Niche König headcanons

He hates going shopping but he loves a good bargain for groceries. You will find him planning a weeks meals, cutting out coupons and doing serious research by flickering through advertisements & flyers at the kitchen table. He is also a hardcore Aldi and Lidl fan.

Esther "Mikaelson" and Misogyny
The misogyny in TVDU, in both the writing and the fandom, is exhausting. It comes out so much, especially when it comes to complex women versus complex men. Esther (yes, I know her last name is not Mikaelson), is not one of my favorite characters, she's not even a character I particularly like. But to act like she is an absolute villain with no redeeming qualities is a best misogynist, and at worst blaming a victim of abuse.
Most of the hate for Esther tends to come from certain character stans because they don't like how Esther treated their favorite character or want to shift the responsibility of their favs to Esther so that they don't have to deal with a complex, morally grey character.
Esther is a survivor many times over and we cannot talk about her without first acknowledging that. When she was just a teenager/young adult, her entire family was slaughtered and she and her sister were kidnapped. I know there is a lot of debate in the psychology community regarding Stockholm syndrome, but her falling for Mikael screams a manipulated, traumatized, naïve, young woman.
Esther and Mikael
Whether it was Mikael's intent initially or not, he took advantage of the mental place she was at when they met. People recently have wanted to argue whether or not Esther was abused, but this is not a debate. First, there are many different types of abuse, mental, physical, emotional, financial, etc.
During this time period, while Norse communities tended to give woman more power, Esther was from "outside" their community. Her rank in the community would come directly from her marriage. I personally don't know if she went into her relationship with Mikael in order to gain security or if she was just truly that naïve and wanted love and a family. There is nothing wrong with either. It reminds me of why Hayley decided to try and actually have a relationship with Jackson. Woman have historically had to make hard decisions in order to gain protection. And even if she just wanted to get married and have kids, that is fine. Esther reminds me of Meg March. Her dreams may have been different than Dahlia but that doesn't make them less important.
We see very little of their human lives and it is told from everyone else's perspective except for Esther. We also know that everyone's stories are not accurate. Klaus lied about Esther's death for a thousand years. He also has a tendency from not seeing things through other perspectives. Klaus, and even Elijah, when they talk about their human lives, focus on Mikael's abuse on Klaus because the show centers around Klaus and doing everything they can do to redeem him. There is no benefit to making Esther look complex or going into how living with Mikael impacted her. But it is naïve to say she didn't suffer abuse. She lived in a household with a violent, angry man. Even if he didn't physically hit her, which we honestly don't know but I would find that extremely hard to believe, it is clear he verbally, emotionally, and financially abused her.
People love to say she is a powerful witch and could have stopped him or left, but this is shifting the blame from the abuser to the victim. First, abuse isn't about who is stronger. This logic is completely dismissing so much abuse that happens, especially women abusing men. Yes, Esther is a powerful witch, but if she had no other options outside of Mikael, being powerful doesn't matter. We know she would put Mikael to sleep for long periods to protect her and her children. We don't know if she did anything else, but we have at least one example of her using her magic to intervene. We also know she stopped practicing for a long time because of her fear of dark magic and how the community treated Dahlia.
We also have to acknowledge that Esther had very few choices. Sure, she could kill Mikael but she would have gotten sentenced to death for that. Again, her position in the community came from her connection to Mikael, otherwise she was just another enslaved person from a village they raided. We know how Dahlia was treated. Maybe she could have run off with Ansel and they would have protected her from Mikael, or if he was dead, the villagers, but this is putting her, her children, and the pack in a dangerous situation. Potentially starting a war between the pack and the village for aiding and abetting a kin-slayer. She would also be acknowledging her affair and adultery by woman was met by serious punishments, usually death. After committing matricide, she also wouldn't have claims to Mikael's money or land as an outsider. Maybe in the "new world," but she would have to hide her involvement in his death. Esther would have no money or land of her own as her familial land and money would have been claimed when it was raided.
While women in Norse communities did experience more freedom than other areas of the world at that time, they were still far from free. This is especially true considering how Esther came to this community. While she wasn't enslaved in a way Dahlia was, it is wrong to say she wasn't still enslaved. Her entire village was killed and her and her sister were forced to come to their village and live amongst them as hostages. Esther was kept as a way to keep Dahlia in line. She was not welcomed into the community. This was a common practice during these raids.
The reason I get so angry when people attack Esther as if she wasn't a victim is because real-life victims hear this everyday. Esther's situation perfectly exemplifies the "non-perfect" victim and the fandom perfectly exemplifies how many of these victims are treated.
Esther and Dahlia
Dahlia gets way more slack than Esther because she is a "more perfect victim." But again, we are getting the story from everyone's perspective but Esther. Yes, what Dahlia went through was horrible, but what she put her sister through was also horrible. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
Dahlia had no right to expect Esther to give up her dreams for her, even though she did sacrifice a lot for Esther. She made that decision and took it on. Yes, it was noble, but again, she cannot expect anything for a choice she made. It is just like Klaus expecting his siblings to never leave him and punishing them when they do. Siblings do not owe each other their lives. I would also not blame Dahlia for leaving Esther behind to protect herself.
On top of that, when Esther went to Dahlia and asked for help, she took advantage of the situation and stole her child. I don't care what Esther promised or how much she understood of the situation, clearly at the moment Dahlia came for Freya, Esther did not want to give her up. If we look at it in a modern perspective, a mother who puts her child up for adoption has the right to change their mind because, morally, we understand it is impossible to understand how you will feel until that moment. If a person than steals the child after the mom changes their mind, that's kidnapping. If we look at it from a historical perspective, Norse communities were patriarchal and the children belonged to Mikael. Meaning Esther did not have the ability to "sell" her children.
Dahlia is given a lot of sympathy in the fandom because they relate her story to Klaus, who they spend a lot of time victimizing. So it makes an easy leap to paint Dahlia as the victim and Esther as the "evil" one. But again, we never see how Esther reacted to her sister casting her aside because she wanted love and a family. or how Mikael treated her throughout their relationship. Even if Dahlia ended up being right about Mikael, whether he was always evil or turned evil losing Freya, Dahlia doesn't get to make that decision for Esther. It is hard to watch someone you love get into an abusive relationship, but you can't tell someone what to do with their life. All you can do is try and be there for them when they need help.
Esther and Klaus
Another reason people hate on Esther is because of her relationship with Klaus. I personally think Esther loved Klaus the most because of who his father was. She babies him in a way she never did with the other's. We even see Finn resenting her treatment of Klaus because of it.
Yes, she does give him the necklace which ends up making Mikael target him to "make him strong." But, one, let's blame the abuser and not shift blame to a fellow victim. And two, what would you have her do? Sure the answer is probably, don't have an affair, but then your fav character wouldn't be there. Also, again, she was young and naïve. She also gets more blame for having an affair than Mikael does for beating a child. She made a mistake and did everything she could to protect Klaus from that mistake. Was it misguided, maybe, but her intention was good. She wanted to protect Klaus from Mikael finding out.
The fact that Esther can forgive Klaus for brutally murdering her shows how much she loved him. Her wanting to kill her kids later is honestly understandable. She never knew the side affects of the spell she performed. She watched her children become the worst versions of themselves for a thousand years and felt the guilt for every life they took. She also knew peace existed since she had been on the other side. When she first tried to take their lives, they would have all just gone to the other side. She didn't want them to suffer but wanted the pain they inflicted on the world to end.
The Misogyny of it all
The reason I say it is misogyny, is because every favorite character in this show has done absolutely terrible things. Klaus, and all of the Mikaelsons, are serial killers. It doesn't matter what reasons they had for doing it. Esther had her own reasons for her actions. The fact that people can't acknowledge Esther as a complex character but can do so for Klaus, Damon, Elijah, Stefan, etc. shows that it is based on misogyny. Even the fact that Dahlia, someone who kidnapped and abused a child, gets more love than Esther because Esther isn't a "perfect victim" shows it is rooted in misogyny. Men are allowed to be messy and complex but when it's a woman they are either a victim or pure evil.
I'm not saying there aren't things you can't hate her for. I hated her treatment of Elijah in Season 2 of TO and her plan to harm Hope. But to ignore the complexity of the character and pretend she wasn't a victim is just harmful rhetoric. Women are allowed to be complex and morally grey.

