AAYYEE the 218th's Urban Crisis Response's very own Crisis Company as a revamped Draw the Squad!

after a year and a half worth of drawing practice, I like to think I've come a long ways, though my squad themselves have changed very little

Captain Jet - Leader of the 218th's Crisis Company and Heartbeat of the Family

Captain Jet, formerly known as Corporal Jettison before he lost nearly the entirety of his Company during the first battle of Geonosis, only gained his rank due to the combination of a field promotion and a paper pusher rushing to get the 218th put back together with what forces they could get their hands on after their devastating first deployment, without vetting his Shiny New Promotion through the proper channels. Nevertheless, Captain Jet is dedicated to his soldiers, and to being the Kindest man he can be, not wanting any to suffer the burden of loss and shame he felt as everyone he ever grew up with died in the first week of the war.

Lieutenant Margo - Second in Command of Crisis Company and one of the Finest Technician's money can Make

The first Addition to the newly reformed Crisis Company, Margo left behind her own squad command to be the second to her Captain, Jet. Trusting in his judgement, Margo would follow him to hell and back, though for the first half of the war she largely follows him to a glorified guard posting for the republics embassy and shipping warehouses on Brentaal. She's a fine Leader and an even better Tech, though her specialties lay much closer to Mechanics than to Code-breaking. The only thing that tops her technical skills is her love of having a Fun Time. Body and Mind of a Super Soldier, personality of 'if a frat-boy was a girl'

Specialist Nihlus Brek - Ancient Sith Archivist and a loving Guardian of his squad with a Sadistic streak

After being shown selfless kindness by the Captains personal squad after the loss of his clan and his rough awakening from a forced stasis, with the 'permission' of the Jedi Council, Sith Lord Nihlus Brek now serves in the GAR under the command of Captain Jet, the only man who's orders he follows without hesitation or question, killing or healing as needed for the man he now calls 'Alor and Brother. Though it is true he holds love for his squad, the real secret of his unwavering loyalty is the Blood Oath he swore to Captain Jet, his orders now bound by sith alchemy, Nihlus has given his leader unwavering control over both their destinies.

Sergeant Cynic - Heavy Weapons Expert and Artist with an Attitude

Though an Urban Crisis Response unit doesn't particularly need a soldier who's second greatest passion in life is blowing things up with his rocket launcher, Cynic earn his place on the squad through the power of nepotism. That is, Margo's one condition for leaving her previous squad behind with little complaint, was that she got to bring her favorite brother with. Although his name may suggest otherwise, this pessimist (though he considers himself a 'realist') has a love for all things pretty and colorful, and quite the talent for copying it down in his small sketchbook, always making room for his small assortment of watercolors in his combat kit.

Corporal Lake - Spotter of the Squads Sharpshooter duo and self proclaimed Ethics Committee

Lake is likely the only one of the Captains squad that, once you get to know them, could be described as the republics ideal of a Good Soldier. That is, Lake is one of the few who spares even a second or third thought for the success of the mission and collateral casualties over the lives of his fellow squad mates. He is probably the only one who could say he would not give a thousand lives just to spare those he cares for. Nevertheless, although he has his own personal misgivings over the result of some of their missions, Lake is grateful for his life, for his family, and for the many chances he is given to fight another day. And, as always, his Captains word is Law.

Corporal Torch - Deadeye of the Squads Sharpshooter Duo and resident Troublemaker

"We're here for a fun time, not a long time!" Are common words for Torch to say before getting his ass beat for replacing Cynics fancy face lotion with space Nair or being put on 'Fresher duty for his ballsey yet comedic insubordination. Captain Jet often says the only thing that stops Torch from being demoted to maintenance duty altogether is his skill with a rifle, hitting targets your typical human would have needed the force to even perceive. Though in truth, Jet would not trade Torch's levity and loyalty for the galaxy itself. Torch and Lake are mirrors of one another, by choice, as it brings them great joy to be mistaken for one another by not only natural born humans, but also unfamiliar clones. As some of the last living soldiers from their original bloc of trained sharpshooting specialists, they refuse to be parted from one another, unable to bear the thought of losing the last of their batch.

Field Medic Heron - Resident Healer with a Big Secret

Heron tired of front line Medicine fairly quickly, as his zest for death did not hold up to losing his brothers one by one, upon joining the Urban Crisis Response Specialists of the 218th, his steadfast work and easy bedside manner landed him his place in the Captains squad rather easily, and he took rather well to glorified guard duty. That is, until the fateful day where an assassin droid hidden among their cargo took his leg, though in a feat of the butterfly effect, directly led to the squad meeting their Sith. His secret? On shore leave, Heron likes to kill people. In order to stay in line with both his own ideas of morality and his Captains idea's of ethics, not that Jet hears of his activities from the medic directly, he dresses in plainclothes and limps around, waiting for some unfortunate mugger to make their move. Heron craves the feeling of holding someone on the brink of life, having power over their fate, and then denying them the salvation they seek. And maybe sometimes he takes a bite or two, but that's his business.

