Me Watching Fate/Apocrypha ep 19
Come up with a plan crazier than “We will attack an ancient Babylonian flying fortress with Boeing 737s” I’ll wait
Astolfo: “I wanna be the pilot!” Fiore: “We prioritize safety above everything.” Astolfo: “Booo.”
Astolfo: “Man I wish I can remember my noble phantasm’s true name then it’d be all easy peasy we’d win right away” Literally everyone: “I have never heard a sentence more irresponsible than the one just coming out of your mouth."
Haha Astolfo be like “C’mon it’s not like I’m so hopeless at least I know the conditions to trigger my memory” and then everybody’s like “What are you? A self-aware amnesiac?"
Mordred is so cool resting her arm on Kairi’s shoulder such a proud child
Ah the culmination of Forvedge arc!!!! It’s also one of my favorite parts of the novels!
Fiore: “Caules goddamnit stop making me panic I’m screaming inside already” Caules: “If you’re already screaming inside with just me reciting everything that’s against us then you’re not fit to work under pressure.” Fiore: “You little shit.”
“Nee-san, choose. Become a cinnamon roll, or a sinnamon roll. You can’t be both.” -Caules
Wow that’s an incredibly humane answer from Fiore.
I like how Caules’s voice goes from cold to soft in 0.1 second
“Well you’re a rare 100% kind, normal sister in Nasuverse. I’d rather kill anyone than to let you stop being like that.” -Caules
And the mood is suddenly changed by the appearance of naked Astolfo and his man part.
“SHE HAS A DICCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK” -Jeanne D’Arc, The Maid of Orleans, on discovering a trap
Jeanne, my girl, I think you just have been… TRAPPED!
The castle of Yddgmillennia had never been shook so hard as it had been by Jeanne’s scream
Astolfo: “GYAHAHA she thinks I’m a girl all along! It’s hilarious!” Sieg: “Say that to the hundred of people who check on your typemoon wiki page because they don’t believe you’re a guy.”
In the novel Astolfo is annoyingly lavish he just buys anything he sees on street and Sieg regrets everything
WoW Mordred that’s a ton of food you’re eating
Mood: Mordred frowning at people while still munching a steak
I don’t understand why Jeanne is not in this room? Like, she helps a lot in this scene in the novel as well??
I think Gordes is also in this room too in the novel but let’s face it, it’s Gordes
Dude c’mon it’s not like she’s only there to brood over Sieg and Laeticia I’m disappointed
She guides Caules in his painful magic operation thing and lent him a holy shroud to ease the pain in the novel BITCH THAT’S A LOT TO DO.
Also I’ve always been curious at the shroud is that too much to ask :(
Chiron: “Usually this kind of thing is done little by little.” Caules: “Ever heard the stories of students finishing 8 essays in a single night? If they can cram that much, so can I.”
You know, I like this transfer ritual scene that happens in Caules’ mind so much. It’s like it so much when he says “I was there too.” I like it so much when little!Fiore hands him the leash of the dog, symbolising her passing the responsibility to him, and him accepting the burden of it.
Like, literally this transfer ritual does not have anything to do with the need of power up, family tradition, magic superiority and shits like that. It’s treated as accepting responsibility and all the pain that comes from it.
Tho I wish this scene has a flash back of little!Caules too haha
Fiore: “U ok?” Caules: “I aM FiNE bELiEVe mE” Chiron: “That doesn’t sound like fine. Here, drink this medicine.” Caules: “nO I aM a MaN I dO nOT TaKE mEDiCiNe” Fiore: “…Think maybe we botched it?”
“You said I’m a rare 100% kind Nasuverse sister. You’re also a rare 100% kind, normal Nasuverse brother. So I’m damn proud of you.” -Fiore
Astolfo be like “I appreciate you’re buying me a pie, Master, but still I don’t want to eat anything even my pie in front of this punk ass gluton”
Sieg: “What do you think of human?” Mordred: “Slightly cleverer than animals. Usually driven by lust, greed, or a mixture of two. Mostly they just do whatever they want. So yeah, slightly cleverer animals."
Mood #2: Astolfo frowning when slurping his entire orange juice.
Hm I think this cafe scene is way more tense in the novel and it makes way more sense than this but that’s just me I think?