I was not technically tagged by @winterandwords but I'm still grabbing it from the open tag, and leave it as such :)
1. What motivates you to write?
If I don't do it, no one else will write what I want to see.
2. A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)
Gonna pick the lines that finished a 300k words project spread over 2 novels and 2 novellas :D
“But are you?” he asked after a moment, a hint of uncertainty on his face. “Happy, I mean. Is this how you imagined it?”
Merridy looked from the airy, creme-white curtains to the shimmering rainbow glass shards, and out the window, where in the distance the ocean sparkled in the sun. She raised her gaze to Damien, his eyes fixed on her as if nothing else mattered.
“No,” she whispered. “It’s better.”
3. Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like?
We all know how obsessed I am with Damien, but another char that makes me happy is Riordan. I mean — how could a char I introduced as "fancy boots" not make me smile?
Between all the sad guys and tragic backstories, he's just happy and kind (and a bit naive and rude :D), with a nice family, a good life and some fun quirks. He's absolutely the friend Merry and Damien needed.
4. What process of writing do you enjoy the most?
Finishing. Finishing a chapter. Finishing a book with the last little piece fallen into place. Finishing formatting. Just. Being done with something. I am constantly haunted by the fear my interest might vanish before I am done, so being done is... awesome.
Also then I get to make my friends cry then, so that's that.
5. What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)
Sadness :)
6. What is something in the writeblr community is most enjoyable?
Writing can be so very lonely. Spending hours upon hours putting silly little words into a silly little document, no I can't show you anything because I am not done, but listen to me talk about my char you don't know so you don't understand anything about what I am saying.
But here, we all understand the struggle and share the excitement.
7. A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)
Uh. Nothing really exists. I used to write in txt files, now I am in google docs so I can share more easily, which means I have at least a basic spell check now (which is nice, but also no google, I'm not talking about his sons.)
I guess InDesign (some shitty version from 2007) and Calibre are closest - I use them to format my books for printing and as ebook. Calibre is a rock star. InDesign is also the only program I've found so far that correctly fixes straight quotation marks in existing text when pasting in.
8. A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)
I am a sucker for tying all stories together in some way — recurring characters and places through standalone books, stuff like that. A lot of it is conveniently put on the back of the Order of Fire. It's an order dedicated to gathering and preserving knowledge. They have citadels all over the place, they need scientists, scholars, mercenaries and housekeeping staff, they can connect people from different parts of the world when I need it.
9. What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?
I don't know. There's so many reasons for a "rough patch", and every single one requires different advice. For example, "take a break" would be the worst thing I could do right now.
Your story is worth it. Only you can write it. Yes, even if it takes time. Yes, even if similar ones exist. Yes, even if it contains unpopular tropes. Yes.

