denying so hard that there's a disconnect between what im learning within art, and other skills needed but it's undeniable that like. ill draw anatomy studies and faces all day but when i try to Make Something Else, Something Real, it's like all the information leaves me....

i always joke that ill be stuck on the foundations and fundamentals of art forever but it seems like its real because mechanical skill and comprehension of Structure is very much a different thing than. being able to connect a head and body in a streamlined way. good stylization. informed stylization. creativity. knowledge of composition, color and what makes a piece work.

i keep trying to make things and realize i still need more time in the fundamentals. more and more and its never enough....and then i forget em constantly !

Please say more about the awful Asian designs in Danny Phantom. I'm not Asian but I'd love to have a rundown on the elements that make them offensive so I can avoid and critique those elements in other works. And also you deserve to speak your mind about it

im gonna mostly talk about southeast asian designs since thats what i am and the most familiar with and also what i feel are the show's worst transgression with their casual depictions. tw for racist imagery im gonna link pictures.

there's not much to say about the designs aside from, you know, everything but things to note are the unnatural yellow tone for the skin and closed slanted eyes. veggie burger (fan name for the bg character in the middle) also suffers from the huge nose that sometimes shows up in racist depictions. the straight edge/cut hair as well is somewhat stereotypical. this one isn't as bad but in conjunction with everything else its not ideal. i will give the smallest molecule of credit that at the very least dp never gave any of these bg characters buck teeth.

some depictions are better than others, but theres still missteps happening in one aspect or another. kwan's eyes in a lot of shots/episodes can be too skinny and even too slanted, the girl in the middle is almost perfect but her skin is too yellow (she looks kinda okay on my computer screen but i remember when watching dp on my tv she looked real brightly yellow), and principle ishiyama (who was weirdly forgotten about pretty early on in the show and was replaced by lancer doing most of the school stuff despite not being principle?? which is a whole other issue with how dp treats its poc characters) the same usual notes about the slanted eyes but also the upturned nose is pretty reminiscent of racist japanese art during ww2. again it is not the worst way to draw a nose but combined with everything else in this show's depiction of asian characters its not great, they are on thin ice man.

not to mention, principle ishiyama is the only character here with brown eyes. this is a problem that extends to all poc characters in dp and to my knowledge i think ishiyama might be the only one with them tbh. this is, again, a whole other issue though.

i think the thing that bothers me most about these designs though is that dp is very clearly aware that these depictions are bad. the only difference between the first set of characters and the second is one singular thing: they have a clear speaking role.

suddenly when theyre not stock background characters, dp knows how to act when drawing them. i cannot for the life of me find the image of it, but the last jock guy in the first set gets a speaking role in reign storm (he's cosplaying phantom) and he is drawn with proper open eyes! (theyre also blue but whatever) it just makes me sad that this was a clear choice they made.

the show also went in a different direction in the final product, but early development stuff was really drawing from a lot of japanese/asian influences like danny was originally gonna have a motorcycle (pulling from ghost in the shell) and was even referenced in the show via the akira motorcycle reference (which i once again, for the life of me, cannot find. danny took johnny 13's motorcycle and did the classic akira slide i think it was in million dollar ghost?? idk whichever one where the giw are trying to blow up the ghost zone). danny's name was originally gonna be jackie, named after jackie chan, this i assume was given to jack fenton afterwards. and i think the show having a more martial arts direction with the action was also gonna be a thing? that one could be wrong dont quote me on that, there was an episode where danny and vlad have like a weird ninja fight though im pretty sure.

either way my point here is that they wanted to pull from all these influences and it was prominent enough during development that they sprinkle references to it throughout the show and yet their portrayal and treatment of asian characters in the show is so abysmal it just feels Bad™, you know? i cant really put it more eloquently than that, like its very take and no give with it.

it overall just puts a bad taste in my mouth, and its sad that it still affects people years later. like i mentioned in the tags of the post that started this discussion with that whole old trend of putting yourself into the bg of dp screenshots, i felt alienated by that. and its not the people who participated's fault obviously but most of the people i saw participating were white fans (going off of how they drew themselves) and it made me a bit mad that they were able to enjoy the style of the show in a more carefree manner than i ever could. i didnt want to ruin anyone's fun obviously, but a small part of me wanted to bring to light how i wasnt on equal ground with them in that situation.

