kim jiwoong // 김지웅

• jiwoong would be a very relaxed and trusting boyfriend

• maybe it's because he's older and more mature or maybe it's just the way he is

• either way you're not complaining

• being in a relationship with someone who doesn't get jealous over every little thing you do is so calming to you

• you used to be in relationships with guys who would get jealous over every little text or every little conversation you had with other guys

• and with jiwoong you don't have to walk on eggshells which is one of the reasons why you love him so much

• ofc he still gets jealous from time to time

• like when he sees another guy getting to close to you or touching you inappropriately

• but even then he tries to remain calm and handle the situation like an adult

• he would let you know that he's uncomfortable with the guy touching you like that/being so close to you

• and ofc you would hear his wishes out and be sure to prevent situations like that in the future

• when it comes to skinship jiwoong can't help himself

• he just can't keep his hands off of you

• he always either holds hands with you or has his hands wrapped around your waist

• he just wants you to know how much he loves you and for him skinship is the best way to show it to you

• and he loves pda because he also wants to show people around you how much he loves you and that you're his girl/boy

• despite his love for skinship he's not the most clingy boyfriend

• zhang hao would be a very possessive boyfriend

• but a part of him sees you as his "property" and i mean that in the sweetest way possible

• he isn't toxic or anything he just wants everyone else to know that you're his and his only

• being a possessive boyfriend he also gets jealous very easily

• like if another guy just looks at you for one second zhang hao is gonna give him a glare that no one wants to experience in their lives

• he just can't stand it when other guys flirt with you especially when they know that you have a boyfriend

• in these cases he gets kinda bitchy and shady because he can't understand how someone knowingly flirts with someone when they're taken

• so when he sees someone flirting with you he tries to make it as obvious as possible that he's your boyfriend

• he will kiss you in front of the guy and wrap is arm around your shoulder

• just basically does a lot of skinship to show that you're his

• and this is a win win situation, cause not only does he get to piss the other guy off by letting him know you're taken but he also LOVES skinship and uses any excuse to touch you

• he also loves pda cause he wants potential "threats" to know that you're off limits

• he also just loves showing you off to other people

• like "look at my boyfriend/girlfriend. they're so hot"

• when it comes to skinship i feel like zhang hao's favorite type is cuddling

• but something about cuddling with you makes him feel like he can protect you from anything

• idkw but something tells me that hanbin would be the cutest boyfriend ever

• like you guys are just that dream couple

• you two have that relationship that everyone else wants to have

• hanbin would be a very calm and relaxed boyfriend

• and by that i mean that he trusts you completely and doesn't get jealous easily

• he knows how much you love him and that you would never cheat on him or anything

• and quite frankly, he's just really confident in your relationship

• like when someone tries to flirt with you he actually finds it kinda funny

• cause he knows that guy doesn't stand a chance against the relationship the two of you have

• there's just so much mutual trust and admiration

• however when he feels like someone takes it too far flirting with you he can do a 180 and become really pissed

• and that's a hanbin no one ever wants to experience and few people do; as long as you don't flirt with his boyfriend/girlfriend you're good

• i feel like hanbin wouldn't be a very clingy boyfriend

• don't get me wrong, he loves skinship, but not as much as other guys do

• he loves cuddling, kissing, etc. from time to time

• but what he values most is communication and the conversations the two of you have

• you have deep conversations about controversial topics

• you two might have different opinions on certain things sometimes

• but that doesn't matter; you respect each other for your insight and honesty

• you can talk about everything without feeling judged by the other

• and that's one of the things that makes your relationship so great

• but back to the topic skinship

• sometimes all he needs after a long day is a comfy cuddling session with you

• but it has to be in private, cause if there's one thing he doesn't like it's pda

• and when you two are alone he can get really clingy (even though he's usually not)

• so matthew is a tough nut to crack because i'm never sure whether he's more like matchuu or woohyun oppa in real life

• my guess is that he's kind of a mix between both

• i feel like matthew is the perfect balance between a possessive boyfriend and one who's pretty much indifferent to who you talk to

• he doesn't forbid you from talking to any of your guy friends but he still lets you know that sometimes he's a bit uncomfortable with it

• he completely trusts you and knows that you would never cheat on him but he doesn't trust other guys

• so he gets jealous pretty easily but not in a petty way

• he straight up tells you when he's jealous and you two have a mature conversation about it

• he just doesn't see the point in hiding his feelings from you or letting his anger out on you

• when it comes to showing affection he's no different

• be that pda or skinship in general

• he can't keep his hands off of you whether it's in private or in public

• when you're in public he genuinely doesn't care what other people think about the two of you kissing or cuddling

• to him you two are the only people there

• and when you're in private it's the same

• he just loves every kind of skinship and showing you his affection

• matthew doesn't have a favorite kind of skinship

• he could never choose between kissing you and cuddling with you

• both of these things are so precious and important to him

• and he's super clingy

• he literally wouldn't let you breathe if you didn't remind him from time to time that he can let go of you for a few minutes

• it almost feels like he's scared that you're gonna forget it if he doesn't remind you

• he would be the cutest boyfriend ever

• he's just so soft and sweet when it comes to you

• he's very calm and trusting, meaning he doesn't get jealous often and easily

• he just trusts you so much, he knows you would never cheat on him or hurt him in any way

• however that obviously doesn't mean that he never gets jealous

• and when he does it's not pretty

• because he tries not to bother you with his jealous thoughts and just lets it eat him up

• he's one of these people who like dealing with their problems on their own without involving others

• and eventually he'll become kinda sad and give you the silent treatment

• but when that happens you know what's going on and can try to resolve the situation

• you always tell him to just talk to you about it, but like i said he likes resolving these things on his own

• when it comes to skinship, i think taerae really loves it

• he loves cuddling with you, kissing you, i mean anything that means he can be close to you physically

• like i said, as long as he's physically close to you, there's nothing else he needs

• so he might act a little possessive sometimes

• and like i said, he gets jealous very easily

• but he tries not to show it because he wants to keep his cool in front of you but inside it's eating him up

• when it comes to skinship, he's one of the members who love it the most

• he just loves physical contact with you

• doesn't matter whether it's kissing you, cuddling with you, playing with your hair, etc

• however when he notices that you would love to hear him say it again after some time, he will do it

• gyuvin would be such a mess of a boyfriend

• and i mean that in a good way

• it's just that this boy is so overwhelmed by his feelings for you that he literally doesn't know what's happening half of the time

• this boy is a simp for you

• because of this, he's a pretty possessive and protective boyfriend

• he's just really scared that someone will steal you away from him cause he couldn't handle that

• he literally loves you so much, it's crazy

• like you're the whole world to him

• and the thought of you dating someone else would crush him

• so he's always acting pretty jealous and possessive

• when other guys are around you he tries to make sure they don't cross the line

• he also makes it apparent that he is your boyfriend by casually playing with your hands or hair

• but since this boy is a sucker for skinship he's not complaining

• he literally loves nothing more than skinship; it's his favorite thing ever

• gunwook would be a super possessive and protective boyfriend

• like if there was a second word for possessive in the dictionary it would be gunwook

• this boy just sees you as his "property" and i mean that in the nicest way possible haha

• he just lowkey has a thing for possession

• he's also super protective over you

• he wouldn't let anyone or anything hurt you in any way

• and if you get hurt by someone or something that person is gonna pay

• guys are also gonna pay for flirting with you or just looking at you

• he's an extremely jealous boyfriend; he gets jealous easily and fast and when he does it's gonna get ugly

• i literally think he would physically fight someone if it came down to it

• in his mind he's protecting something that's his (=you)

• i just hope for other guy's' sake that they don't try anything with you cause like i said, gunwook's not a guy you wanna make jealous

• gunwook is really into skinship and i mean like REALLY

• i feel like yujin would be a very awkward boyfriend at first

• just because this is his first real relationship and he's scared of doing something wrong somehow

• but once he gets used to it he would be a very calm and relaxed boyfriend

• even though he's still pretty young, his calm voice and attitude always help you cool down when your mad or upset about something

• and you guys have surprisingly deep conversations

• you often help him with his homework since he's busy with training, promotions and school and that way you can at least take a little burden off his shoulders

• i think yujin wouldn't be an extremely jealous boyfriend

• sure he gets jealous from time to time but not as jealous as some of the other members

