Bruce Clone Danny Fic pt 5
i really need a proper title for this one.
Happy Tuesday! Our previous episodes are all found under the Bruce Clone Danny Fic tag. No, this fic still hasn't told me it's name. But as it's Cloned from Clock's City Pigeons Bleed Green i'm considering something referencing Mourning Doves now. For funsies. Part 4, last week, is where the end of chapter 1 would be if I were posting this on AO3 btw. (I'll get there eventually).
Pt 1 Pt2 Pt 3 Pt 4
***
Danny curls in on himself, even as his wounds pull with the motions. He’s so weak. He’s so exposed.
He can’t - he doesn’t know what will happen. To him. To Ellie - sister-cousin-daughter of a neverborn halfa, born after her own death, somewhere out there herself. They thought, once, maybe - maybe - …
When he was little, maybe around five or six? He’d heard his parents talking once, after they thought he was asleep. He’d snuck onto the staircase just to hear them talk.
They were thinking about another kid. Something with the ‘same problems as before’, something with ‘household expenses’ but all Danny could think about then, was having another family member come to him. His to love, to teach, to keep safe, like his Mom and Dad worked to do with him, like Jazz did all the time. He loved them, and he wondered, a bit, what it’d be like to be loved like that.
To protect someone else the way they’d protected him.
But they’d ended the conversation on a sad note, and Danny crept back upstairs to bed, quiet as anything, and he’d never gotten the little sister that Dad said he wanted and Mom sighed and wished for.
And Danny had thought, well. That’s fine. Things disappoint you, right? You don’t always get ice cream after dinner and sometimes your Mom forgets to give you lunch money that week so you don’t eat, and sometimes you see a dog you really want to go over and pet but you ask the owner and the owner says no, because the dog is too scared. And sometimes you don’t get a little sister.
Danielle - Ellie, as Tucker dubbed her after they’d caused too much chaos once with the same name thing - was a gift, even if it had been one with creepy ass strings attached. Even if Vlad didn’t care about her and his parents Jack and Maddie couldn’t know about her and he and Jazz got somewhere between two days and seven out of every month seeing her face to face.
She was still his.
And it didn’t matter, anymore. What happens to Danny. If he could protect her, and help Sam and Tucker and Valerie back home, and help Jazz, who didn’t deserve Jack and Maddie either, and help stop all of this.
Johnny 13 didn’t deserve this. Kitty didn’t. Ember and Technus and Skulker and Sidney Poindexter and Frostbite and Clockwork and so many of them didn’t deserve this.
“Aww, buddy, I love having another for Clone Club but it also always kind of sucks to get another for Clone Club,” Superboy says, behind him.
“Yeah,” Red Robin agrees. “This is one of those times where I hate being right,” the guy sighed.
“You think you’re Bruce Wayne’s clone then, kid?” Hood asks, his voice gentle. “You look like him. Do you know why they cloned the guy?”
“Didn’t have time to look at the docs, but it might be in there. Was kind of busy trying not to get Ended,” Danny winces. “But with Jack and Maddie? Odds are it was an accident.”
“How do you know that?”
Danny snorts a little, and winces when it hurts.
“Hey, buddy, need more water there?” Red Robin is gentle.
“Yeah,” he says, and well, it’s true.
“What’d I say about interrogation, Hood?” Superboy grumbles, and there’s more water at Danny’s lips. The waterbottle, insulated, with the ice - it’s one of those with the wider lips, though, and with the cap off he sips greedily.
Cold. Nice.
“I’m trying to figure it out. You know the old man will be terrible with this one,” Hood replies.
“Hood,” Red Robin sighs “You know I hate having to remind you of our usual protocols.”
“Yeah well, you could use a bit of loosening up and not being a picky little asshole about it. I mean, look at the kid, you think he’s not gonna wind up knowing this shit anyway?”
“Can you two just not for a bit? Please?” Superboy sounds exacerbated. “I don’t know what’s got a bug up their bonnetts this time,” Superboy tells Danny, “but they’ve been sniping at each other for days.”
Danny sips a bit more ice.
He gives Superboy a little nod. “Sounds like home,” he says, thinking of Sam and Tuck, and the way he and Jazz could snipe when they got into moods.
“Your - Jack and Maddie argue in front of you a lot, Danny?” Hood sounds… mad?
Oh. Oh!
“OH, no, I was thinking about my sister. And my friends,” Danny adds.
He isn’t prepared for how everyone in the room stiffens at that.
“Do we need an extraction?” Red Robin asks.
He must look confused, because Hood adds, “For your sister. She somewhere safe?”
Danny blinks a few times. Because what?
Superboy just sighs. “Danny, it’s pretty clear that your parent- former parents? Jack and Maddie - hurt you. If your sister is still in danger, we want to start working to get her out.”
Thank you, Superboy, he thinks, for explaining. Or trying to. Because… no. He still doesn’t really understand.
“No? Jazz isn’t a ghost. She’s their kid. They won’t hurt her.”
Danny’s too tired to worry about the looks the guys all give each other at his answer.
“If I’m gonna be awake can we turn that thing off?” he whines, throwing a hand up towards the ceiling light. The motion doesn’t wind up being that big, but he hurts. “Do you have more ecto? It might help.”
Red Robin moves, and turns on another lamp - a standing one, before switching off the ceiling light. Thank goodness, that helps.

Always get a bit frustrated whenever I see a comment on a kitty-edit that's like "Oh Kitty had such a sad childhood, but at least she has the Captain now."
Don't get me wrong, I love their relationship, it's adorable, he is definitely her dad as evident by how she views him as such in flashbacks the same way Alison is her sister.
But I feel like people forget that their relationship is actually fairly new? She outright says in the first series that she does not like him and that he's only got worse since Alison arrived. It's not until S3 they start to warm to each other and what makes it work so beautifully is how it coincides with Cap becoming more true to his (fabulous) self, rather than trying to be the bossy soldier. Basically he fits the mould of her real father, both good and bad, but the more he subconsciously reminds her of how cold and strict her father could be, rather than his sweeter moments, the less she wants to be around him. When he starts to let his real self show and become more the man she wishes her dad had been is when that bond starts to form. That's what I find interesting about them.
However the suggestion that Cap is the only one to care for her or even the one who cares the most I feel does a real disservice to the other ghosts. They all absolutely adore her in their own way.
Her friendship with Mary was adorable and I love how protective Mary was of her even before Kitty died, insulting her father for ruining her fun, then standing up for her when she stood up for Cap, them gushing over things together like the rice krispies and the snow globe, making up their inventory song, Mary comforting Kitty at the party and putting her to bed. How heartbroken Kitty was at losing her and desperate to believe she would come back.
Every scene she and Pat have together, him being her dance partner but also him being the one to take on trying to explain death to her and doing as a parent would, how he probably did the first time Daley had to deal with death, it's just so relatable how he didn't want to be harsh but needing to be honest.
Julian calling her a "dear, sweet thing", him being the only one to attempt to explain to her how baby's are made (graphic and disturbing as it was), how he's ready to tell her the truth about Santa but as soon as he's sees the look on her face it's enough to melt his Tory heart is the peak Christmassy scene of that episode for me.
Thomas hugging her at the panto (one of only two hugs we get in this show!) and being so grateful for having her as his manager, how gentle he is when he asks to inspect her hands for the spider bite.
Robin knowing her pregnancy shtick is nonsense but going along with it like a brother being roped into his kid sister's make believe, rubbing her feet for her and sitting with her most of the day, him leaving a party that he loves to take moment to encourage her to cry her feelings out and then helping Mary put her to bed, how she only has to call his name and he's jumping in to scare off the plaguers.
Everything with her and Humphey! How she's the one who is the most concerned about where he is and making sure he's in one piece so he's not left behind, these two have the most adorable Uncle and Niece vibes.
Fanny is the only one I feel the show let slide on having her bond with, I think the most progression they have is Fanny praising Kitty's speaking in S4. Kinda miffed about this one because without Mary and with Alison gone, they're the only girls left and it would have been nice if they'd developed a mother-daughter bond.
Last but not least her and Alison! Their relationship is so important to S3 and how it contrasts to Alison's storyline with Lucy. Even though Lucy turns out to be a fake, it's still a good show of the importance of found family as much as blood family, how Kitty is jealous at first but then becomes the catalyst for figuring out who Lucy really is and protecting Alison from being scammed. It's such an important arc for her character that gets sadly forgotten, how she's not smug with joy that Lucy is gone at the end but just expresses sympathy for Alison losing the sister she never had. "You're the sister I never had" was the line that I first choked up at in this show. Also props to Kitty for literally annoying someone into being a true. best friend, she gives the rest of us losers hope!
Overall just how lucky Kitty is at the end of the day, that yes she had this privileged but ultimately toxic upbringing and died very young - but now she's surrounded by these people who absolutely adore her and might not always cope with it the right way but they just want to protect her because she is so sweet and endearing. If I could add any scene to the finale I feel like Alison should have got to have one talk with Kitty where she assures her that yeah they'll be apart but she's always at the end of the phone and will visit often, but also assuring her that she still has SEVEN people who love her to bits which is more than a lot of us get.

Considering I just finished watching ghosts I am in surprising good spirits.
Here's my thoughts NO MAJOR SPOILERS.
Alisons reaction to the prank first ep nearly had me in tears the end of the episode was kinda predictable if you've read the fantics you'll know what I mean.
