Synopsis: Arvin snaps at you after a bad day for the both of you

Tumblr media
Arvin came home after a rough day and just wanted to be alone. Nothing particularly horrible happened, just a bunch of little annoyances that left him irritable and tired. He hung up his jacket with a heavy sigh and went to the kitchen to get some water. You had been looking at a slip of paper with a deep frown but folded it up and set it down when you saw Arvin come in.
“Hi, honey. How was your day?” You asked as you put on a smile for him.
“Not great.” He mumbled as he took a seat at the kitchen table and poured himself some water. You immediately went over to him and put your hands on his shoulders.
“Oh, I’m sorry. What happened?” You asked as you rubbed small circles on his back.
“Don’t wanna talk about it.” Arvin mumbled and pulled away from your touch. He was feeling overstimulated already and didn’t want to be touched at the moment, but you didn’t realize that yet.
“Was it because of the heat? I was thinking bout you all day. You must’ve been sweating like a pig out there at the tar pits. Bet it was real hot, huh?”
“No. Wasn’t the heat. Just had a bad day, is all.” Arvin said and gave you a tired look. He hoped you’d see how exhausted he was and just leave him alone.
“Oh.” You nodded in understanding. “It was that one worker, wasn’t it? What was his name again? Sal? No. Was is James? Or is his name Joe? I can’t remember. But you said something bout him once after he-“
“Wasn’t a worker either. Just had a bad day, okay?” Arvin repeated, starting to get frustrated with you. For some reason, your simple questions were making his blood boil under his skin.
“I’m sorry you had a bad day, honey. Would it make you feel better if I fixed you something to eat?” You asked and tried to rub his back again. Arvin clenched his hands into fists and took a deep breath before letting them go.
“I’m not hungry. Don’t worry bout me. I just wanna be alone right now.” He told you and started to walk towards your shared bedroom.
“What about a bath? I bet that would make you feel better. Don’t you want to sit down in a nice, hot bath? I’ll draw one for you. I could even join you.” You offered as you followed him to the room. He was so annoyed from his day at work that he wasn’t even listened to what you were saying, he only knew that you were talking when he wanted silence.
“No, that’s okay. I’ll probably just take a nap or something.” He gave you a tight smile and took a seat on your bed.
“Okay. Good idea. Get some rest, honey. I’ll get started on dinner.” You told him. You took his hat off his head and kissed his forehead before leaving the room. Arvin sighed in a relief and laid down, finally getting the silence he wanted. The silence lasted about three minutes before you knocked on the doorframe.
“Hey Arvin?” You asked, making Arvins eyes fly open and remain on the ceiling.
“Do you want chicken tonight or stew? Cause I was thinking I could use the leftover chicken stock from yesterday to make a-“
“God damn it!” He cut you off and sat up in bed as he loudly slammed his fist down on the dresser beside him. You jumped a little and looked at him in confusion.
“Can you shut the fuck up for two seconds? I cannot stand the sound of your voice right now. How many god damn questions are you gonna ask me? I don’t care if you do chicken or stew or if you were hot today and I definitely don’t care about baths. I asked you to leave me alone. Why can’t you just to that? Just leave me the fuck alone!”
A silence fell between the two of you as you stared at each other across the bed room. You blinked a few times and Arvin saw your eyes well with tears before you looked down at the ground. He immediately felt guilty for yelling at you and wanted to apologize, but you started speaking first.
“Okay.” You said after a minute as you kept your eyes on your fingers while you nervously toyed with them.
“Okay?” Arvin asked in confusion. He didn’t expect such a short response after screaming so loud at you that the house shook.
“Okay, I’ll leave you alone.” You said quietly.
“Oh. All right. Thank you.” Arvin eyed you curiously, wondering why you weren’t shouting back.
“Um, I’ll just make dinner then. Sorry.” You said and quickly left the room.
Arvin tried to lay back down again but couldn’t stop thinking about what he had said. He was known to lose his temper, he had just never lost it at you like that. You’d been there to patch him up every time he let his anger get the better of him but this time, you had been the one on the receiving end. Arvin twiddled his thumb for a minute before laying down again. He tossed and turned it a few minutes before getting out of bed. He padded into the kitchen and saw you chopping vegetables on the counter.
“Baby doll?” He asked as he knocked on the doorframe to alert you to his presence. He saw you stiffen at the sound of his voice but you didn’t stop chopping up vegetables.
“What?” You asked without turning around. Arvin gulped a little, hearing that you write upset from the tone of your voice. He walked over to you and wrapped his arms around you from behind as he rested his chin on your shoulder.
“I’m sorry I shouted at you.” Arvin mumbled against the skin of your neck before placing a kiss there. You didn’t respond that time and continued with that you were doing. Arvin frowned and tried again.
“I wasn’t mad at you, darling. I was mad about everything else. I had a bad day-“
“I know.” You cut him off before moving out of his arms and going over to the sink. He watched as you filled a pot with water before slamming it down on the stove.
“I had a bad day and I snapped at you. I’m sorry.” He finished his sentence and hoped you would hear the sincerity in his voice. You stopped what you were doing suddenly and turned around the look at him.
“You know, I had a bad day too.” You told him as you folded your arms.
“What happened?” Arvin asked as his eyebrows knit together. You rolled your eyes a little before looking back down at the ground.
“Well, I went into work and found at that my boss’s son got the promotion that I’ve been working towards for months. But that’s fine. I almost expected that more them I expected the promotion. To make myself feel better, I stopped at the market on my way home. I thought I might bake something to surprise you. I accidentally bumped into this man with my cart and he screamed in my face. I got scared so I just left my cart there and walked back to my car. He followed me to scream at me some more. I just wanted to get home after that but I guess I was in too much of a hurry because Officer Bodecker pulled me over and gave me a ticket. Not before me mumbled something about how women shouldn’t be allowed on the road, of course. Then I came home. And I was so excited to to see you to tell you about my awful day. Because after everything that happened, I truly didn’t think my day could get any worse.” You said as you looked up at Arvin. He was looking at you with pity in his eyes, his guilt only doubling now that he knew the full story. You looked him up and down before shaking your head a little.
“And then my boyfriend yelled at me.” You said with a sad smile. Arvin shut his eyes and leg out a little sigh before going over to you. He put his hand on your shoulder but you didn’t look into his eyes.
“Baby doll, I am so sorry. I had no idea what kinda day you had.” He said in a soft voice.
“Would that have changed anything? Would you really have been able to control your temper?” You asked as you looked up at him. Arvin opened his mouth to respond, then shut it when he realized he didn’t have an answer. He wanted to think the answer was yes, but he couldn’t confidently tell you that. You noticed Arvins lost expression and sighed a little.
“Arvin, I know you’re tired. But I’m tired too. I’m tired of men getting to act however they want, and expect us not to react. I’ve been screamed at, purposely scared, and put down so many times just because a man near me had a bad day. Well I wanna scream too. I have bad days too.”
“I know you do, baby doll.” Arvin said and cupped your face. This time, you let him and rested your cheek in his hand.
“I’m sorry I shouted at you. I’m sorry I made your day worse. I wish I wasn’t so angry all the time. I don’t know why I’m like that. I wish I were different.”
The sadness in Arvins eyes, coupled with the genuine remorse in his voice, made you give him a sad smile. You thought about the childhood he had endured and all the reasons he had to be a perpetually angry person. You reached up and cupped Arvins face, taking him by surprise.
“I don’t wish you were different. I love you the way you are.” You told him, making his eyes soften. He wrapped his hand around your wrist and leaned into your palm.
“Please, let me make it up to you. How can I make your day better?” Arvin asked you. You thought about it for a second before a coy smile tugged at your lips.
“I can still draw that bath.”
“No, please, I don’t deserve it. You don’t have to do anything for me.” Arvin shook his head.
“I didn’t say it was just for you.” You told him as you pulled him by the shirt towards the bathroom.
A few minutes, you were sitting between Arvins legs in a warm bath with candles lit around you. Arvin scooped up some of the bubbles you had put into the tub and used them to give himself a bubble heard. You looked over your shoulder at him and laughed at what he had done.
“Do you feel better?” He asked now that he had you smiling again.
“‘Much.” You sighed happily and sunk deeper into the bath.
“I tell ya, that officer Bodecker don’t know what he’s talking about. I’m gonna go down to that station tomorrow and get that ticket cleared up.” Arvin declared.
“Aw, Arvie warvy.” You gushed. “Thanks, honey. I would appreciate that.”
“Yup. And after that, I’m gonna go to the market and get you all your favorite baking goods. You can make all the cookies and pies that can fit in our house.”
“That would be something, wouldn’t it? A whole house full of baked goods. Bet it would smell mighty fine in here.” You said as you looked over your shoulder with a smile.
“It would. And while you bake, I’m gonna make you the best damn dinner you ever did have. You won’t have to lift a finger.”
“Can you even cook, mister?” You raised an eyebrow at him.
“I’m gonna learn. I’ll hit the books right after this bath.” Arvin stated, malign you laugh again. He smiled and felt relieved to know you had forgiven him.
“What’s the rush? We can stay here all night if we want.”
“Suppose we could. But we’d get all pruny.” Arvin reminded you.
“I like prunes.” You shrugged and snuggled closer to his body. Arvin happily wrapped his arms around you and rested his chin on your head.
“You know what?” Arvin smiled. “So do I.”