• he trusts you and is confident in your relationship

• however when he does get jealous he's the type to let it eat him up

• he would clench his fists and look angry but he wouldn't confront anyone about it

• he doesn't wanna make a fuss and he doesn't want to upset you just because he can't control his feelings

• however you obviously notice this and talk to him about it cause resolving this issue with himself is not a solution

• i actually also feel like yujin wouldn't be the clingiest boyfriend ever (probably cause he's traumatized by gyuvin haha)

• he also just generally doesn't strike me as a person who's super into skinship

• he definitely loves skinship but most of the time you're the one initiating it

• even though sometimes, out of nowhere, he gets super touchy and clingy with you

• in these moments he turns into a completely different yujin

• and honestly you're not complaining

• his favorite kind of skinship is cuddling with you

• he obviously loves kissing too

• but there's just nothing more satisfying to him than you lying in his arms after a long day at school and work

• and you need that time too

• when it comes to pda yujin is SUPER shy and uncomfortable

• he just doesn't like showing any kind of skinship in public

• first of all it's nobody's business, second off all he feels judged by other people

• so pda just isn't his thing

• when it comes to "i love yous" yujin also isn't the most expressive guy

• he feels shy telling you about his feelings

• however if you're the one saying it first he'll say it back before you even get to finish your sentence

• all in all your relationship is really sweet and innocent

-he makes others shut up immediately as soon as they mention your height. Doesn't matter if they want to say something positive or negative, Reo won't let them say anything

-he knows you're insecure about your height because of your past, so he makes sure to never point it out unless you start talking about it first

-and when the topic does come up, he first listens to anything you say in case you need to vent, then he starts bombarding you with compliments about why it's so cool that you're taller than everyone else

-one time he took you along to a modelling thing specifically for tall people, and it that was what started making you feel more comfortable with your height!!

-let's be honest. He was one of those people who called you monster when you were younger. But he's sorry now, okay?

-he calls you his big monster but in the most affectionate way possible so you don't feel bad about your past anymore. He usually adds another word to it like "big pretty/handsome monster" or "big cuddly monster"

-he teases you about your height occasionally but always in a way that genuinely makes you laugh and doesn't trigger your insecurities!!

-since the way Bachira talks about your height is completely different from what you've always experienced, he helps you a lot with being less insecure about yourself

I wonder what Chris does when his tummy doesn't feel well... definitely whines like a baby but what else? What about Matt and Nick?

Chris:

Yeah, Chris is all whiny… just like an annoying child. He wanders around aimlessly — his hand pressed against his protruding midsection — going on and on about how badly he needs tummy rubs, and how he wishes someone would “just suck it up and caress his little belly” (his exact words). With the promise that he’ll stop whinging if someone — anyone — just gives it a good rub, the deal sounds promising enough. Chris wants you to believe that he’s only joking about it… that the voice he’s using is supposed to be the punchline… but, in all truth, you know that he’s incredibly desperate for those tummy rubs. All he wants right now is comfort and tender, human connection. Oh yeah… and he’s not holding back those farts at all😂. The man is loud and proud, when it comes to his butt-bombs… and he follows each one up with a hearty laugh.

Nick:

Nick can be a little bit bitchy when his tummy isn’t feeling so nice. He gets all quiet… almost robotic… and doesn’t want to be bothered. Don’t touch him, don’t talk to him, don’t say his name. Like… even having someone look in his general direction may start him on a passionate tirade😅. His belly is all big and tight — which makes him super insecure — and he tries his best to conceal it, any way that he can. Of course, his go-to move is to wear an oversized sweatshirt/T-shirt… but, just to be extra cautious, he keeps his arms wrapped tightly around his midsection, too. It may seem like he’s angry… but, in reality, he’s just laser-focused on maintaining his composure, and trying really hard not to let out a raunchy fart… or something worse. That would be mortifying! Really. The way he sees it, if he lets anyone else onto the fact the he’s not feeling so good, it’ll turn into this whole big thing… and he just doesn’t feel like dealing with any of that.

Matt:

Matt’s definitely a trooper… at least, when it comes to dealing with the uncomfortable feeling that’s turning somersaults in the pit of his gut. Sure, he may complain a bit… but, all in all, he’s the least disturbed of the three. He’s more worried about how Chris and Nick are doing than he is about himself — watching them closely, checking up on them, and making sure that they’re doing relatively fine… for the condition that they’re all in. He refuses to rub Chris’s belly… because that’s weird… but he only briefly hesitate, before asking the nearest person to take one for the team, and do whatever Chris asks of them. In his head, Matt’s racking his brain for what may have caused them to feel so bad — thinking over the entire day, to pinpoint exactly what it was. The second Chris starts acting a little too immature, or Nick gets overly-feisty, Matt is quick to chastise them both, and remind them that they’re not the only two idiots who are in pain. Maybe then, he uses his own pain to guilt them into behaving… but, truthfully, he’s not too worried about himself at all. As far as farting goes, he doesn’t dare. Chris and Nick are already handling their discomfort poorly… and, if Matt’s farts are really as bad as the other boys say they are, it’s in everyone’s best interest that he keeps them contained. Of course, it hurts his tummy, but he doesn’t make a big deal of it.

Reading He Who Drowned the World and honestly Baoxiang has no right to be as bitchy as he is about Ouyang squandering Esen's love or whatever. Baoxiang is genuinely convinced that Esen loathes him. No you dumb bitch, your brother loves you and the reason he's giving you a hard time is because he wants you to be safe and happy and healthy. Yeah, he sucks at expressing it, and his efforts are misguided (bc the toxic masculinity gender rolesis fucking up Esen as much as it's fucking up everyone else), but Esen very much does love Baoxiang deeply. Every time Baoxiang remembers a time when Esen "enjoyed his fear" or whatever, I can only think of these parts of Esen's POV from the first book:

Esen's first instinct is to defend his brother. The only reason he doesn't is bc Baoxiang leaves before he can. And Baoxiang glares at him bc he assumes that Esen agrees with Altan and won't defend him, but no, Esen WANTED to defend him and it's Baoxiang that took away his oportunity to do so.

And a bit later, we have this interaction. Baoxiang assumes (again) that Esen would hate him if he was gay, and immediately goes on the defensive. Meanwhile, Esen literally does not care about this except for how it would affect his brother's reputation. He's just WORRIED. He doesn't care if Baoxiang is gay or whatever, but he's deeply aware that if he IS it would put him in more danger. Because, again, he cares about his brother, and he hates seeing what he assumes is Baoxiang making his own life harder.

And it's heartbreaking bc Baoxiang will probably never realize how much Esen adores him. He's so jealous of Ouyang for having his brother's heart without realizing that Esen sees him as his beloved baby brother and is desperately trying to protect him from a world that he KNOWS is cruel to him. Baoxiang will never know that his greatest supporter and the only person that loved him unconditionally was Esen. And maybe it would be WORSE if he realized how dear he was to Esen, because the realization that all thise things that caused him pain were borne out of a deep, unconditional LOVE and not the disdain he's convinced himself Esen felt for him might break him. Baoxiang has deluded himself into simplifying Esen's feelings for him into those of hate and disdain because its so much harder to accept that the person you love the most has destroyed you out of love. Baoxiang is doing the exact same thing Ouyang does in convincing himself that he's unlovable and relishing in the world's response as a form of self-harm. And Esen, who is genuinely trying (and floundering horribly) is a great tool for Baoxiang to use to tear himself apart.

