#are they getting ready to go and rule their queer little kingdom?
Note
Hi, just saw your post about your fav characters....Can I ask your your top 5 or 10 fav Disney characters and why you love them...?
EDIT: I am so sorry this took me so long to answer. I was doing a show and then Christmas happened and then I just let it stew!!
Lmao, sure! I'm not going to put the ones from the first post on here, because I've talked about them before. (But Stitch is still the top!! I'll also leave off Peter Pan and Cinderella) I'm not counting Marvel, Star Wars or Pixar; just Disney Animated Classics
Again, in no particular order, because that's too much stress.
1.) Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet
Tumblr media
The angst! The arc! But most importantly, the gender!!! I watched it again recently and Jim's story is just!! So full of emotions!! His relationship with Silver - coming to terms with his absent dad - just very good stuff! (And for a 00s kid, he was the epitome of cool, lmaoo)
2.) Tiana from Princess and the Frog
Tumblr media
Again, similar to Cinderella, I relate to 'Dreams come true, but you have to put in the hard work for them.' Especially this last year (me and Tiana both worked two jobs!), and working on coursework. Now that I've finished my course, I'm still holing up most nights to polish off a manuscript I want to seriously get published. Tiana working so hard for her dreams is a big inspiration. I probably take the wrong message from the film, lol
3.) Anna from Frozen
Tumblr media
This is mostly because I cosplayed Anna, multiple times! I have her coronation dress and her blue dress! It was honestly more because my friend had the dress ready to go, than any real choice, which spawned getting brought a lot of Anna merch. But I do like her as a character; her determination and optimism and that she's honestly an awkward dork.
4.) Oliver from Oliver and Company
Tumblr media
I love Oliver Twist and I've loved ginger cats ever since I first watched Alien. So I have to love Oliver. He is just...a little boy...there's not much substance to him but there doesn't need to be: he's an orphan kitten and his job is to be lovable.
5.) Aladdin
Tumblr media
The best Disney man? He's charming and handsome and dedicated! I thought I would have more to justify it, but not really, lol - he's a very nice man! The magic carpet ride, the puppy eyes, the underlying queerness of 'Genie, make me a prince!'
(I was also cast as Aladdin in the school play; a big gender moment for me!)
6.) Koda from Brother Bear
Tumblr media
Brother Bear was one of my favourites as a kid, and I loved Koda. Like Oliver, he's - cute - and cuddly. And that's enough for him to earn a spot on the list, because my standards a low!
7.) Jiminy Cricket
Tumblr media
I do think Kingdom Hearts influences this one: I think his role in the games is cute! And the idea of him being a sidekick/guide is definitely story material I'm toying with. Idk, I just find him charming. Maybe it's because the film is vintage now..maybe it's because I have a lot of cute cross stitch patterns with him on...
8.) Taran from The Black Cauldron
Tumblr media
But, uh, not to be pretentious: he's better in the Chronicles of Prydain books. That's not hugely fair, because there's five books and The Black Cauldron is more a mash-up of the first two, so Taran's arc is longer and more spread out in the novels. The sword is dealt with a lot more poingantly, and the reveal of his parents? Very good!
With the Disney version I guess its just that he's Arthur if Arthur was a little more fun and a little more flawed. Taran's kind of a jerk, but he learns to be a hero. And that's catnip for me.
9.) Judy Hopps from Zootopia
Tumblr media
(Unfortunately.) I don't have great feelings about Judy's job, or her policework, but I watched Zootopia a lot before moving out to go to uni, and really related to moving into some shoddy places persuing a goal that might not happen. I do love how upbeat Judy is; her optimism is a good rule to live by.
(The above gif was definitely me having a great time at the uni organised disco playing Busted, next to a housemate who was babysitting me until he had to walk me to the bus stop so I could home. (I had work early the next morning.))
10.) Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland
Tumblr media
I really love Alice in Wonderland, but my favourite has always been the Cheshire Cat. I do love a cat, and the fact that he was pink and purple was the best to me as a child. I just think he's neat!
(Disney stop putting him on villains merchandise he is just a funky little guy!)

For world building Wednesday: what social impact (if any) does queerness have in your world? Is it discriminated against? Do people adopt a 'live and let live' attitude? Is it revered? Are there different social attitudes in different places or for different kinds of people?
Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday!
I'm going to preface this with a note to say that I'm firmly of the opinion that if you're writing a story, you can simply choose to not include things like homophobia. And that's what I've done with all my wips. There are enough stories where homophobia (or overcoming it) are the main crux of the plot, and it's honestly exhausting. I'm ready to see more stories that feature queer people thriving, and if that means I've gotta write them myself, then so be it.
Queerness has very little actual impact in my wips. Queer people exist just as straight people do. There's never been a time in history where anyone stood up and said 'wait this is wrong' or 'I don't like this thing that you're doing'. There's no religion that people have used as justification to condemn it (tbf I haven't developed a religion at all yet, but...).
Emmeraude doesn't have a heavy reliance on bloodlines for rulers. Helps that the collective was formed by Emperor Lockwood gathering his closest allies, saying 'you lot, go claim the lands for your own', and sending them out to create what are now the six kingdoms of the collective. Bloodlines get a little funny when even the origins of your kingdom are muddy, and it means that producing an heir isn't as strict as it is IRL.
Glenmoor is ruled by two queens. Altenridge is ruled by an ace couple that don't like that level of physical intimacy. Both couples have chosen adoption.
So yeah. That's queerness in the Emmeraude Collective.

Current Projects & Emoji Voting Key
Quick disclaimer: I’m a romance writer in all aspects of the term, so most of my works will contain mature content. Engage at your own risk, you know the rules, you’re responsible for curating your own experience of the internet, blah blah blah.
This post serves as a current mock up of fic ideas I’m either actively working on or considering working on next. You can drop me an ask about any of them, or just vote via the emoji combo I’ve assigned them.
Voting lets me know you’re excited about an idea and makes it more likely I’ll actually work on it. You can vote anytime, there’re no deadlines or winner announcements, just me gauging your interest by what I see in my ask box most often.
You can also ask me about the original stuff I’m working on currently. The current WIPs are Medusa centric and the emoji for them is: 🐍
Support my original work on Ko-fi and Patreon.
- Lupin: 🤑🤠💍  These are all oneshot ideas, between 5-15K each. If you want to vote for a specific idea, send me the emojis and the number of the idea.
Born from the idea that Goemon and Zenigata probably couldn’t be an item, my brain decided to come up with how I could write for them. Goemon’s teaching an ikebana class as part of his training, and Zenigata shows up as a student on forced recreational leave for his health from the ICPO. Zenigata wins the samurai’s heart through flowers. But what happens when Lupin and Jigen find out? (Only good sexy things, I promise. These beans are in a healthy polycule--be gay, do crimes) (WIP)
Jigen/Lupin, but it's Jigen deciding to seduce Lupin while wearing his own Lupin disguise. The thief is waaaaay too into it, and some artistry is taken with the sex so that they don't mess up the disguise too much during their encoutner.
Jigen/Zenigata/Lupin where Jigen has some fantasices about Zenigata, but is pretty sure they'll never happen. Tells Lupin about them. Suddenly the fantasies are coming true, in the middle of a heist, and Jigen doesn't what to do except get swept up in the moment and enjoy. Plot twist, it's Lupin dressed up as Zenigata granting all his gunman's dreams. Plot twist again, Zenigata catches them at it.
Zenigata/Lupin, where Lupin keeps doing good things in illegal ways and Pops has to find a way to punish him for it. Good thing for Pops Lupin's a masochist?
Trans!Lupin and Trans!Jigen premise: Jigen cares for Lupin after the master thief has top surgery, since Jigen has Been There and Done That. Caring, sweet, and a little sexy. Lupin is a much better patient than Jigen.
The one time Zenigata caught Lupin in an alley and kissed him and it was Jigen in disguise. Things get sexy anyway, and Zenigata has crushes on two thieves now. Lupin and Jigen "kidnap" him later for an evening of taking care of their inspector.
The background plot of Jigen's Gravestone where we see Jigen think he's done for and try to leave Lupin. Our thief has none of it, and we get to relish in the inherent eroticism of Lupin sitting in sniper fire, knowing Jigen's got his back. This is the moment I think Jigen finally believes he can be with Lupin forever.