Why that one theory (probably) doesn’t work
Ok
I've read the essay in the google doc everyboy’s apparently reading now.
It was an interesting analysis! However, I don’t agree.
It will probably be lost in the ocean but it would be nice if someone saw it.
I also don’t know how tumblr works so here I post it one more time separately. The link to the original meta can be found in the previous post.
So here’s a long post about why I don’t think (at least most of) it is true.
First, I think the ‘Metatron rewriting the Book of Life’ concept is interesting but I don’t think it concerns the flashbacks. Or I’d rather it didn’t because I truly enjoyed the first three episodes and they seemed in character for me.
Here’s a few thoughts:
In Job’s minisode glasses may be needed in direct conversation with God’s fav man, who maybe wouldn’t like to talk to a demon at all (Crowley pretends to be human there. He doesn’t however directly interact with anybody in the Arc or Calvary minisodes and, frankly, people there have more important things to pay attention to). And come on, strange to assume he changed his hair 4(?) times in the last half of XX A.D. but hadn’t touched it in the first 3000 years. Idk I also liked the scene of Aziraphel eating ox, felt in tune with his self-hatred in the end of the episode but also pretty cathartic on its own.
The resurrectionist mini episode worked alright for me as well. I agree it would be very cool to connect it to Lazarus but I also respect that people don’t come from the dead in this universe. (except for 2x04 but man wtf was 2x04)
I agree that the statue, the gun in the book, drawing instead of taking photo and cakes (lol) should have been revisited. And preferably in this season. If it happens later it would be a treat. But frankly if it doesn’t… I won’t be that upset. Maybe I just was betrayed by screenwriters too many times but I kind of don’t expect that. You say ‘Trust Gaiman’ and I want to! but… ok, there’s nothing left but to wait and see. But some dots certainly won’t be connected and that’s alright.
I agree about Maggie. There is something weird about her.
There are also things that I think are meant to be left unresolved now and revisited specifically in season 3, because they are pretty big: Shax and Furfur’s alliance, the whole deal with the Book of Life (weather it has been changed or not it is still a thing that will come up again), Crowley’s backstory (which includes the ‘Ask him properly’ and the ‘Memory wiping’ deal).
The biggest problem for me is ep4 because it is completely pointless and has nothing to add either to the plot or character dynamic. Absolutely empty and a bit confusing (maybe I missed something?) But I mean it’s fillers for you guys stop clutching your pearls like it’s something you’ve never seen before. It happens in every show and that’s the norm.
As to why Aziraphel didn’t take anything to heaven, I suppose he thinks he will be able to come back because the shop is not going anywhere and there will be no one to forbid it. Also because he was very upset and couldn’t think properly.
Now I thought about lack of narration as well. But I interpreted is as God hasn’t spoken since the not-apocalypse. I think Gabriel & Beelzebub’s arc works specifically if you keep that in mind. The whole deal with angels vs demons was due to the End of the world. Now it is gone and God doesn’t say what to do next. So yes, nothing seems to matter and you could as well go and hook up with a demon. And I believe the difference between Gabriel and Aziraphel is that the latter actually cares about doing good and helping people and not just taking orders. We see it multiple times. He helped create people, he always tries to protect them – it was very emphasized when demons surrounded the bookshop. Aziraphel is doing what he thinks is right and not necessarily what he is told. And yet he still believes that, apart from several individuals, Heaven is Good and the system should be in place. Many things have been written about religious trauma, sometimes specifically in GO discourse, and it has always been important in the show. And much more pronounced than certain components of this theory.
And that is why I believe his conflict with Crowley in the end was in character. You say they’ve spent 6k years together they should know each other. But isn’t it the point? I mean, it was on the nose but... The apology dance without actually speaking about why he is apologizing in the first place?? The ‘lighter shades of gray’?? Did Crowley tell Aziraphel what he had seen in Heaven in ep6? Did he tell him what had happened in Hell before he had asked for holy water? Did he tell him how his execution had gone? I suppose he didn’t. And Aziraphel didn’t ask. They don’t speak and it seems like they are on the same page but the whole sequence of flashbacks says the opposite. And seeing how easily Aziraphel slipped into ‘we are not friends’ in season 1, I think the conversation ‘let’s establish what we are’ was a good decision. Like it was said, other people’s relationship seems so easy from outside. And would it really take two lesbians who you’ve known for a week to shatter your confidence in something you’ve supposedly known your whole life? Exploration of their relationship in this season was Real and important.
About the end many things have been already written as well. But the point is they live under an oppressive system that manages to find them time and time again and both the ‘go and change it’ and ‘keep running for the rest of time’ resolutions have their flaws and that is a dilemma just alright. The last conversation felt authentic to me. They love each other very much and the conflict in the end happened not because something has changed in that regard. If drugging was in place the whole point of the conflict would be lost and even though I agree that the ‘second in command’ is a bit upsetting it is not that of a big deal to indicate that the whole conversation was ingenuine.
I assume Metatron could change something in the Book of Life but it certainly isn’t be THAT big as to cancel even half the canon. And I don’t believe that is what lead to the last scene in the season 2. Assuming that actually feels unfair to the characters.
All in all, I believe sometimes when a show tells you ‘they don’t communicate enough’ and ‘he wants to help people’ you should take it instead trying to find meaning in something that is written between the lines at the expense of the literal plot. It is ironically exactly the miscommunication they warned us about.
And idk, if Neil is THAT crazy as to declare this whole season basically not canon, it had to be done differently. I mean, it theoretically could work and be very unique buuuut has he really done something that huge and at the same time that incredibly subtle before?
I am not a professional writer but if that was my plan I would either go deeper into unnatural filter/ truly uncanny (not just “bad writing”) characters/ abrupt montage to emphasize that the memories are fake. And something in the end that would confirm that. Because Metatron being just manipulative in a ‘human’ way like ‘You like human food? Here’s coffee. You like your demon? You can still have him’ makes more sense to me than declaring 90% of the season a dream sequence.
I mean, yes, as far as I know a lot of people (me included) agree that the writing this season was not very good but they still felt very passionate about what went on between two main characters and that part was very well executed, so taking it away wouldn’t be nice. That is how I see it at least.
Finally, the last season will have the Second Coming in it. It is said in the last episode and showed in the opening. And I also believe that many themes are to be discussed there. It feels like a very rich plot. I think they intentionally left something for later so that the narrative was more consistent, that’s why, for example, they left 4x02 that uneventful. Every season has its purpose.

