I feel like some of y’all need to hear this so... Raine will be fine. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath real quick and count down from 10.
Feel a little better?
Not really? That’s okay, here’s an in depth analysis of why Raine will be fine in the final.
Let's start by addressing the elephant in the room: what happened to Hunter when Phillip was possessing him.
Now, there are some key differences between Hunter's possession and Raine’s possession that automatically lead to Raine being in a better situation.
To start, Raine and Hunter are two completely different species, meaning that possession would likely affect them differently. And even if this wasn’t a point, Raine is presently a puppet and based on what we saw wasn’t actively goopifying.
Which ties into the next point: even if Raine were to turn back organic, it took several hours of possession (probably between 8-12) for Hunter to get to the point his organs were shutting down.
Additionally, unlike with Hunter, the protagonists are going to be on the lookout for Phillip, plus since it seems like he's targeting Eda (and if I were to wager a guess, the rest of the Clawthornes) and with her change in physical appearance making her look a lot like Evelynn, he's unlikely to be able to hide what’s happening for long... meaning a rescue effort will happen much sooner with a potentially much stronger group of fighters than the end of TTT.
Furthermore, Raine is older and significantly more powerful than Hunter is in terms of magic. As a coven head, the chances Raine at least has training to resist this type of thing if not actively having protections in place.
Finally (for this section at least), unlike Hunter, Raine has Eda. More specifically, Raine has a decades-long relationship to fall back on in terms of “fighting power.” Like, Hunter was able to pull through and regain some amount of control via the power of friendship and he’d only been in the Hexsquad for like... a year max and that’s being very generous.
Now that we’re got the in-universe reasons why Raine will be fine, let’s talk about the story reasons.
Narratively, in addition to being Eda’s love interest, they also serve as a metaphor for Eda’s lost magic... or more specifically, the safety that having her magic afforded her.
What I mean by this is that prior to the end of Season 1, Eda was protected from Belos because she was considerably more powerful than most other witches... based on what we’ve seen it’s entirely possible that her claim about being the most powerful witch on the isles was true...
But during Season 2, whenever Eda’s been is genuine danger due to Belos/The Emperor's Coven, Raine was the one to step in and make sure that her and her kids were safe. (Specifically, during Eda’s Requiem, O Titan Where Art Thou, and King’s Tide).
There are one of two ways to takes things narratively during the final based on this. Either the trend continues and Raine once again puts themself between Eda and Belos to keep her safe, or the trend is turned on it’s head and this time it’s up to Eda to save Raine from Belos.
More than likely though it’ll be a joint effort between the two of them. This would be in order to narratively place them back on even footing, showing they can protect each other and in turn make each other stronger.
Furthermore, Raine hasn’t really had any genuine death signs. Unlike the fake-out with Eda at the end of Season 2, nothing that’s happened to Raine has indicated they’re going to die. Yeah, they aren’t in a great place right now, but their character hasn’t been given any closure.
Additionally, there’s not enough time left in the show for their death to have an impact. And The Owl House has handled discussions about death and grief way too well up til now to just kill Raine off when there wouldn’t even be time for the characters to grieve or react properly.
Finally, let’s talk meta reasons Raine will be fine.
We’ll start with the fact that Raeda is Dana’s OTP for The Owl House and the likelihood of her killing one of them off is slim to none. And I can tell you as a writer, you absolutely put your favorite characters/relationships through the wringer because it makes the end of story where they’re okay that much sweeter.
More importantly, Raine is Disney’s first even non-binary character. Having Raine die randomly in the final would make for some genuinely terrible publicity for a company that’s been in hit water recently for their handling of other LGBTQ+ related things, so killing off Raine would be a horrible move.
Plus this is a Disney show and we’ve already had one beloved character die and explored the themes of death and grief fairly extensively (at least, again, for a Disney show...)
All this is to say that Raine will be fine and you can breathe while we wait for the final.

i hate seeing people erase canon bi/pan identifies
like i dont like diisney but some of the shows are ok, but i saw someone headcanon hunter (a canon bi character) as gay and willow (a canon pan character) as lesbian and when someone called them out on it they said that hunter being bi and willow being pan isn’t canon and is just a headcanon made by dana, did people forget that she made the show? people will always make up excuses to hate bi/pan people and be bi/panphobic, plus aren’t hunter and willow in a canon relationship? aren’t they dating in canon?
The headwriter of Owl House implied they were a couple. Zeno, Hunter's VA, would always jokingly say they have an ADVANCE FRIENDSHIP. Though I think the VA said this to play it safe for people who don't ship Hunter with Willow. I say they are a couple with how close they are by the epilogue. Extra info or material that is from outside sources like Twitter, does not count as actual canon within the show. If you couldn't show it, it is not part of it. Sure you can blame Disney for its limitations, but with how open they are to say FUCK THE MOUSE on Twitter, they could at least either take the loss for what it is or just not work with them in the first place. People say they hate how forced or rushed Hunter and Willow's relationship were. Some say they hate how Willow's character development was very little or only on the emotional side. Some say they hate how Hunter was mostly Willow's boy toy and he doesn't interact with other characters after season 2 besides Luz and Flapjack for plot. But since they can't blame Dana, their beloved creator that made their show, and they can't blame Disney that shortened its airtime because big corp that they will always follow and defend again for more rep, they got to blame something else. And it's the implication of them being a straight couple in a show that's been praised for LGBT themes and acceptance on a kids show. Because having a straight couple apparently RUINS the theme. It's not like Hunter and Willow even take up the spotlight that much when it's still about Luz's journey. But in modern age, if an LGBT person or group finds out a bi or pansexual got together with someone of their opposite sex, they are seen as traitors in their eyes and says they aren't part of LGBT. Not even as allies either. No straight love is allowed. So much for their motto of 'All love is love' when some love is better than others.

Spoilers for the owl house episode labyrinth runners.
I think it makes a lot of sense why Belos would act worried about Hunter and have the scouts bring him back safely. There would be too many questions and suspicions among the coven if he didn't.
The coven (at least most of them,) know that Hunter is Belos's nephew. It would be strange if he didn't act worried. It also explains why he didn't tell them to kill Hunter on sight.
While there are definitely some evil people in the emperor's coven, not everyone is like that, Steve, the coven scout, "To sleep dude, to sleep!" Even the two scouts that caught Gus and Hunter the first time, sounded worried about Hunter, when they realized who he was. None of them (and I'm sure many others) are going to be okay with killing a teenager, even if Belos did tell them he was a traitor.
Doing that and telling everyone the golden guard is a traitor, would definitely make things worse for Belos. Having your only family killed (a child no less) would look bad for obvious reasons. And he can't tell them the golden guard betrayed them, it's going to raise too many questions of why he would do that with the day of unity a few days away.
I do think Belos is going to get a hold of Hunter before the day of unity. Although I don't think Belos will kill him the minute he has him, the scouts were told to bring Hunter back safely. It would raise a lot of suspicion on Belos if Hunter died after they brought him home. If anything Belos might lock him in a room somewhere until after the day of unity and deal with him then. There's also the fact that Luz and Eda didn't kill the silkidomus in the season 2 premiere, and Adrian was asking Gus about the gladorstones, for all we know, Belos might realize he doesn't have all the ingredients for a grimwalker and wants to keep Hunter alive until he does.
With Luz's message to Amity "Don't scare him away." Makes me think that she Eda and maybe Raine and the others found Hunter and know he's at Hexside. It would explain why they never mentioned Hunter at all in "Edge of the world."
Although with Hunter telling Bump everything, he and at least Eda are going to have to find Hunter another place to stay. Adrian and the scouts are going to tell Belos Hunter was part of the reason their plan failed. And Belos isn't going to stop sending scouts after Hunter, until he gets him back.

