I'll be honest there are a LOT of hard-to-watch moments in this show but for some reason that scene where roderick blatantly lies under oath while auggie stares at him, having put his entire career on the line, trusting him, having built a friendship, having been in his home with his kids, having promised his wife to take care of roderick's family..... goddamn. ushers are all monsters, indeed
I just adore the fall of the house of usher going oh? you thought anyone cares about why you did the things you did, you tragic fucking hero? you think having a heartfelt backstory for your sins dissolves them? fuck no. you did that, and here are the consequences. didn't think they'd catch up with you, huh? thought yourself a victim? wrong again. you had every fucking choice to do otherwise, and you still didn't, so fuck you, nobody cares. take your self-pity and fuck yourself with it, you abominable fuck
I love that even as they sit in a room together, conversing, Roderick Usher and Auguste Dupin are living in different genres. Roderick is in a horror story and Auguste is in a crime/legal drama. Since Roderick’s is the true genre of the story, his keeps encroaching on Auguste’s reality until it finally overtakes it as the entire (haunted) house collapses on top of him as Madeline strangles Roderick. It’s such a great storytelling choice, Auguste can’t see the genre they’re in until it becomes impossible to ignore and Roderick can’t escape the genre even as he’s giving his confession.
Some person seeing me deep in thought: Aww, I bet they’re thinking about someone.
What I’m actually thinking about: “I promised my confession. And here it is. I knew. Deep down. In the witching hour. I knew. I knew I would climb to the top of the tower on a pile of corpses. And we told them it was about soothing the world’s pain. That’s the biggest lie we ever told. You can’t eliminate pain. There’s no such thing as a painkiller. And imagine if we’d put that on the bottle. I bet I still could’ve sold it.”
Can someone tell me why the ONLY death I keep remembering with all the details is Tammy's??? (apart from being a masterpiece in filming and cinematography)
Why do I like her in general??? Like??? Wtf??
It's honestly amazing I actually liked any these fucked up people (except Lenore, she's the best of them all)
Also, why did I like the past story way more than the present??? Was it cause I was fooled by Roderick like everyone else?? Why was Auguste literally making me bored in present and interested in the past???
Also, why was I feeling SO MANY incest vibes from him and Madeline?????