And, on the other hand, Esen will never realize how much damage his attempts to help Baoxiang caused. He loves him so much, bc that's his baby brother! It's his job to protect him! But Esen has been raised as the golden poster child of a Mongol Warrior Man, a perfect pinacle of masculinity, and is thus doomed to only being able to express his love and acceptance for Baoxiang through a tough love, lets sand down all the edges to remove friction approach. For him, pushing Baoxiang into a box IS an act of love. It's the act of saying I love and accept you, and so I will help you succeed in all the things you're bad at so that everyone will love you too. Except by doing this, he doesn't realize how awful he's being and how he's asking someone that CANT ever fit the mold to break himself in the attempt. He's a perfect Mongol Warrior Man after all, and as such he has never been given the tools to express his affection in a healthy way. He will never truly understand how much he's an asshole, not because he is lacking in love (as Baoxiang assumes) or because he is incapable of sympathizing (as ouyang thinks), but because understanding is not something allowed of him and his role in society. At the end of the day, Esen is as much a slave to his role as all the other characters are, and now he's dead he will never be able to break free of the assumptions people have made of him. He went to his grave having destroyed the people he loved most, and now he will never have the chance to prove their assumptions wrong as be better.

i need toknow what the fuck is happening in rose's brain (or was before blake got eated rather) i may have to undergo the mortifying ordeal of theoryposting publicly and all. which is why people wanted me to liveblog in the first place. anyway. why the fuck did she hug him. what's wrong with her brain. i'm compelled by the idea of like. upper middle class bitchy cutthroat cishet white girl doing a very good job at Continuing The Cycle--not necessarily lying to herself that the way she's behaving is because she's the only good-hearted one here being slighted by everyone else like some of her relatives might be--but believing that the ends justify the means, or perhaps that performing those means to perpetuate those ends is inevitable and/or inescapable on her behalf. she was born into & raised by The Thorburns and not only can't escape but quite possibly has no Desire to escape the perpetuation of the involved cruelties--task set upon her which she will grimly carry out as her grandmother did before her and etc etc.

the interesting wrench here for her is that part of carrying out those tasks means watching someone who is literally [deep inhale] Herself But If She, Due To Different Life Circumstance, Left Home, Experienced Different Traumas, Attained A Deeply Loving Friend Group, And Formed A Personality Based Largely Around Kindness And Fair + Equal Exchange march like a lamb to the sacrificial altar to buy her time. perhaps nudging his course on the way to the altar at times but largely just watching it because he's a really blundering meandering lamb who doesn't like being told what to do very much. (neither, i imagine, does she.) which, like, that's an inherently fascinating dynamic. not just seeing but Knowing the person she could've been if she had only stepped away from the cycles of family cruelty. blake is doomed, bound to die (obligatory: badly) and drag people down with him with very little awareness of the fact and without making anything tangibly better for the next generation. he's bullheaded, and he doesn't read the fucking books, and he's quite frequently impulsive and bad at compromising and prone to horrendous mistakes which harm far more people than just him.

he's also the type of person who can talk at length about how amazing his friends' art is, how much he loves the tattoos he got from one of them. who will lend his own jacket to an acquaintance even when he's in worse shape. who will take on nigh-suicidal tasks not because he Is suicidal (or at least isn't yet, anyway) but just because they needed doing and no one but him was willing.

how do you, as a bitch of a woman trapped in (& willing to function within the trap of) the horrors of your particular family, meet a You who turned out like that, and not hate him at least a little? find him bumbling and annoying and ignorant, resent him for not being the best sacrificial lamb he could be, for being the type of person who ran away from home instead of getting it into a chokehold. but also, how are you not at least a little fascinated by him? the vestige of what could have been will be gone the second the illusion of blake thorburn inevitably shatters and she takes back her rightful place, but for the brief period of time where that illusion is solid, how could she resist the urge to entertain the idea least a little? the idea of a version of her that will put up with a hug purely to make her feel better despite hating touch, the idea of a version of her that naively believes there's a good way out for both of them.

like i think perhaps she hates his ass because his ass is, from her perspective, a dumb and cringefail miserable little sacrificial lamb who is going to be a BITCH to play along with until whenever he kicks the bucket. and she is fully aware that she is lying her ass off because she has 0 desire to intervene in the process of this alternate-her marching himself to the altar for her. but also she mayhaps. occasionally. just a little. gets lost in the sauce of that game of pretend where she's pretending she actually respects him as an equal or has real investment in him not dying badly. is this anything. are we going anywhere with this. like literally what If you met an alternate version of you and that alternate version of you is dumb and stupid and unsustainable and totally fucked but also nicey. you would totally Strongly Dislike their ass but also Genuinely find yourself compelled to wring a moment of real affection or connection out of them before they explode. anyway blake has next to none of these complexes about her and thus no hypothetical weird psychosexual obsession with her. but rose? yeah you can get a hypothetical weird psychosexual obsession with blake out of rose.

i don't talk about it much on main, but i fucking adore Prapai/Sky's jealousy kink. i loooove me a good jealousy kink. Sky and Prapai love being possessive of each other as much as they love being possessed. things i'm also immensely in love with: Sky doesn't think he's worth love, but then gets liberally drowned in affection and care from Prapai and soaks it up like a sponge. and equally, Prapai is so fucking excited to devote his everything to Sky. i have cried to great lengths in DMs about how Prapai is a very caring guy and obviously an excellent hookup, but...nobody really wants him for him. he has a lot of past hookups eager for another, but so many of them express extreme disbelief at the fact that Prapai likes being a total malewife when in fact Prapai is so eager to shower Sky with affection extensively and enjoys doing so immensely.

so! Prapai! my sweet darling boy. he has the vibe of someone who's always been very affectionate, but it was not always welcomed. not in a bad way, just that the people usually seeking his company don't like when he drives two hours for stewed eggs or showers them with flowers three days in a row. they might like it for a few days as a fun hookup thing, but its always on a (short) time limit.

so imagine one day, Prapai and Sky are on a date and one of Prapai's past hookups stops by to say hi. canonical jealous brat Sky is already planning out how he'll put this guy in his place now and fuck Prapai about it later, but then the ex-hookup wiggles his eyebrows at Sky and jokes how he'll have to bolt after lunch before the smothering begins.

and Sky's brain does a complete record scratch. total bluescreen, hackles raised, doesn't-realize-he's-hissing because fucking WHAT!? Prapai is the BEST BOYFRIEND in the entire WORLD, this man should be on his knees WEEPING Prapai is Sky's and not his, no one is even half as lucky as Sky is because none of them have a Prapai who showers them in love and affection and tiny kisses because there's only one Prapai in the entire world and he is SKY's.

Sky doesn't bother responding because honestly nothing can convey the depths of his contempt at that remark as well as his best pissed bitch face, he is wrapping himself in Prapai's arms and glaring at the ex-hookup until he goes the fuck away. then Sky rants that that man is a FOOL, why did you ever sleep with someone so stupid P'Pai, don't you have TASTE--

Ask yourself this. How much screentime did David even have before chapter 2? I find it odd (my brother and I joke about him being the "Levi" of chapter 1 - having very little screentime) that he wasn't on screen for.....really most of chapter's 1 daily life, except for when he intervened Teruko and Xander's conversation in the dining hall (where he went on about how there is so much pressure on his shoulders from being looked up to a lot). Keep in mind Teruko knows his optimistic facade is merely an act. Lots of ppl (included myself) think that David only intervened cause he was watching Xander and Teruko, cautious cause one person knew something that they shouldn't have. But that also sounds a little too cautious, wouldn't you say? Sure, as an inspirational speaker, you are expected to be always happy and cheerful, seeing the world through rose tinted glasses. But surely, as a human being, you are also not immune to being sad. His slip up in the introduction just sounded like an introvert to me. Maybe a bit of a bitchy introvert, but not......something worth total contempt from someone. Yet, David is paranoid enough to keep to himself for the majority of chapter 1 and (most likely) just watched Teruko and Xander's interactions carefully. Why would he do this? Obviously he doesn't want anyone else to know about how his facade is just....well, a facade. But it honestly seems like he genuinely values Xander's opinion about him. He doesn't want anything negative to smear Xander's opinion about him. And keep in mind, ever since the killing game was announced, David (most likely) automatically went in his head "Well, it's only a matter before we all die" yet he still desperately tries to keep up his happy go lucky facade, even when he knows he could die the very next day

I found it kinda odd he never really played a big part until after chapter 2, episode 4 where he became the so called 'leader' and started the plan to share secrets again. But wasn't this also after the end of the first trial where he says "I lost hope, I won't bother to keep it up anymore, we are all going to die here" <- paraphrasing rn, don't kill me. And yet he STILL tries to keep up the persona. I remember one blog made a post about how David's plan was actually better than what the cast could've done (sit around the let the motives be revealed or reveal them without permission) which I agree with. But then it backfired and everyone started to gain up on David during the trial. I think the straw that broke the camel's back was when Teruko said David has been faking not only his personality, but also being a good person. Like damn girl, you think he's a bad person just cause you caught him saying a few negative things to himself? It fits with her character of not trusting people, but still. All that was revealed about his 'true true' personality was that he was some mildly bitchy introvert that wanted to sleep in I have no idea where I am going with this, but these are some findings that I thought was interesting enough to share with you (hopefully I'm sending it to the right blog as well). I guess what I'm trying to say is not only does David truly care about Xander, but possibly everyone else in the cast (he probably even had some respect for Teruko, until Xander died, which is a whole other can of worms, but I also think he blames her for Xander's death and her secret he received in chapter 2 only verifies his belief) And (this is also an extremely long stretch but also worth considering) the gag comic that the dev made I think? 2021 ish? Where David received too many letters and he was worried how he would get through all of them? It wasn't even his idea to throw them out, it was Whit's (to which, David even asked him isn't that a little mean?). It shows that David still cares about his fans (again, it's a really big stretch, but still has the character's canon personalities, since the dev themself made it)

first off, thank you for the submission lexi! i hope you don’t mind that i transferred your ask to this blog ^^

and yeah, i noticed these things too, but in my opinion it may mostly be an indication that david is adamant about maintaining his persona and what the cast expects from him.