I love the idea of something longer and more plot driven like a Lupin special where Lupin ends up in hot water and Jigen and Fujiko have to work together to save him. Jigen and Fujiko have such an interesting relationship. They're both partners of Lupin, they don't really like each other, they constantly screw the other over, but when it really matters they take care of each other. I'd like to see that highlighted a little more and also give them space to call each other out and bicker. Nothing sexy between them, but maybe a really interesting threesome with Lupin and Fujiko in a strap on once they save their boy.
- Sonic Vampire Novelist Coffee Shop AU: 📚☕💐
Shadow is an immortal vampire who has seen the world change for the worse too many times. These days it feels like he only lives for his coffee dates with Rouge, another immortal who loves each new era they encounter, warts and all. He has to admit that the book series she got him into speaks to him, at least. If someone in this era can understand him without meeting him, it can’t all be bad. But he hardly expected the goofy blue barista at the new coffee place to understand him the way those books do.
This is a novel length romcom romp with some big feelings about what it means to watch as things change, grow, and die. Expect lots of Big gothic feelings from this one, emotionally charged kissing, and overly-adoring sex. But also expect shenanigans from everyone in the coffee shop, which include Rouge, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Cream, and more.
- Sonic Blazamy, "Like the Sun": 💖🌸💎
Amy Rose has been in love with Sonic for a while.
Or has she?
When the Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver are trapped as the fuel sources for Doctor Eggman’s newest evil scheme, Amy teams up with Blaze, Rouge, and Cream to save them. With Sonic out of the picture and Amy fulfilling his role, was she ever really in love with him? Or did she just want to be like him?
This is a novel length epic romance with lots of competent women and lots of romantic Blazamy content. Expect flowery hopes and dreams, badass self-actualization, and glancing hand touches that give way to cuddly and sweet sex.
- Persona 5: 🗡🍛☕
After bringing down the Metaverse twice, Ryuji didn’t think graduating high school and figuring out what to do with his life would be so hard. Akira’s back in town, and the gang’s more-or-less all in Tokyo, but everyone else seems to have a plan while Ryuji just floats. How’s he supposed to change the world when he’s not a phantom thief anymore?
This is a novel length fic that addresses how powerless one can feel being just one person in the face of all the corrupted systems and bigotry the world has to offer. It’s about holding on to what you believe in, working through the doubt, and fighting your way to a better tomorrow with the power you do have. The whole gang is queer, featured relationships being Mako x Ann, Ryuji x Akira, Futaba & Yusuke as platonic life partners. Akira is polyamorous and omnisexual, Futaba’s asexual and aromantic while Yusuke is demisexual and very romantic, Makoto’s a lesbian, Ann and Ryuji are bi, and Haru’s pansexual, demisexual, and aromantic. They’re one giant band of queer Phantom Thieves, and even if they’re not really doing the Metaverse thing anymore, they’re still gonna save the world!
Also, I’m gonna make Makoto not a cop. That super didn’t age well. Zenkichi and his boss can work on making them better/abolishing them for other better organizations.
- Hades Game: ❤️‍🔥💀
Oneshot. I just really need to elaborate on the threesome you can have with them in-game, okay? Healthy and canon poly relationships are so few and far between, so often I have to do a ton of groundwork to explain why it’s working in the fic, but NOT WITH THESE KIDS!
Get ready for Meg helping Zag and Than be better at expressing their feelings, lots of kissing, and probably pegging.
- Castlevania Animation Trevor/Sypha/Alucard: 🧛🏰🛌
Castlevania gave Alucard a threesome last season, and I just really need S4 to give me him being taken care of by his partners. They’re probably not going to give it to me, so I’ll need to do it myself. This is just an everybody loves Alucard oneshot, with the gang’s signature banter (to an extent), Sypha being sexy, and Trever being remarkably sincere. This fic is gonna feel like that Ann Hathaway picture with Trevor kissing Alucard and Sypha holding the end of Trevor’s whip while she leans her head on Alucard’s shoulder adoringly.
- Devil May Cry Nico/Lady/Trish: 💋✨😈
Nico’s gay, okay? Like really, really gay. And Lady’s bi and not into men who make her pay bills, but very into women who make amazing guns for her and demonesses with hearts who fight by her side. Trish is ace, but loves people and is pretty attached to Lady at this point. Plus it’s cute when Lady blushes and says nice things like they’re insults. I don’t have super solid ideas for them yet, and I envision these more like a polycule where Lady’s with Nico and with Trish but they’re not with each other more than seeing it as a threesome, but who knows what might happen. This is probably 1-2 oneshots depending on ideas, but might turn into a series of oneshots if people are interested (or I can’t control myself and inspiration strikes).
- Post FMA:B Blind Roy & No Alchemy Ed: 👀👑🙏
This is actually an old novel-length fic I wrote ages ago and didn’t post that didn’t turn out well because I was new to writing sex when I first wrote it. The plot is good, and is all about Roy learning to work with his blindness to reclaim his ambition of being Fuhrer and changing the system to something that actually cares for its people. He and Ed reconnect, fall into bed, and both set about working through their respective traumas about being “useless” having lost their sight/alchemy. They go to Xing as an ambassadorial party to offer Amestris’s collaboration on Al and May’s Alkahestry experiments--and uncover a plot that might threaten both kingdoms.
- Age of Calamity continuity Mipha x Revali: 🦚🐟💘
The first time Revali noticed Mipha, it was in the heat of battle. She stole his mark, taking them down with a flurry of quick blows from her spear. Violence rained from her like water--and then she healed him on her way to her next battle. No questions, no conditions, just pure kindness. The usual need to measure himself against those around him was quiet in her wake. And Revali couldn’t understand it. But how to get to know more about her? A fish and bird may fall in love, but where would they live?
This fic could be a oneshot or novel length depending on how far down the hole I fall. I need it to cover time, but it could be done in linked vignettes or with actually covering events in detail. I may elect to do a oneshot just to get it done and out of my system faster. So much fic to write, so little time.
Expect trans!Revali, polyamorous Zoras, scary competent Mipha, songbird Revali, love confessions that are made up entirely of berating Link for not loving Mipha the way she wants him to, and breaking these characters a little outside of their assigned roles in BotW and Age of Calamity. Background Link x Zelda, and Urbosa x Zelda’s Mom.
- Epic desert romance about Urbosa and Zelda’s mom: 🏜🏝⚡
I just think Urbosa should kiss women and Zelda’s mom should get more development and maybe a name or something. Also, lightning imagery/metaphors/play.
It also went way over my head that Riju wasn’t Urbosa’s daughter the first time I played BotW, so now I want to write about the Gerudo queen who refused to produce an heir. The Gerudo are fascinating and have a very interesting cutlure, but I think it could be examined from a nonbinary perspective that rejected pregnancy and wanting to find a husband. Not in like a hateful way, but in a way that examines if that’s really right for everyone. There’s that shop in town that sells Voe armor, after all. Maybe finding a husband and having children isn’t something you have to do if you don’t want to. And Urbosa really doesn’t want to.

Multipart Commission work - Harry Hook x reader - A Prince Behind the Pirate - part 12 - letters and conspiracies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@musicarose
=
“more and more people are rallying for the children of the isle to join us in Auradon” the council was meeting secretly, talking about the recent events of the people of Auradon calling for the children of the isle to be removed and relocated to Auradon“all thanks to your granddaughter Leah”
The ex-queen crossed her arms, glaring at her fellow council members. “it is not my fault that my granddaughters….soulmate” she spat “is a filthy isle pirate boy, trust me, I have plans to get him out of her head, the first being an arranged marriage between Ariels son and (y/n)”
“now how are you going to do that?” Luis scoffed, twirling his white mustache between his fingers “while it's not common knowledge that the pirate and your granddaughter are soulmates if it gets out the whole kingdom would riot for her, you know the consequences of forcefully pulling two souls apart”
Leah waved the old king off, he was a sucker for love and allowed his son to marry a peasant dish maid, he would be no use in the planning of all this. “yes yes whatever, I cannot have a filthy pirate soil my family line, (y/n) needs a prince, one with land and claim to his throne. Jordan will be just fine, with the claim to Atlantica”
The council nodded along with her standing as the “meeting” was dismissed, Luis frowned to himself, he just couldn't condone this behavior…he needed to tell someone.
=
You sighed, leaning back in your desk chair, blowing your hair out of your eyes. Another stressful day of dealing with Isle affairs, from the food barges to the assholes on the council denying yet ANOTHER transfer request of another 4 VKs.
It had been a long battle but after your stories, along with the cour four and Ben backing you up and their own stories, the people of Auradon were rallying for the removal of the vks from the Isle.