HELLO AGAIN!! Just wanna say that I love your analyses as always. THE NATURE DOCUMENTARY ONE, LITERALLY UNHINGED IT'S SO GOOD. YOU'RE SO GOOD!!!

Anyways I've been reading on repressing and suppressing emotions?? Ok so I'm not claiming to be a professional or anything, I'm just reciting what I've read about!! IT'S JUST REALLY INTERESTING TO TALK ABOUT in the case of Mike.
Ok before I go on a tangent, I found something interesting-
CRYING!! MIKE WHEELER??-
Anyways suppressing is when you avoid talking or expressing an unwanted or uncomfortable emotion and in order to do that, some may do something to distract themselves, in the case of Mike (Him playing video games in the basement.) BUT there's also controlling your intake of food!! which is what Mike might also be doing. He's looking for some control.
Suppressing emotions happens when you don't know what to do with said emotions (aka his feelings for Will, he's having thoughts about Will so he ignores/avoids them by playing video games.) Basically suppression is something that you actively do whilst repressing is more unconscious. Mike might be a mix of these 2.
I think by the end of S4 or something he might be leaning more towards repression.
I wanna talk more about how his family life causes this, cause it's soo interesting. Mike doesn't know how to healthily express his emotions, because his parents are emotionally stunt. They've never talk about their emotions, so it's just uncomfortable for him to do so because he didn't grow up in an environment where doing so was considered normal. I think this effect the entirety of the Wheeler kids. They just don't know what to do with feelings, so they shove it down aka suppressing them. Just shoving them down so they don't have to deal with them.
Wonder why Mike feels more dull in S4? Going back to watch clips from S1-2 felt like experiencing smth different. Mike felt more explosive you could say, he was moody and angry, but at least it was an emotion. S3-4 felt like watching the colors drain out of him, because that's when he learns to shove them down, cause they're bad. Feelings like anger, frustration, sadness anything!! He shoves them down. Cause 1) he's shown that he can't express these feelings without repercussions, his parents punishment for acting out instead of understanding him. 2) He's been shown that these emotions are not important.
He thinks he shouldn't have these emotions, because he's not allowed to, he hasn't suffered enough to feel these.
Feels like I'm just repeating things, but he's SUCH an interesting character to talk about!!! Anyways just came here to say that you're probably my fav (personally) Mike analyst. You do it so well!!!

