how i love being a woman ♥︎
"Goddess of Beltane, Sacred Mother, Queen of May, Wild Lady of the Woods, Guardian of Love and Life, welcome to our circle. We women, powerful and sacred, declare upon this Hallowed Night, our heavenly bodies belong solely to us. We shall choose whom to love, and with whom to share trust. We shall walk upon this earth with grace and respect. We'll always take pride in our great intellect. We'll honor our emotions so our spirits may soar! And should any man belittle us, we'll show him the door! Our spirits are unbreakable, our imaginations free! Walk with us, Goddess, so blessed are we!" — by the young women of Avonlea

Can you write Gilbert x fem!reader courting Headcannons?
Gilbert Blythe x Reader
[FLUFF]
- - -
we all know Gilbert is a gentleman
he would never dare do or say anything to make you uncomfortable
that being said, he was always careful around you; whether it's a chaperoned meeting or not
for example the first time he suggested that he walk you home he made sure to choose his words wisely
"if you would like, could I please walk you home?" he said quietly so no one heard
he didn't want you to have the pressure of people watching you in case you didn't accept his offer
"you're more than welcome to decline," he added, a smile appearing on his face
he knew that sometimes the boys in the school felt entitled, so he feared that you would say yes out of politeness or necessity
however, you two almost being adults now and finishing school, he decided he would just make a move already, not even caring if he was rejected - at least that way he would know he needed to move on
"it would be my pleasure to have you escort me home," you responded
you had been waiting for this moment ever since Tilly had started getting noticed by boys
the two boys fighting over Tilly's attention caused a domino effect of all the guys acting on their affections
it was only a matter of time before Gilbert finally swallowed his pride and asked you
everybody had a subconscious inkling that they should not ask to walk you home - obviously Gilbert lay no claim over you, as did no one else, but it has been a long going theory that you two would end up together
so, as you two walked home, Gilbert holding your basket in his left hand, and your arm holding onto his right elbow, practically the whole school stood watching
whispers of "i knew it!" and "you owe me" could be heard amongst them
"alright, alright, everybody make your way home now," said miss stacey as she tried to get through the big group of students blocking the doorway
now onto the serious business
Gilbert had wanted to meet your parents as soon as possible since it was the proper and gentlemanly thing to do
he brought hand picked flowers for your mother, offering her a kind smile and a bow as he was welcomed inside
a beautiful pink tulip stood in his own jacket pocket as he presented it to you
"for the beautiful lady," he said
your parents, of course, loved him
there was nothing to dislike
him and your father babbled on about farm work and business plans
him and your mother talked about school and studies, him mentioning how he wanted to become a doctor
this undoubtedly impressed them
"a doctor! oh how pleasant - where are you planning to study?" they asked frantically
you begged them to not bombard him with questions but he assured you it was okay
the night ended with Gilbert promising to return, letting your mother know he would bring her some of Sebastian's spices for his next visit
come spring, Gilbert invited you to join him at the carnival
this was your first chaperoned visit outside the home, so it was quite a big deal
it was also the first time you'd officially confirm to Avonlea that you two were courting
you were nervous to say the least
you had worn your best dress, and finally being old enough, your mother helped you put on your corset
you looked positively sophisticated
your hat placed gently on your head, you climbed into the carriage, Gilbert grasping your hand in his to help you up as he followed soon after
it was no surprise to the citizens of Avonlea that you came together, however the presence of the Charlottetown people and others from beyond the county had made you feel overwhelmed
you hooked your arm around Gilbert's, letting him lead you deeper into the festivities
feeling your worry he placed his hand upon yours, squeezing it ever so slightly before letting go
the rest of the evening was filled with him competing in games just to win you little gifts
on one instance he came up to you, face smug with his hands hidden behind his back
"pick a side"
"hmm... left," you had said
he revealed his left hand, showing that it was empty
this was followed by him popping out his right hand with a little fluffy dog plushie as he shook it slightly in his hand
"wrong. i guess i get to keep it now," he said sarcastically
you laughed at his antics, slapping his arm affectionately
there was never a dull moment that day, especially with him complimenting you each and every moment
all of Avonlea (and more) now knew that you and Gilbert were taken, and if it wasn't obvious by anything else that i've said, it definitely became evident by the 5 millionth time that Gilbert would introduce you to people as "charming", "gorgeous", "lovely" or any other word in his expansive vocabulary
he is the king of praising istg he would not shut up about you the whole night
Gilbert made sure to always let you know that he only ever had his eyes on you, and that no woman could ever compare to you
he had a way to make you always feel special
whether it be finding flowers for you, cooking for you, helping you study, etc.