Specialist Sprig - Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician and Company Spymaster

Specialist Sprig, formerly of the 398th Ordinance Corps, got his name as a result of a growth tube malfunction in his infancy, leaving him 2 inches shorter than your average trooper. Despite this 'defect' as the Kaminoans would refer to it, Sprig would rank among the top of his batch with his skills in bomb diffusal, having a deft touch and a keen eye for detail. In a cruel and ironic twist of fate, Sprig's greatest fear is dying in an explosion, vaporization, desintigration, you name it. Reassignment to the 218th and his posting of glorified guard duty was a dream come true. Proton bombs vs backyard terrorists? Sprig knows exactly which he would take in an average day. With his keen eyes, sharp ears, and strong memory, Sprig also excels at information collection. His shorter stature and friendly demeanor is often very encouraging for those who have a burden they'd like to share, though one has to keep in mind, he has the ear of the Captain one short comm call away.

Plssss, the world needs more Sentiment & Reason, no matter what stage it's at

see what's funny is i actually started writing the first chapter in my head last night but it was like 4am and i HAD to go to bed lol

sentiment and reason is the sort-of prequel to to catch a rabbit, aka kryterius murder mystery, just in the sense that it takes place prior to rabbit. not super connected otherwise. this time, instead of saren and nihlus, we're covering avitus and macen and how they get together - specifically, via a spectre mission wherein they pose as a married couple moving into a neighborhood in order to investigate a murder.

so far i have the outline up to day 2 of the investigation, i'm working on getting at least to a workable skeleton outline before i start divvying up into chapters, but i do have the setting, the victim, the murder method, and the 3 primary suspects + actual killer worked out :3c and also a subplot about saren's great-grandfather dying of cancer and saren getting The Call sometime before the climax. that'll hurt like a bitch i already cried just thinking of him and des discussing the inevitable last night i'm fine but also it's important to avi and macen in that avi encouraging saren to go be with his dying parsaepat instead of seeing the mission through is a breakthrough moment for the two of them, proving that avi does have empathy and emotional intelligence he just keeps them under lock and key, especially once he admits to macen that part of his motivation for telling saren to go was that he (avi) didn't get to say goodbye to his own mother when she was killed when he was 12 and he doesn't want his brother-friend to have to live with that very unique kind of pain

i don't really have any snippets worth sharing so here's some Fun Facts instead:

title is derived from a poirot quote, because that is apparently my naming scheme for this series, specifically The Mysterious Affair at Styles: "'Every murderer is probably somebody’s old friend', observed Poirot philosophically. 'You cannot mix up sentiment and reason.'"

fic takes place on the turian world thracia, which is another one of the ones with no canon from the scavenger hunt me1 mission and i'm kinda just bullshitting as i go but currently i have it as a world on the part of the turian-human border that used to be (unpopulated, just claimed) turian-salarian, pleasant climate, mostly a retirement planet for older turians looking for somewhere peaceful and warm to spend their twilight years, but with the advent of humanity there's been an increase of alien immigrants and with them younger turians moving in to make the old people feel more secure. there's tension there as a lot of turians don't want humans to feel entitled to a turian planet while humans and some other species feel the turians are being reactionary.

the victim is lieutenant general tagetis agonian, a very old drake (147yo at TOD) with an illustrious career including supporting desolas arterius's rise to power/fame and being one of the commanding generals at shanxi

because we all know i love my meaningful names, agonian's first name comes from the genus name for marigolds Tagetes, because he's killed with a marigold crushed into his tea to trigger his severe levo allergy

macen also has a severe levo allergy. coming into contact with a mixed-chirality bouquet and explaining his sudden hives to avi is what gives avi the idea for what killed the general when his autopsy comes back negative for known poisons but his tea had an earth plant in it.

one of the suspects, myrenth "myra" d'saana, is an asari resident in their waning matron stage who works as an accountant in the city. they moved to thracia with their bondmate several decades ago, and while their bondmate has passed on they'd grown fond of the neighborhood and their neighbors and chose to stay there to raise the child she had with said bondmate. said child is currently in their early 30s, asari equivalent of about 8 or 9, and was conceived shortly before the bondmate passed as "something to remember her by."

myrenth is very proud of their garden and regularly went back and forth with tagetis for first place in the annual competition. their garden is mixed-chirality, but they politely kept the levo plants away from the fence bordering tagetis's yard so he wouldn't accidentally come in contact with them.