how do you improve on capturing the essences of characters in fanart? like your twdg fanart looks SO good. but when i try to draw fanart of the characters i end up with something that looks nothing like them. any advice?

hmmmm ive never articulated this so hopefully i can answer this well enough

most importantly i did studies of them. and by studying i mean really paying attention to and breaking down the shapes AND proportions of their faces. both are equally important to capturing someones likeness. its why i did this lineup. just really breaking them down

ask yourself what features make this character identifiable. what makes them look like Them? aside from their shapes, its usually in the proportions of features relative to each other (size of chin/distance of eyes/width and height of nose/features relative to the size of the face/stuff like that). knowing proportion rules will help you here (distance between eyes=one eye length=width of nose. corners of mouth line up between inner and center of eyes. ear length between bottom of nose and center/tops of eyes (theres a lot of rules but these are the ones i consider most)). even if a character has close features they will still averagely be in proportion to each other and same goes for a character with wide features. let the rules guide your eye

when i draw a character i usually start by drawing the shape of the head First (i also do this when doing regular portrait studies). then add the features. it helps to keep things in proportion when you know your boundaries

when i break down the shape of the head i pay attention to these areas: forehead to cheekbones, cheekbones to jaw, jaw to chin. also cheekbones to upper lip if im drawing them from an angle. is their structure rounder and softer or harder and angular? a wide jaw or a small one? wide chin small chin? lower cheekbones higher cheekbones/general prominence? long head or short head?

then i worry about the features themselves. aside from using rules to plot them, this is where shape become important again in capturing their likeness. clem and aj both have larger eyes but weighted differently (clem rounder on the outside. aj rounder on the inside). louis' are more almond shaped. violets more hooded. are the eyebrows thinner or thicker? do they have shape? (clems have a triangulation to them (specifically S1-3) but violets are more simple lines. louis' are thicker and taper off. aj's are pretty small and not too thick). shape of the nose? shape of the mouth? the lips? are they fuller or thinner? wide? pout?

another thing for likeness when drawing characters like.. Actually Living is to consider what emotions drive their reactions/expressions. characters express feelings differently. how does this character express anger? sadness? happiness? are they more open with their feelings or reserved? are they unimpressed? do they get shy? what embarrasses them? what excites them? are they mischievous or more serious? its about the overall behavior of the character and the cumulative average of their emotional reactions to create a sort of baseline to work from (does this make sense? 😭)

UUHHH.. im sure theres more i could say but thats the gist of it. just takes time and practice. use references!! dont be afraid to trace them either if youre stumped itll help 💕

i do have a little story cooking right now, so here it is vvv (dont feel obliged to read it idm! i also like archiving my stuff here)

initially i was incredibly sympathetic over carmine's status as the tormented trainer. i was very interested with how the devs reimagined creepy black to look like because carmine is a character made for the mod only so i just looked at carmine and went :] aw lil guy...

I wanted to try to copy the perdition artstyle... so i chose creepy black's color palette and accidentally made a brother along the way 💥 told myself eventually that - yeah I think carmine needs a nice big brother

rhys is a relaxed, laid back kanto champion. red - or should I say, PROFESSOR REDwood is a retired trainer so his champion days are over for sure, and rhys is the current champion in whatever year it's taking place.

i haven't thought too deep to really stitch the story together but as the story goes, carmine goes on an unexpected rampage to curse every trainer and pokemon (which kills them in the process) which prompts professor redwood to really investigate what's going on. rhys, who's learning about the casualties as time goes on - puts his champion duties on hold to also investigate what's happening - he doesn't even know that carmine was the one partially responsible for this - so at the same time, rhys is looking for carmine to protect him from this mass genocide...

he feels regretful, perhaps he shouldn't be too relaxed and reassured that his little brother can do things on his own. but then again, it's not like rhys has all the time either to be with him. being a champion is such a chore, isn't it?

i imagine a sequence where redwood confronts carmine and ghost as the mod plays out, taking place in the abandoned pokecenter. rhys would hear this commotion and try to look into the place, and would soon discover that the perpetrator is carmine and the horrid ghostly entity that plays puppet on his poor brother. even if it was his first time seeing them, the strange aura was all too familiar because rhys swears he feels that sensation everytime he witnesses another accident. it's definitely gotta be them, but why carmine?

love the idea of a one on one confrontation with rhys and carmine tho... it's your brother but you need to stop this madness, what're gonna do?