Astolfo: “So you wanna be good king or bad king?” Mordred: “Good king, of course.” Astolfo: “THAT’S IT I KNOW YOU’RE EV- Wait what?”
I love how with just a glance we know that it is not Jeanne but Laeticia, their body languages is way too different.
Astolfo: “Sure you’re not hiding anything?” Laeticia: “Huh I don’t, what do you mean, of course I don’t hide anything” Astolfo: “Swear to God?” Laeticia: “Ugh that’s cheating”
“Well, I know you like Sieg, but since I too want to bang him, and you’re not even Jeanne in the first place, you won’t get much support from me” -Astolfo
Sieg be like “Hm since when you two are very touchey feely? Are you trying to make a new ship?”
I know someone somwhere is shipping Jeanne and Astolfo don’t lie to me
Hm I don’t know what to make out this they don’t make it clear that it is Laeticia whereas Sieg even addressees her with her name instead of Jeanne’s.
I just feel so blessed watching the Forvedge siblings bond it’s so beautiful and pure
Look at them they are both so similar to each other so stubborn.
Hm I kinda feel annoyed that they don’t state that Caules is also providing Chiron prana which makes him technically his master too but whatever.
Fiore: “You’re the one who taught Caules the cinnamon-sinnamon speech, aren’t you?” Chiron: “Well it’s the easiest way to make him understand your condition.”
Fiore: “I don’t have the guts to be a magus, huh?” Chiron: “You treated me as a human being. If it’s any consolation, the rest of black faction’s masters barring your bro did exactly the opposite. 4 died, 1 became a long running humiliating joke. So you did the right thing.”
OH MY GOD CHIRON IS SO SWEET FIORE YOU ARE SO LUCKY
Chiron don’t apologize pretty sure men today don’t have half of your courtesy so
If that scene with Fran and Caules does not make it to the screen I’ll rage quit- OH MY A FLOWER PETAL
SCRATCH THAT THIS IS ALSO SAD :(
The storytelling in the novel was incredibly sad but the anime take on is also clenching my heart
Tho I’d like the scene of Fran throwing the flowers while Caules looks from the windows that’d be so beautiful
But I’ll settle with this holy shit he’s like that it’s like she never goes anywhere all these times like ugh my heart
Caules goes from “I dunno man, I don’t even want to do a war” to “I’ll go through this war until the end, even if there is no business left for me in it”
Brooding Jeanne.
Jeanne that’s called “being in love” get over it.
Mordred be like “Damn that trap and that fake saber they give me contagious existential crisis”
Mordred: “I have no idea how to surpass the King of Knights.” Me: First, don’t have a clone of yourself. Or tens of clones, for that matter.
Kairi: “I know you both love and hate your dad.” Mordred: “WHAT- THE FUCK ARE YOU SAYING?” Kairi: “C’mon, your noble phantasm is literally named after your dad. Nobody names their treasure after the name of someone they hate.”
Kairi, for the 50th time, being a better dad to Mordred than Artoria ever was.
…I DIDN’T EXPECT AN ATALANTA AND ACHILLES SCENE HOLY SHIT
I don’t think he manages to console her in the novel? At least not onscreen. THIS IS MUCH APPRECIATED.
He looks very concerned of her :((
Well makes sense. He just gave her a disappointing answer. Probably noticed she is already corrupted too. And he can do jack shit about it.
Oh Karna if looks could kill yours would kill anyone a thousand times
Shakespeare is literally anyone who’s been working on something overnight: “MORNING HAS COME. THE LAST MORNING HAS COME. IT ALL ENDS HERE.”
Semiramis chilling in her garden, probably missing Shirou. Most likely.
While everybody has a scene in this ‘dawn before the last battle’, Shirou is nowhere to be seen
I’ll bet my money he’s still hijacking the system of the grail, with Rihanna singing ‘Work Work Work Work Work’ in the background
Mordred’s idea to name a plane is “Saber” in red paint. Now who’s going to tell her that there is another red Saber with the same exact face as her?
Personally I think this episode doesn’t really convey the intensity of both Forvedge Magic Transfer arc and Last Dawn arc like there are so many things that I love from the intensity itself that isn’t present in the anime but you know, novel > screen adaptation is a given.
Still mad Jeanne isn’t present at the magic transfer and only spends time brooding.
NEXT: Remember that crazy plane vs flying fortress? Let’s do it.