I'd expect nothing else at this point and like fair warning you're the one who's inspired a good portion of my hcs for both these dramatic little tarts soooo

Sexuality Headcanon: DESOLAS: Bisexual, in the very turian 'why should i give a fuck about gender we're both here and consenting to have fun' way SAREN: Demi, actually! In my verses, Saren honestly wasn't big on anything sexual nor interested in dating until Nihlus came on scene and then after some time as friends, it was like "oh. oh". Yeah that was a big revelation for him 😂 Gender Headcanon: i think it's fair to say that for both of them, they're cis given that their consideration of gender hasn't gone beyond 'i'm comfortable with my assigned-at-birth gender and associated pronouns' A ship I have with said character: DESOLAS: i mean, i'm assuming desabrudas is a given, naturally, but failing that look, letting him and adrien victus fuck nasty sounds hilarious. Is it hatesex or is it just an excess of competitiveness they need to work out before anyone can stand to be around the pair of them/ who knows, they sure don't! SAREN: Kryterius aside, because that's a given. Castis/Saren has, despite my best efforts, consumed too much of my thoughts to no longer exist outside of crack discussion so... let's just go with that. A BROTP I have with said character: DESOLAS: (DEEP BREATH) he and Pallin served together at some point before the latter was injured and made the move to c-sec. Yes, he sometimes gets shitty messages telling him what his brother's been up to on the Citadel, no it's not sometimes the funniest fucking thing ever, no, no way, why say that? Venny is the 10/10 perfect grumpy friend to tease and get drinks with when they're in the same place at the same time.

SAREN: look we made it this far, you know what was coming - Avitus. No, he didn't go out expecting to end up with a friend when he started student shopping but, alas, this dumb varren is cling as fuck and won't leave him alone. Aaaand after a while, he's forced to realise that they are, in fact, friends. Goddamnit why this one? (It's because he's a great friend to have, loyal and great at balancing being amusingly annoying without being stressful to spend time with.) A NOTP I have with said character: DESOLAS: honestly, I haven't seen any ships for him that I don't like, whether that's just because I'm immensely lucky to have missed it or because people with bad opinions haven't touched him, I'm not sure, but there we have it lmao SAREN: Shepard, Benezia, basically any non-turian character in canon. Idk what part of prickly xenophobe the fandom doesn't get but just. No. A random headcanon: (going with no-reapers crustyverse here) DESOLAS: A month before the birth of his daughter, he hands in his resignation and leaves, middle fingers raised, to be a very comfortable stay-at-home-dad. (Nearly) everyone says he'll be bored within the year, he laughs in their faces and loves every second of raising his (feral) child. Really, given how he most-of-the-way raised saren, everyone should have seen that coming. Just because he's older doesn't mean he's any saner. SAREN: This bitch has an unhealthy addiction to being squished into not being able to think or breathe. Multiple weighted blankets, thick duvets and, in the later years, Nihlus. The more crushed he is, the more comfortable he is actually. General Opinion over said character: (Holds both of them very close, squishes them until they suffocate) wonderful baby bastards, dramatic tarts, I wanna chew on them.

Cassandra Grace Kryik-Shepard

So I realized that I never did a character sheet of sorts for my main Shepard oc. Or if I did its probably horribly out of date. I'm using @theshepcollective's layout for this

Backstory -Colonist Background- Sole Survivor of Akuze. Class - Soldier [pre alchera], Vanguard [Post Alchera] Alignment - 80% Paragon Lover(s).- Tela Vasir [former]; Kaidan Alenko and Garrus Vakarian; Best Friend(s)- Tali, Macen Barro, Drack Nackmor, the giant turian family that she was adopted into, Selena.

