maybe the trick to getting people to care about my characters is to post thirst traps of them appealing to two v different queer demographics

Blurb: In an unsteady time of peace following a generations-long war, Mila, an 18 year old farmer, finds herself unexpectedly thrust into the world of nobility upon discovering she can wield a power thought only to be possessed by the upper class. Struggling to find her feet in this new environment and shunned by those around her, she juggles learning about her abilities, her identity, and the truth of the war behind the propaganda. When her equally ostracized mentor gets a tip about a plot to assassinate one of the country’s leaders, it’s down the dysfunctional teacher with a shady past and his apprentice who can barely control her powers to prevent the country from falling back into conflict.

Setting:

Magic: Low fantasy with scarce/rare magic. The magic is called forging and is basically element magic but I wanted to explain all the hand movements people do with those so I incorporated more rules and ‘science’ to make it more rigid. there are ten basic ‘facets’ (air fire water stone earth wood iron copper blood bone) and people can be born knowing any number, or special different ones, but it gets exponentially rarer with more facets. the magic is genetic and mostly confined to the upper class and has become a way of oppressing the lower class. this actually gets addressed rather than mentioned then ignored (cough, korra, cough)

Culture: The culture of the main country, Odrad, is based on african, middle eastern, and mediterranean cultures, with a bit of southern asian. However most of that is simply due to the setting being dry and hot, and so developing dark skin and loose clothing and making most things out of stone and plaster due to the scarcity of wood. Religion is polytheistic based around an all mother type goddess and the god of the sun with the biggest festival being the start of the wet season. Other important countries include Acrait, the biggest on the continent, which is more south asian based, and Sheiro, which is steppe-type culture. Odrad is an ex-monarchy ruled by a council that has morphed into capitalism and feudalism’s horrid little baby with ‘magnates’ (a new branding for nobles) controlling everything.

on one hand I want to find an audience for ymg more than anything on the other hand ardev and endel’s relationship would spawn truly incredible amounts of discourse

I’m trying to make it bad but not in a clear cut way so they oscillate between having open healthy conversations and the most manipulative shit imaginable (often with good intentions executed horribly)

did being together improve their lives dramatically? yes. should they split up? absolutely. would that make both of them worse off? inevitably.

The five continued their journey in tonights Eberron game. After arriving in the small town on Ardev the group wasted little time before setting out into the wilderness towards the monument known as Six Kings where the goblin sect they seek are supposed to be found. A few days into their journey they encountered a group of hunters who were harassing and questioning a bound goblin whose markings may very well identify him as a member of the Kech Volar, the wordbearers, the goblin tribe that the players are seeking. As the party called out to the strangers they were taken by surprise by two arrows being launched from a nearby cliff, especially as the dangerous alchemical concoction at the tip of the arrows burst into flame upon hitting, meaning that now two in the party was on fire. The party charged, Lanian unfurling his Aasimar wings and leaping into the air as the rest advanced on the attackers along the road. 

A short battle later it was revealed that these were not simple hunters or brigands, but members of the outlawed organisation known as the Emerald Claw. One of them was taken captive, but seemed resistant to normal interrogation means, and was left at the side of the road to whatever fate the gods had in store for him. 

The goblin was indeed a scout for the tribe the players are seeking, but explained it was not his task to help them find his people or survive the wilderness, they would have to make their own way. Before leaving he pressed a silver necklace into the hands of one of the party, explaining that it was all he could give. The five now continue their journey, one step closer and having possibly made one friend amongst the goblins.

looking for readers for a project

now that I dont have school to worry about I’m gonna try and get the first draft of my next thing out. last time I just uploaded the chapters online as I went but this time Ive decided to keep it to just a select few ‘alpha readers’ who will also just function as a way of motivation just to make sure I meet deadlines I set cause if I do it myself then I just ignore all deadlines. 

so if anyone wants to read each chapter as it comes out and give feedback (or not, u can also just read it) I would be very appreciative. Its probably gonna be pretty long cause I 100% have an over-writing problem with first drafts. 

the project is Young Man’s Game. It’s ish (ish) similar to kkc but about 300 times more gay and the setting is based on middle eastern, northern african, and mediterranean cultures. I’ll put a longer description under the cut.

I’m considering giving any readers, who stick through to the end and give feedback, a piece of art as a thank you. I’d do every chapter but....like I said. over-writing problem.

Okay so the first chapter, which I already have finished, is going to come off as a lot more similar to kkc than the series actually is. mainly cause it’s setting up exposition and setting and I came up with the idea while smack in the middle of my kkc phase lol.

Heres a very short little blurb I wrote about it ages ago:

Odrad and Sheiro have been at war for generations. Now, in a time of tense armistice, Mila is summoned to a university to learn to control the rare ability she was born with, the ability to forge facets. Paired with a mentor, the bizarre Ardev Kallas, she must adjust to her new life as a forger. But disaster seems to loom as the nations look for any excuse to fight, and Ardev is not who he says he is. Is everything she was taught about the war a lie?

The plot for the first book at least (probably going to be at least two) is fairly...fluid. Basically just Mila trying to adjust and learn and a whole lot of ‘fuck around and find out’. It explores prejudice and corrupt governments and identity and ‘war bad’ and all sorts of fun stuff. It's very character based since I’m a character bitch but I’m doing my best to keep the plot and pacing good as well. 

Rating would be R for sure. There’s a lot of swearing, some violence/brutality but I don't tend to go for too much gore. It will have some heavy topics (child abuse, sexual assault, etc) but most of that is stuff in characters pasts so it’s more talked about among them rather than actually Described. I also don't like writing explicit sex scenes so anything along those lines is more of a fade to black situation. 

I can add any content warnings to each chapter if you wish.

Setting is fantasy with low magic. Forging is akin to bending from ATLA or naming in KKC, with a touch of sympathy cause I’m a slut for science and my magic must have rules. Like I said above, it's based on northern african, middle eastern, and mediterranean cultures. However more in aesthetic than values (basically just...warm setting, no trees, how do buildings and clothes and stuff evolve in these conditions). I do my best to be fairly original with stuff like religion and values. Very little sexism. Women and men are viewed differently but not “men are better”

Queerness: the setting does have some homophobia but that's cause I’m ghey and like writing ghey characters saying ‘fuck what u think’. But it's kinda more like Mila is from buttfuck nowhere in the bible belt (and...doesn't have access to internets) and moves to fuggin san francisco and is like O.O and also all the characters are queer. 

Lastly I do have some chapters finished. I will be using google classroom (lol yes google classroom) to distribute to ppl and get feedback. If you aren’t sure if you would like to or not I can give you just the links for the first two or so, so you can get a feel without actually being added into my ‘class’.
