We're two weeks in team! Have some simple blupjeans chatter
Day 14: celebrity au
Barry's just trying to buy a new tv for their bedroom, but Lup wants to talk about his celebrity status.
Read it on AO3
Barry considers the different tvs in front of him. “The 45 should be enough for where we're putting it. What do you think, babe?” He looks at Lup, but she's looking off in some other direction. “Lup?”
She turns to him. “Hm?”
“The tv?”
“Oh, yeah, whatever you want is fine.” She looks away again.
“Alright, uh,” he turns back to the sales associate helping them, “we'll go with the 45 inch one then.”
“Great! Just wait right here and I'll go grah the box from the back.”
They walk away, and Barry says to Lup, “what has you so distracted.”
She glances at him and grins. She links her arm through his and points to a tv nearby, “look.”
It's playing an episode of a cheesy mafia-themed soap opera. The same mafia-themed soap opera Barry was cast in 30 years ago to play the mob boss's fifteen year old son. The scene playing at the moment is from a recent season, showing Barry all done up in a suit, surveying some sort of shipment.
He rolls his eyes. “You're ridiculous.”
She laughs. “You're probably the only mainstream celebrity who comes to Best Buy for his tvs.”
“There's no way I'm mainstream. I'm like a T-list celebrity at best."
“Oh, come on. You're on Netflix!”
“Have you seen some of the shit on there? It's like finding an old can of beans from 1962 at the back of your grandma's cupboard sometimes. Plus,” he gestures vaguely at the tv, “the show's been running for over 30 years now, some streaming service was bound to pick it up eventually. It's not an indication of my celebrity status.”
Lup tuts. “You're selling yourself short, Bluejeans. You've gotta be at least E-list. The kids are getting into older shows nowadays.”
“I never get recognized in public.”
“Bullshit. There was that one time-”
“On the rare occasion that I do, they're almost always over the age of 60.” He gives Lup a look as he cuts her off, knowing she was going to mention that time they were on a road trip and a table of older women recognized him in a diner. She purses her lips, thinking. “You get recognized more than I do,” he says. “You're more of a celebrity than I am.”
“There's no way a YouTube channel makes me more famous than you, who's been a staple of daytime television since you were fifteen.”
“Oh yeah?” He tilts his head to indicate behind her, “six o'clock.”
“Excuse me?” Right on cue, a 20-something customer comes up to them. “I'm so sorry, but are you Lup Taaco?”
Barry takes a picture for them, and Lup talks to them for a few quick minutes until the sales associate comes back with their tv. The fan thanks her and scurries away. Barry takes the flat cart from the associate and starts driving it to the cash registers. “Told you,” he says.
“Shut up.” She crosses her arms. “I refuse to accept this slander to your popularity.”
“Lup, I'm a pudgy white guy in his 40s wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I'm practically set decoration when I'm in public. Now, if I walked around in a suit and waved a gun around going,” he makes a finger gun and does a silly impression of his tv self, “give me my fuckin’ money or I'll kill ya! Then I might get a little more attention.”
Lup considers this. “I don't think people would appreciate that.”
“No, I don't think they would. Unfortunately tv is pretend and I don't actually run the seedy underbelly of a major city.”
They get to the register, and Lup digs into her purse for her wallet. “Well at least we don't have to worry about the paps following us around.”
“And we can go to Best Buy for tvs.”

After going to see the London Newsies production (finally!!!) I may be back in my Newsies era...
and so I thought I’d dig out some artefacts from previous Newsies eras- first up: this is an article I wrote in high school like 4 years before the 2011 Papermill Playhouse Production (text under the cut)
NEWSIES! NEWSIES! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Many of you will have been, or will be, paper boys or girls.  Just think about every time you cursed your job- how horrible your job was, and for such a small wage!  Now consider that you got to return to a warm house, and you could conceive the option of quitting.  The boys and girls of New York in the turn of the 20th Century who lived and worked as newsboys and news girls, or ‘Newsies’ as they were referred to, didn’t always have that option.  Although many lived at home with their families, you can guarantee they would have been living in a cramped apartment, probably shared with another family or two.