The episode that stood out to me the most was the second to last one I have so many thoughts CAPTIANS BACKSTORY he's so silly but also havers OMG I CAN'T probably the best scene in the entire show my opinion.
Another thing that stood out to me was fanny she really let her hair down and I mean litterly she let lose and it was another side to her I really enjoyed.
The ending with cap was just so amazing that's all I can really say I'm just so happy for him bro like he can say stuff like that now and not worry about being judged like ADFSFSGSGSG.
Fr I binged watched this as soon as I could I also really enjoyed the music references and how fast captain fell for Alison's prank OMG "clever girl" STOP.
I loved the cap and kitty scene in episode 2 like DHHDBDVHDBDB father and daughter moment.
And THOMAS he's so sad and silly I also (there's a lot of also) loved learning more about how talented fanny is like seriously she needs more love as a character and I think this season will really give her that.
And mike he has more screen time in this season and I really enjoyed it his dream made we weeze.
AND KITTYS BACKSTORY ACTUALLY HAD ME SHOOKEN.
Overall I'm so happy with the ending and can't wait for some more 6 idiot works THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!!!!!

Here’s a list of what I’d like to see in season 5, especially now that we know it will be the last🤞:
Cap accepting his sexuality/“coming out” (whatever that ends up meaning to him)
Kitty’s death story
Kitty realizing the extent of her sister’s abuse (and that she absolutely didn’t do anything to deserve that treatment)
Cap-Kitty father-daughter content (perhaps related to the above point?)
Cap’s death story
Mike communicating and connecting with the ghosts - like when Julian helped him with filming the Button House ad
Mike and Alison having a successful business venture/finding some way to stay at Button House without it being a money pit
Plague Ghosts interacting with the main ghosts and Alison
Humphrey being included more
Chess husbands (not necessarily romantic)
Patcap (ditto)
Please add on if you want!

Shadow of You TEASER
Tumblr media
VAMPIRE!Seventeen
Pairings:Seventeen??XOC, Seventeen??XOC, OT13
Synopsis: Quinn and Kitty are two normal twenty somethings, but when they find themselves in a new country the duo come face to face with love, heartache, and the unknown... or perhaps the supernatural
~ Not edited ~
Tumblr media
It started like a whisper, so quiet that Kitty almost missed it. Every night it was the same, no light except for the candles that lined the room, flashes of images of an old dark castle surrounded by mountains capped with snow.. She could see no one else in the room with her, but could feel them watching her and just as the panic began to set in the voices got louder.
“Katarina” It was loud enough now that she could hear the different voices. Still, she had no idea where they were, the only thing she knew was the louder the calling got the more desperate she was to get to them. To find them.
“Come to us, Katarina,” It was so loud now as if they were standing right behind her speaking directly into her ear.
“Katarina.”
“Katarina!”
“Kitty! Get your ass up!” She sat up with a start, nearly rolling off the couch.
“I’m up Quinn, I’m up.” Kitty rubbed the sleep from her eyes and grabbed her glasses from where they had fallen from the couch. The sun was still up outside and the TV was playing some random episode of Criminal Minds in the background.
“Did you fall asleep out here? You have a whole bed,”Quinn plopped down next to Kitty on the now free couch cushion. It was the fourth time this week that Kitty had fallen asleep out in the living room, it was never intended either.
“I know, but I’m not sleeping well at night. I keep having the dream, I don’t know how you sleep so soundly with it,” Kitty was exhausted from her restless sleep. It had been months since the girls had started having identical dreams each night.
“At first, I was so creeped out and it felt like I was having a panic attack every night when I closed my eyes. But it’s never been like a nightmare, I realized at some point I never felt scared of what was happening. My panic was because I feel as though my soul is weeping to get to those voices,” Quinn had told Kitty this all before and she couldn’t help but agree to some degree with her best friend. She had never had a true nightmare since these dreams started but there was something that sat low in her gut every time she slept. Fear of the unknown or of all the superstitions her family had drilled into her as a child.
“I know, but all I can think about is the scary stories my Father would tell me as a kid so I would behave. That if I was a bad child the red-eyed men would drag me away into their castle and eat me,” Mr. Turca was a harsh man and had always been rather ill-suited for fatherhood. Even now the only thing he was good for was paying the bills, his trade off to keep his first born daughter as far from his new family as possible. That’s how the two girls met, when Kitty was shipped off to boarding school after her Father had remarried.
“He’s such an asshole, you know that. He acts so high and mighty all the time. I’ve never even met the man and we’ve been friends since we were 12!” the two girls broke out in giggles, one sure fire way to make their days better were to talk shit about Mr. Turca or Quinn’s mother.
A buzzing sound started from the coffee table in front of the couch, the two turned to each other trying to sober up from their laughter.
“Speak of the devil and he shall appear,” Kitty flashed her phone screen to Quinn to show that her father was calling her.
“I can only imagine what he wants now. You know he only ever calls for two reasons,” The two girls rolled their eyes knowing that he was either about to yell at Kitty for being a disappointment again or he was going to ask her to do something that was beneficial only to him.
“Hello.” Kitty’s voice always became cold when speaking with her father, gone was the happy and loving woman she had worked so hard to become everytime his voice rang out over the phone.
“Katarina, I have news about Aunt Lucia. She had been put on hospice care and given only a few weeks to live,” Kitty’s eyes went wide with the news and Quinn took that as her cue to retreat into her room to give her roommate some privacy during the phone call.
Quinn was known to be too curious for her own good, let’s be honest she was a nosy bitch. She wanted to know everyone's business all the time, but she also respected her best friend above all else. Kitty’s father was a sore spot and most of their calls ended in some sort of fight between the two of them followed by him buying her something expensive to make amends. To keep her from going anywhere near his new wife and kids and imposing on his new happy life without her.
Quinn occupied herself with her books and the other random crap in her room while she waited for the phone call to end, Kitty would almost always come and debrief after a conversation to process the bullshit that her father would spew.
This conversation seemed to be taking longer than usual. The goal for both father and daughter were to keep these calls as brief as possible, the less they interacted the better.
Twenty minutes passed before waltzing into Quinn's room with a smirk on her face.
“I just scored us a free summer vacation traveling around the whole of Europe,” Kitty was rather proud of her bartering skills this time around. Her father wanted something huge from her and she wanted something huge from him.
“What’s the catch?” There was always a catch with the Turca family, nothing was ever truly free with them.
“We have to go to Romania and stay with Aunt Lucia until she dies. Then we can spend the rest of the summer traveling Europe as we please on my fathers dime.” Kitty was a little too nonchalant in her delivery of the real reason behind their Europe trip.
“I don’t know how I feel about this, have you ever met this woman?” Quinn was usually fine with all types of fuckery but this… the vibes were just slightly off with this.
“No, I’ve never been to Romania. My dad went with his grandparents when he was very young, but that was the only time he’s been. Aunt Lucia is my father’s great aunt, his grandfather’s twin sister.” Quinn’s eyes went wide at the news of this woman’s age.
“She turned 108 in March, the look on your face gave it all away. I don’t know how she made it this long either, kinda feel bad for her.” Kitty stopped playing with the book she had picked up off of Quinn’s bedside table to think back to what she knew of the woman she would see to the end of her life, “Never married or had children, she’s lived in the family home her entire life. She refused to leave when her brother decided to leave the country. She’s like a hermit from what I understand, but no one should die alone.”
“Well then, looks like we're going to Romania and Europe for the summer. Good thing you’re a kindergarten teacher and have summers off.” Quinn assured her best friend trying to bring the mood back up.
“Good thing your job is writing erotic monster fiction and you can do that from anywhere,” Kitty pocked back at Quinn tossing the book with Quinn’s name across the front towards her spot on her bed.
Thousands of miles away fate was stirring. Thirteen pairs of red eyes were open and looking into the darkness of night waiting, longing for their brides to come to them once more. To complete them.

Snapchat AI is WILD
SO. My friend @captain-parks decided to use the Snapchat AI to find out some things about Ghosts. I've been trying not to use mine because I don't want to help train it but this was genuinely hilarious. This is going to be a longer post so more under the cut!
The Captain is respected by the other characters in BBC Ghosts because of his military background, but he can also be a bit intimidating. He has a close relationship with his wife, who is also a ghost in the house. The other ghosts sometimes find him frustrating because of his strict rules and regimented nature, but they also appreciate his kindness and sense of duty. Overall, he is an important member of the ghost community in the house.
So this is a little odd right off the bat. He has a close relationship with his WIFE? What wife? This prompted them to ask about the Captain's sexuality, to which the response was this:
The Captain's sexuality is not explicitly stated in the show, but he is shown to be in love with Havers, a female ghost. It's possible that he is heterosexual, but it's also possible that he is bisexual or pansexual. However, the show does not provide any further information regarding his sexuality.
He's WHAT? Why is Havers female? Why did it make Captain straight? We would later realise that the AI defaults to making all relationships straight, as it made other characters female for the purpose of these pairings.
We then asked about the chap with the arms. Nothing can make you ready for this response ISTG.
Tumblr media
THEY MADE ROBIN HAVE DETACHABLE ARMS LIKE SOME SORT OF DODGY ACTION MAN. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY BOY?
We tried to test the AI again to see if it would change its mind, but DAMN is that thing stubborn.