your first ever unchaperoned visit came a while after
it was after you guys had graduated and received your exam results
your parents felt you were old and mature enough, and they trusted Gilbert wholeheartedly to let you finally have tea together
Gilbert decided to take you to a beautiful café in Charlottetown called Great Aunt Anne's
he of course insisted on paying even though you told him it wasn't necessary
"what kind of a future husband would I be if I didn't make sure my lady was taken care of?"
future husband
at this you blushed deeply, just now realizing that he planned on proposing eventually
it didn't hit you until now but this newfound knowledge made you excited for your future with him
the date consisted of many laughs and jokes, your conversations leading you anywhere and everywhere
once dessert arrived he plucked a piece of whipped cream off his pie and smushed it onto your nose, laughing as he did so
"so childish, Blythe," you had said
at the end he escorted you home on the train, and waited with you for your carriage to come
you told him you'd be okay on your own from here but he didn't feel comfortable making you go home on your own
so as he walked you to your door, his hand itching to hold yours, he stopped you in your tracks to turn you towards him
"I meant what I said," he started, "I do intend to marry you one day. maybe not now, or any time soon, but if you'll have me, I will make you a promise that one day I will be yours forever"
he leaned in slowly, his hand reaching to the back of your neck as he pulled you in
"can I?"
with a hasty nod, you pulled him in by his jacket, your lips finally meeting in desperation
you had waited so long to do that
and now as you went to your bedroom, giddy as a schoolgirl, you plopped onto your bed and sighed
being future Mrs. Blythe sounded really good to you...

Mrs. Andrews is the perfect example of how we need to teach boys too about feminism. She wanted Prissy to go to college and have a life of her own, but the same way she should have made sure her own son Billy wasn't one of the bullies against women & their choice & consent.

Truce
Gilbert Blythe X Reader
[FLUFF]
Summary: Reader and Gilbert had always had an unspoken rivalry in school, yet when Gilbert comes back from his time away after his father's death, things change.
- - -
Tumblr media
Gilbert had been gone for quite some time now. 11 months, 3 weeks and 1 day.
Not that you were counting...
You were glad he had decided to travel before having to settle in Avonlea. You were glad he was dealing with his father's death in a healthy way, and most of all, you were glad you didn't have anybody to compete with in school besides Anne.
Maybe that last part was a lie, however you would not admit that to yourself.
You had managed to convince yourself that what you missed about Gilbert not being here was the academic stimulation you would get with him in class. Yet Anne was just as smart, if not smarter, so you were most definitely not lacking competition between classmates.
No, it wasn't that at all.
Funnily enough you didn't think you would notice he was even gone. But his presence - or lack thereof - had a deep impact on pretty much the whole class.
No more seeing his smug smile when he'd get something right and you didn't, or the way his cheeks turned rosy when he'd have to walk to school in deep snow during the winter months. And most of all, no more hearing his voice when he'd answer a question that nobody else knew the answer to, or when he'd stand up to Billy for Anne.
You never knew you'd miss him so much.
Nevermind. Miss was a strong word. You couldn't possibly miss Gilbert Blythe... But somewhere deep down, you knew it was true.
The last time you two had spoken had struck something inside of you. It was like you didn't realize he was a real, and normal, human being up until that point.
I mean, your whole relationship had consisted of you two bothering eachother in class and fighting for the top place in your studies. Nowhere between those first few months of meeting him had you noticed he was actually a pretty decent guy to be around.
Your mind wandered to the last time you saw him.
- - -
Trudging through the snow, you could see the Blythe house come into view in the distance.