2 Americans win econ Nobel for work on climate and growth
STOCKHOLM (AP) — Just a day after a United Nations panel called for urgent action on climate change, the Nobel Prize in economics was awarded Monday to one American researcher for his work on the economics of a warming planet and to another whose study of innovation raises hopes that people can do something about it. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the $1 million prize Monday to William Nordhaus of Yale University and to Paul Romer of New York University. Nordhaus, 77, who has been called “the father of climate-change economics,” developed models that suggest how governments can combat global warming.

Carbon tax gets renewed attention but still faces resistance
Advocates of taxing fossil fuels believe their position is stronger now because of an alarming new report on climate change and a Nobel Prize awarded to by two American economists, but neither development is likely to break down political resistance to a carbon tax. Previous alarms about global warming met with resistance from Congress and the White House. President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris agreement on climate change last year. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a panel of scientists brought together by the United Nations, warned in a report Monday that droughts, wildfires, coral reef destruction and other climate and environmental disasters could grow worse as soon as 2040, even with a smaller increase in temperatures than used to set the Paris targets.

Facebook wants people to invite its cameras into their homes
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Facebook is launching the first electronic device to bear its brand, a screen and camera-equipped gadget intended to make video calls easier and more intuitive. But it’s unclear if people will open their homes to an internet-connected camera sold by a company with a questionable track record on protecting user privacy. Facebook is marketing the device, called Portal, as a way for its more than 2 billion users to chat with one another without having to fuss with positioning and other controls. The device features a camera that uses artificial intelligence to automatically zoom as people move around during calls.

Global executives cooling on deals amid trade uncertainty
LONDON (AP) — Executives around the world are cooling to the idea of mergers and acquisitions in the face of rising trade tensions, notably between the U.S. and China, a leading adviser on international corporate deals said Monday. In its half-yearly assessment of corporate mergers and acquisitions, or M&A, EY found that only 46 per cent of executives are planning a takeover in the next 12 months. That’s down 10 percentage points from a year ago and marks the lowest level in four years. “Geopolitical, trade and tariff uncertainties have finally caused some dealmakers to hit the pause button,” said Steve Krouskos, a global vice chair at EY.

Box office top 20: ‘Venom,’ ‘A Star Is Born’
NEW YORK (AP) — Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man” spinoff “Venom” and Bradley Cooper’s acclaimed remake “A Star Is Born” fueled the best-ever October weekend at North American theatres. Both films debuted above expectations. “Venom,” starring Tom Hardy as the comic-book antihero, opened with $80.3 million, according to final studio figures Monday. Sony’s opening effort to create a larger universe for its available Marvel characters shrugged off terrible reviews to set a new box office record for an October debut. Warner Bros.’s anticipated “A Star Is Born,” starring Cooper and Lady Gaga, also opened resoundingly with $42.9 million. “Venom” attracted a largely male, younger audience, while “A Star Is Born” found predominantly female and older crowds.

Working past 65? It’s easier to do if you graduated college
NEW YORK (AP) — Close to one in five Americans who’s 65 or older is still working, the highest percentage in more than half a century. And the one who’s still working may be better off. As more and more Americans delay retirement, it’s those with a college degree that find it easiest to keep working past 65. Their less-educated peers, meanwhile, are having a more difficult time staying in the workforce. It’s a crucial distinction because financial experts say both groups would benefit from working an extra year or more to improve their retirement security. By staying on the job, older Americans can build up their savings, which in too many cases are inadequate.

2,700 workers at major Hawaii hotels join national strike
HONOLULU (AP) — Workers at some of Hawaii’s most iconic hotels are joining a national strike. About 2,700 Marriott employees on Oahu and Maui on Monday joined the strike that began last week in Boston, San Francisco and other cities. They work at four Waikiki properties operated by Marriott, including The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, an historic institution famous for its pink exterior. Workers at the Sheraton Maui are also striking. Waikiki Beach Marriott workers are not currently striking. Workers are picketing the properties. Leaders of the Unite Here Local 5 union say they have not reached agreement with management on a union demand for workers to be paid enough so they only need one job to support themselves.