(take this with a grain of salt)

despite his (at the very least) pessimistic dialogue at the end of chapter one, i think he tries to consistently keep the “ideal image” that the rest of the cast expects from him as the ultimate inspirational speaker—leading the group, presenting that entire plan (despite likely making it up on the spot), etc—in the beginning of chapter two. similar to what you said, i think it’s a very interesting contradiction to have david act so pessimistic and say that they’re “all certainly going to die here,” and then suddenly find him within the next few days leading the group and doing everything he possibly could to keep his plan going. like i mentioned in this older post, david’s plan was likely better than any of the alternatives—and based on the fact he could potentially convince everyone to follow a separate path from what he outlined in ch2 ep4, it’s likely that he wasn’t actually attempting to “foster the right atmosphere for murder to occur,” like he claimed in episode 11.

so if he was trying to help and prevent another murder despite the (very) limited means to do so—despite him clearly saying how they’re all going to die the chapter before—it might point to the fact that david is pressured by his own reputation to act in a way that is fitting for an inspirational speaker, regardless of all of his slip-ups from earlier. after all, david may have felt that it was wrong to watch all of the discourse happening in ch2 ep4 and not do something about it, especially since he has a career that literally helps other people for a living.

however, this internal(?) pressure could imply that he sets unrealistic expectations on himself to maintain that image—which might explain why, despite his slip-up in the prologue only showing us that he was more pessimistic and lazy than the cast expected, he was paranoid enough to check on xander and teruko. as implied from the MV and all of the secrets that it has, there’s a lot of evidence that points to david not feeling human (the dolls, the albino mouse / arabidopsis / footnote 2)—instead, he thinks of himself as a sort of “model organism” and someone who’s supposed to hold up an ideal for everyone else to follow. if this is true, this may explain why he felt cautious enough to go out of his way and monitor(?) the two people who may know something past his persona/reputation—true, it is only human to feel negative emotions and express them outwardly, but in david’s case he may hold incredibly high expectations for himself as a role model and pretend that he’s immune to those emotions. after all, he doesn’t feel like he’s human.

i also agree on the “he at the very least had an iota of respect for the rest of the cast at one point” part <-paraphrased. no specific evidence for this but i might get to it later

The Riddler: The Riddler, being the narcissist he is can really forget that even with his partner, sometimes its still not all about him. However he will try to work on it and be patient. The closest he's gotten is to take any issues they face as his own issues. If someone is wrong to them, then it's also an attack on him. Being a workaholic really means sometimes you won't see or hear from him. A lot of the times he's too busy for them. Although when you have his undivided attention. He's very affectionate and protective of his partner. All of his affection for them being non-existent until it boils over and all he can do is smother his partner in affection. He requires his partners affection just as much in these moments. A need to be reminded he is loved. When he's jealous, it's even worse. It's like a clingy possessive behaviour that will also be kinda bitchy...because it is Edward Nygma. He'll act like his partner doesnt have the brain power to remember him on their own so he has to remind them of his existence. Yes, he does get jealous easily.

Scarecrow: Being a psychopath, Jonathan doesn't show love like everyone else. It often makes for the misconception that psychopaths cannot love and make attachments. Given his background, that alters his relationships further. However Jonathan will make the effort to show his love like light forms of PDA in public like hand holding. Holding his partners waist whilst idle. In private, he will be much more openly affectionate along with the Scarecrow who seems to have no visible issue with giving and receiving affection. -Back to Jonathan. In private he displays more intense affection like kissing because he knows its a need of their. How else will they know he loves them? Don't think he's uncomfortable with it, he just forgets sometimes. He actually does enjoy affection, hes just not used to getting it.

Penguin: He loves it and he demands it. He wants to feel in control at all times and there is nothing more ego boosting than having someone adore you infront of other crime bosses. He's very touchy. Do expect him to be handsy at any given time. Plus he'll constantly give his partner pet names to the point no one will have actually heard him say his partners actual name. Its always "sweetheart this" and "sweetheart that". Treats his partner like a trophy because to him, his partner is the most beautiful person in all of Gotham. His partner was basically made for him.

Two-Face: He closed himself off from romance for a long time before his partner. Whilst Harvey still has decorum when it comes to PDA, Two-Face is much more rough and will be much more handsy. Harvey sometimes needs time on his own, the insecurity of his face and body kicks in more than he'd like to admit. Whilst physical contact doesn't hurt the scarred side of his body, he's more concerned that he is disgusting to his partner. So he tries to keep his partner to the one side of his face. A successful relationship with him requires his partner doesn't get put off by his scars. He is much better at giving affection than he is receiving. However, he needs the affection more than his partner, even if he'd never admit it. He'd rather find comfort in showing his partner affection rather than receiving affection.

Black Mask: Like Penguin, he wants to be in control all the time. It's where he's most comfortable. He too can be very touchy and will insist his partner holds his hand when arriving and leaving different places. He loves giving and receiving kisses and will use affection to get what he wants. Like giving a reward for enabling him. However he also requires his alone time. He doesn't do well with a partner who needs to constantly be around him. His private time is to enjoy the quiet and think. He "needs it to stay sane."

Harley: Harley is clingy, given her relationship with the Joker - she needs the constant reassurance that she's picking up the right signals. She is super worried she misunderstands. Hence why she got so manipulated by the Joker. Harley has always wanted to be loved and in the end, it was still her greatest weakness. She needs the affection more than her partner likely would. She seems confident but deep down, she needs her partners approval more than anything. Like her past with the Joker, Harley's whole world revolves around her partner and she'll do anything to please them.

Joker: He's not good at relationships. (Really Vanity, who knew!?) He will forget his partners existence. He won't show if he cares about his partners feelings. He's a guessing game to everyone and his partner is no different in that list. If he's in a good mood, he'll take the affection. If he's in a bad mood, it's best to just stay clear. That being said, whether they want his affection or not, his partner will get it when he wants to give it. Doesn't really care for things like sex. So if his partner with held it...he likely wouldn't notice. So he's so independent he'll do quite literally anything without them. He doesn't care if that hurts this partner, if they don't like it then they better just stick with him as much as they can because life isn't fair.

Ivy: She will flirt with her partner like she isn't dating them. She's already won them over yet every day she'll want to remind them just why exactly they like her so much. So much PDA. She loves kissing...no surprises there. She'll encourage independence more for her partner than herself. She is secure in herself and its all about whether her partner could say the same. She is also a little touchy in terms of lingering touches.

Mad Hatter: His partner is the one who can really keep him in reality. Jervis often gets confused but with his partners presence, it grounds him to the knowledge that everything is okay. His partner is Alice. He won't always elaborate how that came to be but those around long enough figured it out. When his partner agrees with him, they're Alice. When they do not, Alice is gone and he needs to find Alice! His partners name is the next best name to Alice. He is more affectionate verbally than he is physically. His partner will get praised a thousand times a day. Perhaps he'll cup their face every now and then but beyond that is rare affection indeed. Most times hes not entirely with reality to really give affection beyond some fond hums. Whilst Alice warped his reality, his partner makes them right again. When he's one hundred percent with them, he's much more openly affectionate, kisses and all. However he always wants his partners love and affection. Anytime of day. So over all, pretty clingy considering his whole world revolved around his partner sometimes.

i was wondering what do you think about the possibility of charlie and du'met working together? they did tease about it after all!