Okay so YES!!!!! THAT ABSOLUTELY SOUNDS LIKE MIKE AGHH!!! YOURE SO RIGHT!! Mike in the basement, but also mike controlling his food intake!! I personally think that when it comes to mike & food as a source of control, its more of a subconscious thing rather than actively being aware of it, like he lacks appetite and isnt eating for a variety of reasons which i need to make a full post on one day, and so he then associates not eating w that feeling of being in control and so then it’s just another reason on his list of various reasons as to why he ends up avoiding food! Esp since i think mike’s food issues are also tied to his repression of his emotions and queerness and guilt and again how he’s subconsciously seeking control through food, but also how he associates ‘real food’ in s1 with family and karen’s cooking but as that relationship w his family deteriorates, esp bc of his guilt abt his queerness and bc of his depression/mental health in general, his relationship w food also deteriorates. Mike’s life has had so many moments of a loss of control, esp w the supernatural stuff, but I feel like a.) the continuation of his relationship with el and feeling like he has very little control over that relationship bc theres so many expectations for him and b.) feeling like he’s lost will are two core losses of control that are really affecting him pre-s4, esp feeling like he’s failed and lost will and out of control of his life bc his sense of stability (will’s presence in his life) is gone, and so he’s seeking a sense of control through food while simultaneously punishing himself/neglecting himself by not eating.
And that is SUCH a great point both about a.) mike’s feelings for will and focusing on videogames and b.) the distinction between repression vs suppression. I def think mike has a mix of those two, and is leaning towards repression in s4, yes!!!!

And that’s another fantastic point/great way of framing it, as if he feels “more dull,” in s4, because he DOES, because he’s tired and struggling and pushing down his emotions and feels like he’s always going to be demeaned or ignored if he expresses them!!! Mike’s parents are SO emotionally unavailable and not only do they fail to encourage Mike to show his emotions, but they also punish him for it too! In s2, when he’s upset and expressing himself about having to give away his toys, Karen reprimands him for his upset & reminds him off things that he did like graffitiing the bathroom stall- which is odd because he’s already BEEN punished for those things, he’s already lost his Atari, and the toys aren’t actually tied to his “bad behaviour,” but rather, Karen wants the toys to be given away & is using mike’s “bad behaviour” as an excuse. It also struck me that Ted, who’s usually pretty silent, chimed in to give Mike shit with his “strike 20 you’re on the bench, son” comment but we never see Ted chime in to defend Mike in any of the dinner scenes, only to reprimand him. We don’t even see Ted and Mike have a nice normal conversation at the dinner table- or EVER! When was the last time we saw Mike and Ted just. Talk. At all. An actual conversation, not even a deep serious one but just anything that isn’t just “Ted making snarky comments at Mike”? Hell, Mike doesn’t even respond to Ted’s snarky comments at the s2 dinner table, nor does he respond to them in the kitchen scene in s4 ep1. He’s responding to Karen in both scenes but not Ted. We literally haven’t seen an actual conversation between Mike and Ted at all. The CLOSEST we’ve gotten to that is s1 ep1 where Ted is fixing the tv & Mike tries to ask about staying longer for dnd but Ted shuts him down and tells him to talk to/listen to Karen. This is REALLY interesting to me because that’s the only time we really see any sort of two way dialogue between Mike and Ted where they’re even just. Responding directly to eachother at all. And it’s because from that scene, Mike has learned that he can’t go to Ted and that Ted’s just going to redirect him to Karen & not listen to Mike, so then in Mike’s mind, why should he even bother with Ted? Mike shoves down his feelings SO MUCH, we see him get shut down so often and eventually he just starts shutting himself down & repressing his own emotions before anyone else can try and shut him down.
“S3-4 felt like watching the colors drain out of him” THIS IS SO SO TRUE AND ACCURATE AND AGAIN IS A FANTASTIC WAY OF FRAMING/PHRASING IT!!! THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS!! And i completely agree, at least he was EXPRESSING himself, at least it was emotions, but then in s3-s4, he REALLY starts shoving them down, because exactly like you said, he’s been shown that not only are his emotions deemed unimportant, but they’re also actively punished.
He thinks he shouldn't have these emotions, because he's not allowed to, he hasn't suffered enough to feel these.
EXACTLY!!!!! He feels like he isn’t suffering enough because of how he compares himself to others & invalidates his own experiences and emotions & how other people, including El (with the s4 bedroom fight scene and her invalidating him when he talks about being bullied) have invalidated and shut him down too. And that’s part of what frustrates me about some of the discussion surrounding Mike’s mental health in the fandom too- they fall into that same “Mike hasn’t suffered enough to have mental health issues,” trap, and compare Mike to other characters and use that comparison to invalidate and willfully ignore his struggles and it’s NOT frustrating because that approach completely misses the POINT of how Mike’s character aligns with people who feel like they are suffering enough & who are invisible & who invalidate themselves because of how they’ve been invalidated by others.
HES SUCH AN INTERESTING CHARACTER AND I LOVE THE THOUGHTS YOUVE MENTIONED HERE!! And thank you so, so much omg that makes me so happy because i LOVE analyzing him! YOURE SO SWEET THANK YOU SM AAAAAAAAAAA!!! 💗💕