The Next Phase Of NBA Superteam Technology: Creating One From Scratch
When healthy, San Antonio Spurs swingman Kawhi Leonard is a card-carrying MVP candidate and one of the game’s premier all-around talents. But here’s the thing: Leonard hasn’t really been healthy since the 2017 playoffs, when he landed awkwardly on Zaza Pachulia’s foot in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals. Between that season-ending ankle sprain and a mysterious quad injury that sidelined Leonard for all but nine games of the 2017-18 season — fueling rumors of a growing rift with the Spurs organization — most of the recent headlines about Leonard have been over rehab schedules and locker-room turmoil, not his on-court brilliance.
Friday’s report that Leonard wants a trade out of San Antonio was the latest (and most significant) piece of news in that department yet. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes and Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard would prefer to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, which might help lay the groundwork for a superteam featuring Leonard, LeBron James and Paul George. These rumors were enough to cause a spike in the Lakers’ playoff futures, where they now have 6-1 odds of winning the 2018-19 title — after winning just 35 games last season. But while that development would shift the paradigm, would this Big Three really be able to challenge the Warriors for supremacy in the West? And are the Lakers even the team that can offer the best package in return for Leonard?
If L.A. does manage to reel in the trio of stars, it would finally replenish the Lakers’ supply of future Hall of Famers, a resource the franchise mined for championship runs almost continuously from the 1940s through the 2000s (before Kobe Bryant retired to become an Oscar-winning filmmaker). It would also represent a brand new kind of Big Three, one made entirely from scratch. Up until very recently, history’s top three-star arrangements came together at least semi-organically, with one (if not two) of the members already on the roster before the third piece of the puzzle was added. Even in newer cases such as the 2010-11 Miami Heat, you usually needed at least one existing player on the roster to play Dwyane Wade’s role and help recruit other stars to join up.
To illustrate this, here’s a list of just about every notable1 NBA Big Three since the ABA merger, along with how many of its members were already on the team before the final member joined:
A Kawhi-LeBron-PG-13 Big Three would be unique

With Leonard coming from San Antonio, James from Cleveland and George from Oklahoma City, this would be the first Big Three we could find that formed with three newcomers all meeting in a new city. Things have been trending in that direction for a while: Although the vast majority of Big Threes in the 1980s and ’90s were formed by adding a third star to a two-man core, plenty of recent Big Threes have seen two new faces joining one existing star’s squad. But this would be a new Big Three experiment that pushes the boundaries of how they can be formed even further.
If the Lakers do manage to haul in Leonard, George and James, their new team would instantly be good enough to at least give the Warriors some competition in the Western Conference next season. Let’s mix our CARMELO projections, which use historical comparisons to model out a potential career arc for each current NBA player, with the L.A. superteam scenario detailed here by my colleague Kevin Pelton. In it, he assumes the Lakers sign James and George with their cap room, and that San Antonio accedes to a trade that sends Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Luol Deng’s onerous contract to the Spurs in exchange for Leonard. Here’s how CARMELO thinks that team looks on paper:
What a Lakers superteam might look like

CARMELO would expect that team, with a projected efficiency margin of plus-5.9 points per 100 possessions, to win about 54 games next season, even with stray waiver-wire pickups logging 10 percent of the team’s available minutes. The team would also have the star power of a bona fide championship contender, with James arguably ranking as the best player in the league,2 Leonard capable of snagging MVP votes and George checking in as a five-time All-Star by the age of 28. There would be questions about fit — since James, Leonard and George overlap in both position and skill set — and no guarantees about Leonard’s health. But this Big Three would certainly vault L.A. back into the championship conversation, where it hasn’t resided in a while.
However, before these Laker bros start making plans for a parade down Figueroa Street next June, it’s fair to ask whether the Lakers are really the most likely destination for Leonard. Although Leonard may want to play in L.A., he’s also still under contract with the Spurs for one more season, so San Antonio still controls where he’d eventually end up landing. And if they can help it, I’m guessing Gregg Popovich and R.C. Buford would prefer not to set a superteam up for the franchise that’s faced the Spurs in 34 playoff games since San Antonio’s dynasty began in the late nineties.
Moreover, Los Angeles may not even have the best package to offer the Spurs in a deal for Leonard. Our colleagues at ESPN.com put together their seven favorite potential Leonard trades, including the Lakers’ Ball/Kuzma/Deng swap mentioned above. For each of those scenarios, I added up CARMELO’s five-year upside values, which project a player’s wins above replacement over the next five seasons with negative-value comparable players zeroed out.3 According to that measure, L.A.’s deal is among the best San Antonio might be able to get — but it has competition from Miami, Toronto, Philadelphia and others:4
Who will teams offer in exchange for Kawhi?

Source: ESPN.com
Injury status notwithstanding, superstars like Leonard don’t come up for grabs on the trade market often, and where they end up landing can often shape the destiny of the league. If Leonard does ultimately team up with James and George, the resulting Big Three would indeed reshape the NBA championship picture for years to come. The financials of such a deal are tricky, though doable. What’s unknown now is the desire of Leonard, James and George to play together — a necessary component, since the latter two are free agents — and whether the Spurs would be willing to trade their star to a rival team in the West. In other words, this Big Three is unlikely as the situation currently stands. But just the same, we’ve seen stranger things than this happen during the NBA’s summer silly season. Stay tuned.
