Lesser Known Asteroids for Synastry and Composite Charts - PART 2 - Apollo and Daphne
Based on the myth of Apollo and Daphne
Tumblr media
The Asteroids:
Apollo 1862
Daphne 41
Both are named after their Greek mythological figures
1862, 41
Tumblr media
The Myth:
A story of extreme unrequited love/lust
Apollo insults Eros by questioning Eros's abilities as an archer
As revenge, Eros shoots Apollo with a golden arrow of love/lust and shoots Daphne, a river nymph, with a lead arrow of hatred
Apollo suddenly has an urgent need to pursue Daphne while Daphne has an urgent need to escape Apollo
Daphne continues to resist and reject Apollo while Apollo chases her, wanting her to stay with him
As Apollo closes in on her, Daphne makes one last cry for help to her father, Peneus, asking to be transformed in order to finally escape the danger she is in and to be free from Apollo forever
Her father at that moment turns her into a laurel tree
Apollo, still affected by Eros's powerful arrow, promises to honor Daphne forever
Apollo makes laurel wreaths a symbol of his and a symbol of high status (think Olympians)
He then makes Daphne evergreen; this is why laurel trees stay green all year long
Tumblr media
Possible Outcomes for this Couple
Aspects between Daphne and Apollo in synastry and composite charts will indicate an unrequited or unbalanced relationship. Both people could be on different pages with how they see each other. Person A could be more chaste and/or reserved about getting closer to Person B; Person B could come off too pushy, trying to get Person A to reciprocate.
Or, Person A could have no interest in being associated with Person B, while Person B makes efforts to be with Person A.
In an extreme case, this could turn into an obsessive relationship and/or stalker situation. Person A is obsessed with Person B, wanting to know everything about them, everything they're doing or planning on doing. Person B feels uneasy, uncomfortable, and afraid and tries to escape the entire situation.
If the Daphne of the relationship does succeed in ending the relationship or putting some distance between him/her and the Apollo of the relationship, Apollo will still have Daphne on his/her mind and might reach out again (or at least think about it a lot).
A more innocent interpretation would be that these asteroids embody the "chase", meaning that one person is clearly the pursuer and the other person is the receiver of that attention. This does not have to be in a disturbing, creepy, or dangerous way.
DISCLAIMER: This is an interpretation from one person, me, a stranger. As much as we all love astrology, the best judgment of your relationship would most likely come from you and your real experience, not from me and asteroids!

What is a “Universal Offering/Devotional Act?”
Feel free to request or suggest deities! This list will be done in order but you can ask for me to complete one that’s further down the list.
This list is subject to change. There are probably repeat deities (deities who go by multiple names, parts of groups like the Horae or Charities who are mostly grouped together, etc.) on this list. Some deities are not on here. Some names are spelt wrong or different.

Prayer to Artemis and Apollon
Praise today, O Lord Apollo and Lady Artemis, rulers upon the Sun and Moon. The Celestial Twins, on this date, join each other in the sky, shining upon us their divine light and presence. Praise the children of Great Zeus and Leto; Hail Lady Artemis, the oldest daughter, who helped her mother at birth. Godess of the hunt, divine virgin, patroness of girls, their childhood and innocence.  Hail Apollon, youngest son, born by his sister's hand. God of the plages and sickness. Patron of the arts, music and poetry. May they raise their bows and guide us towards their light. - serotoninbetweenpages