Long answer: You know how it happens sometimes that a mutual of yours gets into some fandom you're not into, and then your dash is clogged with said fandom, but they're your friend so you keep on following them, and so it becomes your fandom-in-law?
Yeah, so that's me, my friend, and K-Dramas. By that logic above, I'm watching-in-law, as in she's watching, and then needs to ramble, and I'm always happy to listen, and to see the graphs she draws out sometimes. But it all gets jumbled in my head.
But. Said friend of mine is writing her master's thesis right now. And she's in DIRE need of entertainment. Except IkePri is her fandom-in-law. (I think she saw Silvio's sprite while reviewing their outfits and that's it?) I have seen precisely none of the dramas she mentioned.
To make things spicier (she'd really rather do anything other than write said thesis; R, if you're reading this, go write that damn thesis), my friend asked her friend for recommendations too. So this all is one major game of Broken Telephone, with key words being "jangles", "rich", "prince", "daddy didn't love him", "jerk (? question mark ?)" and "TEARS".
SO. WITH THAT ALL IN MIND. (Would he like them? I don't know. Would it be entertaining to see him cry while watching them, although probably for all the wrong reasons? Yes.)

My Horrifically Indulgent Good Omens 2 Angstageddon Playlist
If you’re anything like me, you’re going through the bizarre Twilight Zone of realizing that all those songs you indulgently listened to with a grain of salt can canonically apply to these two dimwits now. And if you’re anything like me, you drove to work in sleep-deprived hysterics as you listened to these absolutely angst-sodden songs that completely, undeniably, without a doubt, legally apply. Nothing is too much, all fair game, no question, no remorse, no napkin. It’s Angstageddon, babes, and the only reason “Angel With A Shotgun” isn’t here is because it’s too happy and optimistic.
Anyway, my musical taste is mediocre and pop-happy and goes from my current playlists all the way back to my grade 10 Ipod music near the end. Have my ever-growing catalogue of soppy songs for this bastard of a show, most curated pre-Season 2 as an “Angsty Fanfiction Playlist” but can now be promoted to “Entirely Canon-Compliant Playlist”. “Like Real People Do” – Hozier (Ahaha, a soft and sweet song that absolutely does not fit…yet. But it will.)
“Lost” – Dermont Kennedy (A later-on remorse song for Az. Significant Lyrics: “When everything was broken/The devil hit his second stride/But you remember what I told you/Someday, I'll need your spine to hide behind” “Are we destined to burn or will we last the night?/I will hold you 'til I hold you right.”)
“Glory” – Dermont Kennedy (Can’t quite land on what perspective this is sung from, but I almost see it as a song from C’s perspective to A, with the asides referencing “She” referencing God. The complex relationship he has with her, and A, and everything.)
“King” – Lauren Aquilina (Idk why, but I just see it as a comfort song. You can take or leave, it’s just here from before GO2 as a comfort song for Crowley, who in my mind was suffering due to some overwhelmingly heartbreaking event that left him rock bottom on his own for some extended period, but of course that’d never happen canonically, pfft. Just a fanfiction song, nothing more).
“Hits Different” – Taylor Swift (Yep, she’s defo got a place on this list. She’s got SO many applicable songs, but I’ll just put a blanket order on her music and give you a few. This is currently a fav of mine and the first song I heard post-watch, and thus the one I had my big “Everything Applies Now Legally” epiphany during my listen. A poppier, slightly happier vibe that we desperately need at this point.)
“Samson” -- Regina Spektor (Jesus. I’ll likely make a video about it when I have the time.)
“Heart’s On Fire” – Passenger (A sweet song that will tear your goshdarn heart out. There’s hope in this song. “I don’t know where and I don’t know when/But I know we’ll be lovers again.”)

“Something In The Orange” – Zach Bryan (A bit countryish, so dif kinda vibe, but still love it. Very angst, sitting with a glass of whiskey kinda song.)