In the nineteenth century, America brought hope to people all over the world- a hope for safety and for freedom from persecution.  Because of this, immigrants flooded to the East coast of America, New York being the main entry point.  Most of the people coming off the ships had used their last pennies they had just to get to America, and those who hadn’t only had pennies left after the journey. This was the cause of the overcrowded city of immigrants.
Consider now how old you have to be by law to work.  The average age range for a Newsie in New York in 1899 was 8 and 15, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t five year olds out on the streets ‘carrying the banner’, in those days, if you could walk, you could work, even if you couldn’t walk there was still a chance- many disabled or injured Newsies would use their ailment to its full potential to gain sympathy from sympathetic passersby to buy a paper, or tip generously.  Some kids even faked an injury or handicap for these reasons.
The children living or working on the streets were not stupid as many at the time thought; they were street smart and knew every inch of their territories as a result of finding the best spots to sell at. They knew how to gamble, and they did, they gambled they smoked and they cursed their little mouths off.  The children knew exactly how to ‘improve the truth’ when there was a bad headline, ho to wheedle money out of those people on the street that had better fortune than they did; they would fumbled around in their pockets for a long time to find change so that the person buying the paper would grow impatient and leave before collecting change from a dime or nickel, or sometimes if a buyer was in a rush, they could sneak less change into their hand before they walked off.
They had to be good at what they did, they were the main distributors of the news- before television, before radio- you wouldn’t know what was happening in the rest of the world or country unless you bought a newspaper and the newsies distributed 90% of them.  The children first decided which paper they wanted to sell, then purchased a particular amount of papers from a distribution office.
When the Spanish Civil War broke out the newspapers sent ‘foreign war correspondents’  out to see what was going on, and to make up for their money losses decided to raise the price of the papers for the distribution apparatus from 50 cents per hundred papers to 60 cents per hundred, and while the newsies were making good profits, when they had good headlines this was fine, but after the war ended and sales dropped considerably, they were struggling to make ends meet- they had to pay for lodging, food and for their daily papers, but when you’re making only 30 cents a day this becomes increasingly harder and you are forced to skip meals, or sleep on the streets.  When this happened the papers lowered their prices again to 50 cents per hundred papers- every newspaper that is- apart from the New York World and the Journal owned by Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst.  This, coupled with the knowledge of a strike of some trolley workers in New York City, led to one of the biggest strikes in history- the newsie strike of 1899.
The most notable and famous newsies of the strike were Kid Blink- who supposedly led the strike, Race Track Higgins, who organized a rally at Irving Hall, a Vaudeville theater, and Spot Conlon, a known leader of Brooklyn, who is well know to have worn pink suspenders.   The strike itself ran from the 20th of July 1899 right through until partway into August and throughout this time the boys were known to fight with ‘scabs’ and rip up their forbidden newspapers (journal and world).  However while they were constantly making trouble for the everyday person with massive protest marches across the Brooklyn Bridge and their blow-out of a rally at Irving hall, the boys didn’t pick fights with ‘The Bulls’, or policemen as they are better known, choosing to leave them out of it- this didn’t mean they didn’t get arrested however; quite the opposite, not a day went by during the strike that at least one newsboy wasn’t arrested for ‘disturbing the peace’.  Another set of people who were free from violence were the news girls, the boys on strike refused to fight with the girls, and so they were free to sell the forbidden newspapers.
The strike, although it didn’t achieve exactly what the newsies had hoped to achieve, was a success.  The boys, a girls, of New York beat the likes of Pulitzer and Hearst to their knees and forced them to give in.  They came to an arrangement that, although the price of the papers would remain at 60 cent per hundred, they would have the right to sell back any unsold papers for a full refund at the end of the day, this way the newsies had less concerns about eating the loss of any unsold papers, and so didn’t really have to worry about buying too many at the beginning.