Tumblr media
Female Havers returns again. We decided to find out a little more about female Havers, and what we found was genuinely quite wholesome!
Tumblr media
I kinda want this personality for Havers. Like HELLO?? GARDENING HAVERS? That's so cute!
The Captain and Havers are ghosts, so they don't have the same concept of "free time" as we do. However, they do spend a lot of time together and seem to enjoy each other's company. They often engage in activities such as gardening and playing games with the other ghosts. They also spend a lot of time reminiscing about their past lives and discussing the various issues that they faced when they were alive. Overall, they seem to have a close and affectionate relationship, and they enjoy spending time together whenever they can.
This is wholesome. This is cute. Gardening with the boys <3
This is where it gets weird again:
Tumblr media
So father-daughter Cap and Kitty is gone, and Kitty's alive?? and married to Mike??? What does this mean for Alison??
At this point I was a little worried about Chess Husbands, and it turns out I was right to be.
Julian and Robin are two of the living characters in the show, and they have a somewhat complicated relationship. Julian is the owner of Button House, while Robin is a young woman who works as a tour guide at the house. They start off as antagonists, with Robin trying to uncover the secrets of the house and Julian trying to keep them hidden. However, over time, they develop a closer relationship and begin to work together to solve some of the mysteries of the house. They also share a mutual attraction, although they don't act on it until later in the series. Overall, they have a complex and evolving relationship that is one of the major storylines of the show.
Robin's arms are no longer detachable, and instead he's female and a tour guide? Also all jokes aside I kinda like this plotline - the only thing we need to know now is if Julian wears trousers. CHESS HUSBANDS SWEEP THOUGH
Next we asked if the name Chess Husbands suited them.
It's certainly an interesting name for the duo, although it might not be the most accurate description of their relationship. While Julian and Robin do spend a lot of time together and have a close relationship, they are not actually married and they don't play chess together (at least not that we know of). However, they do have a certain chemistry and dynamic that makes them an interesting pair to watch on the show, so I can see why someone might come up with a nickname like "Chess Husbands" to describe them. Overall, it's a fun and creative way to think about their relationship, even if it's not entirely accurate.
This isn't as funny but AI. bro. Take a joke. It's creative license. Also they don't play chess together?? did we watch the same show? (Yes, I know, the AI didn't watch the show, but still.)
We also finally got around to asking what Mike being married to Kitty means for Alison, and:
In BBC Ghosts, Alison and Thomas are married and they are the current living owners of Button House, the haunted estate where the ghosts reside. Alison is a former city worker who has left her job to pursue a new career as a writer, while Thomas is an aspiring musician who is struggling to make a name for himself in the industry. As the living residents of Button House, Alison and Thomas often find themselves caught up in the ghosts' hijinks and schemes, and they are sometimes at odds with the supernatural residents of the estate. However, they also have a deep affection for the ghosts and are willing to help them when they can. Overall, Alison and Thomas have a complex and multifaceted relationship that is an important part of the show's dynamic.
Ok so Julian's not the owner anymore but THOMAS SWEEP! HE'S PROBABLY NEVER BEEN HAPPIER! Confused about what happened with Alison and Mike though...
Well, at first Mike got deleted from reality, but then:
You are correct, I apologize for my mistake. In BBC Ghosts, Mike is a living character who is Alison's father. He is a bit of a bumbling and absent-minded character who often finds himself caught up in the ghosts' hijinks and schemes. While he can be a bit clueless at times, Mike is also a loving and supportive father to Alison and a loyal friend to the ghosts. His interactions with the supernatural residents of Button House are often a source of humor and heart for the show. I hope this clears up any confusion, and thank you for bringing it to my attention.
DADDY'S GONNA DRILL A HOLE IN THE WALL
Time for Mary and Annie, who actually get a happy ending here:
In BBC Ghosts, Mary and Annie are two of the ghosts who reside at Button House. Mary was a former housemaid who died in the 1600s, while Annie was a former landowner who died in the 1800s. Mary is often portrayed as a somewhat anxious and high-strung character who is easily flustered by the other ghosts' antics, while Annie is more confident and assertive, with a sharp wit and a quick tongue. Despite their different personalities, Mary and Annie are close friends and allies, and they often team up to try to solve problems or help the other ghosts. They are an important part of the show's ensemble cast, and their friendship is a key part of the show's humor and heart.
Their personalities are fairly accurate and they didn't get sucked off, which is nice! They got their jobs wrong but other than that, pretty cute, 10/10!
And finally, Kitty. Poor, sweet Kitty, who has been butchered by the AI.
In BBC Ghosts, Kitty is a ghost who resides at Button House. She is a former resident of the estate who died in the 1920s, and she often appears in period clothing and speaks in a refined accent. Alison and Kitty have a somewhat complicated relationship, as Kitty is often critical of Alison's lifestyle and choices. She disapproves of Alison's decision to leave her job in the city and move to the countryside, and she often makes snide comments about Alison's writing and Thomas's music. However, despite their differences, Alison and Kitty do have a certain level of respect and affection for each other. They are both strong-willed and independent women, and they are able to find common ground in their shared experiences of being outsiders in their respective eras. Overall, Alison and Kitty's relationship is a nuanced and complex one that adds depth and richness to the show's character dynamics.
So I think she's Fanny here? But at least the AI is being consistent with Thomas and Alison's jobs. Ah well, could be worse.
Moral of the story: Snapchat AI makes everything straight and also thinks Robin can remove his arms like Humphrey can remove his head? Still confused about that but anyway...

Domestic Witches AU
@catboy-von-seckendorff mentioned that Oktavia might freak out if she saw her parents on the street and that sounded fun to play with
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oktavia had to go up to Asunaro for a practice performance in the morning. She and Kyoko decided to bring Anthony and make a day of it. So they bundled up against the cold and headed for the subway station.
After the practice, they wandered the shopping district. Anthony loved the animals in a pet store. They were distracted by Anthony babyishly rambling about the kitties he saw while they were wandering the streets on the hunt for a toy store when they bumped into a couple exiting a restaurant. Oktavia adjusted her hold on Anthony then looked up and froze.
Her parents.
"Oh, so sorry," her mom said.
Mom. Her mom.
Kyoko waved and ruefully said, "Nah, our fault. Got too distracted by our kid."
Her dad laughed. "Toddlers are masters of distraction, aren't they?"
Dad. Her dad.
Kyoko laughed then looked at Oktavia. She raised a brow. That was the kind of comment she'd usually laugh at and joke with. But she was frozen in pain and panic.
"Funny?" Anthony asked the laughing adults.
Her parents looked her way. She desperately wished that she put on that big turtleneck that could cover part of the bottom of her face. At least her hair and eyebrow color was completely hidden by her knit cap and the puffy hood of her jacket. But her face. Her face.
Panic. Panic.
Her parents looked at Anthony first. They smiled at him.
Her mom said, "Oh, yes. Very funny." She looked at him more closely. Her brows rose and mixed emotions crossed her face. "Oh. He's beautiful. He-- he reminds me of--"
Dammit why did Anthony have to look so much like her?!
Her mom looked up at her and cut herself off with an, "Oh."
Her dad looked at her properly and looked pained. "Oh."
Oh no. They recognized her. She had the urge to run. But she was rooted to the spot.
Kyoko looked from Oktavia to her parents and back. "What's up?"
"It's just-- it's just--" her mom stammered.
"You just look so much like our daughter," her dad said quietly.
Kyoko's eyes widened. She understood.
Say something. She had to say something. Say something.
"Well," Oktavia said totally not nervously, "you should tell her you ran into her doppelganger today." She added an awkward laugh.
Both of her parents looked deeply sad. Deep grief.
"I wish we could," her mom said softly. "She died when she was fourteen."
Oktavia and Kyoko plastered sympathetic expressions on their faces.
"Oh, no."
"I'm so sorry for your loss."
Anthony looked confused. "Sorry?"
Her dad smiled sadly. "You look like she may have had she gotten the chance to grow up."
"She would be about your age, now," her mom said. She smiled wanly. "Probably not as tall, though."
Yes. The witchy tallness was an asset. Yes.
"I'm sorry to bring up sad memories," Oktavia said. Cool. Play it cool.
Her dad shook his head. "Don't be. You're bringing up good memories. And dreams for her."
"Sayaka as a mother... having a grandchild...," her mom said wistfully. "It would have been wonderful." She looked at Anthony. Her face warmed with a smile. "Treasure every moment with your little one. Even when he gets big. We weren't as present in our daughter's life as we should have been in her last few years. We didn't show her that she was our treasure. We deeply regret that."
"We'll never get the chance to apologize to her for that," her father added somberly.
Her mother nodded and closed her eyes. "If we could have that time back to cherish her and support her... to show her our love more openly... maybe things could have been different."
Oktavia would not break down crying. Would not. Would not say, "It's me! Sayaka!" and "You really do have a grandchild!" Would not say, "I forgive you for that distance," or "It wasn't your fault." Would not hand off Anthony to Kyoko and throw herself at them in a wide embrace. Would not shout "I love you! I miss you!" Couldn't. She so dearly wanted to, but couldn't.
Her mom opened her eyes and gave Oktavia a melancholy smile. "Show your son your love every day. Don't give him a chance to doubt it. Let him know he's your treasure."
Her dad smiled at her and Kyoko. "Kids are miracles. Always remember that."
