Honestly at this point Antis are just so fucking boring.

I get it, you can’t understand the concept of character growth and think Izuku is still afraid of Katsuki and you think Katsuki is still the total asshole he was at the beginning, I get it. I understand you can’t see that Katsuki was one of the only people who took Ochako seriously during their fight, I really do. I know you don’t realize that Ochako is one of the characters who gets Katsuki most, one of the few who understand he distances himself from Izuku because he was afraid of him. I get that you think any ship with Katsuki is abusive (except for Kiribaku for some reason). You all say the same damn shit and it gets old after a while. And honesty,

I really don’t care any more. You’re entitled to your wrong opinion lol. Block me if you’re an anti I’m tired of doing it myself.

Wow, that was a wild ride! I hope you all had a wonderful year.

I know some of my friends are already in the new year so I’ll say this now...!

Actually, to be fair, this year was much better than before and I’m eternally blessed. I made new friends and made new memories, and I can’t thank god enough for giving me this great year.

Name one thing you did this year that you’re proud of.

I worked really really hard to get into this new university I’m currently at, studying music. Now that I’m here, it’s an absolute dream compared to where I was before it wasn’t terrible, it was just far from my classically trained background and what I wanted to do in life. Creatively, I made huge leaps and bounds in a story that I’ve been drafting and outlining over the past few years. The progress in my creative life and the new friends and life choices I’ve made this year really make me happy.

Tell us an experience you enjoyed this year.

At the end of October, I visited my friends up at my previous university. I nearly burst into tears just stepping out of the airplane. The friends I made up there and the way that I presented myself cemented a great positive change for myself as a person. The morning before I had to leave, I asked my friend if we could go to the beach together. She said ‘yes,’ just because. Without pressure to speak, tell stories, or keep a constant conversation, we just walked the long path to the beach. As I stared out at that vast expanse of water, breathed in the sea breeze, and stood hand-in-hand with good company, I was reminded that life is alright sometimes.

Talk about something that has improved for you this year, however large or small.

My work habits. Before I went to university, I was addicting to churning out products and good grades that I neglected my person. Now, though, it’s become much easier for me to accept that I need a break from people, I need a break from productivity, and I need a break from believing the world relies on me. Even though I took a lot of breaks and let myself be very leisurely this semester, I still got a 4.0 at my new university in my first semester!!

What are you looking forward to?

At this university, the head of the music education department very emphatically stresses that we, as music ed majors, will be doing this for the rest of our lives. Being told this, not being able to change to a performance major, and my general habit of spiraling made me very stressed. But I spoke with my family and we agreed that after I get my degree and teaching credential, I can try out being a freelancer (for art and music).

I’m looking forward to creating things that I love to create, writing/arranging songs for the first time, and just doing the things that I like to do. I’d love to make new friends with similar passions as well (so anyone that wants to create something together, or just wants to chat for a bit, I’d love to start talking with you!)

Also looking forward to making more progress in a webcomic I’m planning!!

If I may throw my two cents into the shipping tags and popularity. From my observations, ships with female characters (especially wlw) tend to get overshadowed by mlm, even in fandoms where their are very few guy characters. For example, the game Project Sekai has only four guys compared to fifteen girls and one enby. But if you go to the AO3 page for this franchise, the top ship is mlm at 1019 entries. The second ship is also mlm (938 entries) and has nearly 400 more entries than the third highest ship, which happens to be the wlw ship with the most entries (542). People tend to gravitate to mlm content even when they aren’t a majority of the cast. Whether this is because of the belief that guy characters get more development in general (which can be true for some franchises but not all) or a subconscious bias to focus in on male characters is unknown to me. It would likely take some serious digging around and testing, a full on experiment.

In the case of Momo, while the factors above do play apart, she also has to deal with not having much screentime in general compared to other characters. Finals was the first arc to really focus in on her, but even then it is possible to argue that more could have been done with her. It’s a similar deal in the Forest Camp arc and Kamino, where while yes, she did help with locating Katsuki, there wasn’t much else she did there in the arc. And we don’t really get follow up for how she felt about doing that. The only characters we really reflect on are Izuku and Katsuki via their brawl in the training city. After that? She does play parts in other arcs, but they’re usually minor (Cultural Festival) or relatively balanced but eventually overshadows by others (Joint Training). We don’t see her really play much of a role at all in other big arcs such as Shie Hassaika or the ongoing Todoroki Family story (which takes up two arcs). There was strong potential for focus during the PWL arc given the leadership role she had to take up (as well as Midnight’s death), but we get practically no reflection for any of the characters who were involved in that section of the overall battle. Just suggestions of how they’re coping but not exploring it in full. Momo was in the Vigilante Izuku arc, but couldn’t contribute much because she doesn’t have a strong bond with Izuku compared to characters like Tenya, Shoto, and especially Ochako. And then the current arc? She’s on printer duty for Mei, and thus we aren’t really going to get to see her.

Momo has a good chunk of established character already as well as connections with others (both positive and negative), but there is far more room with her character that can be explored. And while fan works are the best place to do that, people tend to be drawn more towards characters who either have more screentime or more established character. Not always, mind you. People went nuts for Shinso even when we didn’t know much of anything about him. But he has the benefit of being a guy, and thus gets more attention. And while I would love for Momo to get more love in canon, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. Especially not when Izuku, the literal main character of the manga, is falling behind in terms of character development compared to Endeavor, who has been receiving an abundance of focus post-Shie Hassaika.

This probably isn’t the most satisfying of answers. Believe me, I would love a quick and easy answer for this kind of thing. I would love to be able to give a simple answer to why wlw ships aren’t more popular, or Hell, in the case of MHA, why what seems to be the endgame ship (Izuku/Ochako) isn’t that popular either despite their development and screentime. I can point to the gravitation towards make characters, but I can’t claim that to be the sole reason. Like I said earlier, to really know, it would take something like an experiment to figure that out. But I hope you can get something out of this analysis. (And I hope I didn’t fuck anything up or say the wrong thing)