Cinderella herself was voting for the removal of the vks, along with her step-sister Anastasia. Which lead to more people to come on your side, if someone who was raised by a villain was rallying for the vks how bad could they be?
If only your grandmother wasn’t such a bitch and convincing the other council members to keep denying the VK transfer plan. You rolled your neck and got back to business, finishing up another document on the medical barge that was being sent to the isle soon.
A few minutes later a knock sounded at your door, and you turned to look at it for a moment before going back to your work “it's open!”
Audrey stepped through a moment later, a bowl of fruit in her hands “snack break!” you sighed and looked at her, smiling.
“but-“ she tossed a grape at you, pouting.
“no buts, now eat the snackies” you laughed and held your hand out for the bowl, she gave it and a fork to you, spinning around and landing on your bed “sooooo, hows work?”
“pretty good” you shrugged, a mouthful of watermelon “just finishing on a medical document before working on the next barge for fabric”
Audrey hummed and nodded to herself, picking up the tossed leather jacket on your bed, thumbing over the stitched silver hook. “any progress on Harry?”
“no” you groaned, letting your head fall “the council STILL won't approve the plan” Audrey pursed her lips, sucking on her teeth.
“….im really glad I've grown away from grammie, I used to think she knew everything but….shes just-“
“close-minded and thinks about what's best for her and HER line instead of what's best for us and what WE want?” Audrey pointed at you and nodded.
“exactly, shes so demanding and-and god, I wish mom and dad had more of an opportunity to raise us, I never realized that I hardly had a relationship with mom until I actually tried to hang out with her instead of grammie”
You shook your head, it had been hard for Audrey and mom to get their “proper” relationship going, even months later their relationship was slightly strained.
Thankfully for you, you had….not trusted your grandmother since you were a kid and she had grimaced and called a same-sex couple walking down the street “rule-breaking f*gs”…yeah you decided she wasn’t a good role model and mentally disowned her.
When you had told Audrey about it, right around the times she separated herself from Grammie, she had a look of horror on her face, being apart of the LGBTQ community herself, she took it to heart.
To sum it up,  you and Audrey had basically disowned your grandmother and decided you deserved better than a homophobic, controlling bitch of a grandmother.
She still tried to control the two of you but 1) since you met Harry and decided that hey, your soulmates a pirate, let's just go crazy and 2) Audrey was done with her bullcrap.
Your dad had almost died from laughing as you both hid from your grandma one day while she visited. But managed to hide it from her as she asked about you, while your grandpa found you and snuck you some food
Your grandfather was always your favorite out of the two grandparents,  he never pressured you, never forced his beliefs on you, and just let you be yourselves….and also took you to get junk food.
Big difference from your grandmother, but anyway- back to the main plot.
You swallowed the last bit of fruit and placed it on your desk, going back to working on the medical document.
“shoot I gotta get going, Jane wanted to go get brunch at Tiana's place, see you later!” Audrey jumped up from the bed, ran over to give you a quick kiss on the cheek before she bolted from your room to find jane. “have fun” you muttered distracted, typing out your last paragraph, and hitting the save button, opening up the fabric document next.
Time for another three hours at your desk, just the life of the isle ambassador.
=
Harry grunted as he set a large barrel full of fish on the ships main deck, groaning as he stood and stretched out his aching muscles. He shook his head, feeling beads of sweat dripping from his scalp and down his forehead. “gods” he muttered “the one day I do work and its gotta be so hot” he slicked back his sweat-soaked hair and turned around, heading back to the barge to collect more food for the crew.
As he walked down the gangplank, his oh so precious little sister CJ came trotting towards him, a white envelope in her hand, waving it about in the air “oh Harry~ a letter from your girlfirend~” she called, skipping over to him and holding out the letter.
Harry tried to grab it but CJ twisted and pulled away the letter, sticking her tongue out playfully “you have to be quick-hey!” Harry picked CJ up and plucked the letter from her hand, dropping her back on her feet, snickering as she hit his shoulder.
“and yeh hav’ ta be quicker than tha’” Harry mocked, ripping open the envelope and taking out the letter, grunting as CJ jumped onto him and climbed to look over his shoulder “yeh rotten little monkey” he muttered, opening the letter and grinning slightly as (y/n)s neat handwriting appeared
-hi Harry~ just wanted to write a quick letter to you. The next barges are medical and fabric and should be at the isle within the week, I need Uma to write up any needs on the blank paper I put along with this letter and give it back to the courier that will be retrieving the returns in three days.
I miss you every day and even though we see each other in our dreams, I still wish I could see you.
-until next time, love- (y/n)
Harry sighed, smiling softly at the letter, thumbing over (y/n)s signature. “gag” CJ stuck her tongue out and walked away “im gonna go hang out with someone who isn’t being a love guppy” Harry rolled his eyes and closed the letter, shoving it in his pocket and taking the envelope and blank paper to Uma
=
You sighed, finally finishing the last document and sending it to the manager of isle affairs. You spun around in your chair and stood, walking to your bed and flopping down onto the mattress.
“uhhhg” you groaned, grabbing your jacket and pulling it over your head, ready to sleep for 10 hours after your grueling day of filling out paperwork.
Your phone sounded off, and you groaned loudly and sat up, your jacket falling to your lap, leaning over you grabbed your phone from the charger, clicking on the message bubble.
….
….
“WHAT!???!”

we are all disappointed at the wedding “short” so heres a x reader for your trouble

-          The Falling in Love Montage- Ciara Smyth Saoirse doesn’t believe in love at first sight or happy endings. If they were real, her mother would still be able to remember her name and not in a care home with early onset dementia. A condition that Saoirse may one day turn out to have inherited. -          Summer of Salt – Katrina Leno Georgina Fernweh waits with growing impatience for the tingle of magic in her fingers—magic that has been passed down through every woman in her family. Her twin sister, Mary, already shows an ability to defy gravity. But with their eighteenth birthday looming at the end of this summer, Georgina fears her gift will never come.
-          Sawkill Girls- Claire Legrand Marion: the new girl. Awkward and plain, steady and dependable. Weighed down by tragedy and hungry for love she’s sure she’ll never find. Zoey: the pariah. Luckless and lonely, hurting but hiding it. Aching with grief and dreaming of vanished girls. Maybe she’s broken—or maybe everyone else is. Val: the queen bee. Gorgeous and privileged, ruthless and regal. Words like silk and eyes like knives, a heart made of secrets and a mouth full of lies.
-          The Priory of the Orange Tree- Samantha Shannon A world divided. A queendom without an heir. An ancient enemy awakens. The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction – but assassins are getting closer to her door. Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic. Across the dark sea, Tané has trained to be a dragonrider since she was a child, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel.
-          I was Born for this- Alice Oseman For Angel Rahimi, life is only about one thing: The Ark – a pop-rock trio of teenage boys who are currently taking the world by storm. Being part of The Ark’s fandom has given her everything – her friendships, her dreams, her place in the world. Jimmy Kaga-Ricci owes everything to The Ark too. He’s their frontman – and playing in a band is all he’s ever dreamed of doing. It’s just a shame that recently everything in his life seems to have turned into a bit of a nightmare.

But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her. With new terms thrown at her – asexual, aromantic – Georgia is more uncertain about her feelings than ever.
-          The Last Beginning- Lauren James-  (you probably need to read the next together first which I HIGHLY recommend) Sixteen years ago, after a scandal that rocked the world, teenagers Katherine and Matthew vanished without a trace. Now Clove Sutcliffe is determined to find her long lost relatives. But where do you start looking for a couple who seem to have been reincarnated at every key moment in history? Who were Kate and Matt? Why were they born again and again? And who is the mysterious Ella, who keeps appearing at every turn in Clove's investigation? For Clove, there is a mystery to solve in the past and a love to find in the future, and failure could cost the world everything.

otp asks [drake x camille]
Tumblr media
Thanks for tagging me @argylemnwrites
Big thanks to the amazing @mskaneko for drawing up these questions AND for making this edit of Drake x Camille for me which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!
****************************
1. What other couple would your OTP get along with?
Leo and Olivia, hands down. Drake and Olivia have a weird friendship founded on Instagram trolling, insults and their annual hug. But Drake knows that Olivia is the most loyal person he has and she adores his daughters.
2. Do either of them have secrets even the other doesn’t know?
Drake will sneak a cigarette when he’s stressed out. He hides the evidence with cologne and breath mints.