(warning: possible spoilers for the game)

well, to address this, i think, that i fist kinda have to bring up some interesting canon details here, such as that charlie was prob supposed to get abducted before the dinner. like. we saw du'met looming behind his back, when erin was away and charlie was too busy being bitchy about his smokes getting stuck inside the machine to notice, that he was no longer alone. without context, that scene was a bit strange. bc why would du'met even bother to show up, if he wasn't about to do anything? the camera zoom on charlie's back, low-key suggested, that du'met was about to touch/grab him, but had to retreat, once he heard erin coming back. she had managed to cockblock scare him away.

but now ah, what would have happened, if du'met did snatched charlie away in time? it would have looked like not only du'met (morello) hadn't shown up to dinner, but charlie too. the rest of the crew would probably be like hm, that's odd :/ and it would progress from there. like, erin hearing the fake message, or her dying later and writting that 'it's charlie'. after that, everyone would have been all like fuck charlie is in on this. what a bitch. and the thing is that it's seems to be fairly easy for them to buy this theory too. which says smth about charlie, but more about how the others see/view him. i mean, jamie can call him a sociopath earlier in the game, which isn’t fully undeserved tbh. charlie does show some latent symptoms of it. and then,

even mark says this. mark, who is supposedly the closest thing, that charlie has to a friend. but even he's all like well, charlie kinda doesn't have super strong moral compass, but he's not a murder. and it's as good of an argument as any, but then again, if charlie was working with du'met, he doesn't necessarily has to kill anyone directly. he can just be there to 'record' the events. i know what mark meant by that, but while charlie might not bring himself to kill someone directly, who said, that he can’t get someone else to do it for him?

besides,

charlie is clearly into that kind of men lol. disturbing behavior doesn't seem to turn/warn him off. as well, as the fact, that no one knew how du'met had any leak about what topic their future ep should be about. it's easy to imagine the crew deciding, that charlie had found means to contact him about it by himself, and that he wanted to make a deal to save his show. to get famous. the very fact, that they can even as much as CONSIDER this as truth, welp...it means, that charlie doesn’t strike them as the most stable person. and that perhaps, there was a reason or a few, why they find it possible for him to get into bed with an actual serial killer this time.

tho, this is where the canon wise, it would have got interesting. since as we know, charlie clearly wasn’t involved in this. he just helped du’met to get his crew on the island, but with no ill-intent in mind. yet, du’met seem to view it differently. so much so, that

in one of charlie’s possible death scenes, he got as far as to do that. and it’s so oddly personal. he marks charlie as his complicit. but why didn’t morello for example get a similar treatment? from what we know, morello also played in du’met’s hand. he also dragged him family there, despite his wife being creeped out by the place. so in a way, he’s a complicit to du’met’s crime as well. esp later on. but it seems, like du’met simply slashed his throat open. no showing skin. no word carved into his chest. so honestly, why du’met was so strangely obsessed with this specific idea, a fantasy plot almost, that he wanted for the team to think, that charlie was on his side, the whole time? was it just to mess with them? but if so, why this? why put SO much work into smth, that might not even reach the culmination, if he’d manage to kill most of the crew members toward the end? is this some sort of showing their (du’met’s & charlie’s) kinship? or is this an actual pang of possivness, maybe?

i mean, i know that i have a shipping agenda here, but du’met’s interest in charlie is objectively intriguing. he did so many disturbing & twisted things just for this man, that it almost feels like a tribute to ‘this could have been us, but you’ meme. esp bc as far as canon goes, it does feel like du’met was throwing, that wrench of ‘charlie is my crime partner’ just due to his own personal desire. like he wanted to roleplay such a scenario or smth. it’s his castle after all. he can do whatever he’s wanna. but mmm, if he’d abducted charlie earlier in the game, i wonder, if it would have been done just to keep him inside the cell the whole time. and then, maybe force him to take morello’s place? bc i mean, charlie would have done it, even without hostages. he would have agreed to do it a few times in the row, just to keep himself alive. this one, i don’t really have much doubt on.

in a way, it might be a bit of a karma, that everyone would think the worst about charlie. but if your co-workers assume, that you might help a serial killer, mmm, i wonder if you need to either reflect on your attitude or get a new co-workers lol. one of the two. bc i mean, imagine having the worst day in your entire life, only for a dude, who you’ve been maybe/sort of friends with, to ask you,

anyhow, back to an actual question about charlie possibly working with du’met. well, i find it intriguing to think about. esp if charlie had a morbid interest in such things, and then, he happened to actually met a person, who kills other people for real. and who is somewhat friendly toward him, for whatever reason. du’met seemed to be lurking on some shabby website about the serial killers or smth, so charlie could most likely met him there. on a dark web, and they just found how they can possibly help one another. charlie would get a documentary, that would outstand any other one, and du’met will get more victims. it’s such an easy win/win. it also would make it somehow more sinister, if du’met agreed to carry out all of the murders alone, and charlie could just idk, sit there and look pretty lol. indirect killing of your ‘friends’ ohh, how morbid, mister lonnit! asking du’met to kill your crew in such breathless tone too...oh, so naughty!! but for real du’met made that fake tape sound so low-key sexy for no reason at all

in conclusion, they could have been a murder husbands, but the supermassive can only tease with these things. though, personally, i’m glad that they haven’t went there in canon. it leaves a lot place for ‘improvement’, and actually figuring out a way, where charlie might come to see things from du’met’s side. charlie has a good probility to be a con-man tbh. he was already commiting little crimes in the begining of the game as well as not understanding things like personal bondaries and such. so why not let him take it a step further, even if in a theory? it took hector munday to met just one ‘wrong’ person to finally snap. can’t see, why this can’t be the same for charlie, y’know?

Does he feel remorse for kissing a man who is a criminal? Does he even consider John his boyfriend? And if so, how does he feel at the next gas attack on the city and at the next departure of John to Arkham?

well….

i’ll begin with saying, that bruce is destined to be miserable in my book. always. he cannot have it easy. i love how often he *canonically even* attracted to villains/morally grey people, an’ how it inevitably tends to clash with his hero codex an’ general worldview. that’s a pretty painful existence, really! the amount of ‘self-inflicted’ emotional/mental damage, that some heroes tend to put onto their own shoulders is honestly a wonderment of its own right.

so naturally, when it comes to matters of the heart, someone like batman just cannot have it in a way, where it would ‘work out’. i feel like bruce’s an' selina’s relationships are a prime example of that. aka how he digs ‘bad’ kind of people, even if he knows that it most likely won’t ever amount to any sort of ‘sweet’, domesticated fantasy, that he might be wishing for. an' the thing with bruce is that he’s not dumb, he gets it. even if at first, he tries to deny it, attemtping to seek ways around it, in the end, he has to deal with the fact, that it is what it is. so i think, that at his core, bruce is always going to be conflicted about his ‘taste’, even if it does make hella lot of sense, takin’ in his history. in short, batman having a preference, that would actively make him cucked even from an ounce of normalincy is precious to me.

with this in mind, the dynamic that bruce has with crane is a mixed bag, esp bc he can have slightly different relationships with scarecrow, depending on who he is at the moment. batman or billionaire play-boy. an’ depending on who he is dealing with, crane can also be bolder, more vicious, or actually, meeker an’ less aggressive. like, bruce wayne won’t put his scrawny ass in the dirt, bc it would blow his cover. meanwhile, the bat cannot be too forgiving with jonathan, bc he’s a hero, so it’s almost a rare chance to see how he can influence jon from both sides of the spectrum. an’ it also can show him more sides of jonathan too, considering that in most set-ups *including the ones that i have for them* crane is unaware, that batman an’ bruce are the same man lol. also, it would be nice for bruce to finally have a villain, who isn't specifically in love only with the batman aspect of him.

i mean, it’s kinda given that jonathan doesn’t fully bother with ‘unmasking’ the bat, bc he doesn’t really care who he is. it’s still be batman to him. therefore usually, i don’t picture jonathan’s reaction to the reveal of the bat being bruce wayne to be hella emotional *like in plots, where they’re just enemies*. he prob just be like ‘oh, this kinda makes sense, yeah’. everyone else be bitchy about it, bc how can their batman be some playboy, jock dude lol. jon won't be like that, since he doesn't separate the bat from the man beneath the mask. at least, not to the level where he wants them separated or won't stand those both halves existing at the same time. that’s why the scarecrow is the true one. he’s so needy an’ greedy, that he’d be happy to have both sides of a big bad bat. but back to the main point, i feel like bruce kinda always carries a sentiment of ‘i have to stop you bc it’s my job’, but also ‘i want to believe that you can better yourself’. an’ in cases, like crane’s, batman prob also wants it for jon’s own sake too, considering how often he ends up accidentally hurting or damaging himself.

