I'm obsessed with Zuko having quality bonding time with the Gaang at his families Ember Island beach house in the days leading up to Sozins comet. I mean, they went to the theater, they had beach parties. The Boi is experiencing funtimes with real friends! I just wish Iroh could've been there....
Headcanons for stuff the gaang did at ember island:
After the stuff that happened in the Southern Raiders, Katara wasn’t really in a place where she wanted to be around everyone else, so Zuko decided that since it was on their way back and they were planning on changing locations anyway, the Ember Island house would be a good place for her to chill out for a bit.
It was there that she asked him why exactly he betrayed them in Ba Sing Se and they actually talked about Zuko’s decision. I think Zuko helping her find her mother’s killer showed her that he was actively trying to make amends, but they needed to have the conversation about why he did all the things he did in order for her to forgive him.
When the rest of the gaang got to ember island, the first thing Zuko decided to do was burn all his family’s stuff that he didn’t the last time he was at the island. This time, however, they had a really nice bonfire and Zuko didn’t feel uncomfortable or sad in his family’s house for the first time in a long time.
The house has many rooms and for the first night, they all split up to sleep in separate beds but found they were much more comfortable sleeping in the same room. Their solution was to take all the pillows, mattresses, and blankets, compile them in one room, and make the largest pillow fort ever.
Suki taught Sokka and Zuko how to catch crabs. Sokka got pinched many, many times in the process.
Katara and Aang scheduled time to practice waterbending, but it mostly turned into them surfing using ice blocks and competing to see who could surf on the biggest wave (using bending to make the waves bigger).
Toph enjoys Zuko’s company a whole lot and Zuko would do anything she wants because she can always pull the ‘hey remember when you burned my feet’ card, so they spend a lot of time bonding.
There are a couple of Ursa’s old play scrolls in the house that Sokka finds and, being the cultured boy he is, gets super into them, much to Zuko’s delight. Sokka convinces Suki to join them in reading them aloud (”because that’s how you’re supposed to experience plays, you can’t just read them from the scroll”). She agrees but only on the condition that she gets to play the cool villain character and Zuko and Sokka have to play the lovers.
Zuko found out that Aang had been frozen in the iceberg for 100 years and was not, in fact, in hiding like the Fire Nation had assumed for a literal century when he asked why the play was called “Boy in the Iceberg” in the first place
After finding that out, Zuko just walked into the ocean and stood there for a couple hours
Toph woke Zuko up in the middle of the night after they saw the play and decided to put his Blue Spirit skills to use. They vandalized the posters for the play all over town.
Sokka found random bottles in a cabinet and decided that fuck it, if the world was going to end, he was going to get drunk at least once in his life. Zuko decided to not tell him that whatever was in that bottle was in no way alcoholic and just decided to see how Sokka would act ‘drunk’.
This allows Toph to bury Zuko with sand whenever she sees fit
Zuko and Toph wouldn’t say it, but they really aren’t into Katara’s cooking. Toph may be a bad bitch but she appreciates high society cuisine. Zuko needs at least five spices for whatever he’s eating to taste good. They steal buy a ton of local spices to give some kick to their next few meals. Zuko is happy with it but Toph immediately regrets it (not that she’d admit that she can’t handle spicy food).
Zuko helps Toph learn her way around the wooden house once he picked up on the fact that she couldn't sense her way around.
Ember Island has a tattoo parlor and Sokka was planning on getting one of the moon (the only thing that stopped him was Zuko convincing him that it would get infected).
Likewise, Toph was very close to getting her ears pierced just because it was something her parents didn’t want her to do (she didn’t give a shit about jewelry but if someone thought she couldn’t handle the pain of getting her ears pierced, she was 100% going to do it no matter what). Likewise, Katara talked her out of it with the argument that with the amount of dirt Toph is constantly covered in, there was no way it wasn’t going to get infected.
Suki was put in charge of cooking one night. It posed a bigger fire hazard than any bender that lived there. She is no longer allowed in a kitchen ever again.

zukka fics that live in my head rent free!
1. what did you bury before those hands pulled me from the earth (what were you digging) by draco_sollicitus status: complete (18k words) rating: mature pairing(s): sokka/zuko  summary: Sokka is immortal; it's been tested, he knows that he can't die. He's immortal, but he's not quite a god like his sister, Katara. He's immortal, but he's not quite powerful like his friends Aang and Toph. He's just sort of Sokka: good at fixing things, good at playing pranks, good at helping people. When a bet against Toph goes horribly wrong, and an attempt to save him goes even worse, Sokka finds himself the unwilling guest of the Lord of the Underworld. And, strangely enough, every story Sokka's heard about Lord Zuko seems to be ... completely wrong. (Also, he's really handsome. Why does he have to be handsome?)
mythology nerds come get y’all juice. a very good fic. 10/10
2. Where I Want to Be by through-the-stars-to-the-pavement status: WIP (83k words) rating: explicit pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: "'The fog was where I wanted to be.'" Everything is different. The pitch of his voice, his posture. The auditorium goes silent. No one can take their eyes off of him.… He's amazing.  Zuko had to perfect the art of acting as a child to survive the horrors of his homelife. When he got older, it was only natural to take his talent to the stage for entertainment and escape. Enter Sokka, a craftsman and set designer with a giant heart who is haunted by plenty of ghosts of his own. A tale of trauma, disability, family, creativity, and love.
this is one of my all time favorite fics. it’s seriously so good and i think about it often
3. Teaching a Heart by @i-write-shakespeare-not-disney status: WIP (114k words) rating: teen and up pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: Sokka is asked to go to the Fire Nation to teach the crown prince how to sword fight. When he arrives, he's surprised to learn he has to pose as a companion before he can teach the stubborn prince because he rejects every teacher. Far from home and among new customs, Sokka struggles to gain the prince's trust and friendship despite the uncertainties of the customs and dynamics he sees. As he slowly finds answers to his questions, his bond with the prince grows until it becomes something far more ardent than friendship. Doomed as it may be with the prince's approaching wedding ceremony and coronation, Sokka and Zuko find themselves consumed by what they find in each other.
i have no words, i just love this fic and it makes me weep.
4. The Road Between Action and Inaction by @donvex status: complete (17k words) rating: teen and up pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: Sokka does a shitty k turn in the parking lot across from the bus station, pulls up to the curb where the boy is looking determinedly at his phone, and rolls down the passenger window. “Hey! Which way were you going?” He may die, but at least his conscience will be clear. The guy blinks at him. “Don’t.” Oh, he’s prickly. Or: the hitchhiker au, featuring Sokka and Zuko falling in love without even realizing it.
a classic. roadtrip fics own my ass.
5. purrfect for eachother by lesmiserablol status: complete (3k words) rating: general audiences pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: “Let me teach you how to be a cat person,” Zuko says. “Learning from the master himself,” Sokka grins. “Alright, this can’t be too hard. Show me what you got.” (because sometimes, it takes going to a cat café four times to realize you're in love with your best friend)
this whole series is adorable, reading it is self care
6. Ashes Inside When You Finish Your Song by @muncaster status: complete (47k words) rating: teen and up pairing(s): sokka/zuko, aang/katara, mai/ty lee summary: Sokka writes lyrics for his sister’s band. Zuko plays piano and is unnecessarily nice. Fellas, is it gay to write love songs about your friend and his golden eyes? (AKA, a modern band AU featuring The Gaang, crappy software equipment, homoerotic lyrics, and the realization that maybe, if you think about a guy every night before you sleep, you just might be in love with him.)
i think this is the longest one-shot i’ve ever read and it’s so worth it
7. a study in matchmaking by @verdanthoney status: complete (12k words) rating: general audiences pairing(s): sokka/zuko, aang/katara, bato/hakoda summary: Zuko and Sokka try to play matchmaker, but things don't go exactly as planned.
this fic makes me want to scream, in the best way. it’s so cute
8. A Predictable Story by mindbending status: complete (7k words) rating: general audiences pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: "On this night, you shall share a kiss with a great love of your life!” That lying, scummy Aunt Wu predicts a grand romance for Sokka. To disprove her "fortunetelling" once and for all, Sokka decides to spend the night with least romantic person he knows. Zuko.
again, i have no words. this fic is cute as hell
9. that’s murder, buddy by @bisexual-atla status: WIP (14k words) rating: teen and up pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: Throughout the streets, on quiet nights, it was rumored the screams of those missing could be heard. Some say the sounds were coming from underground. Where were the young girls? And what was happening to them? Was an evil spirit haunting Gaoling, or something more human? More sinister? My name is Zuko, and you’re tuning into another episode of ‘That’s Murder, Buddy’. Or: Sokka has no idea that his crush is the host of his favorite podcast. (But everyone else knows.)
i love the entire concept of this one, we love oblivious sokka
10. We’ll play hide and seek (to turn this around) by @crosspin status: complete (5k words) rating: general audiences pairing(s): sokka/zuko, bato/hakoda summary: Sokka gave him a sheepish smile. “It’s…well, you see, there’s this boy…” Hakoda sighed and set down the sports section. This was going to take a while. “He works at Barnes & Noble. At the big information desk in the middle. Every Saturday. And I really want to ask him for his number, but it’s super awkward because there’s always this other guy working the information desk at the same time. He’s old, like you. But I have a plan." Sokka’s eyes lit up deviously. “You come with me to Barnes & Noble today when they’re working and distract the old man. And while you have him distracted, I’ll swoop in and get the goods!” Sokka has a plan to ask out the cute boy at the bookstore. Hakoda is a begrudging participant until he meets the boy's beautiful older coworker.
this fic!! this fic! adorable, incredible, magnificent
11. feels like we only go backwards by @oldpotatoe status: WIP (88k words) rating: teen and up pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: [Time passes oddly. Between one second and the next, Sokka has the Fire Lord pinned to the wall with his hands around the bastard’s throat. Golden eyes (one gold eye, his mind whispers) widen in shock. “Sokka?” he chokes out. And then he smiles. What the fuck? “Sokka, I—” Sokka slams his head against the wall, once, twice, and the smile wipes off his face. Good. “What,” Sokka bites out, “have you done to my sister?”] Or: An injury leaves Sokka with amnesia. His last memory is of the failed invasion, of leaving his father behind in enemy territory on the Day of Black Sun. Of hopelessness. Rage. But then he wakes up, and the war is over. Suddenly, he must come to terms with the fact that years have passed, and that he's somehow the Southern Water Tribe Ambassador to the Fire Nation. He is also supposedly friends with banished-Prince-turned-Fire-Lord Zuko, of all people. Close friends. Yeah, nah.
if you’ve been following me for a while you know this fic fucks me up beyond belief
12. breakable heaven by @fruitysokka status: WIP (43k words) rating: teen and up pairing(s): sokka/zuko summary: With his twenty-first birthday looming just around the corner, the Southern Water Tribe Elders have decided that Sokka, next in line to be Chief, needs to get married. Sokka does not want that, but he does need to get them off his back until he can figure his way out of it. What better way to do that than to pretend to date his best friend (and newly minted Ambassador to the Southern Water Tribe) Zuko? Seriously, this is a foolproof plan. Maybe one of Sokka's best. Absolutely nothing can go wrong.
this just in: sokka and zuko being oblivious makes me want to yell
this turned out a bit longer than i expected but it also doesn’t even cover all my favorites. i had to stop somewhere, or i’d be here forever. maybe i’ll make a part two someday.
anyway, enjoy!

KW 2021: Missing Scenes
Day 3 for Kataang Week 2021 hosted by @kataang-week with the prompt Missing Scenes!
This was arguably the most obvious way to go about this prompt but I wanted to write it anyways because if there’s one missing scene that should’ve been included in the series, it’s something to bridge the gap between EIP and Sozin’s Comet.
Links: AO3 | FF.net
Summary: Another year, another summer, another week of prompts celebrating our favorite couple. Kataang Week 2021 Day 3: Missing Scenes. Bridging the gap between the Ember Island Players and Sozin’s Comet Series Finale.
Word Count: 2.8K
It was another cool night on Ember Island. The moon was beginning to rise and was lighting up the corridors and central courtyard while the Gaang got some food to replenish themselves after a long day of training and preparations.
Sozin’s Comet was a mere few days away, and tensions were higher than ever. Earlier that day, the true plans of the Firelord had been revealed: that he was planning to use the comet to wipe out the Earth Kingdom entirely, which meant that Aang had to face him on the doomsday itself at the latest. It was a challenge he felt none too prepared for.
He thought that he was going to get more time to master his earth and firebending, but with this newest revelation, it was pretty clear this was not the case, and the stress was beginning to get to the young airbender.
The practice battle against Toph posing as the Melonlord had Aang’s stomach tied in knots. Before today, the final fight seemed so distant, almost inconceivable, something that he would only have to do when he was absolutely ready for it. But now? It was coming, and it was coming fast, and Aang had no idea how to handle it.
The boy hadn’t really thought about what he would do when he finally faced Ozai. He assumed that by the time he mastered all four elements, the solution would be obvious, but it wasn’t. Everyone else seemed convinced that killing him was the only option, but that went against everything Aang had been taught by the monks. It didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel like him. How was he supposed to do something so drastic when he didn’t even believe in it? There had to be another way, something he was missing, there just had to be!
“I have a surprise for everyone!” Katara called as she walked into the clearing, immediately snapping Aang out of his intense thoughts. He briefly glanced up from the plate of food in front of him as everyone’s eyes turned to the crimson-clad waterbender, a rolled up tan scroll in her hands.
“I knew it!” Toph exclaimed. She grinned devilishly as she looked up from her wooden bowl of rice. “You did have a secret thing with Haru!”
Sokka, Suki, Zuko, and Katara all blinked at her in confusion and gave the blind earthbender a bewildered look, unsure of where her supposed epiphany came from.
“Uh…” the waterbender responded slowly as the others returned to their meals. “No. I was looking for cooking pots in the attic and I found this.”
She unfurled the parchment in her hands, making a slight swish noise.
“Look at baby Zuko,” she cooed. “Isn’t he cute?”
The paper in her hands was in fact a painting showing a happy, bright-eyed cherub of a baby laughing as he played on the beach. He looked to be quite young, having only a tiny topknot on his head and a mere two teeth in his small mouth while a tiny shovel and sandcastle lay on the ground next to him.
Everyone except for Zuko laughed and “aww”d at the adorable picture while the firebender stared at the others gravely.
“Oh, lighten up,” Katara admonished when she noticed his lack of response. “I’m just teasing.”
“That’s not me,” the firebender said, opening his eyes to look at her. “It’s my father.”
The Gaang looked on in shock as Katara rolled the scroll back up. They were all wondering the same thing- how could such a precious baby have become the most cruel man on the planet?
“But he looks so sweet and innocent,” Suki frowned, her voice faltering.
“Well, that sweet little kid grew up to be a monster,” Zuko spat. “And the worst father in the history of fathers.”
“But he’s still a human being.”
Everyone turned to look at the source of the voice. Aang’s back was hunched over his tray of rice and beans a few feet away from them, and a deep frown rested on his normally cheery features.
“You’re going to defend him?” Zuko questioned.
“No,” Aang clarified. “I agree with you.”
“Firelord Ozai is a horrible person, and the world would probably be better off without him,” he said as he stood up and turned around to face them, “but there’s gotta be another way.”
“Like what?” Zuko deadpanned.
“I don’t know,” Aang shrugged. He turned his gaze down and away from the others, eyebrows tilted upwards in concentration, when an idea came to him.
“Maybe we can make some big pots of glue, and then I can use gluebending to stick his arms and legs together so he can’t bend anymore!” he said excitedly.
