Spring 1940. "I hate to take human life," says the man with the machine gun mounted on his plane. Batman guns down Hugo Strange's men and hideously transformed "man-monsters" in a scene from the third story in BATMAN #1. This was the only Batman solo story in the early issues of BATMAN, and I have a suspicion that it was originally slated for DETECTIVE COMICS #38, only to be bumped by the debut of Robin.
