posting this out of order because i'm REALLY PROUD of it. hi this is the Wild!!! I finally gave it a design, based on the mycorrhizal network prompt :]

Uhhh. Basically, the Wild is a Being (in summary, a god-thing that both rules over, and is, its domain)! Its domain is the Ancient Glade, an enormous old growth forest located in the Dreaming local group. During the construction of the group's senior, a large portion of the Wild's domain was destroyed, so the Wild basically went into hibernation because it had been severely weakened.

This reference is for what the Wild would look like if it were to wake up (right now its body is eepy asleepy in a clearing somewhere deep in the Ancient Glade, and pretty overgrown). Its body is vaguely rain deer-shaped, but is technically a complex network of plants and fungi working together as one! Because I think it's really cool :]]

Technically the entirety of the Wild's domain would be considered a mycorrhizal network, but I don't want to make a reference for an entire region LOL. Just know that the Ancient Glade is extremely dangerous and trespassing creatures almost always mysteriously disappear (read: get eaten). It is by a stroke of luck that the Wild tolerates the presence of TERRA's creatures.

oooh so i am curious thogh are there any fanon interpretations of snatcher/conductor/grooves you do like? i also feel like fanon is kind of unappealing for a lot of characters too so that is why i’m asking

Though I haven't finished all of it I do love @/banyana's Beingverse characterizations of Snatcher, that is all very delicious to me and gets the brain chemicals to produce the Happy ones

As for Conductor and Grooves, uhhhmmnmhhhmuuhhhhhhh . Nothing specific is coming to mind I read a whole bunch of fics featuring the two of them a long while back, and some'a those were pretty good! There are points though that it just feels like whole separate characters are made, which I see little issue with given canon being lackluster as it is shkdjgh. Unfortunately I can't remember which fics were which :( To be completely honest though I am usually partial towards characterizations that lean towards canon, albeit "fixing" what GFB screwed up massively with the ending Hard to find that tho as most people reasonably don't want to touch canon shdkgJHKJH So in my own writing I will still make Conductor an angry pissbaby of a selfish old man even if I do MUCH prefer the Beta Conductor characterization (wherein he's more of an actual grandpa), but if I have to redeem him this bad boy's getting complexity and also will not be redeemed at the drop of a hat. Some sincerity and genuine remorse for his actions would be sick Basically I like characterizations that acknowledge the faults of canon but work with them as opposed to against them - but also doing so fucking Sucks in scenarios such as Grooves Winning and the contradictory mess that is whatever the game's message is supposed to be . so it's. I am just sitting here basically sdhgkLJH

I want it all to be fucked up but I want it to be fucked up and purposeful if that makes sense

Slime Science: On The Nature Of Beings

The first thing you need to know about Beings is that they are Not the same as gods. A god can be considered master of a specific aspect, they have immense control of their element. On the other hand, Beings are the aspect, not something in control of the aspect. Beings have two major types: Aspects (e.g. Time, Magic) and Locations (e.g. Aarde) Aspects are almost always the more powerful of the two, and for the most part stay out of the business of mortals (Any sentient creature). This is good, as the full attention of an Aspect Being can obliterate someone. They embody an aspect of reality, and tend to have one per universe (Universe A's Time is a different Being to Universe B's Time). If necessary, they can mark a mortal as a beacon in order to be able to find them later. Time does this the most often (Incredibly Rare to happen, but they've done it the most) as it's the easiest way for them to find a point in history. If you see an Aspect Being and live to tell the tale, consider yourself very lucky. -------------------------------------------------------- Location Beings are less powerful, but more common. They embody physical locations, from cities to entire stars. They are also *Very* territorial and they lack the concept of collateral damage. If two Location Beings get two close to each other, they almost always end up fighting for territory. This can end in the death of one or both of the Beings. The major exception is if two Beings are Planet and Moon to each other, in this case, they appear to tolerate each other at worst. Location Beings tend to keep their territory in good condition, and can spend years working on the appearance of their home. Beings of both types (mostly Location Beings but not always) can, for lack of a better term, "adopt" a mortal into their territory. This usually ends in the Being trying to keep the mortal safe. Imagine a giant eldritch creature trying to mother you like a cat, that's basically what it's like. Beings can die, but it won't affect whatever they are tied to. Aspects will still run just fine and Locations won't wilt and crumble. After a while, a Being will reform, but unless they are one of the three major Aspects (Time, Death, or Magic), they won't keep their memories

As for why those three can keep memories, I'm afraid that's classified.

