Was looking at my iPod Nano and thought how utterly BS it is that companies say it takes too much room to have a headphone jack.

I already thought it was BS before but the claim invariably comes down to form factor and keeping the jacks would make the device too big.

My Nano is ~5mm thick with the jack (also it's thinner than that but the glass stands out to make it thicker). That's nearly 3mm thinner than the latest iPhone and even the thinnest iPhone is over 2mm thicker.

You're telling me as components and ports shrink and boards also get smaller, it's unfeasible to do something that was done a decade ago?

It's almost as if it's not that form factor/technology doesn't allow it and it's all about selling proprietary adapters and/or Apple-brand headphones/earbuds/airpods that can be paired without a jack, and removing customer freedom.

Sorry I havent been posting my own art much! Ive been trying to get back on it but my work and studies have been eating up my time, brain and energy at the moment. Ive drawn a few things but its rough stuff and I want to use my sketchbook to get me back in the zone! Once im not so tired, Imma get back here (and on my new insta and toyhouse and all dat!). another day of the laptop issue not getting resolved (apple store man much more helpful than local istore team)

but I nabbed these very cheaply and had to stop myself getting more

so usually i use my mom's laptop (it has a better battery life. mine will go for an hour and a half, max. so i keep it on my desk.) but i turned mine on monday and it was fine. then i turned it on wednesday and the lock screen came up (totally normal) but when i unlocked it the screen was black (totally not normal) so i was like. wellllll that's a problem but i am busy right now and i need a laptop to do something so i'll just. uhh. leave mine alone for right now. and then yesterday it was still doing the same thing, everything works fine until it's unlocked (but if i move the touchpad it brings up a very small antivirus screen. i tried to open the task manager and it just made it a very small task manager screen next to it that disappears if you aren't touching the touchpad. so, some part of it can in fact function but for some reason it is. not functioning,) so my brother and i were texting all day trying to do this or that to figure out what was going on, i unplugged it to see if draining the battery would help in any way and mysteriously it took FOREVER to die all of a sudden (it likes to come back on on its own, too. which, should probably have worried me more before now, but, i figured, laptops, yknow) and that still did not help. once it get unlocks it is just all black and will accept no key function but ctrl+alt+delete. it is looking like i may have to factory reset my laptop (well, providing it will accept THAT, we'll have to see) which is not the biggest deal in the world (after the laptop before this, which was so weird i thankfully had the foresight to back everything up for once before it died, i do have two backups, the most recent backup is just in googledrive instead of my usb but that's not a problem. but i do wish it was on the usb.) it's just. are you sure. do i have to. and it's not like i'm OUT a laptop or anything, because, there is another laptop in the house, and factory resetting will probably work, i just Don't Like The Idea Of It. hate the idea of factory resetting anything for some reason :( and i know there's like, minor things probably i forgot to save, just like, idk fic screenshots or something which is like, nothing!!!! it's not like i don't have the fics, damn!!!!!!! but it's just................. :(

I feel a sudden, urgent need to rant, probably because I just spent a ridiculous amount of time on simply confirming that, yes, the local Best Buy's Geek Squad is an authorized service centre for HP, and all I need to do is walk in and drop off my laptop. Like, the HP web site helped me locate any service centres near me (though it kept being convinced I was in southern Ontario, not up around Sudbury). The Best Buy web site confirmed there's a Geek Squad centre there. Their "Chat with an agent" link is a dirty filthy lie, however, as when you phone the number provided, you end up on an automated voice mail system that at no point actually gives you an option to speak to a human, and instead eventually hangs up on you after (unhelpfully) offering to text or email you links of where to go to get service via their web site.

I eventually resorted to trying the live tech support chat option, where the agent (also potentially just a bot responding to keywords) admitted that, yes, they do tech support, it's strictly walk-in no appointment needed, and that, oh yeah, personnel in-store can't be reached by phone.

JFC Best Buy at least have your damn web site or voice mail tree have information like that AVAILABLE RIGHT THERE. That was all I needed to know. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops for a quarter of an hour or more just to confirm that yeah, you do HP support, and yeah, I can just bring in and drop off my laptop.

...now I just need to get said laptop there. Brother has offered that if they're open late enough, he can drive it in after work, weather permitting. Also, if there was a non-Best Buy option, they would so be getting my business instead.

gonna have to deal with the process of transferring everything over to a new computer/redownloading everything soon but hey i can ignore that sense of dread n annoyance with the thought of argonians sneezing like chickens

so i was at best buy recycling a laptop and a phone and

1. i think i know the person who was checking us out (because you recycle electronics at the checkout)

2. they initially said there was a $30 fee for recycling laptops

2-A. i didnt see anything online about that

2-B. they looked at the laptop and then said "you're good"

3. ???

3-A. are they taking the laptop for themselves?

3-B. did they realize there isn't actually a $30 fee? (not saying there isnt)

3-C. did they recognize me?

3-D. were there bees nearby?

4. the laptop in question was an msi gaming laptop

4-A. micro center said the motherboard was dead

4-A-A. i cannot back that claim up

4-B. i removed the ssd

4-C. i removed the ram

4-D. do they know that?

5. the person in question may be DC Trip related (for those in the know aka literally only me)

oh crisis averted my gaming laptop only has ssd. now i really just have to buy+install ram

got an old laptop up and running but it's very slow so idk if I can make an AMVs on it :(