Cassandra was born on Mindoir on April 11th, 2154. She grew up with her mother, step-father and an older half-brother until the Batarians raided Mindoir on her 15th Birthday and her biotics manifested. Fortunately for her, that day the spectres Nihlus Kryik and Saren Arterius were on Mindoir looking to investigate a prothean ruin that Cassandra was already headed towards to hide in. A misunderstanding lead to her biotically throwing the pair of Spectres into a nearby river when they tried to make sure she was okay after she fell out of a tree she had been hiding in. She helped them find the ruin they were looking for and in exchange they helped her escape the slaver raid, unable to save any of her friends and family. Once they got her away from the Slavers, they sent her to the Alliance Embassy on the Citadel so that she could find any remaining family she had that wasn't on the colony when it was attacked. The only family that could be found was her grandmother on Earth so Cassandra was sent to live with her in London. Within a month however, her step-grandfather would discover she was a biotic and kick her out onto the streets to fend for herself. Before long, she ended up on the Citadel working for the crime lord Fist just to survive since she was too young to enlist in the Alliance and there were very few legal jobs available to a human biotic. After a little less than a year of working for Fist to survive, she managed to escape that life when Nihlus adopted her after discovering that she was being wrongly accused of her friends murder on the condition that she stay out of trouble with with Citadel Security. Her official records list her as "Shepard" until the Collector Base when she ditches the name Shepard all together because in addition to Human-turian relations still being tense, Nihlus was worried that if her being his daughter was public knowledge then it would make her a target for anyone who wanted to hurt her to get in the way of his Spectre work. Saren agreed to help train Cassandra to use her biotics after learning about an incident in which she defenestrated Hackett and Anderson. She only enlisted in the Alliance at 18 because that was the only place she could work as a human biotic. After she goes to Nihlus for moral support after Akuze [before the alliance officially knows what thresher maws are], some poorly chosen words from Nihlus, she cut off contact with him and left the Alliance to work for C-Sec, only to return to the Alliance when Hackett offered her an N7 recommendation to the villa where after defenestrating Kai Leng, she gained a reputation for throwing people that tried to threaten her. Alec Ryder was her mentor ion N7 school. She's a soldier up until Alchera when she was given a overcharged amp with Project Lazarus [the records that Cerberus had been given were forged post-mortem to cast Cassandra in a better light in the event they were leaked in full to the public] when she accidentally killed Miranda and Jacob and switches to Vanguard, horrified at what she had been turned into. When she got to the Citadel post-Alchera the only people she would talk to were Nihlus, Lexi, Macen and Tela'Vasir. She didn't believe in the Reapers until Virmire and was pissed when Anderson made her mention the visions in the reports because she knew they would make her seem crazy. She is in a throuple with Garrus and Kaidan. After Alchera she makes an agreement with the Council to spy on Cerberus and because Alchera was to be her last mission in the Alliance, she spends her house arrest on the Citadel since only the Council had jurisdiction over her as a Spectre. Another Spectre was sent to the Bahak System to clean up the Alliance's mess. Cassandra also kills Balak as revenge since he personally killed her parents during the raid.

I saw that your favourite video game series is Mass Effect and as someone also in love with it I'm curious who your favourite character is and why?

Mine's Jeff (my beloved), followed closely by Garrus, Tali, and Anderson. Though if Nihlus lived longer I think he could've been my fave! 💛

Okay so Garrus Vakarian has my whole heart because it's just... the voice, everything about him. How he's loyal, hes so protective and he loves his family. His dialogue, the way he is... I don't know how to explain it

But my squad of favourites, that I would die for, consist of: Both Shepards, Garrus, Tali, Wrex, Kaidan, Liara, and Captain Anderson

Councilor Valern: "The Hegemony's agents in this area can be both aggressive and elusive. You may have to approach them directly. Their dismissive behavior is a cultural power game. It is important to take precautionary measures if- "

Saren, lighting up his biotic aura and pulling out a handcanon the size of a baby krogan: "That. is. IT. I am done playing games."

Nihlus, taking his spot on the vidcall screen: "soooo... he hasn't slept in two days... and we spent all of yesterday walking through a swamp only to find the ambassador was a no show. also they've insulted his brother, his face, all of you, me, and his ship just about every conversation."

Tevos: "Oh dear."

Valern: "Kryik, go stop him!"

Nihlus: "... how?"

Spraratus, having already processed the stages of grief, prepared his formal apology to the Batarians, and is now contemplating lunch: "Mmn. Do your best."

Nihlus: "uhhh, copy that."

*explosion noises in background*

Nihlus: "gotta go, bye!"

7. What is your favorite scene you’ve written so far?

It hasn’t been written yet! It’s right at the end of the chapter.

8. What is the last scene you’ve written?

Saren emerged long after the dregs left in their glasses had gone sticky and sour, but just in time for John to come barreling into the bar, gun at the ready. Just behind him, a wall of C-Sec officers had their guns trained on the door.

“Party’s already over, Saint John,” she drawled, tracing her finger around the rim of her glass.

“Is this all just a game to—” John choked on his own voice as Nihlus strolled past. She hadn’t even seen his hand move to clock her brother in his adam’s apple.

“Don’t finish that sentence, Shepard.” Nihlus flared his mandibles at Saren — who did not return his smile. “Manager didn’t give you a refund, I take it?”

A derisive click echoed out of Saren’s throat. “Fist betrayed the Shadow Broker, and more egregiously, me.”

“Need me to go grab his head?” Wrex chuckled from the peanut gallery.

Nihlus cocked his head. “What’s he—”

“Don’t worry about it.” Saren held up two OSDs and offered one to Nihlus. “I took the liberty of cloning Fist’s hard drive before I flashed the terminal.”

“You melted it, didn’t you?”

“Semantics,” Saren huffed. “He was using legitimate investigations as a cover to go digging through classified personnel records and traffic people off the station. Three guesses who was paying him per sapient.”

“He was double-dipping with Prophet.”

“And his Salvation cult. On which I now have a sizable amount of information from direct sources.”

“Enough to find them?”

“Enough to make a connection and find a more reliable lead than word-of-mouth.”