n’ i feel like it would be even more painful an’ disappointing, if jonathan would still keep up his scarecrow act, while they had smth goin’ on. but such is the nature of jon’s emotions. they’re destructive, when negative an’ there is no reason to assume like his love would differ from his obsession. from how he usually perverse things, it's all the same to him. in a way, bruce be ready for that. he must expect jon’s feeling for him to be feverish an’ kinda extreme' no matter, if said feeling is ‘positive’ or not. i also cannot see jonathan *even if he’s not a scarecrow in some timeline* being normal about batman or bruce, bc he has no idea how to be ‘normal’ about anythin’ lol. bruce is more balanced in comparison, but he also has that odd bit, where he is sometimes more sympathetic to his rogues, than he is to their hostages. in crane’s case, it literally happened at least twice. he nearly killed people, but bruce was like ‘it’s awful that this happen to you, but you kinda deserved it tho’, making the victims pretty confused as to why the bat was more understanding toward his rogue straw-goblin, than toward them. an’ i don’t think, that bruce even always realises that he plays favourites an’ how it looks from the side. so i can’t say, that ‘remorse’ is the right word for what he will feel, if he kisses jon an’ makes out with' him, fully knowing that he’s not a good person. it’s more of a….grief, perhaps? disappointment in himself, mourning for all destroyed lives *jon’s included*, but also umbrage, that he cannot control it or make jonathan stop, unless jon will somehow find it in himself to stop. which is almost impossible. but at the same time, no matter how furious the bat is with the scarecrow, i love how bruce *in older media, at least* cannot bring himself to give up on him.

in general, bruce’s view on crane is an interesting matter. to some extent, he pities him, but he also seems to get angry with him pretty often too. an’ for a good reason, esp since the bat clearly views jon’s intelligence as an admirable thing, but thinks that it’s a true shame how he uses it or for what, rather. this sentiment doesn’t apply only toward crane, of course. a lot of batman's rogues could have done smth good with their talents/knowledge/hacks if they applied it elsewhere. but i feel like on some level, bruce has an easier time ‘relating’ to jonathan, than to some of his other villains. there are dozens of parallels, that they share, but they also have so many things, that make them a great fuel to one another too, both as bruce wayne / jonathan crane an’ as batman / scarecrow. jon is essentially, one of batman’s most twisted reflections. so idk if he will ever like, openly think of crane as his bf, since it almost feels dishonest to call him this. he’s more of ‘the worst half’ an’ bashert in one. but i feel like people would tauntingly, jokingly call scarecrow’s bat’s bf or even gf. bullock surely would have, haha. but like generally, the villains an’ heroes alike tend to be overdramatic about their relationships with one another. their inner monologues are pretty funny bc of that too. like, they’d be in the middle of the fight with said enemy-lover, an’ randomly think of some well-articulated, poetic line, as if they sat their ass down to write it in a personal diary lol. bruce thinking about jon’s ‘awkward grace’ an’ long legs won’t ever be unfunny to me, even if it wasn’t written in a suggestive way.

anyways, i think that all of the above *besides the last part* prob also sums up how i feel batman reacting to jonathan being, well, himself. bruce would expect it. an’ it would sting more, for sure, but i don’t think, that there is any non-nuanced scenario, where batman would for example, just let jon go, bc they’re lovers now. he might be a bit more ‘forgiving’ to scientist aspect of jonathan’s worldview, but it won’t mean, that he’d agree with ‘end justifies the means’ kind of approach, bc he doesn’t want innocent to be harmed / suffer. he also against killing / death, no matter who the target is n’ whatever they ‘deserve’ it or not. they won’t ever see eye to eye on that. but if batman / bruce’s presence in jon’s life will be extended, an’ if he would try to make very little compromises, then maybe, eventually jonathan can be a bit less dangerous for others *an’ himself*. or maybe, he would somehow find a way to make batman ‘worse’. make him join the club, so to speak lol.

like, when people think about the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope, i’ve noticed, that often one side of the ship does a 180 turn, an’ becomes somewhat okay with whatever they were not okay with beforehand. for me, it’s more of a stalemate of sorts. like each side might make some compromises or close their eyes on smth, but not be at peace with it. if we picture crane as suddenly rehabilitated, it’s won’t change the fact, that most versions of him had killed / mentally tortured people. an’ he might or can potentially do this again, even if ‘for a good reason’ this time.

the love can change a lot of things for them, but at the same time, it won’t change certain things at all. i don’t believe that love / deep feelings can cure jonathan’s mental illness. if anything, it would prob only complicate things. since sure, it might make him a bit more mindful about idk accidentally killing someone, bc it makes the bat upset. he might try to be more cautious, but not bc he suddenly cares about lost lives, but only bc batman does. it might be a bit better, than him not givin' a shit at all, but jonathan still be a sociopath, that only kinda cherishes how that one person views him, an’ it'll be the only reason why he would tone smth down. if bruce be like ‘okay, that’s not what i wanted, but i can try to make it work’. i suppose, it might be considered as jon slightly corrupting him as well. besides, bruce will have to pay a lot of attention to him, to keep jonathan in line. gotta like dom him everyday an’ such, just so that he’d be less vicious lol.

ok so, astarion girlie u say? tell us abt ur hcs for “missing scenes” between ur tav/urge and ur astarion.l. how they cared for each other on the road n in baldurs gate…. n if u think they had a lil date in baldurs gate, where would they go, etc!

Oh boy, do I ever have a lot of missing scene ideas! (Low key upset that they took out so many Early Access scenes that some of my hcs are based on, but oh well.)

Under a cut, because I ramble. Long, indulgent head-canon post ahoy.

So, to start with, my Astarion-mancer is Velassa, a half-elf noble who gave up her status to become a cleric of Ilmater. This immediately puts her and Astarion at odds -- Velassa's duty as a cleric is literally to stop and help anyone and everyone who needs it, and is a follower of the literal god of altruistic martyrs. It's practically her religious duty to get herself killed helping others, even for those who don't deserve it.

Astarion hates that so much, especially after he catches feelings. He would 100% confront her about it. They really should have had an argument about it -- how can she throw herself away, he needs her, "don't do this to me" sort of stuff. He's also absolutely the sort to hit below the belt -- why didn't your god help me, if He's so compassionate? He's a hypocrite, just like the rest of the gods, letting mortals do all the work and then taking the credit for it. And so on. It would be a good tie to the "bear blood" scene, where Tav can warn him against the corruption of power, especially when he says that "heroes" are a part of the problem.

Of course, an argument like that can't just happen and then be forgotten. I do think Astarion would feel bad about it, even as he tries to convince himself he has nothing to feel bad about. But you can't love a devout follower of a god without coming to terms with their faith. I'm not sure Astarion will ever forgive the gods, but I do think he'd eventually realize that Velassa became a follower of Ilmater because she was already compassionate. She didn't change herself to please a god, but followed a god who told her that she was already good for being who she was. He can respect that, even if he does still think the gods are hypocrites.

For her part, I think Velassa would understand that Astarion says cruel things as a defense mechanism. That doesn't make it hurt any less, but she gets it. She forgives him, but definitely gives him a stern talking to about better ways to deal with emotional pain. She is kind, sweet and altruistic, but she's not weak or emotionally-fragile. She follows He Who Endures, and you don't develop endurance by shrinking from pain, whether it's physical or emotional. She may be a bleeding-heart altruist but she's also a medic used to keeping pragmatic in volatile situations--she's dealt with people lashing out at her for trying to help, and takes no nonsense.

I also think, at some point, Astarion would decide that he's going to stick around and just stab the shit out of anyone who tries to take advantage of her kindness. He can't talk her out of it. She's firm in her convictions. So if she's so set on this self-sacrifice stuff, well, he'll just have to get in the way and make sure she survives it. The gods have already forsaken him, and her god can't be mad at her if he's the one doing the stabbing, right?

I see that playing out as a reminder to her about how easily he was able to get a knife to her throat, and she should keep him around to make sure no one else gets the chance. He won't stop her from helping others (because he can't), but if they try to cut her throat for it, why should he let that happen? He'll still complain about it, of course, in part just because I think he enjoys being bitchy, but he does mean to keep her safe regardless.