Camille will sneak a cigarette when she’s stressed out. She hides the evidence with perfume and breath mints.
3. Who is the one that sees the big picture, while the other focus on the small details?
Drake sees the big picture while Camille focuses on the small details.
4. Who does stuff on impulse?
Camille does on occasion but she is learning to kerb it.
5. What is their favourite holiday?
Drake loves 4th July because it means he can buy all the fireworks and get his daughters all excited for the festivities. His dad was a huge 4th July fan so Drake wants to carry it on - especially since his kids are more American than Cordonian.
Camille loves Christmas and goes overboard with decorating. It’s the one time their house isn’t all neat and organised - when Christmas rolls around, all rules go out the window.
6. What is their favourite board game?
Drake likes card games such as Cards Against Humanity. He loves inappropriate humour and seeing how far he can take it.
Camille likes Game of Life :)
7. Who would go out of their way to do something silly to make their partner laugh?
Drake. He turned into a goofball when he married Camille. She makes him feel at ease and he doesn’t care about looking silly.
8. Favorite canon moment of them?
Oooh... I love it when Drake beats up Tariq. Like any time he shouts ‘Get your hands off of her!’ I sploosh.
Or it has to be in Lythikos in the snow and they hold hands ‘for safety.’ That made me smile.
9. Least favorite canon moment of them?
Drake deciding he loves the idea of his kid becoming the heir of the kingdom and his whole personality was destroyed in one fell swoop.
10. Who is the competitive one?
Drake is. Camille will be like ‘it’s just a game!’ and he’s like ‘Camille, I swear to God, I need to beat Leo at Mortal Kombat, I refuse to let that smug bastard win again!’
11. Who likes to go on drives to nowhere in particular
Drake. He loves driving through the hills of Cordonia and just feeling like a weight is lifted off his shoulders.
12. Who sings along with the radio?
Camille will sing to cheesy 90s when she is driving. Drake will want to open the door and throw himself out onto the road.
But when Drake is driving his kids to school, he will sing his heart out to make them laugh.
13. Who would accidentally set the kitchen on fire while cooking?
Well, at Christmas, Camille did forget about the turkey while having a 2 minute quickie with Drake..
14. Who is more seductive when they are drunk?
Camille is.
But Drake does a seductive dance when he’s had one too many. Think body rolls. Camille loves it. Drake swears he doesn’t have a seductive dance.
15. Who wakes the other up in the middle of the night to tell them a cool dream they had?
Neither.
16. Who asks weird questions in the middle of the night?
Drake will if he can’t sleep and just wants to talk to his wife.
17. Who likes to walk around the house naked and who tells the other to go put some clothes on?
I can’t imagine a head canon where Drake and Camille would want the other to put some clothes on. Sorry, not registering.
18. Who is always ready to have sex at any time, at any place?
Both of them, Drake more so. Say the word and he is ready.
19. Who likes to surprise the other with a lot of small random gifts?
They’re not that materialistic, instead preferring to leave little notes and things.
20. Where did they take their first picture together?
On a night out with the gang, wasted on tequila shots.
21. Who knows the most useless facts?
Drake. He knows everything.
22. Who is more likely to forget their own birthday?
Neither, but Drake doesn’t like his birthday. The only time he really enjoyed his birthday was when Camille surprised him with a little baby grow with a marshmallow embroidered on the pocket as a ‘you’re going to be a daddy’ gift. He cried.
23. Which bad habit of their partner do they find the most annoying?
Drake leaves his towel on the floor after a shower, like most men.
Camille tidies up after him but then that means he can’t find any of his stuff. This is annoying for him.
24. Who is the better driver ?
Drake. To quote Ross from Friends, he is not getting in ‘the death seat’ when Camille is driving.
25. Who is more likely to admit they are wrong in an argument ?
Both. Drake has had to learn to do it. But when they admit it, they sit down and talk calmly.
26. What is something that reminds them of one another?
Coconut shampoo and Chanel perfume reminds Drake of Camille.
Whiskey reminds Camille of Drake.
27. Would they get matching couple tattoos? If yes, what it would be?
No they wouldn’t but Camille does have ‘DW’ tattooed inside her thigh after a drunken brunch with Maxwell.
28.Who sleeps wrapped up in a cocoon of covers?
Neither.
29. Who would win in a pillow fight?
Drake would. He takes no prisoners.
30. Who likes to take photos of the other when they’re not looking
Camille. She loves photography and tries to take photos of those little moments that she wants to remember forever.
31.Where would they go to get away from everyone else and just be alone?
Honestly? Texas. It’s the one place where they can pretend they are normal. Days are longer and lazier. Sunsets by the lake. Laughing. Kissing. Happiness.
32. If they got to pick what one another wears for a day, what would one another wear?
Drake loves it when Camille dresses down. She usually  dresses so elegantly but he prefers it when she wears her ripped jeans, Converse and a white t-shirt.
Camille likes it when Drake wears a henley shirt, jeans and boots. A slightly more elevated version of his usual look (oh my god, I sound like Tan from Queer Eye. PRINTED SHIRTS!)
44. What do they love most about each other?
Drake loves how big Camille’s heart is. She puts everyone first and cares about everyone she knows.
Camille loves how far Drake has come. She says he is the strongest person she knows.
Bonus: 3 random HC about your OTP
Their favourite thing to do is to sit out on their terrace with a glass of whiskey and a glass of wine and just talk. They never run out of things to talk about.
Their mottos are: ‘Husband and father first, Duke second,’ ‘Wife and mother first, Duchess second.’ It helps them remember what actually matters in life.
They are best friends. Enough said.

Films and shows to get you ready for Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman
Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is getting adapted into a series by Netflix.   Though this is a DC comics property, The Sandman is NOT like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman.  The Sandman is a gorgeous and surreal fantasy that only partially takes place in the human world.  A big part of it takes place in the fantasy realm known as The Dreaming.
There is very little combat action though there is horror.   To give you an idea of what you are in for (Or if you are a Sandman fan already and want something to hold you off) here are twenty-five films and shows that share some of the traits (or atmosphere) you might find in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
25.   The Raven (1963 film).  This might seem like an oddball one to list since it’s a Gothic Horror fantasy comedy from the 1960s but it gets referenced in The Sandman by Matthew imitating Peter Lorre and later Matthew compared Cain to Vincent Price.  I think it’s safe to say Matthew was a Price (or Roger Coman) fan.
Tumblr media
24.   Death.   Death is a short animated film from DC and was featured as bonus content for the Blu Ray of the animated movie Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.
Though she looks younger (appearing about nineteen-years-old) Death is the older sister of Morpheus AKA Dream of The Endless, the main protagonist of The Sandman.  She was first introduced in The Sandman issue 8, The Sound of Her Wings.
Tumblr media
23.   Stardust.
Stardust is a fantasy film based on the novel (and graphic novel) by Neil Gaiman.  Though there are liberties taken, this should give you some idea of what his fantasy writing is like.
Tumblr media
 22.    Beetlejuice the animated series.
Tumblr media
If you want an idea of what The Dreaming (realm of Dreams) is like then I urge you to check out the surreal Neither (that’s not a typo) World from the Beetlejuice animated series.  The monsters that inhabit this realm are the stuff of fantasy and nightmares.  Some are living puns.  And they are ruled over by a broody Goth who makes it rain when he’s depressed and feeling melodramatic, much like a certain Dream Lord from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman...
21.  Bonus listing:   The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
Tumblr media
One major antagonist of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is a nightmare entity known as The Corinthian who escapes into the waking world and becomes a serial killer.  Had Sandman been adapted in the mid-90s I think many would have loved a crossover with Freddy Krueger.
20.   Return to Oz.
Tumblr media
If by some weird chance you have never seen The Wizard of Oz or any faithful (read: Not 2010) version of Alice in Wonderland I would recommend those first.  But under the assumption you may have already seen those I would suggest watching Return to Oz.   Return to Oz features an adorable Jack-o-lantern headed character called Jack Pumpkinhead.   Jack Pumpkinhead was the loose inspiration for the grounds keeper dream entity character of Mervyn Pumpkinhead in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
19. Tales from the Crypt (TV series).
Tumblr media
Issue 2 of The Sandman is called Imperfect Hosts because all of the characters introduced in that issue are former horror host characters from horror anthology comics.  Cain and Abel were DC’s answer to The Crypt keeper and The Vault Keeper.  For a good idea of who Cain actually is (assuming he’s in the show along with his House of Mystery) I strongly recommend checking out the TV show Tales from the Crypt.