Welcome to your official introduction into the AU/Rewrite of DP known as “Gravewalking.”
This au will be tagged with #gravewalking au
(fun fact I didn’t know that was an actual word until like 2 minutes ago I made it up like 3 months ago as a play on Grimwalkers from TOH)
A little summary of what you’re getting into, at least with season 1 winky face (this is the summary i wrote for when i eventually post this on ao3 or smth): After an accident that leaves Danny with ghostly abilities (because no, there’s no way he’s dead), said creatures seem to be coming out of the woodwork, sometimes quite literally. The 15 year old High School Freshman takes it upon himself to keep the town safe since his accident is the reason they’re getting through. Oh, and he keeps breaking the lights. That’s probably not important.
OR; A rewrite of Danny Phantom as a fruity No One Knows AU and I’m changing his powers to electricity based. Homie was electrocuted it makes more sense imo
Basic info you might want:
The AU itself: This is a no one knows au!!!! Sam and Tucker do not know. While they heard about the accident, in classic nok aus fashion, Danny is refusing to give them details and is pushing them away. In a classic Finch fashion, I made the death of a ghost correspond to their abilities. As such, Danny has electricity-based powers.
Genre: Superhero, obv, thats what DP is, a little comedy, but mostly HORROR ELEMENTS!!! I love horror. Psychological? Probably. Body? Definitely.
The ghosts: While some ghosts will not make an appearance (most likely at least. Look man i'm still working on it), your favs are going to be completely revamped! Every ghost that will show up I hope to flesh out well :) except maybe one-time villains/cameos. I have created a whole system of ghost typing ranging from Will-o-the-wisps and Shades to Liminals (who are often called, ahem, Gravewalkers) and Lords/Ancients. Each ghost typing has their own abilities and whatnot (think like the ghosts in Phasmophobia). And since some of my typings would BUTCHER a few characters including Danny, ghost types can overlap :D For example, in this au Danny is a liminal banshee, and by the end of the series he’ll be a liminal banshee and [REDACTED]! This mostly applies to higher level ghosts since those are more titular than anything, but it will also apply to a few of the main cast of full ghosts.
The characters: The characters you know and love are back, but a few with a bit more substance. Team Phantom is overall pretty similar, just adjusted to fit headcanons I’ve inserted into the au. Vlad is not an incel anymore and now is taking Daddy Issues to the extreme! This definitely won’t have any negative consequences for Phantom. Oh, hes also like, 5x more manipulative. Danielle is back and BETTER. While I quite liked her in canon, now she makes more sense. Instead of going by “Dani,” she decided to be less confusing and pick a cooler name (her words) and goes by “Elle!” Pronounced like the letter L shes built different (its not because I keep reading “Ellie” wrong or anything). She is also physically the same age as Danny. She also has a dual ghost type, but you can wait for that I’ll do like a proper character intro or smth.
Season 1 (the only season i’m giving you a peak of rn): Season 1 is mostly a learning period for Danny. Unlike canon where the origin story is left to the intro until a retcon in season 2, the Accident is told through flashbacks, Daredevil style. Overall, this season will be the slowest, as it’s more for building the world, establishing characters and motives, and other stuff to make the next seasons flow as well as possible. Think like the Owl House where season 1 has more filler that progressively gets fewer and further between as it continues. This season ends with what very well might be a rewrite of one of everyone’s favourite episodes from canon. You can speculate what one that is.
Hope this sounds interesting. None of it is set in stone atm and if you have any questions about it feel free to ask!!!

Just read a Hazbin/Helluva x Owl House fanfic you made and IT WAS AWSOME!!! Honestly I like seeing Amity, Edric, and Emira adopted by M&M, who we know are better parents than Odalia even though Alador is trying to be better, but it's still an amazing idea. Is there still some fanfic ideas based around it, if so could you share some details about the AU?
Ah those fics, it's been a while since I thought of them but I'm glad some people still stumble across them and enjoy them so much. I must admit though that the original asker for those fics @beastkeeper91 gave me that idea even though I took my own spin and wrote em, as well as a few others, but yes I suppose there are a few other ideas I didn't explore in either, some theirs, some my own and I'm happy to share a few.
But first since you just said fic, I'm gonna be safe and assume you only read one, and put both here, please read both before you go further cause I'm going to assume you've read both as I discuss the new stuff
(Note those are their reblogs of the fics, cause they were kind enough to send them to me so I could find them easier since this was a while ago, now the new stuff!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all, since the Owl House has since wrapped up I guess I'll speak on M&Ms status during season 3, most likely they'd end up collected like everyone else, sad but that means Amity gets three parents to lovingly greet after everything is done, and Odalia isn't just the third wheel now, she's the fifth wheel! Cause she deserves it :3
Also Stolas and Blitz would probably be right with them, a little bitter but the whole crew gets the collector is a child and all, and if Amity thinks there okay, they'll listen to their daughter/niece. Speaking of daughters I still don't know what to do Octavia and Loona, sorry ladies XP
And since this is a somewhat M&M centric AU, I certainly can't just not mention the episode that most focuses on them and their relationship, Yep Exes and Oohs.
Tumblr media
Crimson exists in this AU, but luckily Moxxie has of course cut ties with him, he still sucks essentially, and I don't hate Moxxie enough to have him dragged back. Not sure what he runs in this AU, cause I don't think the boiling isles has a straight up mob, but it's something Moxxie wants no part of. He's aware of his 'grandchildren' and I'm only air quoting that cause this man hardly deserves children, let alone grandchildren, he's never met them though, he is a little impressed with Amity after the brawl so he's intriqued.
Now that I think of it imagine the tension if while he's taking over running the company, Alador get's involved with Crimson, unaware of his shady dealings, and Moxxie just wants to explode right there when seeing him again. Oh lord the drama... And the possible bonding with his kids when they find out that just like them he had a bad parent like they did in Odalia
On a lighter note, how about we talk about some funny scenarios with the funny shark man?
Tumblr media
Chaz in this AU, is on much better terms with his exes, and kinda acts like an unwanted uncle to the blight kids, often joking he might just get back together with M&M to become their dad. Ed and Em find him amusing, and kinda get their sense of humor from him at times, and Amity can't stand him one bit, though she is nicer in this AU to start so she's at least cordial with him, agree with who you like.
Moxxie and Millie however, kinda keep him on a short leash when around their kids, none of his usual horn dog behavior as you'd expect, and Moxxie says he'll just steal Chaz's voice if he ever does it in front of em. Which is usual successful, so the kids just see him as the weird uncle, who just acts very awkward round their parents.
Speaking of magic, Chaz is a bard, just like Moxxie in this AU, though Chaz uses his voice for his magic, while Moxxie and say Raine use instruments, his magic looks like green and teal sound waves. Not sure what or if he'd branch off into other stuff after the sigils removed, maybe illusions for like stage effects but that's just me XP Still figuring stuff out for him.
Tumblr media
Now this is an idea completely given to me by good ol beastkeeper. Now in this AU I.M.P doesn't exist as we know it, which I felt was for the best not only cause portals are a much more serious thing in TOH, but also not exactly a great career to have when your daughter ends up with a human girlfriend. XP
My original idea was that they kinda had a club during their hexside days and that's kinda how they got so close, but after graduating they all kinda ended up doing different things while staying in touch, Moxxie became a Bard, Mille an Abomination expert, and Blitz a beastkeeper, but then Beastkeeper proposed I used an idea there using in their own Helluvaverse/TOH AU, check it out, it's a little dark but still neat I think.
Anyway they proposed a new company, I.A.S. Imp Appreciation Soceity, essentially activists for equal treatment, now in my AU Imps are just a type of biped demon, same with Goetias, Shark Demons etc. But I reason that Belos, in his puritan head, ended up getting Imps considered lesser and more "wild" then other types, mainly cause they resemble classic ideas of demons the most, cause Belos is an asshole, no surprise there.
Anyway that means they still technichally work together. That's about as much as I've explored it in my head. Either way I find it cool.
Tumblr media
The last thing I wanna mention is a few miscellaneous ideas I have thought up but don't feel have enough layed out to say much about, I want a little plot of Blitz and Luz working together and bonding, protagonist solidarity and all. Also of course figure out what Loona and Octavia are like in this.
Also figuring out a ton of hexside time stuff, how they all met, how they interacted, how the parents possibly did. tons of stuff, but I hope for now this is a good bit of information for this AU, maybe ask later and I'll say even more who knows XP