Lore: The Void

Talks about void fluid, the Void, and void creatures. Contains spoilers for Rain World and LOTS of headcanons (including many headcanons from the Hollow Knight fandom).

Void is a Being (essentially a deity/force of nature that has a domain; a Being both rules over and is their domain). It’s non-corporeal, meaning it doesn’t have a physical location as its domain; rather, its domain is a fundamental part of existence.

Void in its base form is known as “multiversal void,” and it is found outside of and in-between all worlds/universes. Void can also be found inside of worlds; this void is known as “corporeal void.” Corporeal void comes in various types/flavors, many of which are exclusive to a single world.

It is known by many names, including “darkness,” “nothingness,” etc. Note that some worlds have magic that is referred to as darkness; this magic is not the same as the void.

Keep in mind that Void is not a simple force of nature or resource; it is autonomous and possibly sentient! While some may think that Void is malicious, it is not; it is merely doing what it is meant to do.

Multiversal Void's Properties

The OG void that exists outside and in-between all worlds. These properties are shared with most or all other types of void.

Doesn't follow the laws of time and space. Time doesn't really exist in the multiversal void, and physical space as we know it isn't a thing either. This means that any amount of void is, technically, infinite.

Is inherently dangerous to living things. This is thanks to the simple fact that void is nothingness, and if you put a something into nothingness, that something will disappear.

Helps worlds retain their shape and acts like a buffer between them. If a world were to somehow be taken out of the void, that world would quickly disintegrate, much like a deep sea fish being brought to the surface of the ocean. Inside of worlds, void often helps stabilize reality and keeps it from tearing apart.

Warps reality. In cases where it is possible to obtain tangible void, it by its very nature wiggles the fabric of reality a little.

Converts things into more void. This is how voidspawn exist.

Voidspawn

“Voidspawn” is a general term for creatures made out of void. They are part of Void but are still separate and have their own personalities, memories, and goals. The connection between voidspawn and the Void itself is like leaves being connected to a tree; the leaves are an extension of the tree but are still different from it.

Voidspawn can be made from any type of void. Their appearance and abilities generally reflect their void type. In addition, there are various species of voidspawn for each type of void. Occasionally new species spontaneously appear (such as Explorer’s), but they can also be artificially created (like the vessels from Hallownest). Some void creatures don’t belong to a particular species at all.

Voidspawn are created either spontaneously or through an existing creature being assimilated. In some cases being converted into void can be an unpleasant process, and this process is nicknamed “void sickness.”

Here are some abilities that voidspawn generally share:

They are able to sense void. This includes sources of corporeal void and other void creatures. Generally the intensity of the sensory input depends on proximity.

Shapeshifting. Void is weird as heck and voidspawn are usually capable of changing their shape or even size (while casually disobeying the law of conservation of mass). The actual shapeshifting ability of an individual depends on their void type, species, and their experience/skill.

Telepathy. The extent of this varies wildly, but at the vary least voidspawn are able to sense each others’ strong emotions. For proper telepathy, some voidspawn can only communicate with fellow void creatures; others can use telepathy with non-void creatures as well.

Many of them can use their void to store items. Since void doesn’t obey time/space, it’s great for storing just about anything, and perishable foods won’t rot when stored in void. In Explorer’s case she just sticks an object in her fur and it disappears. (Why get a bag of holding when you are the bag of holding?)