18.   Tales from the Cryptkeeper (animated series)
Tumblr media
In the mid-1990s there was an animated series adaptation of Tales from the Crypt called Tales from the Cryptkeeper.  Season 2 featured the three original EC comics horror hosts of the Cryptkeeper, Vault Keeper, and the Old Witch.  These storytellers might give you an idea of who (or what) some of Morpheus’ Nightmare minion are in The Sandman.
 17.    Hocus Pcous.
I chose to put this one here because the three witches of Hocus Pocus very much remind me of the Hecatae version of The Three-in-one from The Sandman Issue 2.   There’s also a powerful Grimoire that is a plot catalyst.
Tumblr media
16.   The 10th Kingdom.
Tumblr media
The 10th Kingdom was a fantasy mini-series that aired on NBC in 2000.   It dealt with a twenty-seven-year-old young woman who discovers that her estranged mother is the evil queen in a faery tale world.   It is very much a story about stories (much like parts of The Sandman) and shows you the original dark and unvarnished versions of some classic faery tales as well as how those characters (and their descendants) carry on centuries later.
15.   Once Upon a Time (TV series.  Particularly seasons 1 through 3.)
Tumblr media
Much like with 10th Kingdom we have here a story about stories and those characters from classic stories trying to live in the human world with varying degrees of success.  You see how important their stories are and how carefully and intricately each tale was interwoven with each other.  (...Until around season 4 that is...)
Also it begins with a very powerful creature imprisoned and later undergoing an extremely long redemption arc and a sense of guilt tied to the death of his own son.
14.  Constantine:  City of Demons.
Tumblr media
John Constantine appears in one issue of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.   Issue 3.   Constantine: City of Demons gives a good crash course on who Constantine is and where he comes from.  John Constantine’s ancestor, Johanna Constantine is a recurring character in The Sandman.
13.  Justice League: Dark animated movie.
Justice League:  Dark is the first animated movie to feature The House of Mystery.  The House of Mystery is a building whose roots are in The Dreaming in The Sandman.
Tumblr media
12.   Constantine (2014 series).
Tumblr media
In 2014 Constantine got his own live action series but it only lasted for one season.
11.  Locke and Key.
Tumblr media
Only recently did I learn Locke and Key will be doing an official crossover with The Sandman Universe.
 10.    Lucifer TV series.
The TV show Lucifer is an oddball thing since it was based on a comic that is actually a spin-off of The Sandman.  The storyline that introduces us to Mazikeen, where Lucifer quits ruling Hell, opens Lux, and takes up playing Piano all come from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
When Fox got the rights to Lucifer no one thought The Sandman was going to be getting an adaptation, at least not in the near future.  As a result several conversations and key pieces of dialogue that originally passed between Morpheus and Lucifer in The Sandman comics now went to Lucifer and his therapist, Linda, and his angel-brother, Amenadiel.
Tumblr media
Bonus: If at all possible check out the Crisis on infinite Earths event from the CW as the real Crisis on Infinite Earths (original comic event) eventually gave way to things like The Sandman.
9.   The Witches (1990) and Coraline (2009)   I couldn’t decide which one to put here so I put them both.
Tumblr media
The Witches is a children’s horror film based on the book by Roald Dahl. I suggest this here for its darker themes and you get a group of dangerous, child-killing witches attending a meeting at a hotel, much like The Corinthian’s Serial Killer convention in The Sandman.
Tumblr media
Coraline is a stop motion fantasy / horror story for children and can give you some idea of what certain aspects of The Sandman are like, as it is by the same author.
8.    Pan’s Labyrinth.
Tumblr media
The Sandman is very much part fantasy and part Gothic horror and no director alive quite fits that criteria now better than Guillermo del Toro and possibly Tim Burton.   Pan’s Labyrinth has the surreal beauty and darkness you are likely to see in The Sandman.
7.   Doom Patrol.
Doom Patrol was the first DC show that made me have faith that yes, they CAN adapt Sandman respectfully and unafraid of the strangeness it might entail.  Doom Patrol seemed unafraid to tackle the strange, quirkiness of it’s own content.  From a talking roach, to gender-queer sentient street named Danny, Doom Patrol was not afraid to be strange.
Tumblr media
6.   Swam Thing (2019 TV series from DC Universe Streaming Service).
I mostly suggest this for one character in particular. Matthew Cable.  After Matthew died in The Sandman comics he chose to spend his afterlife as Morpheus’ raven.
Besides featuring a character from The Sandman Swamp Thing gives a very good Gothic atmosphere and supernatural content, giving you an idea of the sort of horror DC can do.
Tumblr media
6.  Justice League Action:   Trick or Threat.   And Justice League action: Supernatural adventures in Babysitting.
Tumblr media
The episode of Justice League Action called Trick or Threat features Cain, a nightmare character from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, as well as The House of Mystery.   This was Cain’s first appearance in media.  The version of Cain in the TV show Lucifer is nothing like his comic book counterpart.  This cartoon is the first and only faithful adaptation of the character from the comics.
The episode of Justice League Action called Supernatural Adventures in Babysitting features the Magdalene Grimoire. This is the grimoire used to summon Morpheus in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.  It also features John Constantine.
Tumblr media
    5.   She-Creature:  The Mermaid Chronicles (2001 film)
This is an odd from about some humans have a captured mermaid.  The majority of the film is about her escape and revenge on her captors.  You will see something similar to that with Morpheus in the very first episode of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
Tumblr media
4.  The Company of Wolves.
The Company of Wolves is a story about stories.  In the ontemporary world a pubescent girl sleeps during her first period. She dreams that she is Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother tells her horrific stories about werewolves.  The wolves become metaphors For puberty, masculinity, and waking sexuality.  Toward the end Rosealeen (the protagonist) becomes one of the wolves.   You get random stark reminders that this entire film is set in a dream world, and yet it’s still strangely easy to forget.
Tumblr media
 3.   The Nightmare before Christmas.
The Nightmare before Christmas is a fantasy musical about the king of Halloween.  Though he’s adored by his subjects he longs for more.  The surreal landscape and strange creatures can be reminiscent of The Sandman.
Tumblr media
2.   Labyrinth.
Tumblr media
One of the earliest efforts to talk me into reading The Sandman entailed someone telling me that Morpheus was “Like a Goth Jareth.”   This effort (at the time) failed to entice me though I do love Labyrinth.
1.   Over The Garden Wall.
Tumblr media
I only saw Over the Garden Wall for the first time about a year and a half ago and loved it very much.   This is a strange animated mini-series about two brothers lost in a forest called “The Unknown.”   The setting has been debated among fans as to if it’s purgatory (a place between life and death), a dream realm, or something else entirely.  I choose to believe that though it may be a place between life and Death that it’s also a part of The Dreaming, especially with so many surreal and Gothic visuals, and characters and creatures directly out of vintage seasonal cards.

Louisa May Alcott Quotes
Hello Anne! This is my first batch of quotes. I hope you like them! Being a girl, I decided to start with a female writer.
“Good books, like good friends, are few and chosen; the more select, the more enjoyable.”
“Do the things you know, and you shall learn the truth you need to know.”
“I like to help women help themselves, as that is, in my opinion, the best way to settle the woman question. Whatever we can do and do well we have a right to, and I don’t think any one will deny us.”
“Women have been called queens for a long time, but the kingdom given them isn’t worth ruling.” (An Old-Fashioned Girl, 1870)
“I can only say to you as I do to the many young writers who ask for advice — There is no easy road to successful authorship; it has to be earned by long and patient labor, many disappointments, uncertainties and trials.” (From a letter to a reader, 1878)
“Read Charlotte Brontë’s life. A very interesting, but sad one. So full of talent; and after working long, just as success, love, and happiness come, she dies. Wonder if I shall ever be famous for people to care to read my story and struggles. I can’t be a C.B., but I may do a little something yet.” (From her journal, entry dated June, 1857)
“We all have our own life to pursue, our own kind of dream to be weaving … And we all have the power to make wishes come true, As long as we keep believing.”
“Life is my college. May I graduate well, and earn some honors.”
“Painful as it may be, a significant emotional event can be the catalyst for choosing a direction that serves us — and those around us — more effectively. Look for the learning.”