Sorry if it was asked before, but in the runaway legacies au how would the plot of latter season 2 and season 3 develop?
Hmmmmm so, Hunter's been running missions for Belos in exchange for Darius' safety and possibly some information on his family, he eventually says "Nope, I'm out," and Belos tries to kill him. He's badly injured, and Darius leaves him at the owl house to heal, while Darius himself is getting the heat turned up on him and is dodging the coven. That's stuff I've already said.
Sometime while Darius is running, he meets up with Eber and Raine and joins their little rebellion
It's not a secret among coven heads what happened with the golden guard, so the revelation that the golden guard is that kid Darius kidnapped has Raine and Eber going "oh, okay, yeah, fair, kidnapping is the correct option, actually
Darius, like Eda in later episodes, is DESPERATE to keep Hunter out of the line of fire and not let him know about this whole rebellion thing
Hollow Mind happens because Hunter (mostly recovered by now) was trying to find Darus, Luz on his heels. The rebellion made a break for it to keep the two of them out of it/try to hide their identities from the kids, but the potion was left behind, and Luz and Hunter still end up in Belos' mind
Hunter finally gets those answers on his family, at least!
Belos tries to kill him AGAIN, but the two of them get out
Hunter doesn't go charging off into the woods this time, he stays at the owl house, and Darius comes back under the guise of "checking in" before he has to go again (he's actually relatively safe at the CATs hideout, but, again, he wants to keep Hunter out of it, so he's keeping up appearances that he's got to keep moving)
Hunter insists that he's healed enough, now, and he can go with Darius and he needs Darius, because holy cow, Darius, he has so much he needs to talk about, but Darius still leaves, a lot out of guilt and "I'm just endangering him." Hunter follows
Trying to tail Darius is fruitless and there's a lot of scouts around, so Hunter decides to bunker down in Hexside for the night, kicking off Labyrinth Runners, which essentially goes the same, Luz and King still go off to the Titan Trappers, etc.
After finding out what happened at Hexside, Darius IMMEDIATELY goes to get Hunter and finally tells him about all the secret rebellion stuff. Hunter tells him about the Grimwalker stuff, and Darius tells him to keep it under wraps because he's not sure how the rest of the rebellion will feel, similar to how Eda and co were hiding that King was a titan
Still sends Hunter off with Luz for Clouds on the Horizon, that all sort of goes the same, except that Alador is a coven head, so he decides to just... not show up for the Day of Unity
Darius was disguised as a scout nearby to keep an eye on the corruption bit of the plan, but he gets caught and forced to take Alador's place
Hunter still goes through the portal
Thanks to Them mostly goes the same, but with more "I miss Darius :( " angst

⚠️Warning there is spoilers for The Owl House finale (since it’s literally about what happened to Ladybug and Chat Noir in this AU) if you have not watched it read this at your own risk ⚠️
Surprise! I made a sequel to Unexpected (perks of being a superhero). I was thinking about what would happen in season 3 in this AU. And yes this will be the last piece of this series. I hope you guys liked it :)
Unwanted (cons of being a superhero)
Ladybug would say her list is going along pretty well. Two out of the three tasks have been completed. But when the day of unity arrives it makes the last task a little more complicated. Now Ladybug has a new list.
1. Save Chat Noir
2. Help Eda and King defeat the Collector
3. Get home ( and it would be a miracle if Paris wasn’t destroyed by now.)
At least Luz is safe in the human realm. Right?
Art I did for this is under the cut (because it has spoilers)

Alright I’m doing my short review/liveblog of “The Owl House Season 2 episode 15″
- Luz is getting really good at Glyph magic, and the last one kind of looked like abomination magic.
- Luz continues to love backstory. We have that in common.
- It seems like both Eda and Lilith are nerds. I didn’t realize that was the case with Eda. Though maybe with the rest of the scene she’s naturally good, but is helping Lilith with the study cards?
- It seems like Odalia Darius and Alador might have all been friends, with Darius and Alador having a friendly rivalry.
- It’s weird that Bump isn’t principal. Based on the photo of the founding of the school it seemed like he was always the leader.
- Lilith and Eda were even closer than I thought.
- I wonder how long the scroll-phones have been around? It seems like they haven't changed at all since Eda’s childhood.
- Seeing a lot of familiar faces. It seems like the population of the Boiling Isles is pretty small. The Titan must be like the size of the Isle of Man or something like that.
- The plant coven head has been the same for a long time huh.
- Bard magic seems pretty op. Don’t need to draw a circle, or any ingredients, don’t even need to use multiple notes apparently. Bards are the best in everything.
- A lot of people use the kitty mouth in the Boiling Isles.
- Raine and Eda were instant friends it seems, they’re personalities perfectly meshed.
- Yeah the plant coven head is hot.
- Yeah I called that Terra would be happy about Eda and Raine going against the challenge she set.
- Well Bump was right about her selling garbage on the night market.
- I think I see Bochas mom as well, it seems like there's only one family per species. Except for the witchlings of course.
- Does Eda like apple blood because of Raine? Because if so, that is the cutest thing ever.
- I love how creepy Luz’s faces still are.
- Ok so Darius and Raine are working from the inside to stop Belos, and Raine didn’t actually lose their memory he’s just trying to keep Eda safe. A stupid trope, but at least it’s a nice sentiment.
I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. Young Terra was hot, and young Raine and Eda were super cute. I’m excited that Raine’s still fighting against Belos, and it appears like Darius is working with them. I guess I want to know when Darius joined them, was the whole chase were Raine got captured a sham? Or did Raine convert him during his capture? If that’s the case; wow Raine is one charismatic Bastard.
Well I enjoyed that quite a lot. I might do a full liveblog for the next episode. Though don’t worry, I’ll keep going through Infinity Train. See y’all next time. I love ya, goodbye!

