#Repost @raviamarzupa with @use.repost 🖤 ・・・ How Great Thy Use. This passage is from a wonderful story/poem by William Blake. In it, a young maiden named Thel is lamenting her mortality and in an effort to make sense of it, she talks to several other characters, The Lilly of the Valley (a small flower), a cloud, a worm, and a clod of dirt. She then passes into the underworld of the dead. After finding her own grave and more unsettling, existential questions, she shrieks and escapes back to her familiar valley and to her familiar mind. The particular passage on this print is from the conversation she has with the Cloud. She recognizes the gift that the cloud offers to the world when it dies, in the form of rain, but she sees no purpose for herself when she dies: “Without a use this shining woman liv’d, Or did she only live to be at death the food of worms?” And the cloud responds by saying, “Then if thou art the food of worms, O virgin of the skies, How great thy use, how great thy blessing! Every thing that lives, Lives not alone, nor for itself; fear not, and I will call The weak worm from its lowly bed, and thou shalt hear its voice.” It’s a great piece. I recommend it! i want more bella overhearing carlisle in his library telling rosalie how regretful he is about Victorian medicine and the laudanum era. i want more reminiscing on the leeches, or the period of time when doctors were like “man, cigarettes are great for fetuses, keep on puffin’ muffin,” where is all of that, tell me?!

Can I request an imagine where the reader is a vampire and runs into Edward in the woods and they've never met before but Edward and the reader have a mind-melding moment where he recognizes a lot of himself in her and he questions what he has with Bella?
In Another Life
A light wind whipped your cold cheek, spilling your hair across your face as you watched the sun glint its last beam above the mountain range before you. Your skin glittered back in response. The sky melded brilliant shades of magenta and lavender - and that new color you’d never known before your new life that couldn’t be given a name.
You were lost for awhile, grounded by the gravity of the beauty around you. You stood at the cliff face long after the sun had departed and the night had illuminated the sky with its galaxy of stars. The full moon left you feeling hollow somehow and the longing made you restless again.
You took a few gentle steps forward allowing gravity to pull you back to the Earth. You felt, just for a moment, like you were a part of the night’s sky. You launched yourself into a sprint, enjoying the caress of dirt on your bare feet. Your mind flooded with each detail of the forest as you moved through it without a trace. You wondered then if you were real at all.
The thought was nearly distracting enough for you to miss the instinct to defend yourself - just nearly.
You suddenly felt the presence of another predator and froze in place. You poised yourself involuntarily. You thought in that moment how strange it was that your body was not always your own.
The footfall approached you quickly, with even more speed than you had anticipated. You calibrated the movements and sounds easily and in an instant knew you were being met with another of your kind. Your body tensed more firmly, though the vampire slowed their pace as they closed in on you. Strange, you thought, that they would slow themselves to a mortal pace.
You waited impatiently as you stared through the thick of the trees until you saw him for the very first time.
His stature was strong and confident, but unimposing. His reddish hair was apparent, even in the moonlight that filtered through the ancient pines. His bright, golden eyes struck you in a way you couldn’t explain. You felt as though your heart had suddenly began to beat again. You brought a hand to your chest and parted your lips to speak, but his smile stopped your words. A short breath escaped you and oddly, you felt a sensation you knew only in your mortal life. The vulnerability you felt was not composed of fear, but of faith.
He had stopped a good distance from you, his pensive eyes locked on yours. He seemed deep in thought, raptured the same way you seemed to be. The curiosity burned you.
“Hello,” he said gently. His words felt like velvet caressing your skin. He was careful to keep his distance and continued to move in slight, humanlike ways.
You studied him silently for a moment, before replying a breathy, “Hello.”
“I apologize,” he said, sheepishly, running a hand through his already tousled hair. “I didn’t expect to run into anyone here. My family and myself haven’t come across another of our kind in quite some time.”
“Your family?” You questioned.
He nodded, smiling a crooked, gentle smile. “Yes,” he replied. “My wife, father, and a few others make up our coven here.”
You mulled his words over in your mind. There was something in the words he spoke that made you feel another lost emotion. You couldn’t quite remember what the pang you felt was called. How strange, you thought, that you could forget something with your perfect mind.
He waited patiently, but broke the silence again. “Are you passing through?”
His tone was polite to conceal concern. You smiled gently, but you weren’t sure why you had the urge to comfort him. “I am,” you said. “I’ll be on my way. I apologize for the interruption.”
You wanted to move, to begin your exit, but you weren’t in control of yourself; your feet refused to carry you away. Your eyes were fixated on his. You caught a glimmer of sadness in his eyes, too, as he studied you.