I think Naegi would be horrified! All the other students live in the doorms. With like... actual bedrooms, with stuff in there. And they interact with other students and their dormmates regularly.

Well i assume they live in dorms i suppose if you live nearby you wouldnt need to.

I always imagined the characters living nearby for some reason it just occured to me most of them probably dont. oop-

But yeah, Makoto would be horrified that Izuru is so isolated from everyone else. For the school's golden child, he really gets... awful treatment. Treated more like a science experiment or a prisoner than a student.

Kamukura is still.. technically a teenager, when you think about it. His age is kinda fucky, seeing as he was "concieved" in a moment, and his mind formed in another person's body, but my point still stands. No wonder he's bored all the time! For someone will all that knowledge and skill, he hasn't lived much. Especially since he spends most of his time in that dismal room. It reminds me of White Torture- when you isolate someone in an empty, all-white room, minimise human interaction, and even feed them only plain white foods.

Its enough to make enough lose it after a while, and for someone like Kamukura- who's already understimulated, it really must be an even greater torture.

I think Makoto would insist he be moved- and if that wasn't allowed, do everything he could to make the environment more enriching, or at least welcoming. String some lights up, put decorations up, get some coloured bedsheets in- maybe even paint the walls or something. There's quite a bit of room in there, so maybe put in a bean bag, a desk with a comfy chair and a lamp, a shelf for books and drawing materials. Just. Stuff, y'know? Even if it doesn't alleviate his boredom, it's better than being surrounded by nothing.

Makoto would definitely visit a lot more often too, and text more. Sleepovers aren't quite allowed (though eventually Izuru would knock out the staff and sneak over to Makoto's dorm room. But he hasn't quite gotten to that stage yet), so they can't do that, but Makoto compensates for it by video calling once a week, to every other day, to eventually more or less every day as the relationship progresses. The thought of Izuru all alone... it makes him too upset for words. He makes a lot of handmade stuff for him- think felt animals, silly little craft items.

They er- dont always turn out 100% as according to planned (think like the image below LOL) but much to the staff's bemusement he keeps them anyway. Whereas he's find the attempts pitiable in anyone else, these spark a strange feeling of warmth in him, and when he falls asleep, it's with an oddly pleasant buzz in his chest.

I finished osnf after almost 2 months and

You know that feeling when you finish a piece of media you really enjoyed, whether it be a show or game or book. And now its over and you can never go back and experience it for the first time again.

i think my favourite scene outside of the liz, thiago, joui scene in the last episode, was the bit after they killed the big slug in the asylum. idk the pacing of it was just really cool to me, the drawing in the sludge and losing sanity without realizing. for me it set up this feeling of "you cant trust anything you dont know for certain about" for the entire rest of osnf.

that fucking house btw. i wanted them to leave that house the moment they got gregorio out of that room. i have a burning hatred for that house. i would like for that house to explode.

Talking about Ryuki and Geats with @skajador and I can finally articulate what it is that I actually take issue with in Geats

Because here’s the thing: I Love the series, I really do, I’ve been enjoying it the whole way thru for so many reasons that I’ll go into in another post sometime. But I think it’s biggest weakness (one of them at least) in comparison to a season like Ryuki (which I’ve been watching at the same time) is that the pacing does not give the characters room to breathe.

Ryuki does an amazing job with making every episode feel significant in that it does contribute to the overall plot, but it also paces things slow enough that we get filler episodes, or parts of other significant episodes that still give the cast room to connect outside of the Rider War!  The Ore Journal crew gives Shinji room to connect with other people that ground his humanity while giving the audience a chance to process stuff outside of the action and to see Shinji as just a normal guy in more mundane situations outside of being a Rider! We know what kind of person he is on just a normal day when fighting isn’t involved. The same goes for the likes of Kitaoka, like we see him do stuff with Goro all the time, we see him get filler with both Shinji and Ren, we see him hang out with the Ore crew multiple times outside of the overarching plot and it makes him and the others feel more real. We know them much better overall for this and it makes the Overall story for everyone feel much more significant and better written as a result.

