Makeup and ornaments
Since much of the inspiration that I have for Celes is due to the idea of a notable influence on the part of General Leo, Celes grew up following an aesthetic more dependent on her age until entering the Military Academy which implies that Celes did not use makeup or flashy jewelry beyond hairpins or earrings being a girl.
That does not mean that upon reaching an older age if the situation required it, Celes was forced to add some color to her pale cheeks or paint her lips as in acts of non-military service.
I like to think that the few objects that we see in the illustrations that adorn her hair or other parts of her body have at the time been gifts made by very dear people, hence I keep them and look when I usually do not imagine too presumptuous or flirtatious Celes in this regard.
Leo is in my opinion a discreet individual in the use of jewelry reserving it for events of high relevance. I see Leo being more of the kind of man who prefers to display his medals rather than any ostentatious jewelery though.
Clothing
Both Leo and Celes in my mind offer the other side of the coin. Both dressed in the military uniform as required by the regulations, varying only when rising in rank. Adding elements or changes in sleeves and neck but little else.
The difference would be that Leo always carries the three-quarters, one of many elements that would make up the total uniform in my imagination.
It is during the fights that the soldiers wear some type of armor or pieces of armor to protect themselves, mainly from monsters and wild creatures from the knowledge in distant lands of those creatures outside the city so it would be there that the armor was used since the imperial grounds are state-of-the-art in every way.
although in the case of Celes, because of her special training with Kefka and Terra she would not need armor protected by the great structure that are the Magitek Armors that she was instructed to use or thanks to the magic in her veins.
I know that seeing the sprite of the character, the outfit for Celes has nothing to do with what was intended for Leo but I do not consider it appropriate or credible for a soldier, whatever the era in which we base ourselves. That would be more appropriate for a training use due to the stretchy look of the fabric or want to give me that impression outside of the jokes.
As a female in an area generally designated only for male soldiers, those who are sent to fight on and off the Empire's grounds, Celes is considered fortunate since the rest of the female soldiers are not allowed to wear pants and boots.
As a civilian, Leo's clothes are of fairly sober colors, neutral colors or colors of fabrics that are not excessively bright.
Oddly enough, Celes has worn a dress with all that implies living in Vector with Cid. The colors that I usually associate with her are combinations of blues, greens and yellows.
Hair
I must say that probably because of that military air that Celes gives off I tend to find little inspiration in things commonly female aesthetics, however I am convinced that wearing long and well-groomed hair is very important for the character.
It would be one of those things that enhance her beauty as in any woman (apart from the breasts) because although her features are less childish than Terra's and her body is slightly more marked by more physically intense workouts, she has always had the potential to having wanted to use it like any other young lady in Vector.
And her greatest pride every time she is praised by people of such importance as Leo or knowledgeable about the privilege it denotes. Few, very few soldiers would have a length below the ears and those lucky ones would be in high ranks of command.
The thing with Leo’s hair puzzles me because although some military haircuts are similar, it continues to give me the impression that it follows a more mohawk or punk aesthetic that would go out of fashion within the time that I am inspired...
If I follow the idea that it would be something of a tribal style (Strago has a similar haircut) the explanation would be that it is something cultural done at a certain age to represent the change from child to adult. Something a bit foreign, oops.
It would only last until reaching higher ranks... Then it would not be so exaggerated, a mere shaving or gradual cut as one descends as in World War II n_nU