“You’re welcome here,” he said softly. “No need to apologize.” He moved closer to you then, removing some of the distance between you. As he approached he said, “I’m Edward Cullen.”
“Cullen,” you laughed lightly, “Carlisle. I should have guessed.”
Edward seemed surprised, “You know my father?”
“Your father,” you matched his crooked-smile. “I’ve not met him myself. Though my creator has spoken of him fondly, and in jest.”
You thought of the stories you’d heard of Carlisle, the vampire with an insatiable desire to cure himself and those around him of temptation. You thought it sounded rather like a cult.
Edward chuckled, seemingly in response, “I suppose Carlisle is a bit strange to our kind, but then we all are.” Edward shrugged, gesturing toward himself. His golden eyes illuminated with a new glimmer.
“You’re out here hunting then,” you surmised, smelling the fresh blood of an animal. “Alone?”
Edward nodded, taking another half step as a human would in conversation. It made you want to fidget, yourself. You brushed hair from your face.
“Strange,” he said. “I know.”
You shrugged, “I’ve not tried it myself. Though, I could see why you’d want to.”
His eyebrow arched, “You do?”
You nodded. “I’m quite new to this life,” you looked down at your feet. “So I feel rather close to my humanity in a sense. Feeling closer every day.”
“I’ve found our kind feels quite the opposite in the beginning,” Edward sounded surprised again. “Perhaps more related to God than man.”
You shrugged and brought your gaze back to his. “Perhaps I’ve never felt like either.”
He stood, silently searching for something in your eyes. It made you feel another pang of humanity. Had your heart begun to beat again? Your hand was at your chest again. Neither of you broke your gaze.
“Edward?” you breathed.
The sound of his name on your lips seemed to startle him.
“Yes?” He replied.
“Are you closer to God or man?” Your words were above a whisper. You moved closer to Edward, your body still not your own.
He looked pensive, still firmly studying you. He didn’t answer, but something in his expression made you believe he was whatever you were.
As if you had spoken your sentiment aloud, Edward froze, acting like a vampire for the first time since your meeting. His body was rigid and you felt the need to apologize again, but for what, you weren’t sure.
“My family is waiting for my return,” he said, his eyes pained.
You nodded, fixed in place. “Goodbye, Edward.”
Edward turned slowly, humanly, toward the exit of the clearing. You watched him walk away and caught yourself wanting to follow.
He turned back to you quickly, his eyes boring into yours one last time as he spoke your name with grit and regret.
Your endless future rolled out in front of you as he disappeared into the night. How tortuous, you thought, that all that time had passed before you and how many things you had lost in it.
Had you told him your name?

Hi omg I just found your blog and can you please please please write part 2 or whatever of "In another life", it was so good it can't end there, they must hvae realised that they were mates!! Haha sorry lots of love
Part 2 - In Another Life
The Story Ended Where It Should Have Started
Years wore on your mind, but not your body. You had made mixed trails around the world, visiting every place you had wished you’d seen in your mortal life, and so many more you never knew to think of. You fulfilled every whim, every fleeting thought that passed through you, and yet, you felt a bitter ache for the one thing you vowed to never act on. You had thought time was no longer your keeper, but you had somehow become tethered, anchored, leashed to a single spot in it.
You thought now, as you did each day, of the spectacular boy. You sighed, leaning over the table to rest your head on your hand. A faint smile crossed your lips as you realized how simply your emotions were now tied to your actions. How amazing, you thought, that a chance meeting could change you so intrinsically.
The rain began to puddle more intently in the cobblestones at your feet, and so you left your untouched coffee at the table before exiting out from under the awning of the small café. Paris had served you well. You walked out into the rain and savored each drop as you contemplated your destination.
The longing you always felt echoed inside of you. The one place you wanted to be, was the only place eternally barred from you. You stopped and closed your eyes and thought of him. How grateful you had become for the perfect image of him in your memory. It was your only solace.
You took a deep breath and opened your eyes, clearing the rain from your lashes. And for the first time in decades, you questioned if you were dreaming.
He didn’t speak. He was drenched, his white button-down clung to his chest, his auburn hair was saturated and falling in his face. His expression was flat, but his golden eyes burned with intensity. His body trembled.
You were just as far apart as you had been in the clearing that day. You wondered if you would ever close the distance; you questioned if you would ever find peace.
“I heard you,” he said finally.
You trembled, too.
“I’ve fought it myself,” he said, his expression pained, remorseful. “The pull, the anguishing pull.” His hands clenched into fists.