Arvin watched as you paced down the driveway towards his car, it was obvious already that you were exhausted. You were slouched over, your hair, which had been down when he dropped you off, was now tied in a messy ponytail. Arvin leaned over to open the door for you as you approached the car.
“Hey sunshine,” he smiled, “Why the sour face?”
You shot him the dirtiest look he’d ever seen as you climbed into the passenger seat, “We are never, ever having kids.”
He laughed, “That bad?”
You nodded, “You have no idea. They were acting crazy all day, Jonathan started screaming if I put him down for even a second, and I couldn’t get Henry to sit down for anything. I mean even during lunch he kept getting up and running around.”
“I’m sorry darlin’,” he frowned and kissed the back of your hand, “Why don’t we skip the river today? We can just head back to mine or yours so you can rest for a while.”
“No, no, I still wanna go,” you insisted, “I’m sure you already packed food up and everything…”
“I did, but we still don’t have to go.”
“I want to, I’m sure I’ll feel better after I eat and sit down for a while,” you scooted into the middle seat of his truck and kissed his cheek.
“Alright,” he grinned, “But let me know if you change your mind.”
“Yay,” you cheered, snuggling into his side as he pulled onto the road.
Arvin set his hand on your leg but almost instantly retracted it, his face contorting to disgust, “Why are you sticky?”
“Oh god,” you groaned and looked down at your legs, they looked fine but when you touched them they were sticky, “I let the boys have some popsicles, I thought I got it all off of me,” you cringed as you poked your leg, “That’s disgusting.”
Arvin started to laugh, “Don’t worry, you can rinse off in the river.”
You sighed and leaned back against the car seat, “You better have packed some good food.”
“Don’t worry, I made us some sandwiches, and I went to that bakery downtown and got some of those little cakes you like,” he reached over for you again, running the back of his fingers down your cheek, “You could close your eyes for a minute pretty girl.”
“I’m okay,” you assured, turning lazily towards him, “You’re the best boyfriend in the world, you know that?”
“I try my best,” he lifted his arm, giving you room to snuggle up underneath it, “Now come here, sticky or not, I like having you close.”
“Aw,” you cooed as he wrapped his arm around you.
You turned your attention to the road ahead of you. The town started to fade away, being replaced with dense trees and only the occasional home as you krept closer and closer to the river. Arvin was driving out further than he usually he did, wanting to make sure that you two wouldn’t run into anyone while you were out. It was a special day, he wanted to keep it just the two of you.
“Here we are,” he grinned as he pulled into a small dirt parking lot. A large sign advertised some kind of hiking trail, “Looks like it’s just us.”
“Yay,” you grinned.
Arvin passed you the picnic blanket as he climbed out of the car. He took the basket of food and your hand and led you down a thin dirt trail. It was hot, and you were tired, but Arvin promised you it wasn’t a far walk. He half jokingly offered you a piggyback ride, but you had a little too much pride to accept it.
“Here we are,” he grinned as you two stumbled into a small alcove.
The river bank was all rock and grass, it was much more serene than the dirt banks closer to your home. You spread the blanket out on the grass and happily fell down on top of it. You kicked off your shoes and spread your arms out over the blanket. Arvin laughed and set the basket down beside you. You watched with a smile as he lifted his shirt over his head, leaving him in just his swim trunks.
“I would whistle if I wasn’t so tired,” you grinned up at him.
He smiled and tossed his shirt at your face, “There, you can have a souvenir.”
You rolled your eyes and pushed his shirt off you, “Come on, I already have a million of those.”
“Cause you’re a thief,” he pinched your chin and opened up the basket, “You still hungry sweetheart?”
“I’m starved,” you rubbed your grumbling stomach with a smile, “Sandwiches right?”
He nodded and set a paper plate in your lap, “Yeah, I put a lot of hard work into them so you better enjoy.”
Your eyes widened excitedly as he presented the sandwich to you, “Don’t worry, I plan on it.”
The sandwich tasted divine after the long day you’d had. You were eternally grateful that you had a boyfriend who didn’t mind sitting quietly while you ate. Arvin was always happy just to be near you, and he didn’t mind at all if you wanted to sit in silence after a long day. He would just sit beside you and peck at his food, watching you watch the river.
“This is nice,” you hummed, “The river’s beautiful.”
“You’re beautiful,” Arvin pecked your cheek.
You flushed and turned to him, “You don’t have to be so sweet all the time Arvin.”
“Well sure I do, it’s what you deserve,” he nuzzled his nose against your cheek, “How’s the sandwich?”
“Amazing,” you groaned before shoving the last bite into your mouth.
“Save room for dessert,” he laughed, “You really were starving huh?”
You nodded, “You have no idea, I had no time to eat while I was chasing the kids, I thought I was about to wither away.”
“My poor girl,” he flashed a pout, “You know when we have kids I’m sure they’ll be much sweeter to you than the boys are. They’ll save all the screaming and running around for me.”
“The boys are sweet Arvin, they’re just kids,” you cracked a small smile, “And I’m sure our kids will terrorize us equally.”
“Well probably, but I was trying to make you feel better,” he chuckled and peeked into the basket beside him, “You want your cake now sweetheart?”
You hummed and nodded, “Yeah, I think I do.”
“Great, just one thing first,” his cheeks dusted pink, “I know you said you didn’t want to do gifts but I couldn’t help myself…”
“Arvin,” you scolded.
“Yeah, yeah, I know,” he waved his hand at you and reached into the basket, pulling out a small black, velvet box, “It’s small, don’t worry.”
You tried to fight your smile as he placed the box in your lap, “Now I feel bad, I should have got you something.”
“I don’t need anything sweetheart, I just like seeing you happy,” he kissed your cheek, “Go ahead and open it.”
“I am, have some patience,” you giggled and pulled the box open.
Inside was a simple silver chain with a small heart charm hanging off of it. The charm had been delicately carved with both of your initials. It was absolutely gorgeous, your mouth fell open in disbelief.
“You like it?” he questioned.
You quickly nodded, “I love it Arvin, this is so beautiful.”
He let out a relieved breath, “Thank goodness. You have no clue how nervous I was.”
“I love it,” you repeated, pulling him in for a quick kiss, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he set both his hands over yours, “Can I help you put it on?”
“Yes, please,” you nodded eagerly.
Arvin crawled behind you and swept your hair to the side. He took the necklace from the box and wrapped it around your neck. He carefully clasped it behind you and pressed his lips to your neck.
“There,” he pulled away with a content hum, “I think it looks pretty, silver looks good on you.”
You nodded in agreement, “It’s perfect.”
“I’m glad you like it,” he ran his hand over your collar with a smile, “Happy anniversary sweetheart.”
“Happy anniversary,” you cooed back and wrapped your arms around his neck, “Have I ever told you how handsome you are?”
“A few times,” he nuzzled his nose against your cheek and started trailing kisses up your jaw, “How about we head in the water? It’s hot out here.”
“You can head in, I think I’m gonna lay down for a minute,” you patted his chest and flattened out the blanket, “Just a minute though, don’t let me fall asleep.”
“Why are you laying down if you don’t wanna fall asleep?” he laughed.
“I just wanna rest a minute,” you laid your head in his lap, “You can get in if you want.”
“No, no, I’ll stay here,” he ran his hand through your hair, “You rest.”
Your eyes fell heavy as you watched the river in front of you. The soothing sound of the water and Arvin’s hand in your hair were urging you to sleep, but you were determined to stay awake. You wanted to enjoy the river and actually get in the water for a while, you could sleep later, when you were curled up in bed with your boyfriend.
“You still wanna stay awake pretty girl?” Arvin cooed, noticing you starting to drift off in his lap.
“Yeah,” you mumbled, “I’m gonna get up and we’re gonna go swim.”
He smiled to himself, “Why don’t you get up then?”
“I will, I will,” you promised, “It’s only been a minute.”
“No,” he peaked at his watch, “It’s been almost an hour.”
You looked up at him, “No it hasn’t.”
“Yes, it has,” he chuckled, “You keep drifting off and waking up. You know we can always go home if you’re that tired, the river will still be here tomorrow.”
“I want to swim,” you insisted, slowly pushing yourself off his lap, “I gotta get my dress off.”
Arvin’s lips tugged to a smirked as you attempted to reach back and unzip your dress, “Let me help,” he gently tugged your zipper down to free you from the dress, “There you go.”
“Thank you,” you pulled the dress up and over your head and folded it up in your lap.
Arvin stood, taking just a moment to admire you in your swimsuit, “You coming?”
You yawned and nodded, “Yeah, just a sec.”
“I told you, we can always go home,” he offered again.
“I’m coming,” you tried to push yourself up, only for you to fall back down. Your left leg, which you’d been laying on top of, was totally numb, “Ouch,” you grunted as you fell back down.
Arvin started laughing, “Forget how to stand sweetheart?”
“No,” you groaned, “Help me, my leg is asleep,” you extended your arms towards him, expecting him to help you stand back up.
“Poor girl,” he clicked his tongue and bent down in front of you, “Let me help.”
He hoisted you into the air suddenly, pulling you in close to his chest as he stood. You squealed and clung to his neck, “Arvin put me down!” you demanded through a fit of giggles.
“You asked for help, I’m helping,” he laughed in response as he approached the water.
“You know that’s not what I meant,” you continued giggling as he entered the water.
“The water feels nice,” he dipped you down so your feet grazed the water.
You shivered at the sensation and stretched to try and dip your legs the rest of the way in, “Come on, let me get in.”
“Oh you mean put you down?” Arvin cocked his head, pretending not to know what you wanted as he waded deeper.
“Yes dork, so I can swim.”
“Ah,” he hummed, “I could do that, but I sort of like having you close,” he kissed your cheek, “You know you might be able to convince me to let you go though.”
“And how would I do that?” you smiled as he pulled you into the water with him, “A kiss maybe?”
“A kiss might do it,” he nodded.
“Okay,” you cupped his face in your hands, running your thumbs over his cheeks before you pressed his lips to his.
He smiled into the kiss, gently squeezing your body against his. His grip on you loosened and he let you slip out of his arms. Slowly you pulled away, looking up at him with a big smile. He pressed a kiss to the tip of your nose, then to your forehead.
“You know you’re too cute for your own good sunshine,” he purred.
“Well you’re too handsome for your own good,” you hummed in response.
“As long as I’m handsome enough for you to stick around that’s all I care about,” he ran his thumb over your bottom lip, “You better start swimming if that’s what you wanna do sweetheart, otherwise I’m gonna start kissing you again.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” you took his hand and leaned back into the water, “I think we’ve got time for both.”

“you better come quick, y/n. he’s hurt real bad.”
lenora drags you down the hall to arvin’s room. you rush behind her, letting her guide you by your hand.
“how bad is it? is he gonna be okay?” you ask. “you know arvin. he’s always gettin’ into trouble,” lenora sighs. “but he’s back on his feet in no time,” she reminds you. “your brother’s a champ, i’ll give him that,” you agree. the two of you stop in front of arvin’s bedroom door. “so are you for puttin’ up with him,” lenora smiles.
“thanks, nora. i’ve got it from here.”
lenora nods and disappears back down the hallway. you enter the room without bothering to knock, concern evident on your features. arvin is laid on his bed with a damp washcloth held to his forehead, his face littered with gashes. he jolts up when you barge in.
“aw, baby,” you coo, taking a seat at the edge of the bed. “it’s late, sweetheart. what’re you doing here?” arvin wonders. “lenora rang. said you had an accident,” you cup his face in both your hands. your thumbs smooth over the slices in his skin. “what happened?” you frown. “it was nothin’. nothin’ you need to worry your pretty little head about,” arvin assures you.
you raise a stern eyebrow at your boyfriend. he props himself up on his elbows and sets his washcloth aside, revealing a bump on his forehead.
“that’s not nothin’, arvin,” you gasp. “you get into another fight? if that son of a bitch gene is still pickin’ on you, i swear i’ll-“
“settle down, sweetheart. i ain’t fight nobody,” arvin chuckles, arms looping around your waist. “got a little banged up while i was workin’ on my car, that’s all,” he says. “but you work on your car all the time. never been hurt like this,” you tilt his head up to better inspect his face. “yeah, i know. made a mistake this time,” arvin winces.
“what kind of mistake?”
“i had the hood popped, and it sorta closed on me.”
arvin offers a pained smile. you let out a breath and press your forehead to his, careful to avoid the bump on it. he pulls you into his lap, his grin widening.
“didn’t break no bones or anything, did you? maybe we should get you checked up.”
“that’s alright. i’m okay, sweetness. promise.”
your eyes search for arvin’s. they meet yours.
“you sure? ‘cause lenora made it sound like somethin’ serious,” you recall. “shoot, she wasn’t even supposed to tell you,” arvin mumbles. “why not?” you furrow your eyebrows. “i don’t like it when you worry ‘bout me, and now you’re worryin’,” he nudges your forehead with his.
“i love you, arvin. can’t help it.”
“i love you, too. but i hate seein’ you so stressed out.”
“then don’t be so stressful.”
arvin captures your lips in a soft kiss. one of your hands travels down the back of his neck, lips moving slowly with his.
“think we both need a good night’s sleep. you wanna stay over?” arvin speaks up. “course,” you smile.
the two of you crawl into bed, cuddling up in each other’s arms. you kiss the bump on arvin’s forehead before he drifts off to a well deserved slumber.

i have a req for arvy…him admitting his feelings to you and he’s so nervous but when you reciprocate he kisses you so hard and holds you so tight argh 🫶🫶
arvin russell has never been the best at being good, despite what the elders of the town had said when he was a teenager. he was perfectly polite, always cared for his sister and went to church even though he and his family were the oddballs. though, since his “disappearance”, he’s past it all now, knows full well that anyone who used to know him from that barren town thinks he’s some urban legend gone down to hell.
not you, though.
in this new southern town, you’re the only one who arvin talks to. he figures that your kindness had been there since you were born, that it had been embedded in your veins because of the soft cadence in which you speak. you figure that he’s a lot cuter than the other boys in your town, not to mention the amount of help he’d been right after he’d moved in next door to you. lately, he’s always volunteering to give you rides, always around to help you with your garden.
he’s surprised now to find you in the dingy bar in town sipping on a beer and rejecting the advances of other men, daggers in your eyes that soften immediately when he sits on the stool next to you.
“didn’t know you drank.”
“fuck else is there to do in this shitty town?” you scoff. he snorts, eyebrows raising. you hardly ever cuss in public.
“lots, probably, if you gave any of these poor boys a chance, huh?”
“ha. none of them are worth my time.”
“why’re you still talking to me then?” arvin tries carefully.
you swallow a lump in your throat, smiling sheepishly at him. “because you are.”
it doesn’t take very much for arvin’s cheeks to heat up, roseate flush decorating his features. it’s not as noticeable to you in the low light of the bar, thank god.
“wanna go on a drive?” he asks. you nod.
it doesn’t take much convincing for you to get in the passenger seat of his car. for half an hour, he lets you talk. it feels liberating for you, so liberating that you have to ask him if it’s okay, but he chuckles and asks you more questions. you don’t remember the last time someone had asked something about you.
“you tired?” arvin asks you when the conversation is at a lull. he notices you slumped in your seat.
“no. just lookin’ at the stars.”
he looks at you for a long time until you blink back at him. his brown eyes on the road flicker with some sort of wanting, something that conveys a message you can’t quite decipher. you fiddle with the knob of his radio until it lands on something folk-y, a woman’s voice crooning about her lost lover.
“pull over.”
he listens to you. he can’t imagine not doing so — he never has when he’d help you cook dinner or garden or study.
“what’s up?”
“didn’t wanna waste your gas,” you giggle. “and it’s pretty outside. c’mon.”
arvin follows you onto the front of his car, in which the two of you hoist your bodies onto the hood and look up at the velvety black sky, scattered with stars. he’s scrounging for conversation, looking for something to fill the air so he can full the neurons firing within his body just from his closeness. right when you put your palm over his hand, he stops breathing.
“what’re you thinking about, pretty boy?” you coo.
“you’re drunk, aren’t ya?”
“’m not. what makes you think that?” you furrow your brows.
“y’just called me pretty boy.”
“i’m an honest person, arvin russell.”
an awkward beat. the car’s still running. bobby vinton sings from the car radio like a faraway ghost.
“what are you thinking about?” you ask him.
silence settles uneasily, and arvin thinks that if he were to answer your question with pure honesty, he’d ruin everything. there’s not enough beer in his system for him to make up something on the spot, so he stays quiet. he busies himself with squeezing the joints of your fingers carefully, mindlessly. he can’t look at your face.
“not much,” he asks quietly.
“that’s a lie,” you retort. “you’re very expressive, arvin, even when you think you’re bein’ stoic. i know there’s a shit ton going on in that pretty little head of yours. so tell me.”
he huffs out a breath, leaning back onto the windshield as he faces the sky. his eyelashes flutter like a hummingbird’s wings knowing that your drunken gaze is fixed on him, searing into him, waiting.
“i haven’t been able to get you off my mind for a second, y/n l/n,” he mumbles. “not since you accidentally hit me with a baseball and blamed it on little tanner wick.”
he looks at you now, finally, pupils blown out like flying saucers. or maybe it was the lack of light in the secluded hiding place you two were.
“who said i did that?” you try to hide your smirk, playing with a loose thread from the linen of your dress.
“the kid is five years old.”
“he’s a prodigy.”
he chuckles, shaking his head. “well, i looked up, and i saw you, and it felt like my whole world changed.”
“must’ve hit you too hard.”
“probably.”
the softness of his voice cracks you open and has you raw, but you’d rather die that be splayed out and vulnerable in front of arvin russell like this. hot blood pumps through your ears in anticipation.
“i think about you all the time, arvin,” you whisper.
it’s then when the knot in arvin’s chest untangles. instead, he’s wrapped up in you, freely flowing, especially when you inch closer to him so he can smell your hair. fresh picked daisies surrounds his senses.
you don’t really know how this is supposed to go. sure, boys have courted you before in high school, but in the form of childish notes and rehearsed speeches for school dances. the feel of arvin’s breath against your neck has you wired — this is different. this is unprecedented territory.
your nose twitches slightly like a rabbit’s when he pulls back to look at your face clearly, and he realizes that his emotional reaction to that tiny gesture alone means that he’s in love with you. he could never tell you that, though. but he says it silently with a kiss, pink mouth chapped against yours. there is a string between the two of you that tightens and tightens and tightens and you’re sure that you’re about to mesh into one very soon. the euphoria of it all has you spellbound.
he sucks on your bottom lip experimentally, sweetly, and there’s a dewy ache inside of you that’s all too tantalizing. he pulls away before you can do anything about it, ragged breaths falling from his mouth as he grips your thigh under your dress.
“what?” you rasp, smiling, holding his jaw.
arvin returns a grin and twirls your hair in between his rough fingers.
“think i might have to keep you, now.”