Kid Blink has been written about in story books and he along with Race Track, Spot and many other real-life newsies were portrayed in a Disney musical very loosely based on the strike, although not necessarily portrayed as just as important they were to the actual strike.

From the time she was a teenager, Jane Lotter, a lifelong resident of Seattle, loved to write — jingles for a greeting card company; news and features for a local real estate magazine; a weekly humour column in the now defunct Jet City Maven; and, most recently, a comic novel, completed shortly before her death last month.
Those best acquainted with her describe Ms. Lotter as a woman who had great spunk, knew her mind and, even at the age of 60 and dying of cancer, was wise beyond her years. So last spring, when she told her family that she was planning to write her own obituary, they weren’t too surprised, though they’d never heard of anyone doing that.
As her daughter, Tessa, said, “Of course you are.”
The good part about writing it yourself is that you know the material best and get the final word on your life.
On the other hand, a poorly written obituary would be a disastrous legacy for a writer.
The paid obituary, which was published on July 28 in The Seattle Times, began:
“One of the few advantages of dying from Grade 3, Stage IIIC endometrial cancer, recurrent and metastasized to the liver and abdomen, is that you have time to write your own obituary. (The other advantages are no longer bothering with sunscreen and no longer worrying about your cholesterol.)”
Part of the power of the piece — and this is what had journalists around the country posting it on their Twitter feeds — is that Ms. Lotter is talking to the reader from the grave. Or, in this case, from Elliott Bay, where her ashes were scattered.
Considering the subject matter, she wrote with admirable restraint, much of it in classic obituary style. She was a University of Washington graduate; married for 29 years to Bob Marts, a sound mixer for films and television; mother of Tessa, 23, and Riley, 19; preceded in death by father Michael, mother Margaret and younger sister Julie; survived by dear sisters Barbara, Kathleen and Patricia.
And so, when she does get personal, there is added power to her words: “I met Bob Marts at the Central Tavern in Pioneer Square on November 22, 1975, which was the luckiest night of my life. We were married on April 7, 1984. Bobby M, I love you up to the sky.”
Like any writer worth her salt, she used this final opportunity to list her awards and plug her book: “First Place in the Mainstream Novel category of the 2009 Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest for my comic novel, ‘The Bette Davis Club’ (available at Amazon.com).”
Even the best obituaries must leave much of a lifetime out, as Ms. Lotter herself noted: “I would demonstrate my keen sense of humor by telling a few jokes here, but the Times charges for these listings by the column inch and we must move on.”
To fill in some of the blanks, I spoke with Mr. Marts on Thursday. They met, he said, when he asked her to dance at that bar. He had long sideburns and was wearing bell bottoms; she wore granny glasses and beads.
Life was less formal then, and he never really proposed. “We were living together and needed a washing machine,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Why don’t we buy it together?’ And she said, ‘I don’t want to buy stuff together unless we get married.’ So I said, ‘O.K., let’s get married.’ ”
“Our life together has been frugal,” he said. “We never paid interest on anything, except the mortgage, bought used cars, ate well at home, went out when it was affordable.”
Ms. Lotter’s dream, Mr. Marts said, was to get a novel published, but she ran out of time and self-published it as an e-book.
In early 2010, she learned she had uterine cancer. She went through three treatments, lost her hair twice and by this past March knew she wasn’t going to make it. By then, she was the only one of the original members of her cancer support group still alive.
Over the last few months, she kept revising the obituary. She and Mr. Marts chose a picture from before they were married, taken in a photo booth at the Space Needle; for the newspaper, Mr. Marts cropped himself out.
Ms. Lotter took advantage of the state’s Death With Dignity Act. “Suicide is the opposite of how Jane saw her life,” Mr. Marts said. “She loved life. She just didn’t want to end up like a fish flopping on a dock.”
“It’s tricky,” he said. “You have to do it yourself. Some people wait too long and slip into a coma.”
On July 18, the couple and their two children gathered in the parents’ bedroom. Ms. Lotter asked to keep in her contact lenses, in case a hummingbird came to the feeder Mr. Marts had hung outside their window.