Zaphod and the ghost of his grandfather
Tumblr media
Recently, I was reading my handy The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide, which brings together five novels and one story [1] by Douglas Adams. While going through the second book, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, I came across a scene where Zaphod Beeblebrox, the figurehead president of the galaxy, talks to one of his ancestors! The fandom page for the book mentions this in one line, saying "Luckily, an ancestor of Zaphod's, Zaphod Beeblebrox IV, saves them." There's a lot more going on than that one line in this story, which I'll explain in this post. I wish this scene had been in the movie, but alas, it is still great to have in the book.
Reprinted from my Genealogy in Popular Culture WordPress blog. Originally published on September 14, 2020.
As the Vogan fleet approaches the Heart of Gold, Zaphod makes a gamble and talks to his deceased relative, his great-grandfather. [2] He thinks that his ancestor can help him, and he begins trying to summon him, concentrating, even as his fellow crew members doubt this will work. It is finally successful, but his ancestor is pissed at him for not sending flowers and respecting him, saying he is disappointed in him. He pleads for his great granddad to help him, even as he is reprimanded for not caring about his ancestors and more about himself. He  drops all pleasantries and decides to confront his ghost-of-an-ancestor, who even slows downtime for him. He agrees to help them because he doesn't want him and his "modern friends" slouching around. However, he states that if he ever needs help again, he should not "hesitate to get lost." The ship speeds away through space, and, as shown at the beginning of the next chapter, the Vogans believe they have destroyed the Heart of Gold.
Reading this, there wasn't as much of a family history focus as I would have thought. I would like to mention the occasional family history themes in a Mexican-American animated series named Victor & Valentino and in Cleopatra in Space, specifically in the character of Medjed, whose ancestors were moved from Ancient Egypt to a faraway star. [3] I am excited for the next season of Carmen Sandiego, which will undoubtedly focus, at least in part, on Carmen trying to find her mom, engaging in a family history journey of sorts, building on what has happened in previous seasons. There are also some family history themes in R.O.D. the TV, although no one investigates the family roots of any of the characters. Otherwise, I have draft posts about The Godfather: Part II, Outlander, and characters in the comic book realm, which I'll try to write up sometime this year. As always, I look forward to your comments and suggestions about my next topics to write about.

Notes
[1] The five novels are The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; The Restaurant at the End of Universe; Life, the Universe and Everything; So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish; and Mostly Harmless. The one-story is Young Zaphod Plays It Safe.
[2] See chapter 3, or pages 159-166 of The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide.
[3] There are also, as I've noted on this blog, family trees/diagrams in Futurama, Amphibia, The Simpsons, and Infinity Train, Gore Vidal lampooning genealogy, roots work in Little Fockers, and family history themes in Steven Universe and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In a recent post, I noted the focus on families in The Owl House, 3Below, Mysticons, Twelve Forever, and Human Kind Of, with startling family discoveries in Roswell Conspiracies: Aliens, Myths and Legends, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Sherwood, Adventure Time, OK K.O.: Let's Be Heroes!, Final Space, and Mr. Robot, and Cleopatra "Cleo" in Cleopatra in Space and "Jack" in Samurai Jack missing their families as they have both been flung far into the future. I also pointed to those who noted family trees in shows like Bewitched, Donald Duck, Lord of the Rings, and several other awful shows/franchises.

Spoilers for The Owl House up to season 2 ep 20 Clouds on the horizon! Also very much a rant about my theory that has minimal evidence to back it up—
Ok but I cannot be the only one who thinks raine is still acting off. They just seem so.. flat. Like hi. I’m here now. That’s cool. Maybe I’m just imagining things but they just don’t seem like themself. It’s like they know something that everyone else doesn’t. Kikimora did say “the emperor has eyes everywhere”, maybe raine is unintentionally getting the info back to belos because of what happened with that whole corrupted thing. But they also know about it? Or at least suspect it cause they’re acting sorta weird, like they’re trying just a bit too hard to pretend like everything’s ok. That could also be because they’re not ok with eda being this involved in the plan.
Belos definitely knows about everything that’s going on because he knows about the plan, but he hasn’t done anything obvious to stop it. He could be prepared for anything the CATTs might be able to do, but it would benefit him more to just get rid of them unless he’s plotting something more. I think them trying to corrupt the spell using eda is something belos has accounted for, meaning their plan to corrupt the draining spell won’t work as intended. Raine is trying to set something up where belos and everyone will think it’ll go down one way but they’re going to do something reckless and unexpected to throw belos off and keep eda out of danger.
I also remember back when we first found out raine wasn’t being brainwashed. They said they wouldn’t involve Eda and they wanted to keep her safe no matter what, but their current plan involves her getting a sigil, there’s no way she’d be ok with that normally and she’s in a lot of danger. She literally said “we’ll get to go on an adventure one last time” but I’m paraphrasing cause I’m dumb and I can’t remember exactly what she said. She might not even think she’s going to come out of this alive, that thought has to scare them more than anything. Combined with raine’s behavior, I don’t think raine is going to go along with this plan.
At the end of ep 20 Luz was being taken to the emperor, she’s also another thing belos might not have accounted for. That will also throw belos off, but if two people are trying to do something all on their own there’s no way this is going to go smoothly. Their two plans could clash and someone’s going to get hurt or killed. Crying internally at the thought of edas face if she lost her kid and raine in the same day. Also the collector possessing luz theory is scaring me.
I am definitely not as observant or knowledgeable about the show as so many other people who make theories so I’d like to know what other people think of this. Please prove me wrong. I need something to go right for once-