not a fever dream, just a fever ~ arvin russell
Tumblr media
summary: request given by anonymous - "could you do a blurb or oneshot about arvin looking after his sick girlfriend or the other way around please. Thanks :)"
warnings: language
word count: 1.5k
You were laying in your bed, your body facing the small window. Your mother had kept you from going to school today because your head was burning up. Reluctantly, you laid back down in your bed and tried to fall asleep, your head making it near to impossible. Your mother was quick to shut the curtains to keep the light from coming in, but it didn’t help much. You took the small rag with ice cubes that your father had prepared for you. The ice had melted, leaving a dripping and wet rag. Sitting up in your bed, you regained yourself, letting your sight catch up to the rest of your senses. You flipped the covers over your legs and set the damp cloth over your head. The wood floor beneath your feet was cold as you stepped to the ground. Your nightgown fell over your legs, warming you up. You gripped onto the nightstand as you stood up, ensuring that you couldn’t fall over. You continued your movements as you made your way down the hall to the kitchen.
You were so dizzy that you couldn’t see straight, but you somehow managed to make your way to the freezer. You opened the small appliance and grabbed a little more ice out of the new bag your father had just bought. The more that you stood there preparing the small rag, the more you felt like you were going to fall over. You were thankful for the counter behind you, supporting most of your weight. The rag was cold now, so you placed it on your head, catching your breath before moving. It seemed like the whole world was moving under you. It was almost like walking on one of those chain bridges you used to walk across on playgrounds as a kid. Your legs couldn’t walk in a straight line, but you were afraid to look down at your feet because it would make your vision all fuzzy again. Your ears were ringing so you couldn’t even make it all the way around the kitchen without toppling over.
But you didn’t hit the ground. The familiar scent of oil and diesel surrounded your senses and your hands grasped at the warm pair of arms circling your figure. The ice from your rag was all over the floor, melting. You wanted to cry, but would be too embarrassed if you let Arvin see you cry.
“Darlin’, hey…Are you alright?” When you didn’t respond, he shifted his hold on you to free a hand. His touch went to your forehead and his cold hands felt good. But the truth was, they weren’t cold at all. “Fuck baby, your burnin’ up.”
He maneuvered his hands under you to lift you up. You hadn’t realized that you were still on the ground, feeling like you were flying. The only thing that prevented you from thinking it was a dream was your boyfriend continuing to talk to you. But you couldn’t get a word out to respond, only small whimpers and whines.
Arvin had no idea why you didn’t call him first thing this morning. You knew that he had dropped out of his schooling to work for his grandma. You went to school with Lenora and that was how you met in the first place. He would have dropped everything at the shop if he knew you were in this bad of shape. The only reason he stopped by was because Lenora had phoned him from school, complaining about how you weren’t there. Your parents, or father at least, were negligent people. Being their only child, it was a surprise that they expected you not to rely on them and grow up strong on your own. Most of your friends were spoiled rotten by their mother and father if they were the only child. Arvin didn’t understand what led your father to leave someone as sweet and fragile as you all on your own. He started taking up responsibilities to take care of you when they wouldn’t. Driving you to school, helping you with school work even though he didn’t know what the fuck he was doing. You could always rely on him to be your shoulder to cry on, be your best friend. He wanted to brag to Lenora about how much time he spent with you. And you took care of him too, taking care of his cuts and bruises from fights in the back of the school yard, reading to him when he was upset because he never learned by himself. Whenever you read him stories, you always used voices similar to the way a teacher would read to her students. On the rare occasion, you would draw his attention in and he’d ask you how to read a sentence or too. Arvin loved it when you taught him to read. It was yet another excuse to spend time with you.
Arvin opened your bedroom door by lightly kicking it open. Your bed was all disheveled, blankets and pillows thrown all across the floor and sheets coming up from the corners. He laid you down among the mess, but grabbed the closest pillow to support your head. Your arms were still wrapped around his neck, not wanting to let go. When he felt you were relaxed on the bed enough, he reached back to unconnect your hands.
“No, no, no, no, no, don’t go,” you cried.
“I’m not leavin’ baby, just goin’ to get some ice.”
He felt terrible even leaving you for a second, but you were getting hotter by the minute. Arvin ran back to the kitchen and picked up what unmelted cubes he could and threw them inside the rag. He grabbed new ice and put the cloth together, wrapping it up nicely so it wouldn’t fall apart. Quickly making his way back to you, he saw you rolling around, your nightgown coming up with every move of your body.
“Darlin’ you gotta stop movin’. I gotta put ice on your head.” He kneeled down next to your bed and pulled your nightgown down in an effort to get you to stop moving. Once you were still he rubbed his hand up and down your thigh to calm you down with his free hand placing the ice on your head.
Your features stopped contorting and a small smile broke out across your face. Your eyes fluttered open to find the boy looking down at you, his brown eyes filled with worry.
“Arvin?” you asked.
“Yeah,” he sighed. “It’s me.”
“You always take such good care of me, Arv. What did I do to deserve you?”
He chuckled. “I should be askin’ that of you…Why didn’tcha call me?”
“I didn’t wanna bother you. I know you work.”
“I’d drop it in a second if it meant spendin’ time with you.”
You smiled and closed your eyes. Exhaustion was weighing you down, preventing you from having the energy to talk anymore. You wanted to thank Arvin for coming, but you just didn’t have it in you. The both of you stayed like that for a while, Arvin either rubbing your leg or combing his fingers through your hair. He replaced the ice when it melted, and though he wasn’t the best singer, tried to hum a few songs. Whenever his voice cracked or he missed a note, you would giggle, making him light up. You never wanted this afternoon to end, but you knew that your father would eventually be home and then it would be ‘bye-bye Arvin.’ Your father didn’t appreciate the Russell’s. Class-wise, or as high as class could go in Knockemstiff, Arvin and yourself were on two opposite sides of the spectrum. While you had no problem with it, it was a huge issue for your father. Your parents had always tried to keep you from talking with anyone they felt was dirt on the bottom of your shoes, but the only school in town wasn’t as prestigious as your old one. It allowed your fate to fall into society's hands, upsetting your father in the process.
“I gotta go soon. I never told my boss I left. He’s gotta be wonderin’ where I am right about now.”
You hadn’t moved in a while, but your stiff muscles managed to grasp onto the boy’s arm when he tried to pull away.
“No, I don’t want you to go.”
He was conflicted. It wasn’t really about work, more about fear of your father, but he couldn’t leave you whining like this.
“Alright. Just a little longer.”
“Cuddle?” you quietly asked, your figure shrinking.
“I guess,” he teased. Arvin got up from his spot on the floor and took off his boots before getting into bed with you. You squirmed into his touch, your body flush against his. You were still hot, but to you, he was cold to the touch. “Sleep, darlin’.”
And you did just that.

summary: rumors fly during an interview leading to a shock announcement for tom and his girlfriend
a/n: inspired by a tiktok i saw months ago and have not stopped thinking abt since i literally could not think of one panel-type event that wasnt comic-con i am so sorry flsjsjksjs
・°☆.。.:・°☆.。.:・°☆
Tom shifts in his seat, running one hand through his curls as he tries to keep his face animated and stop his eyes glazing over. he's been sat on a vaguely uncomfortable chair for the last hour or so at Comic-Con, promoting his latest movie and as much as he loves his job and the fans, all he wants to do is crawl into bed and curl up next to you for a good twelve hours.
"Tom?" prompts the interviewer.
"I- I'm so sorry, what was your question?" he asks, flushing in embarrassment at being caught zoning out.
"Is Y/N here today?" repeats the interviewer patiently.
Tom grins at the mention of your name and he sits up taller, eyes scanning the crows until he finds you, hoodie pulled up over your head to hide from eagle-eyed fans.
"She is, yeah. I basically dragged her here so we could kind of spend time together, as an apology." he admits.
"An apology?" the interviewer says. "What did you do, Tom?"
"Yeah, what did you do, Tom?" echoes one of his co-stars, laughing.
"I fell asleep during our movie date." Tom admits sheepishly, shaking his head at the roar of laughter from the crowd. "Twenty minutes in, I was out cold."
"You didn't!" laughs the interviewer. "What did she do?"
"She was the absolute best, of course. She just held me and stroked my hair and wrapped me up in a blanket and then stayed on the sofa with me all night." he says, eyes crinkling at the general "awww" from the crowd.
The interviewer's eyes glint mischievously as Tom tells his story, clearly sensing a way to divert the interview to The Good Stuff™.
"So speaking of Y/N, there's been a lot of talk about you two online recently." he starts. "Specifically, engagement rumors? Is there any basis, any truth to these rumors?"
Tom shifts around as he stalls for time until he can meet your eyes in the crowd, raising his fluffy eyebrow ever so slightly to silently ask if you're okay with him talking about your relationship. You give him a tiny nod, encouraging him to go on.
"No, we're not engaged." he says. "But we've honestly never been happier than we are right now. She's so creative, and caring, and funny, and gorgeous. There's no one else I'd rather spend my life with."
You can't help but feel slightly choked up as he gushes, resisting the urge to throw off your hoodie and run up to the stage, crushing him into a bear hug and never letting go.
"WHEN ARE YOU PROPOSING?!" yells a particularly enthusiastic fan, rousing cheers from the rest of the crowd and the cast members on stage.
Tom laughs as he winks at you again.
"When I'm sure she'll say yes."
This, of course, results in almost hysterical screams (affectionate).
You pull your phone from your pocket, tapping on Tom's contact and typing out a message. He's watching you of course, so when he feels his phone buzz in his pocket he pulls it out, cheering like an excited seven year old, "I got a text! From Y/N!"
Y/N 💗: i'd marry you in a heartbeat baby <3
He blows a kiss in your direction, grinning from ear to ear. As he's distracted, gazing at you lovingly, a co-star leans over his shoulder and reads the text.
"Holy shit!" they laugh. "Did Tom Holland just get engaged?"
The screams reach an all-time record and you wince slightly, bringing a hand up to your ringing ear. Tom snatches his phone closer, rolling his eyes.
"Hold your horses!" he laughs. "Let me check."
He balances the microphone in his left hand as he types out a quick message.
tommy 🤠: Did we just get engaged??
Y/N 💗: we will be when you give me that rock hidden at the back of your sock drawer 😳
Tom's soft brown eyes crinkle around the edges as he grins all but leaps up from his chair.
"Is this interview wrapping up soon?" He asks cheekily. "I've got to go get engaged."

