I love how after all that drama about Annette and the redesign the best they could come up with ( at least so far) is an extremely bland and cookie cutter action girl with metalbending and whose backstory is just racism.exe and that's it that's the character
I've never cared about Annette in the games, she wasn't a character just a damsel to be rescued so I wasn't as supposed to them changing her like the others precisely because the bar was already low, but at least in the games they've always been honest about Annette being uninmportant, in the show she'll be front and center 24/7 meaning that if they don't improve her writing pronto she's gonna be a constant drag
And the sad part? She's technically one of the better female characters in the show!
Not on Sypha or Lisa's level by a mile but she sure beats Carmilla,Lenore, the Lesbian duo (ehh maybe not Striga though) and more recently Maria
That ain't a compliment though, that's just how low the bar has been set
You know what? Now I'm even more convinced that they should have kept Annette as a normal girl without powers and fighting skills, because so far she's a blander, safer version of Maria.
What makes her stand out? The infodump about her gods? The fact that she accidentally caused the death of Edouard by attracting Vaublanc's attention?
(sidenote, I don't know how to feel about turning an actual, non-mythized historical figure into a vampire)
At least Maria made me feel annoyance with how they made her into a jerkass who can't shut up about the Revolución, and more seriously we got to see her relationship with Tera (normal) and with Richter (bleh). Annette did nothing. She cried about her friend/bf I wasn't made to care about, she showed off her metalbending powers, she dumped on us a cliché slave backstory and yelled at us to caaaaaare about a character I've barely known for one episode, and she already foreshadowed that she's going to become Ricther's gf because what is natural chemistry.
Which sure, it's still 3 episodes in, but again, they had the time to show Richter and Maria's personalities, hell Richter was better than I thought. So far it feels like they want to keep her safe and likeable, and show off that they did the research about her religion.

The fabled Grey Wardens! Formidable warriors, brilliant tacticians, masters of the art of battle and death with unflinching skill and nerve! Surely there is no one better to ensure he meets the end he's looking for. And to top it off, this particular one isn't hard to look at either - bonus points.

god the scene in season one where jonathan comes home to joyce and lonnie on the couch drinking together is harrowing. it makes me want to cry just thinking about it, your brother is dead, your mom is horrible mental state and is now also introducing your abusive father back into your house. what a fucking nightmare.

I think this is about Penelope and him.
Obviously, their marriage bed is made from an Olive tree. If it's just about Athena then why are there two mentioned? Why did Homer mention two when he could've just said he took refuge under one? Or a completely different type of tree? Why mention them being intertwined?
One an olive: Penelope, who has been with society and "safe" in Ithaca ("Safe" because of the suitors)
One wild: Odysseus, who has dealt with literal monsters and immortals and has just escaped from Calypso. Literally naked and filthy, a "wild man".
"which grew from the same stem with their branches": Them both being together at first, before being separated.
"so closely intertwined that when the winds blew moist not a breath could get inside, nor could the rain soak right through to the earth.": Despite being separated, they are still "intertwined". Whether you want to think of it as them being likeminded or simply connected, even though they are apart, nothing could get in between them. ��
I don't know what else Homer could be referring to other than them.

honestly, it feels a bit of a disservice to me how people immediately label kotoko as someone who doesn't care for the people she saves when there's clearly a much more interesting relationship at hand here!
we know how kotoko gets when she doesn't care: she's stone-faced, she's self-assured, she's above it all ...but when a scared little girl hugs her? she doesn't roll her eyes or click her tongue; instead, she freezes, sweats profusely, and yanks the child off her. she just murdered someone seconds ago but it's the child she's antsy with?
Kotoko: "Treat you like a child? Hah, you’ve got to be kidding. Back when I was your age, I was already the person I am today. I don’t have any plans to let you get away with something just “because you’re a child.” ...Remember that."
i don't want to say anything concrete just yet but—especially when you take a look at mikoto—there's a very obvious fear at play with kotoko's relationship in protecting someone weaker than her. just like there's newborn imagery baked into john doe's character, kotoko is the little red riding hood, the child, who's been swallowed by a wolf.