For 001: The Owl House
For 002: Rayllum
For 003: Claudia
(Feel free to do however many you want! You don't have to do them all!)
See, I know I didn't have to do them all but I wanted to so...
001
Favorite character: Luz!
Least Favorite Character: Close tie between Odalia and Belos
5 Favorite Ships: Lumity, Raeda, and Vinira. I'm not really interested in any other ships, at least in terms of seeking out content for them.
Character I Find Most Attractive: Eda
Character I Would Marry: Probably Eda? Although I would feel bad because of how much I ship raeda lol
Character I Would Be Best Friends With: Either Luz or Gus! Or probably both. They're both similar to how I acted around their age so I feel like I would connect with them pretty well
A Random Thought: I wish we had more of the show for a multitude of reasons, but one minor reason I wish Disney hadn't canceled it is that we see so little of Camila because of it
Unpopular Opinion: I kind of (read: a lot) hate the beta designs? LIke, I would have loved to see an edgier show, but the beta designs just don't do it for me.
My Canon OTP: Lumity
My Non-Canon OTP: Vinira
Most Badass Character: Oooh either Willow or Eda
Most Epic Villain: The Collector
Pairing I Am Not a Fan Of: Huntlow, but I respect if you ship it. It's none of my business
Characters I feel The Writers Screwed Up: Hoo boy. Willow, Gus, Vee (not really because I blame the writers, just because I feel like we barely get to see her after Yesterday's Lie and I know full well that's because of Disney), Bat Queen (similar situation with Vee, except we got a lot of set-up and now barely any time for satisfying pay-off)
Favorite Friendship: Gus and Hunter! They are so precious, best brOTP of the show imho
Character I Most Identify With: Listen, there's a reason Luz is my favorite character
Character I Wish I Could Be: Lilith
002
When I Started Shipping Them: After season 3! I was indifferent toward the ship up until that point but they were very cute in the third season that I couldn't help but hop on the rayllum train
My Thoughts: PAIN. Just. Pain. I genuinely worry for the people who haven't read Through The Moon and are just jumping into season 4 with no context because holy fuck I am not ready to see Callum be a heartbroken mess even with context so I cannot imagine. Other than that though? I'm so soft for them. That and the fact that they may be a heterosexual couple, but that sure as hell doesn't mean they're straight.
What Makes Me Happy About Them: The growth! And the fact that, before being boyfriend and girlfriend, they are best friends. They respect each other so much and that just. Agh. I love them
What Makes Me Sad About Them: The raeda vibes sldkfjslkdf. Ok to clarify, it's the fact that, much like Raine and Eda, they are willing to go to great lengths to keep each other safe. Unfortunately for the both of them, that means making some of the most heartwrenching decisions, with Callum launching himself off the storm spire to save Rayla, and Rayla leaving in the middle of the night to keep Callum safe from Viren.
Things Done In Fanfic That Annoys Me: Admittedly, I haven't read much fanfic for the fandom since season three, so I can't nitpick much here lol
Things I Look For In Fanfic: Mostly just fluff because lord knows there's enough angst with these two already
My Wishlist: I'm assuming this is for what I want in to happen in canon so 1) them having a relatively happy reunion with minimal angst (asking for a lot, I know sdkfdskfj) and 2) a little look into how they work through the years apart and where the relationship goes from there
Who I'd Be Comfortable Them Ending Up With (If Not Each Other): Hmmm, Rayla and Claudia wouldn't be too bad. As for Callum, idk? I feel like, if they broke up, I'd want Callum to learn that it isn't the end of the world and that he can find love with someone else if he wants it or, as my aromantic ass would really want, him to learn that he can be fine on his own, nor romance required.
My Happily Ever After For Them: Them having a moment away for war and diplomacy, either living in Katolis or Xadia, just being able to live. Not really settle down, but rest.
003
How I Feel About This Character: Please someone get her therapy her abandonment issues make me cry harder than how I feel about any other character. She has been manipulated to hell and back by Viren, forced to take more responsibility than she could from her mother, and feels betrayed by her brother. Someone give her a hug and please let it be me so I can tell her it's all ok.
Any People I Ship With This Character: Rayla, kind of. I didn't say this is the rayllum stuff because I wanted to focus on Callum and Rayla, but it would take a lot of growth from Claudia's end before I shipped them in canon. I love raydia au's tho so if you have any good recs for those I would love to see them!
One Thing I Wish Would Happen With This Character: Redemption, or at the very least, her going against Viren in some way. She's been through enough please god I want this to happen.
Favorite Friendship For This Character: Her relationship with Soren pre-season 3. As much as I kept yelling at the screen "no! no! don't listen to your father like that!" I also found their dynamic really endearing.
My crossover ship: Don't really have one

O Titan, Where Art Thou Reaction
I got sick last week, so I lost the will to write a reaction. So here's my belated sixth Owl House reaction!
Before the episode
The blurb makes me think that the scouts surrounding the Owl House situation will probably resolve itself quickly. My guess is that Eda and Lilith will escape somewhere else, where Luz, King, and Hooty will find them. The promo makes me think that King's wanting to learn more about his heritage will be important somehow, with Luz and Eda trying to stop the Day of Unity happening in the background. Maybe Eda will finally reconnect with Raine? And it could have been a joke, but I might have been spoiled on a Steve face reveal? I need to remember not to use Reddit before watching new episodes…
The episode
We open up with King, who's looking a little see-thru. You ok there, bud?
Ooh, it's the space in-between, how strange. The fact that King is transparent makes me think that this is not a dream, at least, not a normal one.
The Collector! So he's trapped here, huh? And he's looking for new friends. I wonder how the draining spell will help with that?
And King woke up. So it was a dream? Or was King astral projecting in his sleep?
The theme song is back! Luz's visuals weren't updated, disappointing.
Luz is communicating with Amity with that virtual pet toy thing. Now everybody knows that everybody is safe.
King noticed that Luz is excited about Amity, and offers to go home alone so that Luz can run off to her. Luz is not having it of course.
Flashback! The show shows why leaving King alone is a bad idea. Mine, there are a lot of flashbacks in the second half of season 2. And the words here are different too, but not in an ominous way this time. That's a neat detail, having every flashback be different from the original. I wonder what it all means?
The scouts are robbing the Owl House, the fiends.
Huh, confirmation that Hooty didn't kill the scouts who took part in his tea party.
The house is bare, but Luz found a secret message. The Clawthorne sisters are at the Knee.
Lilith tries to come up with a plan, while Eda pokes holes into them. Tensions are running high.
There are using Firebees for a campfire? Weird.
King is wearing a neat scarf.
Eda is not reacting well to the knowledge that the trip to find King's father was not as safe as Luz and Lilith believed.
Lilith, meanwhile, has a normal one about the fact that King is a titan.
Eda pretends to have a plan so Luz doesn't worry.
She suggests a family day out. King wants to have a normal day, while Luz wants to rob someone.
King is uncomfortable about Lilith worshiping him. Character development!
Ah, Luz wants to rescue Francois from the Emperor's Coven, who as I mentioned earlier, robbed the Owl House. How sweet, she just wants to cheer up her little brother!
Ha, "20 more adventures". Also, we were robbed of a beach episode!
Oh, look, another scout with horns. I wasn't able to mention this last week, but I like how goofy and dorky the Coven scouts are. Like here, they are complaining about overtime and acting like there's going to be a day after the Day of Unity.
Luz and Eda need to sneak into the scout precinct, and they need to be careful because of the Hollow Mind incident. So they disguise themselves as scouts.
King is walking around aimlessly, only to find Steve! And he's wearing a motorcycle jacket. King is lost as to what he wants, while Steve is rethinking the Emperor's Coven business.
The Titan's just a normal guy, fr.
Lilith is worried about offending King.
A bigger problem? Is someone getting close to the camp?
This precinct got laughable security.
Raine! And she's looking for Eda, just wants to make sure she's safe I guess.
King is on a road trip! With a bad boy Steve.
Aww, Steve wants love. Or his family? An old couple can mean either way honestly.
Lilith is tracking down King, why?
Eda wants Raine's help, aww. And she doesn't know that Raine remembers their reunion, so she's just desperate and appealing to their sense of morality to help find a safe place for Luz and King.
Luz overhears and is upset. She doesn't want to be sent away. I can see both sides. On one hand, Luz is the protagonist and needs to be there to save the day. On the other hand, she's too young to be fighting a fascist dictatorship.
Oh damn, Luz and Eda are fighting! That was unexpected.
The fighting attracts attention, and they get captured by the Coven scouts.
King and Steve have a heart-to-heart about what they wanted in life. Steve is a sweet kid. This whole sub-plot was nice, it was like a nostalgic summer road trip.
Steve face reveal!
Lilith confronts Steve and learns two truths.
Meanwhile, in prison, Eda and Luz are arguing, and Eda reveals the truth about her "plan": there's nothing. No allies, no magic, Eda can't see a way out.
Luz gets separated into a different paddywagon, and the door closes with all hope lost. A few hours later, the door opens with Luz charging out, but surprise! Eda found some allies! Specifically Raine & Co.
Luz fangirls over Raine.
Ooh, Eda/Raine parallels, as they both are reluctant to put their loved ones in danger.
The CATTs! It's just like that one fanfic, what it's called, "Blight on Bonesbourgh" or something.
The cat hoodie is back! Man, Luz looks so cool.
And Eda rescues the palismen wood.
King said meow meow in the same tone of voice as Luz in the first episode, he's mimicking his big sister.
Luz learns that she's very lovable and gets to work on her palismen, get hype!!!
Reactions to other reactions
Eda put two jackets on Luz at once, iconic.
Huh, apparently the crew cut a character and gave their role to Steve. If true, that might explain why he got a surprisingly important role here.
Oh, Amity said "Mom took pensta", Odalia you jerk. I hope Amity is ok.
King potentially having the ability to make portals? Neat! It fits with the power of Titan's Blood if living titans can just do it themselves, and have an added bonus that we don't need to extract any of King's blood.
Oh yeah, what happened to Jean-Luc? Hope our favorite babysitter is ok.
Hooty got a smaller hooty inside his mouth. I have no words.
Looking forward
The big question is what animal Luz is going to carve for her palismen. The big three theories are a snake, a bat, or some kind of bird. I feel like snakes are associated with her connection to the Human Realm. She brought snakes to school in the first episode, she was wearing a shirt with a picture of a snake on it in those pictures of her dad, and all her friends back home were reptilian. Birds of course associated with the Clawthorne family, so her carving one will symbolize her being a part of it. Bats are associated with Luz a lot: her phone got a bat case, her avatar on that communicator device is a bat, and she wore a bat costume in Dana's Holloween art. And of course, it will make her the bat to Amity's cat.
Of course, I feel like the real answer is some cute made-up critter. That seems like something they would do. It's not like anybody else's palismen was foreshadowed.
The next episode will be the day leading up to the Day of Unity, with the episode after that being the big day itself. This feels like a 2-parter to me, and that means the first part is going to end on a downer. Prepare yourselves, I guess.
I have this pet theory that Luz is going to get stuck in the Human Realm as a sort of season-wide cliffhanger, and the season 3 specials will involve her trying to get back and settle the "human or demon" question once and for all (Side note: why do some people think that season 3 will just be epilogue? How does that even make any sense? It's basically a three-part movie, that's climax material baby!).
Damn, to think there are only two episodes left in this season. How time flies...