I also really think they (and all the romances, tbh) should have a scene for if they wear the matching warding bond rings. I think it would really freak Astarion out that someone is willing to literally take damage meant for him. It would scare him to think about (what if Cazador found out and tortured him to her death?), but also why would anyone be willing to do that for him?

I think he would initially refuse to wear the ring, and even after confessing his feelings, would rather wear the ring that absorbs the damage than the one that protects from the damage. Part of that is a desire for agency and autonomy, but also, I think even he realizes he's better at handling physical pain over emotional pain.

I think caring for others (in his own way) comes way before he's truly comfortable being cared for. He tries so hard to distance himself from others' pain because caring is what's hurt him the most in the past. Part of his growth is realizing both that it's okay to care and be cared for. Some part of his mind still keeps screaming that no one helps others without expecting something in return, and if you don't know the price, you can't prepare yourself for it. Getting over that mental hurdle is a long, slow process.

As to taking care of each other, the obvious thing Velassa does is let him feed from her, making sure he's not hungry. As a healer, she knows how badly starvation affects someone. In return, I imagine Astarion being fussy about making sure she's eating enough, keeping hydrated, not pushing herself too hard, and being a nuisance if she tries to push through it anyway. All for "practical" reasons, of course, not because he's worried or anything. (He's worried.)

Velassa, of course, is careful about monitoring herself for blood loss and its effects. That said, she's also Ilmatari, so in a certain sense, she overrelies on her own endurance. She can push herself farther and sacrifice more of herself than most, thanks to her god. Astarion sees that as reckless, though, and it irks him that she's so cavalier about her own health. So what if she can handle it? She shouldn't have to!

I think they should have included a scene where if you offer him blood, say, three times in a row, he declines the next time. Tasty as blood is, it takes time to replenish. The "bloodless" condition is literally someone suffering noticeable effects of blood loss. You can't just keep losing that much blood every night without it becoming dangerous. Even factoring in that blood seems to "intoxicate" him, he's pragmatic enough to realize (feelings aside) it would be a bad thing for him if she became too weak to function.

Beyond the obvious, though, one thing I head-canon is that Astarion starts to learn a lot about herbalism and plants. Velassa, as a life cleric of Ilmater, is trained in herbalism and is constantly collecting medicinal ingredients. Astarion starts out quite the city-dweller, but he has sharp eyes. I think he'd pick it up quickly. They're walking along and Astarion spots some rare plant, points it out to her. Despite himself, he starts learning about how to make medicines to the point that he scoffs at the prices merchants charge for things like healing potions. "Tell me you're joking. All our cleric needs to create these is three flowers and a mushroom you can find literally anywhere. Please." 🙄 And then everyone gives him crap about "our" cleric, Shadowheart pretending to be offended.

I really think there should have been a lot more friendly teasing of the ROs in this game. You cannot tell me that this group would not be (lovingly) roasting the shit out of each other, especially the two idiots in love.

I also think Astarion starts teaching Velassa about how to pick locks, disarm traps and recognize thieves' cant. "You don't have to steal to know how to pick a lock. What if you get locked up somewhere and need to escape? Are you going to pray the lock open?" (She might.) Velassa doesn't have great dexterity, but she is intelligent and perceptive, so I think she'd start to get the hang of it. "And who'd expect a cleric to know thieves' cant? You can listen in and learn all sorts of things with no one the wiser." That stuff is all still in his wheelhouse, but it's a handy skill to have in a pinch. In my playthrough at the goblin camp, Velassa freed Liam from the torture rack by picking the lock on the first try, and I imagine Astarion was sooo proud.

For a date, I think despite appearances, Astarion would like something low-key. He's tired of always having to put on a performance. For all he talks up enjoying it, hedonism and debauchery are old hat after two hundred years of being forced into it. I see him wanting something like going to some secluded place and star-gaze, just talking and watching the sun rise together. Safe, contemplative, no need for pretense. Something genuine, real.

The graveyard scene is sort of in that vein, but the focus is different. There he's recognizing that he's finally, actually free of Cazador, that he has a future. He's relieved, triumphant, ready to start reclaiming himself, starting with sex if possible. He hasn't yet had time to start thinking about the future or who he is now. But after that? After he's had time to start coming to grips with it?

It would make him nervous as hell. Sex is (comparatively) easy, but intimacy? Being vulnerable, not just for a moment before he puts the walls back up, but for a lifetime? He's on new ground for the first time in 200 years. To be seen, to be actually known, and to know someone else -- that's something he craves, and fears.

It's never really occurred to him because Astarion's not a naturally introspective person, but I think after Cazador's dealt with, he has a real "what now?" moment. All he's ever dreamed about was freedom. The future is a blank, and he doesn't even know himself well enough to really know what he wants. But now, there's this person by his side, someone he cares about, and he realizes just how little he actually knows about her. Now he wants to know everything.

Outside the whole tadpole thing, and her basically becoming the leader of their merry band of misfits, who is she? He doesn't understand her, despite being around her for so long. How is she like this? Why? What drives her to go so far for his sake, when he knows he doesn't deserve it? And she is so confident in who she is and her convictions.

I can see him asking lots of questions, in part because he's looking for guidance to figure himself out, but also because he's never really had a chance to care about anyone else. He's desperate, afraid, because now he's had a taste of happiness. Part of him still expects it to be ripped away. He wants reassurance that it's safe to care. Not because he thinks she'll reject him, but all he knows is the role of "sexy, cynical vampire". But if she believes he can be more than that, well, maybe he can be.

I also wish we were able to include our Tavs' family in-game. I'd have loved the opportunity to have Velassa introduce Astarion to her (noble) family. Her father would definitely be making Astarion sweat bullets, not least because Velassa's (retired assassin) father used to be her mother's bodyguard. 😁 History repeating, and all that.

I also think that, even after he starts becoming more genuine, he's still going to be a snarky bitch. Humor is a coping mechanism, but it's one of the healthiest. Velassa may be a sweet, kind-hearted healer, but she also has a streak of dark humor. You don't become a healer without seeing horrible things, and gallows humor is par for the course. It shocks people who don't know her well. Astarion thinks it's hilarious to see this ball of sunshine drop this incredibly dark joke and everyone around go 😱 I also think he enjoys making off-color jokes and making her laugh at inappropriate moments. Small victories.

My thought on Russell is quite same.

I think most f1 fans will agress-- It's no any drivers' fault that they wants best for themselves on track as long as they admit it and instead using team as excuse. With this knowledge, a biggest problem of Russell is, he pretends to care TEAM over HIMSELF off track with those PR or whatever shit he speaks and try to use it as a strategy even on track when it defnitely no for the best of team's benefit. If you are care about team, what you will do on track is do the best for team instead of yourself when the environment allows. In Singapore, and Suzuka, Russell made inferior choice for TEAM but best choice for himself, it was clear. And before someone argues this point with the "He is young and ambitious blablabla", look the first sentences of the paragraph, and no excuse of " He is driver he can't see the panorama form cockpit", it is no a excuse works for Russell I fear, as someone who his fans claims so good at strategy and race situation analyzing during driving, as someone who cares his teammate so much even during racing, no way he knows nothing about Lewis's situation who just behind him? Besides, the adrenaline thing is no a better excuse, bc every driver has adrenalin, not everyone can't play team games, no? I don't get why Russell has so much entitlement and ego inside him but don't want to admit it, like Verstappen is quite happy with being asshole driver and doesn't pretend to be humble, Russell tries too hard on painting himself as a humble guy off track when literally tries 0 to even hide it on track

agreed !! you know, i hated the pr63 moniker when i first heard it, i thought it was unfair, but now i can't help but agree, he IS good at pr. he is good at establishing a certain image of himself, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that (so many famous people are brands too, remember), it's the way that it comes across now that's a bit... i do not vibe with it.

if from the outset he said he's here to get points and win, i could respect the directness if nothing else. i understand that when he signed with mercedes he was expecting a good car and good results, not the shitbox that was the w13. i know the reality of it was disappointing, but despite that he was consistent with it, finishing in the top five every race until silverstone 22. hell, he won brazil 22!!! so that in itself is an improvement over williams.

for me personally, he earned a lot of goodwill last year by doing what he could to help the team. and then also in silverstone when he jumped out to go help guanyu, that was... i will always have massive respect for that, i will always appreciate him for that. that was the moment i began liking him for real, and when he won in brazil i was SO happy for him.

and then this year, as early as jeddah, he's asking for team orders, he's being snarky on the radio "i'm being attacked by my own teammate!" in australia and even his bitchy little "so is he going to give me the place back or?" in singapore. saying he thinks he's faster than lewis when he knows DAMN WELL, better than anyone else, that lewis sacrificed his season to get them data to improve the car. acting as if he should be prioritized over lewis, fighting him at every opportunity then being shocked pikachu face when he fights back... girl what is this behavior. i don't like him anymore because of this shit. and like, i'd love to be wrong about him, i'd love to see him grow and improve, but right here right now as things stand, he's acting super entitled and like he's above the team. and i know people are worried how he'll behave when merc has a good car again. which is why i think merc needs to stop the peace n love on planet earth shit n establish a hierarchy. it's needed now. figure out what their goals are and act accordingly.

some arrogance in an athlete is sexy, honestly. we liked it in seb, we liked it in michael. not to the extent that mv has it lol but yeah, it does have to be earned. and george has not earned it. he has one (1) race win. being desperate for another is not the problem here. the problem is acting like the team should prioritize you, p8 in the standings, instead of the guy who has a good shot at p2. the problem is the team itself coddling him instead of focusing on how both drivers can maximize points? i don't understand it, i genuinely don't.