Immortality, or at least being hard to kill permanently. Even in the case of vessels, if their shell is destroyed they will persist as a shade. Voidspawn also can’t really get sick or die of old age, since they aren’t biological creatures.

Fewer physical needs than biological creatures. Most voidspawn don’t need to eat or drink water, and plenty don’t need to sleep either. Some species do need to eat but their dietary requirements are unusual.

There are some general “void instincts” that voidspawn tend to have:

Consume and convert. This involves turning things into void, including living things.

Protect what is yours. Voidspawn can be highly territorial over not just land but also belongings and loved ones.

Protect what is a part of you. In other words, defend other void creatures. Some voidspawn may also react badly to corporeal void being misused.

The intensity of each instinct varies wildly from individual to individual. Some may have very powerful instincts, while for others they are very faint. Also, the third instinct may not be as strong for creatures of a different void type.

If two void creatures were to meet - even if they are members of different species - they would immediately feel a sort of kinship. They are both Void, after all.

Sorry this took so long. Tbh I had a hard time because I don't have that many options to choose from lol. Everything I've written in the last few years has been A Hat in Time

Catching Icarus

Blorbo bias. This is an oc-centric continuation story of Hide and Seek, which I would say stat-wise is probably my most well known fic? Follows the character journey of Tevane, the former captain and pseudo-antagonist of ch17 of H&S, as he struggles with the realization that he's rather far off course from being the kind of person he wants to be. Soul-searching coincidentally brings him back to Earth to meet an exiled fugitive Time scientist Lemel, who he hopes can use their knowledge of alternate timelines to give him clear answers about whether he can fix what he's done wrong. Canon-typical Earth shenanigans conspire to strand him on the planet, and together they get immersed in deeper mysteries of Time and magic...and grow closer as friends in the process.

There's a lot I think I would fix but also this was just a lot of fun and I'm really happy with the overarching character arcs of everyone and the way it ties into the themes of Hide and Seek overall. Also just an exploration of a variety of deep platonic love in various forms. It makes me happy.

Ill-Fated

Gift for Bany in their Beingverse AU setting.

Wanted to make a horror story from the perspective of people being hunted by pre-character-development Snowl, who likes to play with his food. A couple of filmmakers, desperate for a big break in their own ways, sneak into the forbidden Subcon Forest in hopes of unraveling the truth of the deadly place.

I think the writing on a technical level really holds up in this one tbh. I like rereading it. Sometimes you just get possessed and write something really good.

Not as simple as the storybooks, my love

The seasons of love for the prince and Vanessa, starting from childhood to death.

Follows the headcanon that they met in childhood and genuinely loved each other once. This is an exploration for how that changed, as well as the ways love can get twisted. In all honesty, I don't really put that much thought into the pre-freeze characterizations ^^" but prose-wise I think this one holds up like Ill-Fated.

Luka

Part of the written series for Mak's Oh the Humanity AU. Hat and Bow are invited to the premiere of their movie collab with both Conductor and DJ Grooves and convince Snatcher to get dressed up with them and attend a party, despite his hesitation around crowds and social events. Not only do they convince him, he has a few crucial realizations about what he sees in himself.

I've made no secret this is my favorite of the OtH series. The character dynamics have really settled into place, and it just feels good. He's starting to really feel genuine joy in his body and self. This is the self-love story and I like it.

Hide and Seek

The classic Dadtcher and Moonparent fic. Hat Kid returns to Earth after a dissatisfying reunion back home and revisits her old haunts. After starting the Death Wish challenges with Snatcher as a chance to have some fun together, she starts noticing he's acting a bit strange...almost like he actually cares. And she notices that she feels pretty good about that. To balance that somewhat confusing relationship, her friendship with Moonjumper brings stability to both her and Snatcher and the three of them start to truly Find Family.

Almost feel obligated to put this here since it's what started everything and respect your roots and all that. I wouldn't have written any of the above without this fic after all, and it's brought a lot of good into my life, especially some incredible friendships.