With Geats, the characters are not Lacking in characterization, but they really aren't given enough time outside of the breakneck pacing to really get to know each other As People outside of the games. There are small moments of this, like Ace and Keiwa having a midnight snack together or shopping for birthday gifts for Neon, or like the moments we see Ace give/make food for Michinaga and the bits with them drawing in ep 37, but we dont get full episodes of the more mundane stuff outside of little glimpses. And its kinda sad! Because there Is things that make each character interesting that would be great to see given more focus, and it would be cool to see them actually interact outside of the games, to kinda defy the whole “everyone is my enemy” thing the games force them into. Ryuki does it and does it well, and I can think of quite a few ways Geats could have done it too (like an episode fully from the perspective of Neon live streaming stuff with the core Riders perhaps.) But it just Doesn’t, and I do think that hurts the whole show at times.

As much as I love Geats, this is One area where Ryuki definitely has it beat as far as shows with Rider Wars involved. I feel like I know the cast of Ryuki much more in detail outside of battle than I do with Geats, and that kinda sucks when Geats has some really good characters within the core four riders.

out of curiosity what abt people drawing characters as red + mr nobody and then calling it a transistor au do you like? no hate I’ve just never seen anyone with strong feelings on the subject haha

short answer: im mean. i hate shipping. i hate fandom culture. long answer:

i dont like shipping very much to begin with. i prefer more concrete analysis of what is actually in a given storys text. if theres romance, theres romance. if there isnt, there isnt. if theres romantic subtext/implications, its fun to analyze. i might humor the idea of characters in non-canon pairings, but i do not enjoy shippy fanfic. i do not see the fun in engaging with romance-centric media/fanfic constantly and/or squeezing 2-3 ships one becomes obsessed with out of every story one engages with. i find that most people that are really into shipping to the point of making/enjoying "[setting] aus" of the ships they like are seeking substantial romantic threads when there are none to be found in the source story. just read a different more romantic story lol. theres lines between "lets imagine the characters in a different setting" and "lets imagine if this pairing i like was recognized in-text" and "lets imagine the characters as a pairing in a different setting specifically so i can play out how i want them to kiss like theyre my dolls". like... sure, thats fine, but it bores me personally, and i get mad with it when it sort of tramples on the related characters or stories in favor of shipping.

transistor is a complete and self-contained story that centers on romance. it isnt a little template to force whatever jigsaw pieces youre currently interested in into. thats a really sad way to treat stories. aus are fine and fun im not your boss but almost all of these "transistor aus" are not actually about transistor. its all "what if my current favorite character couple was exactly like the transistor couple?" with no thought put into it past "its angsty". it feels like people are treating transistor as a source of inspiration towards something "more important" rather than recognizing it as its own whole work. transistor as a story employs tropes but its just the one story thats exactly like this... there is no "transistor trope". its not a widely recognized work thats commonly imitated/parodied. no one else goes through exactly what these two protagonists went through within the same game for it to be an in-story trope. no other unrelated characters fit the story's exact bill in a believable way, because they are from other stories.

in another life if the game was massively popular and genre-defining (lol) enough to bring that opening pose to an iconic status i wouldnt have a problem with all this. but it literally isnt. its an indie game thats popular enough to have people adore its soundtrack for life, yet very few people are actually talking about the game on tumblr in 2023. people keep posting about their limited tip of the iceberg perception of the game exclusively as a vehicle for unrelated ships. do you understand how frustrating that is??? people feel the emotional impact of transistors story and care deeply for its protagonists but halt their analysis of it there. its "this romance is tragic and i like it, how can i adapt it to my interest in shipping?" rather than "wow, i like this story that contains a romance, lets explore the full cryptic plot of the game as a cohesive and whole story".

i hate those aus because they betray an embarrassingly surface level understanding of red and mr nobodys deals + the entire games setting and plot + an obsession with shipping im too old to care for :/ the main tag on this site most often updates to have one of these aus rather than more straightforwardly on-topic posts. or at least it feels that way for me, someone who dislikes them lol. its really saddening to see an already overlooked indie game with a rewardingly complicated and hard to uncover plot (that most players dont bother to engage with) go further unengaged-with in favor of a butchering of a uniquely tragic and well written romance.