You didn’t understand him, but you felt him. “Edward, I-“
“I’ve never felt this way before,” he agreed, angry. He was still fighting himself. His words were breathless.
“Why are you here?” You demanded, angry that he had come to find you now.
“This is wrong,” Edward growled, gritting his teeth.
“Wrong?” you yelled. “Why are you here, Edward?”
He moved quickly, but mortally, toward you. He stopped a few yards away. “This has gone on too long.”
But how could he know how you felt unless he felt it, too? Did he burn the same way? How could he? How could he suffer as you had trying to stay away? You looked into his amber eyes and saw your reflection there; you wished to stay forever in that reflection. A rush charged through you at the thought.
He shivered again, fists tightening. Did he feel it too?
“This is impossible,” Edward hissed, venom in his words.
“How did you find me here?” You argued.
“Fate,” he scoffed. “As fate would have it.”
You recounted every day without him, since him, that you thought of him; that spectacular boy. Your mind raced through each concocted image, each passing thought of him you’d kept with you for decades. And somehow, you knew, he had the kept the same of you. The lost time echoed in the space between you.
Did he feel the hollowness too?

i feel like bella’s adrenaline rush phase in new moon has a more scientific explanation than what smeyer gives us. it’s less about the whole “i’m losing my mind and wanna hear edward” and more about being biologically human. like soldiers that come home from war, after being exposed to experiences where your adrenaline is constantly at a high, going back to a regular life makes you really depressed. your body is used to the high of danger. bella and edward’s entirely relationship was built on danger. bella wasn’t crazy, thanks smeyer for taking another dig at a female character

are we ever going to talk about the fact that the ripped apart vampire pieces seem to still live on, seemingly to no end?? cause riley’s hand was totally crawling around after seth ripped it off in eclipse and now all I can think about is the cullens keeping riley’s hand around as a pet like thing from the addams family

2003 Sides of a Coin
Happy (belated because of a queue issue) Annual Twilight Gift Exchange to the lovely and brilliant @randomdemi. So sorry this is so long overdue, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
For your reading pleasure, a continuation on my Rosalie Hale series, the first of which you can read here: 1977 Homecoming - but it’s totally unnecessary, since this little bit is drummed up just for you!
A very merry January to you @randomdemi, and thank you to the splendid @twilight-secret-gift-exchange for another Twilight filled holiday season.
Without further ado:

2003 Sides of a Coin
I caught a glimpse of disdain in Edward’s expression. It was fleeting, and if I hadn’t been looking for it, I would have missed it. He flashed his eyes in my direction then, a more prominent scowl beginning to form where the disdain had been. I scowled back with more fervor. Esme caught our silent argument and interjected.
“Would you two try to control your tempers?” Esme pleaded. It was rather fruitless.
“She’s impossible,” Edward complained.
I changed my expression to a gentle pout and tried to keep my tone pleasant. “I just find it rude when the two of them have their secret little sessions and decide for the rest of us what we’ll be doing for the next decade.” My pleasant tone cracked and the venom seeped into my words.
Alice brought herself out of her reverie and into the present again, but didn’t speak. Instead, she turned to Carlisle.
He nodded briefly. “Rosalie,” he said, turning to me. “I’m sure your sister considers your future happiness.”
Oftentimes, it felt like we were all stage puppets, acting out scenes from Alice’s mind, with Edward as her co-director - rather, her co-conspirator. This conversation, too, was orchestrated exactly how they wanted it to be. It didn’t matter what response I had in mind - Alice had already seen the ending of the argument, and she would win as she always did.
“Not everything is about winning,” Edward gripped, pulling my thoughts from my mind as I conjured them.
I sighed, a soothing calm rolling over me. Acceptance? I knew it was false, too, and turned my now flat expression to Jasper. His always somber eyes were guilty.
Another orchestration.
I used what little free-will I had left to get up from the hearth of the fireplace and head for the door.
“Rose,” Emmett reached for me, but I was already gone.
“Let her have her space,” Esme said, quietly.
I caught the date of the calendar on my way out; it was January 10th, 2003.
Once I was out of their mental reach, I felt my freedom return. My mind was my own sanctuary, my emotions were my own to make, and my future was at my discretion. In the company of the ancient balsam poplars and black spruces, I felt small. I wondered if the trees only deepened my depression. I ran my hand down the gritted bark of the tall, exquisite pine, finding myself sorry for us both. We were destined for living a millennia, stuck in one place. Alaska wasn’t good for my health, I thought - if I had any health at all.