“Momma’s taking me to get my hair done again tomorrow.” Betty bragged, earning ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhh’ from the small group of girls that sat with her, all except you. You were hardly paying attention to the bratty girl who you hardly considered a close friend of yours. You hung out with the clique at school, participated in most of the conversations, but you weren’t close enough with any of them to see them anywhere else besides during school. In fact, there were many times when you would sit or walk with them, but not be entirely there, this being one of them as you glanced at the boy across the lunch yard from you.
Arvin Russell, to many a quiet boy who made no difference in the course of their life, but to you, he was everything. You two were certainly a pair, nothing official in the eyes of others, but together you shared a connection so strong, you couldn’t imagine any sort of realistic future without him. You kept your relationship on the down low, preferring to meet up in private and only steal quick glances in public when others were around, especially your small girl crew. Even Arvin’s sister Lenora had no idea about you two, though she had her suspicions Arvin was with someone while he was out all evening doing what he played off as ‘studying’ or ‘partner work.’
Your secrecy wasn’t that you were ashamed of him, the complete opposite actually. The girls you hung around were considered quite popular in your small town high school, all stupid rich with the finest clothes and nothing, but the best cuisine for lunch (how they got such fancy food in a rural town was beyond you). From past drama, you also knew them to have a nasty habit of stealing one another’s partners, especially Betty who claimed she was better off alone, but had a different fling every month that she always ended up dumping. Though you weren’t completely sure, you knew that the news of your relationship with Arvin would put you both at risk of breaking up due to pressure and the chance for him to score someone better off than you, financially. Your insecurities had come up in conversation before with the boy you loved so dearly, but even after he had assured you that he would never do such a thing, you took no chances. Arvin was yours and you were forever his.
Your heart fluttered as you saw Arvin turn his head, meeting your stare as he grinned and winked at you. You blushed, hiding your smile by covering your mouth with your hand and subtly waving for him to turn back around in an attempt to get your head back into the conversation. You wouldn’t have succeeded if it weren’t for Ivy, another girl in the group who was seated next to you.
“Whatcha looking at y/n?”
You turned to her, eyes wide as you quickly regained composure and shrugged it off.
“Oh you know me! Always gawking off.” you awkwardly laughed, hoping to play it off. To your dismay, all the girls turned to look where you had been staring, seeing the back of Arvin’s hat covered head as he  obeyed your command to turn away, hiding his own grin.
“Hey, isn’t he that Russell boy?” one of the other girls asked, pointing him out. Your stomach dropped as conversation erupted around the boy who had your heart, something you definitely did not mean to happen.
“I hear he’s fucking his sister.”
“Oh don’t be silly Majorie! That boy couldn’t fuck a sock of he tried! He’s a virgin.”
“I don’t know about that. I’m betting you he has a whole six pack hidden under all that denim. Just look at those thighs!”
“You’re right. I bet he fucks better than half the actors in those rom-coms they keep coming out with.”
“None of those people are actually fucking, you idiot. That’s why it’s called acting.”
“Oh right, acting.”
You had heard enough. As if listening to them insult your beloved wasn’t enough to make you rage, the remarks they made about his body almost caused you to erupt. They were no better than the boys who harassed you all, sexualizing him in such a way, but you said nothing as you dusted off your skirt and packed up the rest of your lunch to leave. Betty, the unofficial ring leader, noticed as she perked up.
“Where ya going y/n?”
You smiled at her, hoping to not give away your anger.
“I just need to visit the ladies room before next period. I’ll see y’all later.”
“Do you want someone to go with you?” she offered, likely to send someone else instead of going herself. You shook your head. No way were you taking one of them with you.
“I’m alright thanks. Y’all can stay here and keep chatting, I don’t mind.”
Betty eyed you suspiciously, wondering what exactly you were hiding, but she didn’t voice her suspicions as she waved you off.
“Ok then, see ya.”
You walked back into the building and to your locker, spinning the lock dial to unlock it so you could put your lunch away and grab your books. As you opened the door, a folded piece of blue-lined paper fell from one of the aeration holes, fluttering down as it traveled to the floor, light as a feather. Once your hands were emptied, you bent over to pick it up and unfolded it. There were words written upon it, scribbled out in familiar handwriting that had you smiling at as you read through it.
Movie tonight? -A
You held it against your chest, closest to your heart as butterflies flew through your gut. You felt like flying right out of your shoes. As if it couldn’t get better, a voice sounded from behind you, low and slightly southern accented as the very person who wrote the note called out.
“So, what do ya say?” Arvin asked.
You turned around to find him stalking closer, noticing his hat slightly askew on his head as he neared you.
“I don’t know, that depends. Will there be … popcorn?” You asked, popping the p in a sultry tone and pausing for effect as you crossed your arms.
“Sure will.” he affirmed.
“And what about … soda?”
He leaned against the locker next to yours,  inches away as he smirked at you.
“All different kinds.”
You leaned against your open locker door, facing him as you wore your own smirk. You reached out to fix his hat, turning it so that it lay straight in his head as it should.
“But will there be … candy?”
He chuckled, reaching for the hand that you had used to fix his hat and entwining his fingers with yours.
“Why ya tryna be difficult darling? Of course there’d be candy.”
You giggled as he placed a chaste kiss on the back of your hand.
“We’ll in the case, I don’t see why I shouldn’t go.” you agreed, knowing both of you were very well aware that your answer would be yes all along. Arvin beamed at you.
“Great. I’ll pick ya up at 8:00 then and we’ll head over to the drive-in.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
Arvin leaned in, looking into your eyes and down at your lips. You didn’t pull away as he planted a kiss on them, pulling away for a second before going back in to kiss you again, really kiss you as his lips met yours. You almost gave in, never having gotten over the indescribable feeling of kissing him, but you knew better than to let him do that in public. You pulled away and scrunched your eyebrows in disapproval, a habit you had that Arvin loved. He thought you were extremely cute.
“Arvin,” you scolded. “Not in public. You know that.”
He shrugged, sliding a hand up to your face to cup your cheek, caressing it with his thumb.
“I’m sorry darling. Couldn’t help myself. You’re just so goddamn gorgeous.”
You blushed, turning to look at the floor and you pulled from his grasp and turned to walk the other way, the direction of your next class. You hoped he hadn’t seen your cheeks redden, but you knew he had.
“Later.” you called back to him, turning to smile at him as he smirked at you.
“Later then. I’ll pick you up tonight.”
“Don’t be late.” you teased, in a warning tone.
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
He closed your locker door for you, turning the opposite directions to head to his own class.
As promised, Arvin picked you up on time, even a few minutes early to give you plenty of time to pick out your snacks. You held his hand the whole way there, his thumb tracing soothing circles on the back of your hand, the car ride silent save for the light radio playing. You didn’t talk, but you were both perfectly happy. Comfortable in each other’s presence and thankful for one another.
Arvin found a nice parking spot near the back of the drive-in, making sure it was still in view of the movie screen and yet out of the way of the projector to avoid being illuminated by it.
After the sun had set and the cool darkness of the new night blew in, the movie began playing and you two watched the beginning. As the night went on, you had eaten through a third of your popcorn and drank most of your soda as Arvin snacked on a some candy, but your snacks were tossed aside halfway through the film as you two got less involved in the movie and more involved in each other, caught up in a heated kiss. You couldn’t exactly recall how it started, who initiated it, any of the details really. All you knew was that he smelled like the cologne you knew him to wear since the day you two met and he tasted like red vines.
Your arms were wrapped around his neck, holding you closer to him as he had his own around your waist, supporting you so you could do just that. You felt sparks as your lips moved against one another, slow turning to passionate in mere moments. You felt his tongue against your lower lip, seeking entrance which you denied playfully, grinning against his mouth. Arvin moved one of his hands down and lightly pinched your bum, causing you to gasp in surprise and giving him the opportunity to explore your mouth as he wished. You gave in, pulling on the roots of his hair as payback while simultaneously never wanting the moment to end as you moved your tongue in sync with his. There were no leaders, no one followed the other. It was a bond, simple as that, a bond that you shared and you personally never wanted to break.
As the movie continued on, you found yourself moving more and more onto Arvin’s lap until you were straddling him, your hands tangled in his hair as he fondled with your bum, feeling you all over, anywhere he could reach. Your lungs burned as they longed for air, your breathing heavy as you and Arvin’s lips finally left each other’s. You looked at him through your lashes, you head tilted down as you sat a little higher above him than you would at your usual height, his lap giving you a small boost. He eyed you in front of him, breathing heavily as his left hand moved up your body to cup your face, his thumb tugging at your now puffy and red bottom lip. He leaned in closer, your noses touching as he mumbled against your lips.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?”
You chuckled, nuzzling your nose against his. It was now that heat would have flushed out your cheeks, but they were already rosy from kissing him.
“No more sweet talk, Russell. Kiss me again.”
“I only said one thing.”
“Mmm, I know, but it was too much.”
You pecked his lips, ready for it to get as intense as it was again until Arvin smirked and pulled away, fake glaring at you after you rejected his compliment. You were the one who cupped his chin this time, smiling at him.
“Hey. You know I’m just joking.”
You leaned into him, resting your forehead against his as he helped adjust you so that you sat comfortably against him, his arms wrapping back around you.
“I love you Arvin Russell.” you confessed.
It wasn’t the first time, you had already said your firsts months ago, but the effect you had on him, especially when you said those words, it never wore off. It was the same for him. Those three little words and he would have you melting, effortlessly, every damn time. Like a weakness, they got you at your most vulnerable. He pecked your lips again, this time with a little more force, his lips lingering on yours for a little longer. He picked up his head to break it, only for a second as he told you sincerely, “I love you, y/n y/l/n.” and before you knew it, his lips were back on your and you started making out again, intertwined and not to be unwound until at least the end of the movie.
School the next day felt long, nothing out of the norm, but you didn’t like it regardless. Not when you could be away from it all in the passenger's side of Arvin’s car as he drove you two to your special picnic spot. But alas, you were stuck with your cliché girl clique, dreaming of a weekend picnic. You had to remember to tell Arvin.
After your morning classes, you walked with one of the girls, Ivy, to your usual lunch spot when you noticed the other girls weren’t sitting down at your table like they normally would be. Instead you were horrified to see them all gathered around a table that was the usual lunch spot of a certain someone. You were stunned as Ivy dragged you towards them, listening as you heard them giggle and flirt with your boyfriend. There was no way they could have known, no way they found out about him so easily.
“I love that hat on you, Arvin.”
“Whatcha eating for lunch Arvin? How’s the taste?”
“Been working loads, Arvin? Doing some heavy lifting? I can tell.”
As you neared you noticed Betty sipping on what appeared to be a drive-in bag of gummy peach rings, eyeing you with a conniving look. That’s when it hit you. They must have seen you together at the drive in, they had to. One little mistake and now the wolves were after your love.
To your surprise, as you joined the crowd, the girls welcomed you with giggles.
“Lovely to see you y/n.”
“Is your lunch as good as your dinner from last night, y/n?”
“Come say hi to Arvin y/n! I’m sure you two know each other.”
You were red in the face, angry as you eyed Arvin who looked at you worriedly and glared at the girls.
“Ladies, I think we should give poor Arvin some space.” you suggested, hoping they’d take the hint and scram. Betty shook her head and placed her candy down on the lunch table.
“But we’ve only just started talking to him. I haven’t even gotten a chance to show him my new cut.”
She crossed a line as she bent down, her elbows squeezing her chest together to make her cleavage more obvious as she gave Arvin a seductive look. Arvin shifted in his seat, uncomfortably.
“So Arvin, how ya like my new hair? I just got it done this morning, missed first period. Go on, you can touch it if you’d like.”
You couldn’t believe it as your eyes watered, close to tears as you almost cried. But luckily, Arvin noted the lack of respect of boundaries as he stood and rolled his eyes. He made his way through the crowd of girls, scoffing as he reached for you and pulled you to him by your shoulder.
“Now, I’ve been tryna be nice and listen to y’all, but I can’t take another word. If this is how you react when you find out a girl that’s supposed to be your friend has a boyfriend, then I don’t want her to be friends with y’all no more. I’ve had it! Ya hear?!” The girls backed away, from you and Arvin as he moved his hand to grip your waist, a subtle message that he was here for you. They all nodded.
“Good. Now me an’ my girl are gonna go enjoy our lunch without all this nonsense. I don’t want to see any of y’all come near her again.” he started to walk off with you, the girls still shocked, but before you left, he turned back to one of the girls.
“And Betty, you best take care of that rat's nest on your head cuz it ain’t doing no one any favors.”
Betty looked appalled as you turned away from her and laughed with your lover, waiting until you were far enough away from the crowd to thank him at what was your new lunch spot.
You should never have doubted him, his loyalty to you. He’d never leave you for money, he’d never leave you for anything. Girls with centuries of financial stability had offered them up to him in your very presence and he never questioned being with you for a second. There was no hesitation as he rejected them. You were his soulmate, his forever partner, his best friend and all you could think as you stared at him is that you couldn’t have asked for a better one to call yours.
“Thanks baby. I think they needed that.” you expressed your gratitude, reaching for Arvin’s hand. He took yours in his and squeezed it briefly, sending his love for you through his touch. “Anything for my girl.”

ೃ࿐ Bambi Eyes ೃ༄
Lee Bodecker x Reader (pt 1)
Summary: Lee knows he’s a bad man. It only makes it easier doing bad things to make her his good girl. 18+ minors scurry off!!
Warnings: Dark Lee, Stalking, toxic relationships, age gap (reader 20, lee 40s), southern people (yes it’s a warning), mentions of death. Future smut: daddy kink, degradation kink, praise kink, spit kink
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lee knew he wasn’t a good man, but he had to pretend to be. Some knew of his dirty deeds, most didn’t but you…..it was as if you could see through his perfectly crafted image. As if those Bambi eyes saw into his guilty soul. Maybe you couldn’t see the bad man in him. Maybe he was just paranoid at the possibility of scaring you away. Either way though, Lee wanted you.
He wanted to hear your pretty laugh, he wanted your perfect baking, and he wanted to see you fall apart for him. You were always so sweet and graceful. Almost swanlike. But Lee desperately wanted to see your pretty eyes spill with tears of pleasure. Tears that he caused. See your cute mouth struggle to find words as he forces orgasm after orgasm out of your pretty body.
Lee knew pretty things like you didn’t last long in knockemstiff, women either raising babies, workin’ the street, or found dead. He wondered what you’d look like as his little housewife. You standing at the door with his meal ready and a baby in your belly, though something about your focus being on a child rubbed him the wrong way. No, Lee knew you were meant for more than the three types of women that this town allowed. No babies, no men ready to pay, and definitely not dead in an unsolved case file.
No, you were meant to be his. His to love, his to fuck, and his to spoil. Lee may not be a good man but you, one way or another, were gonna be his good girl.