(spoilers if youre somehow unfamiliar yet on my blog) mr and mrs transistor's entire dynamic is born from the fact theyre a famous celebrity singer and unnamed off the grid bodyguard couple in love to the point of dying for one another within their strange futuristic 1930s-esque cyberpunk setting. they have specific disillusionment and despair problems tied to the city they love, and an over-willingness to die for one another. they kept their romance/engagement a secret, and thats why the guy is killed. red is running from robots that are trying to kill her. these are very very very specific parameters. you cannot divorce them from cloudbank + their love towards her and produce the same dynamic. you cannot give red and her man an entirely different set of personality traits and say the story would still play out the same. its not a primarily "singer/bodyguard" romance story, its a cyberpunk utopia robot apocalypse love story. there is much more to this story than its romance, but you cant have one without the other. if you only actually want to borrow the "singer/bodyguard" aspect, just... say that. why make it transistor specific. ditch the part where one of them is getting usb stick stabbed. everyone who i see place their blorbos into this dynamic is treating this one of a kind game's protagonists as if theyre a preset "trope" that any set of characters can fit into if you ship them hard enough. they really, really, really arent.

furthermore im extremely picky with what fictional romance interests me to begin with, and my interest does not extend to "what if we stripped these characters of their setting and development and entire reason to be who they are / why theyre in love and think about what they would be like in place of other super unrelated characters". i dont really like aus like that. they can be fun maybe in extreme cases but i would rather think about javascript. the "current blorbo + other blorbo = 🤔" mindset hinges on how accurately one read the text of both blorbos to actually work. it feels like online nowadays stories are being treated as something to consume, map your entire personality around temporarily, draw as much inspiration as possible from, then move on to the next, repeat. people eat the top layer of transistor, then move on very quickly. its fine but it tires me. also the m/f ships are ''less valuable'' than m/m ships aspect "transistor but make it gay😜" style. stop doing that. there are in-text gay characters in this story. red is slightly implied to be bi. open your heart to well-written m/f romance. or the aspect of people projecting what they personally desire upon ships and mass consuming/producing progressively further from canon shippy works out of their own loneliness (not the case with everything, but yknow.) which i personally find strange. its aggravating to see my favorite characters willfully misinterpreted for projections sake. i like romance in stories, but not in a shipping way. i dont like thinking of pairings i like as part of a maintained list of ships i care for or tags i check on tumblr. my interest in those pairings cannot be separated from my interest in their source material. the tightly written romance in transistor is something i really enjoyed about it. i thought others would recognize how special it is. sigh

this is just me though im mean. others can like these aus and feel free to make their own. its your art/stories. have fun online

How you decide what character emotion portraits to make for Start Again/Stars in Time? Do you do the script first and then make portraits based on that, or do you have a different system? :0

it's been a while but at the start i think i just drew The Big Emotions (talking while smiling, talking while being sad, being sad, thinking, surprised, and maybe a Special Character Emotion for each (like the housemaiden going all awawawa!!! or the researcher reading. thats their Special Character Emotions)), and i add portraits as needed!

as an example from the prologue, i already had an angry face for the kid ready (left), and then when I got to implementing the King battle dialogue and the kid gets mad, i thought that face wasnt angry enough- they wouldnt get mad here the same way they get mad while talking to everyone else, thats the KING who FROZE THE COUNTRY IN TIME!!!! THATS THE BAD GUY!!!!! so i drew another one (right). more desperate, more childish/protective (fetal position!), more teeth (because when you get angry you show teeth!), with eyes closed because theyre so!!!!! mad!!!!! aaaaaaa!!!!!

i usually think about adding new expressions at the script stage, but i tend to leave the drawing till i actually have to add the expressions to the scene. if im at the adding expressions stage and i cant find a face that fits (expressions i have are too tame, or too extreme), thats when i draw a new one. usually i just draw over an existing pose, but sometimes the pose isn't cutting it, so i draw a whole new one. in the last few weeks ive drawn a couple more for odile and bonnie and sif! moments need to hit! i draw comics! i know what emotions are! etc

i do tend to go very granular in my expressions drawings and ive accepted this about myself. see look you might think this is the same emotion but it is not. notice the eyes. in the first one she is giving me "haha... this is awkward... i am telling an awkward story about myself.... dont laugh at me..." or even "haha, what?" vibes but in the second she is giving me "oh... YOU are telling me an awkward story about yourself... i think you were stupid to do this but i am well behaved so i will just laugh awkwardly..." or even "you're lying to my face rn.... its fine... i guess you dont trust me that much.... oh no...." like in the second one you can feel the pity/shame/pain in her eyes you can feel it its DIFFERENT!!!!!!!! this is why my portraits count is currently at 340. save me

honestly I feel like cahiers are decent with posca because theyre not really absorbent and posca marks tend to sit on the page as opposed to soaking through anyways. umm i wouldnt like... use it to do a whole posca piece or anything but i use poscas just for pops of color in my sketchbook pretty often and it holds up ok. sometimes u can see the shadow of the color through the paper bc its thin but thats mostly it. i took pics of some sketchbook pgs and how the back of the page looks so you can see for yourself ( cw for bakudeku LOL ) ...theres a lot of like.. normal brush pen ink and india ink that penetrates the paper more like even compared to the black posca