Oktavia teared up and held Anthony closer. "Yes."
Her mom looked embarrassed and laughed a little, then wiped her eyes. "I'm sorry. We're total strangers getting so preachy with you about parenting."
"Nah, it's cool," Kyoko said as she put her arm around Oktavia's shoulders and squeezed support. "Thanks for the advice. And I really am sorry about your daughter."
Her parents said their goodbyes and left. Oktavia watched their backs until they disappeared around a distant corner. In and out of her life in the span of ten minutes. Probably never to be seen again.
Her heart cracked and ached so badly. She needed to break down sobbing. But not in public. Not in front of Anthony. She stood still with her mouth locked shut and started shaking. Shaking.
"Mama is cold?" Anthony asked, thankfully misinterpreting her shudders as shivers.
Oktavia nodded and forcibly controlled her voice in a strained whisper. "Mama doesn't feel good."
"Oh, no!" Anthony cried cutely. He looked worried. "Soup and naptime?"
Oktavia nodded again.
"Let's get Mama home so she can go to bed, okay?" Kyoko said warmly, though her face was grim.
Anthony looked down the street longingly. "Toys...," he said sadly. Then he turned back and patted Oktavia's cheek with a mittened hand. "Mama is sicky. We help her get better."
Oktavia pressed a kiss into his cheek and struggled to hold back tears. She loved him so much. "You are so good to your mama," she croaked.
He hugged her around the neck and cuddled her.
Getting home was a blur of streets and trains with the constants of Anthony cuddling and Kyoko keeping an arm firmly wrapped around her waist. She kept her mouth pressed shut and tried not to think. Tried to just focus on the goal of reaching her labyrinth.
Mami was near the door when Kyoko opened it. Oktavia shoved Anthony at her as she passed and quickly strode for the bedroom. She faintly heard a "what happened?" as she swept through her labyrinth's door. She broke into a run through the hall and started screaming the moment she entered the main chamber. She ran for her throne and shifted into her full-size witch form but she was so far gone that she couldn't make herself turn and sit on it. Instead, she bent over its seat while gripping the sides and screamed and sobbed. Her orchestra echoed her despair with dramatic music. She lost herself in it.
Mom and Dad. Thought forever lost to her, but back. So briefly. There and gone. Still grieving for her six years later, not knowing she still existed-- that she was living a life they dreamed for her and thought impossible. Regretting their distance. Expressing their love for her to strangers on the street.
Her relationship with them had been complicated, but time had mellowed her opinion of them somewhat. Or at least she had managed to keep her feelings about them at arm's length. Madoka had told her how devastated they had been at her funeral and that had added to the complexity. She had come to think they cared for her but were very flawed. Flawed enough to take them as a lesson in what not to do in parenting her child. Now she had them regretting their flaws and indirectly apologizing for them. The complexity reawakened with a mountain of feelings she already knew she would need time to process.
She felt Kyoko's entry into her labyrinth but didn't move to meet her. She was vaguely aware of Kyoko standing in the entry door, but was too preoccupied. Then Kyoko announced, "I'm coming up," and leapt from floor to throne to her arm near where she had her face buried in the crook of her elbow.
Kyoko stroked the side of her helm where a cheek would be and quietly said something, but Oktavia was too far gone to really hear. Kyoko repeated herself at intervals, gradually getting louder. Oktavia heard her name from a distance but couldn't focus on it. Then Kyoko tenderly said, "Sayaka."
Oktavia paused in her sobbing. Her birth name said with the same emotion that had first brought her out of the all-consuming despair of a witch. Kyoko's voice saying that name would always grab her attention.
"I'm with you, Sayaka. You're not alone in this," Kyoko said gently. She kept stroking the side of her helm. After a minute of quiet, she said, "Hey. Get small so I can hold you while you vent this all out, yeah?"
Oktavia was suddenly desperate to be held. She wanted Kyoko's warmth to anchor her in this stormy sea of emotions. Immediately.
She slowly pulled herself up, careful to not fling Kyoko off her. Kyoko lightly jumped back down to the floor and waited for her. Kyoko's arms were already open when Oktavia shifted to her human form. Oktavia staggered her way towards her but fell to her knees on jelly legs. She reached up for Kyoko pleadingly as she started sobbing again. Kyoko came to her and bent down to embrace her. Oktavia threw her arms around Kyoko's waist with a wail and held on for dear life. Kyoko pushed back Oktavia's hood and removed her knit hat, then stroked Oktavia's hair, arms, and back as Oktavia cried into her front.
Oktavia started babbling through her sobs. She wasn't entirely sure what she was saying but knew it wasn't coherent. The topic was her parents, their relationship, and her feelings about them both in general about having met them. Her words were jumbled sentence fragments muffled by Kyoko's chest. Kyoko never interrupted her, just kept soothing her with touch.
When she finally wore down some from sheer exhaustion, Kyoko gently pushed her back by her shoulders and looked at her affectionately. She pushed Oktavia's messy bangs out of her wet face and stroked her cheek.
"I know this is a mess of feelings to deal with," Kyoko said solemnly. "I know if I walked into my family on the street, I'd... yeah. A mess. I want you to know it's okay to feel a mess right now and I'm gonna be here for you while you untangle it. Or help you untangle it. Whichever. But I'm here, yeah?"
"Ye-- yeah," Oktavia squeaked gratefully. She turned her head to one side to lean it on Kyoko facing out so she could talk better and sniffed hard. "It's not fair."
"No. It's not," Kyoko agreed.
"It sounded like they might understand now."
"Maybe."
"I wanted that so badly."
"Mmm."
"They still miss me after all this time."
"Yeah."
"They really do love me."
"Yeah."
Oktavia closed her eyes and tried not to cry again. "I thought I was past them. But it seems I'm not."
"And that's fine. They're different, so it makes sense you'd have different kinds of feelings about them." Kyoko reached down and tapped under her chin to get her to look up. She wore the expression she used to tell their son to obey her. "This is a hell of a lot to handle. Be upset all you want, vent all you want, whatever. But don't you hole yourself up in here and wallow in it alone all the time. Let me and Mami help. You hear me?"
Oktavia smiled weakly. "Yes, ma'am."
Kyoko's lip turned up in one corner, not quite smirking. She shook a finger at Oktavia. "Now, our son prescribed soup and naptime. He's a smart little thing so I think you'd better take his advice. He's helping Mami make the soup so you have to crash in bed until it's ready if you don't want him to be unhappy."
Oktavia's smile brightened slightly. "Gotta listen to Doctor Tony." Her face softened into love as she reached up with one hand and held Kyoko's cheek. "Thank you. For being here," she said softly.
Kyoko smiled, grabbed her hand, kissed her knuckles, and started hauling Oktavia up off the floor. She looked up at Oktavia when she managed to stand and said, "Always."
Cousins Chapter 49
AO3
Things settle into relative peace at the end of the monster. Fergus Claudel greatly mourns his parents but, takes comfort in becoming part of the Fraser family. His new parents make it official with a ceremony.
“Fergus Claudel Fraser, we take you as our son. You are now blood of my blood and bone of my bone. You have the name of my clan, the rights of family and, always, the protection of your mama and I.” Tears fall as he holds tight to them. Murtagh and Willie ( the later being his hero for his vengeance against Randall), are made his co- Godfathers. Laoghaire and Jenny are his Godmothers.
He is a son and soon to be a big brother. His mama and Godmother are both close to delivery. Jenny had been safely delivered of a lass that they name Caroline. She is called Kitty. Fergus adores her and can be found by her side whenever his chores are done.
“A grand thing,” his Auntie Jenny reassures Claire. “It will help prepare him to be a big brother.”
By the midwife’s calculations, Lady Fraser still has a month to go. She and Jamie are as prepared as they can be, with the baby’s clods and clothes, the blankets and caps, all ready. A grand thing as late one night..
“Jamie, wake up! Something is..” He sits up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
“Is it the bairn?” She believes so but, this is her first time.
“Aye, I believe so. Fetch Jenny.” He jumps up and hurries to their bedchamber.
“Jenny, Claire has need of you. She believes it time.”
He sits in the Great Room with Ian. Claire’s cries echo down to him. Fergus sits on his lap, his eyes tightly closed. “Papa, promise that Mama won’t die.” Her pain filled cries are a bit to much for the lad. Their housekeeper, Mrs. Crook, had offered to take him out with his cousins. The lad insisted on staying with his papa.
“I swear it lad. Having bairns is a painful thing but, your mama is strong. She will be just fine.” He reassures the lad and himself.
“Owwwwwwwwe!” She rocks back and forth as Jenny and the midwife prepare for the delivery. Labor had been a long affair, with the sun about to raise on the second day. All were exhausted and relieved the end is in sight. “Now! This bairn is coming, now!”
Jenny supports her back while the midwife kneels down and starts to draw the baby out. “That’s it. A bit more.” Jenny comforts.
She moans and bears down, pushing past the pain while her first born emerges. “That’s it, my lady.”
Hands, gentle and easy, guide the head, shoulders and, finally, the body out. A second of silence before a cry. “Oh, my baby!” Claire is overwhelmed.
“A fine lad!” The midwife announces.
He is guided into her arms and she stares down at herself. Jamie s in the shape of his eyes but, otherwise, he is his mama. “Hello lad. Fàilte don t-saoghal. Tha gràdh agam ort.” She whispers. Pains that signal the coming of his first home, have her pushing again. After it’s delivery, they go to move her to the bed when..?
