Don’t get me wrong I like Gwyn. But I don’t understand the obsession with inserting her into every aspect of Feyre’s life. There are headcanons in which Gwyn is besties with Rhys and Rhys always confides in her before anyone else. There’s headcanons in which Gwyn basically raises Nyx and yells at Feyre for being a bad wife, a bad sister, and a bad mother. There are fics in which Gwyn, who is a total stranger to Feyre, yanks Nyx out of Feyre’s arms and lectures her about motherhood - and Rhys will agree with Gwyn.
Someone mentioned before that it was very telling that it’s mainly Feyre who is always labeled the bad parent in these headcanons, but Rhys is rarely ever called a bad dad. These headcanons are centered around humiliating and debasing Feyre while hyping up their favorite characters. Feyre is very maternal, loyal, and compassionate - and yet people will erase these characteristics Feyre has to make their favorites seem better than her.
It’s all a competition. Feyre is compared to every single women in the entire series. Gwyn will always be more maternal than Feyre. Nesta will always be smarter than Feyre. Elain will always be kinder than Feyre. Feyre is pretty? Elain is prettier. Feyre is powerful? Nesta is more powerful. No matter what Feyre does, it’ll never be good enough.
And it’s easy to lionize their favorite characters (especially those who don’t get along with Feyre) if they villianize Feyre. People delude themselves into believing that Feyre, who cared for everyone in her family for years, would neglect Nyx because she has the audacity to have a job and a hobby. Apparently, Feyre is no longer allowed to have a hobby or be High Lady because that means she’ll neglect Nyx and Gwyn, Nesta, Elain and every other women in the series will have to step up and show Feyre how to be a mom. However, Rhys can have a job, he can hang out with his friends and Gwyn (who he isn’t even close to), and have hobbies while still being a good dad. Oh, and if Feyre did quit being High Lady and stopped painting to focus all her attention on Nyx - she be called a dumb housewife, Rhys’s pet, and Rhys’s breeder (which appallingly enough, someone actually already said that about Feyre) - and of course, Gwyn, Nesta, Elain and every other female would have to show Feyre how to be a powerful girlboss.
honestly the way gwyn stans will stop at nothing to make her character seem way more than she is is so weird. she is not gonna be that important, theyre setting her up for failure and i actually feel sorry for her.
like, feyre and rhys dont know that woman. rhys smiling and greating her politely (1) once doesnt mean theyre best friends. and he WILL NOT listen to her criticize his wife without smiting her on the spot.
and there aint NO WAY in hell feyre would let that girl handle her baby without her permission are you serious?? thinking gwyn will be better at taking care of nyx when it was feyre who spent most of her childhood taking care of her ENTIRE goddamn family. yeah feyre's got this no thank you. she's nyx's mom, and she knows whats best for that boy far better than some girl who's existence she's probably not even aware of.
mind you its not even just gwyn who theyre so hellbent at turning into nyx's replacement parent. i saw somebody make a headcanon about eris (ERIS OF ALL PEOPLE) snatching a crying nyx from feyre and expertly calming him down bc "hE hAd siX baBY broTherS" and im telling you i almost had a stroke.
and yes, i agree that the double standard against feyre is so disgusting. the way yall put rhys on a pedestal but have no problems doing everything to tear his wife down would seem so funny to him i guarantee. and then he'd kill yall for insulting feyre like that.
but honestly, i get why these idiots want feyre to be bad at everything, i really do. it's bc its canon that she's good at almost everything she does, so they feel like they have to "tone her down" so they can make their faves seem better and therefore, make themselves feel better about getting off on their hate boner for her. its shameful and i understand being embarrassed about that, i really do.
remember, jealousy is a very powerful drug. add a lot of delusion with a hint of of hypocrisy and a dash of stupidity and you'll overdose. be careful out there folks!

i want to make it clear that being critical of a character in acotar, specifically when they’re a woman, is not an all-or-nothing kind of thing where, because i criticize their actions or behaviors, i reject any sympathy or understanding for them. this is not the case. i’m not anti feyre, for instance, but rather anti some of the things she has said and done. i will always support the women in this series over everyone else, regardless of my personal feelings for them, because every single one of them are victimized in one way or another by the horrible men in these books.
with mor, for example, i’m critical of her abhorrent treatment of nesta and how this reflects on her as a female character who’s implied to champion other women who’ve suffered at the hands of abusive family members and men (which, in mor’s book, includes feyre but interestingly does not include nesta). alongside this, i am very empathetic and cognizant of mor’s own trauma—of her experiences with her abusive family, her fear of rejecting azriel, and everything that went down with eris (also this thing where sjm is trying to redeem him by making it seem like mor might have lied about her assault is VERY gross and gives off strong notes of victim blaming; i will support mor in this scenario, regardless of how i feel about her and whatever justifications sarah whips up to defend eris). but mor’s trauma does not excuse her actions, so it’s completely fair that i criticize her for them.
the same goes for feyre and elain. i don’t actively dislike them, but i’m very critical of a lot of their actions and behaviors throughout the books, especially their treatment of other women. still, this does not prevent me from empathizing with and supporting them as they overcome their respective struggles. even with nesta, i recognize that her words hurt the people around her and i don’t think everything she said was acceptable, but it still doesn’t get in the way of my empathy for her.
the reason that, even if i criticize or dislike them, i believe it’s essential to support the women in these books is because almost all of their trauma was caused by the men in their lives. their fathers, past and present lovers, the king of hybern—all these men have gravely harmed these women. even if they’ve done things i disapprove of, even if i don’t like their character at all, i will always stand with them. they are victims and survivors. this trend i keep seeing in the fandom of blaming them for their trauma instead of the men who literally abused them because said men are “hot” and/or “misunderstood” is so ugly. let’s stop that right now.