- “is there a reason you’re blushin’ like that?” Sandy had questioned in an attempt to draw you out of your dreamy haze. - “just hot is all San” you lied. No truth was you found yourself eyeing your coworker and friends older brother. Way older.
Lee often came into the dinner on Thursday, always an hour after closing, but today he was thirty minutes late. You’d felt disappointed thinking he wouldn’t come in tonight until you heard the little ding from the door and his heavy sigh. Immediately you felt relaxed, as if all worry had left as soon as those blue eyes connected with yours.
Yes you’d had a little crush on the older man for reasons you couldn’t understand. Aunt Gill said the law of this town was corrupt and had always wanted you to stay away from the politics surrounding it, always telling you of how those men payed good money and even killed just for a little taste of power. Why would anyone kill for any kinda position in this town? Though even with her warnings you couldn’t look away. What if he was an exception? He rarely ever smiled but he always spoke to you with more respect than any other man and he tipped well too.
You watched as he made his way to his usual spot, you already cutting a piece of his favorite cherry pie. - “ just take Lee his pie and head home, girly. Don’t want ya to be late for Arvin tomorrow” Sandy said with a wink.
Oh. Oh yeah, Arvin. You’d been so consumed with what could possibly have kept Lee busy that you’d completely forgotten about your plans with Arvin tomorrow. He was a sweet boy who’d shown interest in your for a while now and he was actually your age, so when he’d nervously asked you on a date, of course you said yes.
You brushed off your hands onto the apron around your waist as you made your way over to Lee as a nervous quirk.
- “ Evening’ Sheriff. I’m glad you could still make it tonight” you said with a little smile. Genuinely happy to see him.
God that angelic smile almost broke Lee right there. - “ Sorry angel, got held back with a case. Preacher was found shot dead.”
Lee didn’t often tell you the dark things he worked with. He didn’t want to hurt your little heart…but sometimes he found a sick joy in seeing your babydoll eyes widen with fear. Fear of the dark world surrounding you. Lee wouldn’t let that world hurt you, no he did everything in his power to keep that darkness out, with the exception of himself.
- “oh gosh, Sheriff. The pie ain’t good enough for you to come by after something as exhausting as that!”
The pie? Surely you didn’t think he came here every day for the pie you didn’t even make? - “what makes you think i come here for the pie, babydoll?” Lee smirked as he watched your face heat up at his tone.
- “I-I just figured….figured ya know cause Sandy m-makes the pie and ya know…” he watched you mumble as you played with the hem of your uniform. Cute he thought. So fucking cute.
- “no, sweetheart. Gotta make sure my sis is treating my best girl right, don’t i?”
Your swear you heart beat broke some kind of record at his comment. You weren’t sure what to say but you knew you wanted him to continue.
- “ Lee let the girl go home!” His sister shouted as she made her way around the counter. - “you’ve kept her long enough. Y/n, honey you head home now, alright?” Sandy said as she handed you your little bag, almost pushing you out the door.
- “o-oh of course. Good night San. Good night Sheriff!” You called as you made your way out but not without hearing him say a ‘goodnight babydoll’ back.
You found yourself thinking about his comment the whole walk home and even into the night.
His best girl.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
- “you stay away from that girl, Lee.” His sister hissed with a finger pointed in his direction. - “ she’s got a good life ahead of her and she doesn’t need your issues gettin’ In the way.”
- “my issues” he scoffed. “My issue is the fact that rumor says my sister is out there whorin’ around! I don’t need you fuckin’ up this election for me Sandy.” He said standing up obviously pissed at her mentioning you.
- “their just rumors lee…and of course you’d bring that up when we’re talking about you. You’ve been drinkin’ again haven’t you? That why you’re obsessed with this girl?” She pushed.
- “ M’not obsessed. She’s sweet and why can’t I be interested in her? I deserve a life outside of pickin’ up your messes, Sandy!”
Sandy loved her brother. But she knew. She knew of his control issues. She knew of his drives past your little house and that he only showed up to the diner on nights you worked.
- “Well it doesn’t matter what you think you deserve when it comes to her Lee. You know why? Cause shes got a date with that Russell boy tomorrow. So you stay away and let her live free from your bullshit” Sandy snarled as she poked his chest.
Lee saw red. Arvin Russel? She thought he was more fucked up than that kid? Hell he figured the man behind the murder of that shifty preacher was Arvin. Like hell he’d let his angel go on a date with that kid. Lee was sure that kid wouldn’t even know how to please you right. He wouldn’t treat you like a princess and definitely wouldn’t make you cum as hard as he could.
Lee knew his sister and Arvin were just obstacles in his way. They wouldn’t be able to stop him from making you his.
- “ go home lee. It’s way past closing and I’m tired” Sandy mumbled as she pulled at her face.
- “Fine…just keep whatever shit you’re doin’…just keep it down. This rumor is the last thing I need.” He said as he laid down her change.
Lee made his way out to his car, still seething at the thought of his girl going out with someone who wasn’t him. He’d make his usual stop by your house tonight, make sure his angel was okay and safe even if he was slightly frustrated with your stupid decision.
No this is my fault.
If he’d have just claimed you as his already than this wouldn’t have happened. But he needed things to be perfect. He needed to get past this election and get Sandy off his back. Then you’d be his. His to love, his to fuck, and his to spoil. You’d be his, and only his. You be his perfect good little girl.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
- “Darlin’ here please take my jacket” Arvin pleaded. You were shaking like a leaf and it was killing him. -“ you’ll get sick and I’ll no choice but to nurse you myself”
Arvin taking care of you didn’t sound too bad. He’d been nothing but a gentleman so far. You’d wanted something simple, so you both had decided on getting some shakes. Well…something simple just wasn’t enough as the two of you had ended up getting lost in conversation. He told you about his mother and father and you told him about your life in the city. - “I don’t think that stigma is true ya know? Of city girls bein’ hard to please. You’re truly the sweetest thing I’ve ever met y/n.”
Hard to please.
- “I think you’re a real sweetheart too, Arvin.” You’d said and meant it. You enjoyed your time with the boy but couldn’t shake off that he was hiding something. He had a harsh life, his father had exposed him to traumatic things early on and with his Sisters passing recently, you bet you’d be a bit standoffish too.
The stars had already made an appearance in the sky, signaling it was time for you to head home to Gill.
- “y/n I was thinkn’…..well I’m askn’ if I could kiss you?” Arvin mumbled as he played with your smaller hands.
Did you want him to kiss you? Did you have romantic feelings for Arvin? There couldn’t be much harm in kissing him, you decided. So without an answer you stood on the tips of your toes and kissed him. He tasted nice, like the birthday cake shake he’d had not long ago. He seemed stunned at first, but after a few seconds he started to kiss back. His hands slowly rubbed down your arms and you found yourself wanting more.
Though just as the pace picked up, Arvin stiffened.
- “Arvin, honey what’s wrong?” You pulled away, searching his eyes. He was looking behind you, hands tightly gripping your arms.
Confused as to what could possibly cause him to stop, you turned only to see what looked to be trees and an empty cop car. It frustrated you. Why was he being so odd?
- “well….uh..t-thank you for the evening, Arvin. I really enjoyed it.” You mumbled as you pulled away from him. Arvin still continued to stare, as if a ghost had stolen his attention, until it finally allowed him to place his eyes back on you.
- “good night y/n.” He muttered already turning back to head to his truck. Did he not enjoy the kiss? Had you done something wrong? His odd response had caused you to question yourself.
And he wasn’t even willing to drive you home.
You watched his back as he disappeared down the dark street. Willing the tears in your eyes to not make it down your face. Though you must’ve not tried hard enough.
- “asshole” you sobbed. You felt pathetic as you stood in the middle of your empty town. Gill was going to kill him when you explained to her why you came home with tears in your eyes and dirt staining your pretty white heals.
Be a big girl y/n.
You wiped the salty tears on the sleeve of his jacket that you still had on. The realization only made you cry harder. You didn’t even care that you were scuffing the shoes you’d saved up for, as you trudged your way home.
Lost in your pool of self loath, you’d yet to hear the car making its way past you as you neared the edge of the downtown street.
- “Sweetheart? Whatcha doin’ out here so late?“
Oh god.
The sound of his voice only caused you to burst into tears again. Of course your luck would have it were Lee Bodecker saw you as a crying mess right after you had your heart broken.
You’d heard the slam of his door but couldn’t see anything through your cloud of tears. Not until you felt his hands grab your face and gently do his best to rub them away. - “babydoll ima need you to tell me what happen- and who’s jacket is this? He cut himself off with his own question as he harshly pulled the jacket off your arms. You didn’t mind though, as the leather jacket rubbing against your skin only reminded you of the odd encounter you just had.
- “lee..please…” you mumbled as you looked up into his furious blue eyes - “ please just take me home…”
Lee knew he was selfish…but you’d asked him to take you home. You just didn’t know it would be your new home. You would forgive him eventually. He’d have to figure out a way to keep your disappearance quiet, maybe turn it on that fucking Russell kid, but he’d sort that out later.
For now all he needed to do was take his girl home…to her rightful home.