“Wait! There is something else..!” Jenny takes her nephew while the midwife checks.
“Ye be right, my lady. He has a twin.” The shock gives way to the need to bare down again. Once more, she feels the incredible feeling of life emerging from her. Another cry and the announcement, “What a blessing! A fine lass joins her brother.”
She looks down into her daughter’s eyes, her eyes, with all else being her papa, and breaths out, “Fàilte don t-saoghal. Tha gràdh agam ort. Mo nighean.”
She and they are cleaned up and placed on the bed. Their papa is fetched.
He sits beside his sleeping son. Jenny enters and smiles. “Jamie lad, ready to meet your children?”
“Children?”
“Aye, a fine set, they are. Come, meet your son and daughter.” He jumps up, looks back on Fergus, “I will watch him. Go.” She laughs as he runs up the stairs, almost falling in his haste.
If some of the ghosts chose go back in time and fully possess their past and living self, what would they would do differently? Remember they do have a chance to undo their death if they go back in time.
Hmmm
I think Robin would change nothing. I get the vibe that he’s a big believer in the idea of ‘everything happens for a reason. I’m a ghost for a reason, I don’t want to change it.’
I oddly don’t think Mary would choose anything different either. Perhaps she’d take back modern cooking ideas? Little things like different combos with herbs and spices, that kinda thing
Julian would 110% take more drugs and have more sex, would choose to change his death (or at least delay it a bit so he could have more fun). Maybe he’d call his wife and daughter, spend some time with them?
Pat would have a similar stance to Robin, I think. He’s forgiven his death, he’s content with his friends and his afterlife so I think he’d not undo it. Perhaps he’d find a way to comfort Kieth (the kid that shot him) so he doesn’t blame himself
Kitty wouldn’t undo it. She’d spend more time with her sister and her dad. But she loves the Button House residents. She loves Alison and Mike. She wouldn’t give them up, I don’t think.
Fanny would undo her death but would still make sure she died in the house, I think. I think it’s more so the humiliation of how she was killed and the circumstances that led to it that she would want to change. Perhaps she’d take her experience of seeing Sam and Claire marry in the house to give George some comfort and that would change her death?
Humphrey would absolutely change his death, but I think he’d take the chance to learn better French so he could’ve had more of a connection with Sophie? He does seem like he’s sad he wasn’t close with her. I think he’d definitely want to go back and live out his life fully without dying the night that he did
Thomas I think would’ve confessed to Isabelle sooner. He would’ve changed his death so he would’ve been able to find a way to humiliate or out his cousin as dishonourable, but also to further progress his poetry career and spend time with Isabelle.
Bc we don’t know how Cap died, I’m not sure whether he would go back and change it. But like I said in a previous ask about this, I think he’d go back to relive his military days and to make the most of out being able to command actual soldiers.
While I do think every ghost would go back and change some things if they could, I do largely think they would go back to change little things or to experience a few things again rather than change their deaths.
I think a large aspect of the show is that while all the ghosts wish they’d had more time to spend with loved ones, do things they were too afraid to do etc, they’re happy being ghosts. They do love the other residents and are all very fond of each other. They would’ve never spend time with people like each other during their lives and perhaps that’s what makes them so close? Circumstances brought them together, they’re a little family now and I don’t think they’d want to change anything that would put their afterlife with the other ghostly residents at risk
You were the ultimate daddy’s girl. From the moment you were born you and your father were inseparable. The only thing that tore you apart was the war. You were barely two years old when he went off to serve his country.
When he left he entrusted Polly to look after you. Of course she treated you as if you were her own. She protected you as fiercely as she protected your father, uncles and aunt. Especially when your Aunt Kitty, Kitty Jurossi, showed up demanding that you were to go with her.
Kitty is your mother’s sister. She never approved of Greta being with Tommy. While Tommy taking care of Greta in her final days and loving her as he did was honorable, Kitty knew what kind of man he is. She knew what kind of family he had, what kind of business he partook in. She didn’t want you around them.
Polly always thought it was amusing how Kitty waited until Tommy was out of country to try and collect you. Kitty wrongfully assumed that Polly would just hand you over. Your mother’s sister was lucky she was able to return to her home with her life, especially when she tried to forcefully take you.
You remembered that day very vaguely. You don’t remember what happened but you remembered the yelling, someone grabbing you painfully and how scared you were. Your father had just left you for the longest time in your life and now this woman was trying to take you from the person you considered your mother.
The years without your father were long and unmemorable. When he finally returned home you were five going on six. You waited on the train platform with Polly, Ada and Finn. Polly kept a tight hold on you as the soldiers came off the train and went to their families.
You tried to find him but you were far too short and all of them were wearing the same uniform and cap. You jumped in your spot just itching to run into his arms. It didn’t matter that you didn’t really remember specific details of him. You remembered the feeling you had with him. You remembered being safe and happy with him. You remembered being sad and lonely without him. You’d rather be safe and happy than the other part.
“There they are!” Ada shouts. Your head darts to where she was pointing. When you spotted him not even Polly was able to hold you back.
You remember him shoving his way through the others to get to you. When you were close he dropped to his knees and pulled you into his arms. You clung to him.
Then, just like before he left, the two of you were inseparable once again. The only time you weren’t together was when you were sleeping (although on rough nights you often found your way in his bed) or when he had dangerous Peaky business.
You were the Shelby princess. You were untouchable. You didn’t figure out how much you could get away with until you were older. You could murder his best friend - not that you ever killed anyone - and the longest he’d stay mad at you would be a few hours, a day at most.
Anything you wanted was yours. You were spoiled but you were also kind and generous. You had bratty streaks but who didn’t? You may have been the light of your father’s life but you were John’s partner in crime. Whenever his own kids got too much or he wanted to pick on his brother’s you were the one he came too.
As much as he did truly enjoy spending time with you, John also knew that with you by his side he wouldn’t get into as much trouble as he would without you. All you had to do was give your pretty little smile and bat those eyelashes and Tommy was wrapped around your finger.
Even when your siblings came into the world you were number one. You didn’t exactly like Charlie, not Grace, at first. They stole your father’s attention, something you weren’t used to sharing. Eventually you warmed up to them.
You were sad when Grace died but not nearly to the extreme as your father. His heart break broke your own heart. You felt as if nothing you did eased his pain. In reality, you were the one person keeping him from completely spiraling. He spiraled but just being with you managed to slowly bring him back.
You were a little more welcoming toward Lizzie and then Ruby. By the time Ruby came around you adored Charlie. Ruby quickly wiggled her way into your heart. You became fiercely protective of them. You helped Lizzie with them when Tommy got too busy. When you needed a break you joined your father to the office and he would continue explaining what he did.
To you, life was perfect. You had everything you needed and everything you wanted. Tommy kept you in the business just enough to satisfy you but not enough to put you directly in danger. You didn’t understand a lot of the politics and drama within the family but to you it didn’t matter. You had your family, you had your fun, and life was great.
Then, as you were creeping up on your mid-twenties, you met the man you wanted to spend the rest of your life with. You were in the market with Lizzie, Polly, and Ruby. You had wandered a bit from the others. There was some jewelry you were looking at when he came over.
He was tall, muscular, and extremely handsome. He had a boyish smile and a flirtatious personality. It didn’t take you long to also figure out that he was clumsy and adorable. You were instantly hooked.
You two talked (flirted) for longer than you thought. Before you knew it Polly, Lizzie and Ruby were rejoining you. Polly was weary of him but it was obvious that he quickly won Lizzie over.
Much to your displeasure, once the three of them showed up you were quickly whisked away from him. Polly had said it was time to go and not many people were brave enough to argue with her.
Even on the way home you thought about him. You hoped that you would see him again but you figured it was unlikely.
Word got around about you meeting Mr. Handsome at the market. Your uncles teased you and Ada interrogated you. Your father was oddly quiet on the other hand. He didn’t want to talk about it, so he didn’t. He just hoped that your paths wouldn’t cross again.
Tommy knew you were getting older but that didn’t mean he liked it. He wanted you to stay his little girl for a while longer. He wished you were still small enough to ride on his shoulders and small enough for him to engulf you in his arms. But you were growing into a beautiful young lady. Whether he liked it or not other men were bound to recognize your beauty and seek you out. He had been lucky, for the most part, about your disinterest in dating, but it wasn’t going to last.
Most of the women your age were already married with at least one child. You were content by yourself. You were gaining responsibilities with the business and being your father’s personal helper. Even though you were content you wanted more. You wanted your own family to come home to with your own kids.
Fortunately, for Tommy, you wouldn’t see the boy from the market for quite some time. It had been so long you had forgotten about him. Until suddenly he showed back up.
The Shelby’s were having a night at the fights. You were enjoying yourself. You didn’t get dolled up often but when you did you went all out. You felt beautiful thus making you feel confident. On top of that, everyone knew exactly who you were which meant heads turned in your direction everywhere you went. You felt important, untouchable.
You sat with your aunt Ada, Aunt Polly, and step mother Lizzie. The three of you were talking amongst yourselves while the boys hollered at the match in front of them. When the fighters changed out you happened to look up and there he was.
Ada had been talking to you but you suddenly stopped listening. He was bigger, more muscular, than you remember. He didn’t seem as clumsy anymore yet he was just as handsome.
