Raoul understudies in Scandinavian replica productions
Glenn Edell: Understudied the role of Raoul in Stockholm 2016-2017, and went on several times.
John Martin Bengtsson: A rare double take, as he understudied the role of Raoul in both Stockholm (2016-2017) and Copenhagen (2018-2019). However, I don’t think he ever went on in either productions. Partly because he covered (and performed) the role of the Phantom in both productions. In between he was also principal Raoul in the non-replica production in Gothenburg.
Sebastian Harris: He was principal Raoul in Copenhagen 2018-2019, but also principal André. I’m in doubt on whether he ever went on as Raoul. But as long as John Martin Bengtsson did not, that must mean principal Christian Lund had a helluva stamina.
Mikkel Thorning: He understudied the role of Raoul in Copenhagen from 2000-2003, and is thus one of the original Danish understudies. He went on several times.
Emil Ritter: Understudy in the 2009 revival in Copenhagen. He performed at least a handful of performances towards the end of the season, when the principal was out sick for a week or so.
Björn Olsson: Known as a Raoul legend in later years. He was principal Raoul in Basel, Hamburg and Copenhagen, but he actually started his Phantom career as u/s Raoul in Stockholm 1994-1995.
Mathias Hedegaard: He was, along with Mikkel Thorning, the original Raoul understudy in Copenhagen. But unlike Thorning, he only stayed for a year or so. He did however join the theatre’s annual concert tour for their sponsors, where he did the Raoul numbers in costume (and where the photo is from).
Bengt Nordfors: Understudy, you ask? Wasn’t he the original Raoul principal in Stockholm? Yes indeed. BUT: he returned as a cover for the role in 1994. Thus, also an understudy.
Jan Kyhle: He was the original understudy in Stockholm, 1989-1991. In 1992 he became principal Raoul, which he remained until the production closed in 1995.
Not depicted: Mattias Palm (Copenhagen 2009)

About Tjockare Än Vatten säsong 1// Thicker than water season 1 Thicker Than Water is a 10-part drama series set on the scenic island of Åland. Three siblings are reunited at their mothers guesthouse at the start of the summer. However, things take a nasty turn when their mother, Anna-Lisa Waldemar takes her own life, leaving the siblings- eldest brother Lasse, middle-child Oskar and younger sister Jonna, to manage the guesthouse alongside Oskars wife Liv, eventually discovering that her will requires them to spend the season running the business before they can inherit it from her. Secrets from 20 years earlier and more recent times are uncovered, as well as several dead bodies, as the siblings attempt to overcome their differences and their past for the sake of their mother- and the money.
A second series has been confirmed, recorded, and released in Sweden, being broadcast on SVT. The second series takes place 6 months after the first series. Currently it is not known when season two will be available to watch in the UK.

NENT Group launches Börje Salming biopic as latest original series
The dramatic career of Börje Salming, one of Sweden’s greatest-ever ice hockey players, is the subject of the next Viaplay Original from Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group), the Nordic region’s leading streaming company. Valter Skarsgård (‘Arn’) takes on the title role in an ambitious English-language production that depicts Salming’s trailblazing journey from his humble roots north of the Arctic Circle to become an NHL legend. The show is created and directed by Amir Chamdin, whose most recent series for NENT Group, ‘Partisan’, was awarded Best Series at Canneseries 2020.
The first Swedish player inducted into the prestigious Hockey Hall of Fame, Börje Salming broke numerous records, captured the hearts of millions of fans and paved the way for countless Europeans to forge careers in the NHL, the world’s best ice hockey league. Salming played over 1,100 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs across 16 seasons (1973-1989), notching 148 goals and 620 assists, and in 2017 was named one of the 100 greatest NHL players in history.
Börje Salming: “It’s flattering and exciting that my story will become a series. When we began discussing this project, I reflected over everything that’s happened in my life, from taking care of myself at a young age after my father passed away, to the journey from Kiruna to the NHL, and I realised there’s a lot of screen potential there. It will be really exciting to see the show when it’s ready.”

Filming will begin in 2022 and the series will premiere exclusively on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service. The show is written by Martin Bengtsson (‘Agent Hamilton’) and is produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production.