I feel like I’ve probably talked about this before in another ask post but i dont really think about style because its one of those things that artists should try to change depending upon intention, what you’re drawing and what you want to communicate etc. what people often recognize as style are quirks that an artist maintains throughout changing their subject and approach.....ANYWAYS. thats all to say my style probably just comes out of normal stuff like looking at other art and thinking “I want to do that” or trying out different mediums and methods and settling with whatever feels the best LOL. It’s always changing & growing! Because I’m always learning new stuff!

Theres a lot! I really like the scene when daisukes lying awake in bed thinking abt how ken’s heartbeat felt. And the scene when they have a sleepover and ken wakes up first and looks over to daisuke sleeping LOL idk subtle stuff you can read very clearly as like burgeoning queer moments.. theyre recognizable from my own queer childhood and i love that in a kids anime. also at the end of the series when theyre fighting the final boss dude and ken grabs daisukes arm to ask him to jogress but hes shivering and daisuke just turns to say “youre shaking....” and in revenge of diaboromon when ken goads daisuke into endurance running by taunting him about soccer LOL (jock romance). but one i rly want to mention is theres this youtube video about how ken and daisuke’s honorifics change over the course of the series and how significant it is when they switch over to first name basis and honestly i think about it a lot THEY HAVE GREAT SCENES!! I love ken and daisuke

HI ANON. um this is gonna be a long one.

so basically its a dnd inspired fantasy au, with the party as their dnd characters, classes pulled from this post , definitely didn't have to scrounge through my save blog for that, by @/elekinetic, if they didn't already have them. because it's real and true.

basest plot outline i can possibly give you is as follows; as young children all of the members of the party were Marked somehow for Evil and Villainous purposes, or perhaps Good and Benevolent purposes, but it stands that they marked. (by whom? well. tch. heh.) this mark comes with this innate.. pull? i guess? to the other members, but not strong enough to be noticeable, more of a seeing the others and thinking "oh! there you are! i've been looking for you!" despite never meeting before. the group starts as mike and will finding each other, before it all kinda spirals and they form a little adventuring party, led to their next destination by their faithful cleric, who alongside the original pull, feels another drawing them all to wherever the universe decides they Need To Be.

that's like. the concept i guess? i really don't want this to run too long so i'm putting more ideas and villainy and art and such under the cut :-D be warned i hate most punctuation and i love to ramble.

OK SO. first of all edward and henry are twins so jot that down. something Terrible and Unspeakable happens to the rest of their family when they're like 12ish and they run for the hills, eventually stumbling upon the mansion dwelling of a reclusive and moderately to severely insane mad... scientist? not entirely sure what brenners fantasy world equivalent profession would be. anyway yeah its brenner the twins are tricked duped swindled and had until theyre locked in his basement and become his newest experiments.

brenner is basically training them to be his guard dogs/weapons of mass destruction and is doing. canon typical things to them. until henry's like hey maybe you're right the world kinda does suck but id be sad if it all burned to the ground :-( i don't see how that's helping. (this is possibly spurred on by a spot of creelarke and scott chilling in gardens and teaching him that not all science is bad and mean and also that brenner is kinda full of shit) and for this grave crime he is locked in the attic.

vague handwavy magic plot bullshit (motives? where were going we dont need motives) blah blah edward has Marked/Cursed the party members woah oh noo!!!

this is mostly a vehicle to think really hard about fantasy byler and lumax and pre-UD-esque henry interacting with the party through their dreams to aid their Great Quest so try not to breath on it too hard. it may or may not fall apart.

Bc, some people think those moments were meant to draw a contrast rather than a direct parallel.

People think that Will being in between Mike and El's scenes is not necessarily there to imply that Mike likes Will but rather is there to show Will's unrequited feelings, because Will was blurred whereas Robin was at the center of the scene where we watched her visibly being sad but Will was not sad, he was blurred in the background and when Mike and El have a forehead touch moment, he is entirely out of the picture.

