nightshade and glaze are interesting because they reveal some limitations with probabilistic data models. adversarial inputs seem like something that will deter the most unscrupulous for-profit data scrapers and make generated images more easy to spot.

more interesting is the possibility of unintentionally poisonous inputs. training a model on its own outputs is known to cause text and image models to degrade. good luck sorting all that out, now that the flood gates have been unleashed. i guess mislabeled data counts here, which can be a matter of human or machine error.

even more interesting is if this paper turns out to be true and this summary holds up. transformer models converge on om with enough training.

the leaked "manifesto" of the nashville shooter will probably shock conservatives (who are probably more shocked by the use of the word "cracker" than by the homphobic slurs which were also included - the latter complicate the conservative media freak narrative) but it seems to me like the kind of thing a person who has been deeply traumatized - traumatized to the point of actual psychosis - by patriarchal conditioning would produce. the details of the shooter's life will probably never get any attention paid to them, even though the shooter grew up in a conservative cultural environment, in a patriarchal nuclear family, and went to a white christian school (the same school they shot up).

it's odd but maybe just a coincidence that the conservative media would dredge this up so soon after a minor conservative leader in alabama was outed as a transvestite and instead of living his truth was pushed by his immediate, local, cultural forces and patriarchal conditioning to publicly commit suicide instead.

conservative, patriarchal, cultures seem to produce insane people. failure to live up to patriarchal values that they themselves hold themselves to is a common thread with mass shooters. mass shooting as a fantasy is a way for young men to reclaim the masculinity which they believe is being denied to them. they are an outcome of indoctrination into patriarchy from birth to untimely death.

this is a very dark topic for a monday morning, but this has been on my mind for a while. it is strange to me to see someone who is a product of patriarchal social conditioning be held up as a cudgel against people who are trying to break that conditioning down and liberate people to be who they are naturally.