Zuko smiled sarcastically. “Yeah, then you can show him his baby pictures, and all those happy memories will make him good again.”
“Do you really think that would work?” Aang asked eagerly, oblivious to Sokka and Suki snickering behind the firebender.
“No!”
Aang sighed heavily and hung his head in defeat. He needed to find another solution, think out of the box somehow. He stared at the ground for a few moments in exasperation before hopping down the stone steps to pace under a hanging orange lamp in the courtyard.
“This goes against everything I learned from the monks,” he said, walking back and forth. “I can’t just go around wiping out people I don’t like!”
“Sure you can!” Sokka interjected from the sidelines. “You’re the Avatar! If it’s in the name of keeping balance I’m pretty sure the universe will forgive you.”
Aang’s arms and slumped upper body shook violently with rage.
“This isn’t a joke, Sokka!” he shouted. “None of you understand the position I’m in!”
How could they, after all? They hadn’t been at the Air Temples a century ago. They hadn’t been raised by the Nomads to be peaceful and treat every life as sacred. He was the last of his people, and somehow none of them could see that. To them it was the simplest decision in the world- just get it over with and save the world, but it wasn’t to Aang. It wasn’t as cut and dry as that.
“Aang, we do understand,” the waterbender frowned. “It’s just-”
“Just what, Katara? What?”
“We’re trying to help!” she said angrily, her temper also rising.
“Then, when you figure out a way for me to beat the Fire Lord without taking his life, I'd love to hear it!”
Aang raised his arms in frustration with the last few words and stormed off in the direction of his room, feet stomping loudly against the stone floor.
“Aang, don’t walk away from this,” Katara began as she made a movement to follow him.
Zuko put a hand on her shoulder, and the waterbender faltered, turning towards him.
“Let him go,” he said quietly. “He needs time to sort it out by himself.”
The waterbender huffed in indignation and began walking towards her own room.
“I’m going to turn in early tonight,” she muttered, arms wrapped around her torso. “Good night, guys.”
“Good night,” the rest of them mumbled back, all but Zuko turning their attention back to dinner. The firebender scrutinized her receding figure as Katara turned the corner and went down the left hall to her room. He knew she was likely going to talk with him anyways that night, but the least he could do was make sure she gave the airbender enough space to cool down.
After a few minutes of glaring at the corridor, Zuko turned back to the ragtag team of misfits and their lively voices. Though he had been traveling with Team Avatar for some time now, the way they managed to turn the subject of conversation to the Earth King’s bear Bosco in such a short amount of time would forever be a mystery to him, but nevertheless he listened attentively and heard from them all the latest exploits of what went on beyond Fire Nation borders.
Meanwhile, true to her word, Katara went back to her room and attempted to sleep, but it was an effort in vain. The last few days had been weighing heavily on her- she and Aang had never experienced such a tumultuous period in their friendship before, and between the kiss during the play and the past ten minutes, it was safe to say there was some tension.
She closed her eyes and groaned, tossing and turning to try and find a comfortable position to no avail. She just couldn’t take her mind off it. Katara stared at the ceiling and let out a short huff before sitting back up with a new fire in her eyes. She wasn’t going to sit around, no, she was going to face her problems head on like a rock!
“Toph would be so proud,” Katara chuckled as she wrapped her kimono on over her bindings.
With as much stealth as she could muster, Katara carefully opened the door from her room and crept down the hallway until she was facing the entrance to Aang’s.
She stared at the block of wood intently. It almost seemed like a cruel metaphor- the barrier between her and Aang not only physically, but emotionally as well.
Nevertheless, Katara was here to get things done.
The waterbender didn’t want to knock and alert everyone else of what she was doing, but she also didn’t want to show up unannounced and startle Aang. After a few minutes of careful consideration, Katara concluded that the latter was the lesser of the two evils, and she slowly pushed the handle and entered his room.
In the very back, she saw Aang’s silhouette in the partially open paper divider splitting the balcony from the main room. Katara walked closer to him, and she sat down silently at the opening of the divider when she saw him in deep concentration. He had been meditating with four small candles, some water, and some rice buns on a wooden board in front of him. The dim light of the candles highlighted Aang’s tense features, contorted in frustration.
“I know you’re there, Katara,” the airbender said after a few moments, apparently not as concentrated as she thought. “I could hear your footsteps from a mile away.”
The girl blushed furiously in embarrassment and promptly decided the floor was the most fascinating thing she had ever seen.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt,” Katara apologized. “I just wanted to talk but I get if you’re busy-”
Aang sighed and bowed his head in reverence to the spirits before opening his eyes and turning to look at her with a kind expression.
“It’s alright. Meditating wasn’t really getting me anywhere anyways,” he said sheepishly. “What did you want to talk about?”
Katara twisted a lock of hair around her finger and scooted closer to him.
“I’m not here to lecture you or anything. I’m not here to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do because ultimately it’s up to you and only you. You’re under a lot of stress right now, and I get that. I just don’t want, well, us,” she gestured between them, “to be a part of that stress.”
The airbender laughed nervously and looked at the trees around them to avoid her gaze. He subtly wiped his growingly sweaty hands on his cotton shirt, praying to all the spirits that she wasn’t talking about what he thought she was talking about.
“W-w-what do you mean? You, me, we’re f-friends! Good friends! Th-that’s all there is to it, right?”
“I’m talking about last night at the play,” Katara responded quietly, fingers fidgeting around in her lap. “We should talk about it.”
“Thanks a lot, spirits,” Aang groaned internally. He sighed and tucked his knees into his body.
“I think we both made it pretty clear that we want different things, Katara. It’s alright, really,” he said with a sad smile. “I made a mistake kissing you, especially after you already said you were confused, and I’m sorry. You don’t have to worry about me- I’ll get over it. I just don’t want to lose your friendship. I’d rather we just pretend like it never happened.”
The regret in his eyes was as clear as a full moon against the backdrop of a cloudless night sky, and it killed Katara from within to see it.
“We both said a lot of things that night, Aang,” she frowned. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot the last day, and I didn’t explain myself very well.”
Aang looked at her hesitantly, silently pleading with her to continue. The waterbender tried her hardest not to grin when she saw his unintentional yet extremely endearing puppy dog eyes and instead threw her head back to look at the stars above them.
“I don’t want to lose your friendship either, Aang,” Katara murmured, gazing up at the sky. “You’re the first person I’ve known from outside my tribe, the first other bender I’ve met- you showed me the world. You were my first real friend, and... also my first kiss, first three actually.”
Heat rushed up to their cheeks while Aang became very invested in the wooden flooring, eyes fully concentrated on the patterns of the boards .
“...but more than that,” Katara continued, “you’re the first person I’ve cared for this much, and my brain, my heart, really, doesn’t quite know how to feel about that.”
She tilted her head to the side to look at the boy next to her, who was now also staring at her with newfound hope.
“So yeah,” she exhaled loudly, “I’m confused. But I don’t want to pretend like none of that night ever happened, because if I’m being honest, a part of me wanted all of the… all of our kisses to happen.”
The two sat in silence for a few moments while Aang tried to process her words and formulate his own response.
“So…” Aang trailed off. “Does that mean this, us, still has a chance?”
Katara looked at their intertwined hands and gave him a sad smile.
“Maybe, but that’s just it, Aang. We can’t, not right now.”
The airbender’s cautious smile immediately dropped and was replaced by a frown as he broke eye contact.
“We’re in a war,” she murmured apologetically. “No one, especially not us, can afford to do anything differently. In three days, you’re going to be facing the Firelord, which means in three days, one way or another, this war will be over, and sacrifices will probably be made.”
“Katara, you’re not saying-”
She shook her head. “I’m not saying that, but war means making hard decisions, and in that moment, with that decision, we can’t let emotions cloud our judgement. No matter what sacrifices might be made, we have to end this before it’s too late.”
“I’ll make sure it doesn’t come to that,” Aang said firmly. “I don’t care what it takes.”
Katara smiled at him and leaned in to gently press a kiss to his cheek.
“I know you won’t. I also know that whatever happens with the Firelord, you’ll do the right thing. Not because you’re the Avatar and you have to, but because you’re Aang. Because you’re my Aang, and my Aang always does the right thing.”
The airbender let out a breath of relief, heart practically glowing at her faith in him, and enveloped her in an embrace.
“Thank you, Katara. For everything. For being here for me the last few months, for getting me out of that iceberg, for coming here tonight telling me what I really needed to hear. It means a lot.”
Katara happily returned the hug and squeezed him tight. “Of course, Aang.”
She furrowed her eyebrows when she noticed the circles under his eyes as they broke apart.
“It’s getting late,” Katara whispered, her fingertips lightly tracing his cheeks.
“I’ll leave you to all this-” she gestured to the candles and food, staring quizzically at the contents of the board. “-Avatar business and whatnot. I wish you the best of luck.”
“Thanks, I’ll try my best,” Aang laughed softly as the girl stood up and began walking back to her room. “Good night, Katara. Sweet dreams.”
“I know you will, Aang. Good night and don’t stay up too late- you’ll need your rest.”
The waterbender quietly exited and Aang released a heavy sigh as the door closed with a soft thud.
The airbender turned back to his spread, closed his eyes once more, and resumed his meditation, hoping that somehow, by some miracle, there was another way waiting for him.
“I sure hope you’re right, Katara. I’ll need that luck.”

Hi! I’ve just found your blog and will you marry me?!? AANG CONTENT?!?? ! I saw the requests open and if you’re still open for them could I request a Zuko x reader? Zukos been awed by readers sheer power over and over cus he’s a sucker for strong women. And when he joins the gaang he is soo smitten with the reader and every one sees it but the oblivious reader. And he enventually asks for everyone’s help but during the ember island play she finds out cause they over dramatize his big crush?
Awww! We should probably meet before getting married lol  Sorry for taking so long with the request, life has been kicking my butt. Here you go! c:
As a former citizen of a small village in the Earth Kingdom, you always longed for adventure and there weren’t many ways to leave your family farm. Or at least not without having to take something from them, and you had refused to. You knew they had little enough already.
But it was different one day, after meeting the avatar himself and his friends. As an earthbender, you weren’t sure where you could go but you wanted to go everywhere. And if you could beat up some Fire Nation soldiers, then you would be having the time of your life.
You had gone into the market for some feed for the lone ostrich horse, and a few of the Fire Nation soldiers had caught wind of the avatar. You were sure that he could actually take them down himself, but you weren’t exactly going to test that theory, and you trapped them in pillars of earth before helping the group out of the market and towards your family farm.
That was how you had met them anyway, and you had asked to join them that day. You hadn’t exactly expected them to say yes either, but they had, and you were overjoyed. So were they, but you assumed that Katara was more or less just glad to not be the only girl there.
Shortly after you joined however, the adventure you always wanted seemed to be a bit much at times.
First, there was the general that actively tried to get Aang into the avatar state and had put all of you in danger for it. Then there were the nomads that you had wanted to leave in the tunnels, you couldn’t believe how carefree they could be in the middle of a war. Even after all that your group had done to get into Omashu, you all found out that the Fire Nation had overtaken it and that Aang had to find an earthbending teacher himself. You offered, but you still had much to learn for it yourself.
And your least favorite place happened to be the swamp. Everyone there had visions of some person they already met and lost or in Aang’s case, were going to meet. You however, had a vision of your family. You had left them, and who knows if you would see them again, but you kept reminding yourself that it was okay, and they understood why you did.
The next place was some odd avatar-hating village, and Aang got arrested. But it was okay, because the day had ended with him out of prison, you beating up some soldiers, and some weird dough-like thing that you immediately spat out after tasting.
In another Earth Kingdom town, your group had gone to an underground earthbending tournament which you had a blast watching. You had wanted to participate as well, but ended up following the rest of them as they looked for the Blind Bandit. The day went well, considering Aang had managed to get an earthbending teacher and so had you, despite her parents originally saying no. You had assumed that her parents never changed her mind like she said, having done the same thing with your own.
After Toph had joined, there was a strange metal contraption constantly following them by way of Appa’s fur trail. It had turned out to be the Fire Nation princess herself, and her two nonbending but still dangerous friends. You had helped Sokka and Katara with the other two that you had yet to learn the names of, while Aang was dealing with the last one. There was a fight because of course there was, you were starting to wonder just how many more fights you would have to go through in this. That was not to say you didn’t like to fight. You excelled at it.
That had also been the first time you had actually met the Prince Zuko that had literally followed them around the nations, and the first thing you wanted to know was where his ponytail had gone. Sokka had made sure to tell you all about it, but had left out the fact that he could actually be considered attractive, not that you would say that part out loud, and especially not when he was your enemy as well.
You had definitely been thrown for a loop when Azula had shot Iroh with lightning, only for Zuko to refuse help from any of you, even though Katara would have been the only one able to actually help.
Your second least favorite place was the desert, even though you thought the library had been amazing, apart from Wan Shi Tong getting upset that you guys had actually only come to learn how to defeat the Fire Nation. But Appa had gone missing, and you were absolutely convinced none of that was Toph’s fault. Another part of the desert that you didn’t like much were the buzzard wasps, but at least you had begun learning how to bend sand, which was definitely odd.
On your way to Ba Sing Se, they ended up meeting a few old friends of theirs, the Kyoshi Warriors and you had been quick to introduce yourself as well. Mostly since you had grown up hearing about them, and how amazing they would be, you really aspired to be more like them.
Of course, the ticket lady wouldn’t let any of you get onto the ferry without passports, and Toph had managed to get all of you, only for the group to go the other route to Ba Sing Se when a pregnant lady and her husband had mentioned that their things were stolen. The Serpent’s Pass, you thought was aptly named when going through it. The serpent was terrifying, and you severely hoped that you wouldn’t have to go that way again.
But at least you had made it through before Ying had her baby, which you thought was surprising considering she was quite far along. She asked you if you wanted to hold her, and you declined, having held more babies in your life than you probably would have liked, not to mention you hadn’t particularly wanted to hold any more. At least for now.
The new family had separated from you and your own group when you finally reached Ba Sing Se, only to find out that the Fire Nation trio was back again and they were trying to take down the wall with another metal thing. You had been helping Toph and Katara bend the awful rock and water combination and successfully kept a few of them back that way.
Ba Sing Se was a horrible city in your opinion, the Dai Li only being a part of it, but you were having a big issue with how the poor had less opportunities and the like.
You were partially glad when you left with the group, but heavily concerned for the avatar you’d come to think of as a younger brother. He had been shot with lightning and actually died, it was a miracle when Katara had healed him.
The weeks passing seemed to grow longer and longer, and nobody said it but everyone could tell that there was a lot of concern and worry for Aang when he hadn’t woke up. You spent your days learning how to bend metal like Toph, and it had taken you a while to even start.
Once he was awake however, you had to leave the boats you’d grown somewhat accustomed to and wait for the solar eclipse to grow nearer.
Unfortunately where you had to wait happened to be in the Fire Nation itself, and you hadn’t exactly wanted for more red in your wardrobe but it couldn’t be helped.
The next month or so, you weren’t sure how long it actually had been and couldn’t be bothered to remember, Katara had helped a coast village with its sick by posing as a river spirit and had even blown up a Fire Nation factory with Aang and finally scared the soldiers away from the town by continuing the ruse. Sokka had acquired a master of his own and made his own sword out of a piece of rock that fell from the sky. Toph had been scamming people in town, occasionally with your help but you ended up stopping when you thought that it would be too obvious. Katara had ended up finding another Southern Water Tribe bender, but unfortunately due to decades of being in prison had gone mad and had been kidnapping innocent people and trapping them under a mountain.
Hama had actually terrified you more than anything else had, but you couldn’t help but pity her at first. Your empathy had been shut off when you saw how Katara had to bloodbend her that night, and how upset she was.
