why does nobody ever talk abt the parallels between swatch and alphys. Both have similar looking heads and wear glasses. Both created a neo suit for mettaton. Swatch literally looks like a handsome anime character and alphys LOVES that kinda shit. do you get what im saying

For reals tho, what do you think Mia would major in? She doesn't seem to be passionate about anything that isn't hero-related
THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION that I was also thinking about right after I saw your post! Honestly it’s tricky because you’re right, Mia is unfortunately a bit underdeveloped in terms of she has very limited story aspects outside of hero work.
Some options I’m thinking:
1. She could possibly go into the medical research field to help in HIV studies. This one is a bit ambitious though and it would require her to devote a LOT of time to schooling and not a lot of time to hero stuff.
2. Drama/Theater potentially. She seems like the type who would find herself really at home amongst passionate theater fans, on the stage or helping behind, creating sets, even being a playwright maybe!
3. Related to the first, but maybe instead of like straight up medical research, she would major in Health Studies or Health Anthropology, a subject that’s more inclined to the human aspect of medicine, and related to stigmas, discrimination, treatment, etc. I feel like this is a better fit for Mia actually.
4. Public law/policies. This is more cliche since I feel like I’ve seen Mia-esque characters go this route before, but given how much of her life happened because of a faulty messed up system, I could also see Mia prioritizing making changes. But with her tho, I feel like being a hero is her way of inspiring change, rather than being a lawyer. Also imagine Ollie’s reaction lmfao
5. Nutritional studies. Since Mia suffered through a nutritional and calorie deficit for most of her formative years, I feel like this is an important subject to her, even if she doesn’t express so.
In my opinion, I think she would major in health humanities and then minor in theater/drama!

I’ve seen so many photos from today of Lance and Fernando wearing like 20 different outfits each and I’ve officially lost the plot
LMAO god ikr its so confusing, it always makes me question if they're from different days even though I know they're all from one day. Basically I think they have a specific outfit for media days when they come into the paddock, and then they change into a probably more comfy outfit for after that. So you'll see like them wearing a more put together outfit(maybe it's also bcs sponsor requirements, bcs all of those special nando outfits are Boss.) And then the grand majority of pics are them wearing their typical team gear "uniform" for interviews, track walk, press conferences, etc.
Like I get why they change, but I always prefer Fernando's more dressy outfits </3 enough with the teamkit shirt!!!! Though it's cute that he's wearing the white sweatshirt in the pics from today 🥺🥺 its so big on him !!!

I guess I'm naive but I once again just don't understand how people can have so little compassion for vulnerable people, or that your response to someone asking for help or even just for some consideration of the accommodations they might need to basically be "too bad, the world is cruel, if you don't like it don't go outside." Like we can acknowledge that we can't snap our fingers and make the world a perfect place for everyone but what is the fucking point of everything if we're not even going to try??

escapist media in general is an ongoing fascination for me. media written with escapism as a main priority typically requires very little thought from the reader - the whole point is to kick back and live vicariously through a fun story, after all. they're narratives written to prioritize reader comfort.
but because they are written to be as unchallenging as possible, they often come with a set of underlying assumptions that can be just fucking fascinating to unpick. like yeah, why IS it assumed to be escapist and indulgent to enjoy colonial wealth without thinking about it in regency fiction. why IS the self inserty female protagonist, who is assumed to be as universally relatable as possible, written to be sweetly naive and sexually inexperienced. why does this "queernorm" contemporary world replicate patriarchial structures exactly but just with Gay People Allowed. why are these ideas assumed to be easy and comforting? can the writers not imagine anything better than the status quo but except maybe with more gay people and poc if you're lucky?
the fact of the matter is that "unchallenging" fiction tends to just simply replicate dominant cultural narratives as a point of comfort. we won't challenge the reader, so we won't think about the way we write certain things. everything we think of as comforting and safe are, of course, universal, and could not be founded on any harmful ideological assumptions. there is nobody who could be alienated by this.
and that's the sticking point to me, in terms of escapist fiction: it's always necessary to ask whose comfort is being prioritized. you've got to interrogate who gets to escape and the mechanisms by which that escape happens. escapism can be good and necessary to survive the current world, but it does not exist in a vacuum separate from the real world, even if it pretends it does!