(owl house ask person)
Oh, yeah I get that. I have trouble getting around to new stuff to (even if I'm very interested and really want to)
The plot does get pretty intense tho, esp in season 2. Season 1 isn't too bad tho, it's mostly light (at least in comparison).
I get the same issue too sometimes (delusional stuff, and yeah, it's not very fun). It never bothers me when I first watch the EP tho, it's always later when I'm going through fan content or just thinking extensively about the episodes. (It's mostly the recent episodes, they've been pretty heavy eps, but I still end up having to take breaks from time to time)
I'm glad you like the joke tho :D
Hello again; I am very sorry about it, it Is kind of sucky to have this issue
I am sorry that you have that too, I think this further proves that you deserve to have me-time and to look after yourself more , hope youre being easier on yourself
Thank you for explaining the show for me, it feels more safe to know what kind of show it is; from what i understood its still ongoing which is nice
yes; you must be a good writer

Luz Appreciation Week 2022 Prompts
Told you I’d get them to you by tomorrow? Just needed time to think.
Now, here are the prompts for Luz Appreciation Week 2022. You can do whatever you want with them. Whether it’s to write a quick one shot or draw something, it doesn’t matter. I’ll still like and reblog it all just the same, just so everyone else can see the amazing work that you made.
And, as a reminder, this starts on March 12th until March 18th, all to countdown The Owl House’s return on the 19th. Are we all clear? Perfect. Now, here are the prompts:
Day 1 (March 12th)-Dominican Republic Culture: One aspect about Luz that doesn’t get touched upon much is that she has a Dominican heritage. And let’s fix that four our good friends in that corner of the world who love The Owl House. Write a story about Luz embracing her culture or draw her in an outfit that reflects it. Anything should work, and I suggest you do your research. I mean, Google is RIGHT THERE.
Day 2 (March 13th)-Fangirl: If there’s one thing we know about Luz, she’s a nerd. So let’s have her do some nerdy things, whether it’d be cosplaying or reading/writing fanfics. Because you cannot tell me that she hasn’t done that at least once.
Day 3 (March 14th)-Siblings: I think it’s safe to say that Luz has three siblings at this point. King’s like the little brother she’s never had, Hunter’s the older brother she never wanted, and Vee is all but Luz’s adopted sister. So, let’s show some of the love that Luz has for one (if not all) of her siblings!
Day 4 (March 15th)-Bad Ending: “WHY?!” Because Season 2B is apparently the more heart wrenching half of the season. Might as well ease into it. The actual question is, what counts as a bad ending? Is it Luz being stuck in the demon realm away from her mother? Is it Luz stuck in the human realm, away from her friends? Or is it that she’s stuck in neither and she’s trapped in that in-between place, never to see anyone she loves again? Anything’s possible, and I’ll leave it to you decide how to go about it.
Day 5 (March 16th)-Using the Noggin’: Want to know something? Luz is smart. Like, she finds a lot of glyphs on her own and manages to win the day by outthinking her enemies rather than outsmart them. Let’s honor that, shall we? Have Luz study a new glyph, have her outsmart an enemy. Anything works as long as it proves one thing: Luz is smart.
Day 6 (March 17th)-Awesome Girlfriend: I had to--I HAD TO! But, just like last time, I will clarify: This is the only day you’re allowed to use Amity. Or, at the very least, use her in an excessive amount. AND keep Luz as the focus. Like, show how she would prepare for a date or what she’d go through to give Amity a gift. Don’t use this excuse to use Amity out of proportion.
Day 7 (March 18th)-Help from the Helpless: The best thing about Luz is how she’s a light upon the lives of everyone she’s met. So many lives are better because of her, and she often risks a lot to make everyone happy. To capture that, show just how much she cares about the people she loves. Have her help Eda, Willow, Gus, Lilith, HER MOM. Anyone would work. Just as long as it proves how much of a shining ball of light that Luz really is.
And those are your prompts. Unfortunately, I won’t participate this time around. I just don’t have it in me to do so. But, like I said, I will share any and every thing you post so more people can see your incredible work. Just remember to type “luz appreciation week 2022″ in the tags, and I’ll find it.
I repeat: Type “luz appreciation week 2022″ exactly as it is in the quotes.
I’ll see what you’ll all make in March. Have a good day.