Love thinking about that Brennan Lee Mulligan quote about his professor who told him that personality predates ideology and how that applies to Anakin.

As Brennan so succinctly puts it, before you were a fascist, you were a bully and an asshole.

Like we don't necessarily see Anakin specifically bully anyone, but we do see him steamroll people, we do see him disrespect people. Anakin becomes a fascist because he can make it all about him. Because he's always made everything all about him. Anakin becomes a fascist because it allows him to blame everyone BUT himself for his own problems.

Before Anakin was a Sith, he was a racist and a sexual predator. Before he was a Sith, he was a selfish greedy asshole.

Sure, Palpatine manipulates him, Palpatine helps poison Anakin further against Jedi teachings so that he just gets more and more selfish and bitchy. But Anakin makes the choices. At no point does Anakin have to disrespect Padme's refusals of him. At no point does Anakin HAVE to kill children. At no point did Anakin HAVE to kill ANYONE. At no point did Anakin HAVE to lie or break his own vows.

No one forced him into those choices and Palpatine isn't even around for at least half of them.

I know Anakin's story is meant to show us how a good person becomes bad, but in Attack of the Clones, he's already a bad person. A good person does not kill children. A good person does not disrespect someone else telling them that their behavior makes them feel uncomfortable.

Brennan's quote mentions that this is on the level of both individuals and civilizations. And we do see that in the PT, too. Anakin's story parallels that of the Republic itself, specifically of the Senate. Before the Republic became an Empire, it was corrupt and lazy and arrogant. Palpatine and the Sith have been manipulating that, obviously, but it doesn't take the onus of the responsibility for allowing things to get as far as they do off of the senators themselves. And this is shown very explicitly through seeing senators like Padme herself and Bail Organa (and a few others in the deleted scenes from ROTS). There ARE senators doing the right work, putting in the effort to be better. But it's not enough. It was never enough. And it's on those corrupt senators and representatives for choosing to be that way, for making those choices they're making.

It's just as much on Anakin for making the choices he makes, and it says something about who he's always been as a person that he can ultimately make those choices in the end. That he can look at a dictatorship and see it as a better alternative to a democracy (even one that is admittedly not working as well as it should). That he can look at a genocide and see it as a viable solution to a personal problem. Anakin is someone who sees people as objects, who views the world in black and white. Your life is worthwhile until it isn't. Your rights are to be protected until they aren't. You're a person until you aren't. The problem becomes the solution when it's convenient to see it as such.

Before Anakin was a Sith/fascist, he was an arrogant selfish racist dickhead.

this got so long i'm sorry lol. that post about jonathan hurting steve just reminds me of my number one issue w steve and jonathan/nancy becoming closer which is that the onus is almost always placed on steve to make amends and take that first step w/little to no emphasis on that effort being reciprocated. like, steve apologizes to jonathan for everything in s1 (as he should) and saves his life twice. whether or not you think jonathan should apologize for how intense the fight got is up for debate (i would just like acknowledgement of how seriously he did/almost did hurt steve) but steve def deserves an apology for 1)the photos (which he never got - obv he broke the camera but then he also bought jonathan a new one all w no actual apology to steve on jonathan's part, it wasn't only nancy's privacy he invaded) 2) the fact that he slept w nancy knowing she and steve were still together (which he literally verbally acknowledges when nancy says she waited for him or w/e). that second one obv also goes for nancy bc she also doesn't apologize to steve for leading him on for a year while having feelings for someone else then cheating on him. this isn't me saying jancy are terrible ppl and entirely unsympathetic (nancy is obv v traumatized and struggling w barb's death tho this does not excuse the way she treated steve) but they both did some fucked up shit to steve that ppl rarely make them acknowledge or even feel bad for, which creates a v unbalanced dynamic imo.

So this might just be curating different fandom experiences, but I don't personally see a ton of Steve being the one who has to make amends in fandom or Jonathan and Nancy not having introspection on their pasts. In canon I totally see that though, and it's a lot. Like I think they're all just really human, which I love. They fuck up, and they mistrust, and they have to learn and grow into being close. It isn't automatic.

I think like.......here's my thought process. Apologies are nice. Apologies are good. The right thing to do is always to apologize if you feel like you've wronged someone.

But I also think Steve wouldn't accept it.

Okay I'm putting the rest under a read more because I'm going on a little meta rant on Steve Jonathan Nancy and why apologies are a complicated thing for them and ultimately not what any of them really need.

First Steve because he's my blorbo. Steve is a really interesting character. He has this veneer of extreme self confidence that hides a really soft core of a person that ultimately experiences a significant amount of rejection. He has this brittle exterior that's bitchy and snarky and gives as good as it gets, but things touch him in a deeper way that I think is easy for a lot of people to ignore. I could totally see Jonathan awkwardly trying to bring things up to maybe try and apologize only for Steve to be like nah man we're fine! It didn't work out no biggie, I'm aok, you guys work together and we didn't.

Steve is constantly searching for validation and love (Implied because his parents are neglectful or at the very least have an extremely bad marriage that would be enough to add layers to anything) I think that the bullshit conversation really impacted Steve in a significant way, but if he shared that, then he's leaving himself vulnerable to getting hurt again, so he would do everything in his power to truly make everyone think he's okay, even potentially making himself think he's okay too, when deep down he isn't.

I alsoooo don't really think that Nancy or Jonathan necessarily feel bad. If Steve is pushing so hard to say he isn't hurt, then eventually I could see them not thinking too hard on it. Jonathan because in canon they aren't really friends obviously (Which is a goddamn travesty by the way I wrote an entire series of fics because I hated that they weren't friends) and Nancy because Nancy is an extremely self focused person.

Not selfish. I think it's important to make the distinction between selfish and self-focused. I don't think she's intentionally doing things to hurt the people around her for her own gain, but she thinks about how things effect her and how things impact her first and foremost. Not even just with Steve, but with everyone. A good example of this is in season three when she cost Jonathan his job too with her sleuthing. Her boyfriend who is in a very bad financial situation at home and could have really used a job that actually pertained to his interests and might have lead to future relationships in his industry. She didn't feel bad about that, she was too focused on the injustice to her. Even something as simple as never knocking when he's in the dark room and ruining his pictures over and over.

She just doesn't think about other people, which makes sense! She's a teenager, she's a privileged person, and she's smart as all hell. She gets extremely focused on doing the 'right' thing (according to her rules and her mind because she knows she's smart and thinks she's the smartest in the room always) and she misses doing the best thing a lot of the time.

For Steve, someone who is clearly extremely not self focused-which is also not a great way to be because extremes never are- and Jonathan- Someone who has been forced to put his family first his entire life- that is always going to be a point of conflict in her relationships with them.

But I don't know if we've ever seen Nancy give a genuine apology in the show, and I honestly doubt we ever would. It's not in her character really. But! Regardless of all of that, apology isn't really the end goal. Saying your sorry shouldn't be the end of something. I would much rather see Nancy Steve and Jonathan grow into people with more empathy and ability to own up to their shit/call people out on their stuff in the future rather than rehashing their past again. Unfortunately I have a feeling season five is gonna be a lot of rehashing lmaoooo