SPLATOON DLC!!!!! aarrggrurahrgh it makes me so excited that they're coming in wAVES!!!! i feel like there might be two more waves bc of the 4 in colours behind the words expansion pack and the 4 tapes under the wave 1 screen but idk that might just be me grasping at straws shkdjfgh wave 1!!! hOUHRUHGRHG INKOPOLIS PLAZAAA ;;;;;;;; i think it was really funny that the whole fandom lost their shit at the dlcs being announced n then after getting over the adrenaline collectively decided that wave 1 doesn't actually do shit shkjdfhg but honestly i like it! splatsville feels a bit big for me plus i never got to play splat1 that much so it's nice getting to see where it all started. also sQUID SISTERS PERFORMING AGAIN ;;;;; i Love that their city of colours instrumental didn't change but their singing clearly did, and they look older noww!! ;; and also their clothes do the glowy glow now too!!!! so happy for them -w- also ss is my fav idol group of the three (but the other two aren't far behind so it's not rlly significant jskjhdfg) so obv i'm excited to see them again ;;;; i hope that w bringing back the plaza they also bring back AT LEAST the arcade minigames and everything, bc it looks like the arcade machine is still present in the plaza (but i might be tripping so don't take my word for it :p

Different. just the teaser itself felt like this Huge leap from the usual energy of splatoon in almost every aspect, colourless, slow, inquisitive. i'm hoping that the story is deeper w this dlc! maybe even make it feel like an rpg? idk but like, it'd be cool i think if they took the lore stuff in oe, the dialogue, the chat rooms, the Everything, and really tied it into the gameplay instead of making it feel like something you can always just check later if that makes sense? ough i am sO fucking excited for side order,, the music, the aesthetic, the story, the Everthing man aURUGHUGGH
NEXT MY CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND KIRBY'S RTD DELUXE!!!!!!! AWOHHWHGOAWHGA i love kirby rtd ;;;;; it's my very first kirby game!! and one that i'd play over and over and over and over again. i'm so happy that it's getting remade for the switch ;;; absolutely looove the outline thing they did w the characters! i love that they kept the colours nice and bright and fun just like i remember! i'mm not sure yet how i feel about retconning king dedede's design hkdjfhg since rtd was my first game his design there is the one i'm used to n not his earlier design in kirby 64 crystal shards :p but yeah! i really like the merry magoland!! i played it a bit in the demo and it's a fun lil mario party minigame mountain feeling thing -w- aND THE MASK THING IS SO COOL??? U CAN WEAR THEM IN STORY MODE TOO!!!! i think it's really neat that they added the souvenirs to help you in ur playthrough n all that, and they added an easy mode w the magolor help thingy! i'm always a fan of people adding easy modes to games -w- (won't go too into that though bc i could be a whole nother post probably jkdhfgs) ooouhg n then there's the magolor epilogue!!!!! u get to play as the bastard!!!!!!!!!!!! he looks so pathetic n cute i'm sorry hkdjfhg i think it's really cool what they did! the whole upgrading thing n making it a bit more rpg-like which is new for kirby games afaik! oughh i'm really happy that they added new content ><

I DIDN'T THINK THEY'D EVER MAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR LAYTON GAME AGAIINNN ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; professor layton and the miracle mask was one of my very first games on the 3ds ;; the very first was scribblenauts that my dad got for me but when choosing my very own game professor layton miracle mask called to me and i am sO happy i picked that specific game up ;;; ahem. i know that the teaser gave basically No information but sTILL!!! HE'S ALIVE!!! ngl after katrielle layton flopped i thought they'd never continue the series kdjfhg kat layton didn't even feel like a part of the series it kinda just felt like a spinoff or smth. but he's here! he's alive!!! and i love that the One Background we see is so distinctly layton ;; it's making me think of specifically professor layton and the unwound future. ugh gOD i am so fucking excited to go through another crazy adventure. i remember playing through Every layton game and each and every one has some crazy batshit insane twist at the end and you can Never really figure out what's going to happen until the very end and i LOVE that!!! i remember finishing Azran legacy and feeling a lil bittersweet. i'd wish that i could play it all for the first time again. katrielle layton came around but that was a bit of a letdown ;-; i barely even remember anything from it anymore :p but god. GOD. professor layton new world of steam. FUCK man