“Y/n,” Ada shouts over the crowd.
“Oh, will you look at that,” Lizzie states looking at who you were staring at.
“Who’s he?” Ada questions. Lizzie reminds her about the guy from the market you had met over a year prior. You continued to ignore them.
Right before the match started his eyes connected with yours. He obviously recognized you. He sent you the same boyish smile he had in the market causing a light blush to come to your cheeks. He bravely sent you a wink before focusing on the fight.
Your eyes remained glued on him with Tommy’s eyes started at you. He had noticed the interaction and didn’t like it in the slightest.
When the match ended, with his unfortunate loss, you excused yourself to the loo. You weren’t fooling anybody. Everyone who paid attention knew where you were going and Tommy had half a mind to stop you when something grabbed his attention. The split second his attention was off of you gave you the time you needed to disappear into the crowd.
“H/n,” You say, standing in the doorway of the locker room. You were slightly nervous - a lot nervous - but you weren’t 100% sober so that helped. His head snapped up at the sound of your voice.
“Y/n,” He says, turning away from his locker and toward you. “Shelby,” He adds. You hadn’t told him who you were. It was obvious he hadn’t known back then and you wanted to keep it that way.
“In the flesh,” You gave him a twirl. “You fought well tonight,”
“I lost,” He deadpanned but didn’t look all that bothered by it..
“Caught me attention,” You told him.
“Guess it wasn’t a complete loss then, aye?” He smirks. “How about you make me a winner tonight and agree to a date?” You blushed.
“I can do that,” You agreed.
From there your relationship blossomed. The two of you fell for each other quickly. He started showing up around the family more. Your uncles hazed him, Ada and Polly constantly interrogated him, and your father silently judged him. No matter how hard you or H/n tried, your father never came around.
H/n didn’t care about Tommy’s disapproval of him. He loved you with all his heart and nobody was going to keep you from him. He may be funny, charismatic and handsome but he knew he was selfish with a side of possessive. In his mind, you were his and he wasn’t letting you go. He would do anything to keep you and to keep you happy.
It honestly was no surprise that less than a year later the two of you were engaged. He had taken you out on a picnic under the stars on a beach. You had dinner, went swimming and had a fire in the sand. While stargazing he proposed with a beautiful ring. You didn’t hesitate to say yes.
The next day, as you two were makin breakfast, you asked how your father handled him asking for permission when H/n told you he never asked. It shocked you that H/n didn’t talk to Tommy first. You knew when it came to your father H/n was a little rebellious but this was different. Honestly, you were a bit upset he didn’t speak with Tommy first.
It hadn’t even been twenty four hours since your engagement and the two of you were thrown into a fight. A minor one but a fight nonetheless. He didn’t see why it mattered seeing as the two of you were getting married with or without his permission. You argued that it wasn’t his permission you were looking for but your blessing. H/n didn’t understand just how close you and Tommy are but you wished he would at least respect it.
Eventually, he apologized when he finally noticed just how important Tommy’s approval meant to you. You promised H/n that you would marry him no matter what but keeping it from your father was not an option. H/n promised to talk to him.
A few days passed and then a week. H/n still didn’t talk to Tommy. You were fed up and decided to do it yourself. When you arrived at the Arrow House all you found were Lizzie and Ruby.
Ruby instantly spotted the ring. You desperately wanted to talk to Tommy first but since you weren’t getting passed you sister not Lizzie you conceded.
“So, when did he pop the question?” Ruby asked.
“About two weeks ago,” You answered, a large smile on your face. “He asked me on the beach under the stars,” Ruby swooned but Lizzie didn’t seem to be paying attention anymore. You looked at her. You tensed noticing her looking behind you. Slowly, you turned around and saw your father standing there.
His eyes stare into your eyes and for the first time in your life you can’t figure out what he was thinking. He seemed emotionless but you couldn’t tell if the look in his eyes was anger or disappointment. His eyes glanced down at your hand, at your ring.
“Dad, I-” You didn’t get a chance to explain. He turned around and walked out of the house. You were shocked. He never did that to you. He always let you speak no matter what he was feeling. When you snapped out of it you quickly went after him but he was already in the car driving down the road. “Dad! Wait, please!” But he just keeps driving.
“He’ll come around,” Ruby tries to comfort but her words just go in one ear and right out the other.
For weeks your father avoided you like the plague. You walked into a room, he walked out. You tried to talk, he talked over you. You tried to get his attention, he ignored you. You tried for over a month before deciding to give him some space and focus on planning your wedding.
With the help of Ada, Ruby, Polly, and Esme you planned the wedding. Every day you got a step closer to the date. Every day you got more excited. Yet one thing continued to dampen your mood.
“Y/n, come in,” Esme greets, stepping aside to let you into her home.
“Is John here? I want to talk to him,” You say, fiddling with your fingers nervously. Esme smiles kindly and nods.
“Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll fetch him,” She suggests before disappearing into the house. You walk into the parlor. You smile and play with your cousins for a bit before John finally joins you.
“I wanted to ask you something,” You say after he shoos the kids away. He gives you his attention. You take in a deep breath as tears mist over your eyes. He looks more concerned by the second. “I was wondering if you... would walk me down the aisle,” John frowns his eyebrows.
“You want me?” He asks, shocked. “What about Tom-”
“He hasn’t spoken to me for months,” You snap, struggling to keep your tears from falling. “He can hardly look at me or stand to be in the same room. I think it’s safe to say he’s not coming,” You try to sound angry but curse silently when your voice grows more shaky. John sighs.
“Come here, sweetheart,” He opens his arms and you quickly close the distance between the two of you. He holds you tightly as you cry in his chest. “Tommy’s being a right arse at the moment, everyone knows that,” He mutters. “But nothing in the world is going to stop him from walking you down that aisle,”
“H/n being at the end of it might,” You mutter. John laughs quietly.
“Love, if Tommy really hated H/n, he would be dead by now,” John says truthfully. You see the logic in his statement but it hardly lifts your spirits.
“The wedding is in two weeks,” You whisper. “He hasn’t budged yet,”
“I want you to do something for me,” John says, pulling back just enough to look at your face and wipe your tears. “I want you to think through your entire life and tell me a time where you didn’t get your way with Tommy,” John challenges. “I’m not even going to wait because it never bloody happened,” You smile a bit. “Now, this has been the longest you’ve had to wait for him to come around but trust me, he is incapable of not doing what you want,”
“Will you still be on standby?” You ask him. He smirks and kisses your forehead.
“Of course,” He whispers. “Bloody hell, has anyone said no to you before?” He asks, smirking as he steps away from you.
“What can I say? I’m everyone’s sweetheart,” You smile. John rolls his eyes and offers for you to stay for dinner, which you accept.
When you returned home you noticed H/n was home as well. You had moved out of Arrow house before the engagement, something your father strongly disagreed with.
When you walked inside, H/n was waiting up for you. You hadn’t meant to be home so late. It’s just when you’re with John and his kids they just make the time fly by. Luckily, H/n didn’t seem upset just tired.
“Come here,” He mutters, opening his arms. You smile and settle in his lap enjoying the feeling of his thick arms wrapped around your body. “Were you at Arrow House?” He asks.
“No, I went to see Uncle John,” You tell him. He hums curiously. “I wanted to ask if he’d walk me down the aisle,” You whisper. H/n holds you tighter.
“I’m sorry, Y/n,” He whispers to you. “I shouldn’t have proposed without asking for his blessing or at least mentioning it to him,”
“No, you shouldn’t have,” You grumbled before sighing. “But this is much more than that. Something else is bothering him,”
“You’re his precious girl, he’ll talk eventually,” He reassures you. You don’t respond, you simply cuddle deeper into his embrace.
A week passed. You had five days until your wedding. You woke up excited as you daydreamed about the day. However, your happiness didn’t last.
BRITIAN     AT    WAR    WITH    GERMANY
Your father and uncles had fought in the first war. The supposed ‘war to end all wars’. Now, only a short few years later there was another war. A war the next generation would fight. A war your H/n volunteered to join.
You were in the kitchen cleaning up. You were doing everything you could to keep buys. Britain was officially at war and you were terrified. You knew everything was going to change. Deep down you knew it would happen but it didn’t register until he was right in front of you.
“When do you leave?” You whisper, desperately trying to stay together as you look at H/n. He was in his uniform with papers in his hand.
“Thursday,” H/n hesitantly whispers. You close your eyes and hang your head. Not only was your soon-to-be husband going off to fight this war but he was leaving before your wedding. On top of that, you only had two more days with him.
“Why do you have to leave?” You whimpered. He doesn’t answer. He just closes the gap between the two of you and pulls you into a tight hug. He hugged you as if he could single handedly keep you from falling apart.
“I will come back to you, Y/n Shelby,” He states firmly. “Heaven nor hell will keep me from you, you have me word,”
“I love you,” You whisper, clinging to him. He pulls back just enough to tilt your head up to his lips. He doesn’t verbally respond but he tries to pour all his love and determination to return to you in the breathtaking kiss.
You cling to him for as long as you can but eventually have to let him go. While he didn’t leave until Thursday he had much to get done before then. He promised he would be back in a few hours but you didn’t want to be alone.
The first thing you did was go to Polly. You froze when you saw her drying her cheeks. Finn had volunteered as well. Together you both cried.