The day of the invasion had been off to a good start, but it had been cut short when everyone learned that the Fire Nation already knew of the solar eclipse and had planned for it.
All of you had regrouped, apart from the adults that had gotten arrested for being a part of the invasion, and had gone to the Western Air Temple. Having never gone to any of the air temples yourself, you had quite a bit of fun exploring this one.
When the prince himself appeared and offered to be Aang’s firebending teacher, you wanted to throw a rock in his face and probably would’ve, had anyone else started a fight. It had been his choice to join his sister in Ba Sing Se, and now he wanted to join the group that he’d been chasing this entire time? Needless to say, you held a grudge against him, and you wouldn’t hesitate to earthbend him to the edge of the cliff if he tried anything.
The next day however, Toph returned with burned feet and Zuko had come back yet again. After his apologies, Aang had accepted him as his firebending teacher shortly after that.
It seemed like everyone but the ones that could earthbend had gone on a field trip with him, oddly enough, when Aang and Zuko had gone to learn real firebending, then it was Sokka and Zuko apparently breaking Hakoda and Suki out of prison but they also brought back a prisoner named Chit Sang too. Then it was Katara’s turn, and she went with him to confront the man who killed her mother. Thankfully, she hadn’t killed him.
Instead of camping out, Zuko had offered up a new place to sleep at, and it was a house that apparently no one goes anymore. You were a little weirded out at the thought of it, and Katara thought so too.
“Doesn’t it seem weird that we’re living in the Fire Lord’s own house?
“I told you, my father hasn’t come here since our family was actually happy. And that was a long time ago. It’s the last place anyone would think to look for us.”
“True, but still weird.” You piped up, doing your own stretches as the two firebenders had finished with their training.
“You guys are not gonna believe this. There’s a play about us.” Sokka said, walking out onto the courtyard with Suki, holding a rolled up poster, looking awfully smug.
“We were just in town, and we found this poster.” Suki continued, while Sokka rolled out the poster and held it up so all of you could see it.
“What? How is that possible?”
“Listen to this.” Sokka started, before beginning to read off the poster itself. “The boy in the iceberg is a new production from acclaimed playwright Puan Tin who scoured the globe, gathering information on the avatar from the icy South Pole to the heart of Ba Sing Se. His sources include singing nomads, pirates, prisoners of war, and a surprisingly knowledgeable merchant of cabbage.”
“Brought to you by the critically acclaimed Ember Island players.” Suki finished, before Zuko began to groan.
“Ugh. My mother used to take us to see them. They butchered “Love Amongst the Dragons” every year.”
“Sokka, do you really think it’s a good idea for us to attend a play about ourselves?”
“Come on, a day at the theater? This is the kind of wacky, time-wasting nonsense I;ve been missing.” And with that answer, you all headed out to the theater to see whatever play this would end up being.
Upon arriving, you all settled down into the seats, Katara sitting next to Toph and you sitting next to her, much to Aang’s disappointment, you were sure. You expected Aang to just sit down next to you, but no, Zuko had.
“Why are we sitting in the nosebleed section? My feet can’t see a thing from up here.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll tell your feet what’s happening.” Katara answered to Toph, while your gaze was awaiting on the curtains.
They opened to show what was supposed to Katara and Sokka on a boat in the sea, back in the South Pole you assumed. You almost laughed at Sokka’s excitement to notice the two when he grabbed his sister’s shoulder and pointed from each other back and forth.
“Sokka, my only brother.” The fake Katara let out a sigh, dramatically gesturing to the painted “ice glaciers” on her side. “We constantly roam these icy south pole seas, and yet, never do we find anything fulfilling.”
“All I want is a full feeling in my stomach. I’m starving.” ‘Sokka’ responded, making the real Katara and Sokka give each other a look as the audience burst into laughter.
“Is food the only thing that’s on your mind?”
“Well, I’m trying to get it out of my mind and in my mouth. I’m starving.”
“Is that all that guy says?” You grimaced, starting to dread when your character showed up.
“This is pathetic. My jokes are way funnier than this.” Sokka exclaimed, while Toph laughed at him.
“I think he’s got you pegged.” With that, the rest of you turned back to the play.
“Every day, the world awaits a beacon to guide us, yet none appears. Still, we cannot give up hope, for hope is all we have and we must never relinquish it, even. . . Even to our dying breath.” Fake Katara began to sob, and you drew in a breath through your teeth when Katara crossed her arms.
“Well, that’s just silly. I don’t sound like that.”
“You have your moments.” You admitted, but even you would agree that this was an exaggeration for sure.
“Oh man, this writer’s a genius.” At least Toph was having fun.
“It appears to be someone frozen in ice, perhaps for 100 years.” ‘Katara’ said, when a light shone down onto a floating iceberg.
“But who? Who is the boy in the iceberg?” Fake Sokka asked, the two climbing up the iceberg.
“Waterbend, hi-ya!” Fake Katara cried out, drawing her hand down as if to actually crack the ‘iceberg’ herself, only for it to break and reveal fake Aang, whose actor was a girl apparently.
“Who are you, frozen boy?
“I’m the avatar, silly, here to spread joy and fun.” ‘Aang’ giggled, and you looked to the avatar himself, only to see him frowning deeply.
“Wait, is that a woman playing me?” He asked, right as a fake Appa showed up and went around the iceberg in a circle while fake Katara gasped.
“An airbender. My heart is so full of hope that it’s making me tear-bend.” She began to fake sob, falling to her knees and grabbing onto fake Aang’s leg.
“My stomach is so empty that it’s making me tear-bend.” Fake Sokka cried out, falling to his knees as well and grabbing onto ‘Aang’s’ other leg. “I need meat.” With that, you really couldn’t help but laugh, even when both Katara and Sokka were beginning to glare at you.
“But wait! Is that a platter of meaty dumplings?” The actress for Aang mentioned, pointing up at nothing in particular.
“Ooh, where, where?” ‘Sokka’ quickly asked, only for ‘Aang’ to start laughing.
“Did I mention that I’m an incurable prankster?”
“I don’t do that. That’s not what i’m like. And I’m not a woman.”
“Oh they nailed you, Twinkletoes.” Toph joked, laughing at the play as she basically had been this entire time.
A new boat showed up on the stage, this time carrying Zuko and his uncle.
“Prince Zuko, you must try this cake.” ‘Iroh’ offered, while fake Zuko was looking out at sea with a telescope.
“I don’t have time to stuff my face. I must capture the avatar to regain my honor.”
“Well, while you do that, maybe I’ll capture another slice.” Fake Iroh said, before literally shoving the cake into his face and eating.
“You sicken me.” ‘Zuko’ said, with a disgusted look on his face, and you let out a laugh.
“They make me look totally stiff and humorless.”
“Actually, I think that actor’s pretty spot-on.” Katara joked, and Zuko had been quick to turn to her.
“How could you say that?
“Let’s forget about the avatar and get massages.”
“How could you say that?” Fake Zuko cried out at Iroh’s suggestion, only for you to laugh when you saw the look on Zuko’s face.
The scene panned out to show Aang the actress at the Southern Air Temple, with a tail sticking out of the fake bushes.
“Hey, look! I think I found something.” Fake Aang kept digging into the bushes, only to come back out with a fake puppet of Momo on his shoulder and a fake arm hanging from his side. “A flying rabbit-monkey! I think I’ll name him Momo.” He laughed, before moving the puppet so it would look like it was talking.
“Hi, everybody. I love you.” At the sight of it, both you and Aang let out a low groan. Momo did not deserve this slander.
With another scene, it showed a Kyoshi Warrior, which you assumed was supposed to be Suki before ‘Sokka’ came out, dressed in the same Kyoshi Warrior ensemble.
“Does this dress make my butt look fat?” He said, making the real Suki laugh, as you turned to look at the couple.
“So nobody told me you were a Kyoshi Warrior? I do have a question though. Did you look as good as Suki does?” You couldn’t help but tease him, although this was definitely bringing up some topics that you had missed out on.
The scene changed yet again, but this time was showing what was supposed to be King Bumi. Was he really that buff?
“Riddles and challenges must you face if you are ever to leave this place.” It showed fake Aang pushing a boulder, fake Sokka running from a gorilla rabbit, and fake Katara groaning as she was trapped in crystals.
It cut to a different part of the play, showing a pirate boat and pirates began to surround the trio. The pirates continued to fight each other as the trio actually got out quite safely.
“Why did you have to steal that waterbending scroll?” Fake Sokka asked as they crept away from the pirates.
“It just gave me so much hope.” Fake Katara answered, sobbing yet again.
“I really hope my character isn’t as bad.” You added, wearing a grimace, since you knew Katara didn’t cry nearly as many times as this one made her out to be like.
“The avatar is mine!” Fake Zuko cried out, while fake Aang was chained to a wall with soldiers surrounding him. “Wait, who’s coming?” He pointed to a different part of the stage where a person with a large blue demon-like mask held dao swords.
“I am the blue spirit, the scourge of the Fire Nation, here to save the avatar.” He exclaimed, before the soldiers began to drop to the ground dramatically and he somehow defeated fake Zuko as well as simultaneously untying fake Aang.
“My hero.” ‘Aang’ said, before leaving the stage with the blue spirit.
The scene changed, and it showed a sobbing ‘Katara’ with a fake Jet, hanging from a rope.
“Don’t cry, baby. Jet will wipe out that nasty town for you.”
“Oh, Jet. You’re so bad.” Toph laughed, while Katara tried to hide her face, and you just lightly patted her shoulder with a slight look of pity.
“Look! It’s the Great Divide. The biggest canyon in the Earth Kingdom.” Aang mentioned, standing atop fake Appa.
“Eh, let’s keep flying.” Fake Sokka shrugged, while you only leaned back into your seat.
“Don’t go, Yue. You’re the only woman who’s ever taken my mind off of food.” The two actors dramatically kiss, before fake Sokka turns away with a gag. “Wait, did you have pickled fish for dinner?”
“Goodbye, Sokka. I have important moon duties to take care of. And yes, I did have pickled fish.” Fake Yue said, going up into the sky with the moon.
“You never told me you made out with the moon spirit.” Suki chuckled, and you glanced at the couple to see tears in Sokka’s eyes as he shushed her.
“Shh, I’m trying to watch.” Turning back to look at the stage, you saw the actress for Aang in a fish spirit costume, crushing fake fire Nation ships.
“The avatar is back to save the day! Yay!” He said, kicking and stomping on the rest of the fake ships before falling onto the floor as the curtains closed.
“So far, this intermission is the best part of the play.” Zuko mentioned when all of you sat on the steps outside of the theater.
“Apparently, the playwright thinks I’m an idiot who tells bad jokes about meat all the time.” Sokka angrily shoved jerky into his mouth, as Suki teased him.
“Yeah, you tell bad jokes about plenty of other topics.”
“I know!”
“At least the Sokka actor kind of looks like you. That woman playing the avatar doesn’t resemble at all.” Aang lamented, putting his hands over his head, as Toph shrugged.
“I don’t know. You are more in touch with your feminine side than most guys.” With that, Aang groaned and Katara interrupted when he stood up.
“Relax, Aang. They’re not accurate portrayals. It’s not like I’m a preachy crybaby who can’t resist giving over-emotional speeches about hope all the time.” Everyone had clearly been looking at her but nobody said a word, until she asked. “What?”
“Yeah, that’s not you at all.” Aang backed her up, sitting back down and rubbing the back of his neck.
“Listen, friends. It’s obvious that the playwright did his research. I know it must hurt, but what you’re seeing up there on that stage is the truth.” Toph offered, and you tilted your head.
“Not quite I don’t think, this is definitely exaggerated.”
As the group went back into the theater, the scene was apparently when you had met the group, seeing as it looked like your hometown.
“Well, here we are in the Earth Kingdom.”
“I’d better have a look around to see if I can find an earthbending teacher.”
“Hey, is that the avatar? Get him!” A Fire Nation soldier exclaimed, pointing at fake Aang, when fake you appeared on the stage.
“No, don’t take him! I need to leave this town and abandon my family forever!” ‘You’ cried out, fake earthbending the soldiers out before running with the group. “I don’t want to live on this farm anymore! I want to beat up people!”
You grimaced at their portrayal of you, but at least the actress looked somewhat like you, even if the personality was quite a bit off.
“That’s not. . Quite true.” You added, seeing fake you leave with the rest of them.
The scene was changed into another Earth Kingdom town, and you assumed this was where Toph showed up.
“Well, here we are in the Earth Kingdom again. So we can find an actual earthbending teacher.” Fake Katara repeated, the four of them standing next to a suspiciously large rock.
“This must be where I come in.” Toph whispered as fake Aang ‘flew’ around the audience with a rope.
“I flew all over town, but I couldn’t find a single earthbending master.”
“Here it comes.” Toph said, leaning forward in her seat.
“You can’t find an earthbending master in the sky. You have to look underground.” Fake Toph was apparently a very large and buff man, throwing the fake rock off stage. Which only caused everyone but Toph to start laughing, yourself included.
“Who are you?” Fake Aang asked, as fake Toph spat away from him, before proudly pointing to himself before beginning to flex his arms.
“My name’s Toph, because it sounds like tough, and that’s just what I am.”
“Wait a minute. I sound like a guy. A really buff guy.” Toph said, already starting to smile when Katara turned to her.
“Well Toph, what you hear up there is the truth. It hurts, doesn’t it?”
“Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t have cast it any other way. At least it’s not a flying bald lady.” Toph answered, making Aang frown as you bit back a snicker.
“So you’re blind?” ‘Aang’ asked, waving his hand in front of ‘Toph’.
“I can see you doing that. I see everything that you see, except I don’t see like you do. I release a sonic wave from my mouth.” Fake Toph explained before beginning to scream, causing everyone in the audience to flinch, apart from the actual Toph of course, who only grinned. “There. I got a pretty good look at you.”
The scene changed to show Iroh and Zuko who apparently had long hair now.
“Zuko, it’s time we had a talk about your hair. It’s gone too far.”
“Maybe it’s best if we split up.” Fake Zuko dramatically flipped his long hair as the two actors walked off the stage, only for everyone to come back with fake Azula as well.
“Azula, my sister, what are you doing here?”
“You caught me. Wait, what’s that? I think it’s your honor.” She said, pointing up and everyone in the cast looked away from her as she slipped away.
“Where?”
“She escaped. But how?” Fake Katara asked, and it switched to show Azula and Aang at the wall of Ba Sing Se with the drill.
“If she continues drilling, this wall will come down for sure.” Fake Aang said, throwing a fake rock at her.
“Yes, continue drilling. The city of Ba Sing Se can hide no longer.” Fake Azula said as ‘Aang’ continued throwing rocks, but it never showed how it ended as the scene changed to show a mind-controlled Jet.
“No, Jet, what did they do to you? Fake Aang cried out, dodging as fake Jet swung out with his hooks.
“Must serve Earth King. Must destroy!” He exclaimed as a fake rock fell onto him, before curling up underneath it so his body wouldn’t be showing.
“Did Jet just die?” Zuko asked, as Sokka answered, gesturing with his hands.
“You know, it was really unclear.”
“I have to admit, Prince Zuko, I really find you attractive.” Fake Katara said, now seemingly in the crystal caves of Ba Sing Se as fake you was looking for a way out, hardly paying any attention to the two.
“You don’t have to make fun of me.” The actor said, turning away and then turning back when fake Katara sat down onto the same rock as him.
“But I mean it. I’ve had eyes for you since the day you first captured me.” With that, you noticed the real Zuko and Katara briefly glance at each other with mildly disgusted looks as Aang frowned at the stage.