Anne had caught a cold and Marilla had kindly asked you if you could bring Gilbert some bread she had baked for him. She was very close with his father in her teen years, so his death had really rocked her world. You couldn't say no to her, so of course you accepted her request.
You could feel the icy snowflakes melt into the soles of your shoes, causing your body to shake with cold.
You couldn't believe you were going through all this trouble for Gilbert Blythe. Yet as you approached his fence, opening the gates to walk in, you were met with a deep sadness.
You couldn't imagine what he was feeling right now. The two of you had never been close, so the thought of comforting him was a foreign idea, and you didn't know what you would say once he opened the door.
Knocking on the freezing cold door, you waited for a response. You half expected him to not open the door - that's what you would have done.
But Gilbert isn't you. He had a strange kindness that you had rarely found in anyone else besides Anne and Diana. He was never one to turn away a stranger, or even a friend. Not that you two were friends.
The point is, you knew you would see his brown curls pop up into view, his neck adorned with fabrics and thick scarves.
"Going somewhere?" you asked, curious to his attire.
Gilbert looked you up and down, his eyes filled with confusion. The last thing he expected was for you to visit him - even given the circumstances.
"Uh - Y/N. Um... yeah kind of..." he trailed off, his mind seeming to be somewhere else.
You nodded slowly, feeling out of place on his porch. All you had to do was give him the bread, offer your condolences, and leave.
A part of you felt like you should do more. Say more. But - what can you possibly say to a teenager who has just lost his father.
"Marilla made you some bread. For your travels," you said awkwardly. Extending your arm, you offer Gilbert the basket of warm bread, the heat that once radiated off it dissappearing from your side.
You could see a ghost of a smile appear on his face for a split moment, before his face fell again. He took the basket with an appreciative nod.
You two stood in silence for a moment, looking at eachother in anticipation. You had hoped he would say something - and here he was hoping the same thing.
Swallowing your pride you decided to break the silence.
"Gilbert, I know we don't usually get along but... I really am sorry for your loss. I..." you hesitated saying the last part, but again, burrying your previous notions of him, you spoke again, "If ever need an unbiased ear to listen to you, you know where I live."
Gilbert nodded again. He seemed to be doing a lot of that. His lips pursed, his mind racing with so many thoughts that you could almost see it in his eyes.
"Thank you..."
Deciding that your visit had come to it's inevitable end you turned around, beginning to walk down the porch stairs and back into the sea of white.
The one thing you didn't see coming was for him to call you back.
"Wait. Y/N," he called out.
Halting your movements you turned around only to see him closing his door and making his way towards you in the snow.
He had a serious look on his face, as if he was on a mission. You had only ever seen his expression come close to this when he was concentrating on a spelling bee or a test.
"I am actually going somewhere... It's - I-" he huffed, frustrated with his own lack of words.
Gilbert was never at a loss for words.
"It's about my father. I just need to get away from here and - I don't want to be stuck in Avonlea forever. I'm going to see the world, weigh out my options, you know?" he finished. He had clearly thought about this a lot, as he pretty much spewed the words out with such speed that you had barely even processed what he said.
"Okay." you didn't know what to say. The last thing you expected was to hear that Gilbert was leaving. To say the least, you were quite taken aback. You didn't think you were quite ready to let him go.
"Okay?" he asked.
"Okay. If that's what's best for you then you should go. It's just too bad I'll be top of the class by the time you come back," you joked.
At this Gilbert's signature smile reappeared. His dimples were deep in his cheeks, and the air around him turned cloudy as he gave a small chuckle.
You liked that you made him laugh. Your chest almost swelled with pride, and as you saw his dimples form in his cheeks you felt a blush form on your own face.
"I wouldn't count on it."
Again, you two seemed to stand in silence, not knowing what to say. The previous encounter had made you realize that you liked being civil with Gilbert. Honestly, you didn't even remember why you never became friends. Both of you were in the same boat of wanting to do well in school, what was so different about your two situations that you never once talked to him in a friendly way?
"Gilbert?" you started, not sure if you should speak your thoughts or not.
He hummed in response, waiting for you to continue. Gilbert was always a great listener, you could tell. Especially with how his eyes sparkled with interest whenever anyone would speak to him. His eyes, were they always such a warm colour?
