Op zaterdag 10 februari zingt vrouwenkoor Baba Jaga haar jaarlijkse concert in het Verhalenhuis in Haarlem. Vrouwenkoor Baba Jaga zingt ruim 20 jaar met veel plezier onder de enthousiaste leiding van dirigent Michelle Mallinger. De 14 zangeressen uit Zuid-Kennemerland zingen een breed klassiek repertoire van middeleeuwen tot heden. Soms met een uitstapje naar de jazz- en popmuziek. Dit keer neemt Baba Jaga het publiek mee op een reis door de schitterende klanken van hedendaagse en klassieke koormuziek uit Engeland en Amerika, aangevuld met de onweerstaanbare swing van jazz. De Engelse componist Bob Chilcott heeft meesterlijke composities geschreven die een brug slaan tussen de klassieke en jazz stijlen. Baba Jaga zingt zijn ‘Little Jazz Mass’ en ‘5 Songs’. De betoverende harmonieën van Eric Whitacre zijn te horen in drie liederen voor 3-stemmig vrouwenkoor. Het concert wordt afgesloten met enkele bekende jazz-standards, waaraan ook de jonge bariton, Oscar Rodenburg een bijdrage zal leveren. Hij is 4e jaars-student aan de jazz-opleiding van het Amsterdams conservatorium. Het gehele concert wordt swingend begeleid door (jazz)-pianist Jaap Stork. Het concert is op zaterdag 10 februari om 20.00 uur in het Verhalenhuis, Van Egmondstraat 7 in Haarlem. Kaarten kosten € 20 per persoon incl. een drankje na afloop van het concert. De kaartverkoop voor het concert loopt via de website van het Verhalenhuis.

Zhadanov walked trough the remains of what was once a battlefield,his footsteps leaving a trail in the wet mud,his bodyguards in their heavy armor where leaving a much more consistent trail,one deep enough to be seeded,maybe some poppy seeds would have found their way in and nourished by the rotting corpses of the ss would have flourished. "Mine was in Minsk." the unit leader said whit a voice full of spite,zhadanov firmly put his hand on the soldier plasma rifle before he could do anything to the young ss or his older colleague "calm yourself down,they have the right to a fair trial" the great leader said in a warmer tone "give me a cynide pill and let's get over with this shit,I will not stand a sham trial" the old ss said "I can do better" Zhadanov said while extracting his personal plasma pistol and aiming it at the head of the old man "for the supposed master race you die no different" Zhadanov remarked while a grin formed on his face "look at your technology! How could this be a fair fight!" The young man erupted again "it is not,war is not fair" the great leader replied while shooting the old man in the head,giving him peace,the young man stared with his eyes wide open at the headless corpse "war is unfair,life is unfair,the winner takes it all and the looser die,this are the basis of your rotten ideology, and what has this brought to you? Ruin,Germany is in ruin,burgundy is in ruin and so is most of the world,your Reich and his allies have been a scourge to the world" Zhadanov stared the young ss in the eyes while he talked,making sure to deliver the point,and then,before the ss could reply.

Witches in Croatian/Slavic mythology and folklore

In Croatian folklore and Slavic folklore in general, there are a lot of witches, sorceress’ and other magical feminine figures. 

The most famous Slavic with is Baba Yaga (Granny Jaga), an old hag that lives in a cottage that stands on chicken legs (sometimes described as being surrounded by a spikey fence with skulls on it). In some stories she eats people, mostly children, which led to parents telling their children stories about her and scaring them so they would behave. Baba Jaga is often called Baba Roga, but sometimes Baba Roga is considered a seperate witch.

There a lot of names and origin stories for witches. In Istria (a part of coastal Croatia next to the Mediterrenian sea) a which is called ŠTRIGA. It’s described as an old granny that practises dark magic or just naturally is very powerful. They are also described as beautiful sometimes, taking that shape in order to lure in men. They can shapeshift into animals, so it’s said that if you ever see a white dog and a black dog fighting on a crossroad to leave. That’s štriga (black dog) fighting a KRSNIK (white dog, vampire/supernatural hunter born with a white placenta).Sometimes the name štriga is another word used for STRIGOI (a vampire).
