Welcome to Wakayama. Today we are going for a roadtrip!
We started from Susami a cute little Town and we will go to the Nachi Falls!
Our first stop is the Book & Turkish Bazaar in Kushimoto to get a coffee.
This place has some history as a turkish ship the "ottoman frigate", sunk here, in 1890.
And after that we drive just 5 more minutes to reach the Hashiguiiwa Rocks. A beautiful and amazing rock formation.
This mysterious, natural work of art, featuring a straight line of large and small unusually shaped rocks which stretches for around 850 meters, appears to be the stakes of a bridge.
The fantastic scenery colored by the sunrise is especially popular as a photo-taking spot.
One legend says that the monk Kobo Daishi attempted to build a bridge here.
After driving for another hour it is lunch time and we stop at the fishmarket It is also an Onsen area with free footbaths here.
Katsuura Gyoko Nigiwai-Ichiba.
Unfortunately the place we came here for is closed today.
But there are many other restaurants here.
Full of energy we get back on the road.
Going for the main attraction of today Kumano Nachi Taisha grand shrine, Nachisan Seigantoji Temple a world heritage and Hitaki shrine / Nachi Falls.
After parking at the entrance of the mountain we start to walk up the endless stairs. And on the way we find a few cute stores.
The sky is beautiful today and I went for a peek down. You can already see nachi falls from here.
Then we arrive at the entrance of the Kumano Nachi Taisha grand shrine.
This large Camphor tree has a hollowed out trunk and is estimated to be 850 years old.
If you walk through with a gomagi or an ema it is said to clean you.
Right next to it is the Nachisan Seigantoji Temple a world heritage.
The Architecture is amazing and its centuries old.
The famous 3 storied pagoda that you can see next to Nachi Falls is part of this Temple.
From here on we walk towards the Nachi falls and you can see it come closer and closer.
The waterfall has an amazing uninterupted drop of 133 meters and is with that the highest uninterupted waterfall in all of Japan!
At the foot of the waterfall is the Hitaki shrine.
But to get there we need to go down the hill on this Ghibli path the Nature is amazing and the air is really fresh.
There is a photographer here and you can buy a professional photo. You can also pay a small entrance fee to get even closer.
Inside you can find lucky charms and these cool charms that show a text after you lay it on the water.
This is the closest spot to the waterfall the energy is amazing!
