When I was getting my diagnosis, my psychiatrist told me right after giving me my prescription that I need to consider eating food a part of my medication, and that flipped a switch in my brain that oh. Maybe willingly starving myself and eating only one meal a day isn't healthy.

#1 thing i'm most afraid abt in the revival is the candace characterization actually bc we are in a paradox here

fact: candace's endless torment was part of the backbone of the show, one of the constants that kept the plot structure going. phineas and ferb must always do something new. candace and doofenshmirtz must always lose. any exceptions to these rules can't be permanent. status quo must be upheld.

fact: candace against the universe's character development seemed to finally be breaking this cycle. candace isn't alone anymore, she's letting go of her obsession to see the support that was always there for her and thus she's escaped her sisyphean cycle. to go back to the old status quo after this would be massively unsatisfying.

fact: the reboot is supposed to take place AFTER candace against the universe.

so what do we do now

sejanus and marcus truly have one of the most insane dynamics from the franchise, like i have never been this crushed over a story between two characters in my life. 😭

i was really expecting the movie to take advantage of their past, to bring that raw emotion to the screen. because even after a whole DECADE, sejanus still remembers and cherishes marcus for what he did for him when they were children. marcus helping sejanus with his hurt finger on his own, showing him kindness, never left him. sejanus never experienced that level of generosity in the capitol, i don’t think he was treated that way ever again.

it breaks me reading their scenes in the zoo and during the questionnaire, because sejanus so desperately wants to make amends with him. but marcus has made up his mind, he doesn’t say a word to him, he doesn’t trust him, and he never gives in. the plinth’s are despised in two, sejanus being his mentor won’t change that. sejanus bringing him food, and offering it to him multiple times won’t either. sejanus goes as far as to ask coriolanus to trade tributes because marcus being his tribute is taking that much of a toll on him, while he clarifies that it’d be terrible with anyone, it’s marcus that brings him so much emotional distress.

marcus’s torture being displayed as a message, but also to get under sejanus’s skin… dr. gaul teases him about marcus’s disappearance, (most-likely) knowing they’d already caught him. and looping back to the reaping, strabo buying the district two boy… done only to shove it in his face that he could never go back to two. sabotaging him with marcus seems to be a common theme.

when marcus dies, sejanus honors him. sacrificing himself just to do so. he’d planned to die in there with him, too. and if coriolanus hadn’t been sent in, it would’ve worked. when he agrees to leave with coriolanus, he doesn’t want to go without marcus’s body.

marcus, undeniably, had a very large role in sejanus’s actions, in his resistance, and once he was gone, sejanus doesn’t have a purpose to live anymore. he tells coriolanus in part three that after the arena, he had planned to end his own life, one of his reasonings being because of what happened to marcus. and that was not the first time he’s considered suicide over marcus’s fate, he feels that guilty over him.

sejanus still keeps pictures of marcus, takes the childhood class photo where marcus is standing behind him to district twelve. ma comments on how she knew marcus’s dismay “hit him hard”. coriolanus calling sejanus dramatic over going into the arena, and sejanus reacting as if coriolanus had slapped him across the face.

they met for the first time in district two, then again in the capitol, and eventually in death. just . MY GOD!!!!!!!

So, Halloween is getting closer, and I thought it'd be fun to talk about what I think the gang would dress up as for Halloween

*when I say football I mean American football lol

Hiccup: I feel like he'd have a pretty simple, low effort costume, but he'd rock it. I'm leaning towards something like a super basic vampire costume. Dress shirt, nice pants/shoes, little cape, plastic vampire fangs, etc. But like, and I cannot stress this enough, he looks. so. good.

Astrid: Similar chill vibes as Hiccup, and I think she'd also go for something classic like a witch. But she kinda does it in her own style if that makes sense, short skirt, tights, boots, etc etc. (Also a witch hat and a broom bc duh). Bc this is a modern au, she steals Toothless from Hiccup (bc he's a black cat) and they're inseperable

Snotlout: The first thing my mind goes to is a football* player? Sports jersey, athletic shoes (wtv football players wear lol). I'm kinda between that or like a really slutty pirate vibe.

Fishlegs: He does those costumes that are like, puns or like, plays on words. Like like, when people dress up as a cookie and wear a pair of glasses and then they're a 'smart cookie' or wtv? Yeah, that's Fishlegs. He also gives bee vibes idk. Striped shirt, headband w antennae, wings, the works.

Ruff & Tuff: Definetly do coordinated costumes. I like the idea of them dressing up as Frankenstein (Ruff) and Frankensteins monster (Tuff). They go ALL OUT every year, never dress up as the same thing twice, oftentimes have multiple costumes in the day (and wear them before and after Halloween bc what else are they supposed to do lol). They probably make the costumes themselves. They totally dress up as clowns sometimes. (I redact my previous statement that they never wear the same thing twice; they DEFINETLY have costumes that they came up with specifically to freak certain people (Snotlout and Fishlegs mostly) out, which they can be counted on to wear at LEAST once a year)

i was having a chuckle to myself last night about Gristol, and how his plans are basically:

Restore Ford Cruller's memory

Find Maligula

???

Profit

but then... of course they are, right? this is Gristol we're talking about. Fatherland Follies drives home again and again that he's still operating on a child's logic, a warped and reductive version of the world that he never bothered to grow out of. both of his memory vaults center on the images of his childhood, this idealized version of the past that he clings to no matter what. and that's still how he remembers Maligula, too - as this saviour figure, who rushes in to help him when he's in trouble.

like so much else, Maligula represents a return to this idyllic childhood - to the peace and simplicity of his youth, when he was free from worries and responsibilities. in his mind, he doesn't need to make any further plans - once Maligula's back, everything will go back to normal. Maligula will make everything better.