Episode Review: ‘Wizard City’ (Distant Lands, Ep. 4)
Tumblr media
Airdate: September 2, 2021
Story by: Adam Muto, Jack Pendarvis, Kate Tsang, Hanna K. Nyström, & Charley Feldman
Storyboarded by: Maya Petersen, Hanna K. Nyström, Anna Syvertsson, & Aleks Sennwald, & Haewon Lee
Directed by: Miki Brewster & Jeff Liu (supervising), Sandra Lee (art)
An episode focusing on Peppermint Butler’s dark side is something that the fandom has craved ever since the little guy demanded Finn and Jake’s flesh in season two’s “Death in Bloom.” While installments like season five’s “The Suitor” and season six’s “Nemesis” did much to scratch that itch, the story of the Dark One remained mostly unknown…
And after “Wizard City,” it still remains largely unknown. But that’s OK, because instead of focusing on the character’s history, this special focuses on Peps’ quest to relearn magic at a magic school. Put most simply, this special is largely a fun excuse for the show to riff on Harry Potter and The Owl House-style “magic school hijinks,” and it mostly all works.
The special follows Peps quest to go to WizArts (a definite play on CalArts, the school that Pen Ward and Adam Muto, among many others, went to) so that he can relearn magic and once again become one of the greatest dark wizards of his time. Initially, Peps tries to make friends with cool kid Spader and his posse, but once they learn that Peps is not as talented at magic as they had initially thought, they kick him to the curb. It is at this point that Cadebra, Abracadaniel’s adorkable niece who is fascinated with stage magic, enters the picture. Cadebra tries everything in her power to befriend Peps, but Peps pushes back, since she’s not “cool.” It does not matter, though, because both Peps and Cadebra are sorted into the same “house”—the “Skink House—and are forced to work together.
While Peps and his cohort begin learning more and more complex magic, a secret cult of school professors, led by the otherwise caring Dr. Caledonius, are scheming to resurrect Coconteppi, a powerful dark wizard whose putrid heart has been discovered underneath the school excreting a very powerful ichor. The school cult kidnaps Spader and gives him some of the ichor to drink; they hope that because of his talent, he will be able to house the spirit of Coconteppi. This does not go as planned, and Spader is graphically killed (albeit off screen). (In a more humorous moment, Bufo, the scam wizard from season one’s “Wizard,” also ingests some of the ichor, believing himself powerful enough to handle it, but it kills him.)
Eventually Peps and Cadebra learn what is going on. Dr. Caledonius welcomes Peps, believing that he is strong enough to handle the ichor. When Cadebra’s life is put in danger, Peps reluctantly gives the putrid fluid a swig, which infuses him with the power of Coconteppi. Coconteppi-Peps then kills all the cult members before Cadebra manages to remove the ichor from Peps body. For uncovering a heinous plot, Peps is promoted to the highest house, “Salamander,” but he decides to remain a Skink and learn magic “the hard way” with Cadebra as his friend.
As I mentioned near the start of this review, “Wizard City” spends most of its time riffing on the “magic boarding school” trope, with much of the episode feeling like a light-hearted parody of Harry Potter: The characters, after all, are “sorted” into “houses,” they learn various types of magic from skilled “professors,” and they bunk in different parts of a large castle-like campus. Of course, Harry Potter didn’t invent the idea of a boarding school, but when setting your story in a school for magic, it is very hard not to lean at least somewhat into the Hogwarts relation. And this really is a double-edged sword, for while Harry Potter references can be fun here and there, they can also make the overall story feel like a fanfic parody. This special does a good job focusing more so on the characters rather than the setting, but I won’t lie, at times it did feel as if they show was really trying to make you realize it was making a Harry Potter joke.
Of all the characters introduced in the special, the breakout star is easily Cadebra, voiced by Chloe Coleman. Radiating a sort of Mabel Pines energy, Cadebra is the beam of optimism who shines brightly in an otherwise macabre special. There is something about her plucky personality and sense of wacky individualism that charms the viewer. I appreciate how the show compared and contrasted her with her uncle, the one and only Abracadaniel: like her uncle, Cadebra is a good person who wants to help others, but unlike Abracadaniel, she has a sense of courage and fortitude that results in her taking on a Coconteppi-possessed Peps at the episode’s climax. (Say what you will, Abracadaniel stans, but our favorite custodian would never have done that!) Thanks to her bravery and dedication to Peps, Cadebra is easily the heart of the special.
The episode throws an interesting little curveball into the mix by having the ‘ghost’ of Past Peppermint Butler constantly haunt Peps in the here-and-now. Past Peppermint, it seems, was so determined to become a great wizard, he cursed himself, so that if anything were to go awry, his Past self could materialize and set him straight. It’s confusing, but I do think that mixing the “overbearing parent” trope with a curse is a clever idea; it gives the whole special some dramatic heft. The whole setup is made even funnier by the special’s conclusion: After Future Peppermint Butler is ‘defeated’ and the day is saved, Peps reveals to Cadebra that he still wants to be a great and powerful dark wizard… but he wants to earn that power through hard work and determination. (Peppermint Butler might commune with demons, but he would never sell his soul to one for power; Glob helps those who help themselves, ya know?)
One of the special’s strongest points is its background art. Adventure Time always had some beautiful set pieces, and this special goes above and beyond to give WizArts an ancient sense of grandeur and mystery. Ghostshrimp, a freelance artist who was the show’s lead background designer during seasons 1-4, return for this special as a “visual developer”—basically, he mocked up a bunch of rough designs for the locales, and then the episode’s background artists worked up the final pieces in his style. On his podcast, Ghostshrimp mentioned how hectic he found Adventure Time to be, because he was used to taking his time on pieces. As such, the decision to bring him on for just development was smart, as it allowed him to still come up with iconic background designs while also playing fast and loose with everything. Hopefully the show will continue this approach with the Fionna and Cake miniseries that is coming up. After all, Ghosthsrimp’s style is the look of Adventure Time.
Another strong point for the episode is its voice acting. For one thing, you have your regulars like Tom Kenny and Dana Snyder, and Duncan Trussell, who all give a solid performance. But to voice many of the special’s new characters, the show brought on a bevy of fun actors: Saturday Night Live’s Bill Hader, for instance, is now voicing Bufo, and he does a solid job hamming up his role as the old fogey. And then there’s Toks Olagundoye, whose British accent gives Dr. Caledonius a sense of knowledge and expertise. To my delight and surprise, SungWon Cho, an internet personality and voice actor perhaps better known as ProZD, was tapped to voice Brain Wizard, and he does an excellent job. And finally, Anthony Stewart Head, a very talented actor who I know best as Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, voices Con Wizard, and is even given a fun little ditty to sing. I can safely say that the voice acting in this special is likely the best of the bunch, and it’s obvious that the actors were all having a great time playing their parts.
What drags the whole thing down, in my opinion is the excessive murder. (I joked on Twitter that during the climax of “Wizard City,” it felt like I was watching an Adventure Time-ified version of Invincible!) Infused with the power of Coconteppi, Peps goes on a brutal killing spree, boiling Potable Wizard into steam, zapping Dimension Wizard into another plane of existence, smashing Berdzerd, and—perhaps most graphically—excerebrates (had to look that word up!) Brain Wiz. On Twitter, @sometipsygnostalgic argued that while, yes, the scene is startling, it does wonders to transmute “a poor Summer Camp Island knockoff [into] Adventure Time chaos.” The more I think about it, the more I think that’s a fair point; after all, this is hardly the first dark thing that has happened in Adventure Time. But the part that I cannot really stomach is the fact that Spader was murdered for no real reason, and the special ends without anyone really expressing their horror at the situation. Sure, Spader was a schoolyard bully, but he was also a child. And killing a child—either for the drama or the lulz—feels decidedly out of place in an Adventure Time episode. It’s hard to express, but it just felt unnecessarily nihilistic and mean-spirited.
All things considered, I think this was a fun episode, but it was somewhat underwhelming for a ‘finale.’ Much of this is because it had to air after the perfection that was the back-to-back “Obsidian”/”Together Again” wombo combo. But I can’t help but feel like this special just felt a little... off. A little too meanspirited, and it leaned a bit too much on standard tropes. Still, it was a fun spin, and I know that I’ll rewatch it.
Mushroom War Evidence: As Peps rides the bus to school, he passes a bunch of abandoned houses, some of which are buried in the ground. There is an unexploded bomb above the fossilized elephant in the school. Cadebra has a dream that takes place in the ruins of a city.
Final Grade: B+