“Wait. I thought you were the avatar’s girl. And besides I’m in love with someone else.” Fake Zuko then said, beginning to walk away and very obviously looked towards fake you. ‘Katara’ laughed, before starting to say.
“The avatar? Why, he’s like a little brother to me. I certainly don’t think of him in a romantic way. Besides, how could he ever find out about this?” She hugged him, and you looked at the stage in confusion.
“There’s no way you two would do that.” You said, knowing for a fact that Katara was crushing on Aang, and she had already divulged that he kissed her the day of the invasion. “But what I don’t get is why the actor looks at me when he says he’s in love with someone else. What’s up with that?” You questioned, only to get radio silence from everyone there. You shrugged, figuring that you would weasel the answer out of someone later.
“Oh, you’re getting up? Can you get me some fire flakes?” Sokka asked Aang when he walked out of the theater after that debacle. “Oh, and fire gummies.”
“Well, my brother, what’s it going to be? Your nation or a life of treachery?” Fake Azula said, only for fake Zuko to contemplate things.
“Choose treachery. It’s more fun.” Fake Iroh said, drinking some tea as ‘Zuko’ walked over to him and paused.
“No way!” ‘Azula’ yelled before he pushed ‘Iroh’ over onto the ground and headed towards his sister’s side.
“I hate you, Uncle. You smell, and I hate you for all time!” As he left the stage with ‘Azula’, the Earth Kingdom flag fell onto the actor for Iroh.
“You didn’t really say that, did you?” Katara asked, and you frowned when Zuko answered.
“I might as well have.”
The next scene was Ty Lee and Mai taking over Ba Sing Se, only for Aang to appear out from behind the throne.
“Avatar state, yip-yip!” Fake Aang proceeded to be brought up from the stage by a rope as fake Azula appeared.
“Not if my lightning can help it.” A ribbon was thrown at the fake avatar who pretended to be electrocuted and fell to the floor. “The avatar is no more.” At that, the whole audience seemed to cheer, apart from your group.
You stretched during the intermission, thankful to be out of the seat.
“It seems like every time there’s a big battle, you guys barely make it out alive. I mean, you guys lose a lot.” Suki mentioned, only for her boyfriend to quickly respond.
“You’re one to talk, Suki, didn’t Azula take you captive? That’s right, she did.”
“Are you trying to get on my bad side?”
“I’m just saying.”
“Does anyone know where Aang is?” Katara interrupted the couple, and you hoped that the two might finally talk about how they feel.
“He left to get me fire gummies like ten minutes ago, and I’m still waiting.” Sokka complained, only for his sister to turn away from him.
“I’m gonna check outside.” She said, walking out of the theater, as a child dressed up as Aang pretended to fly around.
“Suki, what are the chances you can get me backstage? I got some jokes I want to give to the actor me.”
“I’m an elite warrior who’s trained for many years in the art of stealth. I think I could get you backstage.” And the two walk off, leaving you with Zuko and Toph.
“Well, I think I’m going to go check out how bad Sokka’s jokes are. Maybe you can tell her now.” Toph suggested, before following Suki and Sokka.
“Wait-” But you had cut Zuko off before he could continue.
“Tell me what?” Would someone finally tell you about why fake Zuko looked at you when he said he was in love with someone else?
“I-uh.. The actor wasn’t entirely wrong.” He partially confessed, only leaving you with more questions.
“Wrong about which part?” You simply couldn’t understand any bit of it.
“I’ve kind of been in love with you for a while.” He quickly answered, glancing at you to see your reaction before looking away.
“Wait what-” You said, only momentarily confused before shaking your head. You didn’t exactly understand why, and that’s exactly what you said. “Why? I don’t get it. There’s nothing special or anything about me.”
“You are far from ordinary, Y/N. You’re so strong and-”
“So what you’re telling me, you’re attracted to strong women?” You teased, oddly satisfied upon seeing the light pink of his cheeks as he groaned before letting out a sigh.
“Yeah.” He admitted, before continuing. “I even asked everyone for help with this.”
“Wait, is that why you had told me I was pretty the other day? And why I found flowers in front of my door the next morning?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I thought you were hot when we first met, so we’re even.” You shrugged, looking at him from the corner of your eye.
“Do you still think that?”
“What do you think?” You answered his question with a question, leaning closer to him until your faces were merely inches apart. “Y’know, I started training to get my mind off you.”
Just as your lips were almost touching, you had closed your eyes only to quickly open them and pull away when you heard a wolf-whistle.
“It’s about time!”

I would love to hear your thoughts/headcanons for bi Katara! Bi Zuko I get because *Will Smith poses at Jet* but I can't remember her having any interactions with girls (at least in AtLA) that could be read as romantic/sexual. Not that that's a prerequisite, I'm really just curious to hear what sold you on it.
I’ll be honest, a huge portion of it is ‘I’m bi, and I love Katara, and as she is my favorite character I get to decide her energy is bi af and I’m valid’. Another big part is ‘these assholes have made “homophobic katara” such a popular and widespread headcanon that if I have to drown it out with a million and one KATARA IS UNAPOLOGETICALLY BI, SHE LOVES GIRLS AND SHE LOVES BOYS AND SHE NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS THE SLIGHTEST BIT STRANGE posts then I fucking will’, particularly in light of the fact that I absolutely despise how a couple straight men decided to inject institutionalized homophobia into a fantasy world where there was absolutely no need for it, and where there’d been no real hint at it before the sequel series comics where it was revealed, so I reject it whole-heartedly (along with most of the comics tbh) and everyone is queer bc I make the rules and I fucking said so.
But also?
That sentence could easily be written like this: “I can’t remember her having any interactions with girls her age who weren’t a) her brother’s love interests, or b) trying to injure/kill her.” Because she really doesn’t. And even if you expand that to include Toph (who, while younger, is the same age as Aang, Katara’s canon love interest), well, Toph likewise had a crush on Katara’s brother.
Katara gets singled out as the Token Straight, while Toph and Suki get to be queer in fandom, despite the fact that neither of them had any interactions with other girls that could be read as romantic either (which, again, is an issue with the show itself--it’s great that there are multiple amazing female characters, but the lack of interaction between them is a little telling; the only real female friendship we have an example of other than Toph and Katara is the snarl of abusive dynamics between Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee, none of whom get any real narrative focus other than Azula at certain points, because they aren’t main characters--meanwhile there are multiple friendships between male characters to choose from just amongst the gaang), and it’s hard to look at that and not see elements of racialized misogyny, particularly given the fandom’s clear disdain for katara during this recent renaissance. Why is the darkest-skinned girl the one the fandom comes down on, often derisively, as the Token Straight, and also the Token Homophobe? Why is Katara the one that fandom decided to hate for how often she mentions her mom, the source of her greatest trauma (and yes, Katara’s trauma here is worse than Sokka’s--he may have lost his mom too, but a) he didn’t see her dead body, nor was he saddled with the guilt of not having gotten back fast enough to save her, or the additional hit Katara took when she had it confirmed that her mom died to protect her, and b) he had Katara there to step up and take their mom’s place as family caretaker, a luxury Katara did not have), when Zuko is over there mentioning his honor even more often and fandom loves him for it, because even the jokes about it are affectionate?
Anyway, I kind of went off on a tangent here, but the bottom line is--Katara is bi because I said so. She just has that energy, a disaster bisexual on the opposite end of the disaster bi spectrum from Zuko. She looks at a pretty girl and thinks she wants to dance with her until their hearts are racing so fast she feels like she might explode, and then she looks at a pretty boy and thinks his lips seem like they must be soft and warm and his smirk makes her toes curl, and when she realizes she’s attracted to someone she goes bright red in the face and even the softest brush of their hand against hers makes her blood pound in her ears and she gets distracted every time their eyes meet and everyone else just knows, especially Toph who can always tell when her heart is racing.
Katara is a bi disaster and I love that for her, and I will never budge on this headcanon. Anyone who disagrees with me is simply wrong and that is that.

Zukka Fluff <3
Protective!Sokka, Fluffy Zukka
Just a short drabble of these two lovelies being emotional on main; also, Sokka finds out how Zuko got his scar.
I hope you like it! Please lmk what you think, I’d love to hear!! <3
They were laying out under the stars, Zuko’s head cushioned by Sokka’s chest, laying contendlt as Sokka carded his hands through the elder’s hair.
“It’s hot,” Sokka complained. Not because he was truly bothered, but he wanted to break their (albeit comfortable) silence.
“Do you want me to move, because I can-“
“No!” Sokka held tighter to Zuko, wrapping both arms around him to prevent him from leaving. Zuko laughed, reorienting himself in a new position, accepting the aplogetic ‘please-don’t-leave’ kiss from Sokka with a grin.
“I was just observing, is all.”
“oh.” There was a beat, before Zuko continued. “Well...You’re hot.”
Sokka looked down at Zuko, who was grinning cheekily up at him from his new position of laying with his head on Sokka’s lap.
“Just observing, is all.” The fire lord said flirtatiously, before turning and looking out to the ocean.
Sokka chuckled quietly, so happy that they had made it to the point in their lives that Zuko was happy and  felt safe enough to joke and flirt like he did. It wasn’t suave, by any means, but the attempts at seduction were so Zuko that it was all the better.
Zuko was idly tracing patterns on Sokka’s calves, when he noticed a scar, about three inches long, shining white in the moonlight. It was obviously old, and long-healed, but he hadn’t ever seen it before.
Admittedly, though, they had only been dating for a few months, during which time Zuko had been trying to make reparations to the rest of the world on behalf of his nation and family.
He wanted to know what it was, wanted to know everything there was to know about Sokka, but additionaly, he knew how hurtful it was to always be asked about a scar; how it reduced you to nothing but some messy looking skin tissue.
Sokka had noticed the traced patterns starting to zero in on the old wound though, and unbothered, decided to tell Zuko.
“It’s from a fishing accident when I was a kid.”
Zuko jolted slihghtly, worried that he had somehow made it too obvious he was interested, but Sokka pressed on, obviously still content and not upset at all.
“Me and Katara were going with our dad and Bato to the ice-holes, to go fishing. Me and Katara had one hole, and then Bato and dad had one each. Me and katara were, predictably, arguing back and forth, and we started pushing each other and arguing- we hadn’t caught any fish, and we both were convinced it was the other’s fault. Anyways, I decided I was gonna make my own fishing hole, to prove that it was her fault we weren’t catching any fish. So, I stomped about ten feet south of her, and then realized I needed something to make the hole. So, being the stupid little kid I was, I yelled at Katara to throw me the bone-dagger we use to skin the fish. And, being the stupid little kid Katara was, she threw it. It, uh-,” Sokka sheepishly cleared his throat, before continuing. “It detached from the holder mid-air, and went right through my leg. It slashed my calf really bad, but that’s all that’s left, at this point.”
“Does it hurt?”
“Nah, it’s all healed up now. Besides, I’ve heard scars are sexy. They apparently help pick up cute guys.”
Zuko sat up, quirking his non-scarred brow at Sokka, who laughed and just grabbed Zuko, moving him towards him until they were hugging, stomach to stomach, Zuko in Sokka’s lap.
“I’m just kidding- I really only wanna pick up one guy.”
“Hmmph.” Zuko looked away playfully, ignoring Sokka’s attempts to kiss him. “Is this mystery guy a cute guy?”
“Oh, the cutest.”
“Really?”
“Oh, yeah. He’s got this really hot teen angst, brooding vibe, but once you get to know him he’s a total softie. It’s really quite endearing.”
Zuko’s cheek colored, blush matching his other cheek’s red.
“Well… seems like a lucky guy if he’s managed to catch you.”
“Oh, I’m definitely the lucky one.”
“Yeah?”
Sokka was in Zuko’s face suddenly, breathing in the same air, hot puffs of breath hit Zuko’s lips. Blue eyes met gold, both blown wide with lust.
Leaning forward, centimeters away from his lips, Sokka whispered “yeah.” Before leaning forward, capturing Zuko in a heated kiss, grabbing Zuko’s thighs and moving him higher up on his lap, stabilizing him.
The movement and flippant showing of strength from his insanely hot water-tribe beefcake of a boyfriend made Zuko moan brokenly into the kiss, which just allowed Sokka access to lick into Zuko’s now-opened mouth.
~
They laid there, panting, Zuko completely atop Sokka, his non-scarred ear pressed against Sokka’s chest, listening to the beat of his heart, allowing it to comfort him.
Despite laying fairly-openly on the beach, he hadn’t felt this safe and protected in a long time than when he was here, right in this moment, basking in the afterglow with Sokka.
“I have a scar from a family member too.”
“Yeah, baby?” Sokka’s tone was light; he didn't want to pressure Zuko into sharing his scar’s story.
Even when Katara had pressured him when they began dating, he had remained firm that if Zuko never wanted to discuss it, it was his own prerogative, and that was fine, too.
“Yeah… I was thirteen, and my uncle had talked the war-room guards into letting me sit in on my first strategy meaning. So, we went in, and this general was talking about how he was going to move an entire division of troops into a suicide-mission, purely as a distraction.”
The night around them was quite, still except for their voices, as if Yue was watching to make sure nothing interrupted them from this obviously-important moment.
Sokka was sickened at the horrifically brutish militia tactics the fire nation used to employ- to willingly sacrifice hundreds of lives, just for a slight strategical advantage? Disgusting.
“I… I didn’t agree, didn’t think that was right. I spoke up, even though Uncle had warned me not to. But I went on and said how reprehensible that was, how those were real people, with families and lives, and a loyalty to our nation. I was quickly rebuked, and in a show of anger, I agreed to an Agni Kai.“
“Oh my god- at 13?!”
“Yes. And I was stupid enough to take the offer.”
“Oh my god- baby, I’m so sorry.” Sokka curled an arm protectively over his boyfriend’s form. Sokka ached for 13-year-old Zuko, scared and desperate to please his father, to please his nation.
“When I got to the arena, and prepared for the Agni Kai, it was revealed to me that I wasn’t going to be fighting the general. Because I had spoken out of turn in the fire lord’s war room, my slight was against the fire lord, not the general.”
“No-“ Sokka gasped, heart clenching at what he suspected was going to come next.
“My father was there, and said he would be who I battled in the Agni Kai for my honor. I- I had no idea it was him I would be fighting. I dropped to my knees, in front of the whole stadium, crying, pleading. I refused to fight my own father, and I told him as his humble and loving son, I refused to do so. I was so sorry, I was so scared.”
Zuko at this point had sat up, staring out at the ocean, legs crossed in a meditative-esque pose, hands on their respective knees. His voice was small, almost drowned out by the gently cresting waves.
To hear him, Sokka had moved so he was sitting directly behind him, purposefully not touching his boyfriend despite a visceral want to do so. He  knew this was a hard thing for Zuko to discuss, and he also knew physical touch was something his boyfriend struggled with.
“My father… he told me I had brought dishonor to myself, and in punishment held his hand over my eye, and shot a burst of flame into my face. He banished me that night, and Uncle went with me… he said I would only be allowed back, to restore my honor if I brought him the avatar.”
Sokka jumped up, and started aggressively pacing back and forth, parallel to Zuko.
As if pulled from a dream, the thousan yard stare Zuko had adopted broke, looking shocked at the tensed body of his boyfriend.
“Sokka?”
When he didn’t get a response, Zuko worriedly stood up and approached his stony faced boyfriend, shocked to find tears rolling down his dark cheeks.
“Where is he?”
“Wha-“
“Where is Ozai?!”
Zuko was shocked at the aggressive tone of Sokka’s voice. He had never heard him this… feral sounding. And, pushing past the thought that is was insanely (I mean, really, insanely hot), he was worried.