The last song she heard before pouring powdered barbiturates, provided by hospice officials, into a glass of grape juice was George Gershwin’s “Lullaby.” Then she hugged and kissed them all goodbye, swallowed the drink and, within minutes, lapsed into a coma and died.
It has been two weeks, and Mr. Marts thinks of her when he has to pay the bills. “She took care of all that,” he said. “She’d explained to me which were online, how she entered them in her ledger. She told me, but I was in denial. Now I’ll have to figure it out.”
Tessa, who works as a movie production assistant in Los Angeles, used to speak to her mother by phone daily. “She was a real source of reliable knowledge,” she said. “I’m only 23 years old and there’s a lot of things in life I have questions about.” (Riley, who is a student at the University of Washington, was working back-to-back 10-hour shifts as a bicycle delivery man for a sandwich shop that day, and didn’t have time to talk.)
“I was given the gift of life,” Ms. Lotter wrote toward the end of her obituary, “and now I have to give it back. This is hard. But I was a lucky woman, who led a lucky existence, and for this I am grateful.”
On Sunday, Aug. 4, a memorial service was held at the Great Hall at Green Lake in Seattle.
Mr. Marts handed out several hundred buttons based on the words his wife had used to sign off in her obituary: “Beautiful day, happy to have been here.”

RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM THE VALLEY
OFF-THE-WALL STORIES AND PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY OF ME.
:: TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2001 ::
I made a major household purchase today. I bought a 27-inch color television from the wonderful store Best Buy. Everyone might think this is no big deal, but to me, this is a life-altering experience. I have never owned a television and have never grown up in a house with the wonderful light box. My parents strictly forbid any electronic stimulates in our house. I begged and begged for a TV, but my parents would not budge on the issue. The only time I have ever viewed a TV was back a couple of years ago at a bar. It was the final episode of Seinfeld. I cheered as people raised their glasses to the lovable show. I watched people shed a tear when the final credits rolled across the screen. I knew from that day I wanted my very own pleasure machine.
So, now I have the box sitting in my living room. I bought my own place because my parents threw me out into the cold dark street because of my purchase. I do not blame them, I have defied them, but deep down in my heart, I know my dad would love 60 Minutes. My favorite shows are The Simpsons and the show with a creek in it named after a very smart boy who says many powerful lines. Even though my parents are communists, I believe they will one day forgive me and we can sit around my TV one day chanting to our new man of worship, Regis Philbin.

What To Look For When Buying A High-Quality And Affordable 50-Inch Smart TV?
Nowadays, almost every house has a smart television packed with modern features. If you also intend to switch to a brand new Ultra HD smart TV, it is essential to be cognizant of some crucial things beforehand. It is not wise to bring a television home without giving the size a priority. Remember that the available space in a room helps determine the ideal size of a television.
A TV that is between 55-65 inches long is perfect for a decently big living room, and a 40-43 inches television is suitable for a small living room or bedroom. Some leading television manufacturing brands have realised the need of people for a TV between 43 and 55 inches. Therefore, the production of a 50 inch Ultra HD TV has increased in recent years.
How to Choose the Appropriate TV Size?
When determining the suitable size of your television, you need to prioritise two essential things, including the available space in the room and your budget. The appropriate television size depends solely on the distance between your sofa or bed and the TV screen.
Also, you must consider how immersive and enjoyable you wish your television-watching experience to be. At present, all Ultra High Definition televisions are known for offering highly detailed pictures.
You can sit closer to such a television these days without viewing the pixels. However, it is not sensible to do so as this could strain your eyes a lot.
Here’s what to prioritise when choosing a television that offers a great view even in a room packed with viewers.
·       If you sit with others more than 6 feet from your television screen, choose a 40-inch television.
·       Go with a 60-inch TV if you are at least 9-10 feet away from your TV screen.
·       And, it is advisable to invest in the best 50 inch smart TV when the distance between your seat and the screen is 7.5 feet.
It is wise to mount your television on the wall to get extra room to work with.
