my cousin is a nerd but he’s a different species of nerd and we were talking TROP today and it’s fascinating. He loved TROP but disliked Adar because he didn’t want gray characters in his black and white Tolkienverse (he doesn’t consider Boromir or Isildur gray characters). He doesn’t ship Haladriel, which, totally okay, but the reason why he doesn’t is because he doesn’t think romance needs to be brought where originally there is none. He doesn’t read fanfic, it’s fascinating