“Why do you need to know where my father-?”
“Don’t call him that, Zuko! That disgusting animal doesn’t deserve any relation to you.” Sokka looked like a mongoose-viper, coiled and ready to strike. His growled words and obvious anger were very confusing to Zuko, who just watched warily. He didn’t think Sokka would hurt him, but he was confused at the anger literally emanating from Sokka in waves.
“Why are you mad?”
“Why am I- Because I am trying to stop myself from building a ship, sailing to mainland, and hunting through every prison cell in the fire nation until I find your deadbeat father.”
“What- why?!”
“Tui and La, Zuko, because that vile excuse for a human had the audacity to lay his hands on you, his own fucking son with such a sick fucking intent- I just. That shit isn’t okay. If this were back home, I would have his fucking head, for doing that. To a- to a kid, Zuko!”
Sokka was crying now, tears illuminated under Yue’s averted gaze.
“Baby, I’m okay.”
“But it’s not okay. I am- I’m so sorry Zuko. The hand that you were dealt was so fucking unfair. I am so sorry, I wish I could protect you from that fucking monster. I just- I want to rip his head off. How dare he-“ Zuko brought his distraught boyfriend into his arms, who slumped down into the smaller framed man.
Sokka’s tears were steadily flowing, soaking Zuko’s bare chest.
“It’s okay, Sokka. I’m sorry I said anything, I-“
“No, please- I’m- God, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be the one being comforted right now.” He pulled away from Zuko, scrubbing his face with his hand. His form, now fully matured, towerd over Zuko. (Holy shit that’s hot Zuko thought staring at his jutting muscles in the moonlight, before admonishing himself that now was not the time to be horny on the beach.)
“It’s just- the mere thought of someone laying a hand on you, baby, especially with such an evil purpose, it makes my blood boil. I love you so much, Zuko, and I know you probably aren’t ready to say that, which is fine, but I love you so fucking much and all I want is to protect you, and heal you, and save you from-mmhph!”
Sokka was silenced by Zuko’s fervent kiss, hungrily moving his lips against his boyfriends.
When they both needed air, the pulled apart regretfully, panting in sync.
 “I love you too.”
They fell back into the sand, and back into each others arms, languidly kissing, feeling blessed to be with the other, in their small, personal realm of love and safety.
~
“Iroh.”
“Hello, Sokka. What an unexpected surprise!” The reitred war general regarded his nephew’s boyfriend warmly, if not slightly appraisingly as he stood outside Iroh’s quarters in the palace.
“Is it?”
“Ah, well, perhaps not entirely. My nephew mentioned he has told you the story behind his scar.”
“He did.”
“When he came to me, he seemed very shocked to find your reaction so… visceral. I had to explain to him that anyone who loves him truly and deeply will react much the same. He still has trouble realizing his worth, how his treatment as a child was so flawed. He’s still accepting that the world’s treatment of him wasn’t right, and wasn’t deserved.”
“I… I haven’t felt that kind of anger in a long, long time. Maybe ever.”
“Hmm. That is just the price of love, Sokka.” he mused. Turning his wizened eyes to the younger man, “Now, I’m sure you’ve come to see me for more than a hello, yes?”
“Do you know where Ozai is being kept?”
Iroh regarded the man, studying him, not letting the shock show on his face.
Far from the young child-soldier with traditional face paint on who he first saw many years ago; Sokka had grown so much.
In place of that lanky, pubescent boy, stood now a full-fledged southern water tribe warrior, who had the traditional tattoos, battle scars, and hard-earned wisdom to prove his standing in the world. He had fought for all he had, and he protected what he saw as his.
With a deep sigh, Iroh moved aside from the doorway. “Hmm... this may be a bit longer than I thought. Do come in, Sokka… won’t you play me in a riveting game of Pai Sho?”

Ooh, I’d love a “paint me” about Sokka and…well, whichever other ATLA character(s) you wish :)
Have some Sokka and Toph for your needs! I don’t think these two get focused on as much and I love them. :D
~
“You know... sometimes it’s really nice to just sit around and be bored,” Sokka said.
He and Toph were lying in the shade outside Zuko’s house on Ember Island. And frankly, they deserved it, as they’d been doing almost nothing but diplomacy meetings and public service nonstop after the war. Between reunions, repairs, and rebuilding the entire world from the ground up (or so it seemed) none of them really had the time to enjoy each other. In fact, this was the first time Team Avatar had all been together since Zuko’s coronation.
“You said it,” Toph replied. The two of them dozed for a while, deciding not to push any conversation or bother with any particular thing, and it felt good.
After about an hour of that Sokka sat up, stretched, and turned to look at Toph. “Hey,” he said. “...Mind if I practice my drawing?”
“Only if you don’t mind if I practice my snoring,” Toph replied, not bothering to move.
“I meant, could I use you as a model? I’ve been getting really good! Aang even says so.”
Privately, Toph figured Aang would say anything Sokka painted looked like something that should hang in the Fire Nation Imperial Palace (although, knowing Sokka and Zuko, some of it probably did) but she decided to keep this to herself. Heck, it wasn’t like it mattered if it came out looking bad anyway. She wouldn’t know the difference. “Be my guest. Just don’t expect me to do any fancy poses. You can take me like this or you can go find Aang.”
“Great!” Sokka stood and ran off to get his supplies. Toph lay still and felt the dirt shifting slightly beneath her, always vibrating just slightly with millions of little creatures that lived inside. Rather than being distracting, it was a comforting feeling, like the sound of birds or crickets. She could tune it out if she wanted, but it was nice to know that things were still alive, and nearby.
She dozed. But after a second Sokka was dashing back over. “Got ‘em!”
After that Toph’s dozing was interrupted by Sokka occasionally making exaggerated concentration noises and shifting his weight every two seconds to get a better angle. She was starting to regret this and just consider bending him halfway across the courtyard when he exclaimed in excitement. “Ta-da!”
“You’re done? Awesome?” Toph smiled to herself. “Go hang it up, I want everyone to see it.”
“Really?” Sokka asked. “Well, sure I will, if you really think it’s good enough for that.”
“Hey, if it’s good then everyone will know how stunning I am, and if it’s bad... well, then I can get a kick out of making fun of you. Either way I figure the quickest way for me to know how it looks is by public appraisal, right?”
“Huh! That’s a good point.” Sokka looked the picture over. “I mean, I think it’s pretty good, and a good artist knows the worth of his own work! Or so Piandao tells me.”
“So go hang it up, dummy!” Toph said. Sokka chuckled and strolled away, slower this time. His leg still bothered him occasionally. Just another reminder of the war. Toph wondered how different he looked now. She’d never know and she rarely cared, but it was true - their gaits were different, all of her friends, and the way they carried themselves. Still recognizable, but different.
She wondered if she’d changed in the same way, and if Sokka’s drawing would capture any of that. But hey. She’d find out soon enough.

Senior Year Adventures (Zuko xOC) pt.16
“So much for a drama free New Years”
“Hey Ki?” Zuko knocked on Kianna’s bedroom door “are you almost ready, we gotta leave soon.
“yeah I’m ready” she puts some last-minute touches to her red lipstick, grabbed her purse and opened the door. Zuko was standing there with his arm on the side of the door. He was wearing a black long-sleeved turtleneck and black pants with a red jacket to finish the look. ‘man can this guy dress’
“wow, you look beautiful” Zuko gives her a sly smirk when he sees the blush creep up on her cheeks.
“do you mind taking a picture of me?” Kianna hands Zuko her phone. She turned slightly posing for the picture.
“Ok come on” Zuko looked at her with his phone in her hand.
“what, do I need to change my angle” she turns her body
“no, you look beautiful, I just” Zuko rubs her face “your butt is showing”
“well yeah that’s the whole point” she gets back into the pose she was first “now take the picture”
Zuko took a few pictures, changing his angle a few times before handing the phone to her.
“are you going to post this?” Kianna takes the phone to look at the pictures.
“I mean yeah” she looks at him to see an uncertain look on his face “ok what’s wrong”
“nothing, I just”, he sighs “as much as I want everyone to know your mine, I don’t really want anyone to be able to look at your ass anytime they want”
Her expression shifted, she hoped Zuko wouldn’t notice but of course he did.
“I’m not trying to control you or anything I promise,” he steps closer and puts his hands on her waist “I just can’t help but be a little possessive”
“no, I don’t feel like your controlling me, and I’m sorry I guess I never thought of it like that, I just thought I looked cute”
“you look gorgeous, forget I said anything you can post anything you want” Zuko felt a little sad he didn’t want to push his insecurities on her, he didn’t want to make her feel like he’s trying to change her.
“no Zuko, if you feel a type of way about its i’ll pose differently, here you can keep the ass pics I’ll take one from the side”. She pushes the phone back to Zuko and does a side pose. She can see him smile while he takes the picture. After the mini photoshoot, Kianna forced Zuko to take some picture too, the two quickly hurried to Zuko’s car (he opened the door for her – what a gentlemen). The ride to Toph’s house wants long, but it was enough time for Ki’s nerves to spiral. Somehow Zuko could tell she was silently freaking out and like the good boyfriend he is, he placed his hand on hers to calm her nerves. Even though the two haven’t been dating long it felt like they have known each other for years. Kianna apricates how sweet and understanding Zuko can be and Zuko feels like he’s lucky to find someone as patient and open as Kianna is. Kianna instantly feels better when she holds his hand. She doesn’t let go when the walk from the car, to inside Tophs house. The first people to greet them where some players from the soccer team. Kianna wasn’t listening because she was too busy looking for her friends, but she assumed that they were still trying to get Zuko to try out for the team. Zuko spots their friends before she does, he tells the soccer guys he will see them later and guides Kianna towards the group. Sokka was the first to notice the new couple, he gives both of them a smirk. Sokka draws the attention of the group to look at Zuko and Kianna. The pair finally get to the group and everyone notices them holding hands.
“so, you guys are together now, officially” Katara looks at the two, crossing her arms over her chest.
“yes, its official now” Kianna couldn’t help the bright smile that formed on her face.
“good cause Azula told me you guys almost did each other in my kitchen and I wasn’t keeping that secret long” toph says as she gets up and leaves the group. Everyone’s eyes turn to the two in amusement. The couple blush furiously as their friends stare at them.
“I think we’re going to get a drink” Kianna pulls Zuko away from the group. The two walks to the kitchen weaving through the crowed. Zuko walked over to the drinks to make drinks for them while Kianna stayed towards the entrance of the kitchen. Basically, the whole school was at this party, she saw people she knew, people she’s seen before and some people she had never seen before, ‘people form another school are probably here.’ Zuko walked up to her and handed her a drink as he was talking to Haru. The two were deep in a conversation about some video game so Kianna slipped away to find Katara and suki. Now that her and Zuko were out in the open, she wanted to show them the beautiful ring Zuko gave her. She gave the house a quick walkthrough before she checked her phone. A few messages from Zuko asking where she went was quickly ignored when she noticed the group chat going off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She rolled her eyes at her friends’ messages.
‘I can be in the same place as jet’
she thought
‘I’m totally over what happened, I mean I’m not going to be friends with the guy, but I can be civil’
just when she turned around to walk to where Zuko said he was, she saw him. Jet. He didn’t look any different from the last time she saw him. Still had brown untamed hair, a smirk glued to his face, and dark clothes to put together his ‘bad boy’ look. And of course, he sees her too, he makes his way to her, wearing the same smirk that used to make her weak in the knees a year ago.
“Well well,” he says when he finally reaches her.” If it isn’t Kianna, long time no see huh”
“Hey jet” she sighs with slight irritation
“Well damn I guess your not happy to see me”
“well I’m not really jumping for joy, am I?”
“Look I get it, I treated you like shit and you hate me, but I’m a changed man, Kianna rolls her eyes,” no really I’m different, and I came to this party cause I knew you would be here”
“Oh god not only are you saying you changed but your stalking me? I’m walking away now.” Before she could turn around, he stops her with a hand on her wrist.
“I came to apologize, not to stalk you. I want to move past this, be friends like we used to be.”she looks at him, waiting to he the grand apology.
“I’m sorry I treated you badly, I had no reason to do that when I was supposed to love you and care for you and instead I tore you down, I know an apology will never be enough but I miss my friend. I miss the Kianna I grew up. I know I messed up bad, but I want to fix our friendship.” She found herself speechless. This was old jet talking. Jet before becoming a jerk, jet who she grew up with the jet she shared secrets with and hang out with everyday. Part of her wanted to hug him, welcome back his friendship, but the other part of her thought back to how bad things ended with them, how bad the relationship was. She continuously fought everyone who said he was no good for her, defended him when he did into deserve it.
“I appreciate the apology, but I think it’ll be a while before I could trust you again. He looks down at his shoes for a Brief moment before looking back in her eyes.
“I understand, and I’m sorry again,” He pauses as if he’s debating on saying what he’s going to say “I heard you with that Zuko guy, just be careful.”
“what, why are you of all people warning me about someone”
“I know I know, but seriously, I’ve heard some things from his ex, there not good”
“Look I don’t know what you heard but Zuko is a good guy” she turns preparing to walk away
“don’t defend him like you did to me” she stops dead in her tracks, her mind racing with what he just said, ever inch of her body was fueled with rage as she walked back up to him and slapped him, hard.
“no one will ever do you me what you did to me, just own up to the fact that I moved on to someone better and stop trying to bring me down like you did when we where together.” She brushed last him, making sure to hit his shoulder with hers, and walked to her old room. ‘So much for a drama free New Years’

Heat- Chapter 52: Flying- kick- a- pow
Actor Zuko is standing between Actor Azula, who has a Fire Nation flag behind her, and Actor Iroh, who has an Earth Kingdom flag behind him.
A light shines on Actor Zuko.
Actress Azula looks expectantly at Actor Zuko. “Well, my brother, what's it going to be? Your nation, or a life of treachery?”
Actor Iroh stops drinking from his cup and gives Actor Zuko a thumbs up. “Choose treachery, it's more fun!”
Actor Zuko walks toward Actor Iroh.
Actress Azula gasps. “No way!”
Actor Zuko stands next to Actor Iroh.
“I will take you with me by force then!” Actress Azula says, attempting to grab Actor Zuko.
Actor Zuko immediately throws Actor Iroh in front of him for Actress Azula to take.
“We captured him! Good job, brother!” Actress Azula praises.
“Thank you, sister. You disgust me, Uncle. I hope you rot!” Actor Zuko says.
The Earth Kingdom flag falls as Actress Azula and Actor Zuko exit with Actor Iroh tied up behind them.
The Gaang was furious.
Zuko had joined them, not left them!
And he loved his uncle more than anything in the whole damn world.
Zuko feels tears blur his vision.
Sokka immediately grabs the omega and whispers in hushed tones, “Sweetheart, you never did that, he did it to save you, it’s fine.”
Zuko trembles slightly. “I might as well have.”
***
The Earth Kingdoms Throne room stands tall on the stage.
Actress Mai, who pulls a sword out of her hair and throws it at a guard.
Actress Ty Lee jumps to the other guard, kisses her finger and touches the guard's shoulder, causing him to fall over.
Actress Azula jumps behind Actress Ty Lee and the three actresses pose.
The audience applauds.
Actress Aang jumps in from behind the set.
“Avatar State, yip yip!” Actress Aang cries out.
The stage light shines on Actress Aang, causing her tattoos to glow.
A stagehand runs across the stage and ties a rope to Actress Aang.
Actress Aang closes her eyes, and her eyelids glow, too, while the rope lifts her into the air.
Actress Azula jumps on stage from behind the smoke.