“Hold on a minute, Arvin. My friend is coming.” Lenora said as she climbed into her brothers car.
“Friend? What friend?”
“It’s just Y/n.”
“I never heard that name before.” Arvin frowned.
“She’s a new friend. And you don’t I don’t make a lot of em so you better be nice to her.” Lenora warned.
“I will.” Arvin held up his hands in defense.
“There she is. Act normal.” Lenora ordered as you came out of the school.
“I said I would.” Arvin rolled his eyes and looked out the window to see who Lenora was looking at. When he saw you walking towards his car, he did a double take.
“That’s your friend?”
“Yeah. Why?” Lenora asked as Arvin got out of the car. “Where are you going?“
Arvin practically ran around the car, tripping over his feet as he went. He opened the back door for you just as you reached the car.
“Let me get that for you, sweetheart.” He smiled and stepped to the side.
“Oh. Thank you.“ You smiled in surprise.
“I’m Arvin.” He said and held out his hand.
“I’m Y/n. Hope you don’t mind an extra passenger in your car.” You replied as you shook his hand.
“Don’t mind at all. Bout time my backseats saw a little action.”
“Oh?“ You raised an eyebrow.
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Arvin said quickly. “Lenora just always sits in the front seat.”
“I figured.” You chuckled and got into the car. Arvin shut his eyes in embarrassment before climbing back into the drivers seat.
“I told you be normal.” Lenora whispered harshly.
“I am!” He whispered back.
“No you’re not!”
“Lenora, did you catch what Mrs. Harper said about the arithmetic homework? I couldn’t hear her.” You asked from the backseat.
“She said she just have to do questions one through ten.” Lenora answered as Arvin began to drive away.
“Okay. Wanna do em together?” Lenora asked as she turned around in her seat.
“Yeah. Let’s do em together.”
“Why don’t you do five and Y/n do five and then you just copy each other’s answers?” Arvin suggested.
“We can’t do that.” You laughed like it was ridiculous to even suggest.
“Why not?” Arvin wondered.
“Because thats cheating.”
Arvin looked at you in the rearview mirror to see if you were being serious and smiled when he saw that you were. He was always a bad student and found it endearing that you were a good one.
“It’s hardly cheating.” Arvin shrugged. “You’re still doing half the questions. And you were gonna do em together anyway.”
“Arvin.” Lenora hissed and hit his arm.
“What? I’m just saying.”
“Stop it.” She whispered and flicked her eyes towards you in the backseat. She thought Arvin was embarrassing her, but you were actually enjoying the conversation.
“For your information, Arvin, I do not cheat. Not even hardly.” You said as you playfully smiled at him in the rearview mirror.
“Wow. You must be a goody two shoes then, huh?” Arvin asked you.
“Arvin.” Lenora said warningly.
“So what if I am?” You asked as you looked at him through your eyelashes.
“Nothings wrong with that.” Arvin shrugged. “Just can’t say the same for myself.”
“Arvin got in a lot of fights at school.” Lenora spoke up to change the subject.
“Did you?” You laughed in surprise.
“Only when something was worth fighting for.” Arvin smirked at you in the mirror.
“Did you always win?” You asked him.
“I won the ones that mattered.”
“Interesting.” You said as you held eye contact with each other in the mirror. Lenora looked back and forth between the two of you and gagged a little.
“We’re here. Let’s go, Y/n.” She said as Arvin pulled up to the house. Lenora immediately got out of the car and opened your door for you before Arvin got a chance.
“Thanks for the ride, Arvin.” You called as Lenora pulled you by the hand towards her house.
“Anytime.” He shouted back. He went in the house shortly after the two of you did but Lenora had already taken you to her room. He went on with his day and did his chores around the house but he could not stop thinking about you. He knew it was wrong to have feelings for his sisters friend, but you were making it hard not to. He was thinking of how to get to know you better when he heard a scream from Lenora’s room. He immediately ran to her room and burst through the door.
“What? What’s wrong?” He asked his sister.
“There’s a rat!” Lenora screamed.
“A rat?” Arvin asked just as the creature ran across the room.
“AHHH!” Lenora screamed again. “Arvin, kill it.”
“Where did it go?” He asked as he grabbed a broom from the corner of the room. Arvin noticed you slip out the bedroom door but before he could ask where you were going, Lenora screamed again.
“It’s In the corner. Get it!” Lenora cried.
“Wait!” You said as he ran back into the room. Arvin took a step back as you knelt down in front of the mouse.
“Come here.” You said in a sweet voice as you waved a small leaf in front of the mouse. The mouse sniffed the air before scurried towards you. You gently scooped it up in your hands and stood up.
“How did you do that?“ Arvin asked in disbelief.
“It’s not a rat. Just a field mouse. They only come inside when they eat all the plants outside. I can take him back to my house and release him there. There’s lots of plants for him to eat on my lawn.” You explained. Arvin watched you with soft eyes as you stroked the mouses head with your finger.
“Wow. You’re really smart, darling.” Arvin said as he walked over to you.
“Thanks. I just love animals. Wouldn’t want to see him get hurt.” You smiled as you opened your hands a little so you could show him the mouse. Arvin was too busy admiring you to look down at the mouse. He knew he had only just met you, but he was already smitten.
That Sunday, Arvin was dragging his feet as the rest of his family got ready for church. He never liked going, but he went to make Lenora happy.
“Come on, Arvin. We’re gonna be late.” Lenora urged as he parked in the church parking lot. He rolled his eyes a little as he got out of the car and followed his sister inside. Just as he zoned out, he saw you walking towards him. He quickly sat up and smoothed his hair as you sat beside him.
“Hi darling.” He whispered. “I didn’t know you go to this Parrish.”
“I don’t.” You whispered back.
“Oh really? Stalking me then, darling?”
“I’m just teasing.” You smiled. “I run the church day care on Sundays. I’m usually in the back reading to the young kids during mass.”
“Wow. Aren’t you a little saint?” He smirked and turned in his seat to get a better look at you.
“Better to be a saint then a sinner.” You shrugged, making his smile grow.
“Maybe so.”
“I better get back to the kids. Good to see you, Arvin.” You patted his knee and went to stand up.
“Darling, wait.” He gently caught you by the wrist.
“Yes?”
“Can I come see the daycare?” He asked as fellow churchgoers gave you annoyed looks.
“Really? You want to?”
“Sure I do. I don’t need to sit through the homily. I know the ending.” He said as he nodded towards a Bible. You laughed at his joke before nodding your head.
“Come on. I’ll show you.” You took his hand and brought him back to the daycare. Arvin blushed at you holding his hand and followed you out to a building behind the church.
“Hi kids. I’m back and I brought a visitor.” You said when you opened the door. All the kids rushed to you as Arvin hung back.
“Look what I drew Miss Y/n!” A little boy said as he showed you his drawing.
“You drew this? This looks like you got it out of a museum.” You gasped as you wrapped your arm around the bot. Arvin was delighted to see that you were just as good with kids as you were with animals.
“Thank you.” The boy smiled shyly. You let go of the boy and hung the drawing up on the wall.
“You’re good with kids.” Arvin remarked as he joined your side.
“Thanks.” You smiled at him. “I try to be. I love looking after ‘em.”
“Spider!” One of the kids screamed before Arvin could respond. All the kids started screaming and the room erupted into chaos. You gave Arvin an apologetic smile before going over to the kids.
“I got it.” You assured them. You picked up a cup of colored pencils and dumped it out before showing the kids the cup. You put the cup over the spider before sliding a piece of paper under the cup. The kids watched with fascination as you brought the cup over to the window. Arvin opened the window for you, earning another smile. You put the cup outside the window and let the spider out on a bush.
“There you go, Mr. Spider.” You said before shutting the window. “Gather around, kids. Come look at the spider.”
All the kids ran to the window to get a look at the spider. Their fear melted into excitement as they looked at the creature.
“See? You don’t have to be scared. All God’s creatures serve a purpose. Even the small ones matter.” You told them, always taking the opportunity to teach a lesson. You caught Arvin staring at you fondly and waved him over.
“Did you want to see?” You asked and pointed to the spider.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m looking.” Arvin replied, never taking his eyes off of you.
The following week, Arvin was driving home from work when he spotted you through his window. You were holding yourself and walking home, your body language suggesting that you were far from okay. He slowed down so that he could drive along the side of you and rolled his window down.
“Darling? Is that you?” He shouted out the window. You looked over to see who the voice belonged to and gulped when you realized it was Arvin.
“No.” You replied before walking faster. Arvin sped up to match your pace before calling out to you again.
“I know it’s you. Come here.”
“I’m okay. Just keep driving.” You said as you turned your face so he couldn’t see you.
“I’m not leaving ‘till you come here and talk to me.” He replied. You stopped walking and sighed a little before walking over to his car. When you got closer, Arvin finally saw why you were upset. Your nose was bleeding and he could see a bruise forming around your eye. Your messed up hair and busted knuckles only further proved Arvins forming theory that you had gotten in a fight.
“What happened to you?” He asked as he put his car into park and quickly got out. He immediately ran to you and cupped your face to see the extent of your injuries.
“Nothing.” You said and gave him a weak, bloody smile.
“You’re bleeding. Something must have happened.” He sighed as his eyes filled his concern.
“I fell.”
“Into what? A wood chipper?” Arvin asked, making your shoulders shake with laughter.
“Good. Glad to see you smiling again.” Arvin smiled as he smoothed your hair down. “Now can you get in the car please?”
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“I am worried. And you’re not fine. So get in.” Arvin said. You sighed a little before complying. Arvin opened the door for you and helped you in. Once you were both seated, Arvin went into his glove box and pulled out a handkerchief.
“Here. For you nose.” He said as he held it out to you.
“Thanks.” You smiled sheepishly and held the handkerchief up to your bleeding nose.
“Do you want to tell me what happened?” Arvin kept his eyes on you as he drove away.
“No.” You said quietly.
“Okay.”
“Where are we going?” You asked after a beat of silence.
“Back to my house. Gotta get you cleaned up.”
“Really, Arvin, I’m fine. You can just drop me off at home.”
“Is anyone in your family home?”
“No. My parents are at work.”
“Well then can I at least stay with you? Don’t think you should be alone right now.” Arvin said as he looked over at you.
“Yeah.” You smiled softly. “You can stay.”
“Okay.” He returned the smile. “Just tell me where to go.”
You reached over and gave Arvins knee an appreciative squeeze to thank him for taking care of him. He listened to you as you directed him to your house and soon enough, he pulled into your driveway. Arvin parked and got out of the car to open the door for you.
“Thank you.” You gave him a weak smile as you got out of the car. Arvin kept a hand on your back as he helped you into your house.
“Where’s your bathroom?” He asked once you were inside.
“Down the hallway on the left.”
“Okay. Come with me.” Arvin said as he gently took you by the hand. He walked with you to your bathroom and opened the door for you once again.
“Sit.” He said as he nodded to the counter. He found your first aid kit beneath the sit as you jumped up on your counter. He got out a Cotten ball and soaked it in hydrogen peroxide. He gently took your chin between his fingers and tilted your chin up.
“Arvin-“
“Hush now. Your lip is bleeding.” He said as he dabbed them Cotten ball on your lip.
“You really don’t have to do this.”
“I said hush.” He repeated, making you crack a smile. He finished cleaning your lip and moved on to the cut above your eye.
“I can take care of myself. Honest. You should go home.” You told him as he carefully dabbed some Neosporin on your cut.
“I’m good right here.” He said as he opened up a bandaid.
“You don’t have to-“
“Hush.” He related as he tilted your face up again. He put the bandaid on your cut and smiled proudly at his work.
“You gonna tell me how this happened?” He asked as he cleaned the dried blood that had settled beneath your nose.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Don’t want you telling Lenora, that’s why.“
“Why? Thought you two were best friends.”
“We are. That’s why I don’t want her to know I was fighting.”
“You can tell me though, darling. I can keep a secret.”
“I don’t wanna tell you.” You said quietly as Arvin poured hydrogen peroxide on another Cotten ball.
“Why?” He wondered as he took your hand. “You know I’ve been in plenty of fights myself. I’m not one to judge.”
“Still.” You gave him an apologetic smile as he cleaned your bloody knuckles for you.
“Can I at least know who did this to you?” He asked as he got some gauze out of the first aid kit.
“Why? Are you gonna do something to them?” You teased. “Lenora told me what you did to those rascals that pick on her. Heard you left em with a couple broken noses.
“You heard right.” Arvin smirked. “And I’d do the same to whoever did this to you.”
“You can’t. It was just some dumb girls in my class.” You said as Arvin wrapped your hand with the bandage.
“Why did they do this to you?” He asked you. You gave him an embarrassed look before looking away.
“What?” He wondered.
“I started the fight.” You admitted as a smile tugged at your lips.
“Yeah?” He raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Why’d you fight em?”
“Cant tell you that.” You shrugged, liking that he was so intrigued.
“You can tell me, doll.” He whined. “I won’t judge. Promise.”
“Promise?” You raised an eyebrow and held out your pinky.
“Promise.” He smiled and linked his pinky through yours.
“They were making fun of Lenora.” You admitted. “They’re always making fun of Lenora. One of the girls pushed her so I pushed the girl back and told Lenora to run.”
“And then you….” Arvin trailed off so you could finish your story.
“And then I beat those bitches up.” You shrugged, making Arvin burst out laughing.
“Darling.” He said through his laughter.
“Somebody had to it.” You insisted. “They’ve been cruising for a bruising all year.”
“You did this for my sister?” Arvin asked as he held up your bandaged hand.
“Some things are worth fighting for.” You replied, using his words from the day you met. Arvin smiled softly before bringing your hand up to his lips to kiss your knuckles.
“And here I was thinking you wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“I would if the fly was being mean to you sister.” You said simply.
“Well I appreciate you doing that, doll.” He said as he held your gaze. “Means a lot to me.”
“Well your sister means a lot to me. She’s the greatest friend I ever had. I wish those other girls could see how great she is. Not that they’re gonna be able to see anything for a while. Left em with some lovely black eyes.” You smirked as Arvin held your hand against his chest. You could feel his heart pounding and pretended not to notice.
“I bet.” Arvin chuckled. “How do your knuckles feel?”
“Pretty sore.”
“I know. Trust me, I’ve busted mine a hundred times. It’ll get better.” Arvin said as he showed you his permanently red knuckles. You took his hand and looked at his knuckles while gently running your thumb over them. He blushed under your touch while you wondered just how many fights he had been in.
“Thanks for patching me up, Arvin.” You said as you looked up at home without ever dropping his hand.
“Thanks for defending my sister.” He said with a smile. You flexed your hand a little as you checked out the bandaging.
“You know, they feel better already.” You told Arvin as he leaned on the counter, an arm on either side of you.
“Yeah? How does your lip feel?” Arvin asked as he tilted your chin up with his pinky.
“Still hurts.” You said as your eyes flickered between his lips and his soft brown eyes. Arvin gulped a little before closing the gap between you and kissing you softly. He could taste blood in his mouth but he didn’t care, choosing to deepen the kiss instead.
“How about now?” Arvin asked when he pulled away.
“A little better.” You smiled as you pulled him by the shirt down into another kiss. It lasted longer this time as Arvin cupped your face with his rough hands.
“And now?” He whispered against your lips.
“It actually really hurts now. I think you opened the cut.” You touched and touched your fingertips to your bleeding lip.
“Yeah. Let me get that.” He grimaced and dabbed the blood away with a clean Cotten ball.
“Why don’t we wait a couple days until my lip heals and then try that again?” You suggested as Arvin tucked some of your hair behind your ear.
“Sounds good to me, doll.” Arvin smiled. “Some things are worth the wait.”