Also, people do not exactly notice which music plays at which scenes. Only if they are interested in analyzing or searching, then they can find. Another example is, we know about the 'tender emotional music' because we focused on that and then made an analysis, but even then that wouldn't necessarily look like byler proof to the other parts of the audience, esp when that same music also plays for a melvin scene in one of the scenes where they talk.

It's also that Dan and Vickie broke up but Dan is just some random character, whereas El is a main character and we have been following Mike and El's relationship for seasons (that's how the audience thinks), and they gave Mike a huge monologue, whether or not we argue that it happened due to Will, it still happened. Even if Mike and El do not exactly talk, it does not look like a byler proof for some people but it rather looks like a casual relationship drama which will be resolved in S5 like Jonathan and Nancy's underaddressed situations.

I am saying this bc while I am a byler shipper and I think the narrative has a chance to make Byler fully canon, I also have many queer friends or in general friends who belong to GA, and I can also understand their points when they say that they do not see byler happening because majority of the proof that we have seem far-fetched, random or delusional to them.... or just not enough of proofs in general.

yes i literally just said i know people find it harder to believe in byler because main characters are involved in the love triangle whereas dan and vickie are side characters, and that’s as far as i’ll get their sentiments.

about all your other points, yeah i know that these are all reasons why people from the GA think most byler proofs are farfetched...but it doesnt mean their arguments are valid and understandable though lmao. the rovickie/byler parallels aren't even that hard to pick up on, and if it was only meant to contrast the two relationships then will being out of focus while robin isn’t wouldn’t be the ONLY thing different about their scenes cause everything else is pretty much identical to each other, mike and vickie even have similar conflicted expressions when they look at will and robin (and its ON THEM for not noticing that). also even if will is blurred out he still stands out the most cause he’s dead in the middle of mike and el’s faces and his figure immediately draws your attention (heck he was the first thing i noticed as a casual viewer while watching vol 2), which makes no sense for someone who’s supposed to be just “entirely out of the picture”...and about the monologue. something tells me its just double standards against a queer ship cause this isn’t exactly the first time a character seemingly professes their undying love for another character but still ends up with someone else 🤔

what im trying to say is yeah its true that they have all these reasons for not believing in byler endgame but at the end of the day...how am i just supposed to understand the points they have when they’re the ones who cant read into things that aren’t supposed to be very complicated when you have common sense, and i dont really think their thought process/reasonings are particularly strong anyway. also in this context...the rovickie/byler parallel is literally one of our least “random” byler proofs that just came out of thin air, its very much in your face so 😭 i guess i’d understand if you were talking about other more tiny background hints in relation to this topic but this one is pretty blatant...sorry for going into a tangent

I'm going to go with this one. Because ... Look, as a parent, I have issues with the way people treat Marion, Veth, Yeza.... and especially Deirta. I cannot stand her being just a monolith of abuse. Essek is perfectly capable of making shitty, selfish choices, and being his evil little twinky self without it being his mother's fault. Sure, sure, he found love (platonic and romantic) and it fixed him, whatever. But Deirta is literally hundreds of years old. She's a religious leader, she has a spouse, and likely had many children. She's 'perfect', for whatever that means in Kryn society. It drives me mad to just have "Deirta is evil and bad" with no depth, no thought to her role in society, and how awful it could be to love, and love and love, in a society that sees death as only another transition to return from in years. Elves dont' measure in days or months - they live hundreds of years/!? So yeah, this is one of a few fics that I really, really enjoyed. Maybe I should write Deirta sometime.

You know I always like to hype our cake shop friends. Cylin's orym hime, piranya's ashton, etc etc. But none of those feel rare enough for an ask from you? They're campaign favourites, even if they're rare-r. Plus, you've seen them. I'm going to give you three. @lookoutrogue, as an event mod and server mod. The witcher fandom has absolutely no idea how much they owe this quiet account. Also, @hungarianbee and @thirstyforred together get noted for the sheer amount of lore, knowledge, and support they offer. The witcher fandom as a whole would be the lesser without them.

And of course, @continentcakeshop as a whole. Everyone in there makes an effort to encourage each other, to share in joy and pain and words and art. To be silly together, to support each other when sad. It hasn't been only a fandom server in a bit, so I'm kind of cheating. But otherwise I'd have to list everyone, for their support, their stories, their pictures, their kindnesses, their understanding. It's just a wonderful group of people that span a wide range of fandoms, but we just really like hanging out together.