You shook yourself out of your thoughts.
"We don't want you to leave me in bad memory do we?" you asked rhetorically.
"Truce?" you finally asked, holding out your gloved, shaky hand.
His own fabric covered fingers came to meet with yours as you shook hands.
"Truce."
Something in the air seemed to shift when your hands met, and it definitely wasn't just you that felt it. Gilbert's hand was glued to yours even after you had stopped shaking. The two of you stood, chest to chest, watching eachother's breath form in the frozen air. His brows were furrowed, brown eyes concentrated on yours. With a nod he gently let go of your hand before walking backwards to his house.
"I'll see you around, Y/N."
"See you around, Gilbert."
And with that, you went your separate ways, not looking back for fear that it would bring a newfound sadness. Had you and Gilbert just become friends?
- - -
When you had woken up this morning you didn't think you would be seeing the one and only Gilbert Blythe, sitting back in his old seat, smiling away at his friends.
You were not prepared for this sight. Not one bit.
As you walked into the schoolhouse it was the first thing you saw. You didn't even have time to take off your coat and hat before the rest of the girls and boys were yelling to you that Gilbert was back.
As the girls crowded around you, you craned your neck to look over all of their heads, only to be met with those dazzling brown eyes that you had secretly missed so much.
Secretly was not a word Diana and Anne would use, as to them it was so obvious that you had developed a crush on Gilbert in his absence. It was obvious to anybody but you.
Diana gave you a gentle nudge, urging you to go up to him.
As you took off your hat, you made your way to Gilbert's table. He stood up to greet you.
He looked older, and honestly, happier. You were glad for that. His eyes sparkled with the same warmth as when you last saw him, and his smile seemed to be wider now.
This wasn't the Gilbert that had left Avonlea to escape the memory of his father, but rather a more mature, wiser man.
"We still have that truce?" he asked.
You laughed, bowing your head down to cover up the blush that had decided to rage your entire face and neck.
"How was your expedition?" you asked, removing your scarf in an attempt to bring his attention away from your hot cheeks.
He nodded, looking intently at your face, "Amazing."
"Just not the same without Miss Smartass correcting me," he added.
"Well I guess I'll have to make sure you feel right at home today then, won't I?"
He laughed. It was a different laugh than last time, a good different. This one was more joyous, his dimples were more prominent, and his eyes squinted deeply as he tilted his head downwards.
Wow, you really did miss making him laugh.
- - -
When lunch came by you were glad to finally have a break. Ms. Stacey had decided to do math today, and math was never your strong-suit.
A certain brown haired boy was very aware of this as he made his way towards you.
He cleared his throat, halting all the girl's conversations.
"May I borrow Y/N for a second please?"
Diana gave you a knowing look, raising her eyebrows at you.
Standing up, you set your lunch down before ignoring all the girl's goggling eyes as you turned away and followed Gilbert outside.
You wondered what this was about.
"Y/N."
"Gilbert," you said suspiciously.
"I noticed you've been having trouble with math today," he said gently, hoping he didn't sound taunting.
You groaned. This didn't seem like much of a truce to you.
"Trust me it's not what it sounds like," he shifted his weight to his other foot.
He looked nervous, and you had never seen Gilbert look nervous before. He always knew what to say, what to do, and he had an air of confidence around him that seemed contagious.
Seeing him nervous made you nervous.
Not only that, but the girls that had gathered around the window to peek at your interaction had made you scarily aware of all your current movements.
"I was wondering if you wanted me to tutor you. You know, since I'm a little better," he added the last part teasingly.
Rolling your eyes, you sighed. He was right. You did need help in math, but did you want it from him?
He could pose as a huge distraction, and then how would you learn anything?
But you couldn't say no to his hopeful smile as he stood so gentlemanly with his hands behind his back and his dimples on display in the bright sunlight.
"That would be great actually," you replied.
His eyes averted from yours upon your response and he nodded, turning away to go back inside.
What he didn't know, was that you noticed a small blush creep onto his face before he turned his back. With a newfound confidence of knowing that you made Gilbert Blythe blush, you returned to your lunch seat with the girls.
Maybe this truce would be a good thing after all.