Your walking through the hallways after school to get to your locker, Arvin Russel normally picks you and his sister, Lenora up but running late because of work.
As you collect your books into your bag, it seems strange because usually Lenora comes running at you beaming with some particular interest of hers.
Maybe she had to go to the bathroom? Or left something in a classroom? That girl is awfully forgetful with her belongings you thought giggling.
Meanwhile, Lenora had some trouble on her hands as usual (a group of no good sons of Bitches as Arvin likes to call them) decided that it was a great idea to bully an innocent girl.
Lenora is sweet and kind, humble at what she has got. You don’t need no big, fancy things when you got a lot of love in the house. Unfortunately, people normally stay away from her because apparently rumour has it, she is a curse.
That is a far from the truth that is why, when you came to town you immediately, friends with the sweet girl! Thinking so much of her, being best friends is great. Especially when you help each other out and talk all day.
“Oh, look who it is boys,” Tommy Matson smirked, he stood from leaning to walking over to Lenora, “Hey, pretty girl,” he teased.
“Disgusting, don’t call me that from your vile mouth,” Lenora whispers the last part, too shy to stand up to her bullies.
“Walking away, are we?” Tommy whistles, “You know you would be pretty, if you weren’t such a freak!” He slams his hand against a garbage can, making Lenora scared she tryed to run off but it was no use.
“Get off me,” Lenora screeched, kicking her legs at the boy, “What is your momma going to say?”
Tommy, still holding her wrist, “hurts, let go!” Lenora whimpers at his strong grip.
“My momma ain’t gonna say shit, I don’t need to answer to you!” Tommy scowled, pulling her closer to his face to hush in her face, “hush now because Your a freak,”
“Properly made a pack with the devil,” Another boy joked, all his “friends” laughing along.
Just as things could be more abusive, you come rushing out the doors. You was looking around where Lenora could of been because your worried at how you haven’t seen her yet.
You gasped, as you open the large, brown doors to see stupid Tommy bullying her with other boys.
“Hey, get off her! You no good son of a bitch,” You storm your way over, Tommy didn’t even have a chance to speak before you grabbed his wrist from Lenora’s, “You don’t touch her, You should know better with that dumb brain of yours!”
“Y/N, another pretty girl! Why hang around with that freak if you can have all this,” Tommy explained trying to flirt, smirking.
you ignored him scoffing, kicking his knee. He dropped on the floor as he cried out.
“You slut, you will pay for this,” He shouted, pointing at you.
Paying your attention to the frighten Lenora, poor girl you step closer to her. “Come, let’s get out of here before they try something worse.” You whisper, as Tommy is dumbfounded by his so called “friends” laughing at him.
You and Lenora try to make a run for it without them noticing it but luck isn’t on your side today.
“You got your ass kicked by a girl,” Billy laughed, Chucky coming up behind him slapping Tommy’s back, “Yh, you definitely did! It was hilarious,”
“Hey, they’re trying to run away!” Billy told, “Well, what are you waiting for! Get them, you Idiots,” Tommy, grumbled out very loudly getting up as quick as he can.
“Lenora, it’s going to be ok! Let’s just keep running,” You tried to comfort her, she had a few tears in her eyes, until you feel a boy grab your wrist pushing you on the floor.
“Thinking you can get away from me, S/N,” Tommy tutted, Lenora wrists were grabbed by Billy and Chuck, “Yh we got you now!”
You quickly, stood up Tommy grabbed your waist squeezing it. Most likely leaving a mark of his attack, “Let go, or else!” You threatened hissing at him and the pain, looking pasted his head to see Lenora being pushed around by the other two boys.
You had to help Lenora so you had to be strong, plan this out carefully. “What is a weak girl like you? Going to do to me, HUH?” he chuckled, throwing you back to the floor. You hissed at your side, probably going to leave another bruise.
“A lot more than you think, you bitch!” You grunted, Tommy was going to make his way over to Lenora. You hopped on your feet again, running right into Him and pushing him really hard on the floor.
You grabbed Billy yanking him on the floor too, with a big crash sound of dirt. “Ow, you Bitch,”
Chuck being a pussy, running off in the other direction just before you had time to yank him on the floor. You may be in pain but you had to help Lenora out, first!
“Oh, My! Are you ok,” You help Lenora up, her knee was a bit bruised, “Yh, I’m fine thanks,”
“Oh, for fuck sake!” You see Tommy standing up, “Lenora you need to run, right now! I don’t care about me, I’ll handle him but RUN!” You look her in the eye, deadly serious.
Luckily, Billy is still on the ground yelping. Lenora nodded and ran, seeing Arvin’s car just about to pull up.
You quickly, grabbed Tommy’s fist that he was about to punch you with. You kick him in the stomach, taking off your bag and swinging it so that as it hits him he falls down, you fell down too hitting your knee.
“Son of a bitch,” you mumble.
seeing Tommy hovering over on the floor, you grab your bag and make a run for it with your bleeding knee. You couldn’t really see it because of your tights but you could definitely feel the blood trickling down.
Running for her dear life to her brother’s car, Arvin let out smoke from his mouth. Having Scolding hot, mean face on him as he sees Lenora running and You right behind her.
“Fuck,” Arvin let go as Lenora opened the back door, breathing heavily, “Are you ok, what happened!” He questioned just as you got in with her too.
“Never mind that just drive, Arvin,” You breathed out, looking at Tommy still on the floor but mostly going to move any moment.
Arvin actually listened Stepping on the Gas, “I bet it’s those no good sons of bitches isn’t it?” He scowled as he drags his cigarette out.
“Lenora,” You whisper, “it’s ok, they are gone!” You comforted her as she leans into you for a hug, “Yh, but we are fine! I hope,” you talking to Arvin pausing to think, “They we’re bullying Lenora. I stepped in to help her,”
“Yh, without Y/N I properly be beaten up,” Lenora whimpers out of fear, “Thank you,” she whispers, with tears in her eyes again giving you a small smile.
“It’s ok, no need to say thank you! Lenora, I’m your best friend, friends are there to protect friends!” You smile at her, she giggles, “Yh your the best!”
“Hush, I’m not that great! Your better,” You wink teasing her, lightening up the mood.
“Tch, those no good Hillbilly’s I’ll get the lot of them! They think it’s alright to bully people, especially women!” Arvin muttered, mostly to himself gripping the wheel tighter but you heard it giving him a sweet, toothy smile.
Arvin Russel the boy who was they call a devil, apparently cursed too! He acted tough but actually he had a sweet spot for you and his sister. That is all he ever want in life, to protect you and her.
“I appreciate you looking out for Lenora, Y/N,” Arvin actually gives you a smile, it was sweet never seen before to you until today. He admired you from a far, since the first time you protected his sister, he admires you more always.
“It was no, big deal Arvin,” You shyly said, putting your hair behind your ear, he nodded adjusting his cap.
“Why are you shy now! Mm,” Lenora shifted her shoulders towards you as she teases, “You had no trouble speaking clearly to those bullies, unless…”
You squinted your eyes at her, luckily Arvin isn’t taking any notice of her attics towards you.
“Lenora, no,” You hissed at her to cover up the pain you was in because you couldn’t say you were in pain.
“Well, I’m just telling! I can see it,” Lenora takes her hand, pointing to Arvin. You take her hand down and slapped your forehead, “Are you gonna stop, if I admit it?” You questioned, giggling.
Your side really hurts but you can’t let them know because that’s embarrassing. The bully threw you a bit too hard on the floor as you hoped.
“Maybe,” Lenora smirked, waving as she wiggles her fingers, “Oh, my right well change of subject! Are you hurt anywhere?”
Arvin pulled up at their drive way, going take you home after dropping off Lenora is the usual plan after school.
“My side hurts a bit,” You nodded, “Oh, I remember I packed cool patches,” you give a couple of Lenora, “Here, for your side,” You smile.
“Thanks, wouldn’t know what I do without you,” Lenora smiled back, “Are you hurt too?” She worried about you too? You thought, how sweet! “No, no, it’s fine I’m not,” You smile hiding the pain, you could just clean yourself up after you get home anyway.
“I’m honestly ok, now you rested up poppet over the weekend,” You lie as you smile, hugging her a good bye as she waved getting out the car, “bye,” Lenora waved at Arvin too, one last time going into her house.
It’s easier if people don’t know your in the pain, you had to learn that the hard way in the past few years of living in the other town.
You breathed out slowly as you feel slightly dizzy, nothing much out of the ordinary you suppose.
You wonder why Arvin hasn’t started the car back up as you open your eyes you see Arvin right next to you on the back seat.
He is looking at you, there is something in his eyes.. worry? Maybe, I doubt it you thought.
“Hey, Are you ok? Darlin’,” Arvin softly asked, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you love,”
How did you not hear the door going? On the car as he left the front to the back. You must of been so hazy, only focusing on Arvin now.
You take a deep breath “I’m ok,” you shakily whispered, gulping as your heart beat going faster of how Arvin is so close to you.
Your lips could actually meet!
“No, please don’t lie, sweetheart,” Arvin shook is head, taking your soft hand into his slightly rough yet soft one making your breath hitch at the sudden contact, “A pretty girl like you shouldn’t have to hide their true feelings and I can tell you got hurt, Darlin’,”
You sigh looking up into Arvin’s chocolate, warm brown eyes they were normally, cold full of dark tones of brown.
“Your eyes are gorgeous,” You stutter, blinking tilting your head.
“Not as gorgeous as yours, Pretty girl!” He winks, Pretty girl came much better from his perfect, soft lips.
“May I,” Arvin asked suggesting to touch you, “yes,” you nodded, almost forgetting the pain.
Arvin brushes your hair behind your ear, cupping your jaw gently into his hand as he brings your face closer to his.
“You need help, I’m going to help you! Not only you protected my sister, your strong and beautiful girl, who I want to get to know because I already…” He cuts himself off, looking the other way as he ruffles his hair stilling holding your jaw gently.
You reached out your hand cupping his jaw gentle, making him look into you this time. Bringing him closer, you heard his breath hitch just like yours a moment ago.
“Arvin, you already what?” You whisper, giving a curious look to him, you lick your lips, “Fine, I will let you help me but what is it your going to say?” You gave him a real, genuine smile this time.
“I, I love you, Y/N,” Arvin smiled, “Please let me help you,” You can’t believe what your hearing, the boy that you been crushing on since you moved in town just confessed his feelings.
You are quite starstruck completely forgetting about your bruise sides or your bleeding knee. Never the less, you pull him into a sweet kiss to answer his question.
“I love you too, Arvin,” You look into his eyes again, smiling. He kisses you with his soft, delicious lips again drifting off into the clouds.
“I think we should go into the house and clean you up, Darlin’,” He whispers through kisses, you nod.
Arvin gets out of his car, opening your door and carefully standing you up. You wince at your side because of the bruises, they are quite fresh.
“It’s ok, love,” Arvin, steadies you as you stumble upon on your feet as you walk, “I got you, I got you,”
“Do you want me to lift you up? Sweetheart,” Arvin suggests, you shook your head, “I’m too heavy,” you mumble,
“No, your not love! Who put that stupid, crap into your head,” Arvin scoffed, “You are perfect, now please let me pick you up because you can hardly walk,”
You nod agreeing, Arvin wraps his arms around your waist to lift you up as you put your legs around him too.
“See not heavy,” He smiles, kissing your forehead.
You bury your head into the crook of his neck, smelling his delicious scent. Even if he has a hint of smokes on him, he still smells like vanilla and pine wood.
Luckily, Lenora is in her room and Arvin’s grandmother is in the kitchen too busy repairing dinner to hear the door going.
Arvin went upstairs with you, very quietly to make sure no one notice to keep things at least now private between you. He pop you down on his bed, “This is more comfortable than my bed,” you giggle, Arvin put your bag down near his draws.
“Oh is it?” Arvin nodded, “Im going to get the band aid kit for you love,” you nodded as he went. You sink down more into his bed, loving how soft it is, still your knee is bleeding but at least your getting a handsome guy to fix it.
Those pet names that Arvin gives you sends butterflies right down your stomach! Making you day dream to the clouds again, you look around his room. It’s actually pretty cosy, nice room to be in.
“Can you sit up, Darlin?” Arvin asked, closing the door, you nodded propping yourself up. You realised that you had tights on, “Can I take them off? To get to your knee, I can see it’s been bleeding under the material,” you loved how he explained himself, acting tough but in reality being shy around you.
“Yes, Arvin!” You smiled as he slides them off showing your bare legs, “This may sting love, you can squeeze my hand if it gets too much,” you take his other hand.
Your shirt rises a little bit, Just enough for Arvin to see your side bruises.
“Those god Damn Hillbilly’s are gonna be 12ft underground,” Arvin mumbles under his breath as he goes through the first aid box.
“Ouch,” you hiss, “Your doing so well, Darling” Arvin praised as he wipes your Graze with the aesthetic wipe.
Arvin places a plaster on your knee after he kisses it, “Do you feel better?” He asked, “Wait, you need a cooler pack for your bruises,” he remembered going back through the first aid box.
“Your too sweet,” You gasped at the coldness, “It’s cold,” You giggle, holding Arvin’s hand a bit tighter.
“Only sweet for you sweetheart,” Arvin winked at you, “I have something to ask you,”
“ok, shoot,” You smile, rubbing his hand looking into his eyes.
“Will you officially be my girl,” Arvin scratches the back of his neck, shyly as he asked you.
“Of course Arvin,” Arvin pulled you into a passionate kiss before you could say anything else, “Like sugar aren’t you!” You Smiled.
Arvin licks his lips, “Mm, not as much as you, Doll,” he stands up laying down on the bed with you.
“Thank you for cleaning me up,” You snuggle into him more as he wraps his arms around you, “Anytime, My love,” Arvin kisses your cheek, stroking your head.
“Sleep beautiful,” You hear him whisper into your ear as you drift off, too tired to keep your eyes open any longer.
Arvin pulls the covers over you, kissing you on the forehead just before he drifts off with you.