So I finally finished all the first fifty questions for @spookyvalentine Shepard Questionnaire. I feel like I ramble with most of these so whoops

1. Why did Shepard enlist? Any regrets?

So Jenn is earthborn and adheres to that canon of being in a gang. As she got older she didn’t really want to be doing what she was doing and her biotics were starting to kick in. She knew that the gang would want to exploit that (and they started to try).

A close friend (older brother figure) also knew that and had been urging her to think about her options. After a bust from the police, they offer her a deal after seeing her out of control biotics and her skill in tech. Idk if that’s how it works but oh well

2. How does your Shepard feel about having a yeoman assigned to them in 2? And in 3?

Shepard doesn’t like the fact that Kelly is psychoanalyzing them and then reporting to TIM. She’s already going through so much emotionally and mentally and having to watch what she does is just another burden. Kelly seems fine but Shepard doesn’t make a whole lot of effort to know about her. She is the epitome of professionalism to Kelly. (Though having Kelly help sort the spam mail is great)

Energetic, smart, and willing to do what Traynor needs, means Shepard likes her. Traynor makes sure Shepard sees the important emails bc she always forgets. Shepard appreciates the leads Traynor gives her.

3. What’s their relationship with Anderson?

Mentor & mentee. Anderson came to N7 to do some teaching for Shepard’s class and Anderson noticed that Shepard was a promising candidate. (Maybe saw himself in her). Anderson was one of the first people to reach Elysium (is this canon? No) and they get closer after that.

4. Is your Shepard any good at poker?

Yes. Shepard is really good at hustling people at most card games and like billiards. Liara has refused to play with her. Vega has yet to learn this lesson. Kaidan is someone who can give her a run for her money.

5. How well does Shepard know their crew? Not just the companions, but the folks making up the Normandy.

Shepard makes it a point to know the crew that she’s in charge of and asks questions based on what they’ve previously told her. In 1, when she’s doing her rounds and meeting people this is one of the times she notices Nihlus watching her.

2, it takes a while before she can psych herself up to do rounds outside of her ground crew bc its Cerberus and when she does it’s mainly out of spite. Meeting her crew, she learns of their beliefs and why the joined and well, TIM is good at picking the right people. They’re not awful. Her rounds make the crew like her (not just respect her) and inspire even more loyalty in her which makes after the Collector base better in that she doesn’t have to fight with them when she leaves TIM.

3, she does her rounds but she doesn’t stay with individual people as long as before. She really doesn’t have the time nor the energy to keep up the same routine. But the crew notice the effort.

6. Initial reaction to EDI? Does it change?

Classic she doesn’t trust AI, especially Cerberus AI but EDI proves herself and Shepard calls her an ally by the end of 2.

Learning what EDI does after they leave TIM and the escape from Earth just really cements in Shepard that trusting EDI was a good idea. They’re EDI’s crew and EDI’s part of Shepard’s crew.

7. Does their love interest move into their quarters?

Garrus does move in around halfway through 3, yes. Shepard is practically always in Commander mode during the war and with Garrus she doesn’t need to be anything so he stays up in the cabin during down times a lot with her and it just makes sense to move his stuff. (Does Garrus freak out that they’re moving in? Possibly. Shepard will never know)

8. What is their reaction to the Alchera mission? And after?

Ohhhhh boy. Okay so. I’m actually trying to write something about this but basically when Shepard reads Hackett’s message she’s pissed. Like the Alliance left the dog tags down there for two years?

She puts its off but eventually what convinces her to do it is bc her crew and their family is her duty and like hell will she balk at it.

Doesn’t mean it’s fun. Her and Joker have an emotional heart to heart about it that helps clear the air between them and make it less awkward.

Shepard isolates herself for a bit afterwards, coming to terms that that is where she died but she’s alive now. Garrus shows up to give her food and she actually lets him in.

9. What type of fighter is your Shepard? Do they fight with honor, or do they fight dirty?

Jenn initially fought dirty, bc of the gang, she fought to survive most of the time. But the Alliance trained her (mostly) out of it. She doesn’t and didn’t kill unarmed civilians if she could and if someone surrendered she almost always just took them in. Now… Elysium, on the other hand. Those dirty tricks came into play during the raid. One of the reasons she managed to win and stay alive.

10. Does Shepard keep any pets? The hamster, fish, something else?

Jenn does get the hamster in 2 (Mr. Spocket the Third), tries to keep fish but they kept dying so gave up. I know you can have Kelly come up and feed them, but I feel like Jenn wants to keep that space hers as much as she can. In three though, someone (idk who yet) gifts her the VI so she can finally keep her fish alive and as the war progresses her crew keep gifting her new fish.

