if anything at least the idea would more or less stay the same #among many other things but i think you get the general gist of it