1.Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?
Oh I definitely daydream a LOT before I write like god. It's really only when I've been thinking about the idea nonstop for like a week straight that I think I should maybe start writing it soon lol. Even the occasional very rare couple that I get the need to write asap was still only done after half a day of daydreaming the plot and scenes sdkjfhkjdshf. (And for those that are rightfully thinking 'but Lisa, what about the stuff you wrote for past June's when you had to bang out as many ideas as possible?', even those ones I liked to think of an idea for at least a couple of days ahead of when it had to be posted so I could stew on it for a bit)
11. Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around?
Okay, now the correct answer to this is supposed to be the last one. It's the best way of writing hands down and helps you stick with the flow and helps to reduce writing blocks. But my actual answer is that I write everything in order lol. I literally cannot write a scene later in a fic without knowing what exactly the scene just before it was. I need to know what emotions are going into it. Obviously I daydream random scenes out of order in my head, but thats more so I can remember them for when the time comes that I can finally write it down. And yes, sometimes I do get an idea for a scene that would have been perfect earlier on so I inject it and edit the ones afterwards to match, but other than those times everything is written in order because I physically cannot make make myself do otherwise.
20. Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics?
I don't know if I have a preference honestly, I greatly enjoy both. Though I do suppose it depends on what fandom I'm writing for. Any of my Tales of Phantasia stuff I tend to keep canon because it's easiest for me (and being able to play in an actual fantasy world with magic and everything is just so fun), but most of my Until Dawn fics are more AU based now that I think about it. But I think that's mostly because writing canon ud fics means that it's gonna be very hard to write anything that doesn't rely on angst (for obvious reasons lol), so writing a fun fic about shmoopy pining and three nerds just being terrible dorks almost always means it's gonna have to be an AU unfortunately.
48. Who is your favorite character to write for? Has this changed since you’ve started writing for that fandom?
Oooooh, this one's a tough one. Mostly because it's impossible for me to narrow it down furthur than Josh, Ashley, and Chris lol. Though I do find it a little harder to get in Josh's head then I do Chris and Ashley admittedly, which is why I have very few fics with him as the view point character. And as for if it's changed? Kind of, I guess? I always knew that Chris and Ashley were gonna be my main favs from the beginning, but for some reason I didn't realize how much fun it was going to be to write them AND Josh together until the first time I did it... which was the very second fic I wrote oops.
69. What are your favorite fics at the moment?
...And this question just got harder all of a sudden lmao. Unfortunately there's not much new going on in the Until Dawn fandom at this time, though as everyone here knows absolutely everything by @queenofbaws is always going to be top contender lol. Antagonish is probably my fav for newest things right now, if only because it's super clear that she is having the absolute time of her life finally being able to write about her favourite things: old men. (As for other fics, got back into the PJO fandom again just recently because of the casting news and I can never turn down some Vex/Percy ala critical role campaign one, but nothing that's jumped out and made me go 'oh my god this is AMAZING' :/)
77. Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?
I've always been aware that I'm not the most creative person out there, but thanks to ADHD I'm always daydreaming and lost in thought, so I gotta get all these ideas out somehow! And, even though I sometimes think that I can't do the ideas I have justice, I do think that the ideas themselves are good so I want to share them! The fact that other people may hopefully have as much fun reading it as I did writing is only a bonus baby!

hiya team! thanks for the questions and the vibes! how are things with you?
🦚 - Are there any queer books/shows/etc. that you would suggest? answered here, but i am always here to offer more recommendations! i recently finished watching the first season of xo kitty, and while it does suffer from some of the usual tween show pitfalls (as well as heavily relying on some major coincidences for big plot points) it is very cute and wayyy more queer than the marketing suggested. no spoilers but if you want to watch something light and silly and all about both queer and straight love i'd recommend it! a podcast rec that is less explicitly queer but so extremely good that i'll take any opportunity to recommend it is dungeons and daddies! every season (there are two, on of which is on-going) has at least one explicitly queer main character plus several queer side characters plus it's like. so so good and funny and sad and all about father-son relationships (season 1 at least) and generational trauma (both seasons) while also being about the stupidest silliest jokes and basically i love it with my whole heart :))
💙 - When you first learned about the Queer community, did you immediately realize ‘That’s me!’ Or did you consider yourself a ‘really good ally’ for some time? absolutely not lol. i totally thought i was Just A Friendly Ally, fully to the point where i came out as straight to my parents in middle school bc i thought it wasn't fair that my queer friends had to come out & my straight friends didn't. (yes yes cringe all you want) which btw pro tip for anyone thinking of trying that: don't! bc then later when you have Realizations(tm) you'll have to come out for real and everyone will be like "hang on what about what you said when you were 13" which is a pain lol. i even had a friend who was out as ace and i was like "wowie that's neat. couldn't be me tho bc i have crushes on people and also i'm not special enough to be anything other than straight" (which like. did baby megs hear herself? apparently not lol) so it took me nearly six years after learning about what being ace meant in order to be like "hang on. that kinda is me tho" so. goes to show lol.
🔮 - What Was the Moment you Realized you were Queer? there wasn't exactly a singular moment as such, i'm not the type of person to figure out anything without overthinking it and so it took me months of scrolling through ace forums and reading testimonies to feel comfortable using the label. there was a specific date that i suddenly felt 100% comfortable with the label (which is written down somewhere) but that was after a lot of buildup and i spent the next week after that questioning that feeling lol. in terms of other aspects of my queerness,,, those are still very much up in the air lol so i guess you could say i'm waiting for that moment/moments to come! there've been a lot of beats over the last year/couple years where i was like "hmm i think i'm aro" and then "hmm actually i think i'm bi" and then "hmm maybe i'm not fully cis" but none of them have been decisive enough for me to use any label other than ace & queer (my fav labels to have 😊)