11. What order does Shepard pick up companions in me2?

She goes to Omega first bc yeah they DO need Mordin working ASAP but picks Garrus up first after Zaeed bc of his precarious position. After learning it was Garrus, she is immensely relieved that she did and tries not to let the what if’s run wild.

Then it’s Mordin, Jack, Grunt. Shepard hits the Citadel after Horizon bc that’s what would make Jenn tell the Council to cram their Spectre offer up their ass. She saw what happened their and they still want to write it off? Fine. So Kasumi then. Tali, Thane, Samara, Legion. I believe that’s everyone.

12. Does Shepard have any nicknames? What do they think of 'em?

Shepard doesn’t mind nicknames. Kasumi’s ‘Shep’ is great and some of the ground team incorporate it too (Tali, Jacob, Joker (I know he’s not ground team).

Jack’s ‘girl scout’ irks her the tiniest bit bc she was never a Girl Scout but doesn’t mind bc Jack cares enough to give her a nickname.

James calls her loco. Which- fair enough. She doesn’t mind this either bc yeah, she does a lot of buck wild shit.

13. How does your Shep react to teasing/ribbing?

- She gives as good as she gets. She thinks it’s fun but she always is watching and making sure no one is taking it too far, especially her bc she’s the commanding officer. She doesn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

14. Any good at flirting?

She’s not bad at it, but isn’t going to be teaching a class on it either. She gives good enough advice to friends but she hasn’t really had a lot of practice in her life and that’s fine to her.

It helps that Garrus is even more awkward.

15. What colors does Shepard prefer for their armor?

Black or dark blood red. She lost a bet in her early days as a marine and had to wear an acid trip for a color scheme. She wore it longer than she had to bc everyone’s reactions are hilarious and it maybe grew on her.

Acid trip in question had a black base, but neon green, pink, and yellow accents and patterns. She tried to make it look coherent. She somewhat succeeded.

16. Is Shepard a drinker? History of other substances? Do they struggle with sobriety?

The gang tried to get her hooked on red sand bc of her biotics, but her brother figure got her out of that. Shepard drinks sometimes, and only when other people are drinking too and it’s never a lot.

She shares that drink with Chakwas every time bc she cares about her doctor.

17. How does Shepard react to attention? Do they enjoy it?

Fan and hero worship? Get her the fuck outta here. But she likes being part of conversations and telling stories.

Of the more romantic attention, doesn’t necessarily know what to do when she doesn’t reciprocates and feels really awkward.

18. Who’s the dream team? Which companions does Shepard fight best with and why?

I said it before, I’ll say it again, who ever she can cause the best explosions with is the dream team. So most of her biotic squad she meshes well with.

She loves fighting with Wrex bc they can just become chaotic, biotic destructive tanks that the enemy wants to get rid of immediately which opens them up to the third member. Which in 1, was mostly Tali or Garrus.

Kaidan and her are great together in 3 bc it’s super easy to set up explosions with him and she appreciates Reave (which she also likes using with Samara)

19. Are there any companions your Shepard just absolutely cannot vibe with or relate to?

I feel like Jenn would be uncomfortable with Zaeed bc she can see that if she stayed in the gang, this was her future. She could have been him.

Initially, she stayed clear of Miranda and Jacob, but Jacob’s a likeable guy and after some pushing, and Miranda’s loyalty mission she starts to see them as allies and friends instead of simple coworkers.

20. Does Shepard enjoy looking for resources and upgrading gear, or do they see it as a chore?

Shepard always wants to upgrade her gear and scanning for resources is a nice mind numbing activity that she can lose her self in.

21. Do you have any AUs for your Shepard?

I do have a Nihlus lives AU where he and Shepard get together. It’s not very fleshed out and barely there but I have it.

And of course, Kal’Reegar joins the team in 2 and they get together.

22. What’s the last thing Shepard ate before the final reaper showdown?

Jenn would try to have something nutritious so she can be at her utmost game but like she’d totally want a basket of fries and a milkshake

24. Who does Shepard turn to for advice? For comfort? Who do they like to gossip with?

She turns to Anderson for advice and sometimes Wrex bc he can be unconventional in his wisdom but it usually helps. (even if it just gets her to laugh)

She gossips with Kasumi, Tali, and Joker but mainly leaves them to it most of the time.

25. How emotionally articulate is your Shepard? Do they emote well?

Shepard plays her emotions close to her, not really revealing how she truly feels most of the time. This not only lets her show what she wants but lets her process the emotions more so she can deal with them. She tries to be articulate what she’s feeling to people, sometimes it doesn’t work.

She doesn’t want people using her emotions against her.

26. Does your Shepard have a romance? Who are they, and what drew Shep to them?

Garrus! Our love-able turian. I feel like she somewhat started to like him in 1 and didn’t really realize it.

Her dying has her world view tipped on its head and she really starts to lean on Garrus as a confidant and someone she can trust to be at her back. Garrus never disappoints.