“We’ve got minds and souls as well as hearts; ambition and talents as well as beauty and accomplishments; and we want to live and learn as well as love and be loved. I’m sick of being told that is all a woman is fit for! I won’t have anything to do with love until I prove that I am something beside a housekeeper and a baby-tender!” (Rose in Bloom, 1876)
“My head is my study, & there I keep the various plans of stories for years some times, letting them grow as they will till I am ready to put them on paper. Then it is quick work, as chapters go down word for word as they stand in my mind & need no alteration.” (From a letter to journalist Frank Carpenter, 1887)
“He who believes is strong; he who doubts is weak. Strong convictions precede great actions.”
“She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain.” (Work: A Story of Experience, 1873)
“The love, respect, and confidence of my children was the sweetest reward I could receive for my efforts to be the woman I would have them copy.” (Little Women, 1868)
“I want to do something splendid…something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it and mean to astonish you all someday.” (Little Women, 1868)
“Nothing is impossible to a determined woman.” (Behind a Mask: The Unknown Thrillers Of Louisa May Alcott, 1866)
“The emerging woman … will be strong-minded, strong-hearted, strong-souled, and strong-bodied…strength and beauty must go together.” (An Old-Fashioned Girl, 1870)
“Keep good company, read good books, love good things and cultivate soul and body as faithfully as you can.” (Rose In Bloom, 1876)
“Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well. Then youth will be delightful, old age will bring few regrets, and life will become a beautiful success.” (Little Women, 1868)
“It’s amazing how lovely common things become, if one only knows how to look at them.” (Marjorie’s Three Gifts, 1899)
“I shall keep my book on the table here, and read a little every morning as soon as I wake, for I know it will do me good, and help me through the day.”
“Human minds are more full of mysteries than any written book and more changeable than the cloud shapes in the air.” (Abbot’s Ghost: A Christmas Story, 1867)
“It takes people a long time to learn the difference between talent and genius, especially ambitious young men and women.” (Little Women, 1868)
“Some books are so familiar that reading them is like being home again.”
“Self-abnegation is a noble thing but I think there is a limit to it, & though in a few rare cases it may work well yet half the misery of the world seems to come from unmated pairs trying to live their lie decorously to the end, & bringing children into the world to inherit the unhappiness & discord out of which they were born.” (From a letter to a friend, 1865)
The ones below I believe are specifically from Little Women.
“I’ve got the key to my castle in the air, but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen.”
“Love is a great beautifier.”
“My child, the troubles and temptations of your life are beginning, and may be many; but you can overcome and outlive them all if you learn to feel the strength and tenderness of your Heavenly Father as you do that of your earthly one. The more you love and trust Him, the nearer you will feel to Him, and the less you will depend on human power and wisdom. His love and care never tire or change, can never be taken from you, but may become the source of lifelong peace, happiness, and strength. Believe this heartily, and go to God with all your little cares, and hopes, and sins, and sorrows, as freely and confidingly as you come to your mother.”
“Watch and pray, dear, never get tired of trying, and never think it is impossible to conquer your fault.”
“… for love casts out fear, and gratitude can conquer pride.”
“I want to do something splendid … something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead. I don’t know what, but I’m on the watch for it and mean to astonish you all someday.”
“Be comforted, dear soul! There is always light behind the clouds.”
“I’ve got the key to my castle in the air, but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen”
“I’d rather take coffee than compliments right now.”
“I want to do something splendid… Something heroic or wonderful that won’t be forgotten after I’m dead… I think I shall write books.”
“The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy and life lovely.”
“Don’t try and make me grow up before my time … ”
“I find it poor logic to say that because women are good, women should vote. Men do not vote because they are good; they vote because they are male, and women should vote, not because we are angels and men are animals, but because we are human beings and citizens of this country.”
“Love Jo all your days, if you choose, but don’t let it spoil you, for it’s wicked to throw away so many good gifts because you can’t have the one you want.”
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”
“Don’t laugh at the spinsters, dear girls, for often very tender, tragic romances are hidden away in the hearts that beat so quietly under the sober gowns, and many silent sacrifices of youth, health, ambition, love itself, make the faded faces beautiful in God’s sight. Even the sad, sour sisters should be kindly dealt with, because they have missed the sweetest part of life, if for no other reason.”
“Some people seemed to get all sunshine, and some all shadow…”
“There are many Beths in the world, shy and quiet, sitting in corners till needed, and living for others so cheerfully that no one sees the sacrifices till the little cricket on the hearth stops chirping, and the sweet, sunshiny presence vanishes, leaving silence and shadow behind.”
“Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well. Then youth will bring few regrets, and life will become a beautiful success.”
“You don’t need scores of suitors. You need only one … if he’s the right one.”
“Be worthy love, and love will come.”
“Be comforted, dear soul! There is always light behind the clouds.”
“I don’t pretend to be wise, but I am observing, and I see a great deal more than you’d imagine. I’m interested in other people’s experiences and inconsistencies, and, though I can’t explain, I remember and use them for my own benefit.”
“She preferred imaginary heroes to real ones, because when tired of them, the former could be shut up in the tin kitchen till called for, and the latter were less manageable.”
“Girls are so queer you never know what they mean. They say no when they mean yes, and drive a man out of his wits just for the fun of it.”
“Wouldn’t it be fun if all the castles in the air which we make could come true and we could live in them?”
“A quick temper, sharp tongue, and restless spirit were always getting her into scrapes, and her life was a series of ups and downs, which were both comic and pathetic.”
“Jo had learned that hearts, like flowers, cannot be rudely handled, but must open naturally…”
“Gentlemen, be courteous to the old maids, no matter how poor and plain and prim, for the only chivalry worth having is that which is the readiest to to pay deference to the old, protect the feeble, and serve womankind, regardless of rank, age, or color.”
“…and Jo laid the rustling sheets together with a careful hand, as one might shut the covers of a lovely romance, which holds the reader fast till the end comes, and he finds himself alone in the work-a-day world again.”
Finally, this is one of the sites I searched from: https://www.literaryladiesguide.com/author-quotes/louisa-may-alcott-quotes/
I hope you enjoy them. I look forward to submitting more quotes next week!
Yours faithfully,
Bashiek

Loki Apologist 101
I was having a conversation with someone who said Loki was a forgettable villain in Thor 1 and that people only started liking him after the first Avengers once he was more powerful and I had an automatic vitriol reaction.
But I got to thinking why do people like Loki so much? Why does he provoke such powerful feelings among fans? Why is this particular villain so easy to empathize with despite all he’s done? And I think it has to do with the nature of hero movies and how they’re structured, especially with the way Thor 1 is set up.
Thor is the crowned prince of Asgard, a land we learn right from the beginning is born of conquest — Laughfy calls Odin a “liar and a thief.” The first scene we’re given of Thor and Loki is a remuneration on how low the Frost Giants are and how their conquest was not only needed for the safety of the realms but also inherently virtuous. Thor himself, as a child, is seen reflecting this violent thinking, vowing to end an already defeated race of people whose planet’s life force was taken from them.
When the Frost Giants enter Asgard they only seek to take back what is their’s, they do not take anything else from the vault. While Thor enters Jotunheim ready to kill over a comment that questioned his masculinity, “run back home little princess.”
Thor is our hero here and because Thor is presented as our hero we are being told we must not only acknowledge the supremacy of those born privileged and violent, we must love them. When we see the home of the Frost Giants again we see it is a dying and crumbling planet. We’re told to look down on the hopeless scampering of the weak Frost Giants as they dodge the jaws of their overlords.
Everything about Thor 1 seems to follow the Law of the Schoolyard: only the strong and the beautiful triumph, and the powerless survive only by serving the strong.
What follows in the film is a sequence of events that we all recognize: a trial of masculine initiation in which Thor exerts physical strength and will to overcome opposing forces, earning his right to enter a privileged sphere of male power and succeed the throne. The Queen, witnessing the devastation around her, is strangely passive throughout the film — Odin is weakened and too old to continue ruling the kingdom and it seems Frigga is incapable of taking up the mantle despite her experience and power. She never does anything to oppose Odin, she’s infantilized.
Thor, on the other hand, is the first born son and will be given the throne for that reason alone no matter how unqualified or dangerous he is to Asgard.
We can see through all this that the structure of Asgard is objectively appalling. It’s unfair — a patriarchal monarchy — it’s not the sort of world we can get behind.
The story of the Frost Giant’s is very important to the film because we find out our villain Loki is one of these Frost Giants. Loki learns he is part of a despised race; a race his brother wants to destroy, a race his father has subjugated for at least a thousand years.