The snow was a deep blanket on the earth, but the sun was beamed between the clouds as snowflakes whispered their way out of the thick of the trees. I got lost in the shimmer of my skin as the sun caught me like a chandelier casting a kaleidoscope of colored light. I pulled a curl of my hair into my palm and watched it slide between my fingers. It felt like the sands of time.
I knew it was only a matter of time before my family would come for me. I heard the footfall a few miles away and thought of making an escape; it would be pointless and the chase would end in the inevitable. Though, I imagined they would send Emmett or Carlisle to bring me home, not Jasper.
This was not a move on the chessboard I was familiar with. Alice’s knight lurched to a mortal pace as he came into view. He could sense my surprise.
“I wasn’t asked to come find you,” Jasper said. It sounded honest, at least - but I knew I was in the presence of a snake charmer.
“I’m sure you’re here at your own accord,” I said flatly.
He grinned gently, placing his hands in his pockets. His shoulders were hunched toward his body, caving him inward. He looked uncomfortable, as though he was struggling with himself.
“If you’re here to turn me into a Stepford Wife and provide the antidote to my non-complacency, let’s get it over with,” I sighed. It was pointless to fight the inevitable.
“That’s not why I’m here,” Jasper insisted.
“I’d rather you cut the pretense,” I countered. “It’s better if I comply first. I’ll be better able to convince myself I wanted it.”
I squared my shoulders and closed my eyes, waiting for his calming bliss to wash over me. I remembered the feeling of laudanum, but the sensation didn’t come.
I opened my eyes, and he shrugged.
“That’s not why I’m here,” he repeated.
He was certainly testing my patience. “Then why are you here?”
“I wanted to be honest with you,” he said softly. “I wanted to let you know that I feel it, too.”
My head tilted involuntarily. “Alice?” I questioned.
It was difficult to believe. Alice was his everything, his Demi-god in Chanel. There was no world I could understand in which Jasper questioned Alice; no world in which Jasper held anything but reverence for her.
He felt my intense surprise and chuckled lightly. “I know it’s not easy,” he said, his southern drawl twinged in his words, “to have your whole world held in her tiny hands.” He shook his head as he looked down at his feet. “Sometimes, I feel helpless. No, directionless? Like all the thinking has already been done for me.”
I wondered how much Edward had spoon-fed him. Jasper was sounding more like a mind-reader than an empath.
“I’m telling you the truth,” Jasper said. “I have nothing to gain in lying to you now. I just thought you’d want to know, you’re not alone.”
I waited for a moment, before a smile broke on my lips. “Exactly what a liar would say,” I chided.
He smiled back, “I suppose so.”
I took a deep breath and admired the glint his skin cast on the unbothered snow. I shook my head. “I struggle with keeping myself in my family,” I explained. “It’s difficult to surrender myself — to give in to it all.”
I wondered why I suddenly felt the need to share.
“I have a hard time just fitting in,” Jasper shook his head, too. “It takes more strength than I have, at times.”
“You’re a part of our family, my brother,” I argued. “You don’t have to try so hard.”
“You don’t have to give yourself up, either,” he retorted. “You’re a part of our family. The way you are.”
I pictured us there, Jasper and I, two halves of a coin. One side desperately wishing to fit the mold, the other wanting to be an original.
“I suppose the grass is always greener,” I said softly.
“Come home with me?” Jasper extended his hand.
I dredged forward, taking his palm in two of mine as we walked slowly toward home.
“What’s so wrong with Forks?” He asked.
I shrugged, “Nothing in particular. I’m not fond of the history, maybe. It wasn’t so interesting in the thirties.”
Jasper chuckled, “The dogs?”
“They’ll be long-gone by now,” I said. “Good riddance.”
He chuckled again. “A shame.”
“The novelty has worn for me.”
“Still, a little change-of-pace,” he shrugged.
“Just wait,” I added. “You’ll be itching for any small inkling of excitement after your first day of high school.”
He shook his head, “I’ll be preoccupied. I’m still not sure that I can.”
“Alice is,” I chuckled.
He rolled his eyes, “Resounding confidence.”
“I’m sure she’s right about you.” And I was sure he felt the confidence in my words.
Jasper smiled and squeezed my hands tighter in his. “What do you think of Jasper Hale?”
“I think Emmett and Alice would have something to say about it,” I joked.
He rolled his eyes again, but his tone was sincere. “I’d feel more confident in myself if you were there with me.”
It had been a lifetime since I had felt humbled. It was a strange sensation, foreign. I remembered then what it felt like to have a hitch in your throat, to have tears pool in your eyes. My body couldn’t feel those things, but my still heart did.
“Twins then?” I squeezed his hand in mine.
“Twins,” he agreed.