Actress Azula throws blue streamers at Actress Aang. “Not if my lightning can help it!”
Actress Aang peeks from behind her closed eye and grabs the blue streamer, shaking and screaming in feigned pain.
The audience looks at the scene in shock.
Zuko was appalled.
“Where the hell am I? I was literally the one that stopped Azula,” Zuko said, extremely irritated.
Actress Aang's limp body is slowly lowered to the stage.
Actresses Ty Lee and Mai pose on both sides of Actress Azula, who stands in front of Actress Aang.
Actress Azula grins triumphantly. “The Avatar is no more!”
Audience applauds loudly, while Team Avatar again gives disgusted looks.
The second intermission starts, and the Gaang, minus Aang, goes back to the staircase from before.
Suki frowns in concern at the group. “It seems like every time there's a big battle, you guys barely make it out alive. I mean, you guys lose a lot!”
Sokka glares at Suki. “You're one to talk, Suki. Didn't Azula take you captive? That's right, she did!”
Suki narrows her eyes at the other alpha. “Are you trying to get on my bad side?”
Sokka raises his hands in mock surrender. “I'm just saying…”
Katara looks around in concern. “Does anyone know where Aang is?”
Sokka shrugs. “He left to get me fire gummies, like, ten minutes ago. And I'm still waiting!”
Katara stands, brushing off her shirt. “I'm gonna check outside.”
***
Aang is standing alone on a balcony when Katara comes in and walks up to him.
Katara stands next to him. “Are you all right?”
Aang angrily takes his hat and throws it to the ground. “No, I'm not! I hate this play!”
Katara blinks in surprise. “I know it's upsetting, but it sounds like you're overreacting.”
Aang stares at her incredulously. “Overreacting? If I hadn't blocked my chakra, I'd probably be in the Avatar State right now!”
***
Team Avatar was still on the stairwell when a kid wearing an Aang costume ran by.
Sokka snaps his finger. “Jet, what are the chances you can get me backstage? I got some jokes I want to give to the actor me.
Jet looks at him seriously. “I'm an Freedom Fighter who's trained for many years in the art of stealth.”
He grins. “I could probably get you backstage.”
The two take off.
Toph looks at the running off pair before looking down at where Zuko was sitting on the floor. “Geez, everyone's getting so upset about their characters. Even you seem more down than usual, and that's saying something!”
Suki elbows Toph sharply in her back.
Zuko shakes his head, slightly angry. “You don't get it, it's different for you. You get a muscly version of yourself, taking down ten bad guys at once, and making sassy remarks.”
Toph nods. “Yeah, that's pretty great!”
Zuko sighs, burying his head in his arms. “But for me, it takes all the times I’ve fucked up and shoves them back in my face like, ‘bitch, remember me?’. My uncle, he's always been on my side, even when things were going to shit. He was there for me, he taught me so goddamn much, and how do I repay him? By abandoning him to Azula, of all people. It's my greatest regret, and I may never get to redeem myself.”
Toph sits down next to him.
Suki places a hand on his arm. “You have redeemed yourself to your uncle. You don't realize it, but you already have.”
Zuko looks up warily. “How do you know?”
“Because I once had a long conversation with the guy, and all he would talk about was you,” Toph answers.
Zuko looks at her, a flicker of hope in his eyes. “Really?”
Toph nods. “Yeah, and it was kind of annoying.”
Zuko looks away sadly. “Oh, sorry.”
Toph smiles lightly. “But it was also very sweet. All your uncle wanted was for you to find your own path, and see the light. Now you're here with us. He'd be proud.”
Toph punches Zuko’s shoulder.
Zuko winces, rubbing her shoulder. “Ow! What was that for?”
“That's how I show affection,” Toph exclaims.
The same boy with the Aang costume comes by and sees Zuko.
He looks at Zuko carefully. “Your Zuko costume is pretty good, but your scar's on the wrong side.”
The kid runs off.
Suki laughs as Toph grins as Zuko.
“The scar's not on the wrong side!” Zuko says, pouting.
***
Backstage, the actors were talking with each other and preparing their costumes.
Sokka and Jet peek backstage and spot Actor Sokka.
Jet points at him. “He's coming this way!”
Sokka jumps out in front of Actor Sokka.
Actor Sokka looks at him unimpressed. “Can I help you?”
Sokka grins. “Actually, I think I can help you. I'm a big Sokka fan, but I don't think you're representing him quite as well as you could be.”
Actor Sokka starts walking away. “Aww no, another fan with ideas.”
Sokka runs in front of him and holds some index cards. “Just hear me out. Here's something I think the real Sokka would say. What does the cabbage merchant use to fix his cabbages? A cabbage patch!”
Jet face palms in the background.
Actor Sokka chuckles. “That's actually pretty good! Let me see those!”
He grabs the cards. “‘A rocky relationship’….not bad!”
Sokka puts an arm around the Actor. “Also, don't be afraid to make up some phrases, especially before an attack. Something like….’Flying kick-a-pow!’.
Jet looks thoroughly confused on the side.
‘Flying kick-a-pow?’ Jet mouths incredulously.
What the actual fuck?
Actor Sokka and Sokka start walking away but not before Actor Sokka asks a question.
“Who are you, anyway?”
Sokka shrugs. “I'm just a guy who likes comedy.”

Is Suyin the child of Toph and Sokka?
Disclaimer
I tried to get as much "true" information as I could, but because I have not much time I couldn't write down all the sources. If you need the proof you can easily find it on the internet. Sorry for that!
This entry has more or less comments of my personal opinion. Therefore I want to highlight those parts in purple.
EDIT: It's confirmed, that Sokka and Suki lived in the suburbs together after ATLA. It was confirmed at ComicCon in an Q&A. Thanks to the cautious readers out there :) I hope you still enjoy the text!
OK so I have stumble upon this theory on what happened to Sokka between the end of the comic arcs (yet) and the beginning of LoK. Therefore I found a pretty interesting picture on Instagram from somebody, who tries to find evidences that Toph and Sokka have a child and it's Suyin Beifong.
Tumblr media
As you can see the person compares to facial and body proportions as well as skin tone and similarities. Especially between Sokka and Suyins children you can see a good amount of similarities. I can also agree with the point that Suyin have facial similarities to Sokka. For example if Tophs and Sokkas gene mixed, the skin tone would fit and Suyins heart-shape face would make sense (Toph has a square/round face and Sokka a pointy/oval face shape). The only thing I can't agree is the shoulders? I mean they are just shoulders? You can't tell that they are pointy because Suyins shoulder pads are obviously pointy, but Sokkas are just normal shoulders?
Anyway the text also says that Suki died in a war (it's right according to Google but please feel free to correct me) so there could be room between Sokka and Tophs relationship.
So first of all I want to show parts of their relationship in ATLA and then slosh to the comics.
As we look in the past, there are some points where Toph and Sokka seems to have a bit of chemistry - at least they really care for each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the beginning I want to take emphasis on their trust to each other. In the episode "The Runaway" in Book 3, Sokka and Toph both shared some deeper feelings and fears of themselves to each other. As friends, this is nothing new, but still a great moment of their bond.
Secondly on the war ship Sokka protects Toph and holds her. Again, this might be just a thing between friends. I see nothing romantical here, because she can't see the falling rocks and she also did the same thing for Sokka at "The Serpent's Pass" in Book 2.
Now going a bit deeper Toph is holding Sokkas arm as they went back to Ba Sing Se with Appa and Aang after he went to the Guru in the episode "The Guru". The same thing happened in the boat in episode "The Painted Lady", book 3. Usually Toph doesn't need a helping hand on Appas back as you can see in various episodes. This hug also doesn't seem very much on a friendship base but more "romantically". It's a pose you would usually do to a crush in my opinion.
Especially in the last picture after Sokka went to master Piandao she showed affection towards him because she missed him after only one day. She mentioned her missing of Sokka before in the Gaang part, which nobody else did. They also tent to trust each other, because they didn't fear to tell their fears and problems. She even complimented his drawings (more as a joke), but they sort of picking on each other a lot. Toph also seems to have some sort of interest in Sokka, because she thought he saved her in the water and wanted to thank him with a kiss.
Tumblr media
To be honest this isn't very typical for Toph. Yeah, she has also shown some affection towards Zuko, when they tried to find Aang. But this was more like a kind act, because she wanted to know Zuko better and also have some adventure with him as everybody else. She also tried to kiss "Sokka" on "his" lips, because in the she goes towards them with her face. This is no "this just naturally happens", because animators take a long time to animate a few seconds. Therefore there was an intention in this gesture by the creators, leading Toph to show her soft spot, which she usually doesn't show. She rather appear very hard (like a rock) and is indeed very badass, but you should also consider her as a girl with an interest in boys. She also should have hit puberty around this time and the only guy in her reach would be Sokka. We should not forget that Sokka is kind of a "playboy" - at least he has the most relationships in the Avatar universe. Therefore I guess that she could have developed some feelings for him. Maybe not that far, but I think the interest was definitely there.
There are also some other scenes where their bond shows even further, but first I want to talk about the characters. I am mainly talking about characters who have something to do with the Tokka theory.
First I want to talk about Sokka
Well you all know Sokka as an womanizer. He had an relationship with Yue, a princess, he is/was together with Suki and even in the comics girls had interests in him. In LoK we literally know nothing about him. We only know that he was a member of the console in Republic City and that he died before we started with LoK. This is very strange, because people thought he would have been with Suki, but she wasn't mention in Lok at all. I want to talk about her later.
Did Sokka has an interest in Toph?
Well, I can clearly say no, at least in ATLA. We can see by the pictures and gifs above that Sokka had just friendship in mind. For the fact that around this time he was in a relationship with Suki, he never thought of Toph as a potential girlfriend. He was just protective around the last arc, Zosins comet, because they were friends. Nothing more, nothing less. But, as I said, I can still sensor some deeper trust between them, because Sokka told her she saw her mother in Katara, which is an information that he is not keen to speak about. This changed a bit in the comics. Their interaction were much more present than in the series. A part of it is because in the series the focus was much more in Aang. In the comics they clearly have more interactions because the focus on Aang serving the world went away. In the comics we saw a lot of Zukos life in the palace and how he rules. We also saw an arc, where Aang wants to spread the air nomads culture to volunteers and the issue of avatar Yangchen. Katara and Aang being busy being a couple and Sokka and Katara only come together at the Northern Water Tribe.
Sokka has, more or less, plenty of time to spend. Because Suki worked as a guardian for Zuko, Sokka didn't see Suki on a regular basis. Sokka helped Toph with her metal bending academy in "The Rift". Also in "North and South" Sokka spend time with Toph.
Tumblr media
He even gave her all the soft toys he won. In my opinion this is a typical boyfriend-girlfriend moment. He could either safe the toys for Suki, but he doesn't. Also in other situations he wants to be with Toph instead of Aang and Katara. He also praises Toph a lot during the series, in the comics and even LoK you can see it (when Yakone was in court).
Now to Toph Beifong
As a blind, but a noble girl she was restricted by her parents to do any physical work or task due to her disability. She also hates authority and rules a lot due to her parental treatment. In the series, she was 12 year old, as old a Aang. In this time many hit puberty, so I guess she may be in puberty at this time and also starts being interested in the opposite gender. So therefore I asume she had a crush on Sokka for various points (examples) mentioned above.
In the comics she found a metal bending school. For the first time in "The Rift" we get to know a man called "Kanto". Toph seems interested in him as well.
Tumblr media
If you read the comic you'll notice that she clearly wants to be in a relationship with him. I think he is the father of Lin, because he has the same hair colour and wavy structure, but also her father's name is "Kanto".
As we know in the end Toph was chief police officer of Republica. She has a second child, who is Suyin.
So indicating Sokka might be the father, what speaks for this theory?
After the end of the war we were sure Sokka and Suki will be together and in the comics and they still are. But according to Google Suki died in a war, so this leaves space between Sokka and Toph to develop a relationship. Furthermore Suki seems to have an interest in Zuko.
Tumblr media
This actions are, sure, typical for friends, but the way of acting is hinting of an interest. I wouldn't deny it, it seems very suspicious. Also Zuko might be interested in Suki as well, since they see each other everyday and Mai broke up with him. He still have eyes for Mai, but it's not completely impossible that Suki and Zuko are attracted to each other since they both are very badass and attractive characters.
Due to this fact the relationship between Sokka and Suki might have crumbled, leading to a break up between them. We don't see something about Suki in LoK at all. She just vanished completely, which could indicate her early death. Since we know that Toph has interest in Sokka and he maybe has an slight interest as well, so they might end up. The next hints are in the appearances of Suyin and her children, who have heavy resemblances to Sokka.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I first thought that the resemblance is heavily of Bataars side, the father of them. But the similarities to Sokka are stronger!
Therefore, many of those "evidences" turn into the favor of their relationship.
But what speaks against ist?
So basically I would say that it's still a theory. Sure, there are times where many theories were right, but not all. We are speaking in a room of speculations and as you might know, not all things are clear. For example the mother of Izumi is not mentioned at all. There are things, which should(?) be a mystery or unimportant. Maybe for spicing up the series or just because the authors forgot and made it up later on (e.g. J. K. Rowling does every time).
Secondly I want to point out the strong friendship game everyone has in ATLA. We see a lot of strong friendships, which could hint an interest towards the person, but mostly they stay friends. One reason could be that the authors want to trick us, but I believe that the friendships are strong on purpose, because they want to show how much they connected through the war and their experiences. Having a bit of a chemistry does not mean anything relationship wise, that's nothing new for sure.
Third and lastly I want to stick out that shipping everyone with everyone not only does ruin the atmosphere and characters of the series, but also makes it kinda awkward? I mean I have nothing against ships, but not every gesture means love from both sights. That's nothing new in the avatar world and also in ours. We sure can make ships like we want, but if they happen to be real, wouldn't that make their whole situation somehow awkward? Like Suki and Zuko having "an affair" while Sokka doesn't know anything. Or Sokka making up with Toph because they don't have anyone left. This does not only bring some people in a bad light, but also let the characters seem desperate. I wouldn't like the idea that Sokka lost a love again or that Zuko and Suki cheating, which speaks against their natural characteristics and morality.
So what's the conclusion?
As mostly seen many aspects are based on personal preferences. There are hints of a relationship, but there must not be one. This vision is clearly on the readers mind whether they believe the signs or not. I wouldn't doubt the possibility of their relationship though. There are evidences and there is no clear story in between the comics and the start of LoK. I wouldn't mind if Tokka really happened, but I would not state it as the only truth. As a Tokka shipper, I would say yes to the theory, as a Sukka/other Sokka-ship shipper probably no. Feel free to have your own opinion based on this entry, because that's only what's left.

Day 2: Speak
Read it on: FFN | AO3
@zutaraweek
Stealing from pirates doesn't go as well the second time around. But at least Katara doesn't have to be alone after she's captured.
This was not going the way she'd planned it. The boys had tried to talk her out of going—"Come on, Katara, let it go. You already have a waterbending scroll. A bunch of them, actually. You're not gonna shrivel up if you don't get your hands on this one."
But this scroll was special. All her other scrolls were from the North. Much as she appreciated what she had learned from Pakku and Yugoda, their bending wasn't her heritage. This scroll, though, this one was from the Southern Tribe. As the last surviving waterbender from the South Pole, it was her duty to take it back.
But she hadn't counted on the pirate ship being so heavily guarded in the dead of night—worse, she'd forgotten that one of them was an earthbender. The waxing gibbous moon gave her a slight advantage, but the river was narrow enough that the earthbender could still fight, and there were enough nonbenders, all armed to the teeth, that she couldn't hold her own for long.