The only solution after absorbing this information is to feel empathy for Loki. People don’t empathize with Loki because they secretly like people who want to be dictators and go on to kill entire cities of people, they empathize and identify with the version of Loki they see, who is someone who is rightfully angry with the way things are. It’s almost like the film is wrong about who Loki really is.
Even in the Avengers, where he is a more defined villain who does villainous things, audiences that have already empathized with him go ‘well he wouldn’t actually be like that, nobodies really like that.’ There’s this powerful rejection to the narrative the film is feeding you because you’re repulsed by the world he comes from and the way it’s treated him. ‘They just don’t understand this character like I do.’
People like villains because they see them as responding in a way that’s appropriate to the nightmare world they live in. Anyone who finds the world a film exists in to be icky in any way can’t help but identify with the villain who moves against it.
That’s why Black Panther is so brilliant because it acknowledges the parts of Wakanda that are wrong and backward and uses that to build a better plot and recognize how Killmonger has been failed.
These villains are rebelling against an unfair world that has never taken them into account and are punished for it. While their actions are questionable and objectively immoral it almost doesn’t matter what they did, their symbolism gets more focus from the audience. They stand in for ‘the other’ (an individual who is perceived by the group as not belonging, as being different in some fundamental way) almost by virtue of being a villain and standing opposite of what the hero stands for. Villains upset the status quo of their deeply flawed societies.
We see this in a lot of Disney villains. Characters like, Ursula, Scar, and Hades are stand-ins for the fear of the fall of traditional values, they exert a corrupting influence on the young who need to fall in line and continue to perpetuate the ideal homogeneous nuclear society of feminine domesticity and male lead culture. A culture that excludes and leaves little room for ‘the other.’ It’s no coincidence that villains are so often queer coded (including Loki). Queerness upsets the status quo and thus is seen as a threat.
This is also the problem with Marvel villains; the writers are unwilling to accept the unfairness of their worlds which create crime and anger and a privileged ruling class the rest must yield to. Their villains can’t be memorable if they can’t be sympathetic and they can’t be sympathetic if the writer won’t acknowledge the ugly parts of their world that create villains while hero’s, in all their privilege, thrive.
The only good MCU villains are the ones who actually explore this: Killmonger, Loki, and maybe the Vulture from Homecoming, who fell into crime after Tony Stark’s company eliminated his job and stole his livelihood.
Loki is great. Villains are great. They allow us to get a peak of a world where the scorned could gain the power to utterly destroy a society that has belittled and slighted them, getting a chance to release all their anger in the most destructive and vengeful ways possible, and isn’t that something we’ve all wanted to do? At some point, just a little?

Themes of secrecy in Reputation
Anyone who’s remotely paying attention knows that Reputation is absolutely brimming with references to secrets, duality, double meanings and private revelations. The album explores these ideas from a lot of different perspectives, and I thought it would be useful to get some analysis in one place. Let’s take it song by song, shall we?
“...Ready For It?” -- This song has obvious public/private parallels that I’ve written about before, with the verses tracking Taylor’s dark public bearding and the choruses tracking her light, airy private loves. (ht @bikertaylor for being the first to point out to me that the verses and choruses seemed to be tracking two different ideas.) The theme of secrecy that I’m interested in exploring here, though, is even more personal: When Taylor writes, “In the middle of the night, in my dreams, I know I’m gonna be with you, so I take my time,” she’s writing about a hope so dear to her heart that it’s buried in her subconscious, bubbling to the surface only in her dreams. (Of course, a dream can also reference a wish or a fantasy, but I think the literal meaning is interesting here and shouldn’t be overlooked.) If you read this song as a conflict between Taylor and her own inner desires, fighting to break free, the music video can be read more literally as well: This song is about a fight Taylor’s having with herself. The battle rages within her own heart, and the “you” in the title might refer to us (her fans, the world) being ready for her to reveal her secrets -- but it might also refer to whether Taylor herself is ready.
“Endgame” -- The line that piques my interest here is, “I bury hatchets, but I keep maps of where I put ‘em.” The first reading here is about her seeming apologies for her public dramas, a joke that she forgives but doesn’t forget. Many of those dramas, though, concern heartbreaks and bearding narratives -- and I’m really interested in the idea that each of these might be considered a hatchet, a weapon, an instrument of pain but also a tool of survival. She buries these hatchets one by one, but she doesn’t forget them, and they become a map of her psyche,
“I Did Something Bad” -- The line that sticks out here is, “For every lie I tell them, they tell me three.” A lie is of course one kind of secret, and it’s telling that Taylor and her “boyfriends” so regularly keep secrets from one another. Additionally, I like the way “every lie I tell them” might connote that she’s telling the same lie over and over -- namely, the lie about the true nature of her feelings and their relationship.
“Don’t Blame Me” -- This song is absolutely rife with themes of darkness, secrets, and hidden truths, and I love how these references are overlaid with religious iconography: “the darkest little paradise,” “halo hiding my obsession,” “I would fall from grace just to touch your face.” This song is also a continuation of Taylor reckoning with her own desires: “Lord save me, my drug is my baby, I’ll be usin’ for the rest of my life” isn’t a lyric about wanting to return to her past self, the one who plays by the rules; this is a plea to find acceptance for who she is and who she intends to be for the rest of her life. That’s why this song makes more sense as an LGBTQ narrative than, for example, a song about pre-marital sex -- once you get married, you would return to the “halo” state of playing by the rules, but if your “baby” is a queer relationship, you can’t play by the rules without changing who you are. That’s why Taylor’s name is whatever you decide, and that’s how she changed from an existence that was poisonous to herself and others into a daisy, a symbol of innocence. She’s using words associated with nature (and therefore associated with paganism and lesbianism) to redefine the traditional religious ideas of innocence and sin, darkness and light.
“Delicate” --  This is a song about a literal secret relationship (or the beginning of one), so of course I’m more interested here in the metaphorical lines, namely “Is it chill that you’re in my head?” and “Are you ever dreaming of me?” In this song, the first on the album that seems grounded in specific details of Taylor’s current relationship, Taylor is creating a distinction between the secrets she keeps from the public (that the relationship exists at all) and the secrets she keeps from her lover and even herself.
“Look What You Made Me Do” -- Hear me out on this: What if LWYMMD is a song (at least partially) about bearding? Read this way, we can see that Taylor hates being made to play the role of the fool who can’t make a relationship work, that she had to get smarter and harder in order to protect her real relationships, that she accepts her role as an actress pretending to be someone she’s not. Many critics and listeners have commented that the chorus leaves them cold -- without a melody, without emotion, without the payoff promised by the rising action of the pre-chorus. But if Taylor is telling us that “what we made her do” is live a fake life pretending to be someone she’s not, it makes perfect sense that the chorus would feel lifeless and robotic. The fact that it’s a sample of “I’m Too Sexy” could also be a clever nod to the fact that the performance she’s giving is as a conventionally acceptable, heterosexual being appropriate for consumption by mass audiences.
“So It Goes...” -- Now we come to the part (i.e. the majority) of the album where secrets are no longer subtext; they are straight up text. The brilliant lyrics about magicians and illusionists show us that the secrets Taylor is keeping are now public -- she is being honest with herself and her partner. No longer is she in her head and her dreams: “I know what you know, we can feel it.” This song marks a transition in the album, away from Taylor reckoning with her own secrets and toward her reckoning with how to keep those secrets away from prying eyes.
“Gorgeous” -- Our explicit secret here (“you touching my hand in a darkened room”) leads to an opportunity for Taylor to confront her own emotions about having to keep this relationship secret: She uses the words “furious,” “hurts,” “hate,” “sad,” and “mad” -- not exactly the kind of language one typically uses to talk about the excitement of meeting a new love. These negative words are juxtaposed against a joyous beat and melody (typical Swiftian genius), but we shouldn’t overlook the fact that Taylor’s circumstances are clearly making her feel horribly upset. Is she upset by meeting a new person? That doesn’t make a lot of sense -- it’s much more likely she’s upset that she can’t be with that person in public.
“Getaway Car” -- I like reading this song as an accurate retelling of her switching beards from CH to TH. “A circus ain’t a love story” is a great way to think about the media circus surrounding all of Taylor’s het relationships, and the narrative of she and TH being criminals fits with them perpetrating duplicity and lies. (More secrets!) Once we get to the outro, though, we see the true emotions behind this lighthearted heist: She was crying and dying in that car. If she didn’t have feelings for TH, as this song would suggest, and if she was ready as hell to leave her ex, why was she so upset -- if not for the deeper secret she was keeping?