Arvin didn’t care much about his birthday, he never bothered planning any sort of celebration or party, he found it all unnecessary. He loved to celebrate your birthday though, and your anniversary, and Christmas, any opportunity to spoil you really. You liked spoiling him too, but he always appreciated the gesture much more than he cared about any of the actual gifts. He just wasn’t a very materialistic person, which is why this year you’d decided to give him an experience for this birthday instead of any physical object.
You would have loved to fly him to some exotic location and have some big romantic weekend, but you couldn’t afford anything like that. So you went with something much simpler, camping. One of your friends offered the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, it was secluded in the woods, perked on top of a large hill with a great view, and less than a mile from a massive lake. You were overjoyed with the find, and the same friend helped you make a list of everything you would need. You proposed the idea to Arvin and he was excited, spending the weekend alone with you was his ideal birthday really.
Although he was a little reluctant to let you plan the trip and pay for it, you wouldn’t budge on the matter, and he was forced to concede eventually. He did double check your packing list though, just to make sure you hadn’t missed anything essential. Once you were both sure you had everything you’d need you loaded it all into his car and headed out. It was about an hour drive, and it was a bit difficult to navigate the truck to the campsite, but the view was worth the effort. You were surrounded by a circle of trees, the forest was buzzing and everything smelled fresh. Below your campsite you could see the corner of the lake, and in the middle of the campsite there was a makeshift fire pit born from the hundreds of campers who had been there before you.
You attempted at first to unload the car and set up the tent yourself, insisting Arvin relax, but there was no way he’d let you do it all yourself. So you two put up your tent and piled your things inside. By the time you had your campsite all set up the sun was starting to set, and both of you were getting hungry. For your first night you’d decided to pre pack some sandwiches for dinner, so all you had to do was gather a bit of wood and start a fire. You two snuggled up next to each other in some folding lawn chairs while you ate and watched the sun go down.
“This is incredible,” Arvin hummed contently before he looked over at you, “You know I think this is already my best birthday ever.”
You flushed, “Well it’s not actually your birthday until tomorrow, but thank you. It’s really nice out here.”
“Yeah it is,” he agreed, tracing his hand over one of yours, “We should get out the s’mores before it gets too dark.”
“Don’t you wanna save those for tomorrow?” you frowned, “I mean I didn’t bring a cake or anything so that’s kind of our only dessert.”
“I’m sure we’ll have enough for tonight and tomorrow,” he hummed, “Plus it’s my birthday trip, I think I’m entitled to some s’mores if I want them.”
You rolled your eyes and pushed yourself out of your chair, “I’ll be right back.”
You returned with graham crackers, a bag of marshmallows, several Hershey’s bars, and some metal skewers you thought would be perfect to roast the marshmallows on.
“Yummy,” Arvin hummed, ripping into the marshmallows and throwing one into his mouth.
You carefully placed one of them on your skewer and dipped it into the fire, “They’re so much better roasted.”
“They’re delicious either way,” he said with a mouthful of marshmallow, making you crinkle your nose.
“It’s rude to speak with your mouth full Arvin,” you scolded playfully.
He laughed, “Oh I forgot, you fell in love with me for my good manners,” he placed another marshmallow onto his skewer and shoved it into the fire, “Did you ever tell ghost stories when you were little?”
You knit your brows as you tried to remember, “No, I don’t think so. There was rumor that one of the houses in town was haunted, but that’s the closest I can remember.”
He nodded, “Lenora and I used to tell them to each other,” his hand slipped over your leg, squeezing your thigh before he continued, “Not just when we were camping, but that always made them scarier. They’re so cheesy, I can’t believe I used to be scared of that shit…”
“That’s cute Arvin,” you laughed, “Do you remember any of them?”
He rubbed the back of his neck, “Uh, I don’t know, I haven’t thought about them in a long time.”
You pulled your marshmallow from the fire and began assembling your s’more, “Could you try and tell me one?”
“You wanna hear a cheesy ghost story?” he chuckled.
You nodded, “Of course, I like it well you tell stories, your voice is nice.”
He blushed and bit his cheek, “I suppose I probably remember enough…”
“Yay!” you cheered and leaned back in your chair, “Well get on with it.”
He let out a low hum as he pulled his burning marshmallow away from the fire. He blew it out, the marshmallow was nearly black, “It starts with this criminal, a murderer I think. I don’t remember exactly what happened to him but basically he loses his hand and it gets replaced with a hook. So he’s this hook handed killer, and he was always going after pretty young girls,” he glanced over at you, “It took years to catch him, and when they finally did they hung him. So he dies, but since his soul was so twisted it couldn’t rest properly, and he came back as a ghost. Now he wanders all over the country looking for more pretty young girls to kill. Oh!” he cracked a big smile, “And he especially likes girls with (y/h/c).”
You rolled your eyes, “I can’t believe that used to scare you.”
“That one didn’t scare me, it scared Lenora,” he defended, “I used to tell it better.”
Arvin kept trying to recall more and more details about the story while you finished your s’mores. You were almost certain that he was making it up just to try and scare you. You humored him, nodding along with whatever new details he added, laying your head on his shoulder while he talked. You two continued like that until the fire started to sizzle out. Arvin volunteered to fully extinguish it so you could get comfy in your makeshift bed.. Inside the tent you’d laid your sleeping bags on top of each other to provide a bit of padding and brought a pile of blankets to keep yourselves warm. You wanted the tent to be as comfortable as possible so you’d brought more than a fair share of blankets and pillows.
“Fires good,” Arvin promised as he crawled into the tent, zipping it closed behind him, “You look comfy.”
You smiled, “I’ll be comfier once you’re in here with me.”
“I’m coming,” he promised as he began stripping his clothes.
He got down to his boxers and crawled under the blankets beside you, “Ready for bed kitten?”
“I’m pretty tired,” you snuggled up to his chest.
“Me too,” he wrapped his arms around you and pressed his lips to the top of your head, “Thank you for planning this, I love you.”
“I love you too,” you cooed back.
He held you close to him until you fell asleep. Admittedly it was more difficult than normal, it was harder to drift off without your comfy mattress under you. Snuggling up to Arvin helped, but you already knew you wouldn’t be sleeping as deep as you normally would. Sure enough you found yourself waking up shortly after you drifted off, Arvin was already deep asleep, but you were suddenly uncomfortable. You rolled over so your back was against Arvin’s chest. He scooted closer to you and you closed your eyes in hopes of drifting off again.
When you fell asleep the second time you were able to fall deep enough into sleep that you started to dream. You would have hoped to have some sort of sweet dream about you and Arvin, instead you were struck with the hook man. In your dream he came stalking up to your tent, ripping it open and yanking you from the inside. Luckily you were woken up before anything too gruesome could happen, the sounds of the wind grazing your tent had drawn you back to reality. Arvin was still sleeping soundly, his face buried in your neck, his lips placed against your bare skin. His tight grip helped to relax you after the bad dream. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes, sinking back into him with a smile. The adrenaline started to die down and your pounding heart relaxed.
Until the wind picked up again. This time it was more than just the wind, you heard some sort of awful, high pitched screeching that made your skin crawl. Arvin stirred but didn’t wake up. You sank under the blankets, pulling them up to your eyes, which were darting rapidly around the tent. The screeching sounded again, you tried to calm yourself but your mind was already getting irrational. Really you knew it was just a stray branch or the car, but you couldn’t help picturing the hook man from your dreams. Stalking you outside the tent, running his hook over the car, getting ready to tear you away from Arvin and murder you.
With a small squeal you flipped to face Arvin again, “Arvin,” at first your voice was quiet, still unsure if you wanted to wake him, “Arvin,” this time you were a little louder, pushing against his chest, “Arvin!” you snapped suddenly, just in time for the wind to pick up once more.
He groaned, reaching up to rub one of his eyes before he opened it, “Something wrong baby?”
Your cheeks flushed, suddenly feeling embarrassed that you’d woken him up, “I, uh, I had this kind of weird dream.”
His lips tugged to a frown, “What about?”
“The hookman…” you uttered shamefully.
He smiled and started to chuckle, “Really?”
“Yes!” you fell onto your back dramatically, “Then I woke up and I started hearing this screechy sound, it's freaking me out.”
“I’m sorry baby, I’m sure it was just a tree or something though,” he wrapped his arm around your middle and pressed his lips to your ear, “Or an owl, or anything. We’re in the woods, there are weird noises sometimes.”
“I know,” you groaned, “It’s just nerves.”
He nodded and moved right up next to you, “Well just come here. I promise it was normal forest noises, but if it was a hookman, I would protect you. You’ve got nothing to worry about, you’re always safe with me.”
You snuggled back to his chest, wanting to feel him close again, “Promise?”
“Course, I don’t care if it’s the hookman or the devil himself,” he mumbled against your forehead, “I wouldn’t let anyone hurt you, I love you too much for that.”
“I love you too Arvin,” your cheeks flushed and you smiled, “It’s probably after midnight now.”
“You think so?”
You nodded, “Yeah, so happy birthday.”
“Mmm, thank you baby,” he yawned and leaned in for a quick kiss, “I’m about to pass out again, but you can wake me up if you need me.”
“Of course, thank you hunny,” you cooed sweetly, “You always know just what to say.”
He said nothing, simply pressing his lips to your head again before sleep overtook him.

happy 7k val! could you write a little something about arvin never really initiating any physical touch with the reader bc he’s worried she’s scared of him or thinks he’d hurt her (bc he’s always being told he’s violent) so it’s kinda angsty but reader assures him she trusts him and want him to touch her </3

it’s date night, and you and arvin are at a drive-in movie. you’re sipping a soda, sitting with your feet up on the dashboard. arvin loves you so much that he doesn’t even mind. you watch the screen in front of you, engaged in the movie. arvin is having trouble staying focused. he’s been stealing glances at you the whole movie, inching closer and reaching out to touch you, but something always stops him.
you offer arvin your soda. he smiles.
“thanks, darlin’.”
“course, arv.”
arvin takes the cup and drinks. you scoot towards him, returning his smile. it’s the perfect opportunity for him to make a move. but instead, he hands you back your soda and shifts his attention to the movie. your smile fades to a frown. you put down the soda and lower the radio that’s playing the movie audio.
“what’d you do that for? it was just gettin’ good!”
“why won’t you touch me?”
arvin doesn’t answer.
“i know you want to. i keep seeing you about to, and then you just don’t. ‘s not just tonight either. you do it all the time.”
arvin turns and faces forward, gaze downcast. his throat tightens as he swallows thickly.
“i’m scared.”
“scared of what?”
“that i’ll hurt you. sometimes i don’t know my own strength. y’know i’m always gettin’ into fights, and folks are scared of me.”
he looks up at you.
“don’t want you to be scared of me, too.”
your hand finds arvin’s, fingers lacing together. his expression is a mix of nerves and excitement.
“i could never be scared of you, arvin. i like that you’re strong and all. makes me feel safe. you make me feel safe.”
those words are the biggest relief to hear. there’s been a constant battle in arvin’s mind, whether or not to touch you, or if you want him to, and the war has finally ended.
“thank you. i love you.”
“i love you, too.”
“alright if i kiss you?”
“more than.”
with that, arvin captures your lips in a sweet kiss. you smile into it, savor it. it’s rare the two of you share kisses.
you cuddle into arvin’s side. this time, he doesn’t shy away from you.
“what is it boys do when they take a girl to the movies? the arm thing?”
“you mean this?”
you put arvin’s arm around your shoulders. he settles his hand on your shoulder, fingers running up and down. you lay your head on his arm. he sighs contentedly.
“yeah, this.”

okay we all know arvin has nightmares but what does he do when YOU have nightmares?
ughhhghghgh. he panics at first, to be honest. hasn't had to deal with anyone else but himself since lenora died. but when you're the most trembling, screaming in your sleep, his first thoughts are sacrifice. which is silly -- it's not like he can insert himself into your dreams to ward off whatever monsters are terrorizing you, but he holds you close to his chest tight enough that you could probably feel his rapidly beating heart. and when you awaken, god, he doesn't even let you slip back into the ghost of your nightmare. you don't see the demons that were consuming you, but big, amber-brown eyes wide and pleading. he's got his arms around you so tightly that your nose is on his collarbone smelling the woodsy remnants of yesterday's cologne. the sound of his breathing keeps your head level. but he doesn't let you fall back asleep without reminding you how much he loves you, how deeply he cares for you.
"would never let anything happen to you," he mumbles into your skin, trying to not let the panic of your body trigger his. "never in a million fuckin' years. love you so much, you hear?"
you're too choked up to respond.
"baby, come back down to earth. you hearin' me?"
"yeah," you squeak. "love you so much, too. thank you, arv."

it had been a week of you living at the russell house after your parents decided to split up. lenora, your best friend had been kind enough to provide you with a roof over your head. emma was a very supportive lady and you needed that sort of environment to overcome the fact that your parents were going to legally part ways. sometimes she would hold you when you cried because the pain of seperation was nothing new to her. it reminded the old lady of the time her son went to war and she longed for any information of his whereabouts.
sometimes you cried at nights alone in bed while everyone was asleep. you stayed in under your blankets and pressed a hand over your mouth to muffle your own sobs.
on monday you finally went to school with lenora. after a whole week of missing school, your friends were happy to see you but gene dinwoodie and his gang were constantly teasing you about your parents’ situation.
you couldn’t face the humiliation as you rushed out of the school halfway. you walked the whole way back, sobbing and wiping the trail of tears that covered your face every once in a while.
you assumed no one would be home because emma mentioned that earskell would be driving her to the grocery store across town to get some stuff for her special meal on lenora’s upcoming birthday.
but you were proven wrong when you saw arvin standing on the porch next to his uncle’s rocking chair, smoking a cigarette.
he stood up straighter, putting out his cigarette as soon as he saw you.
you never really saw arvin around the house, just carrying groceries for emma and helping repair something around the house but you were almost sure you had spent more time in the house in a week that you stayed there than he did in eight years.
“what’s wrong?” he pointed to your tear stained cheeks and red eyes.
“nothing.” you replied, walking inside the house to avoid a conversation.
you thought he wouldn’t care any further but he followed you inside, “kids at school bothering you?”
“it doesn’t matter really.” you said, placing the books you were carrying on the dining table. you saw arvin disappear into the kitchen and felt bad about talking to him rudely. he was just being nice.
you were about to follow him into the kitchen but he came back with a glass of water. you took it from his hands, flashing him a little smile, and took a sip of water.
“if you want i can beat ‘em up for you.” he shrugged so casually it made you laugh.
after that day arvin and you became friends too and you noticed a lot more of him in the house. you noticed him helping lenora and you with homework, being in kitchen– even if he didn’t work much– with the three of you, eating at the table with everyone. you also noticed his room was right next to the one you were staying in.
after almost three weeks of living with the russell’s, you found a letter in the mailbox addressed to you. it was your mom’s. it was quite early in the morning, you hadn’t gone to school with lenora and you were sure no one was home so you carried the letter to your room, got under your covers and tore it open, reading it.
she had apologised for their constant bickering in that letter and asked you to stay with her once the divorce was settled. you sniffled, placing the letter at your bedside table.
the sudden knock at your door caught you off guard. arvin’s cap was the first thing you noticed as he entered the room partially, “everything okay?” he asked, voice deeper than his usual pitch. you probably woke him up.
“y-yeah, everything is fine.” you wiped your face with your sleeves.
“we got thin walls.” he said, entering the room fully now, “is everything okay?”
you nod your head, “mama sent me a letter, calling me back.”
“you don’t want that?” he rubbed his eyes, walking closer and sitting at the edge of your bed, close to your feet.
“what?”
“to leave here?”
you weren’t sure how to answer that. you wanted to go stay with your mother but something was holding you back too. you wondered if it was emma’s sweet nature, or getting to stay with lenora, or if it was arvin. the possibility made your heard flutter.
instead of saying any of that, you just chose to go with, “it won’t be the same without him there. my daddy.”
arvin placed a hand over yours, which was nervously fidgeting in your lap. he held it and looked into your eyes, “it’s gonna be alright.”
those words felt like everything you needed to hear. you nodded, giving him a smile. the two of you sat there in solitude until arvin’s words cut through the silence, “can i sleep with you?”
you could feel the drowsiness in his voice. instead of wording an answer, you simply lifted your blanket, inviting him to lay with you.
you two laid down, arvin hesitantly placing an arm around your waist. you shuffled closer to him, wrapping your arm around his shoulder until his head chin was resting over your head and your face was nestled into his chest.
you were enveloped in arvin, “oh, you’re so warm, don’t even let go of me.” the brunette mumbled, reading your thoughts. his eyes were closed and expressions the definition of calm when you looked up to read his face.
maybe arvin russell was the only reason you wanted to stay.
