This person thinks that Padmé being 5 years older than Anakin is gross, but ships him with Obi-Wan who is 16 years older than him. Padmé may have been 14 while Anakin was 9 when they met, but Obi-Wan was 25 at the time and Obi-Wan went on to become Anakin’s mentor and guardian unlike Padmé who didn’t see Anakin again for ten years which is when their relationship became romantic. This is why I can’t stand Obikin and Obikin shippers.

I saw an anti-obikin post and I thought it was like satire so I checked out the tag and boy was I wrong. People really, really care about what other people ship. Now me 5 years ago would be defensive/angry/and probably hurt about what they say about "people like me". Now I feel mostly indifferent and genuinely a little sad for the more aggressive ones. In as a non-condescending way as possible to say it, I hope they have the opportunity to go to therapy, because there just has to be something deeper there going on. Are there ships I don't want to read, hell yeah, but I don't give a flying fuck if someone else does. Like sometimes I barely have the mental energy to brush my hair if I don't have to leave the house. I'm exhausted just thinking about being so obsessed with something fictional.

I hope people don't send you hate. You seem like such a nice person and are so sweet here on your page, plus you write amazing content. You deserve only kindness and not their anger.

I think the thing that hurts me the most with this kind of thing is that they can't even be on the same discord server/chat/etc with me. I shouldn't say that it really hurts me, but I would be lying if I said that it didn't bother me a little. That my ship of two fictional characters means that I'm so morally destitute that interacting with me is somehow wrong in and of itself.

I genuinely truly hope that the people who are overtly anti-obikin (or anti in general) are able to grow and see the world for the nuance that it has. Like you, I don't mean that at all in a condescending way. I just really hope they can find a little bit of peace because that's a lot of mental exertion to hate something that much!

I am with you that there are ships I don't care for but I give absolutely zero fucks about those ships and I'm really glad that the people who do like them have a space to talk about them!

There's at least one anti-obikin list I've ended up on. I've gotten a couple of weird anons, but nothing blatantly hateful which I am very thankful for!

I think it helps that I don't really do anything with my blog except obikin stuff. That's really all my blog is and if someone comes to it, they're not coming to it for anything else lol. I feel really bad for other obikin creators who have a blog that deals with a wider variety of things because I imagine they are probably more exposed to the fanbase at large.

Hi! It's pretty much just, "I watched The Clone Wars and got smacked in the face with how they did not act like I thought they would." When I first stumbled back into Star Wars, it had been a very long time since I'd been into it, probably since a bit before AOTC came out, and so I was originally a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan shipper. You could pretty much go down the line of Hot Takes Of SW Fandom and I bought into all of them--the Jedi were stagnant and brought about their own downfall, Anakin was kind of abused by them and not responsible for his own actions, Obi-Wan was Anakin's dad, the prequels were bad movies, Hayden Christensen's acting was terrible, etc. I was on all those trains. Then I just. Watch The Clone Wars. "Huh," I thought. "Obi-Wan's actually kind of trying to help Anakin here and Anakin's not listening." I watched some more. "Wow," I thought. "That is some very flirty dialogue they have going there. 'Study the bottom of my boot!' and 'Two steps forward and you'd be kissing it.' really??" I watched even more. "Wait," I thought. "The Jedi seem like they're actually right about a lot of this stuff, the Force and politics and the Separatists are actually going to kill everyone if they don't fight back and the Force really does need you to be calm and the dark side is in all of us but it's something you have to let go of." And then I started watching George Lucas interviews. "Ohhhhh," I thought. "The Jedi ARE right about 97% of everything and Anakin DID have help offered and chose to push them away because he was too afraid and didn't want to live a life that accepted things were transient and impermanent." Ultimately, it just comes down to that I never had any moral or ethical objection to Obikin, I just didn't feel the chemistry was right for me. But I watched more of The Clone Wars, I went back to the movies and saw ohhhhh no those two do not feel like they see each other as father and son to me, however, I do feel that from Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan now (ehhhh sort of), so that one's squicky to me now, personally, but I get Obikin. (And I still have no moral or ethical objection to Q/O, I get why people ship it, they see it differently than I do. I get why people are squicked by Obikin, they see it differently than I do! Both are are valid positions to have.) It helped that the Obikin part of fandom was very fun and there's a lot to be made of the Mustafar fight feeling like a big, dramatic divorce, that there are moments from official creators (like Stover's novelization or Gillard's interviews or even some of the things Lucas says about their narrative roles in the bigger story) that just sort of all helped ease the way further, but primarily it was just: Man, those two flirted in TCW and it tickled my brain chemistry real good.

13) No underage Rexsoka, unless it’s platonic. This means no content where Rex is an adult and he is sexually attracted to Ahsoka when she is a minor. Unless their ages are adjusted, no explicit romantic content before season 7. Pre-relationship fluff and Ahsoka having a baby crush are acceptable.

14) Do not share/repost content created by server members without their explicit permission. There may be instances where fics, art, headcanons, and general chatter is only intended to be shared in this private space.

15) Be respectful of the mods’ decisions and do not attempt to “mini mod”. If you see something that you think violates a server rule or have concerns about how a situation was handled, please DM one of the mods. In our efforts to keep channels clean and on topic, mods will delete any messages related to the incident after it is resolved.

16) The mods have the right to remove a member who is not in compliance with these rules. If a member is continuously violating rules, harassing other members, or otherwise impeding the enjoyment of the server for other members, the mods will determine a corrective action to be taken.

just realized my fave obikin dynamic is obikin-shipper anakin x obikin-anti obi-wan

So I’ve been watching the wank about Deborah Chow referring to Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship as a “love story dynamic” through Episodes 1-6, and how she hopes to channel that in the series. 

