Listen, the spirits obviously can't be good life coaches. I mean, they're already dead.

Hoodoo divination practices
Venturing into the mystical realm of divination, the ancient art of peering into the future, reveals a diverse array of practices deeply ingrained in various cultures. It's high time, particularly for the Black community, to acquaint themselves with the unique divination methods intrinsic to Hoodoo.
First and foremost, it's vital to dispel the common misconception—Tarot is not a native element of Hoodoo. While incorporating Tarot into Hoodoo practices isn't inherently wrong, recognizing its newness to the tradition is crucial. Hoodoo, grounded in resourcefulness, thrives on utilizing what's at hand. Traditional Hoodoo divination paints a vibrant picture, involving practices such as water scrying, star gazing, dreams, visions, psychometry, conversations, and bibliomancy.
These practices aren't confined to rituals; they seamlessly weave into the fabric of everyday life for Black individuals. The prophetic nature of the community fosters an innate knowing that serves as a guiding force—a unique form of divination.
However, the dark era of slavery deprived practitioners of access to various tools later integrated into the Hoodoo system. As the tradition evolved, native tools emerged, including cartomancy, dice, dominoes, bone throwing, and automatic writing. Mastering a divination form native to the Hoodoo lineage is more than a choice; it's a pivotal step towards becoming a proficient practitioner.
Importantly, Hoodoos are advised against heavy reliance on tools. Instead, tools serve as confirmations, with the primary goal being the mastery of clairvoyant abilities as a prophet and psychic. This mastery stems from self-awareness, unwavering focus, and the ongoing journey toward self-mastery.

Idk if u did this already or work with it but do you have any tips for automatic writing? Or any blogs that can help? If not that is okay as well!
i’ve never tried automatic writing because my head is always too full of thoughts but i feel like putting on some relaxing sounds and meditating would help!
just letting the words flow onto the page, stuff like that!
if anyone who has tried automatic writing has any tips, please feel free to drop them in the replies/reblogs!!

“We are more alive in the spirit world than you are on Earth. We can see you, hear you, touch you and feel you”
Auto writing or Automatic writing is also called “psychography” , a claimed psychic ability that allows a person to produce written words without consciously writing. They do this by holding a writing instrument and allowing the spirits to manipulate the practitioners hand. The instrument can be a standard writing instrument or one specially designed for automatic writing.

Silence
Prayers for warmth
My hands are rotten
Maybe shivers in bed
I’m ritual blind
Say something
We’re snow covered
Lost house spirit
You were silver
Windows are frosted
Only heartbeat
Say something

Do you have any tips for someone trying out automatic writing? It seems to be the most available and easier divination method for me to use but I wanted to gain some insight or tips!
first of all i'm so sorry for taking so long to get to this! between mental health and physical health, i just haven't had the ability to write an answer to this. however, i'll try my best to make something easily digestible for you! i'll only talk about tips for automatic writing as channeling, as that's the only form i practice. however, also know that you can just do it for yourself too! you can use it to delve into the thoughts that you don't usually pick up on consciously.
so! here are some tips:
prayer is your best friend. pray to whoever you wish to channel and ask for them to guide your hand to write a message.
try to keep yourself in control at least partially. allow the spirit in question to write with your hand, but something i personally do is wriggle my toes during to keep myself in control of my body.
be prepared to sever the connection at any point. something i like to do is i like to outline in the initial prayer that i would like a message, and then for them to leave my body once the message has been written. however, if you need to force the spirit out - i suggest having someone with you if you can't do it by yourself.
have some form of protection on you, and a second spirit to watch over you during the session. this will help if you need to break contact. i usually ask lucifer or leviathan to keep me company during the session as a layer of spiritual protection.
early on, don't do it for very long. set an alarm for a few minutes if you have to. this shit is absolutely exhausting and sometimes can make you feel very sickly afterwards. slowly increase the minutes as you get used to it, if you want to.
prepare to banish if the spirit does anything unwanted during or after the session.
less about spiritual stuff and more about common sense: use big pages. you don't want to lose focus by accidentally dipping a pen off the side of a teeny tiny page and writing on your table.
equally, make sure your pen has plenty of ink.
don't worry if you can't read or decipher what the message says! this is really normal and most times you won't get a lot of info from what you've written.
thank the spirit after for their time, and make some tea to relax. never skip self care! :-)

sacred feelings on the road:
-conversation with a waitress you'll never see again
-smiles from strangers who know you won't come back to town, but you'll come back to a motel room for a night
-hitting the gas pedal on the on ramp feels like a free fall, nothing more exhilarating
-watching the lights come on the highway
-old dilapidated farmhouses in the fields that look like home and maybe it is, maybe the road can be a home with all its hauntings
-a cigarette leaving a trail of light down the baking asphalt, dropping little stars as gifts to the pavement
-the sweaty hand fumbling for the radio every few hours, driving out of signal range
-the chilling realization that you'll never stop