Feysand/IC stans -> doing nothing but pointing out canon facts,
Nesta/Tamlin/Eris stans -> need to criticize other characters to make them look better and just talking non-canon shit.
That’s the fandom🤷🏻‍♀️💀

Am I the only one who doesn't care about the Illyrians, the Valkyries, Ruhn x Lidia, CC universe/books and the crossover with CC? SJM is so bad at writing that NONE of the acosf plot had me invested. I'm waiting until the last acotar book, Elucien ,Tamlin and Koschei lol 😆
(I love Emerie, Nesta and Gwyn, but the story is already preparing the Valkyries to be Night Court cronies, with Emerie and Gwyn going star eyed when they saw Rhys).

Every time I think about the scene in acosf where Eris tells Nesta not to believe the "lies" about him and that Mor knows the truth but hasn't said anything and that the inner circle accept a version of the truth that's easier to swallow I genuinely get so angry. I mean, how else are people supposed to interpret that except that Mor is lying or is a false accuser? I HATE that sjm seems to want to write an Eris redemption arc (or just an arc in general ig) that's just a weaker Rhys redemption arc that comes at an expense of a queer woman who has canonically experienced extreme abuse and is still deeply affected by Eris. We have Lucien AND Mor saying that Eris is an abuser previously and then we get this in acosf? I know Eris is going to play a part in the upcoming books considering how much he was in acosf, but I'm going to be so furious if his arc comes at the expense of Mor (and even if the narrative doesn't do that I guarantee the fandom will further demonize Mor because Eris is a poor baby).

your thoughts on eris?
sorry for taking so long to respond!
i find him disgusting. we have nothing so far besides him saying ''there's more to the story between mor and me'' for me to feel anything other than disgust. i have no interest in reading anything about him and i find it weird how he has so many fans with so little content.

U know..the other day i was watching a yt video about ACOTAR/SJM-verse theories and one was saying 'Eris knew Mor was gay that's why he put a nail into her & dropped her in Velaris so that he would not embarrass his family by braking the engagement & set Mor free' & i was like...this actually might happen given SJM's track record of 'men abusing women for their own good'... ( this video also had some interesting theories ab Elain but again, given SJM's track record idt they will happen)
i wanna answer this because it’s been on my mind lately!
i’m ngl, i’m extremely worried for what sjm is going to do with the whole eris & mor debacle. we know that she’s teased there’s more to the story than we think, and that eris may be more innocent or at least less involved than he seems, but it’s alarming because, no matter what route she takes, it’s almost guaranteed mor’s character and trauma will be diminished and reframed for the sake of redeeming eris’s.
is she going to say that mor lied (🫤) about or twisted the details of the story, and in her retelling painted eris as the bad guy? if this is admitted, be it by mor or eris (hell or even rhysand probably because that mf seems to know everything about everyone somehow) then it’s super weird because not only is mor’s whole thing truthfulness or wtv but also because...a woman lying about her abuse? not the best look, sjm, especially considering you and many others champion your series as one that discusses themes of abuse towards both men and women and uplifts those abuse survivors. and it’s even weirder because it would become a theme of sjm’s—feyre lied about her abuse to tamlin and lucien when she let them believe rhys rāped her, and now we would have mor also be a woman who let others think the worst of a man just to allow him redemption after being shitty. this revelation would add to eris’s character whilst simultaneously reducing mor’s. reframing mor’s trauma to make eris look better is…certainly A Choice.
i detest the notion that eris played whatever part he did in mor’s abuse “for her own good”. if given a proper explanation, i can likely come to understand why he did what he did, but that isn’t justification for his treatment of mor. it doesn’t absolve him of the part he played in the autumn court, nor does it absolve him of the disgusting slut-shaming he aimed at mor in front of all the other high lords.
sjm is always so hell bent on redeeming these villainous characters instead of simply just letting them be villainous and understanding that their “morally grey” actions are an essential part of who they are as a character. eris is compelling as morally grey, he’s even compelling as a villain, but he’s not compelling as a secret good guy who hurt a woman but “for her own good!!!” and actually has a heart of gold beneath his woman-hating exterior. i’m sick and tired of seeing that characterization in men in all ya/na fantasy romance books these days.
idk what sjm was thinking when she wrote this weird ass plotline. if she wanted to make eris a hot, villainous character i’m sure she could have accomplished that without connecting him to mor’s abuse. but again, Choices were made and now we must sit back and watch as sjm jumps through hoop after hoop trying to excuse yet another abusive man.

Those who share my opinion, great! Those who don't, don't try to persuade me or tell me that my opinion is shit just because you disagree with it. It's an OPINION. Be an adult and get over it. Everyone has their favourite people and characters, so don't spread the hate because I don't like a character that you love.