It brought her a strange sense of satisfaction when the pirates dragged her below deck and she discovered that she wasn't their only prisoner. Katara remembered that horrible, grinning mask from countless wanted posters across the Earth Kingdom. If the pirates could capture the Blue Spirit, then at least she had lost to worthy opponents.
But sitting across from him, those empty black eyes boring into hers, was less satisfying. It was unnerving. Aang always insisted that the Blue Spirit wasn't so bad, that despite his less than legal activities, the Blue Spirit really did have good intentions. Katara wasn't convinced. That ominous, toothy grin and the empty, white-rimmed eyes staring at her from the dark blue mask hardly inspired trust or confidence in her.
So she was surprised when she found herself starting to speak. "I thought you were taller."
She heard a derisive breath from beneath the mask.
"I've seen your wanted posters all over the Earth Kingdom," she retorted. "The Blue Spirit. They only ever showed your face—your mask—whatever. I just thought that someone wanted for crimes against the Fire Nation would be taller." She wrinkled her nose. "My brother is your size."
That earned a snort from the Blue Spirit, and he turned away. Or he did as well as he could with his arms tied over his head and his ankles bound in front of him. At least the pirates had been thoughtful enough to tie Katara's hand behind her back instead. It wasn't comfortable, but it had to be better than having her elbows dangle next to her ears.
"Aang told me that you aren't as scary as you look." Katara wasn't sure why she kept talking—maybe it was easier than listening to the river rushing against the hull of the boat. She could feel the water's pull in her veins, and if she let herself listen to the call of her element for too long, she might give in and summon a blast of sharpened ice to plunge the boat to the bottom of the river. In theory, it wasn't the worst idea she'd ever come up with. In reality, she knew that while her bound hands and ankles would pose no problem in summoning ice spikes, they would make escape difficult. If not impossible. She rested her head back against a crate.
"I guess if you've been fighting the Fire Nation, he might be right."
The Blue Spirit visibly stiffened, somehow managing to exude annoyance without making a sound. But Katara still couldn't stop herself.
"What are you doing here, anyway? Pirates' trinkets seem sort of—trivial for the Blue Spirit. I don't know what you normally fight for, but all the stories made it sound so much grander than this." Katara fidgeted against her ropes. "I mean, risking your life for a few jewels isn't exactly the same as fighting for a cause. Whatever your cause is."
The Blue Spirit let out a long breath and shook his head slightly.
"What?" she asked, straightening. "You're not fighting for anything?"
There was a pause, then he shook his head.
Katara frowned. "I don't believe you. People don't just run around in spooky masks and risk their lives without reason."
He scoffed, and with some effort, turned to face her again. His hands twisted in the ropes until he managed to point a finger in her direction.
"Me?"
A nod.
"What am I doing here? What, you can't be bothered to actually ask the question?" She studied him, as if the mask might somehow give away something more than she'd seen so far. "Can you speak?"
He shook his head, but only after a long hesitation. He was lying. A part of her wanted to lie in retaliation—if he refused to tell her the truth, why should she extend him that courtesy? But as she stared back at those gaping black holes and tried to imagine the human eyes underneath, she realized that she didn't need to lie. She didn't even want to. She wasn't ashamed of her purpose here. The Blue Spirit might have things to hide, but Katara didn't.
"I heard a rumor," she admitted in an undertone. "These pirates are pretty well known for stealing priceless things. Cultural relics. A few months ago, I took back something that rightfully belonged to my people. A waterbending scroll from the Northern Tribe. And yesterday, I heard that they found something even rarer." She wanted to curl into a ball, but being tied as she was made that nearly impossible. She settled for lowering both her eyes and her voice. "A waterbending scroll from the Southern Water Tribe. My home. My people. I'm the last living waterbender from the South Pole. It's my responsibility to bring our bending traditions back to life, and I can't do that if the only thing I know is Northern style bending." Her hands clenched into fists. "I saw the scrolls. There's more than one of them. I held the box, and I just—stared at them. They were so beautiful, and so—" She paused to swallow before she could choke on the lump that had risen to her throat. "I could have gotten away. If I had just left with them, I wouldn't be here right now."
The Blue Spirit was listening to her. Really listening. His head tilted ever so slightly to the side, and it wasn't just the empty blackness staring at her now—she could feel the human gaze beneath the mask fixed on her face.
"I meant to be back to camp by now." The moon's weak pull on her was waning—it must be nearly daybreak by now. "I was going to sneak back into camp before my brother realized I was missing. But now—" Her shoulders curled inward. "He's going to be worried about me. Aang will be too." She let out a small sigh and studied the Blue Spirit, trying to spot anything that gave away who he was under his disguise. There was nothing to find. He was clad entirely in black, save for the mask.
"What about you? You must have someone. Friends or family? Somebody's going to worry when you don't show up."
She wasn't sure what sort of reaction she was expecting, but it wasn't the reaction she got. The Blue Spirit made a sound like he'd been choked—the nearest he'd come to speech so far—and began pulling at his ropes.
"What are you doing?" Katara hissed. "Are you planning on escaping?"
He nodded and hauled himself up until he managed to grab the beam he was tied to. Propping himself up, he tugged at the knots. Katara blinked at him.
She thought she saw a flash of light, but before she could figure out where it had come from, the Blue Spirit was busy unraveling the ropes from his wrists. Katara pulled against her own ropes. Sokka had taught her lots about different types of knots, how to tie them, how to quickly loosen them—the problem was, she knew them by sight, not by feel. She let out a noise of frustration.
Before she could manage to free herself, a hand grasped her shoulder—warmer than she expected. She looked up to find the blue mask looming over her. He held up a small dagger and mimed cutting through ropes, then paused, as if waiting for her permission.
Slowly, Katara nodded, and the Blue Spirit reached around her back and sliced her free in a single motion.
"Thanks," Katara whispered and reached down to untie her ankles.
The Blue Spirit hesitated a second before he nodded and motioned for her to follow.
They crept up the stairs together, Katara marveling over how silent and graceful the Blue Spirit was. He was a bit taller than she first thought—not by much, but taller than Sokka—slender and lithe. Young, too, she suspected. Without seeing his face, there was no way to be certain, but she had never known a grown man—a warrior—to balk at social interactions the way he did. But now, ducking around corners and dodging from one shadow to the next, he moved with absolute certainty. As though stealth and fighting came as naturally to him as breathing.
At the window to the pirates' storeroom, the Blue Spirit motioned her forward and held up a finger. Katara read his message clearly. Keep moving. I'll catch up in a minute.
She shook her head. "I'm not leaving without you. You helped me get untied, I'm going to help you get off this ship."
He huffed and jabbed a finger toward the outside again.
Katara folded her arms. "Not a chance, Blue Spirit. I'm a waterbender. You're going to need my help to get off this boat."
He stared at her. Really stared. She stared right back, into the inky blackness of his eyes. The mask's gleaming white teeth weren't half so intimidating when he was trying to argue with her. She had won far more difficult arguments with Sokka, and he had speech on his side. The Blue Spirit didn't. She raised an eyebrow at him.
With a sigh, the Blue Spirit shook his head and motioned for her to wait where she was. Dagger in hand, he wedged open the window and slipped silently inside.
Katara rolled her eyes after him, but hung close to the wall, staying hidden in the semi-darkness. There was some clattering inside the storeroom, and she peeked through the window. It was too dark to see much, but she thought she could make out the white bits of his mask as he moved through the rows of trinkets and treasures, occasionally whirling to one side or the other as if dodging an attack. He came near enough to the window that she could see another shadowy figure lunge at him, but the Blue Spirit spun out of reach and the other figure crashed headlong into a shelf.
The noise drew attention from the deck, and Katara crept farther down the hall. She could nearly reach the water from here—just a few more steps, and she'd have the entire river at her disposal. As the footsteps overhead grew nearer, she took hold of the water, poising to strike. But before she had a chance to send the approaching pirates sailing into the river, the storeroom door swung open, and the Blue Spirit emerged, a sword in either hand and a pack slung over his shoulder. He gestured toward the deck, and Katara nodded, falling into step behind him.
The pirates were waiting for them when they emerged, more of them than either Katara or the Blue Spirit could have fought alone. But the Blue Spirit sprang into motion, swords flashing in the early morning light, and Katara pulled a stream of water to her side.
They fought side-by-side, moving in near-perfect coordination. The Blue Spirit seemed to know exactly when to duck to stay clear of Katara's attacks, and Katara, in turn, had no trouble keeping out of his way. She smirked in satisfaction when she noticed several of the men she'd faced earlier hanging back and favoring bandaged limbs. They may have captured her, but she left her mark too.
Together, they thinned the crowd of pirates until there was a clear path to the railing. Then Katara grabbed the Blue Spirit by the arm and pulled him forward. She leapt up onto the railing and after a second's hesitation, the Blue Spirit joined her. Before the pirates could reach them again, Katara summoned a massive wave and threw an arm around his waist to drag him into the water.
The wave carried them to shore while the boat capsized behind them. Katara didn't need to look back. She could feel the pirates plunge into the icy river a moment before her feet met with the bank and she broke into a run, still side-by-side with the Blue Spirit.
They ran until the yells after them faded to distant echoes and they broke out of the trees and into a clearing. Both breathing hard, they stopped.
Katara couldn't help it. She started laughing, still breathless from the fight and the waterbending and the running. She had expected worse. So much worse, and yet here she was, safe and free, and unexpectedly standing next to an internationally wanted criminal in a blue mask, but she wasn't afraid of him. Not in the least. He made a better ally in a fight than almost anyone else, and he had gone out of his way to help her escape. Whoever he was under the mask, she would fight at his side again in a heartbeat.
"We did it," she said, beaming up at him. "That—that was amazing. You were amazing. I can't believe—" She threw her arms around his neck. "I can't believe we made it."
The Blue Spirit stiffened, and Katara pulled back.
"Sorry! Sorry—I should have asked—"
The movement knocked his mask askew, and for the first time, Katara got a glimpse of the face underneath. Just a sliver of exposed skin, no wider than her little finger, but it was enough. A patch of red, ridged skin in an otherwise pale face—she recoiled away from him.
She didn't need to say his name. The recognition, the accusation was evident enough in her eyes. Even she could tell that.
He straightened the mask as though covering his face could fix everything. As though she would forget the huge crimson scar over the left side of his face if she could no longer see it.
For a moment, she could do nothing but stare. Once the mask was back in place, he let his arms drop, and she almost thought she saw his shoulders curling inward in something like defeat or dejection. He didn't attack. Katara almost expected him to, but those hollow black slits simply stared at her. Underneath, she now knew, a pair of golden eyes were doing the same.
"Don't follow me," she said at last, turning on her heel. She could find her own way. Better than him, probably. Finding fresh water would be easy enough, and she knew how to hunt, how to fish, how to cook. It wouldn't be easy, but she knew where the others were headed. In a few days—weeks, maybe—she would be with them again.
"Katara." His voice was quieter than she remembered it, and almost—almost sad.
Katara paused, looking back over her shoulder. Zuko still hadn't moved, but she heard him sigh, and in a slow, fluid motion, he pulled the mask off. His face was pinched and tired-looking, and when he pushed his hood down as well, she could see that his carefully-shaved hair had been allowed to grow wild. The place where his ponytail used to be was scraggly and uneven and the rest of his head was darkening with an uneven black stubble.
"Wait." He let the mask fall to the ground with a hollow clatter. "I—um." He fumbled for something over his shoulder and eventually produced a narrow, ornate box. "I think—This is yours. I mean—you should have it. It's what you were looking for back there, isn't it?"
She stared in disbelief as he set the box on a flat-topped stone and backed a few steps away. That box, with its Water Tribe patterns and inscriptions—it almost looked like an offering. Like a truce. Katara folded her arms.
"Listen, you didn't have to help me get out. I didn't expect you to." Zuko shifted, looking uncomfortable. "I just—I guess I just thought that one of us should get what we were looking for." For a second, he was quiet, as if waiting for a response, then he shook himself and stepped forward to collect his mask. "I'm just looking for my uncle," he continued as he retreated to a safe distance again. "I know you don't have any reason to believe me, but I'm not going to fight you." At that, he paused again, looking almost hopeful.
Katara stared wordlessly at him. She couldn't believe anything he said. She knew that, deep down, and yet—and yet he didn't sound like he was lying. He didn't look like it either, he just looked—tired. And hungry. And, perhaps even more than her, lost.
Before she could decide how to react, Zuko turned away, angling southward toward the ocean. She crossed the clearing and ran a hand over the cover of the box, over the inlaid bits of pearl and brightly colored shell. With one hand, she cracked open the lid just enough to see that the scrolls were still inside before she hugged the box to her chest and stood.
"Zuko." She didn't speak loudly. She didn't need to. If Zuko wanted to hear her, he would.
He didn't turn immediately, but he did pause, shoulders tensed as if he expected an attack.
"Do you have any idea where we are?"
Peering back over his shoulder, he shook his head.
Katara took a deep breath. "Neither do I," she admitted.
Slowly, Zuko turned back to face her. "What are you saying?" His voice was a gentle rasp, more pleasant than she had given it credit for in the past.
"I'm saying—" Another deep breath. "Do you think we'd have a better chance if we stuck together?"
Even from across the clearing, she could see him swallow. He was wary. And somehow, that was reassuring.
"Truce?" he offered, something almost like hope in his voice.
She expected to hesitate. Calling a truce with the crown prince of the Fire Nation should have filled her with fear, but right now, all she could feel was relief. She may not have her brother or Aang at her side, but at least she wasn't alone. Tucking the scroll box under her arm, she held her hand out in offering.
"Truce."

Zutara Week Day 5: Youth
@zutaraweek
Katara hates Zuko. A little something set in the Southern Sun AU. Katara is 11, Zuko is 13, and he has been banished to the South Pole.
AO3 / FF.N
Katara still practiced her waterbending in secret.
Ever since Zuko had come, Sokka wanted her to forget about her element altogether, and he would give her one of his “I’m your big brother and I know what’s best” lectures if she so much as stirred a pot of soup with her bending. The worst part was this time Gran Gran took his side.
Katara knew they were only trying to protect her. If their new Fire Nation chief found out what she could do, she would be sent away to some remote prison, or worse, just like all the other waterbenders before her. It might have been better - it certainly would have been safer - if Katara had been a nonbender.
But she wasn’t, and she couldn’t just go her whole life pretending she was. So whenever she could find a moment to steal for herself, Katara would take a bowl of water and practice twisting it into different shapes.
It was hard. The water seemed to have a mind of its own sometimes, more than it would obey her commands. And the more frustrated she got, the more unpredictable it would become - sloshing everywhere, or suddenly freezing solid, or one time even shattering the bowl to pieces. Katara had been forced to feign ignorance when Gran Gran asked her why there were now only three bowls stacked neatly by the cooking fire instead of four.
They could get by with just three anyway, now that her father was gone.
The truth was, Katara had no idea what she was doing. As long as she could remember, she had been the only bender at the south pole. But there were two other benders here now.
Zuko had regular firebending lessons with his uncle, always conducted near where their small ship was moored, about twenty paces from the low village walls that had done nothing to keep him out. (Sokka said Zuko wanted to improve the villages defences once they got the hang of building houses, but Katara would believe it when she saw it.) Curious children often loitered at a safe distance to watch as General Iroh drilled their young chief on his firebending forms, occasionally correcting his footwork or his breathing. No one thought anything of it if Katara joined them.