She was drawn to him bc he does want to make the galaxy better he’s just extreme about it. He cares and his ruthless streak matches hers.

27. Do they have any pet peeves?

She can’t handle people who don’t clear the microwave after they use it. Like if someone takes something out before the timer so like :10 seconds is left on it and they just leave it there. Drives her bonkers.

28. What about hyperfixations? What’s the topic that will get Shepard rolling no matter the person or place?

Model ships. The drama in the community, the mistakes in how some models are made and that’s not how it is at all, what blueprint were they looking at? What models got discontinued and her opinions on how people should decal their models (Jenn doesn’t care if someone painted a ship hot pink they had fun and they paid for the model, leave them alone)

29. How active is Shepard? Are they hitting the gym, playing sports, or do they prefer quieter downtime?

They work out bc they need to but they do enjoy running. It’s a good way for them to quiet their mind.

She does prefer a quieter downtime, mainly her ships, reading, a listening to music.

Her and Joker like to have movie nights where she’s forced to make popcorn bc apparently hers is the best.

Garrus. His sense of humor will always cheer her up.

32. What do they do when they have hit their limit angry, just incandescent with rage?

She finds a punching bag and just lays in on it. She can’t punch the people she’s upset with so she punches it instead. It lets her get her rage out so she can think properly about the problem and wears her out.

33. What skills do they have that are a surprise to the people around them?

I feel like Shepard would be into calisthenics and people just watch her in awe

Calisthenics is a type of workout that uses a person’s body weight with little to no equipment. The exercises involve movements that use large muscle groups, such as pushups. People typically perform these exercises at a moderate pace. They help to improve coordination, flexibility, and strength.

35. Which companions have they lost? How do they cope with it?

Jenn has lost the ‘canon’ deaths- Ashley, Mordin, Thane, and Legion. She knows her mission requires sacrifice with the last three, Ashley proved that, and they accepted that this was going to happen. She tries to make peace with that even if she feels rage at the fact that they shouldn’t have died, that she should have been better. She tries not to let the maybes control her but they get in her brain anyways. Ashley was a cold shock, it made her feel like a failure, and it made her that much angrier when dealing with Saren.

36. Do they like to style their hair, wear makeup and jewelry? How do they feel about getting dressed up?

Shepard likes getting dressed for going out, but doesn’t like most dresses. Kasumi’s little number is the closest she’ll ever get to a dress she likes.

Shepard’s hair is short so there’s not much to do besides like curling. But she rarely does that.

Jenn does like jewelry but not makeup.

37. Got any bad habits?

Picks at her nails when she’s anxious or nervous. Wearing gloves help so she doesn’t do it as much when she’s in armor

38. Does Shepard do any activities with the companions and crew during downtime?

She does movie nights with Joker, and they do their paperwork together but that’s not downtime.

Kasumi likes doing her nails and she works out with Jacob

39. Do they keep around any sentimental items?

Okay this one made me sad, thanks for that. Any of the stuff you can pick up in game, Jenn gets. But one of the younger gang members had made her a friendship bracelet that Jenn wore everywhere. Sadly, she didn’t see it after the Collector attack.

40. Does your Shepard actually like to collect model ships? If not, what do they display?

She does!! She originally started it as something to do during leave bc at first she didn’t make a lot of friends. So she started building ships that she served on.

41. How is Shepard with a gun? What about hand to hand?

Fan-fucking-tastic. She versatile in all weapon types but prefers an assault rifle or a sniper. She fights tanky so sometimes she uses a shotgun when she gets up close and personal.

ME1 and explosive rounds were beautiful.

Hand to hand she’s good with and I feel like she would try to teach some of the crew who weren’t so well versed in it.

It’s very interesting when Garrus and Shepard go at it.

42. Favorite weapon?

M-27 Lancer hands down. Good aim and magazine and she can handle the recoil. She doesn’t like the new thermal clips so finding that weapon was a godsend.

43. Which version of the Normandy do they like best?

There will always be a special place in her heart for the SR-1 but she likes the 2 better because it’s bigger and has more room for the people she cares about. It’s been through a lot with her so

44. Do they like to rotate out your companions for quests? Who do they bring the most?

She does rotate people out based on what she expects to be there and so no one gets too antsy without something to kill.

She brings Garrus, Wrex, and Javik out the most.

45. Do they approve of curing the genophage?

Yes. She doesn’t think letting the Krogan die off is a good thing, no species should just be killed.

46. Does Shepard allow the rachni to live in me1?

Yep! Like I said above, she doesn’t like the thought of killing an entire species.

