hello everyone. sometimes i make this mistake called "thinking too hard about bnha" and then setsunas quirk torments me for two months and next thing you know im knee deep in scientific papers about tunicates. many such cases. horikoshi really made me have to work to integrate the lizard portion in, because her regeneration is nothing like lizard tail regeneration at all, actually

I don't believe red shoes theory and that quirkless people need to wear different shoes just because of a small pinky toe joint. However I also don't believe Izuku, Shigaraki and All Might wearing red shoes is coincidence either. I think it supports dfo theory. So, hear me out.

We saw All Might wore red shoes while he is at America. Who else was supposed to be in America, working? Hisashi Midoriya/AFO.

So, I believe Izuku and Shigaraki's shoes are similar because AFO bought the shoes for them from a quality brand located at America. And when he was young, All Might was simply using the shoes of the same brand while he was there. So the common point of the shoes are not they are comfortable for quirkless, they are from America.

After all we saw other quirkless characters too (Melissa, Aoyama etc.) and none of them wore red shoes like that. Current timeline All Might also doesn't wear it. Why would he change the shoes if they are the only ones comfortable for his pinky joint?

Another important point, we saw several times how Izuku didn't want to change the base of his hero suit since it was firstly made by Inko. And Izuku always wear the same shoes with his hero suit. Why?

Maybe it is because the shoes are a precious gift from his dad and just like he wears the suit because it reminds him his mom, he wears the shoes because they remind him his dad.

Also Izuku's shoes always look more sturdy to me when compared to Shigaraki's. AFO, are you picking favourites between your real son and adopted son, hmm?

not to knock any sandcastles over, but imo Re-Destro is as much as a father to Geten as Endeavor (pre-Kamino) is to his kids 😔🙏 i realize that it is tempting to think of a tiny Geten toddling after single father Re-Destro, but... then i would compare Re-Destro to All for One, in terms of picking up lost children off the streets and honing them into weapons for their cause.

(which actually makes a wonderful parallel to poke at in dfohiko twins verse! wow, can you imagine Rikiya being proud about having 'personally raised' Geten? but because he's unfortunately a product of his upbringing, he actually just followed in the steps of AFO, and became not a dad, but a father figure to try and impress?)

((he brags about having an adopted son to Toshinori when they have a reunion, and Toshinori restrains himself from pulling out his phone and showing off pictures of his new adopted son))

but let's look at the evidence for canon!

first and foremost, the line that 'confirms' that Re-Destro raised Geten.

"The few remaining [Himura branch] families and their members scattered, including myself. Which is when Re-Destro came upon me and brought me into the fold." (c387, Geten)

no age range indicated, unfortunately. if i threw a dart, though, between Dabi (age 23-24) and Rei (age... 44. not canon, but if it was younger, we'd probably be holding multiple knives to Endeavor's throat), i'd put Geten around mid-30s. just old enough to know he should flee and ditch the Himura name.

the phrase "into the fold" is, uh, not very familial. which leads me to my second quote.

"Elevating one's [Quirk] ability will be the only way to really live! Beyond that sheer strength... life has no value!" (c230, Geten)

this does not sound like a young man who had an easy upbringing! you say 'adopted,' i say 'recruited.' unlike with Sorahiko and Toshinori, i don't think Geten was staying in Re-Destro's spare bedroom, or even personally trained by him.

based off what Geten absorbed of the MLA's philosophies, i think Re-Destro chucked him into the MLA-equivalent of Bible camp and offhandedly directed Geten to become stronger in order to meet him again.

tl;dr I totally believe Geten wasn't brought to Re-Destro's attention until the MLA heard of the LoV, at which point they believed his ice (previously WAYYY too flashy to be of use for the MLA) could counteract Dabi's flames.

I agree with the villains not being responsible but are the kids responsible for the corrupt system?

Please do not twist my words.

Of course a bunch of 15/16 year olds aren't responsible for a corruption that existed long before they were even born. On many occasions I also reiterated that the kids suffer from that corruption as well, because the unfairness of the system goes both ways. If Shouto were to arrest Dabi, it would be his brother that he sends to jail. If Shouji were to capture Spinner, it would be a fellow mutant that he'd be complict in silencing. And that's without touching how quirk privilege was shown to affect them directly as well. Think of Deku, Monoma, Shinsou etc.

But the kids are also the next generation of heroes. It is possible to not blame them for the current social problems while still expecting better of them.

The issue here is that they forgot their own victimhood far too quickly. Deku lived longer as a quirkless pariah than he did as All Might's protege. He should know what it's like to have the adults around you think you're worthless if you can't measure up to flashy quirks, even if you're aware of your own potential, and yet he still chose Endvr's side over Touya's simply because Enji is a hero and Touya isn't.

"Enji is trying to do better and you aren't". Well, kid, that's because you gave Enji a chance to do better. You didn't immediately put him in jail without a trial. Yet you heroes keep reserving that treatment to "villains." Where is Dabi's second chance?

So.

I'm not stating the the kids can be held at the same level as the people who literally educated them to think in black and white terms. I'm saying that it's possible to hold them accountable for not wanting to think past their hero education. Dabi literally says this on screen. Hero kids don't want to think for themselves. Nagant reiterates it when she says that Deku is the product of the propaganda the Commission worked so hard to teach in schools.

Even when faced with the evidence that their system isn't an utopia, they don't want to concede that heroes can do wrong.

We can hold them accountable for that, even if that corruption is not their fault. They lived through similar enough circumstances as their villains foils to understand why the villains act the way they do, but they choose to perpetrate the teachings of the prev gen instead of actually breaking the cycle. And in the process, ironically, they're defending a system that harmed them too, and only values them now that they're exploitable.
