There is no heterosexual explanation for this

I woke up to a lovely comment that there were no implications of a possible Klaus/Sparrow!Ben canon (in capitals, no less) so I’d like to address that, point by point.

1. Klaus’s “kimono” line. This one’s definitely open for interpretation. It could be that Ben opened up to Klaus emotionally (being vulnerable and letting his true self out), or physically (sex) or both (what do they say about being open and vulnerable while having sex?). It’s kinda a 50/50 situation and no one can be 100% sure other than the show’s writers.

2. Luther’s line. Now in a writer’s pov this line is redundant and could have been cut—they could have moved immediately from Five’s “Everyone boning everyone” to his “Focus” line to steer the convo back to the topic); however, the editing room deliberately left it there so it gotta be something. About half the people there didn’t have sex the night before and Luther knew it, but he still brings up Ben and we all know who Ben spent the night with (dude called Klaus’s name first thing after he woke). Also, in the same morning scene, if you look closely, there’s something that looks suspiciously like a used condom on the floor.

3. The parallels between Klaus/Ben and the canon couples Luther/Sloane and Diego/Lila. First, in the Footloose sequence, when they dance in pairs and the pairing up foreshadows some of the later events: Viktor and Marcus and later they make a deal; or Jayme pushes Five down and later she does the same thing after spitting on him. Notice that only two pairs have some physical contacts, like holding hands, etc and they’re Luther/Sloane and Klaus/Ben. That’s not all. During the rooftop scene, the “couples” all cuddle while the singles (Viktor and Five) sit alone. Again, during Reggie’s Seven Bells explanation, the “couple” sit close and the singles (Five, Allison and Viktor) sit by themselves.

4. The elevator scene. They could have showed Klaus and Ben alone, doing their own thing like most of the others but they’re showed together. Klaus tries to put his arm around Ben, likely in an attempt to reconcile with him and Ben pushes him away. Ben’s pretty short-tempered and prone to physical violence (punching Klaus and slapping Fei), which is something he needs to improve; he could have used more force if he truly hated Klaus. Instead, he acts like someone who’s being annoyed with their boyfriend but doesn’t really want to hurt him. Textbook tsundere behavior.

5. Finally, I’ve seen quite a few people advocating for queer Ben and citing evidence in his manners, speech, fashion, etc., which is kinda stereotypical but I digress. The obvious signs of Ben’s queerness lie in his being very comfortable with physical intimacy with Klaus, who he’s known for, like, a week. Moreover, I’m willing to bet most straight men will panic if they wake up half-naked, next to a man wearing just his underwear. Ben doesn’t, meaning he’s most definitely not straight.

To sum up, everyone can ship whatever they want because it’s the whole point of fiction. And just because you didn’t see—or refused to see these aforementioned points doesn’t mean others couldn’t.

Summary: Viktor has been acting very strangely since the Umbrella Academy arrived in this timeline. Not "not acting like himself" strange so much as "definitely acting like someone else" strange.

Comments: Despite the summary, this is 100% a Ben fic. Both Bens. Because what sucks worse than body dysphoria is realizing that sometimes, you're not even you. Sorry Viktor, you're possessed by what's left of your brother but he'd really rare possess his alternate self if that means anything? Very nicely written fic from primarily Sparrow!Ben so you get lots of his moodiness which is a delight.

Why didn't Ben go into the light?

So, in S2 Ben had told Viktor to tell Klaus that he wasn't the reason Ben had stayed all these years. However, it kinda contradicts what he said earlier wherein the last few years were just "gravy"

Honestly don't know what he meant by that. I don't think anyone does?

But the biggest question is, if Klaus wasn't the reason, then what was Ben's reason for not passing? What did he hope to achieve by being Klaus's ghost companion for fifteen years?

Or is it, that what he said to Viktor was just the last thing he could do for Klaus to not make him feel guilty? I mean, he already told Viktor that he's not a monster and that he's his brother even when Ben obviously was the monstrous one in their siblings (judging by powers and being dead for years). Like, he didn't want Klaus to feel guilty and wanted him to have a somewhat good outlook of their years together so he just said Klaus wasn't the reason even when he probably was?

I just honestly can't think of anything or anyone else he would stay for?

Ben crushing Klaus and tossing him. Luther landing on Klaus' dead body. The fight is so much more serious now. The rivalry has a body count right out the gate. The Hargreeves regrouping at the park but this time they're all learning/processing that Klaus is dead.

Klaus doesn't take them to the hotel. What the hell are they going to do? More than one will be more than eager to go right back and finish the job. Kill every single one of those bastards for Klaus. At least one Hargreeve will keep their head and convince them to wait and make a real plan. Catch their breath at least. It'll do nothing to just go back and die now.

What if Viktor struggles with his powers all over again. As if he only just got them back and has no idea how to stop himself from going back to that state that destroyed the world. Viktor almost making it back to take down the academy all over again.

Klaus reanimating at the academy. Reginald finding him fascinating. Does Klaus even know he died? Does he talk to his mom again? Will he leave for his family or does he stay? Will the sparrows allow him to leave? How will Klaus react to the fact that Ben crushed him to death with his tentacles. For the first time in his life, will Klaus actually fear them? Or will he roll with the punches the same as always. An emotional looney toon. Bonk him on the head and he'll just bounce right back. Water under the bridge. We all have bad days.

Luther: I know our ben still in there *points at Ben's chest*

Ben: My nipple?

Luther: YOUR HEART
