So this is in no way meant to be some kind of saviorism post, but after yesterday when people were talking about diversity in women's Hockey I got thinking, and then I saw the photo posted of Arsenal's roster. I was honestly a little shocked I hadn't ever really thought too deeply about the diversity of a team but that is most definitely due to me being white and not having to think of that. So I looked deeper ( I also want to say now that my numbers may not be a hundred percent correct, you can't always know someone's ethnicity or racial identity but I have done my best to look and be as sure as I can). Arsenal while not the worst at diversity is second to the bottom with Everton having as far as I can tell ZERO players of color. I understand the argument of well they are in England. But when other teams like Manchester City are able to diversify their rosters it doesn't really feel fair to use that excuse when it comes to teams like Arsenal, especially as they have similar financial standings. I just was super caught off by this, I would personally think a team would benefit from looking as broadly around the world as they can but it seems some teams don't see a necessity in individuals who have lived varying lives, and I guess it's up to you to figure out how you feel about that. I am happy to look at NWSL teams, I'm not oblivious to the fact that the team I follow is itself super white.
So below will be the list in order from lowest to highest percentage. I should have been doing homework but I've done this instead.
Everton - 0 percent
Arsenal - 8 percent
Leicester City - 9 percent
Bristol City - 11 percent
Liverpool - 13 percent
Aston Villa - 15 percent
Brighton and Hove Albion - 18 percent
Manchester United - 21 percent
West Ham United - 23 percent
Tottenham Hotspur - 25 percent
Chelsea - 27 percent
Manchester City - 30 percent