Note
i love thinking about apollos anatolian origins 😵‍💫
It stews in the back of my head too :3
There was this really good podcast on Spotify I found about Ancient Greece, and I listened to his Apollo episode first (because I honestly can't stomach the ones who paint him as 'terrible assaulter'/'epitome of the patriarchy'. Can't stand it. Seriously, there was this so-called 'feminist' mythology podcast i found and I Noped out of there as fast as I could - she didn't even mention Eros's involvement in the Daphne myth! She immediately went 'Apollo: the man who doesn't know the meaning of No' and I was like I'M OUTTA HERE.)
(It's very hard to find good Apollo content out there when you have educated yourself on what he's actually like :( )
(At least you immediately know those people didn't do their research shrug)
Thankfully, this one had a really good, really in-depth discussion about Apollo; his origins, his domains, his myths, ect!
COMPLETELY FREE OF BIAS TOO! HE JUST GIVES YOU THE FACTS, THE SYMBOLISM OF THE MYTHS, HOW THE CULTURE INFLUENCED THEM, ECT!
On my first (and only rn) listen I was like "damn i need to take notes on this sometime" that's how in-depth it is!
Here's the episode link if anybody is interested, btw!
What's cool is that he said that before Apollo came along, oracles and the like weren't as common in Greece - they existed, because Gaea was a thing - however, when he was imported in (possibly also with Leto! She has Anatolian origins too!), oracles became more of a thing as Apollo's popularity skyrocketed!
If you look at the number of Oracles Apollo had, you'd also notice that a lot of them are in Anatolia (Turkey today)!. Didyma, Miletus, Claros, ect ect! I think this just adds to the theory that Apollo's main origins come from Anatolia! When he moved to Greece, oracles came with him!
Which is so cool because in my drafts I currently have a picture of a webchart I made of Apollo's (many) domains, and I narrowed down the ones I think are his Big Ones - and Prophecy is one of them.
Very cool that Prophecy has always been part of him <3
Also, Apollo has many cities he is the patron of in Anatolia - Troy is obvious, but the island of Tenedos was his too (his son Tenes founded the city there), and he was the patron of Miletus (the city where he met Branchus btw for my Branchus fans out there)!
And going to Leto real quick, her migration from Anatolia religion to Greece's is probably represented in the Hymn to Apollo! Sometimes myths about wandering from place to place were meant to symbolize the importation of a god (Aphrodite floating ashore of Cythera, for example), and Leto...well, she was doing a lot more than the typical wandering in the hymn, but it still fits!
Some versions say she was guided to Delos by wolves from Hyperborea, others say Boreas helped her escape Python, still others claim a rooster was present when she finally was able to give birth and thus became her sacred animal (also she apparently gave birth to Apollo as a wolf? I don't quite remember which version says that but it's something I've heard XD).
Also Delos was very self-conscious about Apollo being born on it because it was afraid he would judge it for not being up to typical island standards XD
Moving to Apaliunas now! He's a Hittite god, but I haven't been able to find out of what :( The main piece of evidence we have of his relation with Apollo is Troy - Apaliunas was the god of Wilusa, who has been found out to be another name for Troy! There was a treaty signed between Wilusa and another city, and the representative of Wilusa's name was commonly translated to "Of Ilios" - and Ilios was another name for Illium, aka Troy.
(Fun fact: The son Apollo had with Ourea was named Ileus, after Troy! They are but a footnote in mythology but I made them Important in my Troy fic XD)
Plus, Apaliunas's name was connected to the Hittite reflex of Apeljōn, which scholars have theorized to be an early form of Apollo's name - remember Apollon? :D
Apollo also has connections to various other deities - the Italian Etruscan god Apulu (Aplu), the Celtic god Grannus, his Egyptian equivalent is Horus and his Phoenician one is Resheph! He's also been identified with Baldur from Norse mythology.
Apollo be wearing that trenchcoat, and he is wearing it well XD

wines for some theoi
feel free to send asks for theoi not listed! and of course, this is my personal opinion from my wine knowledge.
A fun wine for any theoi of importance are blends from Rapsani, which is located on Mt. Olympus.
Aphrodite: commandaria, which is made from the mavro and xynsteri grapes. Along with Moschofilero, for its striking, romantic, and rose-garden aromatics.
Apollon: for those who see him as a sun god, straw wines, and for plague Apollon, Botrytis wines such as Tokaji. For a more Gaulish Apollon, Vins de paille. The cretan wine Dafni could also work for being named after Daphne
Ares: sparkling reds, such as Lambrusco for their striking nature in carbonation and red hue.
Artemis: natural wines, those made with the yeast upon the grape skins, or traditional orange wines for the "wild" aspect of them.
Ariadne: traditional Cretan wines, such as Shiraz, Vidiano, Vilana, Thrapsathiri, Malvasia, etc.
Dionysus: all wines, but Retsina in particular.
Eros: romantic reds in general, I do not have a particular wine for him.
Helios: some ancient authors said one should not offer wine as he shouldn't be drinking on the job, but who listens to that? Straw wines and Sicilian wines match his nature as a sun god, though mead also holds a special place in my heart for him.
Hephaestus: Sicilian wines, for their volcanic nature, especially those around Mt. Etna such as Nerello Mascalese
Hera: aromatic reds and roses, such as muscat d'asti, and for Hera of Samos, Samos Vin Doux
Herakles: Agiorgitiko, for its home in Nemea, where he bested the Nemean Lion.
Hestia: table wines such as Chianti and Prosecco, though I have always found her in orange wine due to orange wine being a common style of the ancient world. Agiorgitiko is the most popular Greek wine, and as such I also see it with her in her ability to unite the hearth.
Hermes: wines from central Greece, but I would also argue Greek Chardonnay and Syrah for their international travel to Greece.
Pan: Savatiano, for its origin in Central Greece
Zeus: as Hestios and a household god, table wines, and very light wines, such as vignoles. Pyment could also be lovely for his love of bees.

Notes
From literature we know that the twins didn’t immediately start out as deities of the moon and sun respectively.
The most important temple dedicated to Apollo is the temple and Oracle at Delphi. The priestess Pythia would listen to and deliver Apollo’s prohocies and words. The story says that Pythia had breathed in vapors that rose from a spring underneath the temple.

Fun fact about Coin: I have a tattoo inspired by Apollo, with an arrow going through the roman numeral XIII and a minimalist sun overlaying the middle of the number in honor of my own twin who has the same tattoo but with a moon instead of a sun.