“King Of My Heart” -- “Your love is a secret I’m hoping, dreaming, dying to keep. Change my priorities, the taste of your lips is my idea of luxury.” Here we see the unity of Taylor’s inner hopes (her dreams) with her outer identity: She has found the solution to her secrecy problem -- glass closeting. She changes her “priorities” to her “friendships,” and is then able to bring the person who rules the kingdom inside her room out into public.
“Dancing With Our Hands Tied” -- This is where we get into the dark side of glass closeting, namely kissgate. This song is all about secrecy: “I loved you in secret,” “picture of your face in an invisible locket,” “I’d kiss you as the lights went out.” All those golden secrets Taylor and her partner keep tarnish and revert to poison when brought to the light of day. The “sacred oasis” of Taylor’s relationship is subjected to biblical plagues -- fire, avalanche, flood -- when they dance in public. Their only option is to go back into hiding.
“Dress” -- And, as it turns out, keeping secrets can be hella sexy! This feels like a yin/yang pair to DWOHT, the ecstasy of getting away from public toxicity and back to a golden secret paradise. But though their kingdom is small and secret, Taylor takes care to note its permanence with lyrics like “a golden tattoo,” “carve your name into my bedpost,” and “inescapable.” If a “beard” is the woman a man wears to seem straight, then it only makes sense that a queer woman would wear a “dress.” In that reading, J*e is actually Taylor’s “dress” -- the costume Taylor bought to show a good public face, while in private she removes her armor and becomes her true, permanent self with the person she loves.
“This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” -- Here again, I’ve got a suspicion that Taylor is writing about more than her public feuds. “I’m shaking my head and locking the gates” feels like the same retreat into private described in DWOHT and Dress. What if -- in addition to the obvious narrative -- this song is also discussing why Taylor can’t have the life she wants in public, and we (her fans, the media, etc.) can’t have the true details about her life that we crave?
“Call It What You Want” -- Taylor taketh away but then, oh then, Taylor giveth. Because this is the moment where she lifts the curtain and lets us spend time with her in her golden oasis, behind her crumbled castle walls, her guard evaporated. She’s got her code here (het pronouns), but otherwise her secrets are all gone. I’ve written before about the language she uses in the chorus to reinforce the idea that her relationship is a secret escape, but the beauty of this song is that she invites us to run away with her -- if we’re willing to see the truth. Karlie what you want to; her name is whatever we decide.
“New Year’s Day” -- A circus ain’t a love story, but this song is -- literally! “Don’t read the last page” means that Taylor already knows the ending: she’s going to stay with her partner for the whole long road. In private moments cleaning up the apartment after a party, squeezing hands in the back of a taxi, recognizing each other’s laughs, they have found comfort, longevity, and lasting love in their secret world. They will hold on to each other, and despite the deep fears that the world would divide them, their joy and their memories see them through.
This album is one long rumination on secrecy and how it affects us -- the secrets we keep from ourselves, from our lovers, and from the strangers who think they know who we truly are. In the introduction to Reputation, Taylor writes very explicitly about this idea -- but in her lyrics, she gives us an intimate view into her own emotional process in grappling with the secrets that have dominated her life. The album charts a beautiful progression from Taylor coming to terms with her own secrets, finding someone else to share those secrets with, and, finally, finding a comfortable and happy way to live with those secrets despite the public and the media bearing down on her from every angle. In refusing to give interviews during this era, she is living the solution she has shown us on this album.
To state the obvious, Taylor’s het relationships are public by definition, charted in press releases and pap walks. It just doesn’t make sense to me that she would write an entire album about the idea of secrecy unless her life were riddled with secrets. Taken with the specific ways Taylor uses gendered language on this album, it seems abundantly clear to me exactly what secrets she’s keeping.

Happy Friday Book Lovers! I’m a little all over the place today but I’m stoked to get the weekend started. This weekend I’ll be flexing my newly found green thumb skills as I expand my at home window garden. I really thought this was something I sucked at smh since my past experience with plants were TERRIBLE. Whelp! (many things I thought I would suck at have turned out to be quite the opposite, never doubt yourself luvs) I have managed to keep my succulent Leo alive since the start of this year. Many will ask themselves (like my good friend Taylor @Nerdnarration), how do you kill a succulent? well it happened to me 2 years ago & I was set on never letting it happen again. Leo is now ready for siblings & my BFF IRL is bringing me a seedling from his very own garden! excited for this & have already ordered a few things for their arrival. On the bookish front, I have started a contemporary set to be released in 2 weeks & a few single issue comics. I also have plans for some outdoor activities with my tiny humans in a safe social distancing space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Faithless Hawk (The Merciful Crow #2) by Margaret Owen– I had no idea this was a duology but I’m so satisfied with how everything wrapped up! The world was further fleshed out as was the magic system & our MC’s were put through the wringer. I did NOT expect to finish it with tears in my eyes but it sure happened to be that way. I have a full review coming next week.
Wynd Issues 1 & 2 by BOOM Comics! – If you’re a fan of all things Fae then this will be one to keep an eye out for. I’m already craving more from this story & appreciate so much the plus size rep as well as there being POC characters. Wynd is a Fae Queer boy living in Pipetown where all with magic in their blood have been exiled. Wynd is in hiding, he was taken in by a family when he was just a baby left behind in a basket. The family has taken great risk in hiding him while the King has hired help to eliminate any found within his kingdom. There’s also talk of a land where those with magic live freely, can’t wait to read more!
A Man Among Ye Issues 1 & 2 by Image Comics– I love all things pirates but its the female pirate stories that have given me LIFE! this comic is based off of the real Irish Pirate Anne Bonny. We get a female MC who is very confident & just a bad a**! aboard Captain Jack’s crew. Other than Jack who may be a love interest, the crew is very sexist & anti Anne. Mutiny is definitely afoot. Now I’m not sure if she will remain on his crew or venture off based on how issue 2 left off. I am absolutely in need of issue 3 cause it seems we will be getting more female POC Pirates. I have a feeling this will be a favorite & I’m really hoping it gets a trade paperback *fingers crossed*

The Roommate by Rosie Danan
House Rules: Do your own dishes Knock before entering the bathroom Never look up your roommate online
This was about all I had read from the Goodreads Synopsis before I clicked on request on Netgalley. So far its been receiving really good reviews & I can see why. Since starting it last I found myself quickly going through the pages with no real want to put it down except for the much needed sleep. I’ve heard it’s a very sex positive read & that one of the MC’s has a profession not typically seen in books…I’m intrigued 😉
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“She-Ra and the Princesses of Power tells the tale of Adora, a teenager who can transform into the heroine She-Ra and leads a group of other magical princesses in a rebellion against the evil Lord Hordak and his Horde.”
I’ve just started watching friends & can’t stop! thank goodness for slow work from home days amiright? haha! there are POC & plus size characters that I have absolutely been charmed by. These characters have quickly become faves! Final thoughts will be in my August Wrap-up.

Current Fic Ideas & Emoji Voting Key
Quick disclaimer that I’m a romance writer in all aspects of the term, so most of my fics will contain mature content.
The current WIPs are Medusa centric and the emoji for them is: 🐍
- Lupin: 🤑🤠💍  These are all oneshot ideas, between 5-15K each. If you want to vote for a specific idea, send me the emojis and the number of the idea.
Lupin, Jigen, and Goemon always play rock-paper-scissors after a big heist to decide who’ll give the group a striptease, and who will get showered with money. Based on a piece of fanart that is basically this sequence of events in a 4koma (except in their version Jigen loses and in mine, it’s Goemon). (written, just needs editing)
Zenigata cuffs Lupin four times, and Lupin steals his heart. Very NSFW conclusion. Zenigata is the most caring lover you’ll ever find. Lupin is as thirsty as usual and twice as intense. (written, just needs editing)
Jigen protects Lupin from poison darts during a treasure hunt in an Aztec temple, and Lupin nurses him back to help--forcibly, since Jigen is a horrible patient. Born from my desire to spoil Jigen and talk about what ridiculous domestic husbands these two are. (WIP)
These beans are in a healthy polycule--be gay, do crimes)
Trans!Lupin and Trans!Jigen premise: Jigen cares for Lupin after the master thief has top surgery, since Jigen has Been There and Done That. Caring, sweet, and a little sexy. Lupin is a much better patient than Jigen.
- Sonic Blazamy: 💖🌸💎
