I heard that some people were worried about animated shows with LGBT+ themes being cancelled so i want to remind you all that the Nimona film is coming this summer to Netflix
This film was originally produced by Blue Sky studios and was later pushed back by Disney because of the LGBT+ themes. The production was taken later by other studio unrelated to Disney. The film is an adaptation of the comic "Nimona".
The premise goes like this:
"Nimona, a teenager with the power to shapeshift, is targeted by a knight for assassination. The knight's mission to kill Nimona becomes complicated when he is accused of a crime, and learns that Nimona may be able to exonerate him."
So, if you happen to have Netflix and are interested, please check this movie out. Specially considering how it was treated by Disney.
I love you stylized animation, I love you funky electronic soundtracks, I love you media that dares to experiment with old franchises and characters, I love you weird and wacky humour, I love you creators and animators that bring new and original ideas into the industry, I love you voice actors for breathing life into wonderful characters.
“Sorry to crash the party with your past lives! Or, your past DEATHS, as I like to call them!”
PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, the animated sequel that took everyone by surprise by how utterly AMAZING it was!!! Fantastic story, humor, characters, animation, and the best villain to grace animated movies in years, THE WOLF!!
Was thinking about the Don Bluth Anastasia movie and y'know, we need more animated films about real historical figures whose fate was a mystery mixed with wizards and dark magic and other batshit fantasy themes. I wanna see D.B. Cooper robbing a plane with the aid of his magical talking sugar glider friend
If there is one thing i believe people don’t give Into The Spiderverse and Across The Spiderverse enough credit for is bringing back the idea of making animated movies and series that aren’t specifically made for kids but they aren’t adult animation neither.
You know, animation for young adults or teenagers. An demographic that has been left forgotten for years, if not decades, and it started being considered again recently.
Some examples of this are films like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Wendell and Wild. Animated films that are in an grey area between ¨kids animation¨ and ¨adult animation¨.
Which, to be honest, is good thing! Because it means that people don’t have to jump into something completely different if they want to see animated movies that go a bit darker without having to jump into gore and repetitive sex jokes territory.
And who knows, maybe these types of movies could inspire future animated shows/movies for adults to change the way their stories are written seeing how you can tackle themes in a way that is interesting and compelling for the audience who watches them.
I'm totally on the side of The Boy and the Heron being this beautiful film about grief and change... But I need Nimona to win the Oscar.
I need that a movie where the main characters are a gay Asian man who is in a canon relationship with another Asian man, and a shape-shifter girl who wants to destroy an unfair society that was build based on the fear of the outcasts... To win that golden statue. Especially because this movie was rejected by Disney, the studio that has been stuck in the same genre of animation for decades and still believe themselves to be the kings of it.
It will be a gigantic slap on the face to Disney, and I need that.