“For me, across the prequels, through the original trilogy, there’s a love-story dynamic with these two that goes through the whole thing,” Chow said in the interview with Vanity Fair. “I felt like it was quite hard to not [include] the person who left Kenobi in such anguish in the series… What’s special about that relationship is that they loved each other.”

Well, first things first.... calling Obi and Ani's dynamic a "love story" in an official interview is clearly intended as a non-sexual one. I would go further to say it's not romantic in our modern definition, but would likely fit into "Arthurian romance" with themes of adventure, courtly (chaste) love, and chivalry. 

It's interesting to me how the anti-Disney rightwing are REALLY focusing on it as a “gross gay groomer” thing. Bigots and homophobes are using the very idea of Obi and Ani loving eachother as some proof that Disney is “encouraging grooming” and using it to fuel their current boycott.

Meanwhile... anti-shipper, pro-censorship, pro-harassment types are either claiming “people who ship Obikin don't understand Chow meant it to be familial! freaks are taking it wrong!" or they’re taking it literally as the rightwingers are and saying “this is disgusting, I can’t believe they’re making this gross shit canon”. They’re just as furious as the rightwingers, despite being ostensibly left and many of them being queer themselves.

However... it's OBVIOUS TO ME that what Chow said about the story is absolutely true, but it's about these men loving one another PURELY, CHASTELY, NOBLY.

There is actually no way that Chow intended it to mean a sexual romantic relationship. I firmly believe this simply fits along with the recent trend of marketing things as “bromance” or “unconventional love story” between stuff like buddy cop stories, to get clicks and sound like they’re skirting the edge of things, when all they’re doing is showing men loving eachother AS FRIENDS. Which is great as a CONCEPT. You should love your friends!

Is it fun to go "HAHA THE CREATORS SHIP IT! OBIKIN WINS. OBIKIN CANON"? HECK YES. BECAUSE I SHIP IT! BECAUSE IT’S A GREAT DYNAMIC. (my definition of “ship it” is “I simply enjoy thinking about their relationship, and the many permutations of it, specifically in a romantic/sexual way. I don’t particularly care if it becomes canon and I don’t want to pressure the studio to do it, and I also am not a tinhatter, as in I don’t think they wrote it intending to be that way. Well, Matthew Stover’s book is borderline... but I digress.)

Do I actually believe they're going to make them queer and IN LOVE with eachother? Of course not. Like, literally, they NEVER intend that. And I won’t be disappointed! I like the canon relationship AS IT IS! But watching people get bent out of shape and super homophobic and calling people names and attack others over this is wild.

It’s canon that Obi-Wan cares deeply for Anakin, and if you look at the movies 1-6 arc alone, it’s really evident that their relationship as it exists is VERY IMPORTANT for the entire Star Wars narrative. Obi-Wan ignores the warning signs of Anakin going darkside because he’s attached. He cares about Anakin. He’s BIASED, and he’s a Jedi and they’re supposed to be above attachment, above bias. Meanwhile, when Anakin is manipulated into thinking that Padme and Obi-Wan were having an affair or conspiring or keeping secrets or turning Padme against Anakin... Anakin is SO DEEPLY HURT by that because he trusts Obi-Wan. He loves Obi-Wan and he is sure Obi-Wan feels the same. The betrayal is so much worse because he trusted him, loved him.

The script and novels make it more overt, since we can’t see what’s inside a characters mind onscreen, but it’s still there.

Obi-Wan goes to Tatooine to watch over Luke, Anakin’s son. He does this out of love. Once again, it’s NOT SEXUAL LOVE. Not in the canon. But simply saying they love eachother isn’t sexual, and I’m sick of people getting hostile over it.

I’m very intrigued to watch the upcoming show, because making sure the canon love is expressed there as PART of the reasons for the anguish sounds like a REALLY COMPELLING story.

I support everyone who likes it, even though I'm so hyperfixated on obikin that I don't ship anything else. It doesn't light up my brain, but I have zero objections to people chasing their bliss. The idea of an obikin shipper being an anti is deeply disappointing to me, because if anyone should understand what it's like to be harassed about a fictional ship, it's one of us. Maybe they haven't gotten messages encouraging them to kill themselves or calling them a child abuser like I have, but regardless they should be aware that it's not anyone else's business to interfere in what other people ship or how they ship it. If it doesn't light up your brain, filter the tag and move along, you know? People writing and making art is something to encourage, not shut down.

I wish beyond anything that I could answer 'yes' to this, but that would be a disservice to the ten or so people who I need to reply to already and haven't. I'm a weird hermit who gets overwhelmed by one-on-one conversations bc they take more social energy than I have on most days. Sorry >.< there are so many cool people on here that I genuinely regret I don't have the energy to befriend everyone and maintain those friendships. Maybe someday where I'm not quite as severely depressed the answer to this will be yes, but not yet <3

Soooo... I don't feel super comfortable directly linking the list from the OP's blog just because I don't necessarily want to generate traffic or give them reason to say that I sent "hate" towards them (not that I really think any of you would do that!!)

But basically what it is is a list of blogs that ship obikin (like yours truly) and create content around that ship. Then other more pure hearted people than us can block us all in one go and not have to interact with us or our dirty dirty ship.

I'm honestly a little surprised that 1) I made the list and 2) how many people were left of it lol

being obikin shipper and pro Jedi at the same time is such a struggle. Because on the one hand shippers (and not only obikin but from other sw pairs as well) can be incredibly anti jedi. And on other hand, pro Jedi people consider master/padawan shippers freaks (among other things) so you can hardly win being in the middle :/