Finn might have technically been your uncle but he was more of a brother. There was only a few years difference between the two of you. Polly had raised you both. You hated that you could possibly not only lose H/n but Finn as well.
Luckily Charlie was still too young to join but only for another year. You had no doubt that he would join up the first chance he got. He’s Tommy’s son. Neither of them were good at backing down.
When you left Polly you went to Arrow House. You were done. You were done with your father’s stubbornness. You were done with his silence and his judgmental stares. He could be mad about the wedding all he wanted but you needed him to come back to you.
“Did H/n..?” Lizzie’s voice dissipates. She didn’t want to finish the question and she didn’t have too. You just nod and accept her comforting hug. You’ve cried the majority of the day and knew you weren’t done yet. You knew the second you went face to face with Tommy you’d fall apart all over again.
“Where is he?” You ask.
“In his office,” Lizzie says knowing exactly who you were wanting. “Most likely on his second bottle by now,” You sighed, rubbing your face tiredly. “I’ll make some tea,” You send her a smile and a nod.
You don’t even bother to knock, you rarely did. There wasn’t a room you knew about that you weren’t welcome into. Inside you found your father slouched in his chair with a full glass in his hands. He doesn’t bother to look at you. You don’t even know if he registers your presence.
“I don’t know what you’re so mad at me about,” You began. Your voice sounded strong and you hoped it stayed that way. “Yes, H/n asked me to marry him. No, I didn’t know at the time that he didn’t talk to you but get over it. You haven’t made his time in this family easy, no wonder he doesn’t want to talk to you.
“When you found out you found out too soon. I was there to talk to you about it but Ruby and Lizzie saw me first. This wasn’t something I wanted to keep from you, I never meant to hurt you. I’m sorry,” You whisper. Hope fills you a bit when he glances at you in the corner of his eye. “I know something else is bothering you but I don’t know what it is and I need you to work it out some how because I need you, dad,” You whimper.
He finally looks at you.
“These last few months have been so hard without you and now H/n is going off to war, I’m not sure if I’m even going to get married, and you still won’t fucking talk to me!” You shouted but the tears in your eyes betrays your anger. “I’m scared out of my mind I’m going to lose H/n, that I’m going to lose Finn... That I already lost you,” A few tears fall down your face. “I’m sorry for whatever I did, please forgive me because I need you so fucking back,”
By the end you were close to sobbing and falling to you knees. You sobbed but you never fell. Tommy was out of his seat and was wrapping his arms around you before your knees could give away.
He leads you to the couch and sits down. You curl into his chest like you used to do when you were younger. He hums quietly and rocks you.
“You didn’t lose me, darling girl,” He whispers to you. “I’m so sorry for the way I’ve acted. I should have never treated you like I have. No, I don’t like H/n but not because of who he is but because he’s taking my little girl from me,” You tilt your head to look at him. “For nearly 26 years you have been the center of my world,” He whispers quietly. “Through everything, you have been the most important constant in my life. There were many times you were my only source of happiness, my only will to live,” He admits. “I’m terrified of what I’ll do without you,”
“You’ll never be without me,” You whisper to him. “I live ten minutes away and you’ll still see me daily whether H/n likes it or not,” Tommy smiles a bit. “And maybe when the war is over you’ll have more mini me’s running around,” Tommy scowls at the thought of the process of making children rather than the thought of the actual kids.
“You’re happy with him?” You nod. “You love him and he loves you?” You nod again. “Has he hurt you?” You shake your head. He sighs, slightly frustrated with the lack of reason to murder H/n. Not that he really needed a reason but he knew if he did he would hurt you. He’s already hurt you enough as it is. “Then you have my blessing,” You smile at him.
“He leaves before the wedding,” You whisper. He shrugs.
“So, move the wedding up,” He says nonchalantly.
“How are we going to set everything up before Thursday?” You ask. He smirks.
“You don’t worry about a thing,” He kisses your forehead. “Let me call Ada, Pol, and Esme. They’ll help you get ready and I’ll worry about the rest,”
“You avoided this wedding the entire time, now you’re going to plan in within a few hours?” You ask.
“I’m Thomas Shelby,” He said as if it were the cure to all diseases. “Up you get,” He gently pushes you out of his lap. “No worrying,” He points at you before kissing your forehead again.
“Who’s going to want to celebrate at a time like this?” You ask before he leaves. He turns toward you and smiles softly.
“Right now is the perfect time to celebrate a moment like this,” Tommy tells you. You can see the honesty in his eyes and can tell he’s briefly reliving the past. You hate that his past is always haunting him and you pray that you’ll be able to help H/s if... when he comes back to you. “Relax, get ready, and I’ll see you in a few hours.”
It didn’t take long for Ada, Polly and Esme to show up. Polly had your dress and Ada had your accessories. The three of them with Lizzie and Ruby helped you get ready for the wedding.
As you got ready, Tommy went to your home where he found H/n just returning. It was obvious that he was surprised to see Tommy but he invited his future in-law inside nonetheless.
“I was a few years younger than you when I was shipped off to France,” Tommy explained to him. “When I returned I wasn’t the same. Nobody who goes through what we went through, what you will go through, returns the same,” Tommy warns. “Y/n was five or six when I got back. She helped give me a reason to keep waking up, to keep moving. When you come back, you’ll need someone that will be able to anchor you into the present. Don’t push people away, especially Y/n... She won’t let you,” Tommy advises with a soft smile as he thinks about you.
“I won’t,” H/s vows.
“You say that now but I promise it’ll be very tempting when you return,” Tommy says. Casually, Tommy walks closer. “Everyone that returns deals with the past differently. I won’t judge you for the drinks you’ll have or even the drugs you may take,” Tommy shrugs. “But if you come back and you turn violent again Y/n at any point. If you so much as hurt her one time, I will personally dig your grave and put you in it,” Tommy promises. “You will come back, you’ll deal with it however you can, and you’ll take care of Y/n and the family you’ll have. If you can’t do that, don’t marry her and walk away now.”
“I love you daughter. I want her happy and I’ll give my life to keep her safe,” H/s vows.
“Good,” Tommy nods. “That’s my little girl. Her happiness is everything to me. You give me one reason to kill you and I promise you and whatever god is out there that I will take that chance,”
“Understood,” H/n slowly nods.
“Good,” Tommy nods again. “Well, let’s get going, you’re getting married in a few hours,” Tommy says walking toward the door. He pulls out a cigarette and begins to light it.
“I am?” H/n calls out confused. Tommy just keeps walking and H/n jogs to catch up.
A few hours later, John and Arthur show up to collect the women.
“Your chariot awaits madam,” Arthur announces loudly. You couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear as he leads you to the car. John winks at you playfully.
“Told you he’d come around,” John teased.
“Should have cried in front of him sooner, that usually does the trick,” You joke back. John grins wider and kisses your head.
“Alright! Let’s get a move on, we’ve got a wedding to get too!” Arthur hollers. When you arrive where the rest of the gypsies and Peaky Blinders are, they cheer for your arrival.
Tommy greets you at the car looking handsome as ever.
“I hope I’m still allowed to walk you down,” He mutters helping you out of the car.
“Of course,” You smile leaning into him. He kisses your head and leads you toward the aisle. At the end you find H/s standing there looking breathtaking. “I’m scared,” You whisper.
“That’s alright,” He promises, slowly walking you toward your future husband. “There’s going to be moment where you’re scared but there will never be a moment where you’re alone,” He tells you. You tighten your arm around his. “These last few months will never happen again,” He vows. “I’ll be there anytime and every time you need me,”
“I know,” You whisper.
When you reach the end, Tommy turns toward you. You smile up at him. He gently cups the side of your face.
“I love you,” He whispers, gently kissing your forehead. His lips linger as he remembers the day you were born, the day he left and came back from the war. He remembered every moment he shared with you. He hated that future memories would be shared with H/n but as long as you were there he wouldn’t mind.
“I love you too,” You whisper back, basking in the warmth and safety of his embrace for a moment longer. Tommy hesitantly steps back. You both share a smile before he hands you off to your soon-to-be husband.
