Okay, okay, okay. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The movie: stunning. The book: unbelievably better. So I watched the movie first—I know, cardinal sin—but I honestly enjoyed the book more because I had already seen the film. Sort of like reading a detailed plot summary before you watch a play or musical. I knew what was going on already, so I could focus more on the details than the plot. My read felt like a reread in terms of what I picked up, but had all the excitement of a first read-through! I also grew to appreciate the discrepancies between the book and the movie. Maybe I need to rethink this 'book before movie' policy... Also, also, also. It’s an epistolary novel! One of the coolest literary formats of all time. And the soundtrack is gorgeous.
TL;DR One experience enhances the other, so watch the movie and read the book in whatever order you want and rewatch and reread liberally.

The first rule of snooping is to come at it sideways - when you began writing me dizzy letters about Alexander, I didn’t ask if you were in love with him, I asked what his favourite animal was. And your answer told me everything I need to know about him - how many men would admit that they love ducks?

Romantically: Annie and Malcolm would probably do this a lot, though mostly to encourage each other to actually eat (Prodigal Son).
Platonically: Belle and Mia absently share food between each other (Stranger Things).