47. Does Shepard practice any kind of self-care?

Cosmetics wise? Like oils, face masks, lotion and all that? No. She just uses a simple face soap bc the Alliance standard three-in-one sucks. I feel like when Kasumi learns about this she’s appalled. Jenn tries to defend herself and makes the mistake saying it’s expensive. And Kasumi is like- I steal my shit, I’ll steal yours too. After the last stop at the Citadel, there’s a little gift basket in her quarters. Jenn tries some of it, doesn’t keep some. She’s not big on it.

More on the mental health side? When she stretches/does yoga for her exercise routine she tries to process everything that’s going on in her life.

48. What abilities do they rely on the most in a fight?

Throw/Warp combo for the explosion and overload/neural shock. Great for when she’s in a pinch. Bullets work too.

49. What is Shepard’s happy ending? What’s the dream that keeps 'em going?

Her dream is that she’ll get to stay with Garrus and be all domestic and shit. She’ll meet up with her crew regularly and everyone is fucking happy Damnit. She’ll collect more models, and Garrus and her will have their little sniper competitions that end with make outs.

50. Is your Shepard indoctrinated?

Nah

But like I think she gets headaches from all the beacons and visions she gets and she worries sometimes. But Garrus says nothing is wrong with her.

And now I’m thinking that she goes to Kaidan and if she ever turns, she makes him promise to kill her before she does anything. I feel like he would. (This is not a slight against Kaidan)

aside from the obvious, sparatus/quentius is also a fave, i do so love boss and loyal dragon dynamics, and the two of them are that plus a flip side out of work where they're just best mean girl friends hanging out being catty old men together. plus for bad end it makes it so much juicier that not only was sparatus quentius's friend but also a sometimes-lover, bad end hurts but it's so so deliciously messy

plus also @thetrashbagswasteland put sparatus/desolas in my head and it bops around from time to time, just like, suave but chaotic military man with the personality of a mob boss "you wanna fuck me so bad it makes you stupid" vs prickly by-the-book law boy "i hate that you're actually as charming as you think you are you charismatic asshole" i think it would be fun okay someday ill write it teia and abrudas can also get in on it for fun or they can bang on the side it's fine

A BROTP I have with said character: sparatus & quentius, for reasons listed above. the more i dabble around the more sparkyteia and quentilea are becoming just a platonic polypile, oopsie, they're all good friends. also quite fond of sparatus & saren, because saren is very well-trusted and the council's golden boy and not every spectre is going to have shepard's experience with the council so it only makes sense for saren to have that sort of loyal right hand kinda dynamic with sparky. sparatus & valern is also fun for my usual political intrigue reasons but we don't have time to get into the complicated bullshit fueling the turian-salarian alliance rn

A NOTP I have with said character: sparatus/shepard, for reasons i should hope are obvious by now. guys idk how to explain this but sometimes characters just hate you without secretly wanting to fuck you. he has legitimate criticisms of shepard and ill die on this hill, there's no ust he isn't into you and mad about it he just doesn't like your fucking attitude. and you can't convince me your shepard somehow turns it around into genuine love, i don't fucking believe you, it's ooc some characters will simply never grow to truly Like you more than respecting your ability and that's fucking okay and normal

also sparatus/saren, because while i adjust saren's age in my work to bring him up to 70 in me1 (and closer to sparky, 76) the main works i know of for that ship have sparatus more than twice his age (in his 60s while saren was EIGHTEEN) and taking advantage of the age gap and saren's emotional turmoil after his brother's death to groom him into the perfect partner, which... oh my god no. and it was presented as romantic! as saren's first real love before nihlus!! i am calling the police!! and pretty much everyone ive seen who talks about that ship got it from that fic so. yeah that author is my parasocial enemy

A random headcanon: despite how closely they have to work together, and sparky being a prosecutor pre-politics (thus allegedly on the side of the cops), he and pallin have a rather... antagonistic relationship, mostly because of how sparky responds to pallin's complaints about spectres ("i'll let them know" which usually means nothing will be done and the spectres will continue treating civil misdemeanors and traffic violations like a game) but also because sparky himself has personal beef with like 7 different prominent cops, is from a "fuck the cops they're imperial shills we can police ourselves" background, and is so so good at being pedantic and annoying when he's feeling petty which is any time pallin isn't talking about an actual serious issue. he wants pallin to stop bothering him about traffic stops. pallin wants to fuck the smug look off his face. they're not allowed to have face-to-face meetings without quentius present because they WILL go straight to childish squabbling.

General Opinion over said character: he's my grandpa. he's Me. nobody in this fandom deserves him y'all need to remove the main character pov blinders and think about shit from his perspective and stop just assuming he's racist and stupid because he tells you no. the man has his position for a reason, and if you listen to what he's actually saying he's DEEPLY empathetic and concerned with how the public at large will be affected, he fucking cares about people it's canon it's canon it's CANON he literally goes behind his colleagues' backs to try to help you save palaven and stop the war right away that's not what a selfish heartless bureaucrat who only cares about his own small circle does i have ESSAYS dammit
