Summary: Jet, Smellerbee, and Longshot make memories at a Green Day concert and contemplate what it means to truly feel alive.

Written as a late submission for @atla-gen-week for day 6: free space

Green Day is not exactly his taste in music, but it’s Jet’s and Smellerbee’s. They eat, sleep, and breathe Green Day. Jet even gave himself a hand grenade tattoo on the underside of one of his biceps. Longshot’s taste is more to the tune of Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend. But Jet got an amazing deal on three tickets and Longshot couldn’t say no—he can never say no to Jet.

So now here they stand, the hot August sun baking on the blacktop they stand on. Longshot is wearing a borrowed band t-shirt with the album cover for Dookie on it. He looks plain compared to Jet and Smellerbee: band tees, ripped black skinny jeans, rubber band bracelets and studded leather straps adorning their arms, thick black eyeliner lining their eyes. Smellerbee is rocking a leather jacket with metal spikes on the shoulders, her chestnut hair teased into a frizzy cloud around her head, her dark bandana still in its usual place.

Jet wears the remnants of a Nimrod t-shirt that he says he got from the boy who introduced him to the band; it’s an original. The sleeves have been taken off, and it’s been cut into a cropped top, showing off his tanned stomach. He wears a long-sleeve cropped fishnet top under it. He’s got that rugged rebel charm, that charisma that drew the quiet Longshot and the wayward Smellerbee towards him in the first place. Longshot is here because of him, because of that energy, as much as he is for anything else.

Longshot has never really known a family, known what it meant to have someone you’d be willing to die for, but now he does. Looking at Jet and Smellerbee with their huge grins and wild eyes, he knows he’d do anything for them.

Unfortunately, that rendered him almost completely useless when it came to talking to her, much less flirting with her.

Yor currently had 7 Stella Stars and 7 Tonitrus Bolts, which was a constant source of stress for Loid. The next award or demerit would decide her fate at Eden: Imperial Scholar or expulsion. The two of them were working very hard to ensure the former and prohibit the latter, hence the daily study sessions in the library. Midterms were coming up, and both Stellas and Tonitruses were on the line.

my fic writing celebration!

Writing is hard, you guys.

So I’ve decided to do a thing for myself.

But if anyone else would also like to be the coolest and celebrate their own writing too, I’ve compiled a list of the rules I’ll be following for this very random but necessary writing celebration below.

I have never done anything like this before, but I’m giving it a shot regardless.

The RULES:

- all fandoms are welcome, not only AtLA - just tag appropriately and we’re good

- you have to be #most pleased with this snippet of your writing

- snippet content rating: try to keep it gen or teen. Nothing explicit please!

- you have to be the sole author of this snippet (like, don’t steal from wattpad guys...)

- it doesn’t have to be published, but let us know at the bottom where it’s coming from (ex: Title of WIP)

- you can have ONE snippet per chapter

- you can share as many snippets as you like, as long as they are each from different chapters!

- if your chapters are monsters greater than 5k, then you can have two. I’m being generous c:

- snippets shouldn’t be more than 400 words! I know- but please, restrain thyself, it’s called a ‘snippet’ for a reason O.o

- write in the tags (optional) why you felt proud of this, and what makes it so special to you <3

Day 5: Childhood/children.

This is a glimpse of our AU "Fire Sage Lu Ten".

Twin! Hello! Thank you for asking questions <3 I answered 6 and 30 in another ask, but I'll copy and paste the answers here for easier reading for you :'D Hope you're doing well!

6. Favorite title you used

The letter W, I found out this evening when reviewing the title of my fic for the year.

I don’t like writing titles, actually; they’re the most difficult part of writing for me, in many ways. And with so few fic to choose from, this was a struggle for me to answer. If I had to choose one of the five fic... We Saw a Spark. Even without knowing the song reference, that line speaks a lot about hope and the sudden striking of new things that could be dangerous, yes, but could also bring light.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

You know, I sat with this a long time trying to figure out if I enjoyed Katara or Zuko more this year. It’s like choosing between my children. xD I think I’m going to say Katara because 1) I’ve done it more and stats speak, right? And 2) the space I was in this year really leant itself to writing Katara with my heart in deeper ways than I ever have before. Especially in We Saw a Spark which was (and will be, when I get back to it, eventually lmao help) a bit of an exploration for me of parts of the need to help others to deal with pain. The good and bad and un-lable-able bits of that response. I never went through Zuko’s coping mechanisms, per se, but Katara’s are a lot more familiar to me, at their core, if not in their actual outworking. And that was something special to do.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?

Here I am to drag myself fully. The actual work of mine I’ve re-read the most is A House Built With Many Stones (ATLA, gen) which was written in 2020. I will fully admit I love the scene of Aang and Zuko and the big reveal so much that I sneak back there to relive it. Also Suki and Zuko friendship. And then I lie there and imagine what I would have done if it were a Zutara piece and —

The piece from this year I’ve re-read the most was probably We Saw a Spark, but that’s because I wrote it all out of order and on my phone in bits and pieces and I needed to quadruple check for errors and the reminder of what on earth I was trying to get at weeks ago in the line to the bank, or whatever. It’s still less to get through than Atlas, which I’ll only re-read to empathise with what I put my poor readers through ;)

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

That I didn’t finish any of the event fic that I swore I would be done by their deadlines? No, honestly, We Saw a Spark somehow gained chapters and is months and months overdue. I’m Pikachu surprised meme that, wow, breaking my self-vow never to post something before it was complete ever again led to me ghosting my own fanfic. I guess I’m just really living up to my username in ways I never, ever expected.

Less cheekily, the biggest surprise is always the feedback. The love in the comments and the tags and the bookmark notes. The recs. The fanart (thank you <3). I hope I never stop not expecting it.

So really, Azula is fine. Winter is just annoying. It comes and it goes, and Azula’s lungs have never suffered any long-term damage, nor has she passed out because she couldn’t breathe. As long as she’s not actively dying, she’s doing alright.