LGBTQ+ Historical Romance novels with Winter Themes and Holidays, 2021.
Winter of the Owl: Seasons of Lukoi Book One by Iris Foxglove
- Sava has the best house in all of Lukos. He built it himself, dreaming of the day when he and Milan, the man he loved, could live there and brave the harsh winters of Lukos together—only to be devastated when Milan was found dead in the spring. Fraught with grief, Sava resigns himself to spending his winters alone. Then a stranger appears on his doorstep, and everything changes. Victor is a scholar from Gerakia, a land known for its long summers and vibrant history, and he has never been more unprepared in his life. Abandoned on the inhospitable island of Lukos after a disastrous relationship, Victor has to adapt quickly to survive. It helps, of course, that he’s taken in by Sava, who has the biggest heart of any man Victor has ever known. Victor and Sava start to make a home together, growing close as snow falls outside, but the true danger of a Lukos winter is closer than they suspect...
A Winter’s Earl by Annabelle Greene
- Come to me. I need you. It’s a matter of life-and-death. Infamous poet Sherborne Clarke is a scholar, a lover—but not a father. When he finds a baby abandoned on the steps of his crumbling castle, he knows he must get her to London and an orphanage. It’s the perfect excuse to contact the one person he trusts…the man whose love he stills yearns for, and whose heart he broke years before. Richard Ashbrook was groomed from birth to become the Earl of Portland, until Sherborne betrayed him, exposing his sexuality to the papers and forcing him into exile. But as much as he hates Sherborne, Richard has never managed to break their link or let his confusing sentiments concerning him subside. When he receives a missive implying that Sherborne's life is at risk, he knows it is time to return home.   Richard undergoes the perilous journey from Sicily only to find the other man untouched. Furious, he agrees to transport the baby to London—whatever gets him out of Sherborne’s life once and for all. But when a snowstorm leaves them stranded, they’re forced to confront the past—and deal with the love between them that’s all too present.
The Mad Monk and the Christmas Pie (A Brother Sebastian Mystery) by Mark Lesney
- Nineteenth-century New York was hardly the place for Alexander Collier, a ne’er do-well actor and ex-con, to make a living. So, teaming up with the so-called “Mad Monk” for a safe home and a little chicanery seemed a necessary compromise if he was going to survive.Alexander joins Brother Sebastian—a renegade Trappist monk-cum-spiritualist—in his crusade to protect the religious treasures of history from private greed. Brother Sebastian uses his “powers” as a heavenly medium to trick Robber Barons and wealthy members of society into doing good and turning over priceless artifacts. But where guile does not suffice, a little housebreaking, pickpocketing, and theft by the monk’s misfit crew of servants and rogues can turn the tide—at least until treachery leads to a Christmas murder and an unexpected romance.
A Highland Homanay (Christmas Masquerade Book 2) by Meg Mardell (f/f, biracial MC)
- The daughter of an Indian raja and renegade Englishwoman, Sharda Holkar, was gifted with a magnificent dowry but little say in her future. Until now. She must endure one more depressing holiday season with her controlling cousins, then she will be free to begin her emancipated life. But her discovery of a plot to marry her off to the preening son of the house has Sharda wondering if her new start should begin at once. When Sharda meets the intriguing owner of a Highland castle at a Christmas Eve masquerade, she wastes no time in forming a plan—she will escape across the Scottish border!
Finella Forbes cannot imagine why a sophisticated heiress like Sharda would even associate with someone who manages a castle for a living, let alone accompany her all the way back to the Highlands in time for the raucous celebration of Hogmanay. But a wealthy buyer is just what Balintore Castle needs. Fin is determined to prove she is just as good an estate manager as her father, but with the negligent lordly owner refusing to do his duty, she needs help fast. When mistaken assumptions jeopardise their initial attraction, Sharda and Fin will need all the mischief and magic of a Highland holiday to discover the true nature of their feelings.
Oak King Holly King by Sebastian Nothwell
- Shrike, the Butcher of Blackthorn, is a legendary warrior of the fae realms. When he wins a tournament in the Court of the Silver Wheel, its queen names him her Oak King - a figurehead destined to die in a ritual duel to invoke the change of seasons. Shrike is determined to survive. Even if it means he must put his heart as well as his life into a mere mortal’s hands.
Wren Lofthouse, a London clerk, has long ago resigned himself to a life of tedium and given up his fanciful dreams. When a medieval-looking brute arrives at his office to murmur of destiny, he’s inclined to think his old enemies are playing an elaborate prank. Still, he can’t help feeling intrigued by the bizarre-yet-handsome stranger and his fantastical ramblings, whose presence stirs up emotions Wren has tried to lock away in the withered husk of his heart.
As Shrike whisks Wren away to a world of Wild Hunts and arcane rites, Wren is freed from the repression of Victorian society. But both the fae and mortal realms prove treacherous to their growing bond. Wren and Shrike must fight side-by-side to see who will claim victory - Oak King or Holly King.

After a disastrous love affair in the past, Chant has sworn to never give his heart away again. Especially to a man who does not want it. But it isn’t just their hearts at stake. When their investigation takes a dangerous turn and their lives are threatened, both Gale and Chant are forced into the realisation that perhaps two imperfect men might fit perfectly together—that is, if they can outwit the killer who is intent on seeing them both dead.