Things that Matter the Most when Choosing a 50-Inch Smart Television
Viewing Angles
Viewing angles are essential when buying a High Definition television for your living room. It is appropriate when you place the television parallel to your eyes. It should not be 15-degree upside or downside and 40-degree right or left. It’s perfect when you can view your television perfectly from different angles. Otherwise, you may have to deal with the following issues:
·       Grey in several portions of the displayed image is black when you view it straight.
·       Colours have a lack of vibrancy
·       More prominence when halos, stripes and backlight clouds appear
Brightness
When you invest in a 50-inch TCL HDR TV and place it in a well-lit-up room, know that your television set will stand out because of its brightness. Small televisions have the same problem of lack of brightness.
The incorporation of High Dynamic Range technology into smart televisions has mitigated the low brightness issue. A proper HDR picture requires the television to display colour highlights and bright white. A television with enough brightness will not be able to do it and appear flat and detailless.
Resolution
You have the option these days to make a selection between HD and Ultra HD television. Do not forget that televisions with HD have a 1920 X 1080 pixels resolution, and Ultra HD television sets have a 3840 X 2160 resolution. Compared to HD TVs, the number of pixels of Ultra HD televisions is four times more, displaying pictures with remarkably higher resolution.
Sound
It’s fine to invest in a 4K HDR to get a brighter, high-quality image. However, ignoring the sound part is not prudent. To enjoy an aurally and visually immersive experience when watching your television, you must own a set that offers excellent audio-video output. Check the number of speakers the TV you wish to have and how the manufacturer has configured the built-in speakers.
The best decision you can make is to purchase a brand new TCL 50-inch smart TV at a reasonable price. You will enjoy the overall experience because this television ensures top-quality sound and visual output that budget-friendly televisions from other brands do not provide.

How to Choose the Best TV Electronics for Your Home in Delhi
Tumblr media
If you're looking to buy a new television set in Delhi, you're in luck. The market is filled with a variety of options that cater to all budgets and needs. But with so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming to select the right TV for your home. Here are some factors to consider when choosing the best LCD Repair RK Puram for your home in Delhi.
Screen Size
The screen size of a TV is one of the most important factors to consider. The size of the TV screen you choose should be based on the size of your room and the distance between the TV and the viewing area. For example, if you have a small room, a TV with a screen size of 32-43 inches will be appropriate. If you have a larger room, you can opt for a TV with a screen size of 50-60 inches.
Resolution
Resolution is another critical factor to consider when choosing a LCD TV Repair in South Delhi. The higher the resolution, the clearer and sharper the image will be. The most common resolutions available in the market are Full HD (1920 x 1080), 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160), and 8K Ultra HD (7680 x 4320). While 4K and 8K Ultra HD offer superior picture quality, they are more expensive than Full HD.
Display Type
TVs come in various display types, including LED, OLED, and QLED. LED TVs are the most common and affordable, while OLED and QLED are more expensive but offer superior picture quality. OLED TVs have better contrast and black levels, while QLED TVs offer brighter colors.
Smart TV Features
Smart TV features have become increasingly popular over the years, allowing users to access the internet and stream content from various platforms. If you plan on streaming content, consider buying a TV with built-in Wi-Fi and access to popular streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
Audio Quality
Audio quality is often overlooked when buying a TV, but it's just as important as picture quality. Look for TVs with built-in speakers that offer at least 20 watts of power output. If you want a more immersive audio experience, consider buying a soundbar or a home theater system.
Brand Reputation
The brand reputation of a TV manufacturer is another factor to consider when making a purchase. Opt for brands that have a good reputation in the market, such as Samsung, Sony, LG, and Panasonic. These brands are known for producing high-quality TVs that offer excellent performance and durability.

Conclusion
Choosing the best LCD Repair Dwarka for your home in Delhi can be overwhelming, but with these factors in mind, you'll be able to make an informed decision. Consider the screen size, resolution, display type, smart TV features, audio quality, brand reputation, and price when shopping for a TV.