The firebending forms looked powerful and intimidating, and if Katara didn’t join in the younger children’s awe-struck oohs and aahs, it wasn’t because she wasn’t impressed by what she saw. She could tell, even from a distance, that Zuko would often get frustrated with himself, just like she did. But he could produce jets of fire with ease. He got to wield his element out in broad daylight without caring who saw. And he never lost control.
Katara hated Zuko, and she didn’t care who knew it. But secretly, she also envied him.
-----
Zuko hadn’t expected anyone at the south pole to actually like him.
He knew from the moment his father had sent him here that his task would not be easy. Governing the small, isolated, primitive tribe presented its own challenges, of course, though Zuko was determined to rise to meet them. It was the conditions for his return to the Fire Nation that posed the greatest problem - first of all finding a waterbender, when there were apparently none left, and then on top of that somehow winning that waterbender’s loyalty.
For the former condition, Zuko was prepared to be patient. Any of the younger children might manifest waterbending abilities someday. But as for the latter...well, Zuko was less confident in his own ability to win people over.
The Water Tribe peasants respected his position as chief, but Zuko quickly learned that this was not the same as respecting him. Even Sokka, who proved to be the most willing to work with him, could not be counted as loyal to him. When they weren’t working on one of Zuko’s building projects together, Sokka kept as much wary distance from him as everyone else in the tribe.
And then there was Sokka’s little sister.
If the rest of the tribe was wary of him, the looks Katara gave him were positively lethal. Unlike the cool neutrality her brother had adopted, Katara seemed to be brimming with anger at him. Zuko hadn’t expected anyone to like him, and the daughter of the disgraced chief he was replacing least of all, but it still got under his skin, being outright hated like that, and by a child, no less.
But he also knew the last raid had resulted in her mother’s death, and there was nothing he could do about that.
Yet for all Katara’s hatred, he was its sole target. To the rest of the tribe, she was warm and kind, looking after the younger children, dutifully helping the women with various chores, and even though she bickered with Sokka, Zuko could tell it was nothing like how Azula treated him. And Sokka, for all his grumbling, was obviously as fond of his sister as the rest of the tribe was. Everyone loved Katara, and she made being loved look easy.
Zuko knew why Katara hated him, and he even felt sorry for her. But secretly, he also envied her.

Swift As Karma (Part 21)
She was awake, yet everything was still black. Dark and painless. Maybe she wasn’t awake at all. But she could hear them talking, she could hear TyLee calling, “I think that she’s awake.” Azula wanted to say that she wasn’t so sure about that, but her tongue felt out of place in her mouth. Instead she attempted to lift her arm, she was fairly certain that she had succeeded because she felt a hand clutch hers. “She’s awake.” TyLee confirmed. Still, Azula didn’t feel awake, she tried again to open her eyes but they refused.
A shaky and nervous breath escaped her lips and she hoped that the rest of her wasn’t trembling.
“TyL...T...Ty…?”
“Yeah?” TyLee asked.
Her second attempt at speaking held more success. “I’m still alive?”
She felt TyLee’s thumb rubbing the back of her hand. “Looks like it. I was getting really worried it’s been over a week. Katara and Toph tried to rescue Sokka again…”
Sokka...Sokka! She had forgotten about the boy entirely. Now that TyLee had made mention of his absence, it seemed rather obvious. “Where is he?” She asked before diving into more pressing matters. Maybe by the time TyLee explained, her vision would brighten and she’d be fully awake.
“He got captured and is in the factory, Toph was hoping that you could help get him out.”
Wise choice in not mentioning the peasant, Azula thought. “I don’t think that I’m in any condition to…” she trailed off. But she did feel somewhat better. Less feverish. Less achey.
“Katara decided to heal you up a bit. But you should still take it easy.” TyLee mused.
Azula nodded, pushing herself upright. She supposed that a week of sleep where she could do nothing to exasperate her wounds had probably done her some good. “Was I really out for that long.” TyLee didn’t answer, so she repeated her question.
“I nodded a yes.” TyLee gave a little laugh. She was sounding a bit more cheerful.
For a second, TyLee’s enthusiasm spread. Until a seed of dread planted itself. She was awake. She was fully awake and yet… “TyLee…” She faltered. “I-I can’t see you. I can’t see anything.”
She pictured TyLee’s smile fading into a frown. “Yeah...Katara mentioned something like that. Your eyes…”
Azula brought her fingers to them. Did she even have them anymore. She gently pressed against her own eyelids and felt a flicker of relief at the feeling of them where they should be. “What about them?”
“They look…”
“Like mine.” Toph cut in. “Your lightning was pretty bright, sparky.”
Her mouth went dry.
“It’s fine…”
“Fine!?” Azula sputtered, with a semi-frantic gesture towards the earthbender.
“Direct your hand gesture a little more to the right.” Toph instructed.
She fixed her sightless stare to the right, “how is this fine?”
“You’re the Avatar now, if you help Katara and occasionally throw me a, ‘wow Toph, you’re the best’ or a ‘you’re the coolest, best earthbender ever’. I might teach you to see the way I do.”
Azula swallowed. She wanted to see in the traditional way.
“Don’t get too excited on me.”
Azula felt around for TyLee’s hand, her fingers curl around it. “And what am I supposed to do until then?”
“You can just stay here and stay out of the way.” Katara spoke from somewhere across the room.
“Why didn’t you heal my eyes?”
“I couldn’t.” Katara replied. “And even if I could, I wouldn’t have. It’s hard to aim lightning when you can’t see your target.” The thought must have been comforting to her.
As comforting to her as nauseating it was to Azula who cringed, feeling useless thrice over. Yet she was beginning to resent her lightning. She had a knack for destroying herself in some way or another with it.
She laid herself back down. She didn’t think that she has moved too far from her pillow until her head found rock. She was thankful that she hasn’t just flopped down.
“Here.” TyLee instructed her to lift her head and positioned the pillow beneath it.
“Why did you heal me at all?”
.oOo.
The manner in which the question was posed sent pangs of sympathy through Katara. She hated that she felt them at all. She wasn’t about to tell her that she was keeping her alive in hopes of seeing more flickers of Aang. “You’re going to help me  save Sokka.”
“I can’t.” Azula declared. “And even if I could, I wouldn’t.” She spat.
Katara should have seen that one coming. The more the girl talked the less she liked her. But she had Aang’s spirit. Aang was in there and Katara resented that she had to get through Azula to talk to him. With any luck, Aang would take over again, for good. Then all she would have to do is get used to seeing Azula’s face when talking to Aang.
As much as she wanted the princess gone, she was going to have to keep her around.
“You will or I won’t let Toph teach you to see.”
“Whoa, whao, whao, Toph decides what Toph does and doesn’t do.” Toph declared at the same time as Azula replied, “I can’t earthbend anyways.”
“That’s why Toph is going to teach you...if you help us get Sokka.”
“You don’t understand.” Azula hissed. “I can’t earthbend. I can’t bend at all.”
“Tell that to the missing chunk of my shoulder!”
.oOo.
Azula pinched the bridge of her nose. “That only worked because they weren’t expecting it.”
Katara must have thought Azula had lost it comepletely; it seemed to take her a moment to realize that the firebender was referring to the avatars.
“They’ve been blocking my chi. They won’t let me firebend, what the hell makes you think that they’ll allow me to learn earthbending without a fight.” And she didn’t want to fight.
“Maybe when they realize that you’re going to do something good for once, they’ll help.”
That had well and hit home. “I’m not a good person.” Azula spoke before she could stop herself. “I don’t do good things and I don’t want to.” She added quickly. She isn’t sure, though, if that is true anymore. Perhaps it would be easier, perhaps it would do her well to comply and try to play for the other side of the war.
The supposedly good side was more suitable for TyLee who shouldn’t have been dragged into this in the first place.
Even still, she wanted nothing to do with her new powers and even less to do with the avatars.
“Well you can be.” TyLee tried. “A good person. You can be a good person.”
“They let this happen to me.” Azula mumbled. “I want nothing to do with them.”
“If you don’t work with them then you’re never going to see again.” Azula could hear the shrug in Toph’s voice.
“Then I guess I don’t need sight that badly.” She gave a stubborn folding of her arms.
Katara’s voice sounded much closer when she spoke again. “Yeah, I guess it’s easier to be blind then to see what you’ve done.”

1, 10, 16, 22 FOR SALTY ASKS, BITCH! xo
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
I’m going to say it and people are going to possibly fight me but Rumbelle. As someone who specializes in family and human rights law, it’s hard for me to watch because I feel like I’m watching one of my cases, particularly cases regarding Battered Women’s Syndrome where women are put through a cycle of abuse and affection that eventually leads to them snapping and killing their partners due to the constant fear that they feel. Granted, that didn’t happen on the show and I don’t think Adam & Eddy even have a clue what BWS is but it was the cycle that got me - the manipulation, the gaslighting and sometimes even trespass against the person via false imprisonment. (And yes, false imprisonment is categorized as trespass against the person in tort.) I constantly cringed while watching them mainly because it became clear many times that Rumple just doesn’t respect Belle’s autonomy and views her more as a coveted object than a partner.
Another is honestly…Kataang. I don’t find it abusive for the record or anything. And just a PSA out there for you, you CAN dislike a ship and not find it abusive, just saying. It’s more that I felt there wasn’t much chemistry for Aang and Katara. There was a serious maturity gap between them. I felt to me that Aang was always trying to hold on to his childhood and really not face issues unless they were pressing and he felt compelled too while Katara honestly acted more like an adult, which isn’t surprising considering the fact her mother died when she was young and she and Sokka were often left on their own because of the war. Katara really faced things head on and I feel like her actions towards Aang were more maternal than anything. @justanotherwannabeclassic and I have discussed this before but it feels like Katara was just a prize for Aang for saving the world and kinda lost her autonomy as person. She just became his girlfriend when she was a master fucking waterbender and I don’t think she would have been satisfied with just being a wife and mother, not that there is anything wrong with that but she’s very much into helping people and being a revolutionary - she was the fucking Painted Lady, c’mon now.
I could write an entire essay on these two and other ships but honestly this answer is long enough as is.
I’m gonna put my other answers under the cut because I have a lot of salt
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
Alana. Seriously. If I could, I would rewrite the entire Once Upon a Time show post-season three. There’s so many things I have an issue with in regard to OUAT but if I had to chose one and this is hard, but the entire Killian killed David’s Dad/Killian’s Realm Tour 2017. That story arc was bullshit, in fact most of season six was bullshit. Season five was also bullshit but I digress. Anyway, I think the whole issue of Killian killing Robert was fucking dumb and was just drama for drama’s sake because Adam and Eddy got lazy and apparently wrote the majority of their plots high, and not the good kind of high. Like the kinda high you get when you buy cheap ass marijuana from a sketchy street vender in Switzerland kinda high. That’s the minor beef I have with this arc, the main bit is the Emma moping and thinking Killian abandoned her nonsense. Girl, we just went through THREE SEASONS of crazy ass insanity where it was confirmed MANY times that Killian wasn’t ever going to leave her, loved her and would die like five hundred times for her. The fact that she immediately thought that he left instead of, maybe I don’t know, being kidnapped or hurt is just absurd to me. It’s fucking absurd.
16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
Oh god, where to do I fucking begin. Number one, I would have had a fucking real overarching plot for OUAT and I would have totally reworked seasons four through seven with more original spins. One of the things that attracted me to the show in the first place was how they took characters like Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood and they turned them on their heads and made them bad ass and unique. That didn’t seem to happen much post-season three. I would have changed Elsa and Anna up a bit instead of making them carbon copies of their movie selves. It would be something making Elsa morally grey and a boss ass political bitch who gives Regina a run for her money and make Anna an absolute tomboy who have no interest in being a princess but would rather be a flower child and walk around in the woods all day bare foot and incredibly strong because all she does is climb trees. I love the idea of playing Elsa off as winter and Anna as a spring. Work with that. That would have been an interesting thing.
Also, I actually did not enjoy the author arc at all. I get the idea of playing around with the characters as inverse/opposites of their true natures but I just rolled my eyes a lot. I would have done an entirely different arc, maybe looked more at realm traveling or you know actually address whether people want to return to the Enchanted Forrest. Hell, I would have maybe even done something about the town line and whether the citizens of Storybrooke wanted to explore the outside world.
Dark Swan was a wasted opportunity in my opinion and they really missed a chance to make Emma actually do some really crazy shit and you know confront some of the issues that had been buried under the rug in the past few seasons but that’s not biggest issue actually. I had more issues with the Underworld as a Greek mythology buff than I did with Dark Swan but how they did the Dark Ones thing could have been so much better. But Underworld deserves more of my beef. *sigh* That, personally to me, was a wasted arc creatively. Don’t get me wrong, I cried like a bit at the elevator scene but I feel like they should have gone more Greek myth than Disney Hades. I think I’ve said before to @katie-dub that it would have been more interesting if Hades wasn’t so much of an antagonist but more of someone who misleads them into thinking that Killian is in the worst part of the Underworld while he really isn’t, he’s either on the Asphodel Meadows and doesn’t remember her or in Elysium where he’s completely at peace and taking him back would pose more of a moral question for Emma on whether or not she should.
We can all agree that seasons six is a train wreck right? I was a little annoyed at the timelines and the issues brought up in regard to Captain Swan. It seemed like they were issues that had been addressed or should have been addressed in previous seasons. I found the whole wedding thing super rushed. I would have been content if Captain Swan had more of background role drama-wise and maybe they actually used the wedding to really build on Emma and Snow’s relationship more because it had been strongly ignored. The Black Fairy was a wasted villain and Gideon wasn’t really necessary. Let’s be real, that final battle was a massive letdown and the last time I checked a TLK doesn’t save you from normal mortal wounding. I kinda wished they played around with the Untold Stories Thing a bit more in S6. I would have totally nixed the Wish Realm and the Musical Episode even though I liked the music. I just found a lot of their plots confusing, unnecessary and tired.
Okay, I didn’t watch a lot of season seven but I do have an issue with the recycling of plots and characters. I don’t mind Jacinda or Tilly/Alice but I found the whole recycle of Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella a sign that the creative well had run dry. I wish they had work with new material and stories such as the Labyrinth, Black Cauldron, Treasure Island, Atlantis or even fucking Enchanted. They could have also worked in on some of the legends from 1,001 Arabian Nights, worked more with Greek mythology particularly the Odyssey or the Argonauts. There’s a lot of creative things they could have done and just didn’t do. You’re welcome to like season seven and the characters it introduced but it just felt more like a money grab with incredibly lazy writing.
22. Popular character you hate?
I have a feeling a lot of people might unfollow me for this one but David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor. Like I’m sure not a lot of people have noticed this but I do not reblog anything with Ten in it. I know he’s everyone’s favorite and people love him and think he’s attractive but I actually hate his treatment of Rose, Martha and Donna as well as his weird space casanova act. I actually don’t really like Ten/Rose that much mainly because Ten doesn’t seem to have the same love and denotation for her that Nine did and was totally cool with leaving her and Mickey alone in a murder robot infested space in the 51st century to chase after Madame Pompadour. I don’t think the Ninth “I could save the world but lose you” Doctor would have done the whole “does it need saying?” and would have left Rose in Pete’s World with his clone without giving her a say. I was really irked by that. He whined about how much he missed Rose for TWO. WHOLE. FUCKING. SEASONS and when she came back, he’s like “here, have my clone and fuck off.” It bothered me so much and I think a lot of Rose hate is honestly based off Ten’s melodramatic ass and how he whined about missing Rose and made Martha feel inferior. Martha Jones was a fucking boss and didn’t deserve the shit he gave her. And then, we have Donna, poor Donna who didn’t get a choice at all in her fate. He chose it for her and that will never not bother me. Rose, Martha and Donna deserved more. End of story.