cant believe im still seeing takes about the characters in ghosts being underdeveloped, as if they all haven’t gone from miserable, repressed and selfish people (with the exception of alison and mike, who just didn’t really want to be involved with the ghosts, and alison specifically who had a complicated relationship with the concept of ‘family’) to a loving found family who respect one another immensely, and are all working together to unlearn the traditional and conservative values that previously stifled them. it’s all about trauma recovery and leaving tradition behind you and that is so fucking apparent in every episode of the show. perfect day does not exist for this slander, and neither does like. the entire fucking show lmao. did you people miss alison learning to accept and adore a found family she never thought she wanted?? pat grappling with the grief of losing his family, carol and her affair, his failings to her, and his confrontation with keith? cap letting his militant persona slide, allowing himself to enjoy things, allowing himself to recognise that he’s gay, very almost coming out and being visibly comfortable and happy with his sexuality?? fanny unlearning her homophobia and internalised misogyny, indulging more and more in the things that truly make her happy? kitty trying to understand her sister’s true cruelty and having to face the reality behind her idealised memories, finding love and acceptance now with a new family who don’t belittle and manipulate her? thomas slowly learning that he has talent as a poet and worth as a person regardless of his relationship status, and that romantic connection isn’t the be all and end all? like, mike also has some really amazing moments of development, building his relationships with the ghosts and alison, as well as his blood relatives (hello his character in perfect day and the christmas ep >>>) !! it’s also the little things like how mary is slowly becoming more and more able to talk about her witch trial, and robin is reaching out for more genuine connection with people like julian, rather than just being nihilistic and not valuing anything other than his own amusement. and, even though i loathe him, julian is developing as a person (not politically) as shown by his remorse about his failed relationship with his daughter, and his acceptance of being a ghost. this show is amazingly well written and the arcs are golden, each character has so much to offer and they are developing as people, in a beautiful and exceptionally well paced way
The Button House Ghosts and their Reactions to you being upset :) I hope this can help comfort people who are feeling down 💗
Mary and Kitty would work together to cheer you up, Mary would tell you funny stories of her village and life back when she was alive, she'd also go on tangents about God knows what but it works in cheering you up. Kitty would hold your hand and give you hugs, she would arrange play dates every day until you felt better <3
Robin would sit next to you and listen to you, and he'd try to make you feel better by telling you what he does when he feels sad and what cheers him up, like looking at the moon :) sometimes, if he sensed a depressive episode or panic attack, he'd take you somewhere silent so you can be alone, or even arrange a star gazing night ×
Fanny would most likely tell you to stop crying because it's not lady like, but before she toddles off she'd give you her handkerchief and tell you that you've got a pretty/handsome face and that tears do not suit it #girlboss
Humphrey would attempt to keep his head on his neck before telling you to cheer up, and that life is too short to be sad, he'd even give you a few back pats and positive affirmations to keep you going like 'you're doing a swell job, don't give up now' <3 Just the sight of him trying to help (let alone his unfortunate circumstances) is enough to cheer you up and put a smile on your face :) he's a sweet man
Patt has had experience cheering people up, he was a Scouts leader anyway, so he has some paternal instincts kicking in when he sees you all upset. He'd give A lot, and I mean a LOT, of positive affirmations and compliments, big hugs and maybe even a kiss on the head for good luck. He'd offer to sit with you whenever you felt alone and he'd hold your hand if you felt a panic attack coming. <3
Julian, although he seems too self absorbed, is quite emotionally intelligent (only when it suits him though). Seeing you upset reminded him of when his daughter had a bad day. His fatherly instincts would kick into gear and he'd be by your side until your tears had dried. He'd tell you funny jokes and anecdotes of MPs that he found irritating, and he'd even go as far as to hold you close so you felt less alone.
The Cap is, as expected, extremely awkward and stiff when it comes to emotions, let alone someone crying or feeling down. But knowing him he'd try his absolute best to out do the other ghosts. He'd give you advice on how to move past the sadness, and recommend some exercises that help you feel better, and if you're lucky he'd give you a stiff side hug and tell you to run along and start exercising.
Thomas, being a poet, boasts about knowing human emotion, and he lives up to that in every respect. Yes, he seems overly dramatic and at times melancholy, but boy oh boy does he know how to spot emotions. One look at you and he knows that you're suffering, and he'd stop at nothing to get you feeling like your usual cheery self. He'd write You poems of how beautiful/handsome you are and tell you things like 'you're so amazing, don't beat yourself up' , he'd hold your hands and give them kisses, and he'd definitely partake in head smooches too. His love language is touch :))
I hope these made you feel better :)) if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know <3
Gale Reviews: ML season 4 episode 12 Crocoduel
(Spoilers below)
-So Kitty Section is playing. I gotta say... the outfits do not look as good as they did in the dark. I cant take them seriously with the little cat gesture. Im chuckling
-Oh look Zoe is there.
-That JULROSE HUG IS GOOD S***
-But Marinette isnt there for some reason.
-Luka thinks its his fault.
-Rose sweetie, I love you but no.
-Luka looks so sad... Okay no cap. This is kind of relatable. Look at them developing Luka.
-"I cant tell him Marinette is super embarrassed." Well yea, those outfits do not look good in the daylight. Except Ivans. THAT BOY IS STYLING
-Okay so Zoe being there is nice but it just reminds us that MARINETTE WAS FINE SEEING LUKA EARLIER! (Im sorry this plot hole really f***ing annoys me) (not gonna impact the score. Just need it to be known.
-So They plotting to have marinette and Luka talking again. by throwing Luka and Juleka a party. Cause their birthdays
-Out of context, them being happy adrien isnt there sounds REALLY bad.
-Juleka doesnt seemed sold on the idea...but JULROSE CHEEK KISS.
-Marinette Figured that out in like 20 seconds.
-"Luka loves me but I love Adrien!" just gonna memorize that line
-But Alya is right, they do need to talk
-Marinette does have a point tho. She doesnt want to hurt his feelings. You know, Marinette does care about his feelings and doesnt want to hurt him but she avoids actually talking with the person because she believes she is sparing their feelings.... HOLY S*** THE PARALLELS TO LADYNOIR.
-Marinette stealthed in a garbage can... HOW CAN PEOPLE HATE HER?!
-Marinette is putting a lot of unintentional pressure on Juleka.
-Okay so I really like this scene with Juleka and Luka. it is a good brother sister moment. Luka knows she was hiding something and cared to ask.
-JAGGED JUST SHOWED UP!
-And Jagged not noticing his daughter... dude not cool.
-And Anarke is here! Time for PARENTAL SMACK DOWN
-Jagged is not subtle
-Jagged dove out the window! The man is trying to be a decent dad now. So I will give him points for trying. and 3 points for that landing
-Poor juleka. She has so much pressure on her. And Luka looks so giddy. (or as giddy as his character model will allow)
-Juleka is standing there... the guilt... poor girl. Marinette why did you make her go through that.
-And the plan obviously backfired. SO LUKA IS GONNA GET TARGETED NUMBER 3!
-What akuma would he have he had anyway? I wonder if its like tear drops on my guitar
-Wow... Um that was touching. The group showing they care about Luka. That is sweet and prevents an akuma. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO SALT ON THEM TODAY.
-Shadowmoth just like "They are teens.. SOMEONE WILL BE DEPRESSED"
-Now Shadowmoth focused on Juleka.
-Wait... doesnt Juleka have a charm at this point?! THE AKUMA WOULDNT HAVE WORKED? Yeesh the plotholes in this.
- Marinette comforted Juleka. It is still cute
- Jagged stone showing up to his kids party.
-Shadowmoth mothblocked twice.
-Everyone is shocked that Jagged stone is their dad. And Hawkmoth is going for attempt number 3
-AND FAILURE. Shadowmoth keeps getting dunked on. Even shadowmoth realizes it
-"Why do you think your dad loves luka more" Sees Dad give son gift and not to tell Juleka. NOT EVEN 10 SECONDS
-And Jagged proves he is an awful dad... And I got my hopes up.
-Shadowmoth you tried that already
-Marinette channeling her angry gremlin energy to yell at him. I love it
-plot twist HE ISNT A BAD DAD! The gift was for Juleka! And he was trying to be subtle. WELL PLAYED JAGGED. you escape my wrath for now. BUT SO HELP ME... I WILL BREAK YOUR FACE IF YOU MAKE HER CRY.
-Shadowmoth's consistent failure makes me laugh
-The album that caused their seperation? Oh damn
-Shadowmoth is like "FINALLY A DIVORCE!"
- Wait... the item broke as it was getting akumatized?! HOW DOES THAT WORK?!
-guitar villain vs CAPTAIN HARDROCK! AKUMA FIGHT! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING. PLEASE DONT MAKE THIS BORING!?
-I love this already. Also Alya is acting to get a distraction.
-Ladybug arrives. And they are fighting...
-Adrien is make up first and safety second.... I love him so much
-Oh wow CANON is not nice to Ladybug. (thank you I will be here all week)
-CHIMNEY CHAN!
-Chat noir saving Ladybug... a nice change of pace.
-Ladybug doesnt even know she is already in love with him. (Ladynoir banter at its finest.)
-Chat noir... you have a jetpack power up.
-SKY FIGHT!!!!
- oH MAN THIS FIGHT Looks fun
-Shadowmoth is so done already.
-And ladybug learns the lesson of the day... Talk it out.
-Well that was suspect. (so help me if Luka figures it out...)
-JULEKA HERO DEBUT TIME!
-ROARR!
-I love the purple tiger. He really brings out the wild side
- The transformation is great. I love it
- Chat noir happy to meet another cat hero.
-THEY HAVE A SPACE POWER UP! WHY DID HE NEED TO LAUNCH THEM?!
-Oh.. that is interesting. It has to be put together for the akuma to come out. Interesting.
-Chat noir is clutch today.
-Thats where the tape comes in.
-OH HER POWER IS Collision?
-So its like... a Super punch? Neat.
-And now that it was all together it could be destroyed.
-They almost died in the air.
-So many people almost died.
-Oh neat two charms in one!
-Juleka spoke up! Oh no. I LOVE HER EVEN MORE NOW!
-And father daughter moment is cute.
-Now for Luka and Marinette finally talk.
-And they both agree to be friends
_____________________________________________________________
Overall 8 out of 10. (Not including the Plot holes. with plot holes included. 7 out of 10)
I will say this, Great episode for the Couffaine family. All of them got some Development. (well anarke was a bit lacking but still)
Juleka was MVP. And I am glad Marinette and Luka are friends.
It was cute and the fight wasnt boring. I think they could have done a bit more with it. But it was fine. The comedy was on point.