...is what i thought, but then i remembered this line:

and that's kind of interesting, right?

to be clear: this happens directly after Maligula sees Helmut-in-Gristol's-body, and recognises him. her line before this is:

"Little Gzesaravich! Have you come to pay for your father's sins?"

my first thought was that Gristol hadn't expected to still be in Truman's body by the time he managed to find Maligula, and this was him trying to placate her and buy some time until he could explain the situation. but watching the cutscene back, that's clearly not what's happening here. Gristol is answering as himself, and his response of throwing himself to his knees before her is, as far as i can tell, genuine.

so what is going on here?

in Fatherland Follies, there's this line in the ride narration that stuck out to me:

"Why didn't the Gzar help Maligula in her time of need? No one knows, but historians agree - it is Gzar Theodore's biggest failure."

other lines mention Gzar Theodore's "mistake", and it's wording Gristol himself echoes in the screencap above. evidently, he believes that his father abandoned Maligula, leaving her to her fate at the hands of the Psychonauts, and it was that mistake that lead to them being driven out of the country - that mistake which he seeks to correct. maybe he even feels like he has a debt to repay to her for his family turning their backs on her all those years ago.

the 'High Priestess' thing, though - that's kinda weird, and threw me for a loop the first time i played the game. it took me until my second playthrough to connect the dots, and remember how the room in the Lady Luctopus - Gristol's room - was full of Delugionist scribblings and symbols.

i mean, look at this stuff! he had a whole conspiracy board and everything!

we learn very little about the Delugionists and their beliefs as a whole during the game, but i think drawing the connection here suggests two important things. one: that Gristol was in deep with this stuff. i don't know how he linked up with them - maybe via old family connections, or just good old-fashioned digging (we know he's skilled at worming his way into peoples' good graces, after all) - but it seems likely that he's begun to internalise their ideas, maybe even warping his own memories of events. and two: the Delugionists themselves are, if you'll pardon the pun, pretty far off the deep end.

like... i understand why PN2 didn't go heavy on the "mass-murderer cult worship" aspect of things, in the end, but man this is such a tantalising glimpse into the wider mythos around Maligula. Gristol is proud and haughty and thinks himself above everyone else; the fact that his first reaction seeing Maligula is to throw himself to the ground at her feet says so much about the way he's come to see her. he's not just trying to bring back Maligula, his childhood bodyguard. he's trying to bring back Maligula, the High Priestess of the deluge, the semi-mythical figure whose supporters believe even death couldn't stop. he doesn't even flinch at the way she confronts him, and maybe it's because he's bought in so completely to this deified figurehead, this idea of Maligula; more a living force of nature than a person. and it all comes back to the same place: an abdication of responsibility, not just to the person who protected him when he was little but to this avatar of floods and destruction. Maligula will make everything better.

i'd write more about my thoughts on the Delugionists but that'd be taking a hard turn into speculation, and this is already kind of long and rambling so i'd better end it here. but what an unexpected and evocative line, right? it's some of the only stuff we have to go off of regarding the Delugionists as a whole, but i think it does such a good job of hinting at the wider story - at teasing another layer to the mythos surrounding Maligula, one whose ripples we see throughout the game but which never quite breaches the surface.

can i ask what your brushes are? your usage of textures is so gorgeous

hi thank you so much! going to answer this mostly abt procreate since i answered abt some of my photoshop brushes a while back and i still basically only use kyle websters gouache blaire brush for everything.

for adding texture over finished stuff i tend to use this set from true grit texture supply. it’s from their free sampler pack. i think u have to subscribe to their newsletter for it but i think it’s worth + it has same set for both procreate + photoshop (and a bunch of other programs too i think) which i love as someone who is indecisive abt programs. when i’m in photoshop i also love to use their butcher paper texture as an overlay for almost everything.

i also rlly like these ones….the 6b ones are all procreate default or edited versions of it. and other ones are i think from tip top brush sets. not sure which ones anymore they are all chilling together in my folder of fav brushes (sorry). if anyone wants u can dm me and i can send u to the zip file where i saved all of mine..… the chisels are from this brush set. these are not particularly textured but i love them for line art+sketching & there’s a few more textured brushes in there as well.

also in photoshop i really like to use a soft round brush on a mid to low opacity & with the dissolve brush mode on to add texture that war.

Still not over hws chapter 481. Like the way Liet is completely unbothered by naked francis wearing seashell bra only going haha thanks! See you all later at the conference hall :D it's just his everyday life, he doesn't have time for this and asking any unnecessary questions will just slow him down he'll stay in his own lane no matter what. This doesn't bother him. He has other problems.

#meanwhile feliks getting a stroke #I am 99% convinced now that Liet is the type of person who'll notice you having something on your shirt but instead of saying something #he'll just avoid looking anywhere else than your face and finish the conversation as quickly as possible #feliks wouldn't say anything either though #he'd just stare at you with a weirded out expression and when you ask if something's wrong he'd just go uhhh no #lovely #liet be like it's fine as long as it's not me who has to strip #because this is quite the opposite of that deleted christmas strip from idk 2009 #also feliks getting nervous with francis of all people it's nothing he wouldn't have seen before imo
